OFFICIAL STRAWBEE SPORTS REPORT FOR INTERNATIONAL NEWS AGENCIES:

Strawbee is once again in the World Baseball Classic! The team this year has been completely unchanged as ordered by Great and Honorable Leader, Miss Strawberry. Our Wise leader was extremely pleased with the team's performance and wishes to see what will happen if the group is kept together with 1 more year of tournament experience and another shot.

The team exceeded expectations as our goal was merely to do better than Allinlia, our neighbor to the east. Not only did we beat Allinlia, but we got a 7-3 record for 2nd place in group and made the playoffs in our first year! We also nearly beat Darmen but narrowly lost in 9th inning due to inexperience. Darmen went on to win championship so we almost beat best team in whole world! For our players' thrilling performance and courage they were awarded with world rank #35 and many of our young players got professional contracts from Allinlian Baseball league!

Great and Honorable Leader Miss Strawberry will once again view the games in person and cheer for our team! She has said that she will travel with the team to away matches as well. Our team is a unique team that demonstrates racial unity as we have numerous human, dralin, and pony players. We have drawn Group #3 which has 2 majority pony nations. Great Leader is pony herself and said she is looking forward to vistings.

Strawbee is respected and feared team on world stage now, but they have been placed in Group #3 a very elite group that has some of the very best teams! It is an unlucky draw and will be a truly challenging test for Strawbee team? Can we pull out a win? THE SPORTS ZONE will give you our predictions for the super teams in Group #3:

#1 Group Champion: Equestrian States

Strawbee once again is in group with Equestrian States team. The Equestrian States is truly world elite level team. No, they are best team in entire world! Do not let their world rank #9 fool you! Last World Baseball Classic, Equestrian States team beat Strawbee both games! Wow! They are fierce rivals to Strawbee and are even better looking team this year! Watch out! We predict Equestrian States will win Group #3 easily. lose, maybe 2 games.

#2 Strawbee

Maybe we are too optimistic, baseball fans but we believe in our boys! Strawbee will have very tough time in such a strong group as this, maybe mighty Karditan will take this spot? They are favored team to take 2nd place but we think Strawbee's spirit will prevail. Our team will need all your support and cheers to defeat such powerful opponents in this group, but we can do it!

Our prediction: Strawbee in the playoffs once again! But won't be easy!

#3 Karditan

Karditan is known around world as the cursed team. They get cheated out of rightful playoff spot all the time despite having clearly superior performance and more wins than so many other teams! Why?! Not this year baseball fans! Karditan is one of the best teams this WBC and darkhorse to maybe steal group away from Equestrian States! They are favored team to take 2nd place and even if in third place they will surely make postseason as one of the best four 3rd place teams, despite group's clearly superior strength. They will fight to not be denied playoffs this year, friends!

Our Prediction: 3rd place, but will get in playoffs as very best 3rd place team!

#4 Skeckoa

The X-Factor team of Group #3! Skeckoa is like Strawbee, they are a mighty new team to the WBC and ready to take the world by storm! Watch out! Like Strawbee and Equestrian States, this team made the playoffs last tournament and had dominant winning record just like Strawbee, Equestrian States and Karditan. They are predicted by experts to get 4th place in group but make no mistake! They are big threat to everyone else in group 3. Will they shock Strawbee and steal the playoffs from us? You will need to tune in to find out my friends!

Our prediction: 4th place, but it will be close!

#5 Free Republics

Free Republics are making their debut in the WNC right here and now! Our experts do not know much about this brand newcomer to the big show but from what we have seen they look very good. Group 3 is so strong however that we think they could be in for rough time. But underestimate this team at your own peril viewers! Strawbee was newcomer team and pulled off shocking wins to take group 2nd place. This is a young team with lots of spirit too but faces much stronger group than we did last year.

Our Prediction: 5th place, 3-4 wins

#6 Republic of Lanos

Another mysterious newcomer team! We do not know much about this team either but experts are not so optimistic. They have some players with lots of talent but are in very hard group for any newcomer! They will struggle but we predict at least 1 big upset from this fearless team! Let's hope it's not Strawbee!

Our Prediction: 6th place, 2-3 wins, better luck next time!

--

There is our expert predictions sports fans! It is true test of spirit for Strawbee this time! There are so many elite teams in our group and every match will be exciting as Strawbee Baseball team fights for survival on our quest for baseball glory. Our dream is the baseball championship but we have to get through this exciting group first! Can we possibly do it? Tune in to Government channel 8 for LIVE coverage of every match! Good luck baseball heroes!

