AGILANG DILAW PREPARES FOR WORLD CUP WITH MARKET CUP APPEARANCE

The FA Sangti has announced its 23-man lineup for the Market Cup, a tournament that will serve as the warm-up for the Agilang Dilaw in the upcoming World Cup 65 and Baptism of Fire 52. The squad will be composed of experienced footballers in Sangti, as the younger ones will be playing in the Di Bradini Cup playing for Sangti U21 and other squad members are playing for the Swamp Soccer team in the Swamp Soccer World Cup.

The FA Sangti delivered the message via their website.

This will be the squad that will be participating in the Market Cup:

The squad is a slightfy defensive one, as shown by the -0.92 style modifier. The team is generally slow and should play defensively, the squad also has a contain strategy, but is also capable of counter-attacking. Sangti may have the oldest squad in this tournament, as the young guns are participating in the Di Bradini Cup and some are participating in the Swamp Soccer World Cup. Sangti made last minute replacements with those of the squads from the Swamp Soccer World Cup and the Di Bradini Cup.

NEW SIDEBURN
Preferred Formation:
4-4-2 diamond
Style Modifier: 0
Playstyle: Low on possession, but high on pressure, with fast play and short passing. Generally reliant on a stereotypical 'big guy/fast guy' strike partnership. Very physical, quite pacy.
Kit Supplier: Kirola
Nickname: The Cormorants

New Sideburn’s national side have made their mark on the national scene and are feeling pretty bloody smug about it. Having shoved aside all competitors in their bloodthirsty conquest of the 51st Baptism of Fire, they proceeded to impress at the World Cup Qualifiers (with a respectable nine wins) before making it to the second round in the Cup of Harmony. They strut around like the coolest cats on the block, and they feel they’ve earned that right. Enigmatic bastard manager Gethin Ramsey has stuck to the same core of the squad as won him so much acclaim last time. New Sideburn’s training regimen follows a strict diet of beer and bar snacks, with the lads reluctant to partake in and indeed more than a little suspicious of ‘sports science’. New Sideburn is generally accompanied by its … rigorous support. They are loud and like to start fights, but are generally pretty matey when you get to know them.

Honours
Champions of the 51st Baptism of Fire.

Gethin RAMSEY - 54
Ramsey terrified strikers all over the country as a merciless midfield enforcer playing for the Chenoworth Rovers, playing that role from 19 to 37, before going on to terrify his own team managing them. Four years of shouting death threats later, the Rovers had been hauled out of the First Division and into safety in the Premiership. A year later, he was managing the national side, traditionally seen as a thankless task beating up local Serenes neighbours and trying to upgrade perilously close 4-0 wins into merely underwhelming 9-0 ones. Eleven years in, and he’d spent enough time demanding reform that the NSFA finally relented, and joined the WCC to compete on the global level. Charismatic, determined and utterly ruthless, loved by fans and... viewed with a certain fondness by the players, Ramsey’s successes continued, and he has no intention of stopping here.
1 - Portia THRIFT - 33 - Crisisbless
Some say Thrift is a specialist at saving penalties, but most tend to agree that Thrift is a specialist at saving everything. While not the tallest at 180 cm, making corners a relative weak point, she nonetheless combines agility, positioning and intellect. She has proven... somewhat inconsistent for the national team, her best run of form happening around the ‘minor blip’ of a 7-0 defeat, but she’s still proven herself to be the best around.

12 - James TURNSCREW - 31 - AFC Treason
A true defensive general who almost never concedes to a free kick, though his towering frame certainly helps that. James Turnscrew has won a title for his club, and his only weakness appears to be his absurd moustacheless chinstrap beard.

20 - Kurtis FITZMARTEN - 26 - Sabrefell Athletic
Another former title-winner, Fitzmarten has been pretty chipper about his assignment as third choice goalkeeper in five straight tournaments. “I’m really just thrilled to be here at all,” he admits. He definitely has what it takes, though, and despite a somewhat ropey season with Athletic in 329 he’s never far from his ridiculously agile best.
2 - Anna SHRIKE - 25 - Crisisbless
Right Wingback

Anna Shrike is the redemption story of last cycle’s World Cup Qualifiers. A chunky, entirely one-footed, slightly absent-minded wingback, she spent the first half of the qualifiers being, in the words of most fans, ‘fat and crap’. And yet her remarkable comeback finds her in form that has stayed with her; finally, she’s blossoming into a complete player who is actually capable of going back to defend, and in her current form she’ll threaten any defence and thwart any attack.

3 - Lukas STRONGNESSE (c) - 37 - Sabrefell Athletic
Centre-back

Strongnesse is the reliable, mild-mannered, honourable veteran captain of club and country, cool-headed penalty taker with four titles to his name and a nearly spotless disciplinary record and I say nearly spotless because Lukas Strongnesse once tried to mutilate the Prince of Saintland because he found his political views objectionable. New Sideburn, in the full spirit of sportsmanship, turned this into an annual trophy to contest between the sides. While his body has let him down more than once, his mind (almost) never fails, and he is still the best man in defence they have.

4 - Cathy STOKES - 22 - AFC Treason
Left-back

Cathy Stokes is only getting better and better with time. A highly rated prospect whose ability appears to be bearing out, highly intelligent and highly mobile, and though she lacks strength her persistence and willpower are commendable. She’s almost like a terrier, relentlessly hounding anyone who tries to pass her by.

5 - Rook HARM - 34 - Crisisbless
Centre-back

Every team needs someone capable of utterly pulverising the opposition’s most fancy, prone-to-diving, overpaid wanker, and willing to give him a good kicking when the ref’s looking the other way. Rook Harm is that man. A latecomer to the sport, Rook spent his late teenage years moonlighting as a bouncer as he went through the academy, and rather admirably married his experiences in both during his playing years. Oh, and don’t mistake his straightforward nature for stupidity. He’s an excellent defender with a remarkable instinct, and nobody knows better than him how to make a fair, or at least fair-looking challenge.

13 - Leila CORVETTE - 23 - Sabrefell Moths
Left Wingback

Leila Corvette overcame dodgy lungs to play football, and while her stamina isn’t the best she’ll run like hell every match, the first to move up in attack and the first to dash back in defence. Her ball control can’t always quite keep up with her acceleration, but she can still pinpoint a corner exactly where the goalkeeper doesn’t want it to go.

17 - Maria STOUT - 36 - Maximum City
Right-back

Unmistakable with her dreadlocks, Maria Stout is an utterly fearless defender with an almost uncanny ability to take the ball without the man. While her body can let her down sometimes, and she’s less able to act in attack than she used to be, she can still power a header straight to the net if you give her half a chance.

22 - James YORKE - 21 - Sabrefell Moths
Centre-back

Youthful, talented. Level-headed; rarely gives away a foul, rarer still is he carded. Always attentive, too, rarely makes unforced mistakes. And running, always running, a tireless bastion of industry. He's still young and still improving, but if you’ve already won two titles at this age you’re probably doing something right.
6 - Lucia OAKWOOD (vc) - 30 - Crisisbless
Defensive Midfielder

Oakwood’s never been the fastest, nor the strongest. But if you want a holding midfielder who can shadow a man like nothing else, who can take back the ball and feed it into a counterattack as soon as you can blink, it’s her you want at your side. She is deadly accurate with a dead ball, though she more often aims for Gerhard’s head than for the goal. Oakwood has been capped in, and has in fact started, every one of New Sideburn's 34 WCC-approved international matches, captaining one and scoring twice.

8 - Grant BEARDSLEY - 32 - Parrhesia United
Right Winger

The talisman of his team, Beardsley may as well have a stump for a right foot. Wouldn’t make much difference with how good he is cutting inside and striking in with the left. He scored perhaps the goal of the tournament to win the Baptism of Fire, before finally his connection with Anna Shrike began to click and the two became unstoppable down the wing. Beardsley went on to score the national side’s first hattrick. On his day, then, Grant Beardsley can carry the team, and with Parrhesia’s remarkable 5th place finish you had better believe he is in his stride.

10 - Dale BRIGHTLEY - 23 - Basin Plain (United Gordonopia)
Attacking Midfielder

Brightley used to be somewhat cocky and immodest, but those days are, mercifully for his teammates, behind him. Now hardened by one of the best leagues in the world, Brightley is complete in his role, unselfish but able to take chances when they come, and deadly fast. He’s the first player of international note to move to a club outside the Isles of Serenes, and he’s doing his country proud.

