No. 11 Flight Training School, 18 May 1940; No. 610 Squadron (RAF Gravesend), 29 May 1940;
No. 610 Squadron (RAF Biggin Hill), 8 July 1940; No. 319 Squadron (RAF/SOE Tempsford), 7 January 1941AWARDS, DECORATIONS, HONOURS, ETC.:
According to information gathered by the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6,
a certain FELDWEBEL (SERGEANT) HANS GERLACH was to receive the (SPANIENKREUZ) Spanish Cross in Silver*
by the German government for distinguished services during his two years with the Condor Legion in the Spanish
Civil War. However, the directorate also reports that FELDWEBEL GERLACH mysteriously disappears from known
sources shortly after being recommended the award - presumably in an act to protect his true identity.
For reasons only available to authorized personnel, the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6
hence believes that FELDWEBEL GERLACH and SGT. VON VEGESACK are one and the same man.

Distinguished Flying Medal, 18 December, 1940.
*Medals of foreign service or from foreign sources. The directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6,
notes that various sources perfectly correlate these awards and reception dates with those given
to a certain Soviet LT. OLEG SELEZNYOVA - an inferred pseudonym of SGT. VON VEGESACK.DISCIPLINARY RECORD:
Primary concerns regarding SGT. VON VEGESACK are mainly based in the nature of
his past endeavors in life. The directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6, has officially deemed such
information as inappropriate for this category; those with authorization and proper clearance should refer to
SGT. VON VEGESACK's service record on Page 4 of his dossier for known information
gathered by the directorate's sources.
Otherwise, SGT. VON VEGESACK has had quite a smooth, if not interesting, personal track record:
commanding officers and fellow airmen alike all describe a "good intentioned" and "mellow minded fellow"
of the man.Superiors of his same middle age regard SGT. VON VEGESACK as a
source of inspiration and consultancy regarding various aspects of anything German - the subjects
of which SGT. VON VEGESACK possesses great, almost definitive, knowledge.
Perhaps most influentially, CPT. MALAN, the acting Squadron Leader of RAF No. 74 Squadron,
described SGT. VON VEGESACK as "the kind of man who only fuels the curiosity of others when he explains more.
I could imagine him running a classroom when this war ends."
However, SGT. VON VEGESACK's blatant Germanic and Scandinavian heritage,
not to mention his especially fascinating physical resemblance to German ace pilot Adolf Galland,
has ultimately led to a notorious incident detailed in the following passages:
- 25 July, 1940: Whilst engaged with No. 610 Squadron in a ferocious battle against a wing-sized element of
Junker Ju 87 'Stuka' dive bombers attacking a Royal Navy MTB (Motor Torpedo Boat)
flotilla off the coast of Dover, Kent, SGT. VON VEGESACK managed to successfully engage
and shoot down a Ju 87 at close range. However, his Mark I Supermarine Spitfire was severely
damaged in the process by flying debris from the enemy aircraft as it exploded.
His aircraft was sent into an uncontrollable stall as a result,
and SGT. VON VEGESACK, at the urges of his comrades over the radio,
bailed out and safely parachuted over the Kent town of Walmington-on-Sea.
However, SGT. VON VEGESACK landed into the coastal town's greengrocer shop,
which was also owned by the local ARP Warden WILLIAM HODGES.
In the testimony following the incident, HODGES testified that SGT. VON VEGESACK'S
crashing arrival from the roof of his shop greatly startled him.
When SGT. VON VEGESACK, still dazed by the impact of his landing, asked the warden for assistance,
his strong Germanic accent and physical likeliness to German fighter ace Adolf Galland led to
HODGES mistakenly assuming him to be the aforementioned figure; despite the presence of his RAF flying uniform.
HODGES thus panicked and, according to the testimonies of many civilian bystanders arriving
to investigate what was going on, ran screaming into the streets for Walmington-on-Sea's Home Guard platoon
under the command of CPT. MAINWAIRING to arrest the purported "Adolf Galland".
