2014 Elections

Prime Minister Davies outlines campaign promises ahead of early 2014 elections
Elections to begin in early January following pre-election campaigning due to start in august.

Prime Minister Davies has been keen to avoid the topic of Rodarion in recent conferences.
Could he consider both his and their actions to be harmful to his reelection wishes?

Isn Deslen, Belfras - For many in Belfras, it is time to begin looking inward at the upcoming 2014 Parliamentary Elections. The two previous elections saw the Conservative party, under Ian Davies, win by a landslide and then a narrow margin. The biggest concerns on everyone's minds will be the performance of the Conservative party in past and present crisis' that Belfras has been involved or not involved with mutually. Ian Davies twelve years in office have seen drastic changes to the country from heightened tax to a complete revamp of the Armed Forces. The most prominent being the commissioning of the mostly classified Svarog SSBN and the as-of-yet unnamed replacement of the Perun BBVN, moves considered rash and 'archaic' in modern society where the nuclear threat is virtually non existent. A 2012 study showed that the threats that do exist are more than handled by the Bjorlan SSBN, much smaller than the Svarog.
    * Resolution of domestic economic downturn.
    * Increased funding to border protection force.
    * Creation of a new border protection organization.
    * Revamp of Drug Enforcement Bureau.
    * Lowered subsidiaries to Provinces with zero debt.
    * Decreasing retirement age from 67 to 62.
    * Subsidize small businesses in start-up costs to be repaid when that business is successful.
    For more, read here.

Davies' and the Conservative's main rivals are unsurprisingly the Unionist Party, whom claimed second position and occupy the formal opposition. The Unionist Party, which has been led by Theodore Lechance since 1985, has been critical of Ian Davies' leadership, calling it 'Old fashioned', 'dangerous', and 'borderline warmongering at times'. Despite this, Mr. Lechance launched a tirade against Rodarion which was aimed at Pope Pius III and the then-president Ceausecsu. Lechance's tirade drew condemnation from both the Conservatives and the Rodarion government, which was offended by Pope Pius III being labelled as a 'child molester' by Mr. Lechance.

Theodore Lechance has been largely out of the spotlight since his tirade in may but has been spotted at several fundraisers and a Unionist meeting held earlier this month to discuss the parties election campaign. It has been widely acknowledged that the Unionist's victory in the 2008 elections came as a protest vote in the immediate aftermath of the Kunarii riots, which saw dozens killed in days of violence. The evidence is that the Belfras United party, a group which actively seeks to reestablish the Belfrasian Empire, went from a single seat to being third in the 2008 election, despite being in the elections for the past one hundred years. If this is the case then it could be possible for the New Tories or the Masons to reclaim top spot, having been out of contention since the 2008 election.

"As much as they could be an protest vote, they could be a change in public opinion." Sir Nathan Wilsingham told reporters. Sir Wilsingham served as a senior guardsmen to King James during the first years of his reign and has since been deeply involved in politics.

"What you have to realize is that in 2008 people started seeing the world with new eyes. Wars broke out, some of which our country was involved in, and the end results were nothing that were worth the lives lost. Of course, six years has passed. But let's look at what's going on in recent months or even years that could persuade the vote. Davies faced off against Rodarion, a move that angered many Catholics in the country. True, they were insulting the country and even made an attempt to steal some of our maritime waters in the Draganesti, but it still angered people. War was almost declared for it and the man responsible is now about to rot in a maximum security prison. True, Davies was credited for the role, but it is hinted that Pope Pius III was tired of Corlățean's antics prior to the situation starting. I'll not even start on crime, with crime rates going up and the amount of drugs coming from the Western Confederation being higher than ever. People may be tired of Davies and his leadership, or they may vote him back in. Nobody has a clue at this stage, it is what's exciting about politics!"

With people scheduled to hit the voting booth on the second weekend of the new year many are already looking ahead to a Belfras under, potentially, a new leader. As is custom, any new Prime Minister will have to travel to the Golden Palace to receive formal acceptance by His Majesty King James, who has only seen two Prime Ministers in his fifty-year reign. Should the kings health decline further he may abdicate the role to that of the first in line, his daughter HRH Princess Catherine. Despite Catherine being the second child of King James and Lady Biel's marriage, her eldest sibling was forced from succession after being convicted of rape in 2004. HRH Prince Eduard has, since his release in 2009, been in the service of the Kings Gvardiya and married Lady Jessica Antell-Achilles.

Ship seized in Belfrasian Waters - Drugs found onboard.
'reliable tip-off' led to raid.

Member of H.M.S Núborn practicing boarding techniques last year.

Portsdown, Belfras - News from the Royal Naval Admiralty came this morning of the seizure of the cargo vessel 'Le'bleur' after recieving a tip-off that illegal goods were onboard. The night-time raid of the cargo vessel, flagged out of the Spherian Coalition, was seized in a boarding operation that was 'Flawless' says Commodore Hausing, spokesman of the Admiralty. In his report, he stated that H.M.S Núborn, a Harvard-class Frigate, was tasked with the boarding.

In his report, stated below, Commodore Hausing praised the efforts of the Núborn. The Núborn had recently been assigned to the Home Fleets patrol squadrons following a five-month refit that saw the vessel armed with the new anti-shipping missiles 'Foregangers' which feature heavily aboard new generation vessels. Previously the Núborn had been assigned to the Northern Pardesian Fleet stationed partially in Itailia but was returned along with several other warships for refits and reassignment.

"At 2350 hours H.M.S Núborn began operations toward the seizure of the Le'bleur following a reliable tip-off from the Royal Investigation Ministry. All protocol was followed and, after being ordered to cut engines, the Le'bleur began evasive maneouvers in an attempt to stop the Núborn's Lynx helicopter from being able to off-load the Maritime Security Team. Under command of Captain Michelle Fanportin, the Núborn fired a single warning shot from it's deck gun in front of the Le'bleur followed by another heave-to order, to which the vessel followed.

The Maritime Security Team successfully boarded the vessel at which point they were confronted with three individuals armed with semi-automatic weapons whom were aiming directly toward the team, leading to a gun-fight. Two crewmembers from the Le'bleur were killed in the following shoot-out with the third wounded and now recovering in the Naval Hospital here at the Admiralty. Investigators from the Núborn found a large amount of Cocaine onboard the cargo vessel. Following this discovery, the vessel was towed to Portsdown Naval Port by two commercial tugs that were subsequently paid for their work.

The Cargo Vessel was moored at 0525 hours and is now a cordoned off crime scene with members of the Royal Investigation Ministry leading the investigation. This was a well coordinated and flawless operation from the crew of the Núborn. The Chief of the Admiralty Nathan Fellbridge extends his congratulations and praise for the crew and that of Captain Fanportin."

Rioters rage through Nos Callis following Pope Pius' address.
Twenty-three killed during intense rioting.

Police officers could only cordon areas off and protect people being targeted

Nos Callis, Belfras - Police say that roughly five-hundred people were involved in a riot that took place in the financial district of Nos Callis late on thursday. The crowd had gathered for a televised address of Rodarion Pope Pius, as was usual in the city which has a large catholic population, only this time things got out of hand. Following the end of the address, a fist fight reportedly broke out between two of the crowd and a local shop owner, who apparently started to walk away prior to the address ending. From this point the violence evolved as rioters burnt out shops and lynched people.

The riot, which left a trail of destruction in the millions of Belfries, went from Galveston Avenue to LeMeurta Freeway on a fifteen mile rampage until dispersing three hours later. The damage, however, was done. Multiple shops were left burnt out and twenty-three lay slain in the aftermath of a merciless and, some say, targeted act of violence. Several witnesses reported hearing religious slogans and the name of Pope Pius being chanted as rioters took turns beating five people to death and hanged a sixth - A transexual who's name is being withheld.

Chief of Police Michael Garner said that riot police were deployed but that "the magnitude of violence" hampered efforts to quell the riot, leading them to only be able to "protect people and prevent the riot from growing in size." he regretted that several of the rioters were hospitalized after engaging in hand-to-hand combat with riot officers, resulting in non-lethal action being taken on the officers behalf's. Chief Garner said that "Seventeen shops have been burnt out and an apartment block has been evacuated following a fire gutting the first two floors. We've managed to arrest somewhere in the region of thirty."

The violence has been condemned by Prime Minister Ian Davies as a "religiously motivated attack" against people either not of the Catholic faith or known to breach Rodarion religious law. One of the victims, who's family do not wish to be identified, was attacked because the shop she ran was an underwear store, with pictures of women scantly clad in the shops merchandise. Another victim had anti-religious pamphlets in his vehicle and was dragged him his vehicle, which had been forced to stop by an on-fire dumpster being wheeled into the front.

The Royal Investigation Ministry (RIM) commented on the attacks, noting that they had been monitoring several people who are known to have been involved in the riot. Senior Agent Montgomery Seymour said that the men in question were "known to the RIM as having committed several religiously motivated crimes in the past and are known members of Unity, a terrorist group that operates to bring Catholicism to Belfras through violent means. I am joined by ministers and law officers alike in condemning this riot and promise all lawful citizens that efforts will be made to crack down on such actions occurring in the future."