11 - Cheney ROSEWOOD - 27 - Sabrefell Moths
Left Winger

Whether it’s cutting inside or crossing, inswinging or outswinging, Rosewood’s up to the task. Despite an obnoxious soul patch, Rosewood’s feet are almost magical, the ball seemingly glued to them when he runs, and he runs faster than most to start with. While he isn’t skilled at covering his tracks in defence, he is nonetheless the shining individual talent within the team.

16 - Pavel IRONCLAD - 25 - Sabrefell Athletic
Central Midfielder

Sullen Pavel Ironclad makes teams around him come alive. He lead Athletic to victory at the age of 23, and while there may not be a space for him in the starting eleven there simply isn’t a playmaker anywhere near his calibre elsewhere in the country. His first cap took until the final of the Baptism of Fire in a daring switch to 4-2-4, and it changed the entire course of the game.

18 - Tarquin HADDINGS - 24 - Brookford Otters
Defensive Midfielder

Why Haddings, many ask, when the veteran Dacia Mountain is available? Tarquin Haddings managed to anchor the Brookford Otters to success all season, so no wonder his talent is noted by many. While definitely an understudy to Lucia Oakwood, he will not hesitate to pick up the ball should it be required. His talents lie more in his pace and physicality and ever-chasing nature, however, and though sometimes his overenthusiastic nature leads to easy free kicks, he’s shown himself to be worth it if he can rein in his enthusiasm.

19 - Karelline CHARMWELL - 25 - Sabrefell Athletic
Attacking Midfielder

Charmwell guards the ball at her feet like mothers guard their children. She passes unselfishly, takes her own opportunities when they come and occasionally shows flashes of brilliance, though her role trends more towards reliability than erratic genius. You can rely on Charmwell to do her duty, and she’ll calmly execute it just as competently every single day.

21 - Ella BRAMWELL - 26 - Rhagant Schadenfreude
Right Winger

Ella Bramwell, the talisman behind her team's continued survival in the top leagues. She's easily the best with an outswinging cross you'll find, though she's immensely talented on her own, as well. Despite many clubs clamouring for her services, claims she will stay with Rhagant as long as they avoid relegation. Rhagant’s supporters understandably are jubilant at this, on account of her presence is essentially what is causing Rhagant to avoid relegation.
7 - Gerhard THUNDER - 28 - Sabrefell Moths
Striker

Tall and broad-shouldered, Gerhard seems like he fits the mould for just another plodding target man. Unfortunately for defenses, he is far more than that, able to control the ball remarkably well on the ground as well, shoots with real venom and he even fits the mould for a Sideburnese forward in that he’s able to dispossess the opposition fairly well. Pace is a weak point, but perhaps his only one.

9 - Alicia SCABBARD - 26 - Crisisbless
Striker

Short, lean and sickeningly talented, Scabbard runs like a cheetah and fires stunning shot after shot. While her technique is superb, her composure sometimes can be found wanting, and she’s certainly not the strongest striker in the world. That said, she’s fiercely tenacious, immensely skilled and sometimes proves simply untouchable in possession. She’s unselfish, too, and knows when someone else has the better chance at the goal.

14 - Barry KEARNEY - 28 - AFC Raven River
Striker

Strapping, boisterous, unsubtle Barry Kearney still plays like a 19-year old. Fast, strong and skilled, just don't expect him to follow through on any deep plans; he plays in the moment. Gets caught offside a lot, but his bashful, overenthusiastic nature makes him impossible to hate. His energy lends him a certain super-substitute quality, and the ability to breathe fresh life into a stalemate.

15 - Tara LOCKDOWN - 25 - AFC Treason
Striker

A lanky striker with blue-dyed hair, Tara Lockdown seemed a questionable choice for last cycle but seems to really make sense in light of last season, as she headed Treason’s second-half comeback to finish an underwhelming but respectable seventh. This season unlocked her potential as a slow, but breathtakingly resilient forward, able to hold up possession in her hands while the rest of her team rushes upfield for seemingly forever in what fans have affectionately dubbed ‘Tara Time’. Great in the air and a decent shot, though more of a goal-poacher than anything.

23 - Molly KEYNES - 27 - North Laithland
Striker

While the Hares may be a tepid, tedious outfit on the pitch, particularly on the offensive, when you score around 66% of their goals you tend to attract a certain deal of attention. It came to North Laithland to break out their infinite money and snap her up in a neat bit of business, and it should pay dividends. While not particularly tall (6’1”) Keynes is rather stocky, very hard to outmuscle and leaps like a salmon to connect to crosses with the slightest of touches, just enough to guide it into the net.
1 - Portia Thrift (Crisisbless)
12 - James Turnscrew (AFC Treason)
20 - Kurtis Fitzmarten (Sabrefell Athletic)

2 - Anna Shrike (Crisisbless)
3 - Lukas Strongnesse (c) (Sabrefell Athletic)
4 - Cathy Stokes (AFC Treason)
5 - Rook Harm (Crisisbless)
13 - Leila Corvette (Sabrefell Moths)
17 - Maria Stout (Maximum City)
22 - James Yorke (Sabrefell Moths)

6 - Lucia Oakwood (vc) (Crisisbless)
8 - Grant Beardsley (Parrhesia United)
10 - Dale Brightley (Basin Plain)
11 - Cheney Rosewood (Sabrefell Moths)
16 - Pavel Ironclad (Sabrefell Athletic)
18 - Tarquin Haddings (Brookford Otters)
19 - Karelline Charmwell (Sabrefell Athletic)
21 - Ella Bramwell (Rhagant Schadenfreude)

7 - Gerhard Thunder (Sabrefell Moths)
9 - Alicia Scabbard (Crisisbless)

The old ways were best!

Original nation behind Nephara. New Sideburn now symbolises an ideal, rather than a nation.

Kits: Image - National Team Home Kit.

Image - National Team Away Kit.

Formation: 4-1-2-1-2
Squad:

Starting 11

GK: Pedro Sanchez - Veteran Goalkeeper, makes few errors and is very agile for his age. Over 100 clean sheets for his club.
CD: George Huntsley - Oldest team member at 41, very experienced and keeps the team in order. Claimed that although he is getting, this will not be his last tournament.
CD: Kyle Bartley - Strong centre back, works well with Huntsley, as he took Bartington under his wing.
RB: Simon Gillingham - Very speedy and agile left back, usually bombs it down the wing in order to support attacking moves. Although sometimes leaves the defence too open, due to him often pushing far up the pitch.
LB: Davie Baxter - A solid left back, able to play at centre back aswell, very experienced. Prone to injury, but run his hardest every match.
CDM: Alehondrez Alvarez - Provides protection for the defenders, usually holds back and is a ball winner. Not very fast, but Regains possession for his team.
LM: Peter Batson - Able to pick out those long passes in to the box, often drops back and helps in defence. Has great vision.
RM: Alan Stein - Very fast midfielder, crosses balls in and is the free-kick taker. Often shoots too much and is likely to use ranged shots.
CAM: Graeme Smith - The spear head of the midfield, works with forwards and often pushes up to play a 4-1-2-3. Strong but agile, he is always looking to receive the ball.
LF: Alejandro Matio Gustav Juan Novo - Very skillful, often too greedy, but has great contol and decent finishing. The penalty taker.
RF: Joe Benson - The star man, often the target for corners and crosses and has remarkable finishing record. Over 150 goals for his club team.

SUBs

GK: Forrest Smith - Untested goalkeeper, but consistent none the less. Hoping to get valuable game time.
CB: Carlos Grant - A defender that likes to help in attacking moves and is very strong.
CB: Jack Jones - A solid defender, built like a tank, but very slow and often plays as a sweeper.
CM: Charles Huppberry - A defensive minded player, often helps out the back 4 and is a playmaker.
CM: Steven Shorprey - A ball winner in the middle of the park and is able to create attacks out of nothing.
CF: Kros Haltberter - Able to finish hard chances, but is inconsistent. Able to hold off defenders.
LF: Jacob Simonton - A Good attacker, but is prone to injury. Virtually unstoppable when fit.

Tactics, Strategy and Coaches
Head coach: Yuri Petyryvich Gavrikov
Formation: 5-4-1
Style of play: -4

Tactically, the team is heavily inspired by the Rejistanian national team's famous System Karela - it won't make for entertaining football, but entertainment comes a distant second to victory. As the national motto says: Succeed or die. Although Gavrikov made it plain that the World Cup squad will be almost entirely different, the tactical decisions made here are going to be seen to foreshadow the Lzherusskie side that will take the field in the World Cup qualifiers. Judging by the lineup, it looks like the defense will line up with a sweeper - Mikhail Susunov reprising his role with Smyslova - and a pair of wing-backs as expected, but the midfield is a harder prospect to call as none of the four expected starters are known for being primarily defensive players.

