Proposed Defense Funding cutbacks fail before High Council

The proposed Defense Funding cutbacks, initiated by several members of the United Peace Party, failed before the High Council earlier today. By a vote of 189-11, the Defense cuts, which would have progressed as time went by, starting with 5% up to 20% of the total Defense budget, were wiped clean off the table. Moderate Party Spokesperson Michael Denerek stated "Once more, our friends in the UPP fail to realize what troubling times we are in. The last thing we need is to weaken ourselves."

Rumors are flying that the Jedorian government is taking a closer look at the ongoing conflict in the The Sovereign Kingdom of Gavinium Magnus, where rebel forces are battling it out against monarchist loyalists.

Roman Mall Mogul looks to invest in Edom!

Postby Late Roman Empire » Mon Apr 08, 2013 5:14 pm

Belisarium Fiscal Journal,
Statius Ulpius, Staff Writer

Roman mall magnate Lucius Galerius has announced his formal request for permission from the Allied States of New Edom, the Province of Bara, and the City of Fineberg to construct a vast new anticipated Forum Idumaeum, a super-mall containing predominantly Edomite shops (especially local vendors) in the capital city of New Edom. It is expected to employ some 3,000 to 7,000 people, mostly locals, and invest a staggering 15.8 million solidi in Roman capital in the Edomite economy. If granted permission by the Edomite authorities, it could well dwarf the Grittonian Ubermall set up by that nation in the sheer scale of its investment in the Edomite private sector, as well as it contribution to both the Roman and Edomite national treasuries in terms of tax revenue (especially the latter, due to the anticipated sales and/or VAT revenue from such transactions conducted on Edomite soil).

Galerius is not without past links to New Edom, due to his recent donation of a mind-numbing 4.5 million solidi to the Imperial Relief Office's humanitarian efforts there, and another 3.1 million to Shrailleeni and 3.4 million to Nalayan efforts there as well. This constitutes, together, a mere 11 million solidi, which is but a fraction of his estimated net worth of 780 million solidi. As anyone can reasonably tell, this philanthropic juggernaut hasn't exactly left the man short on cash.

The only question, of course, is whether the Pahath-Moab regime will approve the new plans, which are said to be "more than shovel-ready, should they be acceptable to the Government." No doubt this is a clear sign that the Empire regards the new leadership in Edom more than respectable and stable enough now to do business with on a consistent basis. A man like Galerius doesn't waste money on a country expected to suffer yet more turmoil that might cost him a return on his investment. He only invests where it is prudent and profitable, which is only true where the State is believed to have a strong chance of long-term survival.

If that isn't a vote of financial confidence in our allies, I don't know what is.

Statius Ulpius is a noted financial affairs correspondent and a former assistant professor of economics at the University of Belisarium. His father is Statius Gallienus, praetorian prefect of Central Prefecture.

Where's the Beef?

Dan Verner, a student at the Isidium Institute of Technology, unwittingly made a discovery that will leave a bad taste in the mouths of consumers. An undergraduate majoring in biology, Verner was working on a senior year research project involving mad cow disease when he noticed something was decidedly off. "Every single time I ran a certain test on some cheap ground beef, I'd get totally different results. I wasn't making any progress on my project and my advisor was starting to get annoyed because he was looking to publish a paper," Verner explains. "Finally my advisor had enough, said he'd do it himself, and was ready to move me to a different project. When he made sure we did it right though, the same exact thing happened again."

Verner's advisor, Dr. Tom Dyer, elaborates: "It was supposed to have been a relatively easy experiment, I save the complicated stuff for grad students. We were just trying to set up a control and a baseline, there was no reason he should have been having the difficulty he was. Sure enough, I watched him do everything right and get junk out. Something was wrong with the samples."

Unfortunately, the delay meant that Dyer was scooped by another research group on the mad cow disease topic, so he decided to pursue this avenue of research further. Deciding to start at the most basic level, he first had Verner do a species identification test for cow. The results were unsettling, with the actual percentage of real beef varying widely between samples, frequently lower than 50%. "The fact that we weren't working with actual beef certainly explained the earlier issues we were having. The next question, of course, was what exactly is in this stuff?"

Eventually working with the Quality Control Administration, Dyer was able to identify nearly 7 different species of animal right away, including horse, dog, capybara, owl, pigeon, and otter meat. "We were expecting the usual pink slime and filler, but this was crazy. They didn't even have ready-made tests for some of these, the QCA needed to do custom work just to identify some of this meat." Worst of all, there were still varying levels of as-of-yet unidentified animal in select samples of ground beef. "Monkeys. Some of the samples contained ground-up monkey meat. They aren't exactly the easiest to catch, and a lot of them don't even have that much meat on them. How monkey meat got in there, I'll never know. They weren't even the same species!"

The ground beef was coming from 100% Pure Beef, a discount meat supplier based in New Edom. According to the QCA, the brand's processed meats were at the bare minimum approval level already, with fresh cuts being largely acceptable. Following Verner's discovery however, the QCA has banned the sale of all 100% Pure Beef products in Adiron until it can do additional testing on all products including fresh cuts of meat. Word got out in Isidium early by way of the university newspaper, and store owners note that sales of the brand have dropped off markedly in the past week.

FINEBERG TIMES

MALLS AND MONKEYS

Written by Annabelle Barca

FINEBERG, New Edom--Outrage at recent allegations on the part of what Mr. George Gutenburg called "The ivory tower self righteousness brigade" at the Isidium Institute of Technology were shouted out during a session of the National Legislature as licensing and economic treaty arrangements to establish the Forum Idumaeum, the project in question being led by development magnate Lucius Galerius.

"It's a typical story," fumed Gutenburg, a senior member of the National Legislature sitting on the Economic Development Committee. "The liberal democracies and socialists are always the ones wanting to slow down New Edom's development with any feeble excuse, just to hold us back and keep us as a cheap market for labour. Then they wonder why the Communists spring up like mushrooms! Meanwhile it is the nations that have an old fashioned sense of morality and authority that back us and encourage us to grow economically for the good of our people."

100% Pure Beef, the New Edomite based meat supply company, is apparently being accused by a university student of not having 100% pure beef. Malachi Mord, CEO of the company, was not available for comment. However a spokesperson for the company said, "This is a list of our regular customers:

Greasy Joe's Extra Greasy Grease Burgers
Countritopian Hotels
Worthingchester Soups Box
Clengin Family Restaurants
The Republic of Foster and Co Import and Export Assoc
The Thank You SLU of Ceni
The Kingdom of Lindenholt

Continuing, he said, "Now, would we be selling all these people a lousy product? Would we?"