GLORY TO STRAWBEE

ALL HAIL STRAWBERRY OUR GREAT LEADER

"Presidenta van Stegen, you're on."
"Oh. Alright." Presidenta van Stegen turned to the camera.

"Awesomites. I come today with some very good news. Our nation will be participating in the 25th World Baseball Classic. This is not only a great way to display the talent of our athletes, but it is also a great opportunity to unite as one nation. The recent civil war caused a large deal of damage to some of our cities, and was one of the worst events in our history. But this is an excellent opportunity to move on and instead look at the bright future our nation has. I will be attending ever single game our national team plays, and will root them on at all times. *puts on Awesomite baseball cap* Go Bombasi!"

"Was that good?"
"Yeah, it was perfect. You're one of the only people I know that can get a whole commercial shot in one take! Maybe you should've become an actress instead of a politician."
"Nah, I can order more people around as a politician. But I do have the height to be an actress!" The 6' 2" Amelia van Stegen stands up. "Well, I guess I have some baseball games to go to."

Baseball has recently surged in popularity in Pretty Awesome Persons. It was always the second most viewed sport in the country, behind football ("soccer") and in front of basketball. But more and more people have been watching baseball, to the point where many analysts say baseball will be the most watched sport in the nation in at least 2 years. Hundreds of millions of Awesomite funtas (Awesomite currency) has been invested into teams, stadiums, anything baseball related.
The sport had a humble beginning though. The first Awesomite baseball team appeared in a suburb of New Madrid, brought over by people who visited a neighboring nation, where baseball was big. Their local high school then introduced baseball as an option in physical education and later formed its own team. By then, the sport had caught on with neighboring high schools, so they formed the first interschool league. From there, it spread to other cities, until basically every high school had a baseball team. Some better funded than others, but at least they had a team. It then spread to colleges, and baseball's future looked bright. When the time was ripe for professional teams and a pro league to form, government funding was requested. PAP's presidents and congress have a history of being reluctant to provide such subsidies. As a result, the president(a) at the time, Isabella van Nistelrooj, refused to give any funding for the creation of a pro league. Baseball's growth stagnated. Pro teams and several pro leagues were formed, but with limited success.
It wasn't until Amelia van Stegen was voted in that baseball got the funding it desperately needed. In less than six years, a pro league was formed, world class stadiums were built and the ABL (Awesomite Baseball League) finally became a reality. In it's first year of existence, it brought in nearly 20 billion funtas (39.2 billion USD) in revenue.

PAP's participation in an international baseball tournament was a huge milestone. For the first time, PAP could put together a team who the ABL was confident could be competitive.
And hopefully, it is.

VauganiaSportsToday

WBC 25 Team Preview

The Infield

1B - The lanky lefty Francois DuBois holds down first base for Vaugania's Golden Eagles. He uses his height and reach to command the first base bag and hold down defense on the right side of the diamond. He isn't too shabby of a hitter, either. He is the leadoff man for the national team and hits for contact more than power. He tends to use to use line drives and hits into the short outfield to get on base.

2B - On second is Roman Janicek. He controls the middle of the infield with his lighting glove on his left hand. Unfortunately, he does have some misgivings when it comes to defensive consistency. However, when the 5th spot in the batting lineup comes up, Roman's suddenly a lefty. He is more of a power hitter and brings some juice to the middle of the Golden Eagles' lineup.

3B - Next up in the linuep in the number 6 spot is Jaromir Braun on third base. His powerful right arm makes him a real gunslinger on defense and the left foul line is his domain. Braun has great lateral movement and a good vertical that can handle any line drive or grounder that comes his way. As a one half of a duo of switch hitters in the starting lineup, he adds some pep to Vaugania's step in the batter's box.

SS - Lined up between third and second is shortstop Radim Mencher. Mencher is a true athlete and his feet can take him anywhere the ball is. He has a powerful arm that can reach first in an instant. Radim sits third in the batting lineup and has some power hitting the ball. The downside is that his swing has a bit of an uppercut causing him to hit more pop flies than the average player would.

C - Taking the helm on the infield and calling the pitches is Marty Bzibziak. Bzibziak has a cool head and always has some choice words to keep a pitcher's head cool. His arm is also a threat to any runner who might want to steal a base. His true prowess is hitting though. He is the best hitter, and sits in the 4th spot, for the Golden Eagles and really puts some gas behind the ball when he connects.

