As per the most recent season of the Nova Anglican Rugby Union, here are the qualifiers for SEASOGS (2 instead of 4):

Queen's Cup Winner: Durovernum Cantiacorum (DC) Dragons
Lion's Shield Winners: Sept-Iles Chanteclairs

OOC: We have only 8 teams in our league, so it seems a bit silly to have four qualifiers for SEASOGS. If that messes up the number of entrants, I'm sorry.

MNB Rugby Union Premiership Season 1

Postby Macquarrie » Sun Apr 13, 2014 5:47 pm

The Contest
The Macquarrie National Bank Rugby Union Premiership is a 2 tier domestic rugby union contest, run in a double round robin league format. The 2 divisions each consist of 12 teams. The top 3 in each division play each other in a semi final (2nd v 3rd) and a grand final to decide the champion. The bottom 2 teams in division 1 are automatically relegated and the teams that compete in the division 2 final are promoted to division 1 in their place. The 10th place team in division 1 and the losing semi-finalist in Division 2 play in a relegation/promotion play off. The top 4 in division 1 also qualify for the Seasogs Championship.

Rugby Union

The most popular of the two codes. League clubs took the IRLCC by storm, while Union clubs still did extremely well in Seasogs. And both codes grew immensely in recent years following the huge successes in the international club competitions. And then the Rugby Union World Cup came around. Ko-oren took the world by storm, and this reinvigorated the national league of Rugby Union.

The clubs are still the same 10 as always. It is just that the number of amateur clubs grew somewhat, and the amount of rugby players tripled in just three years. And here we are: season 17 of the KRUL (Ko-orenite Rugby Union League).

One trend continues from season 16 at least: an invincible (well, almost) champion, and a poor runner up. Last season, Corona Borealis finished second with a negative PD. This season, Aquila kept their PD positive, but it's just one fourth of Lyra's. And as always, the question is 'so how big are the differences between the teams?'. Lyra is strong. We know that. They have a number of national team players, and they hold Seasogs, what did you expect. Aquila and Vulpecula are directly beneath that. The first finished six points below Lyra, the latter had a 10 point gap between them and the leaders. Phoenix are next, with both Coronas and Andromeda. These four finished within seven points of each other, and this year's fight for the fourth Seasogs spot was more exciting than ever. Another plus for Rugby Union. Well, actually, only Cygnus seems to be far behind the rest. They finished a full 10 points behind the rest.

As said, Lyra takes another title. Aquila bounced up from their 5th place in season 16 to second. Vulpecula was the champion last season, but they are now third and there is no shame in that. Phoenix comes from a sixth place to fourth. And the only other teams that ever held a title (Cassiopeia and Monoceros) seem to be not much more than a fraction of their former glory. 8th and 9th.

Rugby League

Rugby League is considerably younger in Ko-oren. Many people were used to Union, but the newly introduced code was quickly popular among those that did not really saw the appeal in Rugby Union. The 10 clubs that formed the national league are all still there, and the structure of the Rugby League season is almost identical to Rugby Union's. We can still easily see how both sports relate.

The difference is indeed in the history of both. Union: Ko-oren holds a few Seasogs, and even the RUWC. League: Ko-oren has played in one RLWC, and is currently in its second attempt, but at least the clubs do extremely well in the IRLCC.

Six seasons underway, and Epiprocta and Sympetrum have definitely emerged as top teams. Both lost only 10 games this season, to a total of 36. They obliterated their opponents together: 78 and 76 points, with 3rd placed Tonbo on 59. Maybe this is what happens: 4 teams to Seasogs: we have three strong teams, and the last Seasogs spot seems to be like a wildcard. IRLCC: two teams. And we have two strong teams, with not many signs that their quality is diminishing.

Just one thing: Anax won the title in season 5. And now they are sixth. Apparently there is some dynamic in our league, at least. Well, Epiprocta and Sympetrum dominated this season so much that they forced even third placed Tonbo to a negative PD.

Seasogs: Lyra, Aquila, Vulpecula, Phoenix
IRLCC: Epiprocta, Sympetrum

The Qualifiers for the next RUCT Seasogs from the 33rd Season of the Wishton Rugby Union, which also includes teams from the nations of the the Cardwith Islands and Kenega, are:

Jalakra Jaguars (HTJ)
Vesselle RFC (HTJ)
Hesttens Serpents (HTJ)
Port-au-Rex Rays (HTJ)

* Curious Note: This may be the first all Hutanjian submission to the Seasogs, but two of the cities may not be in the Hutanjian fold much longer. Currently, hostilities have re-commenced between Cardwithian and Hutanjian forces and both Jalakra and Hesttens, on the island of West Cardwith are in the process of being enveloped and on the verge of being conquered by a joint Cardwithian/Falkasian blitz.