Staff, Tactics and Strategy

Staff :
    Manager - Ishikawa Haruka
Ishikawa Haruka is the current manager of the Mizuyuki national team. She has vast experience in football, having captained the women's national football team as well as having filled the position of assistant manager during a short tenure at one of Mizuyuki's top clubs, Okinawa Breeze. Known for being a silky and graceful playmaker capable of threading a pass through the most intricate defence, her ability to unlock teams and leave their weaknesses exposed led to her being accorded legend status by adoring Mizuyuki fans.

After her retirement, Ishikawa immediately took her coaching badges and began to work towards her dream of leading the Mizuyuki national team to glory. Her predecessor as national team manager, the esteemed Erizawa Takehiko, personally recommended Ishikawa for the job after taking retirement following 25 years in charge.

Ishikawa is widely seen as a revolutionary following her successful development of her Zen Flash system. Whether Ishikawa's star will rise further in this Market Cup, no one knows. But one thing's for sure, Ishikawa will be going all out to bring Mizuyuki a first trophy in football.

    Assistant Manager - Shiokawa Kamiko
First Team Coaches - Inaba Tsuyoshi, Minami Kana
    Fitness Coach - Tatsuno Makoto
    Youth Coach - Nagasawa Emiko

Formation :
    4-2-3-1

    Starting XI
    Image

Style of Play :
    +3.5

The Mizuyuki national team embodies possession play. Going by the maxim of a renowned football legend in Mizuyuki, "if you don't give the ball away, your opponents won't score.", the current manager Ishikawa Haruka insists on a progressive style, with emphasis on attack and possession rather than defence. However, Ishikawa's special variation of the Dutch Total Football married with a touch of the Italian Catenaccio system is a totally revolutionary concept in football, one that has enabled Mizuyuki to sweep to several wins during the system's trial period. The national team plays with a high defensive line, together with heavy use of the offside trap to nullify attacks. Ishikawa usually fields a technical and pacy center back capable of acting as a deep lying playmaker, while the four midfielders alternate their positions during games. The two wider midfielders are able to play as both wingbacks and advanced wingers, while the two central midfielders usually breaking up play, but an occasional upfield surge is not uncommon. Designed to catch the opponent by surprise with either total domination of possession or position swapping, this team is wildly unpredictable and enigmatic, to say the least.

Squad

#1 - TAKANASHI Kiyoko - 15 - Okinawa Breeze

A former protege of Ishikawa during her time at Okinawa Breeze, Takanashi was spotted during an annual talent competition by Ishikawa's scouting team at the tender age of 13. Acknowledged as Mizuyuki's first-choice goalkeeper, Takanashi is mentally resilient and tough, although her temperament can be a bit fiery. She stands at 187 cm tall, not the best height for a goalkeeper, but her tremendous athleticism allows her to make top-drawer saves when she's in form. However, she is known to be prone to dropping horrendous clangers, and it is an aspect of her game that Ishikawa is desperately trying to rectify. Despite her young age, she already has 20 international caps to her name as well as 12 clean sheets, a testament to Ishikawa's hard work in trying to mould Takanashi into a truly international standard goalkeeper.

#32 - MATSUMOTO Junjiro - 19 - Urawa FC

Matsumoto was once viewed as the natural successor to the coveted goalkeeper spot in Mizuyuki's national team. However, a horrific injury involving a pair of pruning shears and a lawnmower landed him in hospital for 7 months, during which Takanashi swooped in and usurped his spot. Now fully recovered, Matsumoto sports several unbecoming scars down the side of his face and chest, but nevertheless remains a safe pair of hands and a solid understudy for Takanashi. He is not as talented as Takanashi, but his height of 200 cm makes it easier for him to pull saves off despite that. Matsumoto still has a future with Mizuyuki, if he manages to dislodge Takanashi from the team.

#98 - OOSHIMA Takumi - 29 - Sapporo Strike

Ooshima is the most experienced goalkeeper around. Known for his solid shot-stopping ability, Ooshima remains one of the top goalkeepers in Mizuyuki's top division, and still has more years at the top level left in him. He is accepting of the fact that Ishikawa chose him as her third-choice goalkeeper for the Market Cup, having been the undisputed starter for years under Erizawa's tutelage, but has vowed to do his best to win over Ishikawa. Ooshima is a hardened veteran, and don't be surprised to see him in goal for Mizuyuki if Matsumoto and Takanashi don't live up to Ishikawa's expectations.

#2 - NAKANO Rin - 15 - Okinawa Breeze - Centre Back

Not to be confused with her twin sister Kohaku, Rin is yet another product of Okinawa Breeze's famous academy, and is just starting to show her immense potential. Despite her young age, she has constantly been first choice CB for her club team. It remains to be seen whether Rin can make the cut at international level, but her form at club level suggests that she can have a big impact on the national team. She has been struck with injury a couple of times during her debut season, but amazingly still managed to help her club along to 10 clean sheets in the 14 matches she played in, while also contributing at the other end with 3 goals and 1 assist. Rin is poised to be among Ishikawa's starters for the Market Cup, and only time will tell whether she can firmly entrench herself in her national team. A highly technical centre back, Rin stands at 180 cm in height and loves to surge forward in attack.

#12 - TOYOSHIMA Shigeru - 18 - Fukuoka Cannons - Centre Back

Simply put, Toyoshima is a loose cannon. As befitting his club. Toyoshima is undoubtedly blessed with talent, but his rather more questionable activities has led to an extended spell on the sidelines for both club and country. Nevertheless, Toyoshima has apparently reformed himself from delinquent to a general on the pitch, and the Market Cup might well be his big break for Mizuyuki. He just might do Mizuyuki proud if he keeps himself busy solely with footballing affairs. Toyoshima is the classic limited defender - he can go in hard on the tackle as well as hoof the ball upfield, but technical-wise he is among the most inferior of Mizuyuki's national team. However, he makes up for that by his great positioning, strength and deceptive speed. No matter how many balls are pumped into his area, Toyoshima will be on hand to scramble it out. When he plays, his opponents almost never win headers against him, as shown by the fact that he has won on average 5 headers per match in his own area. Expect him to score a handful of goals for Mizuyuki too, if he can keep his cool on the pitch.

#26 - NAKANO Kohaku - 15 - Okinawa Breeze - Centre Back

Kohaku is the antithesis to her twin sister Rin. While Rin makes the most of her technical abilities by bombing forward to support the attack, Kohaku prefers to lie deep and play balls to her teammates with her excellent distribution and vision. Once fielded as a target man by her youth coach at Okinawa Breeze, Kohaku made the transition to centre back to form a telepathic partnership with Rin following several severe injuries to fellow centre backs in the midst of her debut season. Towering over Rin at 192 cm, Kohaku is known for her passing range and defensive instinct. Her height also allows Ishikawa an alternative strategy by pushing her forward into attack, reprising Kohaku's former role as a target man. Although she is comfortable playing in both positions, Kohaku has said that she prefers playing in defence with Rin, so expect her to be fielded there except when in an emergency.

#3 - SUZUKI Rikka - 16 - FC Sendai - Left Back

Suzuki was once ridiculed by an opponent fan while playing for her local team, who apparently said that she would never amount to anything. The fan's jaw dropped and hit the floor when Suzuki outperformed every man on the pitch in her next game. Suzuki was subsequently offered a lucrative contract by FC Sendai, and she unhesitatingly made the switch into the big time. Despite her obvious talent, Suzuki has been used sparingly this season, with her head coach preferring Okabe Kazuhiko in her position, but Suzuki has shown obvious glimpses of her ability when afforded minutes on the pitch. A pacy wingback who focuses on attack more than defence, her crosses into the area are nothing short of sublime. She also likes to cut into the middle when given space and fire off rockets from distance with her right foot. Suzuki does not have many obvious weaknesses, with one shortcoming of hers being her limited strength. Capable of playing as a wide midfielder or winger, Suzuki will be making her full international debut in the Market Cup, and she will be looking to secure a place in the team for years to come.

#6 - OKABE Kazuhiko - 18 - FC Sendai - Left Back

Okabe is a traditional fullback. FC Sendai's defensive-oriented coach preferred him to Suzuki simply because he offered more solidity and made the defence more compact on his flank. Normally fielded as a defensive fullback or a defensive winger, Okabe is extremely tenacious in defence - he'll stick to his man and prevent him from even getting a sniff at goal. His mastery in defence is compounded by sensible attacking play - Okabe usually goes for the overlap and aims crosses into the box, unlike Suzuki's more progressive approach. Nevertheless, he does not compromise his own defence like Suzuki in attack, and so is a solid alternative option for Ishikawa at leftback. Expect him to be fielded against more attacking teams. His defensive nature will do him no favours with Ishikawa though, so Suzuki is primed to get the nod for most matches unless there is an obvious tactical reason for fielding Okabe.

