Baptism of Fire 50

Welcome to the 50th Baptism of Fire, held for this historic edition in the Rushmori nation of Saugeais and the Esportivan nation of Apox. This is the first time either of us have hosted a Baptism of Fire, although Saugeais has previously hosted Cup of Harmony 47 and World Cup 60. For Apox, this is his first foray into hosting WCC events.

So you've signed up for this event, but what do you actually do, when taking part in a competition?

Well first of all, you need to post a roster, with some examples of previous nation's BoF rosters being found here (all from my own BoF): Short Roster, More in depth, Very comprehensive. Once you've posted you're roster, you need to let people know what they are allowed to "RP" about should they "RP" before you. IN NSSports, we use a set of "RP Permissions" for this. A template for these permissions goes as such:

Code: Select all
I give my opponent permission to:
Choose my goalscorers: Y/N
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
Give my players yellow cards: Y/N
Give my players red cards: Y/N
Give injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N

Godmodding, for those who don't know, is a way in which something is RPed that would not normally occur, for example, to godmod a scoring event make be something such as: "The player kicked the ball towards the net, whereupon it hit a nearby flock of goose, was blown off course by a freak gust of wind, bounced off a cat that was running around on the pitch, and then went into the back of the net".

RP
Roleplay, or RP as it is commonly referred to, is how we describe a match that happens, although the RP doesn't have to be about the match in question at all. By RPing, you gain an RP bonus depending on how good it is. This RP bonus then makes it more likely for you to win, but doesn't guarantee a win. Roleplays can take many forms, from newspaper articles to character roleplays to full on story lines. The sky is the limit.

In this tournament, RP's will be graded from 1-3, and you will be expected to adhere to your opponents RP permission which will be found in their roster posts.

Should you need any help, this link: Guide to Sports Roleplaying is very helpful, and you can TG either host with any questions, we'll be happy to help.

Have a great tournament, and we hope to see you around in future tournaments to come here on NSSports!

Country History

Apox was founded 568 years ago by migrated from the north of our continent in Esportiva, with a large influx of people coming from Licentiapacisterra. THe capital Dwile was established in 14 A.T (Apoxian Time) and has been the cultural centre every since. After a civil war and a war against Cyborg Holland, for lands to the south called Olfa, Apox in it's current form was established in the late 460's A.T. Since then, we have thrived relative peace and freedom, with the our semi-democratic state watching over. The current leader is John Ashburton, representing the Apox National Party, and he is head of a coalition government, which holded over two thirds of the seats in the Apoxian Central Hall, our place of government.

Transportation

Apox has a quite varied road system, with the roads around Dwile being very well maintained, but with the roads further away often being one-track and almost dirt paths. However, our railway system, the Apox National Railway is a very good service, and is one of the most reliable railways in Esportiva. Our four main airports Dwile Capital Airport, Mandon District Airport (just outside Dwile), Gwinevra Airport and Urbanista Regional Airport are xpread out over the country and have flights from many countries.

Accomodation and Currency

All the host towns and cities have a variety of hotels of varying standard to stay at, including the award winning, 5 star Beverly Mountaintop hotel in Dwile. The currency is the chuck, and is represented with a normal £ sign. It trades quite well, at 1.49 to the dollar on average.

Sport

Sport is a key part of Apox, with football being the national sport. The Apox National League is in its 4th season, with a new second league now added. When you consider that Apox are now ranked 47th in the KPB rankings, it shows you that our rapidly improving infrastructure is here to stay, and ready to be a part of world football. The other main sports in Apox are rugby union and cricket, with squash and sailing also being minority sports.

Group 5 venues
Dwile Stadium, Dwile (capacity 54,000) home to Issington F.C
Issington F.C have recently moved into this stadium after the collapse and subsequent take-over of Dwile Central. Situated near to the river, the stadium is very easily accessible.
Image

The HP Award Stadium, Gwinevra (capacity 28,000) temporary stadium
One of the temporary stadiums built for the CE and hopefully for the Baptism of Fire should we host that, The HP Award stadium was designed by radicalist Johannes Blake, who won the award after which the stadium is named.
Image

Group 6 venues
The Royal Stadium, Dwile (capacity 71,000)
The pride and joy of Apox, this stadium only gets to host the biggest of events.
Image

Village Green, Barbury (capactiy 32,000) home to Barbury Town
Completely renovated, the Village Green is now a stylish and modern stadium with all the necessary features, a big step up from the antiquated old stadium it used to be.
Image