As a result of this riot and a looming possibility of further rioting on Sunday, following the passing of a Rodarion by-law on the matter, the Nos Callis Police Department is due to make a full deployment of the anti-rioting unit over the following few days.

Pravene military action after Rodarion execution
Tensions mount on both sides following naval action by the Pravene government.
11/OCT/2013 | Theodore Umber (@UmberTeddy) (BNN)
Image
The two Rodarion-flagged vessels that were sunk by the Pravene navy.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - In a shocking and, some say, bizzare move by the Pravene government following the execution of 23-year old Vladimir Bratescu by the Rodarion government, the Pravene government has sunk two vessels which were homed in the Rodarion ports. The move, coming after a Pravene bar on all trade goods and an ejection of the Rodarion embassy, was met with anger by the Rodarion government.

According to the Pravengrian government, the move to bar all goods and eject the embassy followed the mass arrest of 385 people, including that of Vladimir Bratescu. The first vessel sunk was the RV Cervescu, which apparently defied an order to unload it's oil before departing for Pardesi waters. The vessel, which was chased into international waters before being sunk, led to the deaths of several Rodarion nationals. A day later, the RV Pulsa, a container vessel, was being escorted outside of Pravene waters when it was fired upon by three destroyers, igniting a fire and presumably killing the entire crew.

The Pravengrian government has refused to apologise for these attacks, calling them a retaliation for the enforcement of the Faith Acts in Rodarion, which led to the arrests and execution of Mr. Bratescu. Mr. Bratescu's charges amounted to eighteen counts of overt sexual behaviour, six counts of confirmed homosexual behaviour, seven of distributing pornography and five counts for reading illegal material. A final charge, that of distributing illegal material, was also added. The question as to why the Pravengrians would go to such extreme measures over an entirely foreign matter is so far unanswered, but many are questioning whether or not this is just a convenient opporunity for the Pravengrians to force aggression unto the Papal republic.

While relations between the Belfrasian Royal Government and the Papal Republic have never been easy, the general feeling amongst the ministers in Parliament today was supportive of the Republic. Whilst the same may be said about relations of the FCP and the Papal Republic now, they were once on friendly terms with the latter having oil rights from the former which has now embargoed all goods from the FCP to the Papal Republic. Amongst many questions needing to be answered lay one which will turn the ears of many Belfrasian businessmen; The OPA resolution in discussion banning all Pravengrian goods and vessels from Pardes.

While the move by the Organization of Pardesi Affairs is certainly seen by many as extreme, it has grounds in that it is a fair and just retaliation for what many consider an extra-regional attempt to dictate Pardesi national affairs. At the same time, however, one must consider the financial and economical cost of such a move. Many Belfrasian businesses are still recovering from the Belfrasian embargo of Rodarion goods, which itself is now subject to removal following an ease in relations and the election of a new Rodarion president.

Prime Minister Ian Davies was unable to comment on the matter, but the Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr. Oliver Crantellan was able to comment on behalf of the Prime Minister. Mr. Crantellan was able to comment as saying that "The subject of the Rodarion embargo has always been a hot topic for Parliament and was implimented to either be a temporary measure or to resolve the matter of several possible human rights abuses within the Papal Republic. If you'd allow me to make a, somewhat selfish, comment I'd have to say that this Pravengrian Embargo would allow Belfrasian businesses a good chance to make money and for our governments to meet on level ground once again."

Whether or not this move by the Belfrasian Government, if it happens, would change anything is yet to be decided.

Theodore Umber reported on this with the assistance of his junior correspondence team.

500,000 dead in Itailian massacre
Billions mourn whilst tensions mount after heated speech by Pope Pius
09/DEC/2013 | Samuel Ramsay (@TheRamsaySam) (BNN)
Image
Pope Pius was quick to denounce the act, which he claims was the doing of the Itailian government.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - Parliament convened for the first time since the terrorist attacks in Itailia, which claimed the lives of 500,000 men and women of the Catholic faith. This would be the last parliament Mr. Davies will chair before his flight to the Western Republic for a meeting with it's leadership. Both the Prime Minister and the leader of the opposition, Theodore Lechance, were united in a two minute silence held for those slain in the attack, which has already sparked controversy. Just days after the massacre the leader of the Rodarion catholic church Pope Pius accused the Itailian Government of orchestrating the attack and demanded that the Caesar admits his guilt. Whilst this occurs, acts of charity emanate from nations such as Tippercommon and the allied nations of the Central Defense Initiative. The Speaker of the house announced that both parties will be making a speech in regards to the crisis, with tradition dictating that the Prime Minister speak first.

"I shan't speak of the speech made by Pope Pius, nor shall I speak of any political ramifications of it or this terrorist attack." Prime Minister Ian Davies spoke after a two minute silence. "I shall simply speak as a humble man and say that my heart goes out to those affected by this tragedy. Regardless of which faith one might live under, it is easily said that those who have been slain by this atrocity now rest in a better place. Those whom carry on with the scars of that tragic day are those who need our assistance. Both spiritually and physically. Aid to the Empire is something that, most likely, is not required. They are a strong nation. A proud nation. One of which this nation is proud to be an ally of. Our offer of assistance will stand for the duration. For our national brothers and sisters who were affected by this tragic act of barbarism, we will be available through standard embassy lines, which have been picked up by a call center operated by the Foreign Ministry. Those with loved ones of unknown being in the aftermath are urged to contact this channel so that we may pursue identification with the Itailian authorities on your behalf. I believe I can safely say that security precautions will be heightened and urge those leaving or coming to this country by air to have their passports, entry visa, or citizen identification card at the ready at all times."

Ian Davies has been in the spotlight of criticism over the Papal Republic of Rodarion for a long time now. First with the pope and the last President's accusations of the countries barbarism, going so far as to hint that war against Belfras was a possibility. Second, and most recent, being with the ex foreign minister of Rodarion declaring that part of the Belfrasian's economic waters in the Draganesti was rightfully Rodarions. In response to this, Titus Corlățean was arrested and is now standing trial in Belfrasian court in a strangely quiet court case. Theodore Lechance, leader of the opposition and the Unity Party, spoke next.

"I would like to thank my colleague for this humble words in support of the slain Itailians. It goes without saying that the Unity Party also shares these views and our heart goes out to all affected by this. But unlike my colleague, I will not shy away from the startling facts displayed by the Papacy!" Mr. Lechance was cut off by shouts from the leading bench, which was silenced by the speaker. Mr. Lechance has been a long time opponent against Pope Pius, whom he has already denounced as being power hungry.

"The Papacy is seeking to claim ground by attacking a government not of their own faith. Or, should I say, not of their own influence? The pope has always sought to change both the governments of Itailia and Belfras to those who can be easily claimed as puppets of the Papacy. The bodies of those slain are still warm and, like carrion birds, the Papacy seeks to gain from it. The Pope has accused the Caesar of organizing this attack with zero evidence and has openly admitted to seeking military action. His talk of slaying a beast and 'going to' the Itailian Catholics. War speak, I say! This leads me to one conclusion - The Orducii must have organized this attack. The Papacy as their Orducii dogs have never been above sacrificing their own to gain ground in any endeavour. This is their most barbaric attack to date and, if I was in charge, we'd never stand for it!"

The speech, once ended, was met by a resolute Prime Minister who stood to denounce his colleague. With his arms raised and gesturing a motion from Theodore to the door, he began.

"Mister Lechance, this it not the time nor place for that kind of talk! People have died and you seek to place the blame on the Papacy? I say to you, good sir, you should leave this house if you wish to continue such heated sentences! I call upon the chair of the house to table a motion to eject Mr. Lechance for this words." the motion was carried by a minimal margin, and a furious Mr. Lechance was seen yelling at his assistants after leaving the floor.

The questions posed by Mr. Lechance are not, sadly, without basis. Pope Pius is extremely careful with his choice of words, meaning that what was said in his four hour speech was heavily decided upon and said with the same conviction in which all previous addresses were made. In his speech, he said: "I [Pope Pius] ask[s] the Itailian government to admit it's guilt, to confess its greatest sin before all of God's creation, or befall the same end that the apostates who committed this sin will face" This has been already translated by pundits as a threat of war over this terrorist attack, who the Pope blames solely on the Pagan-majority government. The actions of the Kingdom in the face of this, unfortunately, stand unknown. With the Prime Minister due to fly to the Western Republic, the head of the Central Defense Initiative of which Itailia and Belfras are a part of. Will Belfras honor its alliance with Itailia should events come? Time shall, as always, decide.

More follows.

Rodarion Government in conspiracy 'coup'
Action comes a day after condemnation by Pope Pius
11/DEC/2013 | Samuel Ramsay (@TheRamsaySam) (BNN)
Image
State President Codreanu speaking to journalists following his appointment

Isn Deslen, Belfras - After a so-called attempted coup by the President and Parliament against Pope Pius, the entirety of the Rodarion elected system has been scrapped by the Pope and replaced by a Military-enforced government that answers to one man alone - The Pope. Opinion was initially in favour of the move, given how the previous government had failed to maintain it's duties. But after an inaugural speech by the new State President and a further speech whilst visiting refugees, one is left with a chilling message.