#4 - SATO Mana - 14 - Shimazu Pulse - Right Back

Sato Mana hails from last season's league champions, Shimazu Pulse. Although Shimazu conceded some 40 goals over the course of 38 matches, the energetic Sato made sure that it wasn't more due to her excellent defensive performances down the right. More of a conservative player than Suzuki, Sato is also in the same mould as Okabe, but with more attacking verve and creativity. Sato's exceedingly impressive stamina allows her to bomb up the right flank on penetrating attacking runs, and she can serve as the key to unlock opposition defences and take them by surprise. Her defensive performances are not to be sniffed at, and she made a league high 5.2 interceptions per game last season as well as averaging 2.1 tackles per game.Sato is a consistent first choice for her club team, and she will strive to make her impression on Ishikawa in the Market Cup.

#19 - OKITA Tsukiko - 17 - Nagato Kaze - Right Back

Nagato Kaze, who narrowly avoided relegation last season, are bracing themselves for the loss of Okita, who was the major reason why they survived the relegation dogfight. Although she did not have the best of starts to the season, Okita quickly grew into the right back position and enjoyed a sustained run in the team, aided by the suspension of the former first choice right back for 10 matches following violent conduct. Okita seized the chance by the scruff of its neck and went on to contribute massively to Nagato's survival, ranking 5th on the league leaderboard for most assists, scoring 3 goals and helping the team to keep clean sheets in their last 4 games to spark a revival of their fortunes. Okita is widely acknowledged as the most talented member of Nagato Kaze, so it is no surprise that teams are trying to prise her away from her club. Okita herself has openly stated that she would not be committing her future to Nagato just yet, sparking a bidding war for her signature. A great performance on the international stage will only serve to further boost her hopes of landing a lucrative transfer.

#5 - AKIYAMA Yoko - 20 - Shimazu Pulse - Defensive Midfielder (C)

Akiyama Yoko, the captain of Shimazu Pulse, led her team to an unprecedented treble in both the league and the 2 domestic cups. Shimazu's excellent trophy haul was largely due to their talismanic captain, who was instrumental in breaking up opposition attacks and launching incisive through balls for her forwards. Akiyama's style of play led to her contributing 12 direct assists and 34 created chances, while her performance in the Tenno Cup final against Okinawa Breeze was noted for her domination of Okinawa's midfield. Akiyama is not hesitant in diving in for the tackle, and she has gained recognition for her passionate, committed style of play. Akiyama certainly has a bright future ahead of her, and Mizuyuki media have reported that a foreign club is considering testing the waters with a tentative bid for Akiyama. Nonetheless, Akiyama has been a one club player throughout her career, and it remains highly unlikely that she will depart Shimazu. A no-nonsense midfield enforcer, expect Akiyama to keep opposition attackers safely and securely under wraps. Ishikawa has recognised her brilliant leadership qualities and her ability to marshal her defence and midfield, and has appointed Akiyama as captain for the Market Cup squad.

#8 - MITAKA Satoshi - 18 - Hokkaido Taka - Defensive Midfielder

The embodiment of guts, tenacity, and sheer bloody mindedness. Mitaka, nicknamed the "Executioner" by Mizuyukian sports fans, has a reputation that makes attackers tremble in their feet. A strong defensive midfielder, Mitaka does not hesitate to give away fouls or chop down opposing players in order to halt the attack. He often tries to get a hatchet job in when the referee's not looking, but this unprofessional flaw of his has to be corrected if he is to stand any chance of selection for Mizuyuki. Nonetheless, Mitaka is an effective recycler of possession, and prefers to go for the simple pass, usually either to Akiyama, Tsukuyomi or a wide player, instead of trying fancy passes. Mitaka is an undisciplined player, as highlighted by his terrible league discipline record - 15 yellow cards and 4 red cards. Ishikawa may be taking a gamble that could backfire spectacularly by picking him, but if her risky pick does pay off, Mitaka could very well be the solid anchor man that Mizuyuki needs.

#7 - TSUKUYOMI Akira - 16 - Tokyo Revolution - Central Attacking Midfielder/Trequartista (VC I)

Tsukuyomi Akira is the maverick of Mizuyuki. His outstanding creative abilities have won him plaudits from footballers and fans alike, and Tsukuyomi was recently named the Mizuyuki Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year. Tsukuyomi has also been called the next Ishikawa Haruka, who was likewise notable in that she was also able to play a great range of passes and had incredible on field vision. Tsukuyomi, one of only two players from Tokyo Revolution to be named in the official squad for the Market Cup, is given unlimited creative freedom on the pitch. He can be seen drifting from one flank to another, attempting speculative long range efforts, or powering his way through the middle with his silky dribbling moves. Tsukuyomi has great flair and loves to take on his defender, so it is no surprise to see him running at the opposition defence. He is also a speed merchant, blazing past opposition defenders in a flash. However, Tsukuyomi has surprisingly little stamina and strength, an aspect that needs some serious work to correct. With 18 goals and 21 assists in the recently concluded league season, Tsukuyomi has been involved in the largest amount of goals scored in the league. At the tender age of 17, one wonders how far Tsukuyomi will go in football.

#10 - ISSHIKI Mika - 14 - Shimazu Pulse - Right Winger

Isshiki of Shimazu Pulse is known as the most prolific dribbler in Mizuyuki. Averaging a 7.3 league high in dribbles per game, Isshiki loves to take her opponent on with her dazzling footwork, amazing speed and tight close control. She keeps the ball very well indeed, and it is a nigh impossible task for an opponent to rob her of the ball one on one. However, her pace does negatively affect her ball control, and she is prone to losing the ball easily when running at full speed. Isshiki's strength also leaves a lot to be desired, although she more than makes up for it with her speed and dribbling ability. Other than that, Isshiki can be slightly selfish, and often looks to dribble even when a teammate is free, and she tends to cut inside and attempt to work the goalkeeper with long shots. Her whipping crosses are second only to Honda's, and are a handful for any defence to deal with.

#17 - HONDA Midori - 16 - Ryukyu Genesis - Left Winger/Forward

In contrast to Isshiki, Honda takes a more direct route towards goal. Instead of skipping past challenges, Honda makes it her job to sprint past defenders with pure agility and speed. She is statistically the fastest player in the Mizuyuki national team, and Ishikawa has been known to rely heavily on Honda in counterattacking systems. An advantage Honda holds over Isshiki is that she has good control of the ball even at high speeds, although her finishing is not on par with Mizuyuki's forwards. Her crossing is not to be sniffed at either. Usually bringing the ball to the byline and crossing with her stronger left foot, Honda's viciously curling crosses can prove to be a hazard to defenders, with no less than 10 of her crosses resulting in an own goal in the recently concluded Mizuyuki league.

#20 - MUGINO Kotone - 18 - Ryukyu Genesis - Central Midfielder

Mugino is the classic central midfielder. With Mizuyuki having an abundance of talent in the more specialised midfield positions, Mugino is usually deployed as a utility player who can theoretically play anywhere among the outfield positions. Her natural position is in central midfield, but Mugino is given tactical freedom by Ishikawa to patrol the field and help out the team whenever she can, be it at defending set pieces, attacking set pieces, providing a passing option or pressing to win back possession. Her passing and vision are quite limited, and she tends to look for the simple pass in midfield.

#22 - SATEN Ruiko - 17 - Mugen Chiheisen FC - Central Midfielder (VC II)

One of Mizuyuki's more dazzling stars, Saten is an undisputed first choice for Ishikawa. Saten often represents Mizuyuki in triathlons and endurance races, and as a result her stamina and strength is second to none. In addition, her tremendous explosive power gives her an edge over her opponents. She often arrives late in the box to take a shot during attacks, and is a prolific long range shooter. Saten is also given the responsibility to shield her defence on top of her attacking duties, and she manages to marry both responsibilities very well. Saten is the quintessential box-to-box midfielder, and her almost unlimited energy makes her perfectly suited for the job.

