Year 2023 FAS season

Last season saw the Premier League turned on its head as perennial powerhouses like Arçon, Bugny, Les Alliés, and Gilley did not win either League title or the FAS Cup, therefore they were all denied a trip to the Charity Shield. In their stead, first timers Maystead and Pays de Croix will play in the nation's most charitable event. Maystead spent years in the lower divisions before coming up to the Premier League after the 2019 season. In just 3 short years, the Poppies gathered enough talent on the field and in the managerial box to raise the top flight trophy for the first time. Pays de Croix's path to the Shield was almost taken away from them, as the Saints were tied on points with Maystead at the end of the season; however, due to a higher goal difference the Poppies moved on and PDC were left stranded. That was until they steamrolled through FAS Cup to take that piece of silverware for the first time.

With widespread wildfires looming over the Saugeais National Forest, both teams have decided to donate their winnings to the relief effort being made to quell the spread.

So in review: Pays de Croix win their first ever Premier League title in a landslide, automatically qualifying for the TakilQuip Champions Cup as well as next season's Carity Shield. Maystead win their first ever FAS Cup championship and qualify once again to the Cygnus Cup and Charity Shield, as well as the Globe Cup along with Bugny FC and Arçon. In League 1, Westbay United gain entry into the Premier League for the first time by winning that league, and will enter next season's Series B Champions Cup along with Cherrywich, Montbenoit, and Trainswain.

Year 2024 FAS Season

Last season was another season of firsts. Pays de Croix won their first ever Premier League title in a landslide. This year, will they do enough to warrant Tito Moreno resigning, as he is in the last year of his contract? Maystead won their first ever FAS Cup, continuing the trend, but with so many players retiring, will this new batch of young recruits bring the Poppies back to the promised land? The Riverside Dolphins have had a rough and tumble past fives seasons, transitioning between the Premier League and League 1 three times. They are the odds-on favorites to win promotion back in to the top flight league, but fans are left wondering will this trend be the new norm.

The Charity Shield this year is back to having a multitude of sponsors that the teams will play for. Not only will the teams be playing for their respective charities, but all proceeds from the game will be split between the Saugeais Wildfire Prevention Fund and the Saugeais Armed Forces. Pays de Croix will be playing to support the regional Pays de Croix Archdiocese. Maystead will be playing for the Pediatric Leukemia Reseach Institute.

Pays de Croix finish off a spectacular season, winning every piece of silver there is to win in Saugeais. Opening the season with a dominant Charity Shield victory when it wasn't needed was a sign of things to come. Tito Moreno continued his legacy at Pays de Croix by re-writing the record books once again, scoring 34 goals (previous record - 32) to aide PDC's record goal scoring total of 85 on the season. And while the Saints had a couple of stumbling blocks in the FAS Cup, in the end they survived a 5-4 thriller to hoist the Cup for the second time in three years. While being officially labeled a "double", it doesn't hide the fact that Pays de Croix has established themselves as the new standard of excellence within the Saugeain football community.

Season 8

The Saugeais Rugby Union (SRU) Rugby Championship league is entering its eighth season of play. If you have never seen or heard of the league, now would be your best opportunity to, as they have the best team in the world currently playing in it. The Montbenoit Old Boys are coming off a third place finish and semi final bow out in last year's league, but in international competition, the Old Boys are the founders and sole members their own club: the only rugby squad to have won the International Rugby Union Championship twice. Considering they have been routinely mediocre in the past and haven't even won a domestic title ever, the Old Boys' thoughts certainly are focused on the Seasogs competiton. Josef de Jong, Old Boys eighth-man and Saugeain international, has praised the overall focus of the team, saying "while the league should be the top priority, the fact is we rally around international competition. And now with the added bonus of being a two time Seasogs champion, that puts even more pressure on us to succeed both domestically and internationally."

Year 2025 FAS season

Continuing the tradition of domestic firsts in the Saugeais Premier League, Pays de Croix is the first team ever to win every, single competition that it can in a single season. It stormed away with the League Cup, win an epic dogfight in the FAS Cup final against League 1 team Real Gilley, but the avalanche all started with the Charity Shield victory over Maystead first thing. Tito Moreno, Western Cuban international and single season scoring record holder, came out publicly in support of his squad, saying "the team has done everything we can domestically. I think it's time to start focusing on the new task at hand: the TakilQuip Champions Cup." Saugeain teams have floundered internationally for the past decade, so him coming out with this statement shook the Saints', and rest of the country by proxy, fans into a frenzy. Whether or not they go back to the land of champions remains to be seen this season.

As Pays de Croix took all honors last season, their opponent for the Charity Shield this year will be league runner up Royalwich. The Lions are headed by their captain, 35 year old midfielder Daniel Day, along with out of favor Saugeain international striker Turlough Bailey. The Saints and Moreno are hoping for another strong start to their season, while Royalwich are looking to find the slightest bit of an edge against their opponents, hoping to turn this exhibition into something meaningful during the season. Both squads are playing for the newly created National Fitness Initiative, dedicated to getting the youth of Saugeais up and active, encouraging them to participate in sport.

