Yet again Tyneala will send the same four sides to the World Club Handball Championship in what has to be one of the world's most consistent sports leagues. The entrenchment of not just the same top four but of Hilshore's place as perennial champions has reached the stage where bookmakers are refusing to even offer any odds on the NTHL. Porthmageed Celtic at least made the race for fourth competitive in finishing just a point behind Ballyfeeaknock Capitals, but them aside the rest of the league finished so far behind that they might as well be in a different league entirely. This season though does however seem to have woken up the national handball authorities that something needs to be done. Their action so far has consisted of announcing plans to embark on an expansion program that they insist will increase competitiveness. Quite how a bunch of new teams will prove to be anything other than extra whipping boys for the Big Four no one has yet to explain.