The Outfield

LF - On the left side of the outfield is speed demon, Kerby Rychel. His is a flash of lightning on his feet and can scramble up the 9 foot left field wall at Landvik Memorial Ballpark in an instant. Batting in the second spot, he uses his stance to keep his strike zone small. He lacks power, but he is a smart hitter and knows how too draw a walk. He is also a wizard whn it comes to stealing bases.

CF - Lefty Mathias Hummel patrols center field for Team Vaugania. Though he isn't quite as fast as his counterpart in left field, he does a good job keeping center field free of extra base hits for the most part. A smart batter can get a ball to drop a good ways away from. He also has a real cannon of an arm on his left side and can gun down baserunners trying to score on a sacrifice fly assuming he can reach the ball in time. When it comes to batting, he has a tendency to hit grounders, but when he gets some air under the ball, he can get on base realtively easy.

RF - Relegated to right field is Asmund Skjeggestad. He is a rather poor fielder, but can make a good play if he has some time. He is more liable to allow a ball to drop in front of him and throw it in to the infield than try to make a good catch. Leif Solberg keeps him around for his hitting power. He is in the 7th stop to bring some force to the back third of the batting lineup and so he can pave the way for Mathias Hummel and the beginning of the batting order.

Pitching Rotation

Lars Erstad doesn't pitch baseballs. He pitches fireballs out of his right arm cannon. For the majority of a game, he'll tone things down from his true potential and keep his pitches around 97 mph. Later in the game is a different story. He'll rev things up to triple digits and can even achieve 101 on his good days. While one might expect him to put away batters with his fastball, he usually prefers to dust them off with his wicked curve or a sweeping slider. Erstad will be taking the games against The Sova Empire.

Second in the rotation is lefty, Stian Losnedahl. He has been chosen to take on 15th ranked Zwangzug. Stain keeps a level head under pressure and doesn't really much on speed. Instead, he baffles hitters with his palmball and 12-6 curve. He usually leans towards breaking balls and changeups as his pitvhing preference as opposed to a fastball.

Felix Brauer will be dueling Lymantatia's sluggers. He can reach speeds close to Lars Erstad's and also has a very effective changeup. Those are considered his only major attributes in the pitching department. Although pitchers are reputed to be awful hitters, Brauer breaks that stereotype with his hitting performance. He is not considered a great hitter, but he does bring something to the table in the batter's box and also has the advantage of being a switch hitter.

Looking to defeat 10th ranked Thrilledge's efforts is big lefty Kostyantyn Wasylyk. His top speed is about 95 mph, but that is not the only pitch in his repertoire. His sinker sinks, his curve curves, and his slider slides. There isn't much more you could want from a pithcer. He and Marty Bzibziak make a deadly combination. Wasylyk is also a better hitter than the average pitcher.

Rounding out the rotation is righty, Nikola Vlahovic. He tops out at an impressive 98 mph. He relies on his fastball, but has excellent pitch placement that will keep Backyard Sports guessing. When Nikola deviates from his fastball, he favors sinkers and sliders. Unlike the two men in the rotation before him, he follows the poorly hitting pitcher stereotype.

The Magical Book of Alphabet Letters Baseball Team

Nickname: Letters

The great Warlock, Milar Hansi, bid these letters come forth to take part in the World Baseball Classic to portray his ingenuity and power, and I, the great "J", the spokesperson of the Warlock, present the team thus:

Head Coach: Great Warlock Milar Hansi

THERE IS NO HOME STADIUM FOR THE LETTERS DUE TO THE BOOK BEING TOO SMALL FOR OTHER BEINGS. HENCE, ALL MATCHES WILL BE AWAY.

Starting Rotation
1. RHP "Anderson"
2. RHP "Barry"
3. RHP "Carlos"
4. RHP "Darius"
5. RHP "Marcus"

It seems that the great Warlock has decided on a complete right-handed rotation, which may present some problems, but what he says goes. The names, of course, are what the outside world can call the human-form incarnation of the letters that have been created to represent the Letters in this sport; they have no age, as they exist as long as the Warlock wishes, and they can be whatever size that he pleases, though he usually sticks with 6 feet and about 200 pounds for every position.

The Alphabet Letters league, whose first season was recently revealed, exist for the Warlock to test out different ideas and different combinations.

Bullpen
1. LHP "Enrique"
2. LHP "Frederic"
3. LHP "Gerard"
4. LHP "Harry"
5. LHP "Isaac"

What the starting five lacks in left handed pitchers, the bullpen picks up. "Enrique" will probably be the greater weapon that the Warlock uses, but one never knows with the Great one's tendencies.

