Bristish Elections 2014

Postby Great Briston and Northern Ileman » Sun Apr 20, 2014 11:56 am

It's Election Time in the UK! The 3 Main Parties plus 3 minor organisations are vying to take up some of the 270 seats in Parliament, with the seats being distributed by Proportional Representation. 136 seats are needed for an outright majority.

Here are the Parties that can be voted for;

Conservatives- In favour of individualism and free market capitalism, the Tories are currently the major party in the Coalition ruling the UK. They have slipped in popularity due to their savage welfare reforms and austerity measures. Last election, held 120 seats

Liberal Party- The perennial also-rans, the equality loving, civil rights introducing Libs have not had a majority since 1920. They entered coalition with the Tories in 2009, promising to hold their promises. They went back on each and every one of them, such as opposition to rises in tuition fees. They are expected to lose most seats. Last election, 22 seats.

Labour- founded to represent trade unions, Labour have lost most of their socialist beliefs. They are far more open to capitalism now, but still maintain a defence of the welfare state they founded, including the NHS. They have vowed to overturn most of the Coalition's welfare reform, which is proving popular. Last election, 90 seats.

Ilish National Party- The INP currently hold a majority in the Ilish Assembly, the devolved assembly in Northern Ileman. They are committed to a referendum on Northern Ilseman leaving the UK and entering union with the Republic of Ilseman, which left in 1934. The referendum is scheduled for November 2014, with a landslide Yes predicted. The INP are predicted to win some seats. Last election, 4 seats.

Green Party
- hold many commitments similar to all environmental movements, including nuclear disarmament. Last election, 4 seats

Reform Party- having come from nowhere a decade ago, Reform now have more seats than the Liberals. They are committed to federalising the UK to stave off Northern Isleman leaving the Union, more regional intergration, more referendums on key issues and economic reform like banking regulation. Last election, 30 seats.
