The IS-3 and T-10 are the only commonly known IS-series tanks to have the inverse-dome turret, compared to the far more well known medium tanks to bear the same turret design.

This is descended from the T-72 in my universe, Oale. My heavy MBT will look more like the positively sexy Obj. 277, which is directly descended from the IS-tank line.

I believe they were lighter and more compact, but probably not by anywhere near the same margin you see in small arms.

Did it for the speed of light. Got less perforation.
Also did it for warp 9.9999999 converted to km/s, and only got like 1500mm perforation.
