The Tyranids are unavailable as the rules clearly state: 'No mega-destroyers'.
Plus, I think there are already enough Hive/Swarm races in the RP.

I would use the first 1, but you need to be able to mark out the parts of the galaxy and who they belong to. (Btw, Republic space (mine) would be close to the galactic core, just saying) And remwmber that every1 starts with 1 star system each.