#32 - YAMAHA Miyako - 18 - Okinawa Breeze - Right Winger

Okinawa Breeze's leading light, the pacy Yamaha is famous for her dribbling and speed, just like Isshiki. She loves to take on defenders and slip past their despairing tackles, but her control is immaculate. However, Yamaha is known to get drawn into silly, unnecessary tackles, often compromising the team's position by receiving a card. Her passion for the beautiful game sometimes clouds her mind, and thus she is not viewed as first choice material by Ishikawa. She prefers to hug the byline while looking for support, and prefers to cut in rather than crossing near the corner flag.

#13 - TSUCHIMIKADO Mikoto - 16 - Mugen Chiheisen FC - Right Winger/Central Attacking Midfielder/Forward

Appointed Mugen Chiheisen's captain at 16 years of age, Tsuchimikado is far mature beyond her years. Her great scoring record in the league, 16 goals in 25 games, highlight how much of a talent she is. Her leadership qualities are excellent, while her versatility allows her to theoretically be deployed anywhere across the advanced midfield or in the forward line. A speedy midfielder, Tsuchimikado is quick on the counter and has impeccable vision, while her respectable dribbling skills and flair have helped her net many a goal. She can be a ball hogger at times, but her coaches have tolerated this shortcoming simply because her selfishness has often led to goals. Still, she is making her full international debut only now, so it remains to be seen whether she can step up to the plate. Widely touted to become Mizuyuki's next big star.

#15 - MISAKA Yuka - 18 - Ryukyu Genesis - Left Defensive Winger

Misaka Yuka of Ryukyu Genesis is an unconventional winger. Instead of trying to attack the opposition, Misaka mostly concentrates on streamlining the attack down her flank. She has good defensive capabilities, and often leaves the duty of attacking to her fullback. Misaka can also organise and start an attack by herself down the flank, although her dribbling ability is rather weak. Once she breaks up an opposition attack or receives the ball on the wing, Misaka tends to drift inwards looking for space or an opening to pass the ball through. Don't be fooled by her seemingly passive game - Misaka has a powerful long range shot and can make inattentive goalkeepers pay dearly with some long range rockets.

#9 - TSUKINO Ryuuko - 16 - Shimazu Pulse - Forward

One of the most prolific finishers in the Mizuyuki national team, it is said of Tsukino that she can hit the post on purpose ten times out of ten from the penalty spot. Tsukino's deadly shot allows her to be a classic poacher - all she needs to do is fire the ball at goal. There's not much to her game except shooting, but to Tsukino, all the other aspects are singularly unimportant. However, Tsukino is also quite decent physically. She is among the top 5 of Mizuyuki's national team in pace, and she can easily shrug off most weaker challenges. She does not make much use of her physical abilities though, and prefers to stay in an offensive position while waiting to apply the finish to her teammates' passes. Tsukino is virtually no help in defending, although she serves to pressure and harry the opposition when the ball is not in Mizuyuki's possession. One touch finishes are her specialty, and she is also great at delivering dead balls.

#11 - KOUSAKA Shizuri - 15 - Sapporo Strike - Forward

A classical target man, Kousaka towers over her fellow forwards at 195 cm. She is quite the strong player, but her agility on the ground is remarkable for her height. The penalty area is a happy hunting ground for Kousaka, with 98% of her goals for Sapporo Strike coming from there. Kousaka tends to dominate her opposition in terms of strength and height from corners, and it is no wonder that her supreme heading ability has contributed a truckload of goals for her club team. Deceptively quick on the ground, Kousaka's ball control and dribbling is acceptable given her position and playing style. Nonetheless, this is a frequently abandoned aspect of Kousaka's game, as muscling her way into the penalty area to either glance a header at goal or to smash the ball past the goalkeeper is infinitely easier given her build.

#18 - MIYAZAKI Misaki - 14 - Tokyo Revolution - Forward

Miyazaki is the complete forward. Affectionately referred to as Misaki-chan by her fans and teammates alike, Miyazaki has all the attributes required of a forward, be it pace, agility, finishing, strength or composure. Her immense talent has been showcased during her spell with Tokyo Revolution, and Miyazaki has been able to reignite the telepathic connection between her and Tsukuyomi at club level in the national fold, with 7 of her 10 international goals having been assisted by the mercurial playmaker. One among Mizuyuki's Generation of Miracles, Miyazaki is primed to take the competition by storm.

Technically Speaking, The Only Way Is Up
Lzherusskia Step Onto International Scene, Fail to Score In 180 Minutes Of Football

Image
Despite the lack of goals, captain Aleksander Matlakov calls himself "satisfied" with the team's performance

Yes, everybody has to start somewhere. And yes, some of the world's finest sporting nations started off with ignominious defeats at the hands of much more talented teams. So yes, maybe we should be grateful that the first exposure the world had to Lzherusskie football was seeing a team built to follow in the footsteps of the dominant Rejistanian sides take on a better squad and concede just one goal over the course of two full games. But that doesn't mean we should be happy about it.

Ahead of draw for the Market Cup group stages, Lzherusskie coach Yuri Gavrikov made good on his promise to get his team some useful experience playing international football when he revealed he had brokered a deal with Jerous Manalo, manager of Sangti's Agilang Dilaw, for the two teams to play a home-and-home series, with the Lzherusskie side flying to the Stadio Ferdinand Marcos for the first game before hosting at the Kolosej Rodinov two days later. Although tight, the schedule was mitigated by the fact only one man was to be present in both teams - captain and national talisman Aleksander Matlakov - with the World Cup squad forming the side playing in Sangti and the Market Cup team remaining at home.

Game one kicked off on a warm and pleasant night for the Agilang Dilaw and a positively stifling one for the Lzherusskies, what with playing in temperatures higher than twenty degrees being an alien experience for most of the team. If the heat had any deleterious effects on the Lzherusskie team's stamina, however, it didn't appear to show as the team seemed able to match Sangti step for step - while Sangti had far more attacking opportunities and a slight edge in possession, their three-headed attacking unit were constantly been pushed back by the five-man defensive core led by the venerable Vadim Grachev.

A pair of substitutions at half-time proved a welcome respite for Pavels Galkin and Shimanov, who admitted after the game that they were finding their roles as the team's defensive wranglers harder going than normal, and the presence of young Maxim Yemelin seemed to indicate coach Gavrikov wanted to take more of a risk and aim for a counter-attack, but this scheme was scuppered mere minutes into the second half. Wing-back Nikita Andreikin had been engaged in a running battle with Sangti winger Marvick Sor since the opening minutes of the game, with both men earning yellow cards already, and a slightly harder-than-necessary challenge from the Lzherusskie defender led to the two squaring off and grappling furiously like a hockey fight.

While no blows were landed, the physical interaction and the fact both had been warned already was enough to prompt the referee from Eastfield Lodge to break out the red cards and, now playing with ten men, coach Gavrikov fairly took discretion to be the better part of valour and returned to form - although he refused to blame Andreikin for forcing the tactical shift, Gavrikov did say that he had hoped to trouble the Sangti defence with more than just three shots. With the 0-0 draw in the books, Gavrikov and Matlakov returned to their own stomping grounds for the return fixture, hoping that this time, the climate shift would work more in their favour.

Unfortunately, Lady Luck was not on their side - the arctic temperatures some were hoping for failed to materialise and the heavy rain that turned the pitch into a swamp hurt the Lzherusskie team just as much as their opponents, if not more so. Within five minutes of the opening kickoff, Sangti's Vernon Perea took advantage of Matus Zemchenko slipping over to claim a long ball from Aldren Fernandez, and only some astute play from Denis Rublevsky prevented him writing his name in the history books as the first man to score a goal against the mighty Lzherusskies.

Instead, that honour would go to his strike partner Daren Corsiga. Corsiga had had a torrid first game, being asked to spearhead an attack that constantly blunted itself on Grachev and Vladimir Sjugirov, but there was something in the air for him on the night. He had already troubled Rublevsky by rising the highest on a cross from Luke Docdoc and forcing the Lzherusskie goalkeeper to scramble desperately to make the save, and only a heroic block from Liam Goncharenko kept him off the scoresheet a second time.

Something had to give and, in the 62nd minute, it finally did - Artem Ovcharenko was a little slow off the mark thanks to the mud and left a gap for Corsiga to exploit, blasting a shot at goal from thirty yards out that left Rublevsky grasping at thin air. Despite a strong individual effort from Leopold Bazayluk, arguably out of his element playing a lone striker, that was to be the only goal of the game as Sangti ran out 1-0 winners. The defeat may not bode well for the Market Cup, but Gavrikov was full of praise for his players for showing that even if they were out of their normal setting, they certainly weren't out of their league in international play.

