OOC: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=297822

The Great War started and ended on Saturday, October 23, 2077 when nuclear weapons were launched by all the nuclear-capable nations of the world (mainly from the United States, China and the USSR). The exchange lasted for approximately two hours, according to most survivors' accounts. Once the last atomic bomb and nuclear warhead had fallen, the world fell into the deep darkness of a nuclear holocaust.

The Great War

It is not known who launched the first nuclear weapon that started the conflict. President Richardson would tell the Chosen One that China launched first, however it is unknown whether or not he was telling the truth.

The nuclear exchange that characterized the Great War lasted for only a brief two hours, but was unbelievably destructive and reshaped the climate of the world even as it caused the fall of most of human civilization everywhere across the globe. More energy was released in the first moments of the Great War than all of the previous human conflicts in the history of the world combined. Entire mountain ranges were created as the ground buckled and moved under the strain of the cataclysmic pressure produced by numerous, concentrated atomic explosions. Rivers and oceans around the world were contaminated with the resulting radioactive fallout released by the relatively low-yield nuclear weapons used by all sides, and the climate changed horrifically. All the regions of Earth suffered from a single, permanent season once the initial dust blasted into the atmosphere by the nuclear explosions had settled - a scorching, radioactive desert summer.

Aftermath

Many American citizens did not heed the air raid sirens on October 23, 2077, believing them to be signaling just another drill. The Vaults sealed in their inhabitants as Earth burned in atomic fire. A few citizens took shelter where they could: sewers, and subway stations, drainage centers, Pulowski Preservation shelters, or in the case of the Keller family, the National Guard depot. However, without a very strong outer shield of dense metal or rock to defend them from both the heat and kinetic shock wave of the nuclear blasts (such as Lamplight caverns or Raven Rock), few civilians survived the full-out nuclear exchange. Some who were exposed to high levels of radiation became ghouls, and some of these ghouls, in turn, formed their own communities. Those who survived the nuclear exchange would form the basis for the brutal civilization that existed for the next 20 years, until the first Vaults re-opened.

Despite the global destruction caused by the war, many areas remained habitable, with low and tolerable levels of radioactive fallout. The surviving humans were in some parts of Earth able to continue living in the ruins of the pre-War civilization, establishing new communities and even small cities.

Around a week after the initial nuclear explosions, rain started to fall; however, none of it was drinkable. The rain was black; tainted with soot, ash, radioactive elements produced by the nuclear explosions and various other contaminants produced by nuclear weapons. This rain marked the start of the terrible fallout that marked the true, permanent destruction caused by the Great War. The rain lasted four long days, killing thousands of species that had survived the initial destruction of the bombs, be they animal, plant or micro-organisms. Those few living things, human, animal or plant, that survived after the rain ended were left to live in the now barren wasteland that had spread across Earth, where nearly all pre-War plant life had died either in the initial explosions or from the intense radiation produced by the fallout.

Some major global cities were not completely destroyed by the explosions because of their relatively low explosive yields, and cities such as Washington, D.C. even managed to maintain intact buildings despite relatively close detonations. However, most city streets across the post-nuclear United States were (and continue) to be blocked with rubble from collapsing edifices. In the ruins of Washington, D.C., most of the city's Metro system of subways remained intact. Though many Metro tunnels were blocked by collapsed masonry caused by the shock of the atomic explosions, the Metro's tunnel network remains the easiest, if not the only, way to move around the D.C. ruins.

Thanks to the efforts of Robert House, most of the city of Las Vegas, Nevada and the Hoover Dam remained intact, and many buildings still have electricity as of 2281. In the pre-War era, about 20 years before the Great War, House predicted when the bombs would fall. In the meantime, he installed defenses such as laser turrets on the roof of the Lucky 38 casino, which destroyed most of the incoming Chinese ballistic missiles before they hit Las Vegas. Had his platinum chip been delivered only a day earlier, an even greater area of the Mojave Wasteland could have been spared the terrible destruction. In time, the remains of Las Vegas came to be known as New Vegas.

Notes

There is debate on what time the Great War occurred, and whether it happened in the morning, or at night.
All clocks on the East Coast are stuck at 9:47.
In the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Honest Hearts, clocks found in the debris of Three Marys are also stopped at 9:47. This is despite the fact that Three Marys would be several time zones away from the East Coast, and so simultaneous bombings would not result in the same time stuck on the different clock faces.
According to the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Dead Money, the bombs were launched during the night of the Gala Event, suggesting that the nuclear holocaust happened when people were sleeping on the East Coast, and getting home from work on the West Coast. This also supports the ideas that people simply did not heed the air raid sirens or didn't have enough time to get to safety.
According to Carrie Delaney's holotapes, the school was packing up to leave Little Lamplight after a field trip. Unless they were going to be staying in school overtime for the trip, this could place the East Coast bombs in the 2-3 PM time range.
The war is sometimes referred to as World War III by fans and on the Fallout Trilogy PC cover. In the Fallout intro, the narrator states that "the storm of world war had come again". However, none of the in game characters in the series have ever referred it as such.
In real life, however, a nuclear holocaust is usually associated with the hypothetical World War III.