In an anger-filled inaugural speech, State President Codreanu vowed that enemies of both the Rodarion State and the Church (In which he implied they were the same thing) would be dealt with "without mercy or quarter". It was in this same speech that President Codreanu drew attention to the massacre of 500,000 Itailian catholics at the "Black hands of Paganism." This chilling message was reinforced at a rally with Itailian refugees in which he said that Paganism had declared war on Catholicism. In this same speech, he made a direct threat that the Itailian government either cooperate with Rodarion in an investigation or face the high possibility of a Rodarion attack. He questioned what Caesar had to hide and passively accused his government of instigating the attacks, echoing words spoken by Pope Pius. During this, a release was announced which effectively banned free speech within the Papal Republic and arrested the staff of Vocea, a free speech supporting news agency. At the same time, men were arrested for sedition and summarily sentenced to ten years in prison. It would sadly seem as if the dictatorship of Rodarion has gotten worse seemingly overnight.

So far reaction from the Government has not appeared, leading people to wonder if they intend to respond, wait and see what happens or if they are planning to deal with this renewed aggression from the Papal Republic. Many pundits blame Pope Pius for the recent string of aggression, as it was him that originally laid blame on the Itailian government for no other reason then they are not a majority Catholic country, much like Belfras.

The reaction in Belfras has not been entirely negative. Groups in Nos Callis celebrated the news before erupting into a small riot that required the attention of the recently revamped Nos Callis Riot Police, resulting in twelve arrests. One suspect, known as 'Vlad', was heard cheering that "[Pope Pius] is never wrong! All hail gods true messenger! I pray that he liberate us from our oppressive government and a vile monarch that ails at his curse for his sins! Glory to god! Glory to Pius! Glory to Rodarion!"

Royal Air Force in apology to Rodarion Government
Action comes following aggressive Rodarion stance
17/DEC/2013 | Amanda Ridgestone (@AmandaRidgestone) (BNN)
Image
An MQ-9 Reaper, reportedly belonging to the same Squadron as that of the malfunctioning drone.

Nos Callis, Belfras - This morning in a slightly strange twist that sound's like appeasement, the Royal Air Force issued a formal apology to the Rodarion Government for what it deems an aircraft error. Colonel Azumyik gave a statement which varied from apologetic to outright accusational toward the Rodarion Government and it's military for what Colonel Azumyik termed as "Hostility without warning." Of all times for a potentially armed aircraft to errornously stray into Rodarion Airspace, now was arguably not the time. With a new State President giving hate filled speeches against Itailia and rhetorical battles being waged across the entirety of the Luzankya continent, this pebble throw is the equivalent of an atomic bomb being detonated.

Prior to the statement, we had been informed that Colonel Azumyik was on the phone with the Foreign Minister, the Defence Minister, and indeed the Prime Minister himself in the Western Republic. We have also been able to confirm that the Prime Minister has cut short his trip to the Western Republic following the increased tensions with Rodarion. The statement given by Colonel Azumyik in full is held below:

"The Royal Air Force hereby issues a full apology to the Rodarion Government. The MQ-9 Reaper experienced a technical and GPS fault meaning it's automatic way point system was reverted further south than originally intended. The flight path was meant to lead the MQ-9 over the Draganesti to take part in a mock drill with a squadron of the Draganesti fleet. Instead, by the time the error was realized, it was too late. A thorough review has already taken place and has found no fault in Flight Lieutenants Miller and Pavelchek, who disabled the autopilot and had turned their aircraft to leave Rodarion Airspace. We have currently ordered the MQ-9 fleet grounded whilst a technical review takes place, however we have already released a large number of them for active service following a complete check of systems. We are confident that this is an isolated case. However. I can confirm, however, that the Rodarion military neither attempted to communicate with or warn off the MQ-9 Reaper. They destroyed without a second thought nor civility what may have been a manned aircraft. This is, regardless of the situation, an inexcusable act of hostility that reflects the Rodarion Government's new hostile approach to it's neighbours."

So far military activity along the Belfrasian-Rodarion border has not been commented on. With the addition of dozens, if not hundreds, of Anti-Air batteries by the Rodarion Military it has already been seen that flights of the Royal Air Force have been straying closer to the Rodarion border in what was phrased as "testing the water" during the Western Civil War. An act in which aircraft remain in their rightful flight zone but in full view of enemy forces as both a show of strength and a test.

Belfrasian Armed Forces mustered
"We've never been closer to war." says expert.
07/MAR/2014 | Amanda Ridgestone (@AmandaRidgestone) (BNN)
Image
The third fleet, during exercises last year.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - At a time where the entirety of Belfras is threatened by the horror and devastation of war, the Prime Minister and the King have both mutually declared a state of 'Heightened Alert' for the Armed Forces. His Majesty King James, speaking from the Golden Palace, ordered the Armed Forces to an alert posture but neglected to activate the entirety of the Provincial Defence Force, stating that the PDF regiments of Callis Province were being activated to deal with the logistics of an increased number of mustered Military personnel.

Speaking from the Golden Palace, King James gave a typical address to the nation, speaking in the dialects of the High Nobility:
"My children, my countrymen, my brothers and sisters. It is a dark time we find ourselves in, where nought but our own steel and valour shall aid us to prevail in the face of tyranny and destruction. I speak to you now, as I always have, as but humble old man given voice to pressing concerns. Whereas last time I spoke of the grain shortages of Kunarii, I speak now of the ever-growing cloud of evil beyond our south-east border. Noise, we hear, from that border. This noise beckons haste to the fall of a society and establishment hundreds of years old and built upon the follies of old. This noise, my children, brothers, and sisters, is that of horror. The horror in the wake of a war cry.

Long past actionable alternatives, the merciless cry of war bellowing from Rodarion deafens those who hear it. They cry out for justice for the slain, yet they offer but more bloodshed as solution. Nought is the patience left within the veins of every honest Belfrasian man, woman, and child. The so-called man of god sits upon his throne in Romula and dictates that other nations are but veils of hypocrisy, lies, and oppression of Catholics. A man, already condemned by his international followers and suspected of crimes against humanity, spews hypocrisy and hate from the lips he claims utter the words of god. The actions I order this day are for one purpose and one purpose only - To protect and uphold the Sovereign right of the Kingdom of Belfras to defend itself from foreign aggression. My heart and mind is without doubt that these are dark days for our people, for the cloud of tyranny looms over us all.

They shall try to place heel upon the throat of liberty, freedom, and all things pure. I fear no alternatives to this will be accepted by Romula. Too far they have gone down the road of war and evil to stray back into the light of good will, nobility, and faith. The Pope uses his hold over billions to try and carve out for himself more land to call his own, more people to call his serfs as the old Kings of Belfras once did. Except, where my ancestors changed course, this reckless abandon for humanity by Pope Pius and his government comes in a modern time. Such things are never seen, making his actions all the more horrifying to my heart and mind. I am, as always, your humble national father and servant. May god, whatever name you choose to call him or her, bless all of you."

In the aftermath of the televised speech by the King, several orders were signed and quickly put into action with their corresponding districts of military responsibilities. The Army mobilized a further 500,000 personnel, to be distributed around Pentarum province along the border to the Callis Province. Whilst another 50,000 members of the Fifth Army, stationed in Callis, were mustered around the city of Nos Callis with orders to eventually reinforce the Belfrasian-Rodarion border. This particular order, according to the Ministry of Defence, comes after alleged reports that the Papal Army is to station another 114,000 men at the border, where roughly 450,000 Rodarion soldiers are already posted. The move, which is expected to coincide with an anticipated attack into Belfras, sparked the decision to mobilize the military in the first place. Combat air patrols near the Rodarion border have been ongoing since the crisis began many months ago, and have only increased in number and frequency after today's speech.

The navy was not exempt from deployments following this speech. The fifth fleet, which had been forming at a naval base in south-western Belfras, officially embarked on the journey to Laesico, where it'll meet with the seventh fleet, which is returning from the Eastern Central. The Third Fleet, until now stationed at Portsdown, also departed to join the growing flotilla. Several experts on military matters proposed that this is Belfras' presentation to the inevitable naval war against Rodarion, and to also defend Laesico. The dependency, home to both the CDI headquarters and one of the Belfrasian Navies largest naval bases, is in the firing line of any Rodarion naval offensive.

The Third Fleet, previously deployed to the Altrenian Island of Aletheia in response to the Anti-Communist Alliance's incursion into the region years ago, was waved off from Portsdown by thousands of on-lookers in a very public embarkation ceremony. Admiral Gertrud Bellious was seen from the command deck of her flag-ship waving to her husband and three children. The fleet, which will be coupled with the already deployed second and seventh fleets, will be deployed to patrol the area around Laesico in what was called a "Strategically sound plan of defence."

"Egotistical"

In an unexpected turn of events, the Rodarion government has declared it will only negotiate if the Itailian imperial province of Drakkar is allowed to leave the Empire. A move that would, doubtlessly, lead to a Rodarion attempt to incorporate the area into the Papal Republic. Such a move by Rodarion is not the first time in history a nation has offered a negotiation at a price that nobody is willing to pay in order to avoid being seen as the villain of the scenario.