Several minutes passed by the time SGT. VON VEGESACK had managed to free himself
from his parachute reins using a personal knife and CPT. MAINWAIRING's Home Guard platoon
arrived on scene at ARP Warden HODGES' shop. According to all testimonies therein, including that of
CPT. MAINWAIRING and Warden HODGES, SGT. VON VEGESACK initially attempted to surrender
to the Home Guardsmen surrounding the shop. However, one of the Home Guardsmen
mistakenly discharged their issued weapon(s) as SGT. VON VEGESACK tried to open the door
leading outside to them; the two prime suspects behind this are believed to be PVT. PIKE,
who was armed with an automatic submachine gun at the time of the incident, or LN/CPL. JONES, a Sudan and
Great War veteran notorious in his platoon for an often trigger (or bayonet) happy and
overtly gung-ho fighting spirit under stress.
Testifying as fearing for his life in self-defense, SGT. VON VEGESACK henceforth drew his own
holstered handgun and returned fire out of the shop, managing to hijack Warden HODGES'
personal motorcycle which was still parked behind his business.
Luckily, no one was injured in the firefight, with only HODGES' shop suffering property damage from the gunfight.
CPT. MAINWAIRING then ordered his Home Guard platoon to give pursuit, using
LN/CPL. JONES' butcher's van as a vehicle to chase after SGT. VON VEGESACK.
The Home Guard officer also ordered a single member of his platoon to stay behind, the old and frail PVT. GODFREY,
who then telephoned the regional GHQ (General Headquarters) for assistance in hunting "Galland".
Within the hour, major military units stationed in the vicinity of the area, including the
Eastgate Home Guard platoon under CPT. SQUARE and as well as Regular Army elements of the
Royal West Kent Regiment, were alerted to presence of "Adolf Galland",
whom was apparently "shot down" over Walmington-on-Sea and fled on foot.
It should be noted that it was the units of the local Home Guard garrisons that played the most important part
in this incident: both initiating but resolving it in the end too. CPT. MAINWAIRING of Walmington-on-Sea's
No. 1 Platoon demonstrated impressive initiative in coordinating his hunt for "Galland" with a
supposedly rival commander, CPT. SQUARE of Eastgate. The two Home Guard units thus set up a
hastily prepared but effective pincer movement using their respective transport vans to pursue SGT. VON VEGESACK.
Whilst fleeing from CPT. MAINWAIRING's Home Guardsmen, SGT. VON VEGESACK lost control over
HODGES' motorcycle while trying to not crash directly into a makeshift road block set up by
CPT. SQUARE's Home Guardsmen from Eastgate. He was then restrained and held in custody of the two units.
It was at this exact time that GHQ Kent was notified by RAF Biggin Hill about a missing airman
from within its squadrons who was lost over the area that day; had it not been for the timely intervention
of the troops of No. 12 Platoon of the Royal West Kents arriving on scene during SGT. VON VEGESACK's capture
by the Home Guardsmen, the RAF pilot may have not been able to clear up the misunderstanding
for perhaps the next several hours.
The settling of such a waste of time and resources in the services of His Majesty's defense was,
at the insistence of SGT. VON VEGESACK, a particularly calm minded Walmington-on-Sea Home Guardsmen,
SGT. WILSON, and MJR. OAKMAN of the Judge Advocates General of the British Army, primarily
a non-legal and informal process. It was agreed upon that SGT. VON VEGESACK would spend
at least three days a week providing community service to the citizens of Walmington-on-Sea
until a deadline of 31 August, 1940. Meanwhile, the members of the town's Home Guard platoon
were to grant SGT. VON VEGESACK a warrant commission within the unit, as compensation for
unnecessarily escalating the situation. SGT. VON VEGESACK would serve as CPT. MAINWAIRING's
RAF liaison until the same deadline.TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:

*foreign service, as reported by the sources of the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6.
**the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6, reports as so in accordance
to what is on official and trusted sources regarding SGT. VON VEGESACK's services
with the Chinese government under the likely alias of LT. SELEZNYOVA.
Given the fact that the location of the ROCAFA was already overrun by Japanese forces by the time of
LT. SELEZNYOVA's arrival in the region, this lavish title may only be a simple pseudonym
for much more obscure location.