Behind the scenes

The following is based on the canceled Fallout movie and has not been confirmed by canon sources.
According to the script of the Fallout film, neither China, India, nor North Korea launched the first bomb. It was in fact Vault-Tec's executive of the vaults. He launched the first bomb to fulfill his own prophecy of nuclear annihilation.

New Berlin
Hitler looked over the cheering crowd of German citzens from the Reichstag. "My fellow Germans, today, we conquer the Savage and weak!" he said as the crowd got silence. "The Blood and Iron you give to your Führer, will lead to greatness and power, and to Civilization returning to this Uncivilizied world which was once Great and flourished!" an officer yelled after he was done "Mien Gott, Mien land, Mien Führer!" to which the crowd cheered and did the Bethamy (Nazi) salute. Hitler walked down the pathway from the Reichstag to his Carriage, and Waved and talked to his citizens.

OoC: is it ok if I have horses? You know for average German life?

Out of no where sirens start running,
"This is not a drill we are under attack I reappear this is not a drill"
About 1,000 men started to get in a defensive line in the bunker. 100 of the men started running up the steps one at a time.

Up Top
5 minutes later

It was a ordinary day. The 2 guards guarding the bunker door. Then out of no where *the sounds of bullets hitting metal* they look down and saw bullets flying every where. They look and saw 50 raiders charging at them. They radiod down to command. One of the BoS solider's got killed in the attack. The other solider took out a raider and got behind stuff waiting for backup. A minute later the men poured out the vault door and ambushed the raiders. After a short 15 minute stand off the BoS won with only one casualty. They buried him by the bunker door. The alarm stopped and a new guard was assigned. Every body went around as usual but Tom called for a meeting with his military advisor.

"Hello General." Tom said reaching his hand out. Which the General took it and shook his hand. "What did you call me down here for" he said to Tom
"Well I'm thinking we should take military action and destroy the raider camp." Tom said
"Hm well it could help us."
"We need to attack and destroy. This is the 3rd attack this month"
"True, it can save us some bullets and caps. I'll prepare a task force of 100 men."
"Ok when will they be ready?"
"Tomorrow"
"Ok go get them ready" Tom said.
"Yes sir" the General saluted Tom and walked out to prepare a small task force.

Sorry I'll write more later

2077-2150 the vault was closed due to the nuclear war.

The first class section of the vault glistened in artificial light that magnificently reflected off the many precious gems and metals that lined the walls of the upper class halls as the seventy-third annual ball began in a seismic shielded room. The vaults flags unfurled and the grand duke stepped out and bowed while the duchess curtseyed, they sat down on their thrones and Corran said "let the festivities begin" and a fast form of formal clapping began. A stand up comedian got up on a specially set up temporary stage while food was delivered to each of the formal tables set up in the royal court for this special occasion. A projector sent the image of a pre war night sky devoid of light pollution up onto the ceiling to the delight of the older nobles and the bewilderment of the newer younger nobles.

The 1600 workers toiled away in the depths of the vault, maintaining it and working the many shops. A pair of workers went up to the vehicle storage facility near the top of the vault that contained the cars and choppers of the wealthy people who first came here, as they do every night. When the vault started shaking the pair fell to the ground "What was that" "How should I know jack" but back in the market district, behind a bookshelf in the bookstore was the advanced sensor room that had a stair well that led directly to the grand dukes bedroom. A pair of attendants sat at the controls that night dazing off when the violent shaking occurred and then stopped. Now fully awake the attendants stared at each other. Phil one of the attendants received a call from maintenance "What was that?" Asked the repairman "It's nothing, don't worry nothing is broken it was just a minor quake.

The 50 guards that the grand duke sent yo explore set up shop outside the vault before they began there journey around the island, they saw prairies as far as the eye can see, many country estates and a few crumbling towns dotted the land with a sea of fog that seamlessly levitated over it like an ocean. A sunset hung over it like a tapestry with a beautiful array of intertwined reds, yellows and oranges.

The satellite that sat atop the vault continued to transmit and receive as it usually did before the war only now nothing was received and only an all clear signal was transmitted.