Movements by the Rodarion Government to effectively take over the Embassies of CDI nations within the Papal Republic have led to the abandonment of many and the unconfirmed whereabouts of several members of CDI national embassies within the country. According to several experts, the move was executed by the Orducii and covered as 'protestors' in order to avoid breaking overtly breaking international law. In response, Prime Minister Ian Davies announced that

Charles Patheniew, a residential expert at the Isn Deslen University in regards to the political backgrounds of the region, was interviewed in regards to the ongoing crisis. "We've never been closer to war." Mr. Pathenview explained of the situation, "What we have is an egotistical nation spouting hypocrisies almost non-stop. They know that nobody believes what their government-run news organization publishes, but they do it so they can show it to their own people. It's highly likely that they also fabricate news stories from CDI nations to reinforce their propaganda that they need to fend off these 'evil heretics'. I'm Catholic, many people I know are Catholic. Catholicism is the dominant faith in Belfras, yet look how they treat us."

He went further into the situation. Saying that "The Papal Republic is one of increasing hypocrisy. They accuse CDI member states of arrogance, yet display increasingly arrogant delusions of grandeur at being the region's next dominant superpower. They believe this fact so much that they're willing to engage a war with multiple nations in an attempt to establish an empire for themselves."

When asked who was to blame for Rodarion's behaviour as an entity, he was rather blunt. "It is, without a doubt, the Pope. He attains absolute power, and this approach to international relations has endured several elected officials and now a coup by the military. The only fixed element is the Pope himself. That's why we advised the Parliament that any action to permanently remove this threat from the region itself was to remove the Pope from power. As a Catholic, it appalls me that a man could take and hold the seat of Christ for so long when he himself is the spawn of satan."

The possibly volatile remarks given by the expert was echoed by the Bishop of Nos Callis, who also denounced Catholic acts of violence against those of other faiths within the Province of Callis over the past few months. Bishop Volancis, a descendant of Rodarion immigrants, sent a letter to BNN headquarters. The letter, which is displayed below, outlines a daring plan to "Formally detach" the Catholic religion in Belfras from that of the Papal Republic. Typically, such an action is followed by the creation of either a new Papacy entirely or an antipope in competition to the one in Romula. Bishop Volancis, who was suggested to have been one of the Belfrasian candidates to become Cardinal some years ago, is possibly the best choice for such an event.

Bishop Volancis told reports that:
"I am Appalled and shocked that a nation of God could act so recklessly against peace loving nations and militarize so heavily. The destructive abandon shown by Pope Pius and his government is not the path an honest man of God would choose. Indeed, this path is not one that, as a good Catholic, I can abide by. Therefore I have issued a date of meeting with my fellow Bishops around Belfras to formally detach the religion in this country from the actions of the Papal Republic. What they are doing in God's name disgusts me to the core, as I know it does multiple heads of Religion around Belfras."

More as it comes.

Belfrasian and Estovakivan businesses in historic trade agreement
"This will open up avenues of trade between our countries." Deputy PM Mennington reports
17/APR/2014 | Amanda Ridgestone (@AmandaRidgestone) (BNN)
Image
Estovakiva's Irkana are quickly becoming the dominant oil organization within Pardes.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - Thursday morning was when rumors were confirmed for a lot of people. First, members of the Estovakivan's business elite were sighted landing in Isn Deslen International (IDI) last weekend. Shortly afterward a private Estovakivan jet landed bearing a man who not only looked like Estovakivan foreign affairs minister Pavel Kherkov, but who also received a full police escort into Isn Deslen. Paparazzi would have followed them to their destination, but were ordered to disperse upon reaching the inner circuit of the city - suspicious.

Estovakivan business leaders such as Irkana CEO Alexey Borisovich and Petrov Solar Cooperation CEO Natasha Petrov were sighted taking private limousines into the city, each escorted by a blacked out sedan. According to business calenders, Belfrasian Oil CEO Sebastian Melnerv was also in the city. Rumors continued to escalate when it was discovered that an entire floor of the King Anthony conference center was classified off-limits and, on wednesday, the Golden Palace started decorating it's exterior for what appeared to be a formal visitation. Thankfully, Thursday put those rumors to rest.

Deputy prime minister Dave Mennington released on Thursday morning that an Estovakivan delegation had been in the city to discuss trade relations between the two sovereign countries and had apparently not touched on the ongoing crisis between the Kingdom and the Papal Republic. While it may be a lie, it's one that was spoken before several good pieces of news hit the region. Not only would trade between the two countries be without import/export tariffs, but the Belfrasian Government would purchase approximately five percent (5%) of Irkana, Estovakiva's largest oil producer. The purchase, which is a landmark endeavor by the government, will apparently be managed by Belfrasian Oil (BOi), a government-run organization in charge of drilling operations off of Laesico's coast.

The announcement, which was made on the steps of the Golden Palace's front entrance, also includes trade ventures into the blooming Estovakivan IT and solar/hydroelectric markets. Petrov Solar Cooperation was authorized to begin analysis of several specific waterways within the Kingdom for candidates for hydroelectric dams, and several sites around the country were mentioned as candidates for solar farms. While it's believed that Irkana will also be allowed to set up shop within the country, it was not stated in the announcement.

It was not unnoticed that this particular announcement comes not long after the Evenguard announced it's departure from the RCO in order to maintain neutrality and economic ties to nations otherwise blacklisted by the organization. The move by the Evenguard was met by Rodarion shutting down business ties to the country and accusing the Central Defense Initiative (CDI) of bullying the Evenguard. Whether or not talks will now be held between the Belfrasian government and the Evenguard to finally fix relations after a long time of minimal contact economically - termed the 'Dark Time' - which began at the height of the Belfrasian Empire.

Mennington was keen to stress that this was in no way related to the ongoing crisis that is gripping the region. He stated that "This historic agreement will in no way affect or be affected by Romula or the RCO.", whilst also saying that "Estovakiva is a nation on the rise. It's oil is being noticed, it's industries being noticed. From technology in clean energy to simple commodities such as perfumes, liquors and clothing, we both have much to offer one another. With hope, this is the start of a warm and prosperous partnership and relationship between the companies and governments of our two fine countries."

The announcement was made shortly after a meeting between both delegations and His Royal Highness King James ended. The meeting, which was to formally sign the agreement between the two countries, was co-signed by the King who was also witness to the beginning of talks between Belfrasian Oil and Irkana for the purchase of 5% of it's shares. The purchase is expected to introduce Belfrasian influence to drilling sites in that oil and fuel companies would be able to purchase oil directly from Irkana for import. Pirate joes, a famous fish wholesaler, also announced that the agreement would enable them to purchase freshly-caught salmon in bulk from the country. Since the ban on Salmon fishing in the Belfrasian Gulf following the deaths of nearly ten Black-fin Whales in 2009, the country has been relying on small salmon farms around the country.

Whilst not an intended response, twitter began to trend "#BelfrasianGreen2014" as a response to Menningtons announcement, which stressed that clean energy was the future that the Conservative party would take should it be elected in next months elections. The statement appeared to be out of touch with official party politics, which stated that taxing vehicles entering Isn Deslen would hamper city growth despite the rising emissions within the city. The formal opposition, and the main opposition in the upcoming elections, the Unionist Party had been championing clean energy since 2012 and are expected to try to capitalize on the agreement.

The full release can be viewed here, live updates on announcements by both Belfrasian and Estovakivan businesses in relation to this will be posted on the same news story. #BelfrasianGreen2014

H.M.S Victoria Launched in Portsdown
"Most advanced warship float" says Belfrasian Admiralty
01/JULY/2014 | Samuel Ramsay (@TheRamsaySam) (BNN)
Image
The Victoria is due to become the flagship of the Belfrasian Navy after sea trials.

Portsdown, Belfras - The Navy's newest flagship slipped out of dry dock this week into the waters of the Belfrasian Gulf, marking a new era for the Belfrasian Navy's operational capabilities.

The H.M.S Victoria, the first of her class of Battlecruisers, is over 360 meters long and weighs a whopping 115,000 tonnes. The vessel, said by the Royal Naval Admiralty as the 'Most technologically advanced warship afloat', will be conducting a variety of at-sea trials ahead of assuming full responsibilities as the flagship of the Belfrasian Navy.

Carrying the most sophisticated radar system yet seen aboard a Belfrasian vessel, the Victoria was designed to be able to fight in all arenas of naval warfare with minimal support - Although she will be the center piece of battlegroups.

Coming out of dry dock at the Triumvirate Enterprises shipyards does not mean the vessel is ready to put to sea.

Triumvirate Enterprises, the government-run shipbuilding firm, will now begin installing the considerable arsenal of weapons, including twenty-four Close-In-Weapon-System mounts capable of independently targeting incoming targets to vastly improve ship survivability in a hostile environment.

The ship will also be equipped with the new BARBETTE mounts, a Anti-Ship Heavy Missile (ASHM) version of the lighter and smaller TRISTAN mount, allowing the Belfrasian Navy to outfit the vessel at pier side for whatever mission lies in store for her.

Finally the Victoria will be able to carry and launch four light and two medium-lift helicopters. The ship will also sport a well deck at the aft end to support operations from four Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIB).

Government in hypocritical scandal?
PM Davies praises Cyekish nuclear tests whilst condemning it in OPA resolution.
17/DEC/2013 | Albert Worthson (@Worthsonnews) (BNN)
Image
Pictured at the re-opening of an Deslen Provincial football team, Davies has faced more criticism.