A few notes on procedure:
With an impressive 64 teams being submitted from 16 leagues (14 of which had previously submitted results, though one not since all teams had long since lost all rank), tournament organisers settled for the following solution to the scheduling issues.

Winners of the thirteen leagues to have submitted results in the past five editions received a bye to the group stage, alongside the defending champions. Except the defending champions won their league, so the 'defending runners-up' Muskulchi'tirhia Sparrowhawks got the fourteenth bye. This left fifty teams. The bottom ranked twenty-eight teams of this fifty (which included those joining new this season and those returning after more than five seasons away) were sorted by league and randomly paired up to a team from a different league in order to play a single qualifying match. The winning fourteen progressed to the second qualifiers with the remaining twenty-two for a second qualifying match that gave us our final eighteen qualifers.

For the Group Stage, teams were seeded by rank into four pots, and then randomly drawn, with no two teams from the same league permitted in the same group.

The draw for the Round of Sixteen is drawn randomly so every runner-up played away to a group winner, with no two teams from the same league permitted to play each other. Remaining rounds were drawn randomly.

Also, I've noticed a few signups in the same format as Commerce Heights requests for the UICA tournaments. Whilst I appreciate the effort, if you really want to help me do signups quicker then the best thing to do would be to just list them one after another, each team on a different line, in the order in which they qualified. Without numbers or bullet points. Like how I do in my league submission. It's not a mandatory request but if you really want to help, that's how to be helpful.

Congratulations then go to Dwile Jerseys, who do first time what national rivals JK Memorial Squad couldn't do until the third time - win a Seasogs final, becoming the second Apoxian club to do so. Intriguingly, it was Dwile Jerseys who had to knock out all three Licentian clubs, with the tense looking scoreline in the final perhaps describing aptly what happens when two clubs who know each other very well meet in such a high stakes environment. Lowest scoring final so far it might be, but it was no less of an occasion, that's for sure.

Sraith Rugbaí Náisiúnta season 1

Sport in Ancharmunn has generally at best reached a semi-professional level, the exception to that approach was always rugby league with the denizens of the code striving to present a polished, professional product through the Tynealan Super League. However the Rugby League World Cup 12 incident that saw the sport's suits vanish along with the governing Ancharmunn Rugby League body's money saw all that change with the image of the competition left in tatters. Quickly professional rugby league in Ancharmunn ground to a halt with the game restricted to locally based amateur and semi-pro competitions. However an uplifting, even if ultimately unsuccessful, appearance in the recent World Cup in New Sideburn has seen Charmunnry rugby league regain it's verve. A successful Province of Origin series on the back of the World Cup campaign has seen a national professional league formed once more.

Twenty four teams have been drawn from across the country (though fans of geographic diversity have been quick to point out that 'across the country' on this occasion actually means mostly from Ballyfeeaknock with a handful outside the capital given a chance). In time the league is intended to be a two tier affair, however for this season the 24 teams have been split into two randomly drawn groups of equal-standing. The top six from each group will then form the top tier next season, whilst the bottom six will make up the second tier.

Of the Tynealan Super League teams, all the Charmunnry civilian teams return, though some, such as Caernankry Miners Welfare under supposedly more marketable names as Caernankry Canaries. Gone are the three teams representing the armed forces, whilst the four Aelsh teams also remain incognito. League chiefs have however remained opened to Aelsh representation in the future and have even talked of foreign expansion further afield should the opening seasons prove successful. Also dropped is the Tynealan Rail Cup competition, though rumours abound that a pre-season nines competition could be brought in as a future replacement.

So with all that out the way, the results...

Province of Origin series
Machairster 24–16 Slievester
Slievester 34–4 Machairster
Machairster 25–12 Slievester

Machairster win the series 2-1

Commonwealth Rugby Union Premiership: Season III

Earo and Tanamera are joined by Frecmenta. Good news for the clubs in Earo, as they'll now have opponents to beat up on, rather than being the ones beaten.