Closer
1. RHP "Xander"

Starting Nine
1. "Yorick"
2. "Zachary"
3. "William"
4. "Uriah"
5. "Thomas"
6. "Steve"
7. "Ralph"
8. "Paul"
9. "Optimus"

Every player can play every position, depending on where the Warlock pleases.
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No
Follow my pitching rotation: Yes
Godmod scoring events: No
RP injuries to my players: Yes
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: No
Godmod other events: No
Use DH at home: Yes
If you RP first, you can put any of the nine in any one of the positions, including DH. I'll follow it.

Much has changed for Yesopalitha after advancing to the finals of the last Baseball Classic and being swept by Western Cuba, the first team to lose the final in straight games.

First, the YBL was disbanded. An amateur league has taken its place, but besides the Irkan City Swarm, Hansbrough Turtles, and Raxton Beavers, all the other teams were disbanded, and all the other players had to find employment in the new teams.

Second, many players retired, including Xavier Hammond and Katherine Smathers, two cogs to the team. The team as a whole got a lot younger with a lot more raw talent instead of developed skill.

Now, this team is Valentin Sorin's team. The third baseman, Smathers' pupil, will now Captain this team. Claire Boisclair and Mathilde Leuck also remain, but youngsters like Gerard Wilson, Caroline Lauren, Mallory Valor, Edith Park, and Anne Sullivan will be looking for Sorin's leadership. Valor's performance is absolutely the crucial key for the Assassins as she will be responsible for catching for the pitchers.

Although Melody Johanson has retired from international competition, Victor Van Cruz is here, and he is more than ready to take over. The Vampire, whose game is only getting better and will not be hindered by age, will head a rotation with lots of talent. Frederick Handersen and Joey Derek wowed the fans in the newly formed league.

This team is now used to success. Anything short of a Quarterfinal berth will be considered a failure, and really, at least a Semifinal berth is expected.

After the Flames helped the nation rally together through the first part of the ongoing economic crisis, the fans are looking at the Assassins to pick up the pace after the U-21 Sparks failed to advance to the Round of 16.

Are they up to the task? Sorin will have a huge say...

I say, "Be!", and they be. I say, "Begone!" and they begone. They are my subjects, my works of art. It is up to me to create them, to discipline them, and to destroy them if they are broken. Sure, I try to fix them, but sometimes they get distorted beyond repair. I am Milar Hansi, the Great Warlock who bid the letters come forth from the Magical Book of Alphabet Letters. And now, it is time for the Letters to meet the rest of the world, as they are almost complete.

For an eon of time I worked on them, making and re-making, making changed whenever I saw fit. Time and time again I created and destroyed, but all the memories of each one is embedded in my brain. Now, they are almost perfect, even their imperfections being perfect, as it is true in humans. Yet they are not humans. No, they are letters - as in letters of every written letter of every tongue - and they can form into whatever shape I please. Of course, during the international sporting events, I will have them take humane form to a point, but they can be whatever I wish them to be; they can be whatever they wish to be.

Although I had J, my greatest work and the most independent, sign us up for the Baptism of Fire in football, the World Baseball Classic looms as the first test of the Letters against people of the outside world. Will they be able to play by the rules? Will they be able to be cordial yet different? Will they follow my directions to every thought? I have tested them and tested them, and the entire domestic league was to test them, but never have they faced beings that are not like themselves.

Hence, I am taking a few of them. Though there is no "home field" as none of the humans would fit in The Book, I am taking them on the greatest journey that they have ever been on. They all share memory, they all share thoughts. They are all individual, yet they are all one. "Anderson", "Barry", "Carlos", "Darius", and "Marcus" are definitely all different "pitchers", yet what one learns, the other does as well, and they interpret it all in different ways.

Odd, isn't it? I think so as well, but after billions of variations, this is the best I can do.

I wonder what will come forth as problems. And I look forward to facing them.

For the Letters will emerge. And the history of The Book will never be the same.

OOC: After positive feedback I received to my sacrifice RP line last classic, I will be continuing it this classic albeit in a slightly different way.

Nomolo Porukanai sat at his desk in the parochial office, mulling the upcoming start of the World Baseball Classic. It would be a new fortune, a new journey, for the team he had held so dear last cycle. He had helped them to the best of his ability, and yet still they hadn't advanced past the play in round. He sighed. Another cycle just meant more pressure and more chances to lose. He had hope, as one could define the term in the abstract, but it was not strong.