And so the broad question of "Is New Edom fit for international investment" is being put about, and is generally a resounding 'yes' from many nations, including the nations swarming to line up to buy franchises from Paladin Cinemas, now the number one movie franchise in the world, also a New Edomite based company.

"In conclusion," said Mr. Gutenburg, "New Edom, in spite of allegations from some nations is ready for new investment and development, and we're moving boldly into the future. I'm looking forward to taking my daughters to that new mall. We look to economic partnerships with the foreign nations and companies that have stood by us and believed in our great potential."

Meat Magnate Gone Bananas?

SEVAN, Nalaya - Outcry in Adiron has prompted local importers of New Edom's premier beef product to examine their stocks. The results have been both baffling and astounding in their sheer variety: capybara, monkey, pigeon, and dog (among others) have all been found in an array of proportions. However, Nalaya's truth in advertising legislation has not been violated by the company, which claims nowhere on the international market that their 100% Pure Beef is indeed one hundred percent pure. The oversight will be corrected by a label reading "May contain little to no beef".

However, the true contents have won staunch defenders in the culinary community here in Nalaya. "It's better than beef," one restaraunt owner explained, saying that he has no plans to take it off the menu and even boasts that he carries it. "Who cares as long as it tastes good? Customers have complimented me on it before. This just goes to show that people should be more open-minded."

Indeed, it seems the sheer variety of the meat may have interested specialty markets and there will be no ban or even reduction on import of 100% Pure Beef. Even critics have admitted that of all the horrible things they expected to find, different animals were fairly inoffensive compared to chemical compounds and pink slime filler which were not found to be present in Nalayan samples.

Malachi Mord, CEO of the company, was not available for comment.

WEDDING BELLS!
Prince Elijah to Marry Quendi Princess!

Image

PADAN-ARAN, New Edom-- Earlier this year, it was announced that Vice-Admiral Prince Elijah Shalmaneser, the hero of the Adiuvo Islands and the hammer of the Ralkovian Fleet, agreed with his uncle King James II that it was time for him to marry. After much deliberation the agreed upon bride to be was Her Imperial Highness and Grace the Sublime Princess Ayára i Maia Ariellaiel (Amanaišal) Fánawendë Círthîrna Arphazel nos-Alcedina! Whew, say that ten times in a row!

However the applicant is a pure classic Quendi beauty who has already met her husband to be at Padan-Aran's Shiloam Palace along with Princess Aleera Alcedina-Aquilaine, the Amanitte Empire's number one roving ambassador, to work out final details for the wedding.

This marriage is intended to establish closer ties with a nation that has long been a troubling influence in the Region--imperialistic ambitions in Dengali caused a clash a short time ago when a large Amanitte carrier force intended to put in to the waters near Josiastown to establish greater influence in the area. However soon following discussions with then Foreign Minister Sif Finnhald, the Quendi saw reason and demonstrated that their chief aim in the Region is to establish greater friendships with all who dwell there.

"I see this marriage, pursuant towards establishing stronger economic ties as well as a close alliance between our two great nations to be one of the best things that has happened this year, and I am sure that it will work very well to help increase regional harmony and peace." said a spokesman for the Monarchy.

And most of all, the average person in the street hopes that Prince Elijah, known to be both a man of compassion and piety as well as of goodwill, will soon be happy in wedded bliss, and as we say at weddings, "God keep them both!"

TECT On DEFCON 2 Alert in Cornellia

Royal News

(UNADS F-36B Super Viper's landing on the INS Independence in the North Aladaran Ocean.)

TECT Military Forces put on DEFCON 2 Alert in the region of Cornellia.
April 16, 2013

The imperial government early last night declared a "DEFCON 2 Alert" for all TECT military based forces. After having a late night emergency meeting between regional commanders and national leaders, the Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Franklin Kelter issued the order for DEFCON 2 alertness for all Cornellian based forces.

It is with heavy hearts, much thought, and with security in mind that I hereby announce that TECT forces within the region of Cornellia are at DEFCON 2 Alert. After an intense thorough meeting, I relay to you that by order of his majesty the Emperor and Prince Charles, Minister of the Armed Forces of TECT, that TECT based forces were put on DEFCON 2 alert early in the morning hours. The specific reasoning is still classified but we will keep you all informed as news becomes declassified. Thank you. - Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Franklin Kelter

Military officials say that the actual orders came in very late at night in the early hours. It has been over thirty three years since the last DEFCON alert raise in the region of Cornellia for TECT forces. The last national raising of the DEFCON alert was two years ago to DEFCON 3. Along with more frequent patrols of the coast and stricter travel through Franklin State; borders have been closed to foreign traveling, including tourism, and plenty of different restrictions in place. Though officials are also saying that "daily life should not change for the majority of people", they advised military forces will be on high alert and security forces "should be left to do their jobs". Experts are guessing that this newest move by the TECT military is the result of "neighboring threats and defense risks". They are specifically mentioning the recent involvement in Gavinium Magnus, guessing that a possible risk of foreign conflict is at risk. Another growing problem experts claim is the recent outburst of violence in the island nations bellow Franklin Island, known by many as the 'Latin Belt' because of the Latin ethnicity of the islanders including on Franklin Island itself.

Experts say the Latin Belt's recent growth of violence is risking TECT defense. "Isla Island and other Latin Belt nations do pose a danger to TECT citizens in that part of the region, most notably on Franklin Island." Government officials do claim that stray long reaching rockets have been straying off the islands of Isla and Cascara owned islands. Military officials have publicly quiet to this point to not frighten the public of the dangers next door. "We do confirm that straying rocket fire has been spotted by observation craft off the coast of Franklin Island. Most have not reached TECT waters but three have managed to to reach inside the limits before crashing into the ocean. We assure the public that interception defenses protect TECT from any air threats possible and if a rocket or missile strayed to close, it would be shot down immediately." Military and national leaders have also commented that if violence reached TECT land or the nation's defense was at risk, they would have no other choice but to "militarily react to protect civilians and preform a military intervention." There is still no record of how many have been hurt or killed in recent violence in the Latin Belt.

FORGER '13 declared a success
April 22nd, 2013

Withdrawal of most troopers now underway.