Group 7 venues
The APX Sports Stadium, Dwile (capacity 56,000) home to Dwile Warriors
The most prestigious domestic football ground in the country, the APX Sports Stadium a great fan favourite, with a spectacular atmosphere within.
Image

The JK Scott Memorial Stadium, Exton (capacity 27,500) temporary stadium
Originally intended to be Exton F.C's renovated stadium, Exton weren't able to afford the running costs after they were relegated. As a result, the JK Scott Memorial stadium will be turned into a resevoir after the BoF as it is sunken into the ground.
Image

Group 8 venues
The Barbaria, Gwinevra (capacity 38,000) home to Gwinevra Barbarians
Built in Gwinevra in 533, this is one of the oldest stadiums in Apox, and it is always loud, the stadium naturally amplifying the cries of the fans.
Image

Lime Ground, Urbanista (capacity 32,000) home to Urbanista
The Lime Ground is said to be the spiritual home of Urbanista for some, a magnificent building.

A hearty welcome to all the teams that have entered into the 50th Baptism of Fire. This is a little pamphlet all about Saugeais. If your team is in Groups 1 through 4, this is mostly likely required reading. If your team is in Groups 5 through 8, consult Apox’s information.

Background

Back in the middle of the 12th century, Landry, Lord of Joux, decided to found and fund an abbey in the upper valley of what is now Arçon. He gave land to Humbert, Archbishop of Besançon, who invited monks from Saint-Maurice-d'Agaune (Valais/Wallis, Switzerland) to settle there. The monks came with colonels from the Grishuns and Savoy, who brought their local languages which were still widely used in the valley. The colonels met the local hermit Benoît, and the abbey was named after him. A monk called Norduin built the abbey, which was placed under St. Colomban's rule. The abbey remained under the control of the Lords of Joux. In 1508, the system of commende was established, by which the abbots percieved a rent but did not live in the abbey. The most famous of these commendataire abbots was Ferry Carondelet, a former councillor of Emperor Charles V fond of the Italian Renaissance, who richly decorated the abbey. The abbey was eventually closed in 1723.

In 1947, the nation was formally founded with president George Pourchet appointed as the first president of the Republic. After a fairly quiet ruling period, the President died in 1968, with his wife Gabrielle taking over for himt, helping the parish priest to preserve the abbey. In 1972, a festival was organized in order to raise funds for the abbey preservation. During the lunch, Gabrielle Pourchet was officially elected by acclamation President of the Free Republic of Saugeais for life.

In 2010, the passing of Gabrielle saw the first time a new democratic election was put into place. The first such election resulted in François Gardin as the new President of the land. His rule will be remembered by the ups and downs in attitude over the treatment of his citizens. Varying from complete tyrant to reformed left wing politician, his tenure as the Saugeain president was by far the most eventful. In 2019, after many years of rule, Gardin was elected out of office by upstart congressman Thomas Bouvier. Bouvier's first act as president was to go after the failing economy. He immediately turned around the failing economy into one of the richest in the Rushmore nation.

Saugeais is a continuously developing nation rich in cultural diversity, with Cotdelapomais making up 20% of the national ethnic groups (the majority of non-native Saugeais). Being a nation on the coast, especially with capital Montbenoit right on the water, the nation is no stranger to the aforementioned tourists, who like to frequent the beaches on the shores of Lake Branta. Many of the host cities have excellent shopping districts, and great transportation systems to easily move visitors from the residential areas to the various match sites, shopping malls, etc. and back again. The weather can and will be erratic at times, switching from bright and sunny to wet and windy in the matter of minutes along the coastal towns. Tornadoes have been known to pop up every now and then in the southeastern part of the country, drastically affecting game play for one of the local clubs, who opt to play through these storms.

Transportation
Saugeais has a well developed infrastructure, linking each major city (which includes the host cities) via the Saugeais International Highway. Within each city runs their own independently run public transportation, ranging from buses to trolleys, even ferries in the case of Montbenoit’s bay area location. Taxis are plentiful should you require one whilst it is not anticipated that many will use hire cars during the finals.

Accommodations and Entertainment
Tourism in Saugeais has always been one of its main selling points, Visitors can enjoy an abundance of places to stay, from the five star hotels like the Grand Verona, to the local bed and breakfasts. Entertainment is certainly not lacking within the nation, with many towns celebrating their local music scene on a daily basis, be it through the many clubs in the areas or if you wish to sit down in Bugny’s newly constructed Opera House and take in some of the world’s most beautiful plays. Theatres and art galleries are common, and right now the National Institute of Art in downtown Montbenoit has a special gallery of wood carvings from nationally recognized artist Claude Battier.

