Also why the hell would Unibot be credible? O.o

Never underestimate the power of cynicism, pessimism and negativity to prevent terrible things from happening. Only idealists try to build the future on a mountain of bodies.

The Thing to Remember About NationStates is that it is an almost entirely social game - fundamentally, you have no power beyond your own ability to convince people to go along with your ideas. In that sense, even the most dictatorial region is fundamentally democratic.

I've got to agree with Solorni on this, Afforess. The writing style matches both Unibot's own writing and that of the now Defunct NS News Service, which was revealed to be Unibot.
Nonetheless, I'm curious to see how long this latest news service will last.

Oi! That's not what I said. I said Osiris being a raider region was a starting premise. If Osiris wasn't raiding regularly, the concerns regarding Ravania would not have surfaced. You have said this and Biyah has said this.

Exclusively raider is not true. Asta has stated on several occasions that she is open to a defender army as long as we can work out the logistics for how the two would work together.

She has said she is open to the idea of a defender army, but she has not denied that the region is "raider" at the present moment.

Astarial wrote:The region has a strongly-expressed desire for an active military. Given the current state of R/D, and given the individuals who have volunteered to put in the effort to build a military, raiding is essentially the only open option. So ultimately, we're raider because I approved it.

This is entirely a fabrication. Concerns regarding Ravania surfaced when Osiris' military was completely inactive and leaning defender, and are based on concerns about his trustworthiness given his actions and conviction in TNP. That Osiris' military is currently raider merely amplifies those concerns; it did not invent them.

I have attributed two things to you.

1. "She has said she is open to the idea of a defender army".

What you said: "As I said when this question was raised before, a second, defender, army is not wholly out of the question, but would need careful consideration."

You can explain how you were misquoted, because I don't see how you were misquoted.

2. "She has not denied the region is "raider" at the moment".

What you said: "So ultimately, we're raider because I approved it."

You can explain how you were misquoted, because I don't see how you were misquoted. Did you, at any point in your sentence, deny being a raider region? No. Also, how can you assert "we're raider" while simultaneously asserting "we're not raider"-- those premises are contradictory.

Detective Figs wrote:This is entirely a fabrication. [...]

This is not a fabrication. The fact that Osiris is raider was a starting premise of Biyah's ... he says this much in his own statement when he says:

Biyah wrote:I mention this because Osiris is raider, and TNP only dabbled in it, we're more at-risk for betrayal to his ideals.

Yeah no, I don't think that's Unibot. Though whoever it is is certainly copying the style. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

And if it IS Unibot, someone else is contributing to it, there are a few tells there which are obviously not his.

Ok well you're still dancing around my points none the less. So you said that Osiris being raider was a starting premise, not Ravania being defender. Neither of these are true. R/D was not a starting premise nor do I believe that if Osiris didn't raid people would still be trustworthy. Again Ravania was selected for rejection because of past incidents. While Biyah believes that Osiris raiding will multiply this, it is not the original number nor have I ever claimed it to be. Also you didn't address my point about Campania. Really if you want to actually talk and hash things out please address my points, not just one of them. The fact that R/D is getting tied to this is horseshit.

My post says that Osiris is not exclusively raider. Yes it's raider but not exclusively.

1: It reads like Uni, but that means it could also be Glen Rhodes or another of the old cronies - all of whom share a like writing style.

2: I did, indeed, misspeak. I wrote that at work, and I intended to point out that he had been found guilty of espionage. I was having a 'treason' talk in regards to another region and someone else, at the same time. My mistake.

Why do people keep throwing Uni's name around? He did a good job with the NS News Express. I personally thought he did a brilliant job. This is the reason why he went under the name of another nation. People wouldn't believe a word he said if it was posted under Unibot III, because people are biased against anything he says. I find it disgusting that here in GP, people cannot find anything else to do except trash talk Unibot.

I bet you find it perfectly acceptable for the same thing to Cormac. Everyone has bias, yours isn't any less "disgusting", as you so pleasantly put it.

Whoever this is is a one-trick pony. They're pretty much relying on one line spoken by Biyah to make a story and ignoring anything else. Typical.

Strange Bedfellows: Raiders & Defenders Protest Regional Welcome Telegrams

Image

HELL FROZEN OVER -- The Black Riders, General Halcones' complaint regarding Welcome Telegrams has sparked wide interest and debate in the matter. Halcones argued, "I am shocked to find that welcome telegrams can be set in Feeder regions. They effectively act as free recruitment telegrams, while everyone else is having to pay real money."

Cerb, delegate for 10000 Islands, home to the famous Ten thousand Islands Treaty Organization (TITO), quickly supported General Halcones remarks. "Now they [feeder regions] get to also have a first in line recruitment message which is ahead of any user created recruitment effort...Feeders can recruit from anywhere just as UCRs can, they just don't need to have a first shot at nations created within their own boundaries. It is an unfair advantage."

Delegates of the offending regions were less impressed with the arguments. Delegate of the South Pacific, Belschaft, quickly pointed out Welcome Telegrams were operating exactly as intended, "Further, I should point out that welcome telegrams only exist because we asked for them to be implemented so we could use them in this exact manner. This was what they were intended for." Other feederites quickly made similar arguments, also claiming that the Welcome Telegrams were a fair recompense for all the disadvantages feeders have compared to standard User-Created Regions.

Both sides seemed stalled at an impasse, with no compromises reached when The Black Hat Guy, delegate of Versutian Federation, joined the debate armed with data gleaned from NSHistory's population census. In an album of graphs ( see: http://imgur.com/a/ek60B ), he plotted the sharp rise in feeder growth and retention following the Welcome Telegram implementation. Armed with this new information, Cerb, Afforess, and others reiterated calls for reform and changes to the Welcome Telegrams.

At this time, it is unknown what plans, if any, the Site Administration have in regards to Welcome Telegrams and possible changes. Full discussion may be found here: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=265767