What he did still enjoy were the visits from fans. Every couple days, a fan would come in to thank him for the prayers he had made on behalf of the team. Some were shy and reserved about doing such a thing, while others were outspoken and loud. But today Nomolo had a visitor of another sort: a faithful one.

"Come in, sit down."

"Thank you, sir."

"What is your name?"

"My name is Kumalo Nalokupani. I made an appointment to see you today about an idea I have."

"Ah, yes, of course. Please, tell me your idea."

"Sir, I need to preface this with something else. I was very moved by the work you did with the team during last WBC. I hold everything to
that team, and I have no doubt that your prayers helped them move even one game further."

"I do what is the will of the people, Mr. Nalokupani."

"I respect that greatly, sir. That is why I ask your advice for a project of mine. You see, I have come to believe in Margaret's powers myself. I believe she is the true decider of the team's fate, and that her decisions alone can carry out the process."

"These are revelations I came to myself. Continue, please."

"So, sir, I want to honor this belief. I want to have some way for myself, and people who feel the way I do, to be able to pray to Margaret together."

"Do you mean like a prayer group?"

"Yes, sir. But this one is dedicated to Margaret."

"This idea I approve of on a small scale. How much have you thought this through?"

"To be honest, not much, sir. I want my faith to guide me to the right answer."

"Hmm, I see. You made this appointment with an idea in mind, though."

"That idea is a prayer group, to be called Observers for the Awareness of Margaret, or OAM. The members are called Maggiphiles."

"That's a slightly creepy demonym, but I'll go with it. Now you understand I cannot be officially related to this group, correct?"

"Yes sir. I come here to ask for your advice, not your assistance."

"Then that is what you will get. I advise you to start this club and try to get members. I don't know how it will go, but it could be big. Good luck."

"Thank you, sir. I will start it immediately."

"Good bye, see you around."

"Good bye, sir."

Kumalo left the office with a new hope. OAM would surely be the invention and the child of this Classic.

Lionel Dayton sat back in his office and glared at his cellphone, which lay in front of him on his desk, where he had slammed it down in frustration twenty seconds ago. He knew that National and Montréalais League executives didn't take the WBC seriously; there wasn't a single contract worth over 5 million that didn't have a clause requiring permission from the team to allow a player to compete in the WBC, and those few who even tried to ask always found the door slammed shut in their faces. But what had just happened was little short of ridiculous.

Thirty minutes ago, he had gotten a call from right fielder Everitt Larson, who he had penciled in as his leadoff man after he posted a .470 OBP and stole 67 bases at Double-A St-Pierre-les-Ormes. He was at the Sorel airport, on his way up to New Montreal, but his ticket reservations had been cancelled and Larson had no idea what had happened. Dayton had phoned the general manager of the Sorel Métropolitains, the National League team that controlled Larson, to find out that les Métros had decided they would rather have their future superstar report to major-league camp. But it was alright - the GM would be sending his first-round draft pick instead; he was getting the tickets in order even as they spoke.

Dayton had told him where he could stick his first-round draft pick and then slammed his phone down on the desk without bothering to tap the "End Call" button on the screen.* He knew he would have to go back through his notes, pick out the best outfielder he'd left off the team, and tell him to go pack a whole tournament's worth of personal possessions in three hours before hightailing it to the airport. And he should do so much sooner than later. But he needed to calm himself down first; otherwise he would end up saying something incredibly rude to his future utility outfielder, and that would make for some long, awkward hours together on the bench.

At least he had a real office in a real building, as opposed to past years where he'd been working out of a double-wide trailer next to an industrial canal, and an earlier period when they had been working out of a hastily converted dry-storage room at the Ministry of Morale office where the cafeteria employees still stored huge bags of rice and pasta in a corner of the room he'd shared with his coaches. Sure, the "real building" had been an abandoned warehouse a mere nine months ago, and it was located in the crime-ridden industrial slum of Westmount, and there were still gang tags on some of the walls, but it was the official home of the NMS Reformed Expos, dammit. Dayton had even come to sort of like the detailed, spray-painted Tec-9 on the sheet aluminum wall right behind his desk - clearly a master had been at work there.

The sound of two stray dogs fighting for control over the office parking lot snapped Dayton out of his reverie. He plucked a file out a of drawer and started winnowing down the candidates for Larson's spot on the team.

*Kids, this would have been considered pure science fiction fifteen years ago. The touchscreens, that is, not the profanity.

If you think the roster has barely changed from last season, you're right. This is because the current team is a group of friends that have been getting together for this since the sport started in Ko-oren. There is a U-21 team ready, but as long as these players keep performing well (and don't lose their form etc), they'll probably keep getting called for the team.