Season 9

Last's year's rugby league season saw it's two international entries, the Maystead Pride and the Gilley Giants, perform above expectations, with the Pride competing for the International League Cup after the group stage and the Giants playing for the Bowl after coming in second. Maystead could not rise up after being down 20-0 at halftime to Johnho from Darmen, but a third place finish after defeating the other Darmeni club Romanopolis Warriors was good enough retribution for the Pride.

Meanwhile, Gilley's path was much easier, taking little effort to defeat the Western Amstaad Kings from Cyborg Holland and Pomoria from Free South Califas to take the 2nd International League Bowl. The Giants are the second Saugeain team to bring home silverware from this event after the Bugny Axemen's pyrrhic victory to claim the League Shield in last year's competition.

FAS Domestic Restructuring

Hello, if you are reading this, you have a vested interest in the Saugeain domestic football league. We are very appreciative of your support. For all fans of the teams within the Saugeain football system, this is a must read regarding information on the new league wide changes that will take place next season. If you are not currently a fan of the Saugeais system, we'd like to ask you to please take the time to watch a few matches, and acclimate yourself to the proposed changes you are about to witness.

I. Pyramid Reformat

A. Domestic Leagues

Most important information first, I guess, as the Football Association of Saugeais (here on out referred to as the FAS) has decided that running four leagues concurrently with one another was not financially sound, especially with the sponsorship losses of both Bartewick Financial from League 1 and ChocoMilk from League 2 (ChocoMilk is still signed on to sponsor the FAS Cup). And with the 4th-tiered National League having no sponsor for the past few years, the league was hemorrhaging money, so much so that they would not be able to run a league at all next year, forcing the ten current teams that play there into independent no man's land. The FAS took the matter into emergency consideration, with the end result being a complete overhaul to the pyramid system. For the next season and many seasons thereafter, this is what the structure will look like.

Premier League - 12 teams
League 1 - 12 teams
League 2 - 18 teams

The Premier League remains unchanged in terms of number of teams, but Leagues 1 and 2 change entirely. League 1 will bump up to 12 teams, competing in 33 league matches (3 turns against each other), and will fight for now 2 promotion slots to get into the Premier League, while trying to stay away from the two permanent relegation spots as well. The top two teams from the former League 2 will make the jump up to League 1 to fill out number for the next season. Which means that League 2 will take on the entire allotment of 10 unattached teams for next season, ballooning their total up to 18, and will play a home and home schedule of 34 matches, and will compete for the two automatic promotion spots with no fear of relegation.

FAS chairman Sébastian Kamin was stated that "additional teams added into the system is a strong possibility in the future. All newly formed or amateur level teams wishing to participate in the Saugeain Leagues must submit the necessary paperwork and they will be admitted into League 2. At which time, the council will decide on how to reformat the team distribution, if there is a substantial amount of entrants."

B. FAS Cup

The FAS Cup will remain unchanged until such time were more teams are added into the system.

II. Sponsorships

As mentioned before, one of the main reasons for the pyramid restructure was the loss of primary league sponsorships. Bartewick Financial of Civil Citizenry and ChocoMilk of Erathore had taken away the rights to use their names in any league lower than the Premier League. But that left the lower leagues in a financial lurch. Since the dissolution of the National League, both Leagues 1 and 2 were left without any primary sponsorship for the upcoming season. Fearing the Saugeain system would fold into obscurity, an Arçon-based company Soundwave Electronics and Communications donated 25 million francs to the league offices with the wish that they would have their company as the primary sponsor for not one, but both leagues. The league offices were happy for the generous donation, and have been allowed the use of the name Soundwave Electronics and its logo for Leagues 1 and 2

The FAS Cup sponsorship is still within the hands of ChocoMilk, but the FAS board have come to the conclusion that if they are willing to withdraw their name's use from the league competition, it is only a matter of time before they take it away from the Cup competition as well. Therefore, this will be the final year that ChocoMilk will be sponsoring the FAS Cup, at which time the sponsor slot is free for the taking.

2026: Part 1

Another year filled with promise for some of the 42 Saugeain Football League teams, as the condensed pyramid and updated promotion/relegation clauses for this upcoming year is certain to generate more meaningful matches played throughout the season. For teams like Pays de Croix, Royalwich, and Bugny, the hunt for the coveted Champions Cup spots begin again, as only two teams will be able to go to the prestigious event. For Gilley and Les Alliés, though, just making it through a season without the fear of relegation would be a good start. Having dwelled near the cellar this past year, and with the second automatic relegation spot added, neither team wishes to be back in that position again.

After being so agonizingly close to promotion last season, both Montbenoit and Riverside are both looking to get back into the Premier League, as spot both teams feel they belong in. "We've been right there almost every year since we hit the drop 6 years ago," said Montbenoit midfielder Alpha Randal. "And with expanded spots opening up this year, I don't see why we can't get back into the Premier League."