German Chancerlry Situation room
Hitler walked into his situation room were he was greeted by his Generals' with the Bethamy salute. "How many strong is the army?" he asked. "213 Sir, shall we begin to take cities?" said one of his Generals'. "Yes, tomorrow begin for Munich and Stuttsgart" Hitler replied. The General nodded and began out the door. "After Germany is re-unified we take Paris and Vienna, which will most likely take a decade." he thought.

Seattle

Vault 61;
A social experiment to see how several minority groups would co-operate.
Of the 500 people that originally entered,
98 were of native american decent
97 were jewish
101 were african american
100 were of irish decent and the remaining 104 were all of italian decent.
The vault was fitted with entertainment holotapes that all contained material at least offensive to one of the groups inside.

It was only filled on half capacity when the doors sealed allowing for reproducing and creating multiracial children.

The vault was expected to succeed and was issued 5 GECKS, 3 more than normal, one for each group.

But when it opened, they had all united...

The year is 2150 and rain falls across the Irish Sea as it has always done. Throughout the entire british Isles there was an unfamiliar silence of human civilisation, only nature stirred on these fabled islands now. But there was one, tiny speck of humanity to be found, right in the centre of the british archipelago, deep below the Isle of Mann. In vault 14 the remainder of the british population toiled and went about what had become their daily routines. But in the central core of the vault, an important discussion was occurring.

"The signs all look good, more than satisfactory in fact! It is in my professional opinion that we have waited far too long to make this move. The time is now, the Vault will soon be unable to support the population. The people are ready to inhale the fresh british air once again." Spoke a scientist who was giving his annual report on the surface conditions. Although his job was to simply give the facts and figures he couldn't help but express his wishes to open the vault. Across the table sat the brooding Queen. For 5 years she had been queen and she had been waiting for this moment for which she knew she would be remembered for. Her worry was, would she be remembered for leading her people into a new age of prosperity, or for bringing about their doom.

"Mr Denali, you would do well to know your place, and it is not to give orders to your queen." She let the command sink in for a while before turning to the prime minister. "My prime minister, you are ultimately the elected leader of the state, I'm am here to advise you only, and my advice is, should the conditions on the surface prove to be adequate for rehabilitation, then do it." The prime minister was vain man, constantly working to improve his image, both in his looks and his persona. Being known as the man who recreated the british state on the surface would have him go down in history as one of the all time great leaders of the nation. There was no chance of him passing up this opportunity.

"Thank you your majesty, well I have come to my considered conclusion. Well done Mr Denali, you have convinced me, you get your wish. Send the first exploratory teams up to the surface, dispatch a few ships from the sub-vault harbour too after they have been refuelled from our reserves, use it wisely. We need to know what we are dealing with on the surface, all your gadgets and tools are no match for human eyes."

Within the hour, the orders were carried out. Patrol boats circled the Isle of Mann, reporting a few strange occurrences but nothing to cause definitive worry. On the island itself the towns and few cities had gone well in to decay and disrepair but there was plenty of material to be reused for constructing the new town around the vault. The space research facilities also looked pretty intact too, it may prove to be helpful when it comes to adapting to this new and alien world they found themselves in. By the end of the day, the sky was filled with a myriad of colours from the radioactive pollution that still lingered on in the atmosphere.

SAN FRANSICO (HOME OF THE OIL RIG)

The small contingent of 20 power armored soldiers marched slowly through the city, the remaining citzens choosing to hide within their "Houses". According to Richardson's orders they were to conquer the city, then begin the rebuilding process. Orders like these were easier said than done, given how hostile the "Police force" seemed to be. They stood at the end of the street, group of barely 10 people, wearing pieced together armor an carrying spears, seemingly due to their lack of guns. The 4x5 contingent neared the force, The battle hymm of the republic blaring from a set of speakers in the back next to the flag bearer. The force was a amazing sight for the almost uneducated people who lived in the patchwork city. Their black T-51b armor with orange eye slits, the Enclave E with the 13 stars on their upper right arm. All 20 either carried a Laser Rifle or a Plasma rifle , minus the heavy troopers carrying Gatling Lasers, "Sleeping Giant" was not a bad term to describe the force, let alone the entire Enclave. Twitches were obvious the closer the force got, nervous men, unfamiliar with combat, let alone facing a force with so much obvious training. Bu he closer the contingent got, the twitches were more obvious, whispers among the scared force. When the force as within 10 feet, the police scattered, throwing down their weapons and running of into buildings. The leader of the force came forward, carrying the US flag, walking up to the town hall like area, he placed the flag down and shouted out : WE RECLAIM THIS CTY I THE NAME OF THE ENCLAVE AND THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
What don't you understand? I CAN'T DIE!
As if that gives you an excuse to live.