Ministry of Defence officials and Public Affairs officers of the Fifteenth Army have declared this year's FORGER military exercises a moderate success, citing 90% accomplishment of objectives. A total of nearly twenty major commands either directly under or attached to the Fifteenth Army participated in a series of grueling, and often intentionally confusing, training scenarios in the Vergil Islands. For nearly three months around 270,000 personnel rotated through each simulated battle, ambush, or even simple logistical nightmare scenario. Cooperation with local defensive forces paid off, with each participant gaining from each others particular experiences.

The commanding officer of the Fifteenth, General Albert Foley, seemed pleased overall. "My troopers were given a small amount of time to adapt and overcome in an environment they were not familiar with. From the lowest trooper to my own staff, every man met the challenge and overcame." General Foley was less clear when asked if he was proud of his men. "They did their duty," he remarked.

An absence of foreign commentary or interruption has been cited as reasons for the less than one hundred percent accomplishment rating. Rumours circulated that the exercise was intended to elicit a response, for the benefit of training, have been discounted. "We were busy enough getting rations around," said Public Affairs liaison, Lt. Col. Art Gerold. "Pay the rumour mill no mind." And indeed the training itself would verify the Fifteenth's stance, as the operations were virtually entirely defensive in their focus. The newly minted Territorial forces of the Vergil Islands stood to gain the most from the practice, and the experienced Legionnaires were all too pleased to put them to the test of safe-guarding their homes, families and property.

Image

Last night the first of the Legionnaires departed following a parade ceremony to honour the formal creation of the 974th (Cornellian) Territorial Infantry Division. Representatives from each of the Fifteenth's major constituent commands, as well the Vergil Islands civil administrators and the Theron family itself, were present. The Duke of Delos officiated, with General Albert Foley representing the Ministry of Defence. Chosen to command the 974th, and by extension the defences of islands themselves, was none other than Major General Pieter van der Bly. A war hero known as 'Assegai' to many who fought under him, General van der Bly was hand-picked by the Duke of Delos to guide the division through its formation and early training process. In addition, two commands from the Fifteenth have been seconded to remain behind as cadre. The 406th Territorial Vervang-Division, which built strong rapport with the locals, and the 107th Armoured Brigade.

Not all locals met the good news with cheer and patriotism, though. Youths calling themselves "Cornellian natives" attempted non-violent disruption of operations and low-level harassment. No one was injured, and the few people arrested were released. Overall the Fifteenth Army actually enjoyed the small measure of unplanned problems, with the Public Affairs office citing the "surprises" as "beneficial to the training process." Unrest has grown since the official announcement of the 974th (Cornellian) Division, the decision to augment the garrison, and the confirmation that other Air Force and Navy commands would also be staying, including the 11th Marine Expeditionary Force. One "Cornellian native" claimed, "You have no right to the name [Cornellian]. Go home."

But with the 974th taking up station at Vergil Territorial Army Depot, the 406th and 107th at Fort Burgundy, and the 11th MEF at Port Leto, no one is in a position to challenge our Government's rightful claim to these islands. The office of the Lord Governor declared as much, cautioning any disaffected troublemakers from escalating tensions over "a trivial matter" of "their non-existent heritage." So far, it would seem the Lord Governor has been heeded.

A matter for pride almost overlooked with the end of FORGER '13 was the addition of newly-promoted Captain Jacob Harwood Friedle to the staff of the 974th Division. The presence of a member of the First Duke's own family is surely a sign of the high regard Cecilburg holds for the people of the Vergil Islands.

Remember Rhodesia.

Cracks surface in Moderate Party as infighting increases

Ever since it’s induction in 1966, the Moderate Party has always maintained a large ‘tent’ of base support. Recently, however, in light of debates about continual military build-up and spending, cracks have begun to surface in the otherwise solid wall of Moderate support. After a failed United Peace Party attempt to scale back Defense spending, several left-leaning members of the Moderate Party voiced their support for scaled back funding. In recent months, more and more Moderates have begun voicing their dislike for the current Administration. While the High Council still maintains a large support net for the Duke, polling has found that approval rating for the Duke has decreased by 5 points over the last three months, while 46% of registered Members of the Moderate Party said they felt “The Moderates are not on the right track.”

Among the higher sources of trouble for the party is the continual alienation of left-wing members, who are now beginning to align themselves with such factions as the UPP and the United Liberal Party. 39 Moderate Council Members now describe the Moderate Party as “too right leaning”. On the other hand, the Evangelical Party has recently begun allying itself with other right-wing groups in an attempt to consolidate strength and pose a bigger threat to the essential one party state.

Duke Damian and Head Legislator of State Andrew Karov have yet to comment on the growing dissatisfaction within the party ranks. Although it remains to be seen if this is just a temporal destabilization or the sign that the Moderate Party is beginning to fall from power, everyday citizens are starting to cast curious glances at the government, unsure as to how it will all play out in the end.

First Nuclear Reactor Online

Image
Steam billows from the Vesse'tarret Plant, seen from afar.

Imperial City - Workers at the newly constructed Vesse'tarret Power Plant, located just East of Imperial City, activated the facility for the first time early yesterday morning. After several days of careful testing, the chief operator of the new plant received confirmation from the Matriarchy of State that all safety standards had been met, and that the reactor had been successfully connected to the new electrical grid. Private and public lightening activated across the residential districts of Imperial City were greeted with impromptu fanfare by many grateful subjects as long-awaited facilities came online at last.

The activation of the first Shrailleeni nuclear reactor marks an historic moment for the Empire. The ambitious project, coordinated alongside experts from the Empire of Urarail, has consumed much of the Imperial government's activities for many months. The Vesse'tarret Plant is only the first of seven nuclear power plants scheduled to come online this month, including two more to be activated near Imperial City, two near Blue Sea, and one each for Muldera, Tahlmatora, and Froma. The Imperial government has stated that it eventually plans to run most of its urban power grids from nuclear-generated electricity, as well as the much-toted expansion of the public transportation system. The Mother Empress has expressed her hope that this expansion will serve not only to ease growing Shrailleeni dependence on fossil fuels, but also to jump-start Imperial scientific efforts and green energy research.

The activation of the nuclear plant has aroused some concerns from Imperial subjects. Several prominent women have come forward on behalf of the environment, citing the potential danger of nuclear meltdown and the problem of storing nuclear waste in the long-term. Others, especially in the international community, have already expressed concerns over the ability of these reactors to produced enriched uranium or plutonium, the components needed for nuclear weapons. In a brief statement, Matriarch of State Aryni Resyanna fe Shrailleen assuaged these fears and re-enforced the Imperial stance on nuclear weaponry.

