Because it's horribly depressing? Forces everyone to feel bad for poor people seventy years ago? Look, I've already been forced to read The Fault in Our Stars, The Grapes of Wrath, The Kite Runner, and the Book Thief in school. I've had enough depressing books for the next ten years.

It's almost as if they stole part of Nicol Bolas' design for him. Actually, much of their backstories are very similar.
