Antiquity Rises Rampant 2.0! (OOC/Signups/Open)

Postby The Nation of Hay » Tue Nov 26, 2013 8:54 pm

Mankind has started to build great civilizations, some eight thousand years ago. It spawned the Aegyptians, Sumerians, Minoans, and various other great civilizations. But, there are many more upstarts like you, trying to build a great civilization. Will you lead your people to victory? Will you write you and your people's name on the history books? Or will you just be the slave work force of another civilization?

Step forward dear leader, for your people need you!

This is an RP starting in 1500 BC. You will take control of a civilization (based off of a real one, or just completely made up), and try to earn yourself a place in history. The knowledge of bronze-working has spread throughout the known world, leading to a great era of warfare. Men ride chariots into battle across the vast plains of Africa and Persia, and great cities have begun to emerge all across the world.

Every IC page will be 20 50 100 years. Every page myself or a co-op will post a group of random events. These could be as minor as a small storm, or as major as a civil revolt. If you get too big without decentralizing, you'll most likely come across the latter. Also, please pick one specialty. Just because your specialty is warfare doesn't mean you can't have farmers, but it sets a bit of a mood for your nation, and gives a bit of information for potential rivals other players.

The original Antiquity Rises Rampant lasted for 15 IC pages, let's try and make this one last longer!

Specialty (warfare, farming, trade, etc): Trade

History: Without the rise of the Mycenaean Greeks, the people of Crete, Rhodes, and Cyprus were left alone after the fall of the Minoan civilization. The three island nations, looking to defend themselves and their interests, formed a union. The Cretan Alliance, with the large amounts of trade from Meopotamia, Aegyptus, Greece, and Italy, became very wealthy. The large coffers of the alliance allowed them to fund expeditions onto the mainland, and allowed them to field a sizable militia force in times of need.
Culture?:Primarily Greek. The Cretan Alliance is similar to the Ancient Greek Hegemony; each state has it's own ruler. The coalition is, however, headed by a council of men from each island.

Only one specialty my friend. Though, from the rest of your app, it looks like you're leaning more toward warfare.

Ah, it's okay. Honestly, a lot more history ends up getting developed over the course of the RP than you could make up off hand. Accepted.

By the by Hay, I wouldn't emphasize how this is a reboot, just make it seem new. Reboots that label themselves as such rarely attract new blood.

APP:
Name of Civilization: The Ameralite Dominions
Location: Central Iberia, from about Madrid to Barcelona
Specialty Artisanship
Nomad or Settled: Settled, though groups of young men called Hegemons tend to wander off in a semi-nomadic lifestyle.
History: The Ameralites are a hardy and numerous people, their skin tanned and swarthy and their eyes and hair as fair as blue ice and sweeping desert vistas. Their legends tell of how the Powers Above saved them from the Grinding Ice of the north, leading their forefather, the Ameral, south to this rich warm land. He and his sons ruled for many years of prosperity and peace, when all had plenty, but eventually the sons grew fractious and quarreled over who would suceed their father as lord of all the peoples. Ameral, advanced in years but still venerable and hardy, took each son his own way and showed them the land they were to rule. To Mara, his eldest, he showed the verdant shores of the Middle Sea, brimming with fish and gleaming like sapphires of deepest hue. To Tyre, his second oldest, his strongest son, he showed the marches of the south lands, their rolling hills, great forests, and untamed peoples. And to Larna, his youngest, he showed the beautiful slopes of the Marches of the Skies, the bountiful rolling hills, the vineyards and the farms. All three were content with what their father showed them, their tasks to nurture and care, and before the Powers Above they ruled on in peace. The Dominions still maintain familial bonds, intermarrying often, and have never warred in the long years since history became legend and legend became myth.
Culture: The Ameralites are a fiercely independent people, given to competition in all spheres of life. They are jovial, fond of good drink, and value loyalty above personal gain, though gaining their loyalty is hard indeed. Their cities are mainly built of stone, for they have no notion of collective defense, but rather each man fights for his home. The larger settlements of the people are governed by Brightlords, artisans of great skill and wealth, in conjunction with Battlelieges, men proven in war at the head of the soldier castes, the Battlelords. Governance is based on the Landsraad system; each man contributes of his wealth for the good of all, and receives votes in the Landsraad each half-year weighted according to how much he has contributed. Those who contribute much and are wealthy run the system, as do those who can sway the masses by their words, each balancing the other, as success determines the power of a man to influence his governance. The Aneralites are religious, but religion is a private affair between oneself and the Powers. Art and prowess in one's chosen calling is valued most highly, and a potter of great skill is accorded as much respect as a victorious military commander. Battlelieges and the three Highpribces may call upon the Bandsmen in time of need, which compose every second son of the Ameralites, who are traditionally trained yearly to be ready to fight their polises' foes, though they are only rarely called upon at all.
Quite the unofficial fellow. Former P2TM Mentor specializing in faction and nation RPs, as well as RPGs. Always happy to help.

APP:
Name of Civilization: Sorcus (Sorcuso Kingdom)
Location: Sicily
Specialty (warfare, farming, trade, etc.): Trade
Nomad or Settled: Settled
If Nomad trader or raider:

History: Much mystery surrounds the founding of Sorcus. Legend says that a warrior from Persia named Sorco was sent a divine message telling him to find a new city. The gods blinded Sorco so that he would not be influenced by where this holy city was politically, only that its land was beautiful and its people simple. Led by a hermit for over a year, Sorcus reached the Mediterranean. Braving the sea's conditions in a simple row boat, Sorcus landed on Socilia and was welcomed by a village elder named Crosio. Crosio was sent a message saying that a prophet and reformer would come. Sorcus married Crosio's daughter and started a ruling family that allegedly continues to today. Over time, the Sorcuso people conquered much of Socilia (Sicily). Ren (King) Darion the Great built many new cities, all the while still ruling from the legendary of Sorcus. Darion and his geographers had basic knowledge of the land around him. There were some people to the north, and some to the south. Everywhere else was water. Overtime, though, the knowledge of the land expanded to the entire Mediterranean. The Sorcusos continue to make money off the Africa-Europe trade lanes, but Socilia is getting rather crowded.

Culture?: The Sorcusos worship a Greek-like Pantheon, with the sky god Gaon being the god of gods. The city people often dress lavishly due to their trade wealth. Military is made up of a small professional force and a hoplite-system. The rural areas are crammed with farms, a sign of the dense population of Socilia.

It looks as though we've already attracted some new blood, but sure I'll take out the 2.0 :P I was thinking about tging some of the more active members of the original (Liech, EA, Adurnak, Sebt) about this one.

Also, accepted. And you should put up a map real quick for the 4 nations we have to far :)