"The Royal Court has not made this decision lightly. Hundreds of experts both from the Urarailian Empire and from Imperial science centers have confirmed that these designs are the safest possible, and containment and prevention measures have been checked many times. Great attention has been given to every detail, from the design of the facilities to the type of doors installed. Plans and counter-plans have been made to ensure that the safety of Imperial subjects will in no way be endangered by these facilities. The Mother Empress urges her Children to enjoy the fruits of Shrailleeni engineering without fear..."

"...the Empire once again states that every nation has a right to defend itself against hostile, aggressive forces. Weapons employing atomic reaction are common among the nations of the world, including several which have been known to exhibit barbarous tendencies. The Shrailleeni Empire can and will defend itself with the greatest possible force against foes hostile to the Enlightened way of life. With this in mind, the Empire assures its fellow members of the Cornellian Peacekeeping Organization that any nuclear deterrents possessed by the Empire are forbidden from use by Imperial decree save for tactical necessity in defense of Imperial territory."

'Skysail' Zeppelins Lift Off

Imperial City - The CEO of the 'Skysail' Zeppelin transport company (formerly Enlightened Airways) received both clearance and a large government subsidy today to begin construction on an archipelago-wide air transportation endeavor. When completed, the company hopes to have dozens of 'Airship Ports' constructed across the islands and in every major city and town. The plan would create an easier and cheaper means of mass travel than the current system of barges and ferries, which have recently become overburdened and crowded as more Shrailleeni travel from island to island than ever before.

The 'Skysail' design utilizes a stiff-framed construction which would support many hundreds of individual hydrogen cells. In an exclusive interview, CEO Fressa Dayten explained that this design would allow fully enclosed cabins, four engines, and the ability to transport nearly one hundred passengers per voyage, not including the crew. Lady Dayten has been fascinated by balloon travel for her entire life, and began designing while in the Engineer School of the Imperial Army. When asked about the relative safety of using hydrogen cells, the Lady Dayten had this to say:

"Our design will use cutting-edge technology on its hydrogen cells. It will be impossible to rupture them under even extraneous circumstances. Furthermore, the gas is not as unstable as many people believe. Yes, I know that certain foreign nations apparently had some sort of difficulty with the designs, but I attribute that entirely to inferior foreign engineering principles. My designs are decades in the making, and they will transform public transportation in the Empire."

An Address by His Majesty the King

Postby Gavinium Magnus » Tue Apr 30, 2013 12:57 pm

Nations of Cornellia and the world, and our brave and worthy subjects,

An opportunity has come to terminate the war with Deadora before any serious harm can be done to all parties, provided that the Deadorans have the good sense to take that chance. If they refuse, we will have no alternative but to defend ourselves against their aggression, their invasion of our sovereign territory and airspace. Make no mistake, they are the aggressors. It is only out of our traditional desire for peace and prosperity for all that we are even willing to consider the possibility of terminating this war under circumstances other than the complete destruction of the Deadoran state. If they decline this chance, they will force our hands, and we will fight on to total victory by any means at our disposal.

I regret that they have so far been deaf and also that certain foreign nations have been so blind as to the extent of their guilt and their belligerence as to morally rank their war crimes less serious than the ones which the Empire of Common Territories is alleged to have committed in support of us. Be that as it may, if they are serious about peace after we join the Cornellian Peace Organization, which we have agreed to do, perhaps war can be stopped in its tracks. May the Light give us all the wisdom and forbearance needed to achieve peace in circumstances which are so ominous in their portents of war. If the Deadorans do not take our offered olive branch, we will be forced to cement and strengthen our alliance with the Empire of Common Territories as a hedge against the aggression, imperialism, and expansion of Deadora and her Nazi puppets.

Do not for a second forget who started this war: it was Deadora, not us and not the Empire of Common Territories. Only by agreeing to respect our national sovereignty and respecting our new status as members of the CPO will Deadora avoid war, by withdrawing all occupying and invading troops and aircraft, plus the Nazi collaborators, from our soil. I urge all parties to respect the sovereign rights of Gavinium and send only a contingent of peacekeepers, nothing more, from the CPO, rather than combat troops. If these boundaries are respected, peace can still emerge from the ashes of war.

Thank you all for listening and viewing this address to the nation. Good afternoon and the Light be with you.

Missile strikes hit Deadora

Image

The sights of death and destruction were present throughout Deadora today, courtesy of The Empire of Common Territories. The attack is undoubtedly a result of Deadoran support of rebel forces in Gavinium Magnus, where TECT has declared it’s support for the Monarchy. TECT was quick to announce a declaration of war between the two nations, and troops and equipment on both sides are being mobilized for the upcoming conflict.

“This is a serious event,” Said Foreign Analyst Steven Nerovic, “A war breaking out in the central Cornellian continent will have resonating effects throughout the region.”

The declaration of war between TECT and the Feminist Empire has indeed ruffled some feathers. To many, the sight of a foreign power expanding into central Cornellia suggests an imperialist agenda behind the curtain.

Although Duke Damian has yet to comment on the issue, several High Council Members, noticeably Evangelical Party President Nathaniel Goodrow have voiced their opinions.

“This is just another case of Common Territories aggression against Cornellia.” Said Goodrow, speaking to reporters in a press conference this afternoon. “Though I am no fan of the [Feminist] Empire, we cannot allow this invasive maneuver to go unchecked.

Prisoners released from royal custody under amnesty!

Postby Gavinium Magnus » Tue Apr 30, 2013 5:13 pm

National Herald,
Owen Durst, Editor-in-Chief

In a nearly unprecedented act of clemency by the Crown and the Government, some 3,452 captured rebels have been released from the custody of the armed and police forces after swearing an oath of fealty to the Crown and joining either the Royal Reserve, the Royal Army, the Royal Air Force, or the Royal Civil Defense Service. They are considered to be under a full royal pardon, but it is understand that any future insurrections or disloyalty will not be treated with such magnanimity by the Crown or the State.

Another 421 such insurgents have reportedly been executed or imprisoned for their crimes against the Realm, due to their "utter refusal to accept the terms of this conditional pardon." It is yet unclear how many have been interned and how many executed, but it is suspected that the latter number at least fifty, due to the number of coffins requested by the internment camps. Among these are believed to be hard-line Marxist and Communist agitators, such as the so-called "commissars" who led the revolutionary militias. The executions were apparently conducted by hanging in front of the entire camps.