- Type qualifications: Junkers F.13 (2 April, 1929), Junkers G.24* (14 March, 1931),
Svenska Aero JAKTFALKE* (9 October, 1932), Dewoitine D.27* (26 June, 1935),
Messerschmitt BF 109A-0** (1 February, 1937),
Polikarpov I-16*** (1 September, 1939), Supermarine SPITFIRE (25 May, 1940)
- Demonstrated proficient flying skills regarding current RAF service; peers remark about SGT. VON VEGESACK
having the charm of learning and adapting quickly to new things.
*Accreditation confirmed by various sources of the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6.
**the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6, infers that SGT. VON VEGESACK
had handled this aircraft during his services in the Spanish Civil War.
Confirmation has been difficult as SGT. VON VEGESACK must have operated within the Condor Legion
under a false identity, presumed to be a Luftwaffe FELDWEBEL (SERGEANT) named HANS GERLACH.
***the directorate hence also believes that SGT. VON VEGESACK piloted this aircraft under the guise of
Soviet airman LT. OLEG SELEZNYOVA in China.

- 13 May, 1940: Enlisted into R.A.F in Stockholm, Sweden under supervision of a
Secret Intelligence Service operation led by MI6 SPECIAL AGENT D. ECKERMAN.
OPERATION ALCIBIADES is deemed a success by the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6:
its primary objectives of coaxing or pressuring high-value individual PERICLES into entering the
services of His Majesty are successful. MI6 SPECIAL AGENT D. ECKERMAN describes that:
"PERICLES remained quite calm and sturdy despite the details of his surveillance
described to emotionally shake him into submission." A agreement was made between the MI6 operatives
and PERICLES that the latter's services and loyalties to His Majesty were to be rewarded
with a salary of 142 pound sterling per month.
- 18 May, 1940: Posted to No. 11 Flying Training School to receive basic instructional flight training.
- 29 May 1940: Basic and combat flight training curtailed under orders from the Secret Intelligence Service,
which cited confirmed past flight and combat experiences deeming further training
unnecessary under extreme circumstances. Awarded Pilot Brevet; posted to No. 610 Fighter Squadron
with rank of Sergeant, effective 30 May 1940.

787593 VON VEGESACK, A.V Page 4 of 4MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:
- Notes on enlistment status: SGT. VON VEGESACK's military service under His Majesty are and
will be under the covert surveillance and supervision of the Secret Intelligence Service and
its respective directorates. He is well aware of this, as the personal disclosure of such information
to him was necessary in the manner of his original recruitment supervised by the directorate of
Military Intelligence, Section 6 in OPERATION ALCIBIADES. As a result of this supervision, SGT. VON VEGESACK
was able to rapidly progress through the standardized training and procedures of the RAF with
the unknown aid of the services handling him; the Secret Intelligence Service deemed the
intensive training received by common RAF recruits to be a woeful waste of time,
citing past reports gathered on SGT. VON VEGESACK's many years of flight experience.
It should be noted that although SGT. VON VEGESACK is currently deemed a high value individual
by the Secret Intelligence Service, he is not to function as an official agent or asset of
those respective services. Rather, he is what is to be deemed a "trusted individual"; one who operates
on behalf of His Majesty yet is not considered officially a member of the United Kingdom's intelligence services.
Notes on prior civilian occupations: SGT. VON VEGESACK, according to sources of the Secret Intelligence Service, had originally studied as a surgeon, but resigned his commission shortly after receiving his license.
He then worked for the next several years as a hospital archivist. In 1929, he applied for a job as an airman for
the Swedish airline AB Aerotransport, where he stayed for the next few years - as MI6 SPECIAL AGENT D. ECKERMAN comments: ". . . thus, justifying him as a very experienced flier that His Majesty's air force so in desperation of in these times."
