Well.... the rules dont explicitly make provisions for franchised factions, so I dont see why not. Remember, however, this is a story based creation rp, and it would be greatly appreciated it you attempted to make your own faction, so that you could personalize and master it. Remember, this is a faction you will have to RP for a long time, and the real question is if you will be happy ripping off somebody elese creation for such an rp.

The idea is that the race that created the Great Swarm, known simply as the Great Race, created them as a last ditch weapon to destroy the Empire once and for all. They were at first quite good, with every battle increasing their number. But once it reached a certain level, their collective consciousness sort of coagulated and partially disturbed the sleep of an ancient eldritch abomination, known as the Terror-at-Midnight or Damballah. The Swarm's collective mental capacity was at once corrupted and enslaved by Damballah, fusing with his own and creating the 'God-Consciousness'. The Great Swarm then turned on its masters, absorbing them and gaining their knowledge.
At which point the Great Swarm's attentions soon turned to the Empire.

Old Sarthal wrote:Sounds excellent. The idea Yort and I were going to do was that the Sarthantai'd were the "Creators" from the AIs' mythology, and the race itself was descended from the military AIs that commanded the defense of Athla (aka Ethlan) as the ancestors of the Republic's population fled. Would that conflict with anything in the Swarm canon, or could the two stories perhaps be tied in somehow?

It would of course work with canon. Though are the Creators those who made the AIs? And perhaps the defense of Athla was a battle in the Empire-Swarm War?

The AIs, sequestered deep underground to command the automated defenses, were one of the only forms of life to survive the Swarm's final assault.

So was the planet lost and regained, or was the final assault repulsed?

Thank you, I have one such Pre-exist faction that I can personalize deeply. *Goes back to application work*

No definable timeframe exists; Earth, as the planet we know it, doesn't exist. Since we don't have a fixed point in time to measure from, this RP is set in the present. The present as it exists for several varied civilizations and races, that is.

@Sarthal: So the Sarthantai'd retreated from Athla/Ethlan in order to save their species correct? They abandoned their creations, leaving them to their own devices, over time they evolved to the artificial lifeforms they are today. So how many years ago was the Swarm/Empire war? Since that would be the day the Artificial's nation started. The Artificials will most likely speak that imperial religious language.
@TNF: I wonder what would happen when a color of midnight used an Artificial as its host.
I'm thinking of making all the important Artificial characters have theological angel names. Like Ramiel, Jerahmeel, Zophiel, Penemue, Ambriel etc. And the ships will be named after other religious things, like the main flagship will be the Trials and Tribulations, or something like that.