Dawn broke and the guards awoke to see a nobleman walk out.
Image
Although surprised the 50 guards stood up straight and saluted and one of them asked "sir, with all due respect, what are you doing here?" To which he replied "I am coming with you to explore" the guards smiled and the guard said "cool". An hour later the tents and supplies were packed and they began their walk. For the first time in just under a century the satellite was transmitting a signal other then all clear as it received and transmitted between the "walkie-talkie" that the nobleman had.
The 50 guards and the count looked out onto the horizon. Looking down at his compass the count said "We go northwest" and the guards said "yes, sir" they trudged for ruffly a quarter mile uphill through foggy grassy plains before they had a relatively clear view of the surrounding area. They saw many amazing new creatures like bears and rabbits that they caged for scientific research after being shot by the counts tranquilizer gun. The ground where they made camp at, on the top of the hill was rocky and left cold from the melting snow. Below them where the snow had melted around them was a dense swamp like area like the Carboniferous period. One guard took out an old telescope and propped it down. looking through it he was skeptical but past the swamp they saw something amazing "Count look down there" the count stood up and came to where he was being called. *Ring* *Ring* the count took out his Motorola brick (satellite) phone like walkie talkie and heard the grand duke, "Count where are you?" "My apologies Corran. I should have told you, I am with the expeditionary party (happily laughed) and you won't believe what I see"
The count couldn't see it but the grand dukes face was flushed free of expression at hearing his voice.
Back in the vault the upper class festivities were ending for the day. The nobles clapped politely and stood up. They filed out of what has come to be known as the royal court. A red carpet extended out of the royal court and into the hallway by way of an archway. outside of the archway on the opposite side of the hallway was another archway that led to an aquarium.

Berlin
Hitler sat in his office, with the Reichs two flags behind him. He was waiting for a report on Munich when a Courier came in his office and saluted him. "Mein Führer, I have news" he said as he handed Hitler a Scout report. "Ah, so the British survived the Great War, well we should greet them unlike what we did in the 1930s" he chuckled. "What should we do?" the Courier said confued. "Send the Reichs former British Ambassador, he may be a Ghoul but he still is Charismatic" Hitler replied. "I shall inform the Ambassador right away" the Courier said as he left Hitlers' Office.
Munich

Soldiers stormed from their Trenchs into the streets of Munich, gunning down anyonw who blocked the way for a Re-unified Germany. Soldiers lobbed Grenades and ducked down for the explosion and got back up once again. When the fighting was over and Munich was in the Reichs hands, the General who led the Charge had the Privilage to raise the Reichs flag over Munich. 34 Germans lay dead and 134 Munichians are as well.

BoS base

A Computer started going off with a signal. Than they heard voices talking to each other over what appears to be a phone. "I want people to figure out where that signal is coming from. Also get a message ready to signal to them double time men." The commander of the communications area said. Someone at a computer replied "they are Northwest very far but it will take some time to track down their location." "Ok can we send the message to them" "yes" the commander walked over and began to type

Hello this is the Brotherhood of Steel. We are also the remnants of the US military. Where are you located and do you need help.

The message was sent to Newfoundland which the BoS does not know that where the signal is coming from.

The Raider Base
Raiders were walking around preparing attacks and sending out groups. Out of now where 25 BoS solider's came guns blazing walking towards the house which the Leader was. Some guards went running east and west then they saw 25 solider's coming from East, north, and west. The men slowly pushed forward because of so many raiders attacking. When they reached the house they barged in and killed the leader. About 4 raiders surrendered and they were loaded up with BoS armor to carry back to their vault. All the slaves that were there which was 13 was taken to become BoS solider's. About 3 BoS men were killed and an estimated 80 raiders. The 97 men that survived was ordered to go to the Boneyard which were known as Los Angels before the war. They had rumors of power armored men down there that was not BoS and have a big E on there Armour.

ADAM'S AIRFORCE BASE(NORTH CAROLNA)

The largest cache of Verti-Birds within the Enclave buzzed with activity. The Contingent of 500 loaded gear onto a set of 5 Vertibirds for the 50 man expedition to the North Carolina capital. The 50 man expeditionary force was predicted to be more than enough to fight any raiders or hostile forces within the city, if Verti-Bird reports of the city was to be trusted. The plan was simple. A 2 hour bombing run of the city using the bases 1 working B-29. After which the Verti-Birds and their machine guns would sweep over the "bases" of the city, taking out any remaining forces. After which the "Cleansing" would begin. But that was in the future, assuming that they succeded. The last of the 50 man squad marched onto the 5 Verti-Birds. Ready to strike at the Capital.

