History
Restored Trans Polar Airlines Trimotor
As technology progressed in aviation, the fleet also changed with the introduction of the Douglas DC3. Powered by two 14 cylinder radial engines, the DC3 came with retractable undercarriage, with the wider cabin giving more room for passengers. The DC3 proved to be a popular aircraft with crews and passengers alike as it was significantly more reliable and comfortable than the Trimotor. Among the DC3 aircraft were several C47 war surplus aircraft, these featured a reinforced floor and wider doors, making them excellent for resupplying outlying areas that had no road access, the side doors of the C47 meant that a light utlilty vehicle could be loaded.
All but one Trimotor was phased out between 1938 and 1947, the remaining Trimotor put to storage whilst the DC3 aircraft were becoming the backbone of the Transpolar fleet after 1945 with war surplus coming onto the market. By 1948, Trans Polar had over 300 such aircraft operating various routes though change was in the air as the jet engine had started to make its presence known and it was only a matter of time before that technology filtered down into Civilian aviation. Though the Tri Motor and DC3 are not used by Trans Polar any more, one example of each aircraft remain on public in an air conditioned hangar at Peace Valley along side an example of the De Haviland Comet and a Boeing 707 at the "Flying through time" display at Hangar 6 of Peace Valley Airport, whilst another example of the TriMotor and DC3 remain in airworthy condition, flying occasionally at airshows.
By 1952, Trans Polar Airlines had started to operate the worlds first jet airliner the Dehaviland Comet, this aircraft had a trouble history with issues of metal fatigue bringing a few examples down before the type underwent a major modification program. The Dehaviland Comet, despite its initial shortcomings was a popular aircraft and loved by its crews. After tests revealed the problem that had caused the crashes of the De Haviland Comet, changes were made to its design, as well as lengthening the fuselage to form the Comet 2 with further stretches made by De Haviland until the Comet 4 was unveiled of which Trans Polar purchased 20 units. This smooth design was again popular with the passengers and crew who had the chance to fly in the Comet. As the Comet was ideal for short haul routes it became a regular visitor to Neu Engollon and Nouvel Ecosse, a route that this type still serves with destinction.
In 2012 Trans Polar Airlines signed up to become part of the Clear skies airline alliance, offering customers and passengers more flexibility, more destinations and the ability to gate share, this scheme as proven popular with passengers as Trans Polar passengers can check in at any airport where Clear Skies has a presence, even though Trans Polar Airlines may not.
Fleet list
Trans Polar Airlines has a fairly standardised fleet, geared to long and medium haul operations, due to the inherenct costs involved, Trans Polar has, like many airlines, not adopted supersonic services, choosing instead to remain subsonic.
De Haviland Comet 4
De Haviland Comet 4 16 units
The Comet 4 fleet are some of the oldest aircraft in the Trans Polar fleet, used on short haul and medium haul flights up to 5,000km that have a low passenger density, however since their introduction in the 1950s, these aircraft have been steadily upgraded with the whole fleet getting overhauled every 5 years.
Seating: 10 first class
Seating : 60 coach class
Range: 5,190km
Cruising speed: 840km/h
With the advent of the MD11, the Comet 4 interiors were refitted to feature in-flight video, though unlike the larger aircraft, the Comet 4 fleet has no underfloor baggage space, instead all bagage goes into a hold at the rear of the fuselage.
Genesis GA6
Genesis GA6
Orders beginning in 2012 for 67 units of the narrow body Genesis GA6 Majestic, these aircraft are produced close to the home base of Trans Polar Airines at Peace Valley and are packed with a whole host of electronic features to make flying safer and the pilots job easier.
Seating:
12 persons in first class
231 persons in coach class
Performance of these aircraft is also excellent, with a cruising speed of 850km/h and a range of just over 18,000kms means these aircraft are also ideal for some of the lower density, longer distance routes operated by Trans Polar Airlines.
MD DC10-30
DC-10 - 20 units
Working along side the GA6 is the Mc.Donnell Douglas DC10-30, this 3 engined wide body aircraft was originally built in 1970, with production lasting until 1988 with the introduction of the MD11, a slightly stretched version of the DC10. Seating 285 in a two-class configuration. The performance of the DC10 is also seen as excellent, the wide body jet having a cruising speed of 900km/h and a range of 10,622km. The DC10 fleet containes some of the oldest aircraft within the Trans Polar Airlines fleet still in revenue earning operations. These aircraft however are still maintained to the highest of standards with each aircraft going through an inspection every 6 months to ensure they are kept to the highest standard.