Language and Currency
Probably the easiest transition over from most worldly nations is the (virtual) absence of a language barrier. English is spoken widely across the nation, and is the de facto national language. French is starting to be spoken by a greater percentage of the population, in no small part to the Cotdelpomais expatriates living in the northern part of the country. But if you are not able to speak either language and you are coming in to watch the games, translators will be at your service throughout all the host cities and stadiums to ease your stay here.

The currenct used in Saugeais is the franc, denoted by the sign “₣”. The Saugeain Franc has been inflated due to financial crisis over the years, but has started to get back to normal level, albeit slowly. Compared to the universal dollar, the franc in exchange is roughly 1 to 3, meaning whatever costs $1 would be equal to 3 francs here.

Weather
Saugeais has varying degrees of weather, ranging from hot and sunny, to cold and rainy; sometimes extreme weather conditions (ie. tornadoes) could appear, especially in the Two Rivers region. Despite being near Lake Branta, Montbenoit is home so some of the nicest weather in the country, perpetually being 80°F and sunny. As you move inland, there isn’t much change in temperature, until you get towards the upper portion of the country (around the Arçon region). Due to the National Forest encompassing the northeast region, temperatures will be much cooler. We advise you to be prepared in case your team is suddenly moving from warm to cool regions and vice versa.

Sport
Saugeais has long since considered football to be the national sport, having boasted that most of its 90 million citizens either watch or participate in leagues all throughout the year. The Saugeais Football Association, being headed by the Rumikola Premier League, is steadily growing to be one of the top football associations in the world, with teams like Pays De Croix and Maystead leading the charge. The national baseball team has fared well in international competitions, reaching the knockout stages in every single World Baseball Classic entered and finishing runners-up twice. The Rugby League and Union teams have also been a rising power in the world, taking 3rd place once in a League World Cup and ending up in the quarterfinals numerous times among both codes.

Group 1 venues

(cap. 68,500)
Image

The Football Association of Saugeais is based out of Stade de Montagne, located smack in the middle of the capital, Montbenoit. The stadium is also home to local Premier League side, Montbenoit FC, and both have used the 68,500 all seater since its construction before World Cup 53. The stadium has hosted many of the big matches, both domestically (in Premier League and FAS Cup action) and internationally against various big name opponents. The stadium has been expanded numerous times to coincide with the continual growth of the national team, reaching its current capacity right before co-hosting the 47th Cup of Harmony. The recently rechristened Stade Amaechi Olsen will be the focal point of the Saugeain section of the tournament, as it will host the Final match as well as several Group 1 matches.

Image

(cap. 37,550)
Image

Ville-DuPont, a very quaint, rustic town located near the northeastern edge of the country. Situated on the northern edge of the Saugeais National Forest, the Ville-DuPont economy is centered around logging, slowly becoming the national leader of lumber production and exports. The stadium they will be in is Hawkshead Point, a 37,550 all-seater venue that has seen its fair share of joy and sorrow in the past 20 years. The latter has also led to the decline of tourism drawn to the area because of football. With the arrival of the World Cup crowd, the amount of revenue the matches and tourism bring will most definitely bring upgrades to the local team and the stadium.

  • Matches listed first will play at Stade Amaechi Olsen.
  • Matches listed second will play at Hawkshead Point.

Group 2 venues

Image

(cap. 39,450)
Image

In the industrial city of Metalton, several visiting teams will play at the high-tech Tapandie Stadium. Able to hold an expanded 39,450 fans, the stadium boasts that it has the cleanest pitch in all the world, as rarely has there ever been pock marks or divots caused by slides; not even browned grass has shown up on the pitch. It really is the perfect playing field. Outside of football, Metalton has become one of the fastest growing cities in the country, with its ever expanding mining, and subsequent iron works, industries. The Metalton Domestic Iron Works Foundry is the largest producer of iron in the country, forging iron for everything from I-beams to truck chassis.