LOS ANGLEAS

The battle group of 100 stood at attention around the sand bagged base, they'd been trained to be ready for anything. But the group of power armored solders approaching scared the men to their cores. The order rang out behind to fire the artillery to get the soldiers attentions. BOOOM! The soldiers jerked stopping suddenly. A bullhorn came from the base. "THIS IS ENCLAVE TERRITORY, COME FORWARD WITH YOUR WEAPONS LOWERED AND STAE YOUR BUISNESS" Immediately the base came to lve the soldiers moving to battle station, weapon down but ready to be used upon the mysterious men.
What don't you understand? I CAN'T DIE!

Dawn broke and the guards awoke to see a nobleman walk out.

"What do you see count?" Asked the grand duke. "I'm looking at the map sir, I should see ocean but all I see are mountains. There's trees covering the mountains and a city between the mountains, judging by the sign we passed a while back I think its grand bank sir"
Corran getting the colour back in his face said "Well I'm glad your ok count, I'll check on you later" and with that contact ceased. Corran sat down on a rolling chair behind the technicians in the electronics sensor/ radar room when a message began to sprawl across the screen.
Hello this is the Brotherhood of Steel. We are also remnants of the US military. Where are you located and do you need help.
Corran replied by typing
Hello Brotherhood of Steel. This is Grand Duke Corran Knox. I am the official owner of vault 645 which is located approximately a quarter mile south east of the city of grand bank, on the island of Newfoundland. I am glad to speak to another living being outside of the jurisdiction of my compound. I am happy to say that I do not require any outside support at this moment. May I ask how you are contacting me? I was under the impression I had one of the last satellite dishes in the world, seeing as neither me or my predecessors have been contacted in just under a hundred years.
he ended his reply by pressing the enter key on the keyboard.

Then the second technical operator (technician) said "Sir, I'm glad your here look at the screen" Corran looked over and saw a global map zoomed in Germany with a bright light where Berlin had been marked on a pre war map. Corran began to think out loud "Hmm... We were just contacted by another group who claim to have been the pre war military, this proves that more human life exists out there" then he began to say "open broadcasting channel two, send it to the Canadian embassy in Berlin. If they answer we will know if there are people" "yes sir".
This is Grand Duke Corran Knox, owner of vault 645. Is anyone there? Can any human here me?
and he let that message run on a loop for the next few (3) days or until someone answers.
The maintence workers were about to leave the shielded room when one turned to the other and said "How many of these working cars and vertibirds do you think there are?" The other one looked at him and said "Not enough for you to be able to afford one now come on."

Seattle

A small group of 10 vault dwellers went out to explore.
The vault door led into a closed off underground space, looking like a sewer, minus the sewage.
at the end was a staircase, leading up to a heavy door.
As Micky O'Leary, the self proclaimed leader of the 10 and as well head of security in the vault slowly opened the door, he saw a street filled with tents and people.

One of them saw the door opened and called out to the others, before the vault dwellers knew they were surrounded by people, and one of them stepped forward.
It was a man in his forties, a dark bushy beard and a further turkish appearance.
His clothes seemed simple but clean and he spoke with a calm voice.

"Hello. I am Ismail Hamza. I am the leader of this group, which is called " the people of the book" by some.

We know you have many questions, but lets not discuss them here.
Your leader could come out here and we can talk.
Or i could come in and explain everything.
I will off course hand in my weapons and you can frisk me. I intend no harm."

Weary the vault dwellers complied and took the leader into the vault

Berlin
Hitler and Herr Goerring walked into the Chancelerys' radio room, still in use to this day. "Mein Führer, you should see this." said an operator. Hitler listened to the message. "So America wasn't completly wiped off Earth, begin a reply to the previous transmission" Hitler said. The Operator pressed a Red Button and Hitler spoke into the Microphone.
Hello, this Adolf Hitler, Chancellor of the Fourth Reich

Areas in between Berlin and Munich
The German army marches again and again onto settlements in between Berlin and Munich to unite the two major cities. Settlements that joined the Reich right away were treated with respect and had some detatchments from the German army to patrol the streets. Settlements that didn't, were met with shrapanade and shell, bullets and Grenades and were forced into Surrender. Once the cities in between Berlin and Munich were captured, road work immedity begun.

