Congratulations to the Lowanaki Anchormen on winning the 17th BCCC! The finals are turning into a home game for the Vaians, after their second consecutive win. They blast past three-time winners Ile Perrot Epee, after both teams won their semifinals in just two games. Not that Ile Perrot Epee should be sad over losing the final: with their fifth finals appearance, they overtake Karditan's Fillydelphia Fillies as the team with most finals appearances!


BCCC 18 entry details:
Every league is allowed to send four teams, multiassociational leagues (though as of yet there are none) are allowed to send up to six teams, of which a maximum of four teams may be from the same league.
The deadline for the 18th BCCC will be 24-Apr-2014

Host bids will follow the same criteria as last season: entry must at least have a stadium name, capacity, and city. The Finals venue will be determined via a knockout vote style. Last place stadium in the round is dropped out, and at any time a stadium gets more than half of the votes, all voting ends and that stadium is determined to be the host. If no host bids are received, the Finals will take place at the National Stadium in Sraltlur, Ko-oren. This also opens the host bid for the final of the 18th BCCC: you may submit your host bid along with your entry details, the deadline of which will also be 24-Apr-2014

Kolo Lahi Stadium has hosted, among other events, the finals of World Baseball Classic 27, the 15th, 16th, and 17th BCCC, and the Maklohi Vai Baseball Tournament.

In Kolo Lahi, there are a few primary interests for tourists. The first of these is the water sports, which are conducted on a series of beaches to the southeast of the city. Nearly anything that strikes your fancy can be had there: scuba, snorkel, water ski, surfing, you name it, there's some outfitter that has it. Since this chain of beaches is at the end of a bay, the conditions are nearly always perfect for whatever you want to do. The second main interest is the food. Kolo Lahi is home to the best Polynesian cuisine in AO, with dozens of restaurants serving everything from the most casual breadfruit with guava to the most upscale and trendy Vaian fusion dishes. This style of cuisine is the next step in Maklohi Vai's culinary tradition, and at the forefront is Polo's Kitchen. Serving Vaian fusion cuisine since 1994, Polo's Kitchen is the mastermind of chef Polo Shukawa-Mutarakanai. His half Vaian, quarter Japanese, quarter Portuguese background gives him a wide variety of cuisines and cultures to draw from. Polo's is already a hit in Maklohi Vai, winning fusion restaurant of the year 5 years running. It currently has its hub location in Kolo Lahi and an expansion branch in Andossa Se Mitrin Vega. The third main interest is the museums and cultural sites. When the Maklohi Vai's population isn't watching sports, they maintain a deep interest in their cultural background. To facilitate this, there are a number of museums, largely in Kolo Lahi, that deal not only with Maklohi Vai's history (http://www.nationstates.net/nation=maklohi_vai/detail=factbook/id=30404), but also that of other Pacific Island nations. Together, the museums have won several international awards, largely due to the depth of their information and their accessibility to the common man. If you prefer a more outdoor cultural experience, a good place to look is Point Mua (25 minutes west of center city), the first point spotted by the ancestral seafarers who founded the nation. It is largely accessible to visitors, except for the tip, which remains a place sacred to many Vaians.

Going into its 5th season, the ABF Commissioner decided to add 2 new teams and expand the season by 8 games. The Pandas and Bankers clubs formed baseball teams, but came into the season with low expectations.

Last year's surprise team, the Raptors surprised everybody by holding a 2 game lead on the Falcons and Knights at the midway point. Surprisingly, both the Tigers and Storks managed to pull ahead of the Bees. Meanwhile, the bottom fell out for the Green Sox, who had an injury-plagued first half of the season. The Bankers and Pandas, however, were as bad as advertised. In fact, they were so bad that 7 of the Original 8 were above .500 at midseason.

The second half of the season saw the Falcons run away with the ABF title. The most decorated team in the ABF, the Falcons won their 3rd ABF title in 5 seasons. The Raptors, however, were able to hold onto a BCCC berth, which they clinched with 5 games to go. On the final day of the season, the Green Sox came in with their spot also clinched. The Knights held a 1 game lead on the Bees. The Tigers, facing the Knights, decided to start a pitcher who was making his first ABF start. This pitcher threw a complete game shutout and homered to give his team a 1 to nothing victory. Later on in the day, the Raptors jumped out to a 2 to nothing lead in the first inning. The Bees tied it in the top of the second, but gave up the lead in the bottom of the inning. After 3, the Raptors led 4 to 2. The Bees scored a run in the 5th to cut the deficit to 1, but gave it back in the bottom of the 7th. Then, the #8 hitter on the Bees came up to the plate with 2 outs in the top of the 8th and a runner on first. The Raptor setup man tossed his fastball, one of the fastest in the ABF. The bat made contact with the ball and the Bee shortstop had just the second home run of his ABF career, at the most important of moments. After several innings of deadlock, the Bees produced a run in the 12th and their closer struck out the side, against the middle of the Raptor lineup, to force a best-of-3 tiebreaker series.

The Bees won the tiebreaker series in 2, but it wasn't easy. After nearly blowing a 3 run lead against the Knights in Game 1, saved only by a highlight reel catch by their center fielder that robbed the Knights of a walkoff home run, the Bees had to overcome a 3 run deficit in Game 2. In Game 2, the Knights center fielder was in the exact same position with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, but he dropped the ball and the Bees tied the game at 3. After conceding runs in the top of the 11th and top of the 12th, the Bees tied the game both times. Finally, they managed to score the winning run in the bottom of the 14th, after their leadoff man ignored his 3rd base coach and went for the winning run, beating the throw by a split second. The Bees had, once again, earned a spot in the BCCC.

Truth be told after their (on the whole) humiliation in their first outing at the BCCC, none of the Jujooan teams had much interest in putting themselves forward for this international competition again. Had it not been for the Grandmaster Shaman; worthy and just ruler of this land, then this entry would probably have not happened. Another problem encountered by the Jujooans is the rules. The rules of Baseball being if only ever-so-slightly different to Ball-Hitting was enough of an obstacle for beings who scarcely have enough brain matter to remember to breathe and eat. Auto-asphyxiation being one of the most common causes of death amongst the zombies ... that said, they're already dead per se so ... well, it gets a little complicated. Don't worry yourself about it and I won't go any further into the grisly details of Jujoo's accidental suicide rates. Anyway, the 'air iz gud' government campaign seems to be having a positivie effect upon curbing these statistics.

So, Ball-Hitting. The major difference between the two sports is that in ball-hitting you can only score with a home-run as zombies don't really get how the bases work and attempts to train them resulted in a sort of rugby match with a base as the ball. Possibly the terminology 'stealing a base' confused them. So in Ball-Hitting, you simply have to smack the ball as far as you can and luckily, strength is not an area in which the Jujooans are to be found wanting. An umpire may have to give a player a prod of such to coerce them to actually make the run and we can provide muzzles for our players if it would make you feel safer about prodding one. They do get a little grouchy about wearing them though and in fairness, I'd be more concerned about the gargantuan arms of a 7' behemoth than it's mouth. Especially if one such arm holds a large wooden bat.