The timing is not a coincidence, in terms of the recent Deadoran aggression against Gavinium, as a way to the invaders not to count on collaborators or other traitors to aid them in their invasion of this nation. The message should be unmistakable to these Fascist scum that we will not tolerate betrayal or meddling in our sovereign affairs.

Old Habits Die Hard

The Cornellian Peace Organization is currently undergoing a trial-by-fire of sorts. In the first major regional crisis since its formation, the CPO is attempting to broker a truce between the warring parties in Gavinium Magnus. As part of the CPO's multinational peacekeeping force, Adiran troops are prepared to enforce terms of a ceasefire.

The three major belligerents bear closer inspection. Deadora, the region's most visible gynocentric dictatorship, appears to have kicked a hornets' nest. After the Gavinians handily put Beck's coup down, Thrall appears to have shown her hand in invading Gavinium Magnus proper. Whether Beck was acting on her own or had Deadoran support from the outset remains to be seen, but at this point it appears Thrall is fully aligned with the would-be Gavinian revolutionary. However, this puts them in the unfortunate bargaining position of having backed an armed rebellion on foreign soil. At this point, Thrall's government should be grateful if given the opportunity to pull out of Gavinian territory. If not for the third party to this war, the whole affair could be cut-and-dry and probably not worth an editorial.

Just as Gavinium was undergoing a massive internal crisis, who happened to be right there but the Empire of Common Territories? Naturally, the Empire started small, playing an advisory role to the Gavinian military. Then, of course, Commoner military forces start flooding into Gavinium, ostensibly in a defensive role. Next thing you know, hundreds of cruise missiles are flying not at Deadoran ground forces in Gavinium Magnus, but civilian targets within Deadora itself.

Commoners are familiar with this strategy, of course. They've done it before, right here. When Ceti was falling apart, the Commoners offered help, said they had a plan to fix everything. They promised a return to prosperity and an end to Ceti's political problems. What we got was a dismantling of Ceti's constitution, civil war, and the Commoners pilfering whatever they could from western Ceti until we, Adiron, kicked them out.

What we're seeing in Mark Hoover's inflammatory response to the CPO is a picture of the real Empire: a child with his hand caught in the cookie jar. They demand an exception be made to the no-fly zone over TECT's (newly-acquired) Princess Sophia airbase. They justify civilian casualties (as opposed to Deadoran ground forces) with "We did what we had to." They lash out at New Edom and the Shraileen for having the audacity to allow one newspaper to criticize them.

Perhaps this attitude suggests something else: TECT doesn't want peace, or at least not yet. The Commoners want Gavinium Magnus to be entirely dependent on them to resolve this crisis, giving them leverage to add another part of Cornellia as a protectorate. Don't fall for it, Gavinium.

Gavinium Weekly Financier
Oldrich Slovak, Editor-in-Chief

With the conservatorship of the National Herald, its recent Editor-in-Chief, Owen Durst, has been appointed Minister of Information in the new cabinet created this morning. Count Rupert de Mark remains Chancellor, but with Julian Calvert as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stephanie Martineau as State Secretary to the Chancellor, HRH Princess Anne-Marie as Delegate to the Peace Council, and Prince Mithra now serving as Deputy Chancellor as well as Minister of War. Alistair Winthrop, a professor of law at the Royal College of Law and Medicine, has been appointed the new Minister of Justice. HRH Princess Desiree has accepted the post of Minister of Health and Education. Noted, semi-retired financier Lionel Cabot has been named the new Minister of Finance and Chairman of the Royal Central Bank. Dr. Avram Horowitz, President of the Royal Historical Society of Gavinium Magnus made Gavinian history by becoming the first Jewish cabinet minister: Minister of Culture. Maria Static, an immigrant from Croatia turned tour guide, has been tapped to fill the Tourism post. Severus Marcellus, a retired constable of Roman descent, is the new Minister of the Interior. Recycling activist Jacqueline Fox is Minister of Environment and Countess Natalie Sila-de Mark, the Chancellor's wife, is Minister of Social Welfare. Economist Gennady Suvorov is the new Minister of Trade, former airport manager Laura Pierce the Minister of Transportation, and labor lawyer Ernst Volkmann is the new Minister of Labor.

In other news, the new Foreign Minister has urged the Empire of Common Territories to "comply with all provisions of the armistice to which we have agreed as belligerents, remembering that the Princess Sophia Air Base is under lease, not having been purchased outright by the Empire from the Kingdom. We are still allies, but we expect you, in our capacity as the host nation, to keep faith to your oaths and your sacred word. We have trusted you thus far, do not breach that trust, we encourage you. One must keep to one's vows, if one is to be respected as honorable in one's ways. While we appreciate all that you have done for us, the objective of securing our national sovereignty is now more attainable through peace than through war. Let us, therefore, co-operate in the interests of an honorable peace."

No comment has yet been reached from the Commoner Embassy in Gavinium City or other representatives of the Empire of Common Territories.

Anarchist Death Camps Found in Bara

SHAVAN, New Edom - The specter of human evil Nalaya had once hoped to be forever banished and buried has reared its ugly head, this time in Bara at the direction of the elusive Hooded Man and his Anarchist forces. Investigation into a camp due north of the liberated city of Shavan has revealed one confirmed and several suspected mass graves along with prisoners who have been liberated and are now undergoing treatment for severe malnutrition and other abuses at the Nalayan aid facilities in that city.

The victims of this atrocity were kept penned in cages like animals, subject to physical abuses, institutional rapes, deprived of food as well as medical care and other basic necessities, and tortured by their captors. Many were killed and dumped without ceremony or respect into unmarked graves. The survivors were so starved that they were little more than walking skeletons, some needing to be carried throughout their evacuation. Kapitan Petrosian, the officer in command of the soldiers who liberated the camp, said, "This is only the beginning. We know there are other camps spread throughout the region. We have to find them and take them apart piece by piece while preserving the evidence. No one deserves to be treated like this."

Yndhanur Virabuyzh Siri Kalousdian made herself comment as soon as she had recieved the briefing of the officers and soldiers in the field who unearthed the evidence. "This wrong will not go unaddressed," the commander of Vahan Division said, looking tired and grim. "We have a duty, whatever the cost to ourselves and our soldiers, to stop these atrocities in their tracks. We have a duty to shelter and care for the victims, whether they are living or they are dead. The people responsible for this may run to the furthest corners of the earth, but we will find them and bring them back to face justice."