"Hello, I am glad to hear a response. As I mentioned before I am Grand Duke Corran Knox, owner of vault 645." Corran began to think to himself <Hmm... I am surprised that Germany has come back.> " forgive me for the interruption but my scanners showed an unusual amount of light being produced by the city once known as Berlin. May I ask how Germany has been affected by the war, and if it's environment has fared? He ended the transmission by playing a dolphin recording from the aquarium, in order to judge from his reaction the state of the environment in Germany.
-------------------------------------

The guards and count trudged through the swamp. The saw amazing things like dragonflies with 2 meter wingspans and huge crocodiles. Suffering a few minor setbacks along the way, such as tripping over the root of a tree and being attacked by a giant dragonfly, after passing many country/manor houses in surprisingly good condition (prompting suspicions of inhabitation) they eventually made it to city. It was a lot different then the marsh, do to it being drier and filled with pre war roads and buildings, albeit with a bit more break-down then before the war. They suspected this dryness to be attributed to its current mountainous surroundings. "Sir, this is surreal, it's like one of those ghost towns from the movies" said one of the guards "I still don't see why we couldn't take the counts vertibird or car" griped another, then the count turned around "Do you know how rare that fuel is, me neither but I bet it's pretty rare" they spread out throughout the street. They saw many waterlogged buildings on the side of the city that is closest to the swamp. They proceeded slowly, hoping their RCMP uniforms would prompt positive behaviour in any survivors that they meet.

Radio Room
"Germany was not affected by the war badly like the United States, for we were neutral and their for China nor the United States didn't target us, the main reason we're like the rest of Eartg, is do to Fallout.". When the Dolphin sounds began, Goering was annoyed and Confuesed."Why the Hell did he play the sound a Dolphin makes?" Goering asked confused. "I don't know, but I'm glad we aren't the only last Humans on Earth" Hitler asked. A Courier walked into the room and saluted Hitler. "Mien Führer, it is for you" he said why handing Hitler the letter. "Ah, so we have everything now in between Munich and Berlin" he said Happily. "Thank you, and here is something for your troubles." he said while giving the Courier 20 Euros

"Over hear sir" shouted a guard by name of Phil Agnte. He and a partner of his named William Clegg were investigating an old harbour in the city. Then the count showed up "What is......it?"
He stared at the harbour, although in disrepair it held a wealth of pre war objects like the rest of the worlds cities to be frank but this was more. Towering above them was a queenston-class auxiliary vessel. Another team of 5 guards came around the corner and gasped. "Pull yourselves together men, I need you to investigate that ship. When they turned to the gangplank they saw the ghastly site of a half eaton sailer hanging off the edge of the plank, his bootstraps keeping him attacked to dome of the uprooted nails on the gangplank. They climbed the gangplank into the ship. It was dark, damp and cold. They saw a pressure valve closed with a light coming from what appeared to be bullet holes that extended out into the outside world. A skeleton wearing an officers uniform was hanging onto the valve and 2 skeletons wearing usa naval uniforms lying beside him. Bits of flesh were still on the bodies. "Be ready men, these guys didn't die by the nukes" they looked out the gate and saw a mega sized crocodile, Phil quickly closed the gate and looking through the peephole saw it get snatched up by a long tentacle. "Oh crap" said the guards in unison. The count looked into his giant radio and clicked on the "talk" button. Adjusting the signal to each squad he said "Get what you can and run, I'm trapped in a queenston-class auxiliary vessel with 7 other guards, don't worry about me, get your buts back to the vault, guns ready, there's company in this town... Sea monster company". Unclicking the talk, button his reattached it to his belt and Pulled out a flashlight from his belt. After a few minutes of silence he whispered to his 7 guards that were with him, we must get to higher ground" and the guards nodded "but first lets see if this clunker has any fuel" through guards looked at him confused william said "What do you plan to do sir?" To which the count said "Get out alive, if there's fuel we will try and drive this ship out of harbour and if not we will try and shoot down those buggers" the guards had a look that was akin to a perfect mix between "fear, wonder and your crazy, let's do it" on their faces. They said a prayer for the people who are now the skeletons and turned towards the stairwell. The guards formed a semi circle around the bottom of the stairwell. A radroach tapped along the second floor it stopped and turned towards the guards and charged down the stairs. 2 guards grabbed their knives and stabbed at the roach, instantly killing it. The guards and the count moved up the stairs. They saw a large porthole where the door had been when they entered. Looking out they saw the bloody corpse of the crocodile dangling from the mouth of a large tentacle covered, squid like creature. Obviously heavily mutated by the radioactive nuclear fallout from the ocean. It's single blood red eye looked up at the porthole just as the guards and count ducked out of view. "Holy cow count what was that?" "I'm not sure, it looks like some extremely mutated octopus or squid with the legs of a frog, clearly not something pre war". The count loaded his tranquilizer gun and while still crouched tip toed his way towards the stairwell again. "Let's go to the flight deck" they snuck around the porthole and stopped at the bottom of that stairwell.