-Notes on prior military service: SGT. VON VEGESACK, adhering to the law of conscription in native Sweden,
possessed basic training as a basic infantryman even before his career in aviation. Using his aristocratic family
foundations, he was able to enroll as a non-commissioned officer at Military Academy of Karlberg. By the time
he was discharged from compulsory service, SGT. VON VEGESACK had risen with a warrant commission of
Second Lieutenant. Shortly after his time spent as an airline pilot for AB Aerotransport, SGT. VON VEGESACK
accepted a recruitment offer by the Swedish Air Force, becoming a fighter pilot in the process. During his years
spent in this service, he eventually came to assume the title of Lieutenant by the time he offered his services
as a mercenary. Given his prior service as an infantryman, SGT. VON VEGESACK should most likely eventually fit in
with the nature of No. 319 Squadron, whose intended purpose was to function as both an air and ground special operations unit.
- Notes on received pay and salary: As part of the signed agreement between SGT. VON VEGESACK
and agents of the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6 regarding his original recruitment
into the RAF, SGT. VON VEGESACK is to receive additional pay alongside his standard RAF salary
of an annual (yearly) £237 pound sterling to fulfill the signed agreement granting him a monthly £142
- thus, he is to receive payments of £1,704 pound sterling per year. MI6 SPECIAL AGENT D. ECKERMAN,
who handled OPERATION ALCIBIADES and oversaw the agreement with PERICLES, comments:
"It's absolutely outrageous yes, but it is us who are to blame; he (PERICLES) merely was smart enough
to settle upon the monetary proposal as said by our superiors." To fulfill His Majesty's part in the agreement,
SGT. VON VEGESACK's salary is to be drawn from the monetary base gathered from OPERATION CAMBYSES
if necessary. See Air Ministry - RECORDS OF PERSONNEL - 668492 for further reference.
- Notes on strategic value and worth: MI6 SPECIAL AGENT D. ECKERMAN comments: "He's
(PERICLES) been through experiences and perspectives that very few have survived to tell about, even in our directorate.
PERICLES' technical knowledge of both German and Soviet equipment, tactics, and doctrine, coupled with his
inferred experiences with the governments of Argentina, Germany, Falangist Spain, and China will be of great
service to His Majesty, especially within the Special Operations Executive which is due to be in need of activities
within these respective fields of territory and knowledge.
- Notes on foreign air service: Information gathered by the directorate of Military Intelligence, Section 6,
and other branches of the Secret Intelligence Service, strongly supports the notion that SGT. VON VEGESACK
was a known mercenary pilot and soldier-of-fortune for much of his life. This assumption has been made
after painstaking studies of various sources within international governments associated with the locations
that he may have participated in conflicts with. According to sources in South America, SGT. VON VEGESACK
may have operated within the Argentine Air Force under the alias of a Spanish Republican Air Force officer,
LT. RAUL ORTEGA. However, additional confirmation has been difficult regarding the identity of LT. ORTEGA
because of the chaotic outbreak of the Spanish Civil War shortly afterwards. European sources correlate a
relationship between the activities of SGT. VON VEGESACK, who was presumably out of his home country
on a lengthy business trip to Portugal, and the service of a Luftwaffe airman named HANS GERLACH during
the Spanish Civil War at the time. FELDWEBEL GERLACH, a member of the Condor Legion,
entered the war in early 1936 and mysteriously disappears from known sources approximately two years later,
the same time in which SGT. VON VEGESACK returns from his overseas business trip. Years later, Asian sources
manage to detail the presence of a Soviet pilot named OLEG SELEZNYOVA in the Soviet Volunteer Group of
the Republic of China Air Force at the same time SGT. VON VEGESACK leaves for yet another overseas
business trip in India. Although LT. SELEZNYOVA was presumed to be Missing in Action after his unit was
destroyed in combat in early 1940, SGT. VON VEGESACK is confirmed to have left India for home after being
hospitalized with injuries suspiciously consistent with surviving a plane crash shortly after.
Given these reports and intriguing circumstances, the directorate has concluded that SGT. VON VEGESACK
must have been operating under various aliases during his ventures as a mercenary.