With the Gavinian crisis in full swing, there is a skepticism among the Avangardn that the democracies and constitutional monarchies of the region will pay any heed to the evidence uncovered. Regardless of CPO support, the Protector has authorized advanced aerial sweeps of Anarchist-controlled zones in Bara to attempt to locate more of these camps. Both the Sulhanate and the Avangardn have agreed that the location and liberation of these camps will become the top priority for Nalayan peacekeeping forces in area for as long as it takes.

"I have every confidence that Brigadier-General Pahath-Moab and his government are doing everything in their power to put an end to Anarchist atrocities. Nalaya is prepared to do whatever we can to assist," General Ashkhen Martirosyan said this morning in one of her first state addresses since assuming the position of Protector. The tone of her speech was somber, at times condemning when she spoke of the Anarchists and the few foreign forces that have supported them.

This may very well be the beginning of the death of the Anarchist movement in New Edom, and it will be a welcome end.

Murder Camps in Bara

Image
Liberated Girls from Camp near Shavan

by Timothy Stanton
SHAVAN, Bara Province--"The brave ones are buried in a clearing in the woods." said a young man softly, his voice full of grief but no tears shed, as though the heavens had to weep for him. "We are the ones who sought to survive. The brave ones, the ones who would never give in, who did not go mad, are buried."

These are the words of a young man who prefers to remain unnamed following his liberation by Nalayan soldiers of the Vahan Division who were sent after information from a prisoner who had admitted that Anarchist insurgents had prison camps in the forested areas north of the liberated town of Shavan.

For the past several months, New Edom and her allies have been engaged in a war against determined and ruthless Anarcho-Syndicalist rebels who have used everything from terrorism to hostage takings to guerilla warfare in their effort to control the Province of Bara. The Hooded Man, the elusive leader of the Anarchist rebels, swore that anyone practicing the popular provincial faith of Edenism would be subjected to what was referred to as 'forced intercourse' until they agreed to abandon their religion. The Anarchists made good their threats, up to abducting hundreds of Edenists and subjecting them to torture and rape. Dozens of villages have been burned, in some cases with resisting inhabitants locked into buildings in actions termed "Evacuations" by the Hooded Man.

One such camp was liberated by Nalayan soldiers, some of whom wept to discover a mass grave and quonset huts where captives were held like animals. The capture of the camp was a costly victory and the Anarchists fought hard to protect the area. Brainwashing through torment of captives is a key recruiting strategy in gaining them younger soldiers in their early to mid teens. A deliberately destroyed headquarters suggests that there may be more such 'recruiting camps'.

It is hoped that this revelation will bring to an end the financial and military support that the Anarchist rebels have received from foreign sources. Pictures and lists of the missing still haunt notice boards in the towns and villages of Bara Province. It is hoped by those who liberated the camp as well as by those liberated, and their families that the world will recognize this struggle and will condemn those who have used such tactics against the helpless and innocent.

Paladin Cinemas Shrailleeni Sensation!
- by Kerret Feleena

Image
The iconic interior of a Paladin Cinema theater
The cinematographic powerhouse known as Paladin Cinemas has made its debut in the Shrailleeni Empire, and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. With near-simultaneous opening of ten theaters last weekend, subjects of the Empire have flocked in the thousands to see the wonders of modern film for themselves, overwhelming box offices and creating crowds large enough to be declared public safety hazards.

Why such a powerful response? Reasons differed, but most of those interviewed cited interest in foreign culture, the novelty of modern movie magic, and "something different to do on a Saturday night."

While all showings received sold-out audiences, a few have emerged as more popular than others. Frequently cited as "the best" film currently showing in the Empire was the epic historical drama Burning the Eagles, a stunningly filmed and deeply moving story of the Wielkilasin War of Independence which has quickly captured the hearts and imaginations of Shrailleeni moviegoers. The movie's lack of Railtic subtitles has done little to forestall its impact, and has sparked an increased interest in Cornellian and Wielkilasin history and culture almost overnight. Also widely regarded are the bizarre supernatural drama Living With Humanity: No Rest for the Wicked, also Wielkilasin, and the brutal Helladrian action film Terminal Velocity.

Widespread demand for the opening of more theaters has already sprung up across the Empire, especially in Kurungarra and minor cities across the islands.

The success of Paladin Cinemas has also sparked a debate within the Imperial nobility, who have expressed concerns about the impact of foreign culture on Shrailleeni society. Certain Priestesses have also voiced their objections to the violence that many of the films exhibit. These concerns have been countered by the local managers of the cinema complexes, who have argued that the popularity of the theaters attests to their quality.

"We are all Shrailleeni here, and we take the age restrictions on the films very seriously. What's the harm in getting a little cultural education, especially when it features Echaeis Metanou tearing up the racetrack? These accusations are groundless, and unless the Matriarchy of Culture can make something to match us we here at Paladin Cinemas will be the only source of the hugely popular medium. The people of the Empire demand Paladin Cinemas!"

The wave of enthusiasm for the film industry has also prompted some to take up cameras of their own, including several well known artistic matrons. With crowds in downtown Imperial City still dominating much of the street, it could be that movies produced right here in Shrailleen will start making appearances soon.

Baran Death Camps: A Human Travesty
- by Reven Kaltta

Fineberg, New Edom - In a shocking and sickening display of sheer human cruelty, the Nalaya Federated News has reported the unearthing of what have been fittingly described as "death camps" by Nalayan forces operating in North Bara.

Shrailleeni sources, in the form of aid workers operating alongside Nalayan relief efforts, have confirmed the reports of atrocities to FQN. Operational leader Aldan Seyatev spoke at length to this reporter over a secure connection, describing the evidence as "unfathomable" and "utterly disgusting:"

"We first started hearing scattered reports from the Nalayans in Shavan. After a little while the entire area was active, everyone was moving. A few of us went along with others, we had been told that every hand was needed but it was not clear why. In any case, we were completely unprepared for the extent of it. I've seen some terrible things here, but this is far worse than anything I have ever seen or heard of. The sickness, the filth...the mass graves. The suffering. I never thought that I would see something that would make me doubt..." (after a pause, the transmission cut here)

The revelation of these camps has raised pointed questions regarding Shrailleeni involvement from across the Empire, with several prominent members of the Imperial Republicans criticizing the government's actions.