The grand duke was about to leave the room when his operator/technician said "The us military has responded grand duke. They have expressed their sincere compliments on your ability to not need any help in this age and have remained vague in their technological abilities by simply saying that they have their ways sir."

The force that was sent to boneyard was turned around and the 100 man group started heading towards necropolis. Another group of 200 men was also sent to go there. The orders was to kill all feral ghouls and bring back all civilians and unferal ghouls they can find. While the armies were marching to the city Bakersfield plan were being drawn up to send out BoS men all around America. 5 of the 10 BoS vertibirds was being prepared to go to Anchorage, which will carry approximately 40 men.

"Let's go to the flight deck" they snuck around the porthole and stopped at the bottom of that stairwell.

Looking up they cautiously advanced to the top of the stairs. Doing this to ascend another 4 floors worth of stairs they came to and walked around a few dead bodies that lay on the floor of the stairs. "We've got to find the bridge" Said the count. He saw a sign with fading pre-war letters printed on it that resembled the word "bridge". Opening the pressurized door he saw a sign with the word "Bridge" printed on it in fading pre-war letters . "Ah there it is" he walked down a long corridor to another pressurized door. Image He peered behind him. "These have been a hard time for all of us, I know we have never seen so much death in so little time, but from what I've read in the library there's something called a captains log written on one of these terminal detailing the history as recorded by the ships captain. Now let's find out what happened here" the count opened up the door and readied his gun. He saw a family of yay GUI in the main room and shot them all. "Quickly now, we've got 4 hours before they wake up" They walked over to a skeleton with a a white hat and blue captains suit. They looked at his skeletal hand, it had the key in the ignition. He let them be and looked out the main window. He saw his men fighting the monsters in the centre. But something was wrong, they were fighting to the ship. A guard found a terminal and looked at one sentence in writing.
"Saturday, October, 23, 2077. The ship has refuelled, and the guns are being cleaned just below the flight deck in storage. It looks like we have new orders to defend the USA territory of Newfoundland island's southern sector against native rebellion by order of the president."

Smiling Phil said "Sir, I think I know how we can help our friends, if we take the artillery from below deck I think... Or better yet I bet you can take that vertibird sir" The count looked confused but said "ya, I bet a chopper would work however..." they delicately removed the captains hand from the wheel, trying hard not to turn him to dust. They took out a Polaroid insta-film camera and took photographs of the bridge and turned the ignition key, and the whole ship came to life. They pressed on a button and the sirens sounded. The monsters ran at the foreign sound, even the tentacled one outside, creating just enough time for the 43 other guards to make their way to the ship. For good measure the count gave they a crash course in flying and they each took a tranquilizer gun and 8 each shared a Sea king. By the end of the night they had tracked down and captured the creatures making sure to cage them and put them below. "Good work, now just to procure the papers from the duke to make this legal." Said the count. But now we may rest for the night.

Seattle

While the Muslim tribeleader was informing the vault dwellers of the situation and about their plan, and some of the other tribes, something possibly bad was happening at the edge of the People of the Book's territory.

"Hamdullilah." one of the tribesmen led out as he saw a cloud slide in front of the burning sun.
"Finally a bit of shade."
"Yeah, and it could even mean rain too. Thats been a while, right?" The woman next to him said, as she was adjusting her rifle.
"13 months..." The slightly bigger fellow that was sitting on a car next to the two responded.
As their conversation continued they lost their focus and before they knew a group of nearly 50 had approached the borderpost.
The muslims got in defensive position and ordered the group to stop.
The group halted, and was composed off scarcely clad women, covered in warpaint carrying knifes, swords and other bladed weapons.
The others were heavily armored men, all having brightly colored hairstyle carrying a wide array of guns.
One of the women stepped forward, an attractive looking young woman, who the muslims knew was the second in command of the Amazones.

"We want that GECK!" She announced, standing in full sight, seemingly unimpressed by the posibility of snipers.

One of the men stepped forward, the muslims knew him too, he was the leader of the Dye Heads.

"We heard the vault has opened. We want one of the GECKs. Scratch that make it 2!"

The woman called out to the group, nervously.
"You can't come here, the treaty says you can't come here!"
The larger man shushed her nervously. "Shadia, don't anger them."

The amazone called out again.
"Get Ismail then! Tell him we have come to collect the debt."

Shadia now bravely stepped out in the open.
"No. He is at the vault, talking to the dwellers.
You don't intimidate us, the Followers of Ghoul got our back, and the Riders have pledged allegiance too."