Now This Is Awesome: Phillips Ready To Make History

When Marion Phillips, the speedy centerfielder from the La Jolla Gangstas was growing up, he, like many others dreamt of doing special things. Winning the World Series of Kinzar’s league would be one of them, and perhaps being the MVP of the deciding game. Even though Phillips is not a home run hitter per say, there were likely moments where he hit the big homerun or grandslam with the team down by 3, in the bottom of the ninth. Kids dream, and storybook tales are written. But Phillips, still only 25, and still in search of his first KBL World Series Championship, is going to accomplish something historic that he never would have fantasized about.

It’s one of those certainties when the game gets under way at Madrid National Park in Pretty Awesome Persons: Marion Phillips will be the first person ever to compete in an international event for Kinzar. It will be the top of the 1st, and he will lead the game off against probable starter Thierry Lefebvre. It really won’t matter what Phillips does in this plate appearance, the historic moment will happen regardless. In a land of people who are pretty awesome, Phillips will be Very Awesome when he returns home. Phillips, a career .321 hitter who averages 23 HR’s and 74 SB’s in a 162 games season with the Gangstas wants to more then just have a historic plate appearance. “It didn’t occur to me immediately the magnitude of what I will be doing tomorrow. For me, I try to approach it as just a baseball game. I’ve never seen the guys on the other team, they’ve never seen us, but we speak the common language of baseball, and I am going to do what I have been doing my whole life and Thierry (Lefebvre) will too,” Phillips commented, and then continued, “I am honored to be the first one but I don’t want to the second part of that question to be answered, ‘and he struck out’!”

Phillips will have his friends and family at the ballpark tonight to take in the historic event, as will the members of the rest of the team. However, it is unlikely that there will be many other Kinzites in the stands since this game is equally historic for Pretty Awesome Persons. They too, are making their first appearance in the World Baseball Classic. In that nation, baseball’s popularity has soared recently, and the nation is recovering from an awful civil war that caused a lot of destruction to their land. Now, that nation looks to show the world they are a people united once again, and that figures to prominently be on display throughout the city of Madrid for the game. President Kevin Spencer encouraged all Kinzites to not just watch the game, but watch any festivities that the people of Pretty Awesome Persons may televise to “get a feel of what the World Baseball Classic is all about, an amazing international event that highlights the great cultures throughout the world, and the stories that accompany them.” It is believed that Spencer, who will also be at the game, will look to meet Amelia van Stegen, the leader of Pretty Awesome Persons while he is attending the game.

It will be a great day and you won’t want to miss the first pitch. Thierry Lefebvre will take to the mound and Marion Phillips will step in the batters box, and with that pitch, the international baseball history of two nations gets started.
President: Kevin Spencer
Our citizens are called, Kinzites.

OOC: I wanted to make changes and L/R/ambiguous lineups, but my computer died. So, here is my old roster.

General batting order: first 8 players then pitcher
Vs left handed SP: substitute right-handed or switch-hitting batters for lefties as appropriate. (I won't really be here to judge you ;) )
Vs right handed SP: substitute LH or SH for RHB
DH: starting DH is listed below the pitchers.

Backyard Sports (BYS) WBC 25 Roster

Lineup:
This nation does not use the DH even if one is officially allowed. This is due to the fact that there are nine players on the team, who generally rotate through the positions (including pitcher) and are always on the field. Positions named are the ones the players are most comfortable at.

1. RF - Pete Wheeler
2. 1B - Kenny Kawaguchi
3. SS - Stephanie Morgan
4. CF - Pablo Sanchez
5. 2B - Kiesha Phillips
6. LF - Dante Robinson
7. 3B - Achmed Khan
8. C - Mikey Thomas
9. P - Angela Delvecchio

Stadium:
Big City Stadium (cap. 51,000) in Metropolis

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my runscorers: Yes
Choose my lineup: No
Follow my pitching rotation: No
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: No
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Eject my players: No
Godmod other events: Yes
Use DH at home: No

Additional Note: Apologies to my groupmates in advance for a general lack of RPing from this side. As host (see sig), I'm probably not going to have the time for RPing this nation. Please TG the master nation (ES) if you have any questions on this nation.

The Pony Republic of Equestrian States
The 25th World Baseball Classic Visitors’ Guide

Welcome!
Greetings! If you are reading this, you are probably considering visiting the Equestrian States to attend one or more playoff stage games in the 25th World Baseball Classic, which is set to take place in our nation. Whether you are from the Pony Lands, Mystria, Equestria, Atlantian Oceania, Rushmore, Esportiva, or any other region in the world, you are certainly more than welcome here!