"While the Mother Empress and the nobles play at war for foreigners and launch useless criticisms in support of corrupt regimes, these atrocities have been carried out without the lifting of a single finger to stop them. Where has support for our oldest ally, the Allied States, gone? Where is the concern for the people sent to these camps to be raped, tortured, and killed on a massive scale from the supposedly Enlightened government? The Shrailleeni people are risking their lives to help, but it is not enough. Action is needed, in the name of simple humanity! If the Mother Empress is a true adherent of the Mother Goddess, she will put Shrailleeni forces at New Edom's disposal, and end this ridiculous and arbitrary tension which has risen senselessly in recent time."

Additionally, popular sentiment and sympathy toward New Edom and Nalaya has swollen in the wake of the camps' discovery, as well as a strong outpouring of anti-Anarchist sentiment.

New Wave Armies? The Future of National Defense.

Postby New Macureus » Fri May 03, 2013 2:09 am

National Examiner,
Adela Weiss, Senior Science Writer

The National Defense and Security Command today announced that "Project Titan" has achieved "prototype" phase, meaning that the first genetically engineering soldiers have been "manufactured" through advanced cloning and DNA recombination. These follow the first bionic units and the mysterious "Project Saturn" to demonstrate that "New Macureus continues to advance ahead of its neighbors in the science of war. Our emphasis on science and technology have proven most beneficial to the greater good of the State."

While these units are still in the prototype phase, it is also known that New Macureus possesses some small thermonuclear, chemical, biological, bacteriological, and thermobaric super-weapons, as well as ICBMs and other means of delivery for such systems. Many of these weapons were admittedly "commandeered" from the arsenal of the former Tsarist state of Nekulturnya after the war. They were then improved by New Macurean scientists, engineers, and technicians to increase their usefulness to the State.

The size of the New Macurean Defense and Security Forces have been never impressive per se, but the advanced weaponry has often more than compensated for the inferior scale. The national defense budget continues to climb in these dangerous years, often in connection with the science and technology budgets. No doubt, this emphasis, in connection to the Treaty of Arod with Old Macureus, and the Occupation of Nekulturnya is meant to secure the national security interests of the State.

Perhaps the strong position of the New Macurean State Security Forces and State Defense Forces will enable the New Macurean delegates to negotiate from a position of strength. Only can only hope, at the risk of being re-educated for too much emotion. Then again, the State has lightened up on a couple of issues now and then. Let's hope the liberalization policy of "renovation" doesn't destabilize the social and political order of New Macureus and its neighbors.

Adela Weiss is an assistant professor of ballistics at the National Military Institute. She has a doctorate in ballistics and rocketry from the Institute, and has published six studies on the topic regarding its risks. Somehow she still finds time for the National Examiner. A real superwoman, or so it seems. She even found time last year for her chapter of the Young Atheists League.

FRIDAY MAY 3, 2013

Power Problems Need Bright Solution
The oldest power station in Kaznan suffered a catastrophic failure last night, plunging a third of Kaznan's national power supply grid into darkness. There is no debate that it needs to be replaced, but the question is with what?
"The solution is clear," says environmental activist Vladimír Bartolomej. "Wind turbines and solar power stations are the cleanest there are. We must switch power production to forms of renewable energy, which will never run out. The only minor problems are that wind farms will take up a great deal of space and of course we can't exactly rely on the weather. It isn't as though we control it. But think of how much healthier people will be without all that pollution!"

"Wind power? Solar collectors? Bah! Have you ever wondered when the least amount of strain is placed on the national grid? WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING!" exclaims Southern Kaznan Elektra official Thomas Ladislav. "We need power under our control, and cheaply. Coal has been the cheapest and most abundant power source for ages. We don't need this airy fairy wind malarky when we have cheap and reliable power available for all. True, pollution will be a bit on the heavy side but I'm sure that's only a minor problem, with how well funded our health system is!"

"Now the way I see it is that it's either green, expensive, and sprawling; or compact, polluting and cheap. Wouldn't it be nice if we had the best of both worlds? Well, we can!" claims fission technician Darina Dušana. "Nuclear power is reliable, clean, and although it isn't cheap, it won't break the bank. There is a risk of deadly meltdown, but this is relatively small, and the only people who could be against this are anti-nuclear protesters, but what do we care about those tree-hugging hippies?"

Death Camps found in Bara

Sources in the Bara province of New Edom reported the existent of a Anarchist death camps yesterday, bringing the horrors of the anarchist movement to light. The reality of the situation is now apparent; the Anarchist forces are without any shred of human decency. Descriptions of the camp were horrific, and a horrifying spectral of what evils the human species are capable of.

Reports indicate that prisoners were raped, beaten, and starved, while bodies were dumped in mass graves. Although only one so far has been unearthed, but several more are expected to be found.

Nalayan troops in Bara are reported to be increasing surveillance in order to locate more death camps.

The Erosion of an Alliance?

ARMAVIR, Nalaya - "How long until they realize that we are the epitome of everything they reject?" These were the words of Sulh Hakob Movsesian earlier today in conference regarding the nation of New Edom and their relationship with the Protectorate itself. Despite the support lent to the Allied States during both the Elwe Uprising and the recent Anarchist rebellion, political pundits are expecting a sunset of relations between the two nations after the recent introduction of a re-education program within New Edom targeted at eradicating any signs of open homosexuality or non-conformance with "traditional gender roles"--for example effeminate men or masculine women, whatever their sexual orientation.

In Nalaya, the rights of individuals to live their lives however they please as long as they do not harm anyone else has been considered sacrosanct under law since the unification of the nation under General Vaneni, despite criticism from the more hardline extremes of various political factions. This has shown no sign of changing under General Martirosyan.

The stark difference between the internal policies of the two nations, according to pundits, will invariably lead to a serious diplomatic fracture. In fact, many members of the Sulhanate are doing little more than counting the days before the interim government severs ties with the Avangardn. This may be little more than the normal cynicism, but the programs have certainly left a bitter taste in everyone's mouths.

When the office of the Protector was questioned regarding their stance, the adjutant to the press was quick to reaffirm Nalaya's commitment to addressing the war crimes committed in Bara and the continued stability of Raith Immel. "Eventually, they will ask us to leave. And then we will," he explained. "It is the right of every nation to dictate their own internal and external policy. We respect the decisions of New Edom, even if we do not agree with them."