Mc. Donnell Douglas MD11
Following on from the DC10 comes the MD11, visually very similar to the DC10, the MD11 gains a digital cockpit over the analogue cockpit in the DC10, though the most notable differences are the longer fuselage and the winglets. Cruising speed is slightly lower than the DC10 at 876 km/h though range has been increased to 13,410 km due to the use of more efficient engines and enlarged fuel capacity
Trans Polar MD11 aircraft seat 323 in a 2-class layout with each seat having its own entertanment sstem. In 2010 these aircraft went through a major mid-life upgrade, with first class seats being replaced with luxury seating "pods" giving first class passengers the option of total privacy.
With the MD11 now out of production by its manufacturer, Mc.Donnell Douglas, (later Boeing).
Genesis GA11
awaiting delivery of 78 units to complete order
Built as a follow on from the MD11, the Genesis GA11 combines the attibutes bestowed of the MD11, with its excellent long range capability and comfort, to the digital flight technology of the GA6 Magestic, including side-stick control. These aircraft also have high tech wing surfaces that have in-built photo voltaic cells to power the onboard systems and charge the batteries whilst shut down on the tarmac, allowing the air conditioning to be run without the need to have the APU running. Unlike the MD11, the GA11 also has a carbon composite skin similar to the Dreamliner and GA6 Majestic and some RMA aircraft.
Deliveries of this type are expected to start around December 2013/January 2014, these will be put to use on the long haul routes operated by Trans Polar, such as the transatlantic flights and trans pacific flights due to their longer range than the MD11 type.
On order: 4 Monteluci A360
Trans Polar is awaiting the delivery of 4 All new A360 airliners, these advanced twin engined airliners, made by Monteluci from Van Luxemburg will be put to use over Astyrian routes, depending on how passengers react to these aircraft, more aircraft of this type may be ordered.

The Future
For the future, Trans Polar is looking to take on small regional jets to replace all but two of the Comet airliners, as well as GA72 Mystic II aircraft, these will take over from the DC10 fleet, though the MD-11 aircraft will remain in service for many more years, though looking to the past, there are plans to expand the Flying Through Time museum at Peace Vally with the maintainance as aircraft retire. The display also has a mock up of how the terminal at Peace Valley used to look in the 1950s.
Trans Polar Airlines First Class seats are as good as they get, wide seats with the ability to lie flat, first class travel has never been so good. First class seats have enough legroom for the longest legged passenger, with the seats fully adjustable with the ability to be height adjusted as well for maximum comfort so after that fraught business meeting in another country and you just want to chill out on the flight back home, well you can. a simple press of a button and your seat will automatically recline, allowing you to forget about the world below and drift soundly off to sleep letting US take care OF YOU.
Each first class seat has its own video screen offering over 150 different channels, ranging from news to movies to documentaries, or if you simply want to watch the world drift by below you, well you can watch that channel too as our fleet of MD11 and GA6 aircraft have downward facing video cameras that allow you to see the world below you. Selectable cameras in the nose and underneath the aircraft allow you to either look straight down or ahead.
Communications in First class is available, just like coach class however first class passengers can use the in-flight phones free of charge, allowing long distance conference calls to be carried out if you wish, or simply talk to a loved one as you cruise at 35,000ft.
Trans Polar preffers not to use the term second class or economy class, instead its Coach class, for "economy class" brings up images of low quality service, cramped seats and genrally does not give the image that a modern airline wishes to have. Our Coach class seats are as wide as business class seats were just a few years ago, giving passengers plenty of comfort on long 9 hour flights.
Seats in coach class have in built video systems that like in First class have over 150 different channels, with each screen adjustable to cater for the recline angle of the seat that supposts it. Flying coach class with Trans Polar is also affordable, a return ticket between Aurora Confederacy and a destination over 24 hours away will cost $800 including airport taxes.
Enjoy your meal
There was once a time when airline food was a joke, famed for its bland appearance and flat taste, well not any more, Trans Polar offers a full range of domestic and international dishes to cater for all tastes and cultures, with all meat being certified Halal and Kosher. Passengers flying with Trans Polar Airlines have the opportunity to relax in one of two lounges, yes there is one lounge for first class travellers, whilst coach class get to relax in their own lounge too when departing from Peace Valley International Airport. Here Passengers can watch the world go by and planes come in and go out whilst they wait for their flight to where they are flying too.
Peace Valley's lounge is fully climate controlled for absolute comfort during the polar summer or the long polar nights, whilst soft tranquil music is piped through the PA system to make you feel calm and relaxed before boarding.