For the second year in a row, the Charity Shield comes down to Pays de Croix and Royalwich. For Royalwich, it represents their second time in the contest, while for PDC, it is their fourth time overall in the last four seasons; in all three previous contests, Pays De Croix has come out the victor. The Saints and Moreno are hoping for another strong start to their season, claiming that they would like to "permanently own that plate." Royalwich are looking to find the slightest bit of an edge against their opponents, hoping to turn this exhibition into something meaningful during the season. Both squads are playing, once again, for the Saugeais National Fitness Initiative, dedicated to getting the youth of Saugeais up and active and encouraging them to participate in sport.

The first third of the season has been exactly what the status quo has been for the past few seasons: Pays de Croix and Royalwich battling it out for top of the league. However, Les Alliés have seemed to regain their footing after a horrible year previous, as they now sit in third place. Longview and Gilley have been dismal to say the least, as these former powerful clubs, sitting in or near the relegation zone, can only rely so much on home grown talent while everyone else around them scramble for overseas stars. But while the absence of incoming talent is a problem for some, many pundits think the exporting of talent will be just as much of a hindrance. Daley Hart and Vincent James, two of Saugeais' most prominent fixtures on the national team, were swept away by the Euran market just before the transfer window closed, their final destinations being the ever popular Bastion and Spartangrad over in FSSO. This could potentially spell disaster for the two clubs, as their lose a strong, offensive minded defender in Hart, and a human wall in James.

Looking at the early leaders for the Golden Boot award, one can never look to far to find Tito Moreno on the list. The Western Cuban international, while not on the record breaking pace he set just two seasons ago, has accumulated a fair 6 goals for himself so far. What is surprising about this list is that, we start to see to emergence of one of our more controversial neighbors crack into the list. Aureliano Sebastiani, a Branta Islander and forward for Royalwich, is level with Moreno at the top of the list. It is always nice to see a developing nation start to break into their own little niche in the world, and the SFL is always willing to let that happen, but the possibility of a Brantander winning the Golden Boot would certainly cause shockwaves throughout the nation. We'll be keeping an eye on Sebastiani and, by proxy, the entirety of Branta Island.

And finally, assumedly feeling guilty for taking two of Saugeais star players, one of the Euran clubs has offered Pays de Croix a chance to train one of their rising stars for the season. James Brecon, a forward for the club Revolutionaries in FSSO, has moved over for a season long loan spell just after the start of the season. Coming off a hamstring injury that sidelined him for 6 weeks, he is ready to start for the Saints, as they have switched to a 4-3-3 to accommodate the new addition. "It'll be hard now that there are three strikers vying for goals," said Tito Moreno. "But at the same time, both myself and John Miles can help him ease into his role as a forward, knowing what tot do and where to be in certain situations." While some say the loan isn't beneficial to the club, Brecon has stated that the move would help his knowledge of the game, and how it is played outside of his country. "To learn with Tito and John is a great honor. Two stars for their own nations, why wouldn't I relish this opportunity?"

2026: Part 3

It has been a rough and tumble couple of months. Pays de Croix have opened up a sizable gap at the top of the Premier League, while Les Alliés have only managed one measly win over the ten game stretch, dropping them all the way down from 3rd to 9th. On the flip side of the Titans, Gilley FC have shot up the ranks to second place now, gaining 21 points over the same stretch. It looks to be a battle for second place at the moment, but with 8 teams within 7 points of each other and with 18 matches to go, it's anyone's race.

Tito Moreno appeared to be in the lead for the Golden Boot, but a strong charge from Aureliano Sebastiani of Royalwich has given him the lead, 12 goals to 10. Lyndon Crespo of Walldrew deserves mention at third place, scoring 10 goals as well, but in more matches.

Elsewhere in the Football League, Bota Guerre appear to be destined to get back into the Premier League, right now 16 points ahead of fellow promotion zoner Riverside. 2027: Part 1

With little to show for in the transfer market (and little to cheer about in any of the continental competitions), the domestic leagues kick back off with a bang in the form of the Charity Shield. In what has now become a one-sided affair, Pays de Croix are back as the 4 time defending champions of the shield, taking on Royalwich in what is the third straight Charity Shield with this exact matchup. With Tito Moreno sticking around for yet another year with the Saints, many fans are wishing for him to finish out his illustrious career with the squad, as his arrival at Peugeot Road has led to nothing but success, garnering 3 Premier League titles and 2 FAS Cups. Many speculated that he would've been off to greener pastures by this point in his career, but it must be his love of the club, the nation, or both that have made him decide to stay.

Meanwhile at Royalwich, the club have been experiencing some success within their own right. With a league title and 2 FAS Cups within that same timeframe, the Lions have risen to the ranks of perennial heirs to the throne. Royalwich also has an international strike to boast, one Aureliano Sebastiani from neighbors Branta Island. Sebastiani took home the Golden Boot in just his first year in the Saugeais leagues and is proving to be the next big international influence in the Premier League, enough to rival the celebrity of Moreno. But will it lead Royalwich back to the top of the mountain?

Both squads are playing, once again, for the Saugeais National Fitness Initiative, dedicated to getting the youth of Saugeais up and active and encouraging them to participate in sport.