There is, however, a lingering sense of extreme unease among the Sulhanate that the Avangardn has been unable to soothe. After all, the sun may be setting on one of Nalaya's oldest alliances. If New Edom is willing to turn that public condemnation for a lifestyle permitted in Nalaya into legislative action, it is not unforseeable that the same rejection will be applied to the secular and liberal government of Nalaya. That said, public opinion at present is still focused on the death camps found in Bara, as it rightfully should be.

President Ruiz condemns "all kinds of re-education."

Postby Free Garza » Sat May 04, 2013 9:29 pm

Garza City Matador,
Lisa Benitez, Writer:

President Carlita Ruiz, in her latest speech to the nation, and far most impressive yet, has condemned the "barbarity of the Anarchist camp system, which at first we could not believe actually existed. We needed independent confirmation from the Nalayan press before we accepted that fellow Syndicalists could commit such atrocities, something usually associated more with Fascists, Nazis, Communists, and other such war criminals."

She made a repeated point of "disavowing the foolish idea that somehow we on the Left regard the rights of homosexuals, bisexuals, transsexuals, and other oppressed minorities more than those of innocents. That cannot, however, be a valid cover for the crimes committed by the Pahath-Moab regime against such minorities. It simply means that no side has clean hands, and the Anarchists have betrayed the Revolution with their savagery.

"In any case, we cannot condone mass rape, genocide, butchery, or looting by the Anarchists or economic exploitation by the ruling elite and their religious cronies in Edom, as led by that tinpot military strongman who struts in fancy, 19th century uniforms and demands that other nations tolerate his intolerance. If he sincerely believes in his ideas, then he is a monstrous fanatic, and if he doesn't, then he is a traitor to human rights.

"On the topic of foreign policy, let it be clear that we do not accept the disavowals of New Othman, for they are former allies and we know their nature. They have infiltrated us, but we have caught them, just as we caught Mr. Duarte, who now faces revolutionary justice. We know that they have penetrated Gavinium and they have been caught there as well. Let all nations understand what a real menace New Othman is to the region. They still have Olwe fooled, but that won't last. Their only trustworthy leader was Fazil Kotuk. With him sidelined, power is wielded by Selim Targan, the worst sort of zealot and ideologue. All nations will come to know this, soon enough, probably to their hurt and New Othman's downfall."

"Also, while we do not trust the Imperium of Arbites, we have never had diplomatic ties with them, so how could they have infiltrated us? It's not plausible and so must be dismissed.

"As for Gavinium Magnus, let there be no question. We regard both the Empire of Common Territories and the Feminist Empire of Deadora as threats to the national security of our neighbor, Gavinium Magnus, and we condemn vociferously the Deadorans and the Shrailleeni for cozying up to the Nazi colonel, Andrea Beck, whose program of genocide, if allowed to advance, will sink the whole region in blood and death.

"Long Live New Socialism! Good night, compadres, and great dreams!"

These are the most relevant excerpts of the address, which was clearly meant to show that the Garzan firebrand hasn't lost any of her fiery passion and eloquence. It is clear, also, that she "will not compromise with tyranny or oppression, anywhere, anyplace, anytime."

Thank you, Comrade President, for showing this region true leadership. This is something that the region badly needs. We stand with you, Comrade President.

HRH Princess Anne-Marie, while praising the overall tone of the recent cease-fire with Deadora, condemned the recent anti-gay laws in New Edom and called for that country to "either live up to the ideals of the Stonewall Alliance or leave it." She also warned that there was more than a little fear that such policies will be imposed by Edomite peacekeepers on the Gavinian people on the sly, by means of hazing, harassment, or other such unofficial forms of persecution. The particular about possible ETC involvement in the peacekeeping operations was noted in a speech that she gave to the national press corps at the new Gavinian branch office of the Cornellian Peace Organization.

"Imagine my disappointment when, instead of advancing in the right direction under the new leader, away from the nefarious cultic influence of the End Times Church, General Pahath-Moab has embraced that sect's medieval agenda. If they want to do that, fine, but keep it off our lawn and have the decency to resign from Stonewall, rather than hypocritically spout lip service to gay rights and then persecute gays and lesbians at home. I don't mind them keeping the peace, but don't bring that witch-burning stuff here."

To be frank, it is probably due to disturbing reports that General Pahath-Moab seeks elective office, though oddly with the New Feminists, a party that presumably would oppose his homophobic agenda. It appears that, for some odd reason, homophobia is still popular in quarters of New Edom.

Still, as the new Foreign Minister, Julian Calvert, put it. "This is nothing but hype. It makes as much sense to fear Arbites as to fear New Edom, if not more. I have met the Edomite ambassador. They are a strange people, but we can do business with them. We already do, after all. I respect Her Royal Highness, but she is taking this too personally. She supported their presence before, this shouldn't change her mind. This is the only safe path to peace and an eventual treaty to resolve things justly here."

That, my friends, by the Light of Justice, I leave to you to decide for yourselves.

A Public Address by General Stavros Demetriades

Postby Exalted Draconia » Sun May 05, 2013 10:56 pm

To the various nations of this region and this world, under the eyes of Helios, the Unconquerable Sun, the Great Dragon of the Sky, the Father of the Drakonoi, the most Just and Heroic of Gods,

Pursuant to the recent, unwise declaration of war against the Allied States of New Edom and deliberate, if incredibly fast, aggressive movements of the Neo-Byzantine Imperialist swine, who pervert the Gods of Hellas and their worship and profane their names with their foul and abominable deeds, acts so dishonorable as to be unworthy of a civilized nation, be it known that the Stratocratic Union of Exalted Draconia deems itself, bound by honor and its sworn and solemn vows of alliance and fraternity, henceforth to be in a state of war against said empire, to be prosecuted to the utmost of our power until such time as the aggression is discontinued and an honorable peace is attained between it and the Allied States of New Edom.

While we do not approve of the Christian sect and its doctrines, especially in matters of sexuality and vengeance, nor do we particularly condone the internal policies of the Allied States and its current regime, they are a sovereign nation with the right to chart their own destiny, and they are also brothers of the sword, allies and comrades in recent wars, fellow Cornellians who deserve our loyal friendship, and furthermore, we applaud the appointment of a professional soldier to the highest office of the civil government. We stood with New Edom once. We stand with them yet again.

Victory or death!

Molon labe!

In the Light of Helios,
Generalissimo Stavros Demetriades