Image

(cap. 49,600)

Old - built in 1950. Forest - It’s located on the edge of the Saugeais National Forest. Stadium - it’s a stadium. This venue in Bugny has been the home of Bugny FC since the team’s founding, and both them and the stadium have had many major changes over the years. Gone are the days of wooden bleachers, opting now for a more modernized bowl-and-roof look. The ultras, however, are still rather rabid about their team, and are said to make plenty of appearances during this World Cup. The FA has been cracking down on incidents leading up to this World Cup, but visiting fans are asked to exercise caution when attending games at the Old Forest.

  • Matches listed first will play at Tapandie Stadium.
  • Matches listed second will play at Old Forest Stadium.

Group 3 venues

Image

(cap. 37,500)

Longview is situated in the Two Rivers region of Saugeais, and as such is known for plenty of violent weather activity. This is partly the reason one local football team is called the “Tornadoes”. Circle Stadium in itself is not a bad venue: sturdy design, as well as rounded roofs, have been specially installed for the chance of sudden inclimate weather in the area. Add the fact that it has the best VIP boxes in the Premier League, and any visiting dignitary or rich fellow can watch the match in style.

Image

(cap. 47,850)
Image

Another stadium receiving a capacity upgrade, Pitape Stadium in Gilley is now at 47,850 seats. Both touchline stands received a new third level addition during these upgrades, and as a result the roof has now gone on to resemble a wave pattern than just being flat all the way across. Added concession stands, souvenir shops, bathrooms, not to mention cozier press and VIP boxes, have made this stadium one of the most modern venues for this entire tournament. Pitape was one of the host venues during Saugeais’ Copa Rushmori tenure, and it still remains as one of the most fan-friendly atmospheres in all of the Premier League

  • Matches listed first will play at Circle Stadium.
  • Matches listed second will play at Pitape Stadium.

Group 4 venues

Image

(cap. 53,450)
Image

A name change and a facelift was what this aging stadium needed in time for the 60th World Cup. Home to the Premier League powerhouse Titans, the World Cup Park boasts 53,450 seats, making it the second largest venue in Saugeais. It also was been retrofitted with new LED videoboards (replacing the old dot-matrix systems), better sound systems, more concessions, bathrooms, etc. all in time for when Saugeais hosted the World Cup, as well as for the Titans’ matches.

Image

(cap. 51,000)
Image

Aside from being home to the Arçon football team, Arrowpoint Place is also the main track and field venue for Olympic delegation of Saugeais. Located on the outskirts of the city, this 51,000 capacity venue has hosted numerous national college meets and trial days for many aspiring track and field stars. “The Point” is also a secondary home for the national team. The stadium, like the one in Bugny is located just a couple miles away from the Saugeais National Forest, which covers 10% of the total land area of the nation, and as such lumbering is one of the city’s main source of income.

  • Matches listed first will play at World Cup Park.
  • Matches listed second will play at Arrowpoint Place.

We here at the Saugeais Tourism Board wish you all the best during your time in Saugeais, and also wish your team the best of luck in the Baptism of Fire!

Strong attack and defence but a very weak midfield, led by the experienced Tim Chasterty. Average goalkeeper who is great against shots from inside the box but somewhat fails when needing to save a long shot. The Palascions always try to play with flair and entertain the crowd with skill moves.

The excitement is brewing. Anticipation and Hope is rising. A whole nation will band together and sing the anthems. The trophy and Baptism of Fire Championship shall come to Powersith.

UPDATE POWERSITH GETS GROUP AND SCHEDULE!

Powersith has been drawn into a difficult group. The nations here are have very good teams. Still, that doesn't intimidate us as we will fight to win.

Group 5
Amelio
Cap-Hibou
Powersith
Northern Artic Islands
Paradystopia

Schedule:
MD1: VS Northern Arctic Islands*
MD2: VS Paradystopia*
MD3: VS Amelio*
MD4: VS Cap-Hibou*
MD5: Break

*-All games at a neutral site.

Manager William Thomasson said this after getting the group and schedule, "It won't be easy that's for sure. However our team has been training hard for this tournament. We want to make a great impression into the football world here. I can already see lots of close matches. But, I do trust my team to pull forward, think together, play hard, and win. As I've seen from the training, we are ready to play this group. My players play like soldiers on a battlefield, coordinated, smart, decisive, and they are like a band of brothers."

Goalkeeper and captain David de Phillips replied saying, "The boss is right, we are like a well-oiled machine. We prepared ourselves for every situation that can happen. We are like a band of brothers. I wish good luck to all the teams, and lets have a safe, fair, and outstanding tournament!"

The squad opens the group stage vs Northern Arctic Islands on December 16.

