By that point, I'm sure Charlie would be able to post away for a few months if he so wished?

Just thinking out loud really, that said I really do need to finish the Sabres In The Night series.

Me too, I've mentioned the idea (sort of) to Tiger and he seems ok with it. Obviously, we'd need his blessing.

Also, the video you posted is incredible.

It is a good idea, however, you do also have the option of handling it actually at Tempsford. Remember, during the interval between Falkland and Guillotine, Page essentially got permission to have a few training aircraft around - Blenheims, Wellingtons, and the like, which I imagine could continue to procuring Stirlings and Halifaxes.
Just an idea.

That would be a good idea, saves me sending Stanford to a Bomber Command training unit for a bit. Still, we'd need some sort of instructor I imagine.

It's gonna be a bit hard for Talbot to make that twin-engine training session, that's all I can say without spoiling the plot...

You could feel free to RP some sort of gruff bomber training crew sent over to help us out.

I don't think Michael would be good with two engined planes.

I'm sticking with single engined ones, thanks.

It's one of the main reasons why me and the 107ths F-16 and I got along so well.
Me and the old girl would fly alone along Michigans western coast. Once I flew over my home town. Ah memories.

Thanks, I think I'll do that.

My plan would be to qualify on Wellingtons, later Lancasters. Obviously, my main commitment would be to Excalibur but I would like to do a long One Shot, in between operations, dealing with at least one trip over the Ruhr Valley. Stanford is not a fan of Germans, so area bombing them would probably be right up his street.

And yeah, my hands are a bit full with the last essay I'll have to do for a while (or at least a few days).

Stanford's Story Part IV

Postby Goram » Mon May 27, 2013 7:02 pm

June 29th 1940

The long summer of 1940 rolled onwards. As May turned into June, the evacuation of 300,000 British soldiers and an assortment of Frenchmen from Dunkirk was completed. During this time, Stanford and 41 Squadron had flown almost daily in support of the operation. Despite the hours they'd put in, the fighting had been sparse due to bad weather keeping large Luftwaffe operations grounded. This had meant that raids had been relatively light, compared to what was to follow, though the number of German aircraft claimed destroyed by Fighter Command would tell rather different story. Stanford himself had opened quite an impressive tally, racking up four kills over the nine days of the evacuation, including a solitary victory over a Bf.109E on June 2nd. The pilot of the German fighter had been a novice and Stanford had shown him no mercy. The gun camera footage had shown that Stanford's singular burst had obliterated the Messerschmitt's boxy cockpit. As his kills began to pile up, Douglas began to build a reputation as an unequalled aerial marksman but with this distinction he became renown as a cold blooded killer.

France itself had finally capitulated on the 22nd, leaving Britain to stare down Germany as they held all of western Europe an the iron grip. Churchill had proclaimed that the Battle of France was over and that the Battle of Britain was about to begin. He offered fighting words, telling the people of Britain to brace themselves to their duties and that this would be the Empire's finest hour. However, his words were just that. The BEF had left its weapons in France and many felt that the Germans could waltz in whenever they liked, however no one wanted to simply roll over and die without giving the Huns as good as it got. The coming battle though, did not come. The Luftwaffe confined itself to attacking convoys in the channel and for mainland fighter stations, such as Hornchurch, that meant that the days were long and uninteresting. The pilots sat in the summer sun, next to the operations hut and waited for something - anything - to happen. The delay in German action meant that the pilots spent more and more time socialising. The atmosphere was generally hospitable but ever since the incident with the Stuka, the unit had treated Douglas with an air of caution. Nobody was quite sure what was going on in his mind and because of that, the stance that 41 Squadron's pilots took towards the Pilot Officer ranged from mistrusting to downright hostile. To combat this, Stanford made as many excuses as he could get away with in order to be in the air and looking for trouble. Solo flights out over the channel, looking for Jerry, was strictly forbidden as aircraft and particularly aircrew were far too precious to waste. However, many pilots got around this by making excuses, such as training flights or testing faulty equipment. Stanford had, over the past two weeks, made these so called test flights regularly. In truth, everyone knew what he was up to but everyone was glad to be rid of the insular pilot for a few hours at least. One day, having landed the previous day with a rudder shot full of cannon holes, he pushed it slightly too far.

Stanford, clad in flying gear and Mae West, stepped into the operations hut to find it deserted except for the Squadron Leader who was sat wistfully by the phone waiting for something to happen. Stanford coughed slightly and began speaking

"I'd like permission for a tes-"

Jesus Christ Douglas, another one? What excuse could you possibly have now? Undercarriage? Radio? What? You do know what you're doing is against Stuffy's orders, don't you?

"Radio, sir"

The Squadron Leader slowly stood up and walked over to him. The officer spoke in a lowered tone;

Now look here Pilot Officer, I've had just about enough of you. I could have you court martialled for your little escapades of the last couple of weeks. We all know your brother was killed and we all know you wanted to kill every Hun in Germany but you will not defy standing orders to do it. I've half a mind to transfer you here and now but unfortunately for us you're too bloody good a pilot and I can't tell group I want you gone because we don't like you...Let me make this very clear, I will make no mention of this to group, but if you disobey orders or cross me one more time, I'll have you broken to AC1 and cleaning out the latrines faster than you can light that pipe of yours. Do I make myself completely clear?

"Crystal, sir"

Dietrichs deleted affair: part 4

Postby The balkens » Mon May 27, 2013 9:17 pm

October 19th 1940. Berlin-Germany
"Ah, lieutenant Zimmermann. We have heard much about you."
A colonel with an SS badge, complete with a totenkopf, shook dietrich's hand.
Stupid prick. dietrich thoughts were bitter.
"it's an honor mein Herr. I am here for the fatherland and willing to take the fight to the British."
The colonel smiled and lead him through headquarters. Oddly enough, it was like the interior of an old castle in prussia that Dietrich used to read about.
"I assume that the frauliens here have treated you well?"
The colonel smiled slyly.
"sorry mein herr. I am currently seeing a women in Paris."
"oh? Trying out the French pastry?"
Dietrich was annoyed by this idiot already.
"yes sir."

"heil Hitler!"
The men gave a salute and they were lead into a briefing room.
"you are going in with Von sporrenbergs squadron. He is expecting you."
Hopfully he is not as much as a fanatic than this moron.
"of course."
Dietrich could not have been more wrong...

Working on a new entry for Forging the Sword that should be up tomorrow, in addition to no less than two new one-shot series - one for Noble, and one for Page, which will be commenced after the conclusion of this operation.
God, I can't wait for my classes to be over so I can do this shit full-time. Seriously, writing for two english classes and a poli-sci drains me so much it isn't even funny.