Although the Equestrian States is much better known for its hoofball (as association football is called here), baseball is quickly gaining popularity thanks to the national team’s moderate success in the 23rd World Baseball Classic, and - of course - the upcoming Classic’s playoff series being contested here. The WBC 25 Organizing Committee has selected 10 stadiums in 10 cities to host the games, which will be announced throughout the group stage of the tournament.

Safe travels! And I hope to see you soon!

Po'Keron Petrofëm'keu

Postby Skeckoa » Sun Feb 24, 2013 4:12 pm

Outside of the small coastal town of Masachapinho, there is the Road 24 that connects Masachapinho to the Purple City, the departamental head of the province Skeckoa Oriental. When on the winding road, one begins to notice that the wilderness becomes thicker, and all the signs go from being written in Spanish, to being written in the native language of the island, Eskeckii. Behind a set of thick rainforest, there is a small sign that has only an arrow and the words Ko'ushtapun Keu Pop. 1,231. If you follow the arrow, you find yourself on a thin dirt road that looks more suited for hiking tourist than cars. After 30 minutes, you begin to see graffiti in support of the PEK*,houses built on stilts about 1 meter above the ground. All the doors are open and women in traditional dress carry baskets of cacao beans on their heads.

This is the city of Eskeckii baseball phenomenon, Po'Keron Petrofëm'keu.

"It is a beautiful thing to have one of our own playing for the country" says Doña Rosa through a translator. And she is right. A crowd of his family and neighbors. gathered around a bunny-eared 24" TV, waiting for there Po'Keron's turn at bat.

"It's so intense, but we are proud of him. He always liked baseball, and he always worked very hard. He deserves everything he has fought for" Says his younger sister.

On the first day that Petrofëm'keu could represent not only his townspeople, but his native island as well, he went 1 for 3 with a Sac Fly and a line drive single that flew over Bloodbath Generationer Jeff Smith and into right field.

What Po'Keron represents is the arrival of new talent from the Indigenous communities who have been, and know more than ever are proving to their nation that they can represent Skeckoa just as well as any other person. Regardless of skin-color, and language. He is one of the three indigenous players on the Eskeckii selection that all hold their heads high after beginning the tournament off with a 6-4 win.

Royal One - Post Game Show

Thomas Crispus and Iosue Galenus have just finished calling the game. The Sanctii have just been upset 9 to 2 by Central North America. Petrus Tragus walked to open the first and was caught stealing. Ioannes Sentius struck out. Paulus Sittius barely beat out a throw for a single. Lucius Maccius homered and the Sanctii led 2-0 after the first half-inning. Then, Ioannes Bebius took the mound and clearly wasn't himself, giving up 9 runs and being pulled for the long reliever with no outs in the 4th. The final would be 9 to 2.

Iosue Galenus - Joining us at this time on the Post Game Show is Ioannes Bebius.

Bebius walks into the booth and sits down next to Crispus and Galenus.

Thomas Crispus - First off, we want to thank you for joining us on the Post Game Show. Ioannes, you were not your usual dominant self out there today. What happened?

Ioannes Bebius - I went out there and tried to pitch like I usually do, but my knuckler didn't break like it does back home. I think the wind patterns are different here from what I'm used to.

Iosue Galenus - Your fastball was clocked in at only 95 miles per hour, well below your usual 98 mile per hour fastball. Was something wrong out there?

Ioannes Bebius - Its early in the year. My arm isn't in game shape yet.

Thomas Crispus - There were rumors that the team slept poorly on their flight. Are they true?

Ioannes Bebius - We transferred planes in some God-forsaken hell hole and ended up flying on a plane with a bunch of loud drunkards. We couldn't get any sleep last night.

Iosue Galenus - Tomorrow, the team returns to the Kingdom to host Byfugland at Royal Park. Byfugland was ranked #11 in the world coming into this tournament, but they were upset by Raxillion by a score of 4 to 1. Will Andreas Fundanus be ready tomorrow to stun one of the elite teams in world baseball?

Ioannes Bebius - I hope so. The Captain already changed our flight schedule. We will be changing planes in an Muslim country instead, so no drunkards on our plane tonight.

Thomas Crispus - Its certainly better to be on a plane with a bunch of followers of Mahomet the Heretic than with a bunch of hedonistic atheists.