New Ecopia International was established by Comoros Sanchez in 1890 to introduce The Democratic Republic of New Ecopia to the art of soccer which consisted of twenty two of the nations best athletes who played there first match but against each other as NEI 1st XI and NEI 2nd XI with a final score of 3-3 at Ecopia Park.

Over the years New Ecopia International has shown the world a new art of soccer of Densetsu-tekina kōsei which had lead them to countless victories hence giving them legendary status in the world of soccer. Also New Ecopia International had produced legendary soccer players such as Kikio Niro, Antoine Lefèvre, Kenoyi Mikhail and Kenneth Southampton who still plays for New Ecopia International ever since they have started in 2002 at the age of 16.

Today, New Ecopia International is working on a new project, the aim is to pass down the Densetsu-tekina kōsei tradition to junior soccer prodigies within the nation and around the world to produce an new breed of soccer legends to the world.

We are a proud supporter of the RMA Foundation.

The Federation of Cap-Hibou: Baptism of Fire 50 Squad and Information

Cap-Hibou is a nation that has a population of 60 million. Although it's name is french, most people speak either the local dialect, Owlatian, or Spanish. The population is mostly made up of 40 million giant owl species, and 20 million humans. Cap-Hibou is located in Rushmore, has close ties with Sicoutimont, and has a warm climate, being located right on the sea. These brave players have stepped forward to represent the national tallonball (OOC Note: In Cap-Hibou, football is referred to as tallonball) team at the 50th Baptism of Iron.

Tragedy Shocks Tyrants: Team Plane Crashes

Tyrants is in shock today after the Tyrants National Football Team's plane crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 6 members of the team. Our Dearest Leader put out a statement early this morning:

I am dearly saddened and shocked by the events that have transpired today, and will be launching a full and public inquiry into the causes of this accident. I have spoken to the families of those affected and am on my way to meet the survivors in hospital. Unfortunatly, infomation is limited and not all of the bodies have been recovered. However, I can say that Tyrants will never forget those brave men.
Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is scheduled for 1 fall, and is a Dixieland match!

OFFICIAL SKARAKIAN SPORTING NEWS

Baptism of Fire squad announced!

Earlier today, the Skarakian National Football Team's coach- Cristof Laut- announced the team going into the 50th Baptism of fire tournament.

"I really think we have a strong squad." Said the coach, "It'll be interesting to see how we do on an international stage."

The news comes a day after the Skarakian Lacrosse Team won their first international fixture, and the football team is looking to follow up on that victory. With a rather young team going into this competition, the nation is wondering how they will fare against more skillful opponents.

"I think we can do well, and maybe surprise our people." Captain Matthew Ward said, "I'm not promising miracles, but I hope I can give our people something to be proud of."

With that said, let's look at the roster coming into the competition.

Starting:
GK: Steven Adler (#1)
RB: Robert Jensen(#14)
CB: Adam Barth(#21)
CB: Phillip Bayer(#32)
LB: Antone Faust(#30)
DM: Anthony Roberts (#24)
DM: Jacob Smith (#10)
CM: Matthew Ward (C) (#20)

RB: Christian Thorsen(#12)
CB: Toni Koch (#11)
DM: Snorri Townsend (#23)
CM: Bastian Hollander (#18)

With the roster, Coach Laut has decided to run a 4-2-3-1 which looks like this:
---------GK---------
-RB--CB---CB--LB-
-----DM----DM-----
-RM----CM-----LM-
---------ST---------

The nation is bustling with excitement, and hoping for the best to come out of this. Go Eagles! Skarakia is watching!

Amelio National Stadium

Amelio to the Baptism of Fire 50!
By: Tony Riscoli
Amelian Chronicle
Today, the national football squad of Amelio was recently released and the line up looks strong. This is our first and last Baptism of Fire. Why the last you may ask? Because only new nations that never did a World Cup before can join the BoF, so we only have one shot. We can go far into the tournament with weapons like Nello Fantoni and Sebastian Bugatti. So here is how the WC works, new nations are unranked, so they all play in the BoF, the higher place finish the more of a likely hood that said team will do good in the WC. Our goal as a team is to make it to playoffs at least so we can start our WC adventure with a little bit of points, because that is important in the WC. Now is the time, the schedule will soon be released and we will find out who will we be facing. We also just found out that our home stadium is Amelio National Stadium (capacity 100,000) located in Vitali, Amelio. We will always update you with the latest news so stay tuned and keep reading the Amelian Chronicle.