OOC: For fair RP bonus attribution, most of the characters included on this roster are from the Doctor Who TV Series (and from a couple of Dr. Who books) and are either real, as in play a part in the series, or just random variations but from the species listed in Dr. Who. Some names will come from the members' list of this thread. For more background info, most of the species should be found on Wikipedia; except for Lazarus, for which you need to search for 'The Lazarus Experiment'. For the Raxacoricofallapatorians, search Slitheen. For Silurian, see 'Cold Blood' or 'The Hungry Earth' (followed by Doctor Who if necessary). For Rory, search 'The Pandorica Opens'.

Manager: Rassilon (Species: Time Lord; the first Lord President of Gallifrey, Rassilon created the Eye of Harmony, which gave the Time Lords their time travelling ability. All in all, he became the foundation of Gallifrey, although that may all be just public relations. He had discovered the secret to immortality, but was deposed by rebellious Time Lords, before going into an eternal sleep in the Tomb of Rassilon, located in the Death Zone. Late on in the Time War, he was seemingly brought back to direct the war efforts, but as he was willing to destroy the Time Vortex and thus the whole of creation [in the Whoniverse, if not all universes], to win the Time War, the Doctor time-locked him and the whole of Gallifrey.)
Assistant Manager: Adam Loftus (Normal human, aged 69; returned to the national team after a break of a few World Cups, but has basically been the behind the many managers there have been since the creation of the team back in World Cup 49 [OOC: a bit like Stuart Pearce of England].)
Coach: Sameer Ahmad (Normal human, aged 50; is the older brother of Shabeen, and also has one of the higher goal counts, but has been much eclipsed by his brother's success.)
Coach and Team blogger:Shabeen Ahmad III (Normal Human, aged 48; has scored over 200 goals for the EL national team, and is still an inspiration to everyone, nearly taking the team to the playoffs in World Cup 58, which has his first foray into full management.)

This team were all taken out of their respective time-lines by Time Scoop technology, so where some may be dead by this time, they are alive at this point in space-time. And it was the ELFA who did this, with the help of its inventor, Rassilon.

Goalkeepers:

Blon Fel-Fotch Pasameer-Day Slitheen: Species: Raxacoricofallapatorian (family: Slitheen); refer to as Blon. Was caught impersonating MI5's Margaret Blaine in 2005 (Earth time), where she and her family members were planning to instigate World War III and turn the planet into fissile material, ready to sell. With the plan destroyed by a well-timed Harpoon missile, she managed to escape, but was the only one. She then went on to become Mayor of Cardiff, using a nuclear plant and the Cardiff Rift to attempt to escape. She did, but in doing so regressed into an egg, and was delivered to the hatcheries on Raxacoricofallpatorius for a second chance at life.

The Abzorbaloff: Species: Unknown, but related to Raxacoricofallapatorians (albeit despising them); Originating from Raxacoricofallapatorius' twin planet, Clom, this particular one came to Earth and tricked a group of humans who were searching for the Doctor to join him, but eventually absorbing them all to satisfy his hunger.

Outfielders (Basically, this lot can play anywhere on the pitch apart from in goal):

Strax: He was a Commander for the Sontaran Military, but was disgraced for an unknown reason, and then was forced to become a nurse by the Doctor, to settle a debt. Has since become a member of the Doctor's Victorian London detective team.

Reaper: Species: Reaper; Flying bat-like creatures with scythe-like tails, the Reapers are extradimensional beings, who have the ability to materialise in normal spacetime when a paradox occurs, devouring everything in the area to repair the damage. They can be stopped by material barriers, the older the better, but not permanently, and a paradox on the other side of the barrier will let them through quicker.

Madame Vastra: species: Silurian; Is another of the people who the Doctor a debt, in this case, it is for saving her from a life of crime and hiding out in the early London underground, and she in turn became a veiled Victorian detective. Part of the Doctor's Victorian detective team.

Creet: species: Toclofane/Human (from the year 100 trillion and reduced to live inside metal balls); With the universe on the brink of ending, a group of humans were building a means of escape to "Utopia". With the help of the Doctor, they managed to do so, but only found darkness, and then they cannibalised themselves into this shape. This particular one was a young boy who worked in the sanctuary.

The Doctor: species: Time Lord, age: last confirmed to be 1103 (although he doesn't really know himself). Words cannot describe this man's life, but as for football, he's had "plenty" of experience, having played a match for the King's Arm Pub League Football team and scoring more than two hat-tricks in that single match (and now World Cups 59 through 62 alongside Copa Rushmoris and Cups of Harmony). Plays mainly up front.

Captain Jack Harkness: species: unknown (very humanoid though); Jack grew up on the Boeshane Peninsula as a kid and joined the Time Agency, but quit after a few years, becoming a con man with a Vortex Manipulator (basic time travel). After meeting the Doctor during the Blitz, Jack dies on Satellite 5 in the year 200,000, but is then brought back to life by the Time Vortex, effectively becoming immortal.

Rory the Plastic Centurion: species: Auton, created by the Nestene Consciousness; refer to as Rory; Dressed up in full Roman armour, Rory has had a miserable past, one that has included being killed, followed shortly after by not being born, followed by becoming a plastic duplicate with a full human consciousness. However, he is rather hardened by all this, and also has a gun in his right hand which he won't use, but will still throw himself into anything nothing less than fully committed.

Raston Warrior Robot: species: None, it is a machine; This robot has been called 'the most perfect killing machine ever devised', being able to move faster than lightning and to kill a troop of Cybermen in seconds. Its face is featureless, and its weapons are collapsible and miniaturizable, and so concealed. For the purposes of this campaign, its weapons have been remotely disarmed, but it still moves faster than normal humans can see.

Pyrovile: species Pyrovile; A humanoid being made of pure magma and volcanic rock, Pyroviles are vicious (albeit quite slow), not to mention being about 5 times the height of average humans when fully grown. Pyroviles originated from the planet Pyrovilia, but crash landed on Earth after their home was lost. They grew in the bowels of Mount Vesuvius, giving some of the locals the power of soothsaying. They planned to convert the entire human race to Pyroviles, and in turn create a new Pyrovilia. As a consequence of his magma nature, all match balls will be lined with lead to prevent them from bursting.

Jenny: species: Human/Time Lord hybrid; The Doctor was taken by the TARDIS to Messaline, where a war was raging between humans and fish-like humanoids called Hath. The Doctor then had his hand put into a progenation machine, used to produce clones for the war, and out came Jenny. She was later on killed by a commander who refused to accept the ceasefire, but then came back to life, having died in the presence of a terraforming device. She was last seen blasting off in the rocket, looking for adventure, and now she's here.

Modified Weeping Angel: species: Weeping Angel; modifications: only becomes a statue when opposition player with the ball is looking at it; No information known as of yet.

Professor Lazarus: Species: Severely mutated human (completely not humanoid at times), refer to as Lazarus; Professor Lazarus was eighty-odd years old, but invented a machine which could manipulate a person's DNA and make them younger. The first demonstration nearly catastrophically fails, but Lazarus emerges much younger. However, his DNA was since found to be unstable, and it showed when Lazarus changed into a scorpion-like creature that drained the life energy of other humans in order to keep him young.

Dalek Sec: Species: Human Dalek (Dalek that has taken on a humanoid form); After the Battle of Canary Wharf, the Cult of Skaro, now armed with the knowledge that they were the last Daleks in existence, escaped to 1930's New York, where they planned to recreate themselves in a humanoid form, by merging symbiotically with kidnapped humans deemed to be of superior intelligence. The leader of the cult, Dalek Sec, was the first to do so, merging with the businessman behind the building of the Empire State Building to form a Human Dalek. The remaining pure Daleks stopped the program upon seeing a Sec having emotions.

Silent: species: The Silence; The Silence is a religious order that believes that Silence will fall when the first question, the oldest question in the universe, is put to the Doctor, on the fields of Trenzelor, where no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer. They attempted to bring down the Doctor through an abducted part Time Lord child (no relation to the Doctor), and kill him in a still point, thus creating a fixed point. But they failed.

Captain Tybo: Species: Judoon; refer to as Tybo; Is a Juddoon captain who crashed on Earth whilst transporting the Juddoon's most wanted criminal, Androvax the Destroyer, wanted for 12 counts of planetary destruction.

Vashta Nerada swarm: species: Vashta Nerada; The are microscopic organisms, which when swarming are completely indistinguishable from shadows, and being highly carnivorous, this plays into their hands. These Vashta Nerada number about 3,000,000, but are compacted into a humanoid form, for fairness. After a Kinitar player had his leg chewed off, the vashta nerada that played in that cup have been swapped for a vegetarian and pescetarian swarm (so fish people/giant vegetables beware).

