A large contingent of the Arthuristan People's Air Force will be deployed to the Hardenburghian territory of New Caledon within 24 hours to participate in a previously unannounced joint exercise, the Ministry of Defence spokesperson said in a press conference today.
According to the surprise statement, the forces dispatched will include the 3rd Strategic Bomber Group, which has 64 Arthuristan Dynamics Blizzards within its order of battle. The model, essentially Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjacks which have undergone a deep upgrade program in the early 2000s, is one of the largest supersonic bombers in the world. Joining them is the 7th Fighter Group with a similar number of Arthuristan Dynamics Cyclones, a 4th generation fighter, albeit modernised and still very capable against most threats.
While the terse statement did not give a detailed explanation of the rationale for the sudden deployment, most observers agree that the move was intended to demonstrate Arthurista's resolve in defending its new ally against external intervention, just as Hardenburgh attempts to resolve its territorial dispute with Hippostania.
"I think the decision to send the fleet was a message enough," said a source within MINDEF who wished to remain unnamed, "this is just to make sure that they take the hint."