Baptism of Fire Announcement

Both Apox and I would like for you participating nations to please cut back on posting your stadium information, as you will not be playing in any of them. The Baptism of Fire matches will take place in either Apox's or my own predetermined stadiums.

For Groups 1 thru 4, I have posted information on where you will be playing in my above designated post. It would be prudent of you to have a look at that before any further posts.

Thank you.

San Potato BoF 50 Squad
San Potato National Football Team's coach, Gary Hardaway has finally announced their squad for the 50th Baptism of Fire.

Goalkeeper:David Johnson (28 years old, 6'6)VC number1
Defenders
RWB: Jonny Fields (23 years old, 5'10) number14
CB: Patrick Edwards (31 years old, 6'1)number 2
CB:David Richard Mbah a Moute (21 years old, 6'0)number 3
LWB:Larry Fields(25 years old,6'1)number 15

LM: Wayne King(22 years old,5'7)number 10
CM:Devin James(25 years old,5'8)number 16
RM: Dwight Brown(24 years old, 6'0) Captain. number 6
CAM:Antonio Bryant(28 years old,5'5)number 8

Forwards
ST:Landry Shearer(21 years old,6'1) number 9
ST:Joe Johnson(22 years old,5'7) number 7

Substitutes
GK:Manny Anderson(19 years old,6'0)
CB:Daequan Mbenga(30 years old,6'8)

RM: Shawn Douglas-Roberts(28 years old,6'1)
ST:Tony Allen(32 years old,6'0)
ST:Dan Randolph(29 years old,6'6)

The crusaders are known for their amazing quick paced passing and amazing plays in the injury time.David Johnson is a known penalty stopper, being only scored 10 times out of 45 attempts. The Fields brothers can use their amazing pace to attack down the flanks. Jonny is the better passer and crosser while Larry can penetrate through the opposition. Edwards and Mbah a Moute are bulky and strong, being very hard to pass by.

The midfield is by far the best part of the crusaders offense. Dwight Brown is the playmaker. With amazing sight and awareness, he is always able to find Johnson,Shearer and the occasional Bryant for the easy goal. King and James help out in the build up.Donaldson has amazing tackling and long passing ability also makes him a threat in starting the play. With amazing jumping ability,he always seems to win the headers even when he is only 5'11.He is also the team's free kick taker, with amazing power on both his feet.

Shearer is amazing at winning headers and his amazing accuracy makes him a threat for set pieces. His ability to get open also helps out as he can easily find his way to get open.Joe Johnson has amazing dribbling and speed.Combined with amazing accuracy, once he gets past, you have to hope that your goalkeeper can stop him.

I give my opponent permission to:
Choose my goalscorers: Y
Godmod scoring events: Y
Give my players yellow cards: Y *2 only*
Give my players red cards: N
Give injuries to my players: Y,but injury span max is 1 game
Godmod injuries to my players: N
Godmod other events: Y

Darknesssssss selects its football players like it drafts into the military - it steals children from their homes and trains them at birth to do one thing only - play football. As such, the players have no personalities and are known by their Darknesssssss bar code numbers (because we bar code all our citizens, too). The players are known by the last three letters of their code. As for Steve Miller, he didn't like his code because it may or may not have a naughty word as the last three letters, so he changed it. Darknesssssss is looking into possible "solutions" to this as we speak.

Style modifier: +4

I give my opponent permission to:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
Give my players yellow cards: Yes.
Give my players red cards: Yes, but one per game max
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes, but don't go too crazy
Godmod other events: Yes, but don't go too crazy.

Secundus Kasius' Roster

Postby Secundus Kasius » Fri Dec 14, 2012 2:25 pm

The Kasian National Squad
Sponsored by Colomba

Whilst football is a traditional sport of Secundus Kasius- though the rules are often hotly debated – it was only recently that an official international team was formed. This is mostly due to the common people being 'encouraged' to take jobs which benefit the people (aka the government) rather than entertaining the masses. Instead football is viewed mostly as a hobby, and those on the few national teams also hold down full-time jobs in industry. Football is also played by the elite of Secundus Kasius, who of course have no need for other jobs - however, the sport they play is much more gentile than the rough-and-tumble experienced on the pitches of the majority of the nation. A few months ago the Kasian squad made their international début in AOCAF 38, making a promising start although ultimately failing to pass through the first round. However, the fire had then been lit in the hearts of players and fans alike, and Secundus Kasius is here again to have another go!

