In 1798, James Archibald Whitlock and his business partner Robert Flint landed on the shores of Orange River Territory in search of adventure and gold. What they found instead was a beautiful land, whose rich acidic soil bore a wondrous gift. That gift was tea. Realising its beauty, the two men abandoned their search for gold and established the Whitlock & Flint Fine Tea Plantation, high in the foothills of the Orange Mountains. It is from this very plantation, as well as dozens surrounding it, that Whitlock & Flint is proud to bring you its array of fine teas.
Care and passion of the highest quality go into cultivating, processing and preparing our teas so that our love and dedication can be passed onto you. We believe that such a simple plant, which can produce so many aromatic marvels, deserves not only to be shared with the world, but to be shared at its best. This is what we offer. This is what we do. This is what we love.
We hope you enjoy shopping at Whitlock & Flints.

About Us
Tea is one of the most basic pleasures in life, but the tea itself need not be basic. Orange River Territory, a Commonwealth of the Anglican Overseas Empire, is by no means basic. Its vast mountain ranges and delicate sub-tropical climate intertwine perfectly to allow the growth of the finest tea plants. The soil, slightly acidic, contributes to their luscious flavours and the regular rainfall provides the perfect environment for our perfect tea plants. With twelve plantations scattered through the foothills of the Orange Mountains, Whitlock & Flint has taken this ideal natural environment and added our own passion and dedication to create truly unique teas, ideal for any situation.
It is not simply our tea that matters to us, however. Whitlock & Flint sincerely believes that only workers who are passionate about what they do, and happy in their job, can create the perfect tea leaves. Which is why all Whitlock & Flint employees are treated with respect and dignity, having been awarded the Duke of Portmore's Carnegie Award for Ethical Practice in Enterprise for the past two years running. Furthermore, throughout our centuries of operation, we have consistently strived to ensure that the communities which help us to produce your tea are themselves helped through our active community-building projects. The ultimate realisation of our social responsibility took place in 2008 when Whitlock & Flint registered as a Mutual Co-operative under Anglican law, giving ownership of the company to the employees themselves. We understand that the best tea can only be produced thanks to our employees' passion, and their passion can only be achieved letting them reap the rewards of what they sow.
After having quickly spread to control the Anglican domestic market through the 18th and 19th centuries, Whitlock & Flint continued to expand, reaching foreign shores and spreading the joy of the perfectly-prepared tea that is simply unrivalled. Outlasting multiple competitors and reaching across seven generations, we have rejected the crass generalisation of tea, retaining our loose-leaf heritage with pride and continuing to serve only the finest and very best to all of our customers. There can only be one reason for such a successful and long-lived enterprise, and it is quite simply our passion, our love, and our dedication.
Varieties
It is not just through the carefully-controlled cultivation that our teas achieve their subtle and unique flavours, but through precise and well-crafted processing too. Serving a full range of six different types of tea, including Oolong and post-fermented tea, our wide range of teas is sure to reveal something to tickle anyone's fancy, no matter the occasion.
What's more, Whitlock & Flint will always strive for the highest quality, meaning we never grind our tea into tea bags. Our products will always be entirely loose leaf, stored in a sealed bag and placed within our beautifully designed tea caddies.