Isn Deslen, Belfras -

In an official statement by the government, Prime Minister Ian Davies publicly praised the efforts of the CSU to safely test nuclear weapons. Stating that "The nuclear weapon is, regardless of it's destructive capabilities, a defensive weapon. Nobody would even dream of using one in an offensive role unless pushed to do it by an aggressor. The efforts by the Military Soviet to test these weapons in a safe environment with minimal risk to human life is praiseworthy and should be allowed to continue."

Despite the Prime Minister's words, the Kingdom of Belfras officially voted for an Organization of Pardesi Affairs (OPA) resolution effectively banning nuclear tests. The resolution is thought to be a indirect attack of the CSU in retaliation for the test of the atomic weapon. When asked to comment, Prime Minister Davies insisted that the two entities were separate and should not be confused. The Royal Attachment to the Belfrasian OPA delegation was quoted as saying that the request to vote for the resolution came "-directly from the Prime Minister's office."

The nuclear test has drawn anger from many nations, including those within the direct sphere of influence (SOI) of the CSU. Valinor immediately reacted with Prime Minister Niko Irenaeus banning all travel to the CSU and ordering that their 7th Battle Group, already on exercises, to move closer to the CSU for the remainder of the exercises. Prestonia has reacted in a similar fashion, with Foreign Ministry spokeman Henry Grant calling the test a "unnecessary and provocative" act which presents a "direct threat to the peace and security of the region"

A source within the Royal Naval Admiralty Board leaked that Prime Minister Davies has asked them for a readiness report for a force to possible visit the former Imperial colony of Anikatia in a show of solidarity. With one admiral commenting that "The seventh fleet is currently at the Altrenian colony of Nymphe and definitely in range." BNN has yet to confirm these reports.

A report released by the Military Soviet of the CSU confirmed that the Naga-1 was detonated in the Wai Lin Bay Testing Range at 11:32AM. The air-dropped weapon detonated at roughly 4KM above ocean level with an alleged yield of 50 Megatons (MT). The CSU confirmed that the fallout was being pushed further out to sea by winds from the Central Ocean.

Leader of the opposition, Theodore Lechance, was quick to jump on the issue. Calling the actions by the government "hypocritical" and insisting that this further highlighting "Davies' lack of both balls and a backbone." he further claimed that attempts by the Prime Minister to delay the elections were "petty, undemocratic, and very much illegal." and vowed that the people would not take kindly to another delay in elections.

General Elections were slayed for January 2014, but events have forced them to be rescheduled to August.

Pope Pius III dies
Millions around the world mourns as Pope Pius III dies of heart failure.
18/SEP/2014 | Albert Worthson (@Worthsonnews) (BNN)
Image
His Holiness had been ill for some time prior to his death.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - The Rodarion government has confirmed this morning that Pope Pius III died last night at 23:12 hrs surrounded by his closest friends. The Pope, who was 77, ruled over the Romulan church and Rodarion politics for nine years. The Cardinal Secretary of State, Remus Draganescu, personally led a mass at the Pope's death bed and placed his holiness's personal bible on is body - a final sign of respect and admiration of Pope Pius' selfless service to the Catholic church. It was confirmed by Vatican Spokesman Enrico Buschemi that the Pope received the Viaticum prior to his death, a rite for the sick and dying.

Officials broke the news of the Pope's death with a simple message: "Our Holy Father Pius III has passed away peacefully in his sleep, may God and the Virgin Mary greet their ever faithful servant with open arms." It was known publicly that the Pope had previously cancelled trip to Copsa Mica due to ill-health and was reportedly feeling "down-trodden" some weeks prior to his hospitalization.

Spokesman Buschemi further explained that his Holiness suffered heart and blood pressure issues for some time prior to his death. It was also confirmed the Pope's funeral is as yet unconfirmed, but is likely to occur before Monday.

Prime Minister Ian Davies ordered flags around the country to half-mast in respect for His Holiness and joined His Majesty King James in mourning. King James, who is adamantly Rodarion Catholic, had mass at 8:00 along with several members of state, his family, and the Bishop of Callis and Deslen. King James voiced his high opinion of Pope Pius III and hope that his passing might remind those around the region of each-others humanity. HM King James has confirmed that preparations are being made to fly to Romula for the funeral should he be formally invited. His spokesman, Ser Michael Pattson, spoke on his behalf:

"His Majesty King James is racked with grief, much like all other faithful Catholics. At the same time he wishes to express his hope that not only would he be allowed to attend Pope Pius the third's funeral, but that His Holiness's passing might remind us all that we are human. His Majesty wished a quotation of the bible. Thessalonians 4:14 - 'For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.' His Holiness Pope Pius the Third will be in His Majesties prayers."

The Prime Minister will be facing another tough challenge as a rescheduled General Election date looms. Davies has been a long-time opponent to the Rodarion Government and has, on multiple occasions, pinned Pope Pius III as the cause of the problems. This has put him at odds with HM King James, who was an adamant supporter of the Pope's policies and has sought closer relations to Rodarion. While it's highly doubtful that anybody in the Vatican would have forgotten the events of the past few years, it's widely believed that they, like a vast majority of Belfrasians, are eager to move forward.

Pope Pius III intervened in the 2013 Belfrasian-Rodar crisis and successfully brought it to a peaceful conclusion, making him popular within Belfras. Whilst the Rodarion Catholic Church has voiced support for dissidents within the Itailian Empire, they have remained cautiously silent over the riots within Nos Callis that erupted shortly after the Drakkar Massacre. The now infamous religious terrorist cell 'Christ's Chosen' has risen to prominence among Catholic religious terrorist cells within Callis Province after the riots and is responsible for several attacks on people of other religions. Imam Jermaine Fishbourne became the groups latest victim after being attacked with machetes outside of his Mosque in Nos Callis.

The Bishop of Callis was quoted two weeks ago as saying that Christ's First had "Critically and fatally misunderstood God's word. This 'crusade' they have undertaken is naught but an errant path that will lead them to damnation." Bishop Patrick Rosen replaced Bishop Volancis after the latter was voted out of his position after trying to detach the catholic church in Belfras from Romula. Bishop Rosen has risen to prominence within the last twelve years and has recently been elected as the Belfrasian candidate to become a Cardinal.

General Election looms as Prime Minister attends rally
PM Davies gives up his seat at the Pope's funeral to the Diocesan Bishop of Callis.

Opinion polls have buried the Conservatives, but have been shining for the Unitary Democrats candidate.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - Almost a year late, the General Elections are now finally around the corner. Prime Minister Davies has prioritized a late-stage surge for support and has given up his seat at the upcoming Pope's funeral in order to attend rallies and try and pull back the votes that have been straying from the Conservatives. His close rival - Theodore Lechance of the Unionists - has been doing likewise, for they both sense a new rival on the stage. Enter Aaron Sentar of the Unitary Democrats.
    * Ian Davies - Conservatives
    * Theodore Lechance - Unionist Party
    * Samantha Beckinhurst - Belfras United
    * Toby Marshall-Stewart - Deslen Reborn
    * Sebastian Lauer - New Tories
    * Aaron Sentar - Unitary Democrats Party
    For more, read here.

Aaron Sentar is a relatively new entrant to the political circuit in comparison to his main rivals for the hot chair. His earlier life was consumed by patriotic duty when he enlisted with the Army at eighteen. His career ended when, during operations overseas, he was wounded by enemy fire. His entry to the political arena was only heralded when his popularity as both a newspaper author, book author, and occasional television actor and icon. His most recent work was in the movie "The price of truth", a movie also starring Dame Helena Childstown which chronicles the rise of the Royal Intelligence Agency.

Sentar was speaking at a rally in Nos Callis where he insisted that he was serious. "When it comes to that fateful day where we choose our next leader, we must remember the important things. It is important to not fret and feel that we should be governed by an elite group. That government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. We are a nation that has a government. Not the other way around. This makes us a special nation - A precious, free nation where all are both welcome and safe. It is important to remember that we have prospered and thrived as a nation, and will continue to do so regardless of whom is elected."

He continued to say that "[The Unitary Democrats] represent the people to the best of their abilities. We whole-heartedly believe in the Belfrasian way of life. The Belfrasian Nobility. The Belfrasian soul. We have fought, negotiated, bled, and loved as no other country in Pardes. We may get things wrong at times, we may do things wrong at times. But if elected, I whole-heartedly vow to my fellow Belfrasians that my every effort will be for our continued prosperity and to bring the best of our nation to our neighbours and far-flung brethren."

Unionist Party leader and rival Theodore Lechance has spoken harshly on Sentar's chances, stating his surge in popularity as a "phase", further saying that: "When it comes for the people of this great nation to go to the voting stations, as is their birth right, they will vote right. They know that a vote for the Unionists is the only way we may be safe in this dangerous world of today. Any other vote is a failure to safeguard their nation. It's that simple."

Some have echoed Lechance's opinions, feeling that Sentar is "Just an actor" and wouldn't be trusted but Doctor Peter Ochenski praised Sentar's desire and that his beliefs were "Refreshing in today's society. His patriotism but nobility are just what we need."

With people going to the polls on monday, all eyes are on the candidates.