- Notes on criminal and disciplinary record: Sources report that the German government had launched an official inquiry over
the identity of Luftwaffe FELDWEBEL HANS GERLACH, who disappeared weeks due to being awarded the
Spanish Cross in Silver for distinctive actions with the Condor Legion in Spain. FELDWEBEL GERLACH was
reportedly under investigation for fraud and espionage within the military establishment, as he was suspected
of being a foreign national of sorts. However, sources also claim that the investigation was unsuccessful, and
ultimately dropped with no suspects convicted - although FELDWEBEL GERLACH's immediate superior,
OBERFAHNRICH FREDERICK VON LOWINGNER was put under close scrutiny for his alleged close relationship
with FELDWEBEL GERLACH in Spain. As SGT. VON VEGESACK is suspected of being FELDWEBEL GERLACH,
he is thus wanted by the German government for crimes of fraud, false identity, and espionage.
MI6 SPECIAL AGENT D. ECKERMAN comments: "His (PERICLES') close call with the Condor Legion, and thus,
the Germans, was perhaps our greatest card against him when negotiating his services to His Majesty.
PERICLES seemingly surrendered to us when we threatened to turn him over to the Germans despite the war
going on with them; that a handover with the Abwehr was certainly possible given the fact that neutral countries
such as Sweden become hotbeds for espionage in such times of war."
Despite his inferred multiple aliases, SGT. VON VEGESACK has apparently only come into the conflict with the
German government over his identities; his persona of the Spanish airman LT. ORTEGA has been overlooked by the
chaos of Spanish Civil War, while the Soviet officer LT. SELEZNYOVA has been officially written off as missing in combat.

5l389 TALBOT, G.M. Page 4 of 4MISCELLANEOUS NOTES:
Education:
St Cyprian's School, Eastbourne, East Sussex, l9l8-28
Eastbourne College, Eastbourne, East Sussex, l928-32;
- Achieved rank of Cadet Corporal, Eastbourne College Junior O.T.C.
- Member of school cricket, football, rugby, equestrian, rowing, sailing, and athletics teams
The Imperial College of Science and Technology, Kensington, County of London, l932-33 (withdrawn without receiving degree).
- Enlisted as Officer Cadet, University of London O.T.C.
Observations on personality: P/O TALBOT is reported by his commanding officers and peers to be an effective officer and an
agreeable fellow, though he is a bit of a paradox: at times he can be very open, particularly when conversing on military,
historical, and mechanical topics, yet at other times he is very reserved, almost to the point of withdrawn. His behaviour
off-duty does nothing to aid in unraveling his personality: he may enthusiastically join his peers at a nightclub or public
house, or he may forgo all companionship in favour of repairing his motorcar, reading, or listening to gramophone records
of Vera Lynn in solitude.
It is apparent that his personality issues were extant before his enlistment and are not a result of fatigue, and it is not
believed that they stem from any mental illnesses; as they do not affect his ability to carry out his duties, there is no
need to undertake any action at this time. However, it is not known what effects combat and fatigue will have on P/O
TALBOT given his temperament, so it is advisable for commanding officers to closely monitor his behavior and report
abnormalities to the medical officer.
Nick-named 'Gin & Tonic' by members of No. 26 Squadron, in reference to his initials as well as his favourite drink.
Has lost two (2) aircraft due to enemy action: Westland Lysander serial no. Pl720 (29 May l940) and Supermarine Spitfire serial
no. P8609 (l3 August l940).
Named his Spitfire 'The Brighton Belle', after the Southern Railway train and in honour of his home county.
Lived in the United States from l933 to l939; whilst there he competed in the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race in l934 and l935. Also
flew for the Seversky Aircraft Company at the Bendix Trophy and Thompson Trophy races, l936-l939; withdrew from the l939
races due to the outbreak of the war and returned home to enlist.
Designed 3l9 Squadron badge.

The guy we originally planned to play the (only) Nazi had a death in the family, so I had to play the Nazi, gunning down my friends with a broomstick while singing "Another One Bites the Dust". At the end I got blown up with a pineapple grenade (I actually bought it from the WWII museum in New Orleans, it had been deactivated) while everybody else was singing "Mama I'm Coming Home". It was so bad it was good.