A truck slowly pulled up behind the blockade, and two of the Muslim tribesmen hopped off.

"If it ain't the amazones! And we got the Dye Heads too!
The vault opened, but I guess you allready know!"

Shadia relunctantly stepped out of the way, as the two men from the truck walked towards the group of tribals.

"Ismail ordered me to get all the tribes their leaders to the vault, he wants to draft a new union.
It's in the treaty. I was just on my way to get you all, but i guess this saves me time."

Back at the vault

"...so thats basicly it, the tribal chiefs will be here soon, and if we all sign the union, we can rebuild." Ismail finished as the overseer listened carefully.

"Can you tell me about those tribes?" The overseer asked.
Ismail smiled. "Off course.

Well you know us. We are a group that was supposed to enter vault 63, consisting of mostly asian and arab people, along with some scandinavians, and off course Turks like myself.
But due to malfunction, the vault sealed up too early with nobody inside, and us trapped outside, but we were in luck, and we survived.
We became a traveling group of muslims untill we settled just above your vault, waiting till it opened.

Then there is the followers of ghoul. They worship the ghouls as blessed, and praise their pre-war knowledge."

"Ghouls?"
"Yeah, ghouls. They're pre-war mutants, they were scarred by radiation, and therefore look fucking nasty. But they grow real old, many of them were alive before the war.

Well there is also the Riders. A traveling tribe, who rely on their motorcycles to get them by, and while usually not too hostile, they can get pretty intimidating when they want fuel and you won't sell it to them. We don't really know where they get the bulk of their fuel but they seem to have a steady supply.

Then we have the Yakima Nomads.
Groups of Nomads that travel the area with their brahmin."

"Brahm-?" "I'll explain later. You have a lot of catching up to do."

"I bet."

"We also got the dye heads. A group of warrior scavengers, they got some bad ass armor, usually either pre war millitary armor, self made metal armor, police riot gear, and even a few suits of power armor. They allways dye their hair in bright colors, to indentify eachother in battle. Their guns are a lot less impressive though, they are still among the best armed, but we outgun them.

We also have the Amazones, a women dominated tribe, their warriors wear little clothing sometime seven toppless or naked, allways covered in warpaint, deadly with their knives, we heard they came from a vault down south, after hacking the door and opening early, but those may be legends.

The rest you will learn when they get here."

With the town secured the call went out to the vault,
"Grand duke we have secured the port town of grand bank. We have found numerous scientific discoveries and will send off vertibirds to secure the quarter mile area between us and the vault. We would be honoured if you would attend and if we could have the annual science fair for the first time since the vaults closing outside the vault. I would be honoured if the nobles would attend as well. We have captured numerous sea monsters for display and truly a dock of the ages sir."

If what you say is true count, then you have done me a great service and might be set for an upgrade to your title. I will make my way to your town, I trust you will have it clear of interruption by those that would harm to us. The science conference is in a weeks time and If the discovery is worthy we will hold it there and as usual we will count on our predecessors satellite dish for advertising the event. Where do you expect to hold it in the town, count?

Your majesty, I expect to hold it in the Harris house. I expect no less then every radio in the duchy to be ablaze with your documentation sir. Will you be giving us the honour of taking your grandfathers airship?

I will count. Good day count. I will see you in a day, I expect all hazardous wildlife to be clear from the flight path.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the ending of the call all 4 sea kings flew along the flight path and found that there wasn't much in the line of threats. There Geiger counters also didn't find much in the way of radiation, but some albeit not much was coming from winds coming from the south east where St. John's had been. With the flight path cleared they returned back to the ship for maintenance.

Upon confirmation of the of the assumed threats along the flight roof being neutralized, the vault was ordered to have all non essential power services turned off and unplugged (neutralizing ghost power drainage) becouse for the first time since the last nobleman flew in before the vault was sealed the flight hanger on the vaults top floor was opening. This was a huge power drain thus the need to shut down all other non essential systems. All helium had been stored in carefully maintained containers and were now back in the airship. The other 3 airships, and 100 helicopters and cars (one for each original first class vault dweller) in the first class vehicle storage section of the garage remained grounded due to fuel constraints and there not being necessary. The first class had left in one of the 4 airship while the guards kept the peace in the vault. The ground opened up into a casm as the plates opened up to the airship storage area. The airship had the nobles file into the large ship.

OCC : Holy cow! Ur Canada and the Verti-Bid was't even officialy in service yet, How does Canada have it? It wasn't even in service till 2085 and it was in limited numbers. Canada was under military law, they certainly wouldn't move Verti-Birds up there
What don't you understand? I CAN'T DIE!
As if that gives you an excuse to live.