Sponsor: Colomba Beverages

During AOCAF, the Haxtes family – 'uniters' of Secundus Kasius – were wary of risking any money on a national first, and awarded Colomba Beverages the broadcasting rights for all national sports this year. This was something they later come to regret as televised sport spread through the nation like wildfire, and Colomba's profits soared. This time round the manufacturers of produces such as Caffee and Spike are being careful not to tread too heavily upon the toes of the Haxtes, in case their licence (and their lives) are reclaimed in the name of Secundus Kasius. They will be providing 'live' coverage for the airwaves, and are also re-installing the big screens in Nexus Borough Square so people may watch (and spend) 'as a community'.

Manager: Ravion Victus

The success of the Kasian national team in the hearts of Secundus Kasius saved the life of Sir Victus, after he lost his position as Minister of Cultural Affairs after a shocking scandal. While recently he has begun to make a study of tactics and training regimes, his focus is still ensuring the squad do not embarrass themselves (physically or culturally) whilst under the public scrutiny – it would literally be more than his life is worth, were something to happen. A football enthusiast, he is well versed in all forms of Kasian and international rules, and his recent efforts have been geared towards ensuring the team all know the acceptable gameplay styles for international matches. Whilst Victus sees himself as a fair manager, he has the inborn prejudices of the Kasian nobility, and he is much more comfortable dealing with those nearer his social status, and when possible he will side with them.

Mascot: Milly Guilder

Milly leapt to accidental fame after appearing on the 9am news, rooting for Secundus Kasius to win. She is small, blonde, and criminally sweet – and she knows it. A very intelligent 8yr old, she is well-versed in the art of getting what she wants, and currently that is adoration. Shortly after her appearance she was hired by Colomba to shoot a few commercials, and since then it's almost impossible to see any footage of the international team without seeing Milly alongside them.

The Starting Squad 3-4-3 formation

Goalkeeper

Name: Freddy Arkwright
Freddy "Brick" Arkwright has been a miner for as long as anyone can remember, and he has the musculature to show it. Whilst not particularly agile, his bulk and seemingly infinite pain threshold allow him to block most attempts merely by standing in the way. It has also been suggested (though not to his face) that he was relegated to the goalkeeper position after maiming another player during a nasty tackle - these rumours, whilst never proven, can make Freddy an intimidating figure to meet when trying to score, especially after multiple attempts to attack players who slip the ball past him.

Defense

Name: Johnny Hall
Johnny's day job is a reporter for the Daily Dove, one of Secundus Kasius' national newspapers. Upon his editor discovering Johnny played football as a kid, he was quickly given leave and handed a suitcase, so he could cover events from within the action of the AOCAF. Now he has a secure job as an international sports journalist, and though it can be stressful he is very good at keeping his nerve in most situations. What Johnny lacks in endurance he makes up for in speed and an uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time - he is not above a few kicks towards the shins when he can be sure the referee isn't watching.

Name: Hayden Jones [Captain]
Mr Jones is a physical education teacher, and to the children, his word is *law*. An imposing figure, he is regarded as one of the best defenders known to the nation - he is relentless when it comes to reclaiming the ball. The rules are very important to him, and any attempt to break them, by either his team or the opponents, will be met with very strong opposition. You can be certain that, back in Nexus High, there will be a group of schoolchildren eagerly cheering on their teacher from the classroom.

Name: Potenta Callidus
A member of the nobility who believe football is an acceptable pastime, Miss Callidus is an impressionable young lady with a desire to win. Sir Victus goes to great efforts to keep her from the more vocal male members of the team, but some of the women are just as bad, and from her recent vocabulary it is clear he's fighting a losing battle. Alongside her language, Potenta's play style is also adapting, with her usual polite taps turning into fullblown (and surprisingly effective) tackles and the occasional dive thrown in for good measure, now she's learnt people will not always just give her what she wants.

Midfielders

Name: Andy Harris
A young lad, Mr Harris' skills at chemistry found him a job working pharmaceuticals from a relatively early age. The time spent in the labs meant Andy needed a way to blow off some steam, and football was his answer. The fumes from the drugs he works with all day (Secundus Kasius is not known for its safety standards) mean Andy is not the most healthy individual, but he moves with an eerie and fragile speed upon the pitch.

