They're dropping like flies

Postby Durkadurkiranistan II » Tue Apr 30, 2013 7:48 pm

Another retirement thread. This one will be brief.

I hesitate to call it 'retirement' at all, because really, Nationstates is just a game and we don't have 'careers' here. I play Nationstates for fun, and anything that isn't fun, I won't waste my time with. Recruiting, writing embassy updates, etc. - you all know the drill. Perhaps that was my biggest pitfall as a player; oh well. After almost nine (9!) years of playing Nationstates, the list of things I'd consider fun (within the game) have dwindled to couping feeders and trolling the UDL. It's why I haven't done much of anything in Nationstates over the past two years; frankly I've been functionally 'retired' for those years. Now I wish to make my 'retirement' (ugh) formal primarily so that people may stop asking me to do stuff.

I see the game entering a new era. Mahaj is taking the reigns at UDL, several notable players have resigned, influence is more popular than ever, and offsite forum democracies are once again seen as the gold standard in Nationstates gameplay, at least as far as the feeders are concerned. Kind of like the old days, in that respect. If you ask me, forum democracies are hogwash, but they give us something to fight over and demagogue about, and that is very crucial to the game indeed. I see good things for gameplay in the near future.

Not sure what else to say at this point, except that, if you think of me and want to please my memory, build an isolated cabin fortress in the backwoods of Northwest Montana, buy a snowmaker, and creepily hit on some poor unsuspecting Asian girl.

See ya.

It's a non issue. I've already sold our children to Colombian drug traffickers.

I must admit that it was truly a pleasure to work with you. We made a very strong team and your unique contributions to this game will be remembered for a long time, though it'll probably be your personality and sense of humor that most will remember more than anything. Stay well, mate, and please don't be a stranger.

Why this is probably going to be the only post I ever make on the forums here. That fateful Recruitment Telegram back in 2011 for TIL brought us together. I have to say it's been a bumpy ride since then. Surely a unique experience. Good Luck and Have Fun wherever you run off too and as Milo said don't be a stranger......or a danger to any of those Asian women.....

I must say, the Imperial Legion was one of my favorite regions in NS at its height. I don't think I've had that much fun before, or afterwards.

It's certainly sad to see you go, best of luck in your future endeavors.

Durk your humor, sarcastic and ass like behavior will be missed. You were a great free spirited politician and schemer in NS. I remember the TNP purge and moved a puppet there just so it could be ejected. You were such a pain in the ass, and I mean that with praise. Your current signature humors me to no end. Good luck in RL, may the wind always be at your back! And please stop back by NS now and then.

Durk, you were my first mentor in this game and as hard as it may be for some to believe much of the success I've had in this game so far is a result of things you taught me. If not for you and for Exshaw, I'm not sure I would have continued playing NationStates or would still be here today. While we often disagreed, sometimes heatedly, and while your trolling more than once got under my skin and made me act afool (which I'm sure was the goal :P ), I've always respected you. I think you leave a legacy behind you that is more than couping GCRs and trolling the UDL, and that legacy is the handful of players who originated in Exshaw but who have since become part of a new generation of leaders in this game (I don't just mean me, here, but people like Koth on the raider side or Isidor on the imperialist side).

You've made a significant contribution to this game and you'll be missed. I hope to see you back eventually but if not, I wish you all the best in real life. I'm sure you've got a lot of great things coming; enjoy them.

Goodbye, Durk. I'll always owe you a debt of gratitude since Exshaw was the region that made me enjoy NS so much and is really the sole reason I'm still around today...so yeah, good luck and have fun.

You have been an inspiration to me from the first time I heard about your coups in TNP. Your commitment to a cause greater than any of us, the Regressive Movement, has driven me to play better. You will be missed.

So nothing's changed, then? :p

Thank you for creating TIL and Exshaw, they were excellent regions to foster me as a young and retarded player. I was disappointed that I never got to raid in those days, but I met some cool ass people and springboarded into the real world from there. <3 u Durk

Indeed a great player is lost this day,

Perhaps this little coup of ours has, in a beneficial way, changed N.S. Gameplay politics for the better. As nations have seen weaknesses lurk at every corner and if vigilance is lost so is everything they worked for. It reminds me of the old days of the A.D.N. and the A.A. How their epic struggle was won by due diligence and a powerful network of committed allies. In the days ahead, I can only hope that the regions who watched this coup unfold have learned a lesson and use it for the betterment of their regions and the world as a whole.

You have my respect.