Nathaniel Ridgewood reported on this from Isn Deslen with the assistance of his junior correspondence team.

Portsdown ceremony for Pope's funeral
Priest of the Golden Palace led mourners from around the country.
21/SEP/2014 | Albert Worthson (@Worthsonnews) (BNN)
Image
The fireworks display underway to celebrate the life of Pope Pius III.

Portsdown, Belfras - Hundreds of thousands of mourners joined Father Edward Montohue as he led ceremonies at the same time as the official Papal funeral for Pope Pius III. In attendance was HRH Princess Catherine, Princess Elizabeth, and the Duchess of The Vale Patricia. Also in attendance was General Election candidate Aaron Sentar of the Unitary Democrats. It was reported that Prime Minister Ian Davies attended a service in Nos Kenwadi whilst Theodore Lechance of the Unionists avoided attending service altogether.

The service was well cheorographed in order to avoid the topics of the aggressive relations between Rodarion and Itailia - a crown ally. Father Montohue led a formal prayer after participating servicemen and women were marched in and led to formation by Chief of the Admiralty Nathan Fellbridge. Several hymns were also sung, predominantly in Rodarion although "Sun's Grace" was sung in it's native Belfrasian.

"Allow us to celebrate the life of Pope Pius the third." Princess Catherine said during her address to the gathered mass. "His life was one worth celebrating at it's finest root. Our King, my father, attends the funeral in Romula as I speak. We all wish him fortune in this venture and pray that he might pass on our best wishes for those whom were closest to His Holiness and extend our thanks for their tireless effort to safeguard our faith."

Following the address, Chief of the Admiralty Nathan Fellbridge unveiled what was a closely hidden surprise. At the time there were twenty-five merchant ships of various classes and purposes within the bay. Upon the order, each rose the Papal flag and sounded their horns for twenty-five seconds - One second per year of Pope Pius' reign. It certainly didn't go without note that the newest addition to the Royal Navy - The H.M.S Victoria - joined in with a twenty-meter Papal Flag from her central structure and joining in the horn segment.

After the sun had completely set a fireworks show, orchestrated by the local Church, began in order to fully celebrate Pope Pius the Third's life. Admiral Fellbridge confirmed that private services were held on naval bases around the country and abroad and that personnel were granted a ration of wine for the service. He also stated that whilst services were being conducted those "not of the Catholic faith were allowed to participate on their own volition or otherwise." saying that "His Holiness worked for his entire life to bring everybody closer together. On a day like today, it doesn't matter what name you call god - We're mourning a titan of a man."

In the capital, it was spotted that the national flag and royal coat of arms above the Golden Palace had lowered to half-mast. Isn Deslen Police reported that a small demonstration had been quelled for not having the appropriate licenses, with spokesmen reporting that "The demonstration was predominantly anti-Rodarion in nature. They failed to attain the proper credentials for such a demonstration and were detained until ceremonies around the country had finished."

Isn Deslen, Belfras - Voting stations have formally opened and voting for the next (or third-term) leader is underway. Incumbent Prime Minister Ian Davies is reported to have completed packing his families items away and is staying at his private Estate in Kunar after casting his ballot in Isn Deslen. When asked by reporters, Davies appeared cheerful and responded "Oh, that Davies guy seems a bit dodgy. I'll put my vote behind him, though!"
    Top Candidates
    * Ian Davies - Conservatives
    * Theodore Lechance - Unionist Party
    * Samantha Beckinhurst - Belfras United

    * Sebastian Lauer - New Tories
    * Aaron Sentar - Unitary Democrats Party
    For more, read here.
It's believed that Davies' cabinet faces a serious reshuffle if he is elected for a third term, with rumors surrounding a new Foreign Minister after an intense argument between the two several weeks ago. Under Ian Davies' two terms as Prime Minister, the country has seen it's military shrink as more focus is placed upon individual skillsets, improved equipment, and "Selective engagements that are ideal for the twenty-first century military." Davies himself boasts that having led the country for two terms, he believes that he knows what must be done in order to achieve a pro-Belfrasian victory with today's political climate.

"Under Conservative rule, we faced down the Rodarions when they tried to take our nautical border upon the Draganesti. Under a Conservative Government, we will do so again!" Davies vowed in last night's rally in Nos Kenwadi, after attending a service for the funeral of Pope Pius the Third. Davies had previously been a staunch opponent to Pope Pius, singularly blaming the Pope for both the cold relations between their two countries and the crisis that almost led to war only last year. It was revealed in March that the Draganesti Fleet had been fully mobilized and was preparing to sail for the disputed waters when the Rodarion Government relented, something Davies hails as a Conservative-borne victory.

"Under the Conservatives, we've shown the world that Belfras is a country not to be trifled with. We are fair, but we are just. We are the birth-place of modern Pardesi society, we are the pace-setter for progress." Davies also said during his rally, which at times sounded like a mixture of desperation and a direct attempt to rally the more radical voters who have yet to decide on a party. The Conservatives have been decisively mild-mannered during their two terms of leadership. While they've paid attention to events happening throughout the region, they've failed to respond to situations when they directly threaten either Belfrasian interest or Belfrasian lives.

The Conservatives have focused their campaigning on early rallies but left the main bulk of campaigning to local MP's to orchestrate in an effort to be more 'homey'. This failed to raise as much support as they imagined and left Ian Davies in a scramble for national support mere days prior to the polls opening.
    Ian Davies - Conservatives
    * Focusing the Military on more special operations
    * Cutting budget to divert to cultural programs
    * Tougher stance on illegal immigration
    * War on terrorism
    * A more united stance with Rodarion against Radical Catholics in Callis

With the polls being open for four hours, exit polls are indicating a potentially strong Unionist Party lead with several Kunar tribes urging it's citizens to vote for Theodore Lechance. Lechance, leader of the Unionists, is apparently in the capital of Isn Deslen with vehicles ready to move his furniture into the Prime Minister's Residence - A sure sign of his confidence. Theodore Lechance currently sits as the second largest party, but with exit polls indicating a potentially strong lead, he may well be right in his confidence. The Unionists are starch nationalists and vow to make the safety of the country their only priority.
    Theodore Lechance - Uionist Party
    * Larger budget for the Military
    * Bonuses to businesses for hiring Belfrasian-born workers
    * More aggressive stance against enemies of Belfras
    * Improved school programs to teach Belfrasian

Political pundits offer a varying mixture of responses when asked who might win the Election. While some favor the Conservatives and some the Unionists, others are favoring lesser known parties for big gains. Doctor Hans Prestonn of the Isn Deslen University noted that the Unitary Democrats were a new, up and coming party. He noted that despite only having been founded five years ago, they've gained a huge support base for what is described as the "Belfrasian spirit" of politics.

Aaron Sentar, the parties leader, said that while he hopes for good gains, he is skeptic on being able to gain the top seat. In a rally on Friday, he vowed to "Bring the best of what it means to be Belfrasian to the world. Our fairness, our nobility, our sense of justice and our ability to fight for what is right. People herald us as a free nation, a nation where man and woman are on equal footing and where all are welcome with open arms!" Most political pundits, however, are skeptic on the parties chances along with Sentar.

"With our best guesses, we figure around ten percent, at best." a doctor who did not want to be named said in confidence. "The Unionists have lost a lot of support, but might still have enough to get over that imaginary line for the top seat. They've got some strong policies and, frankly, I feel the country has had enough of sitting back and just watching events unfold around the world."

Sentar, being the only candidate with military experience, may be able to attain a large voting base from the Armed Forces. He vowed to focus on what was right for the Armed Forces, not what "politics thinks is right." insisting that anything worth standing up for was "always risky, always difficult, but always worth it."

Polls are expected to close at 22:00 with a result announced at 04:00 on Tuesday, the 23rd of September. With the election usually occurring the January, it's believed that future elections will now occur in September to be in line with this unusually late election. The Government confirmed that it's overseas territories are following the same time table, with their results expected two hours prior to the official announcement. Members of the Armed Forces are also attending votes, either from their stationed facilities or from their military, air force, or naval bases.

2014 Elections

Aaron Sentar vows to right the wrongs of his predecessors and make his country patriotic again.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - The country has decided. After the final vote was received, it was announced that Aaron Sentar and the Unitary Democrats Party had won by a landmark 57% of the national vote.

Ian Davies' late-campaign efforts to rally support appeared to have paid off, for the most part. Pre-rally figures showed the party on the verge of a landmark defeat, but with 18% of the vote they are now the formal opposition to the Unitary Democrats. He appeared relieved at maintaining a position in Parliament, having been overheard already admitting they had no chances of retaining power for a third term.

The Unionist Party, riding on a high since the 2008 Elections that placed them in formal opposition aimed to rally further support for the top seat. Theodore Lechance urged voters to consolidate behind their banner for their own safety, insisting that Rodarion and other nations abroad would take anything else as a signal to strike. The Unionist Party sung to glory in the previous elections when the New Tories, then the Opposition, did an "Abhorrent job" in Lechance's own words. It was widely acknowledged that the New Tories failed to challenge numerous decisions undertaken during Ian Davies' first term as Prime Minister and appeared to be in cooperation with him in numerous occasions, failing in their duty as the opposition. However, with only 13% of the vote, the Unionist Party has now fallen to third place. Now as the third largest party in the country, they only have the power of their still-elected ministers in the opposition, but don't have any real power anymore. Lechance has been unable to comment thus far.
    Aaron Sentar - Unitary Democrats
    * Focusing on overseas projection.
    * Focusing on humanitarian aid to countries in distress.
    * Improved education system and national health service.
    * Institution of a government-paid housing and work system for unemployed.
    * Tougher regulations on immigration, with new agency to enforce them.
    For more, read here.