Name: Quintos Serpa
Quintos is of the opinion that seeing the world is dreadfully fashionable, and as such he trained and trained to be part of the starting squad. Whilst many may mistake him for just another fop, he is actually rather intelligent and this shows through on the pitch. He's studied previous matches from all over the region, and though not the most physically fit on the field, his mental agility more than makes up for this and he is often found where he is needed most. Quintos does not have the endurance to sprint about the pitch all match, and is instead used as an interim for passes – he is surprisingly accurate with a ball.

Name: Laura Jackson
Laura cringes inwardly when people learn of her job – she works as a lion tamer for her local zoo, and the jokes are endless. She is one of the team's powerhouses, with a strong tackle and a good right foot. However, she is very independent, and will often miss chances if they involve a substantial amount of teamwork. Another highly competent player for a national team, Laura is known to be sturdy, reliable, and nigh impossible to knock down...all important traits in her profession.

Name: Castus Caudex
Sir Castus is not the most intelligent of men, and it shows. When his parents noticed his lack of spark, they instead enrolled him in an intense physical training course run by one of the Haxtes themselves (admittedly a distant relative). After years of this regime, the man is built like a brick wall, yet surprisingly agile for his stature. Caudex struggles when he is left alone on the pitch, but when he has other team-mates to help lead his actions he is a valuable member of the squad.

Forwards

Name: Ben Turner (2 goals at international level)
Speed is the name of Ben's game, both in his professional role as a paramedic but also on the pitch. One of his major assets is his ability to patch up players so they can play, in the likely event of a dressing room punch-up. Wary of injuries himself, he can be a very cautious player, but when he is able to take a shot, it is more often than not upon target.

Name: Gallus Haxtes (2 goals at international level)
A member of the Haxtes family, rulers of Secundus Kasius, Gallus is shown a lot of respect upon the pitch when playing on Kasian turf. Unfortunately this does not reflect his ability, and he is often considered (in very quiet tones) to be a liability to the team's chances. A black sheep within his own family, Gallus tries his hardest to integrate himself with the rest of the players, but most avoid him either because of his status within Secundus Kasius, or the views of the rest of the Haxtes family. Gallus is used to people giving way and letting him score rather than directly challenging him, so expect tantrums when things inevitably don't go his way. (A brief note on naming - the Haxtes family is the head family of Secundus Kasius, and as such Gallus would never be referred to as "Haxtes" in any reports, to do so would imply Haxtes Sicara, Unifier of Secundus Kasius, was being mentioned!)

Name: Ed Holt (4 goals at international level)
The face of football in Secundus Kasius, Ed Holt – publicity chaser extraordinaire - is expected to deliver a fair few goals this tournament. Normally a chef for a high-class restaurant, Holt is hanging up his apron to represent his country on a different field. His love for football began when he started an outreach program for Kasian kids as a publicity stunt, but soon the club became the highlight of his life. Ed knows the media, and knows the best way to get his name heard is to focus on scoring goals and being seen – sometimes resorting to showboating or dirty tactics in a last-ditch effort to be the centre of attention.

Substitutes

Little is known of the Kasian substitutes other than their names and professions - why should the Kasians care for them if they didn't make the starting squad? However, they have also been granted a leave of absence from work, though a lot less effort has been placed into ensuring they are up-to-date on local customs and rules.

Commonwealth of Sandwich Territories Baptism of Fire Squad

Nickname: The Royals
4-3-3

The Sandwich Territories are extremely excited to be involved in their first NS wide competition! Soccer is the official nation sport here, so you can safely bet your soul that all the major TV networks in Sandwich will be showing it. Even President Sir Al Fresco is being team decorative, ditching the suit for an official jersey.

At The Markets

The Betting stands in the markets have been doing better business than usual as the Baptism Of Fire prepares to take off. Most of the early money is going on Secundus Kasius who are one of the favourites, largely thanks to their experience gained in the AOCAF. The Inevitable Syndicate, Kishrael and Old Guard also seem to where the moneys at, though it’s hard to predict when there’s a tournament full of so many debutants.
On the Kaledor front, only the most patriotic seem to be putting any money behind them to win the tournament as a whole, though a lot of Crowns is being placed on who the nation’s top scorer will be throughout the event. Not surprisingly our lone frontman Sir Tarquin Fitzroy is the favorite to bag the most goals, closely followed by our rampaging left winger Sir Tristram Northsea.
The draw appears to be the most predicted outcome for our opening match with Riyahda though this may change as we’ll get to see what we are up against before we play them as Matchday One is our bye day.
