World Baseball Classic 27 Host Bid
Maklohi Vai and Saintland

The Maklohi Vai Baseball Association and the King's Government of Saintland are submitting a joint bid for the 27th edition of the World Baseball Classic.

Groups and Format

Recognizing that the past 3 WBCs have had 60 signups, we’ve compiled formats for signup numbers close to that amount. If signups are significantly less or more than the amounts stated below, we will endeavour to be flexible in getting a suitable format. We want to accept anyone who wants to participate within reason, i.e. no prime or ridiculously unworkable numbers. Group play will be double round robin. Playoffs will have 24 teams, with the (top) 8 group winners advancing straight to the Round of 16. The remaining group winners, if any, plus the second place teams in a 12 group format and the second and third place teams in a 8 group format, will advance to the Round of 24. As for series structure, the rounds of 24 and 16, plus the quarterfinals, will be best of three. The semifinals and third place series will be best of five, and the finals will be best of seven.

  • 54 teams: 9 groups of 6
  • 56 teams: 8 groups of 7
  • 60 teams: 12 groups of 5
  • 64 teams: 8 groups of 8

Puppets

Players who have previously participated in the WBC may enter one puppet. Players in their first WBC are limited to one national entry. If the field needs to be cut, puppets (in reverse order of entry) are the first to go.

Tiebreakers

Tiebreakers will be the same as those used in WBC 26 under Cassadaigua.

  1. Head-to-head record
  2. Run differential in all matches
  3. Runs forced in all matches
  4. Runs forced per 9 innings
  5. Tiebreaker game

Scorination

The current edition of xkoranate will be used with the NSFS formula, the same used in the last few WBCs.

Games will be scheduled daily through group play and in the playoffs. There will be a single day break between group play and the playoffs and in between playoff rounds.

Anticipated scorination times for each co-host will be announced.

Rosters

Rosters are appreciated and will be graded as a separate RP.

Rosters should include a RP permissions box (godmodding, injuries, choosing scorers, etc.) if players want to put restrictions on the roleplaying of their characters.

Roleplay Bonuses

Through the group stage, bonuses will be cumulative and non-degrading. Bonuses will be halved before the playoffs.

As always, quality over quantity. We appreciate creativity and originality, and especially like to see collaboration between nations.

About the Co-hosts

Maklohi Vai, currently a top 10 team and participant in the past four WBCs, has a small but diverse hosting repetoire spanning three sports. In 2012, the nation hosted the Maklohi Vai Baseball Tournament, a successful 10 team tournament that included some prime current WBC talent. In January and early February, Maklohi Vai cohosted a successful Friendly Cup 7 with Rovegia. In March and April, Maklohi Vai hosted three conferences and an international regional, plus the final, in the NSCAA 5 college basketball tournament. Completing just this August 5th, Maklohi Vai has hosted Friendly Cup 9, also run successfully. In addition, Maklohi Vai has scorinated several seasons of both association football and baseball domestic leagues, and currently ranks seventh in the world for domestic baseball.

Saintland, a participant in the last 2 WBCs, Saintland has previously hosted the Saintland Triple Crown, which was the first horse racing event hosted to completion since 2010. Currently, Saintland is hosting Beach Cup IX, a 48-team tournament that is currently in the playoffs. As Free Republics, the user behind Saintland hosted the 3rd World Korfball Classic, a 16-team tournament.

Naturally, IC information will be given in the Everything thread if this bid is successful.

World Baseball Classic 27 Host Bid
TAESHAN

Format:

Taeshan has formats ready for anything from 40 teams to 60+ teams. The most liked are the groups of 8 or the groups of 10 or 7. In most cases at least the top 2 teams would make the playoffs with play in series of best of three to be played for the all playoff games until the final series. In cases where their is more than 48 teams entered their will likely be top three teams make it to the next round. All group rounds will be double round robin.

40 = 8 Groups of 5
42 = 7 Groups of 6
45 = 9 Groups of 5
48 = 8 Groups of 6
50 = 10 Groups of 5
54 = 9 Groups of 6
56 = 8 Groups of 7
60 = 10 Groups of 6
64 = 8 Groups of 8
Yada Yada

Tiebreakers:
Tiebreakers will be first Games won, obviously, then H2H results. Tiebreakers after that will not be used due to the nature of the sport of baseball meaning home teams may not bat if they are winning in the ninth and such.

Scorination:
Taeshan will differ from the recent scorinations and plans on using the NSFS scorinator. The games will be daily. Scorination time has not been decided, and depending on when hosting begins it may change do to a certain sexy someone moving to a different place. That move though would only effect one day at most. All day delays would hopefully be given at least a day before in the most recent scorination before the delay.

RP/ Rosters:
Rosters would be appreciated but as in most cases are not mandatory. All Rosters will be given a one time RP boost. If necessary for your enjoyment you can add a permissions box for your opponents to know what you would appreciate them to do and not to do.

RP's will be graded on a daily basis. They will be graded previous to the cut-off to allow for a short time between cut off and scorination. All RP throughout the tournament will be cumulative.

About the Host:
The man, the myth, the legend, behind your hosting bid has a bit of previous hosting bid. You may know him from his Cup of Harmony 55 host bid with Hutt River, or his shocking hosting of the 14th Copa Rushmori. He also has run various sports league's within his country, and had a grasp of both of the major scorination vehicles.

The name Taeshan though is basically the sexier version of Qazox in the baseball world. Having competed in 21 of the 27 World Baseball Classic, and being one of the many veteran components of the WBC world, Taeshan is one of the biggest historical keys to the world of baseball. Once a world number one, after a brief period of inactivity in the sporting world Taeshan has come back with a fire in its eyes and now looks to hosts its first WBC.