Home stadium: Lodger City Memorial Stadium (cap. 150,000)
The national stadium of Eastfield Lodge since it was built not too long ago, it was built on the ruins of the old Lodger City, the former capital of Eastfield Lodge which was completely devastated by a nuclear disaster and floods within minutes of each other. It stands as a symbol of a new life, now even more prevalent after a horrible civil war and what not. But the new city has now become the footballing capital of Eastfield Lodge after some of the biggest teams moved in after Dillvill declared independence.

Because I can't be bothered to make a factbook, information about Eastfield Lodge can be found here, although some of it will be out of date. Including the facts that Dillvill declared independence and went back to normal reality, as did half the country's empire. And the fact that we are now located somewhere in Rushmore.

Market Cup VI

Image

Flag of Gaveo.

By: Beni Cortez

This is Gaveo's first time participating the Market Cup, with a whole new line up of players, as many legends retire and new stars from the domestic league get their caps. We still have our legend of a coach, Juan Villaroel, former reporter, and one time manger of Santiago. He will lead the best Gaveo can offer to the world. We aren't in any groups yet as the draw has yet to happen, but here are some teams we need to look out for. Teams like Eastfield Lodge, Darmen, Equestrian States, Filopines, Licentia, Mangolana, New Sideburn, Slembana and Max Empire will be threats to the Gaveoans. Hopefully we can beat them all. Hopefully.

Here is a interview I did with Mr. Villaroel, the head coach.

Cortez: "Hello Mr. Villaroel!"
Villaroel: "Mr. Cortez."
Cortez: "So let's ask some questions, yes? Okay, first one. What do you think about the teams in the Market Cup?"
Villaroel: "It's like we are at the World Cup final."
Cortez: "World Cup final?"
Villaroel: "Yes, World Cup final. We might face ES, Darmen, etc. All those elite teams, are here, in the Market Cup VI."
Cortez: "Wow, well here is question number two. "What do you expect from your team?"
Villaroel: "The best they can do.."
Cortez "Ah, so where do you expect Gaveo to finsh?"
Villaroel: "Somewhere in the playoff round."
Cortez: "Finals?"
Villaroel: "Maybe." Grins.
Cortez: "Last question, any news on the homefront?"
Villaroel: "Nope, none at all."
Cortez: "Ah. Okay, well good luck in your quest in the Market Cup."
Villaroel: "Thank you, Mr. Cortez. Good bye."

That was a interesting interview with the man that lead Gaveo to a fifth place finish in qualifying. Now we will show our squad for the Market Cup VI.

GK: Joaquin Cádiz and David Morales
DEF: Hector Montoya, Alexi Mendoza, Alex Orloa, Sebastian Riveros, and Fernando Gomez.
MED: Miguel Franco, Mark Terrance, Jacob Andersen, Bru Yo Chan, Roberto García Jr, Miguel Valdiva, Marques Orleans and Une Yabro
ATK: Cesar Milano, Anders Ericksen, Joshua Hood, Sebastian Cádiz, Santiago Rojas, and Adrián Poncio.

Bold means starter
+5 Style
3-4-3

Manager: Juan Villaroel

As you can tell we have some new players, such as Adrián Poncio, Alexi Mendoza, Mark Terrance, and Marques Orleans. They are all have their strengths and weaknesses, lets look at them. Adrián Poncio, a striker, he is young, fast and most importantly a great shooter. He has some problems holding the ball and passing, but he is improving. Now lets look at Alexi Mendoza, he is already a star, with a excellent ball stealing skills and has a wonderful control skill of the ball. He is a great short range passer but has problems shooting and long passes. Mark Terrance, is another great talent at midfield he is a young passer and is a great option for a counter offensive attack, as he can be just as fast as the best forwards, but just like Poncio he has some problems with ball control, which will get better with age. And last but not least is Marques Orleans, he is a midfield general, great with passing, great with centering, great with almost anything. Although his weakness is his speed, he isn't that fast.

Here are some of the stars of the team, Sebastian Cádiz, Santiago Rojas, Alex Orloa, and Jacob Andersen. Sebastian, is a great player but is slowly aging. He is still a fast runner, and a amazing shooter. Santiago Rojas is the right hand man of Sebastian as he is currently playing in Felix for Napoli. He is fast, and a great passer and even better shooter. Alex Orloa is a aging defender and is so going to retire from international sports. He can still be a problem for offenders with his skills at stealing the ball and is hard to maneuver away from despite his declining speed and agility. And lastly is Jacob Andersen another aging player but still can preform very well when it comes to passing and is really good at cornering a shot to a teammate. This is the last of Gaveo's golden generation, that paved the way for Gaveoan football to the world. After this tournament most of them will retire. This is going to a tournament to remember. Will they make a impact here? We will find out.

So that is it for this week, we will find out who we face, where we will face them and when. In till then, adios, and as always, go Gaveo!

The Pony Republic of Equestrian States
Legacy Hoofball Team - Market Cup VI Roster

Team Background
For a time it was considered the greatest sporting achievement of the Equestrian States: the Market Cup V championship title. Long did the banner hang from the rafters of the Equestria Dome, reminding everypony of the national team's feat after their elimination from the 45th Baptism of Fire. Now, over six years after the Equestrians celebrated their penalty kick shootout victory in Burnden Park, Ipeland, the Market Cup will return to hold its sixth edition in the Equestrian States. Though the Market Cup V championship is no longer considered the greatest accomplishment of the Equestrian States national hoofball team (having been surpassed by the qualification for the last World Cup), the locals are still excited to see international hoofball be played in the nation once again.

Concerns have risen recently among those who wanted to see the Equestrian States go all-out to defend their title. In a controversial move, the National Equestrian Sports Council announced that a "Legacy Team" would represent the host nation in Market Cup VI instead of the full national team. The "Legacy Team" is comprised of the full roster from the Market Cup V team that won the title, and although the team will contain a number of players who still suit up for the national team, there are many who are older and less skilled than the Equestrian States team that qualified for the World Cup.

Regardless, the home-field advantage the Equestrians will earn as hosts should help lessen the blow of not starting such stars as Rainbow Blitz, Cloudchaser, Apple Jack, Thuderlane, and Flitter. Will the "Legacy Team" defend the Market Cup on home soil? Can the older players keep pace with the younger talent from their opponents? Can the Equestrian States finally win another international title after going six years without one? All these questions and more will be answered in the coming weeks as the Equestrian States hosts Market Cup VI.

From his hotel room in Equestrian States, Harrison Pinchot looked down at the computer screen in disgust. Saugeais had applied to host the Di Bradini Cup, and after "careful consideration" from the Starblaydi Football Association, were given the rights to host it. The Foxes had already signed up to play in the Market Cup, and with the groups about to be drawn, Pinchot knows he cannot pull his team out now. He reached for his mobile, angrily punching in the number for the Saugeain national office. Ringing, ringing, no one answers. He hears the automated voice of Julia, the secretary to director Sébastian Kamin, chime in: "Hello, and thank you for calling the Football Association of Saugeais' main office. It is currently past business hours, so please leave you name, number, and who you are trying to reach, and we will have them call you back in the morning. *beep*"

"This is Harrison Pinchot, under 21 manager. You know my number. I want Mr. Kamin to call back ASAP as to why he went behind my back to ask the Starblaydis about hosting the Di Bradini Cup, a cup that my team have been in the past 12 times? I want to know that, after it's too late to turn back out of the Market Cup, that I find out that the FAS is now hosting the event? I want to know why he didn't call me up personally to tell me that this was going on, and that the team isn't being represented? What the hell is going in that office?"

Pinchot clicked "end" on the keypad, and slung his phone against the hotel chair, lodging itself between the back and the seat cushion. He wanted to vent his frustrations somehow. On his team? No, that would put them in a bad mood for the tournament. 'Focus, Harrison,' he thought to himself. 'It's still a tournament to win. Keep calm, clear your head, and converse with him like a sane person tomorrow.' Harrison collected himself, and went down to the hotel bar, and asked the bartender if they had any imported Saugeain whiskey. "No, but we have some Cotdelapomais brandy if you wish," replied the bartender. "Close enough," said Harrison. 'It'll help take my mind off things...'

Football has a long, but not very organised history of football. first introduced to the natives by Cyborg Dutch settlers. The first team was organised in the middle 20th century, but a lack of leadership and funding from local communities led to the team to ruin. The governor of Cartersburg in 1977, Kim de Jong, wrote in his diary that he saw a group of people playing football in the local park and wrote a letter to the head of the Local Council (run by locals) and challenged them to a game of football. The locals put together a team and they played a team of official staff and soldiers. The match was played on Harper Park, which is the proposed site of Harper Park, the national stadium for the football team of Wray. The team, named Cartersburg Locals, lost to the Cyborg Dutch 10-2, but it was a start.

