I have honestly never been attacked enough to even warrant a response. It's usually implied like "ru stupid". Though the thing that hurt my feelings the most (yes, I'm a delicate flower) is that time I was suddenly banned for no reason.

I was accused of hating life and seeking immoral improvements recently on account of being transhumanist. But I don't think those are ad hominems... are they?

Don't think I've gotten any ad hominems yet. Some people have attacked my beliefs fairly viciously (and yeah it gets to me at times, but there's the whole "leave your feelings at home" thing so... ), but not me personally. Guess I can't relate on this one, sorry.

Regarding the reasoning behind ad hominems? I find myself in agreement, I think. Some people seem to find anonymity to be a mask that gives them free reign to say or do whatever they like without fear of retaliation. I don't understand it, myself, since at the end of the day... you still have to live with yourself and the knowledge of what you've done or said. My conscience won't let me do such a thing - I'm constantly checking and re-checking what I type to make sure I don't come across as an ass or uninformed, or apologising for a perceived slight against someone, or retracting/amending a statement after being presented with new information or a new view.