Belfras United, then the third largest country with Samantha Beckinhurst as it's party leader, have now fallen to forth place after only gathering 8% of the vote. Their previous haul of five seats have now fallen to a solitary one, with Beckinhurst admitting they probably should've brought their message across clearer in the campaigning before the election.

The New Tories, however, have fallen far from grace. They led the country in the 1960s and were the formal opposition from 1980 to 2008. However with policies now far from public interest, Sebastian Lauer had to sit and watch as his party fell from a 2008 14% to a 2014 0.1% of the national vote. Statistically, this now means that the New Tories are now the fifty-eighth largest party in the country. Immediately ahead of them is the Kunar Liberation party, who reviewed 0.15% of the vote. Whilst Sebastian Lauer has yet to comment, it is believed that this may cause the New Tories to disband entirely in order to prevent further embarrassment.

So, what does this mean now?

In the run up to the vote being announced, everybody with a serious chance of winning the election would've packed everything. If someone is voted in, they have less than a day to move into the Prime Minister's residence whilst the leaving Prime Minister has only twelve hours to fully move out and into an estatuary half-way house that has been used for the role for nearly two hundred years. However, the newly elected Prime Minister himself gets to work immediately.

Aaron Sentar is scheduled to meet with HM King James in the morning to be formally sworn in as Prime Minister, first in a private session with only HM King James, a priest, his family, and select reporters on hand. The second and far more public swearing in will occur an hour later on the balcony of the Golden Palace. Isn Deslen Police have confirmed that King Aleksandr Avenue has already been cordoned off and dressed for the swearing in. With the 2008 swearing in costing the city nearly two million Belfries, eyes will be on the purses for the swearing in.

Prime Minister Sentar admitted early on in campaigning that his policies will take time to work properly and that people will "get frustrated, get angry, get bored and risk falling prey to alternatives." but urged them to stay the course, as he vowed to "make us believe in ourselves again." and to "restore what it means to be Belfrasian, to restore our pride and confidence within ourselves."

Nathaniel Ridgewood reported on this from Isn Deslen with the assistance of his junior correspondence team.

New Pontus Crisis

Prime Minister Sentar's popularity has only increased in his first week as Prime Minister.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - In what appeared to be both an urgent plea and a stark warning in one televised address, the newly minted Prime Minister Sentar appeared stoic as he appealed for calm in what he called a chaotic confrontation. Sentar has faced stark criticism from the formal opposition, who denounced the new Prime Minister's actions and words as warmongering and hypocritical.

During his address, he stated that he had sent Eagleland and Ankara a formal request to sign a cease fire agreement until non combatants were removed from the combat zone.

In his address, Prime Minister Sentar said that "Whilst the Kingdom of Belfras will not be deploying forces to the New Pontus operational area to combat either side, we will not stand idly by whilst citizens of this country are jeopardized by this conflict. To this end my fellow ministers and I have enacted a two phase plan to bring our countrymen and women home. We have sent a formal request to both the Orthodox Federation of the Eagleland and the Ankaran Union to establish a forty-eight hour cease fire in which time all efforts available will be put forward to humanitarian aid and evacuation. To supplement this and to facilitate safe and secure transport, a large task force has set sail from Laesico bound for New Pontus. This task force is headed by the HMS Victoria herself and has been augmented with six requisitioned cruise liners. These liners, along with certain room made aboard the naval vessels will hold these refugees and then return them to our sovereign territory."

Sentar continued his statement by pressing on the individual note of each Belfrasian in New Pontus. He stated: "I had the pleasure to speak to one of these displaced Belfrasians earlier today when he was able to acquire a signal on his cell phone. This man, a father of three, is staying in New Pontus on a business trip for a company in the vehicle industry. Where he was safe, harm, and content five weeks ago in his house in Nos Kenwadi, he now resides in a hole made from an exploded artillery round, fearing for his life. His family here in Belfras have only been able to speak with him once, but wish for me to state that they wish their father and husband a safe return. It is this, this simple but beautiful image of our national kin that we must do all we can possibly do to rescue this man. This man, and some twenty-three thousand eight hundred others live in terror in the face of this war.

But let us not forgot the lives of those who go to rescue them. Aboard one of the vessels being sent in the Task Force is an Third Rating. His father served aboard the HMS Broadsword at the same time as His Majesty King James in 1974. On that fateful day when Kunarii separatists attacked the Ronin-class Battleship as it sailed along the coast, Lieutenant Martin Donnell commanded the aft-most turret in engaging the enemy water-craft until the vessel was listing too heavily for the fight to continue. Lieutenant Donnell was granted the Victorian Cross for his most valiant efforts. When he evacuated the vessel, he took with him a small piece of fabric that had been stained with a mixture of motor oil, blood, and grease from the turret. Today, his son carries that exact same fabric aboard a Frederic Wellson class Destroyer whilst his girlfriend of three years stands guardian for their infant child. In war, we forget how human the soldiers that fight it are. For our own sakes, I give prayer that these brave men and women return home never having fired a shot and their mission completed.
"

Former PM Ian Davies, now the formal opposition, openly criticized the deployment of military forces, stating that "It's highly hypocritical and down-right ungentlemanly to deploy forces to a confrontation in another part of the world whilst appealing for the sides already involved to cease hostilities. They'll see this and only fight harder." Davies' words appeared to come before the formal announcement and didn't appear to be in full knowledge of the measures being taken.

Prime Minster Sentar is the first Prime Minister in nearly twenty years to have served in the military. His career with the First Infantry Division ended whilst on deployment overseas after being wounded by enemy fire whilst on patrol. In his own words, he described it: "It was a rookie mistake on my part. At the time I was a Second Lieutenant and it was my second tour and I knew what to do - I just happened to do the wrong thing at the wrong time." This was believed to have been one of Sentar's largest selling points in the election, with the Armed Forces almost entirely voting for the former military officer into office.

King James was key to emphasize cohesion and peace in speech.

Nos Kenwadi, Belfras - The mood was solemn in the capital of Kunarii on a chilling Sunday morning as King James made his first appearance following a near-miraculous recovery from Mountain Syndrome earlier this month. Accompanied by the Princess' Catherine and Elizabeth, he attended ceremonies remembering the 1974 attack on the H.M.S Broadsword off the coast of Kunarii Province in 1974, resulting in the death of 1,245 sailors, the sinking of the battleship, and the beginning of the Kunarii Rebellion.

"Forty years have passed since that fateful day." King James began his speech. He loomed solemn yet heroic in his naval uniform that was heavily decorated with the royal sash and awards he earned during his career. "For those who served aboard her, it is a day that shaped - or ended - their lives. It's a day that lives at the forefront of our memories as those screams and the roar of fire filled the air. Today, the Broadsword rests at the bottom of the Valearon Bay, safe from any further harm that may befoul her. Those who served aboard her spoke fondly of the ship, favoring her above others. I, too, speak fondly of my time aboard the Broadsword. It was a fine vessel that never steered us wrong, and during that dark day it gave us more than any ship could give. When she finally capsized and sank beneath the waves, we were left with an emptiness in our hearts where her great mass and 1,245 of our brothers resided before."

King James was serving aboard the Broadsword as a Lieutenant at the time of the attack. The attack, itself a planned assassination of then-Prince James by Kunarii Separatists, began with an artillery salvo from coastal fortifications on the Battleship as it and it's escorts lay in the Valearon Bay. King James's speech was made in front of 1,100 of the original 1,798 survivors of the battleship's attack. The 698 non attending had either died of their wounds, old age, or moved elsewhere in the country or world. former Ensign Edward Mayor commented in Yoshiwa that he wished to attend, calling King James a "Hero, if their ever could be one. What he did during the attack was selfless and courageous."

King James is perhaps best known in the attack for remaining behind after ordering the evacuation to man the number 4 turret on the vessels aft whilst the ship was listing heavily to it's port. He and five volunteers managed to successfully aim and fire a single barrel that destroyed the attacking artillery fortification. The ship, however, capsized as a result of the cannon fire. King James and the four volunteers managed to swim to the surface moments before the vessel fully flooded and sank to the bottom of the bay.

As King James' speech continued he said that " [The world] needs to remember the sacrifices it's soldiers makes on a daily basis. The scars of those who live on are both evident and covert - Hidden beneath our skin. Nobody asked to be attacked that day. Not one of the 1,245 sailors who died asked to die - But they would have gladly made that sacrifice if it did anything to save those of us who remained. That's the bond of brotherhood that exists in the Armed Forces. It is why, as Supreme Commander, I am the proud to call myself Belfrasian. As we move on as a nation, we need to remember ourselves from that day, today, and ever in the past. We have a rich history, we gave birth to the modern world and forged entire nations. As I sat aboard that lifeboat after the attack, shaking with coldness of the Victorian, I had but one thought: That this was not the end. It was merely the beginning."