Iosue Galenus - I apologize to any Muslim foreign residents on behalf of my broadcast partner. Ioannes, your brother Matthaeus did not appear fully recovered from his injury today. What is his status?

Ioannes Bebius - Matthaeus is 85% percent right now. Even at just 85%, he's still one of the best players in the world and I'm happy to play on the same team with him. He just didn't have a good day today.

Thomas Crispus - In your next start in Game 5, you will face Ko-oren. Will you be studying the footage over the next few days?

Ioannes Bebius - Just like Andreas wasn't here with the team for this game, I will not be traveling with the team to any road games before my next start. I will stay in the Kingdom and watch as much footage of Ko-oren as I can. I'm sure somebody has already uploaded all of today's games to Sanctustube.

Iosue Galenus - Of course. The Royal Networks will be uploading every game of the World Baseball Classic to Sanctustube in its entirety and in a condensed game format. Be sure to visit our channel at sanctustube.pop.sanctvs/royal to watch the World Baseball Classic action again.

Thomas Crispus - Speaking of Sanctustube, have you told any foreigners about Sanctustube yet? They can watch all their local TV programs and movies for free, plus the TV shows and movies from every other country in the world, because we are an enlightened nation that has no copyright laws. By spreading awareness of Sanctustube abroad, you help Saintland's economy.

Ioannes Bebius - Thank you, Thomas, for reminding everybody once again how great Sanctustube is. As you know, my brother Matthaeus works for Sanctustube.

Iosue Galenus - Thank you for reminding me that Saintland's athletes are all amateurs. What is it like to compete internationally against professional athletes that are actually *gasp* paid *gasp* to play sports?

Ioannes Bebius - It is truly shameful that many of these foreign athletes are professionals. You should play sports for the love of the game, not the love of money. This is actually a major advantage for us, because all many of the athletes our Kingdom competes against internationally care about is money.

Thomas Crispus - Absolutely. I have traveled extensively abroad and the one thing that I notice about foreigners is that most of them tend to be greedy, selfish and wicked.

Iosue Galenus - That's all the time we have today. We will now go to our prime time broadcast from City Centre of the VIII Winter Olympics. None of our Kingdom's athletes were in action today. I want to thank Ioannes Bebius again for taking the time to talk with us. For Thomas Crispus, this is Iosue Galenus signing off from Central North America. The Kingdom of Saintland loses 9 to 2 to the home team. See you tomorrow for the Kingdom's next game against Byfugland. Tickets remain available at Royal Park in St. Petrus. Be sure to catch the SaintTrain to St. Petrus and buy some tickets. It is truly going to be a once in a lifetime experience.

At beautiful Almond Stadium in Vargas, Super-Llamaland, our Llamas proved they could stick with the top teams in the world as they edged third-ranked Yesopalitha 2-1 in extras thanks to a walk-off double in the tenth inning and timely clutch defense and pitching to limit the dominant Yesopalithans to a single run.

Evan Masorka started and pitched brilliantly, going seven perfect innings before stumbling badly in the eighth. His fastball hit triple digits for the first time since last June and he alternated the fastball with a nasty slider and sinker. Throwing in the occasional changeup enabled him to success tonight. Says Masorka: "I just pitched well tonight, and I hope to do it more."

The Llamanean Offense was stagnant for eight innings and found themselves in a tough stretch before recovering.

In the eighth inning, Masorka walked three to start the inning and got a fielder's choice to third on a slow ground ball. The Yesopalithan team took a 1-0 lead and Masorka gave up an infield single before leaving on the hook for a loss.

However, the Llamaland team may have been saved by Alex Carson, who got a pop-out and a strike-out to end the inning. In the ninth, Carson was then saved with a runner on third and nobody out when Chris Harder grabbed a flyball and then threw out the runner at home, causing the audience to erupt in cheers. Carson left for Nick Carter, who ended the inning uneventfully.

Down 1-0, the Llamas came alive with nobody on and two out. Alex Cameron started the quick rally with a single and Danny Mills doubled him to third. Chris Harder then ran the count to 0-2 before singling in Cameron to tie the game, which would progress to a tenth inning.

Nick Carter was flawless in the top of the tenth and Brett Rochester walked to start the game. Jake Addams then lifted a short hit into left field on a hit-and-run and ran to first while Rochester sprinted to third. Despite the warning of the third-base coach, Rochester continued to run and Addams advanced to second on the throw while Rochester slid into home safe to win the game 2-1.

Says Addams: "It was great, let's keep doing this against Yeso [palitha] and Cyborg [Holland]."