In the late 1990s, the Local Councils in the west of the country established a league of 8 teams, and this will provide the basis for the 12-team Wray First Division. The first team assembled from the best players in the country was formed in 1999, and went on a four month tour of Cyborg Holland along with the Wray Cricket Club, the most prestigious cricket club in the country. The team played 14 games against various select sides and club sides, and they had mixed success. They won 5, drew 4 and lost 5. Striker Alastair (Ali) Henderson and keeper Kieran Ainsley, both 19 on the tour, are both widely expected to start for the national team in the upcoming Campionato Esportiva.

For a regional competition, a large section of Wray fans will attend. Any stand occupied by them will become a sea of green and white scarves, shirts and flags. The fans, known as the Green-and-white Brigade, are noisy and rowdy, and will often partake in pitch invasions in the result of a strong victory. They have a large collection of green flares and plenty of green and white beach balls, as well as a giant Wray flag which is unfurled at the beginning of the match.

The group draw and schedule have now been edited into the first post of the thread. Information on the in-character location of the draw can be found below.

Location: The Grand Ballroom - Harmony Castle, Canterlot
Description: Harmony Castle is one of the oldest structures in the Equestrian States. The Ishikawa Gambit

National team manager gambles on youth

By Sports Correspondent, Matsumoto Yukiko

Football fans, rejoice! Mizuyuki is primed to make its international bow in the Market Cup VI after the Mizuyuki FA formally submitted the 23-man roster for the competition late last night.

Mizuyuki may still be among the world's minnows in world football, but we have qualities that are patently unique - our passion, our commitment, our determination to win, and above all, the abundant talent that is inherent in our squad. Mizuyuki's roster has raised a number of concerns and protests regarding what some see as defeatism, with manager Ishikawa Haruka having selected what amounts to a youth team to participate in Mizuyuki's first ever international football tournament.

When interviewed, a cynic quipped : " It seems like Ishikawa is giving up on the competition even before the first match! Our national team were always going to have our hands full versus more battle hardened international teams, but this selection absolutely guarantees our eventual defeat. I want Ishikawa to go out and achieve victory for the nation, not taking the opportunity to bleed our youngsters in a prestigious international competition like this. That's what the Di Bradini Cup is for! This is a joke, an absolute shambles in terms of squad selection."

When questioned as to her seemingly ridiculous selections, Ishikawa was calm and collected. " I wouldn't have picked this squad if I didn't think that they were fit to represent Mizuyuki. Let me assure each and every one of Mizuyuki's citizens - I will not, under any circumstances, do anything that might jeopardise the national team's chances of victory in any competition whatsoever. Please have some patience with me, after all, it is among my responsibilities to decide on the participating squad for a competition, not some passer-by on the street. I assure you that I know full well what I'm doing."

Ishikawa's roster for the Market Cup saw a host of experienced veterans with seasons of top-level experience under their belt dropped in favour of a truckload of unproven youngsters. The most notable name on the list is Saten Ruiko, a professional triathlete who also moonlights as a footballer. However, Saten is currently involved in a tournament in Rossiyan Union, and will not join up with the squad until the first matchday.

This has been cited as a prime example of the farcical nature of Ishikawa's team selection, with Saten having had no chance to link up with her national colleagues and familiarise herself with Ishikawa's style of play. However, Ishikawa has rebutted all such suggestions by insisting that Saten is a top talent, and would be representing the national team on the pitch come Matchday 1.

It cannot be denied that Ishikawa is betting the national team's fortunes and possibly her own career on this decision to focus on a youth oriented selection, especially since there are plenty of other eligible candidates viewed as more worthy of selection. The average age of Mizuyuki's projected starting XI is a mere 15.64, while the oldest member of the squad, Ooshima Takumi, is 29, and third choice keeper to boot.

However, there may yet be a silver lining for critics of Ishikawa's selection. Our football correspondent, Uchida Shougo has extensively scouted the candidates for the national team, and he reports that Mizuyuki's footballing future may well be bright.

In his own words : " You wouldn't believe this bunch are teenagers from watching them play. I attended a training session open to the general public last week and was deeply impressed by the immense talent on show. Don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but I really feel that even with their relative inexperience at international level, they'll take the Market Cup by storm. Everything hinges on them being able to get their act together and play as a team, as well as Ishikawa's tactical decisions. I can say this with full confidence though - this lot are truly a generation of genii, a generation of miracles."

Well, it remains to be seen whether Ishikawa's gamble will pay off in the end, but Uchida's favourable report shows that Ishikawa hasn't lost her marbles yet. The whole nation of Mizuyuki will be keeping an eye on the Market Cup, and Ishikawa's bound to get some flak if Mizuyuki's performance is below-par. Only time will tell, and we eagerly await the first matchday, where Ishikawa's Generation of Miracles will be able to strut their stuff against international level competition for the first time.

This nation has been retired.

Market Cup Group Draws Held – Lzherusskia To Open Campaign Against Movja
Despite Favourable Results, Gavrikov Urges Restraint

Image
The Lzherusskies will be kicking off their first-ever international tournament at Trottawa’s Maple Bowl

Records are easy to set when a nation is making its international sporting debut, but the fact a record number of viewers tuned in to watch the live broadcast of the Market Cup group draw bodes extremely well for the future of international football in the Fatherland. With coach Yuri Gavrikov and team captain Gleb Pralnikov in attendance at Canterlot’s ancient Harmony Castle, Lzherusskia was officially entered into the Market Cup, landing in Group C alongside teams from Movja, Wray and Swyftlandre.

Looking at the draw compared to the rest of the field, it’s difficult to see how things could have shaken out better for the Lzherusskies, as their opponents include a pair of puppet nations who have likewise never competed in international sport before and a third whose experience extends only to a single regional competition. However, as coach Gavrikov reminded an excited nation, that should not be license to let expectations run away from reason – “It is true we have avoided some of the tougher teams, but this is a brand-new experience for us too. We cannot expect too much from our players at this early juncture.”

His call for restraint, however, was somewhat undermined by comments made by the players in question, with defender Liam Goncharenko summing up the squad’s attitude to the competition: “We know it’s our first big tournament. We know it’s the first time we’ve ever gone up against another nation. And because we know we’re good enough to be on the world stage, we don’t care about any of that. It’s going to be awesome! And we’re going all the way, you know it!”

The announcement of the official squad contained few surprises, with the naming of Denis Rublevsky to the team being the biggest. Most expected Rublevsky, fresh off a strong sophomore year with Vilnera, to be part of the nation’s World Cup squad and, while being part of one squad does not preclude being picked for the other, the chances of the 22-year-old seeing playing time in both tournaments seems slim at best.

The Lzherusskie schedule runs as follows:
MD1: vs. Movja - Maple Bowl, Trottawa
MD2: vs. Wray - Salt Lick Stadium, Salt Lick City
MD3: vs. Swyftlandre - Salt Lick Stadium, Salt Lick City
MD4: vs. Movja - Salt Lick Stadium, Salt Lick City
MD5: vs. Wray - Maple Bowl, Trottawa
MD6: vs. Swyftlandre - Maple Bowl, Trottawa

Ko-orenite National Football Team - Market Cup VI
ImageImage

This team is made up of the players that just fell out of the top 23 for the World Cup. With a good performance, some of them might make it into the World Cup selection. Like the national team, this team has -3 for style modifier. They will play in the same kits as the 'real' NT, which means most of these players have never worn one before or wear one after this tournament.

The formation is 5-3-2, but with two defenders that like to go to the front, the formation might as well be 3-5-2. Or 3-3-4 from time to time, even, considering the wingers.

Wayne Stephens stepped off of the airplane platform looking at the pony masterpiece of the Equestrian States,"Well I'll be dammed the rumors are true." Franz Bramer looked and said to himself,"Guess I'm not having sex!"
Victor Rios broke up the word skirmish about the country,"Well it's in a way beautiful, and plus be thankful we just squeezed through the tournament games we had to do to get here so take in the air, because for the next 2 years we're going to be in a lot of places like this." he continued,"But any who, we have hell of a lot of practice we have to get through, because our damn pilot got lost in the sky's, that being said as soon as you get to the hotel get in your practice uniforms and get into the bus we have a lot of practice." Everyone looked at the pilot with a face of anguish,"Sorry?"