Following his speech, he was asked by a BNN reporter about the marriage between Prince Gabriel and Princess Anne-Marie, to which he responded: "My grand-son is marrying a beautiful woman. I'm a proud grand-father. I'll be at the wedding and I'll make sure that it gets that Belfrasian touch. The wedding will be as much my grand-sons day as it will be my daughter, Saxon's day as well. As I was a proud father on her wedding, she will be a proud mother."

When asked by the reporter on his thoughts about Geanna leaving the RCO, King James laughed "Geanna is a country coming into it's own in earnest now. If the RCO can't accept that this nation has it's own views and interests, then my son-in-law made the correct action."

Bogoria tops agenda.

Isn Deslen, Belfras - The Prime Minister chaired a meeting with both cabinet members, members of the Military Advisory Council (MAC) and the Admiralty today to discuss the ongoing situation in Bogoria and the aftermath of Operation Poseidon's Wrath. The operation, which involved navies from all across the CDI, was a wide success in training the military organization in multiple techniques and tactics.

Following the meeting, the Prime Minister was asked by the press about Bogoria and accusations from Rodarion that the CDI is somehow involved with the violence.

"The situation in Bogoria is delicate, to put it lightly." PM Sentar answered. "Plans have been put in action to bring the civil war to a peaceful end, with Arthurista at it's head. We have reviewed these plans and come to the mutual understanding that the plans present the best of all parties interests forward. As such, the Central Defence Initiative's formal approach to the situation in Bogoria is to rally behind Arthurista and assist them where able.

The accusations made by the Rodarion Proconsul that the Central Defence Initiative are to blame are unsurprising as they are baseless. It's become a common sight for the Rodarions to try and label the CDI as this terrible monster whenever possible. I'm unsure whether the Proconsul is just getting bad intelligence, is trying to provoke a response, or is showing signs of mental illness. If it's the latter, I hope him a quick and speedy recovery. The Belfrasian government is no longer one to idly stand by whilst we are threatened, intimidated, and insulted. If the Rodarions really wish to continue insulting and giving underlined threats, then it shows them as bullies. As bullies only respond to strength, we will be prepared to be much stronger. We have shown an incredible amount of restraint when it comes to Rodarion and it's RCO comrades, a restraint that's run its course. With the new year ahead of us, we need to focus on the future and not allow us to be cowled by the RCO's fantasies."

Admiral Tobias Erwood, Chief of the Reserve, was available to take questions in regards to the recent CDI exercises off of the Talibastain coast.

"The HMS King Alexandros and it's escorts took part in the exercises." Admiral Erwood confirmed to reporters. "Despite the rumors, the HMS Victoria and Kunar were not involved. The Victoria is still in Portsdown undergoing repairs after storm damage to it's experimental defence system. The exercise highlighted several issues with current strategies in the modern naval arena and how to remedy them. We have been in close contact with our brothers-in-arms across the Central Defence Initiative before, during, and after these exercises. We learned a lot and, situations permitting, will conduct this exercise more often in future."

When asked about possible outrage by the RCO or other detractors of the CDI, Admiral Erwood responded saying:

"We considered those situations when we planned the exercises. The exercises were held away from RCO areas of operation and the RCO themselves conducted their winter exercises in early October, called the 'Central Oceanic Peace Wargames'. The exercises, in which the Belfrasian Armed Forces assisted in allowing the Estovakivan Air Force to refuel at Laesico, was conducted with no official CDI protest. We expected no protests from the RCO as common courtesy as far as these situations are concerned."

Nathaniel Ridgewood reported on this with the assistance of his junior correspondence team.

RIM conducts raids in Callis province

Nos Callis, Belfras - In a shocking turn of events, the Monday morning many would expect to be dull became a hot-bed for action throughout the Callis Province. Over two hundred members of law enforcement took part in a pre-dawn raid to capture eighty-five members of the Soldiers of Romula, a terror group with no obvious ties to the Romulan government.

The operation, which saw the two-hundred officers take part in eight separate raids, lasted just over three hours but resulted in one raid turning into a full-blown hostage situation. The situation was successfully concluded with no bloodshed four hours after the situation began. The seven hour operation was successfully concluded with no deaths but with three injuries after certain suspects opened fire on officers. The suspects were apparently treated on scene and are being given further treatment at a secure facility.

Local twitter feeds went crazy as people reported hearing low-flying helicopters, gunshots, loud explosions, and a flurry of vehicles and police sirens as the operation began in the early hours of Monday morning. During the hostage situation, in which nobody was harmed, BNN reporters were able to hear the gunmen inside the residence shouting religious slogans from the window. It was reported at the time that the individuals were Rodarion in ethnicity, but it is now confirmed that they are native Callistani in origin.

A press conference was held roughly two hours after the operation concluded, headed by Agent Montgomery Seymour, the acting director of the Royal Investigation Ministry in Callis.

"The operation conducted today was held under the umbrella of Operation Penance, which was established in 2013 to investigate and prosecute members who participated in or organized the Nos Callis riots. During the initial course of the investigation we were able to establish ties between more than the original four we were initially following up on. We managed to intercept and question an individual who was a part of this group that called themselves the 'Soldiers of Romula'. From information we received then and further on into the operation we concluded that this was a terrorist organization working alone with a single purpose. A purpose to cause civil unrest within the province of Callis until either situations occurs: Callis secedes from the Kingdom to join the Papal Republic, the Army is utilized and Rodarion intervenes, or a civil war topples the government for one more peaceful with Rodarion."

"It's important to emphasize that at no point during this operation did we uncover any evidence of any connection between this organization and anyone within the Papal Republic. The closest any of our investigative leads came to was an attempt at contact being made with a Rodarion-born arms dealer living within our borders, who was also arrested in today's operation. The individual, whilst born in the Papacy, was raised within our borders and is a holder of a Kings Passport. It's our belief that this was a terror group organized and built to act on the Papacy's behalf with no authorization or knowledge from anybody within the Papacy."

"At the time the take-down was commenced, five individuals of this cell were mobile. As the rest had converged onto a half-dozen areas in large groups, we decided that this was the best time to conduct the operation. The five individuals managed to elude the initial stop and disembarked into a property occupied by a young couple. A hostage situation began thereafter and was concluded four hours later when the individuals gave themselves up to authorities before entry could be made. The young couple, who will not be identified, are okay and were released from medical custody after being checked out."

"In truth, we hadn't expected the number to be so high when we began. Initially we were tracking three individuals, who in turn led us to this larger group. The decision to arrest the suspects today was made after information came to light of a potential terrorist attack being planned by this cell. Approximately five suicide vests were uncovered in one of the locations along with a number of illicit firearms and narcotics. We believe that the terror group was running a narcotics ring to fund their operations, and were about to make a terror attack to correspond with Monday morning traffic into the city of Nos Callis herself."

A reporter from the Callis Gazelle asked the agent about reports of a gunfight during one of the raids, in which ambulances were called to the scene but the injured were taken away by secure, armoured ambulances.

"During the raid on what we've dubbed 'Site Echo', three suspects wielding automatic firearms opened fire on a police vehicle approaching the scene. Members of the Direct Intervention Unit managed to flank the suspects and neutralized them with non-lethal fire. They were cleared by on-scene paramedics and taken to the same secure center to be treated by members of His Majesties Royal Medical Corps for anonymity before we can make their identities known. This was a terror attack meant to create as much bloodshed and carnage as possible. A plot of madmen keen on instilling chaos and sowing civil disorder amongst the deaths they would've reaped. Families would have lost loved ones, parents would've been denied seeing their children grow, all because of this mad plot."

Agent Seymour was asked about the eighy-five detainees from the investigation and their likely future.

"All eighty-five are being held in a secure, classified facility at this time. They're going to be debriefed and questioned for further information whilst we sort through uncovered items on all properties raided. At this moment in time they're being held on suspicion of organizing a terrorist attack and participating in the Nos Callis riots. The five individuals involved in the hostage situation are being charged with possession of illegal firearms, taking a person against their will, one count of battery, and one count of sexual harassment through non-contact means. These individuals will be transferred to a separate detention center should the link between them and this group be disproved for trial on those specific charges."

The charges are severe for all involved. Terror charges alone carry either life imprisonment or execution depending on the severity - and with suicide vests involved, it is likely that those convicted will be put to death. The five who took the hostage also face a harsh future. Should they be acquitted of terror charges, they could be facing up to twenty-five years each for their actions that led to the hostage situation.

We managed to speak to Father Abraham Goodchild, a member of the Callis clergy.

"The usage of a suicide vest alone is against God's will. Regardless of anyone it kills or the martyrdom it may cause, it is an act of suicide, a grave sin. They peddle narcotics, the devil's toy. These are acts of people not working hand-in-hand with the Papal Republic, I can assure you. God's will never dictates such grotesque actions, and God loves us all equally. In his infinite wisdom, he would never call upon a nation to tear itself apart to benefit another. We are all in His country, this great world."

Eduard Cantauf reported on this with the assistance of his junior correspondence team and the assistance of the Nos Callis Police Department, the Royal Investigation Ministry, and the Callis Provincial Sheriffs Department.
