National Babbageball Federation

It was a crazy season. Lake Calhoun finished at .500 and wound up sixth out of eight teams in the Championship Section, a mere three points from a title. Three teams -- Hyde Park, Oxbridge, and Bickerton -- shared top honors in the Championship, co-champions were also crowned in the Reserve, and a differential tiebreaker was required to settle the last Champions' League nominee. If nothing else, Babbageball is competitive here.

Our nominees to the second Grokworks Champions' League are Hyde Park Judges, Oxbridge Yellow Jackets, Bickerton Bears, and Churchill Knights.

As Vettrera has finished their first season of Babbage Rules, they have high hopes for what's to come. It has been announced that 4 more teams will be added to the league, raising BRF from a 12-team system to a 16-team system. They also say that next season's playoffs will be "Race To The Top" format. where the lower ranked team will have to keep facing the team above them to progress into the finals.

If this had happened this season, it would resemble the following:

The season's format was as follows: all 12 teams would play each other once, then the even numbered teams would play eachother again, as would the odd-numbered teams. After that, the results would be compiled to establish a final standings. Many surprises came from this unconventional format.
Several teams who weren't strong in "STAGE 1" of the tournament, bounced back in the "Even/Odd" stage.
Notable teams would be: Vicette Velocity (who went from 4-7 to 7-9) and Huddleston Havoc (who went from 4-7 to 8-8)
along with that, several teams who were high up in the standings, faltered after the "Even/Odd" round.
Notable teams would be: Demeter Dynamos (who went from 6-5 to 7-9) and Polluxia Predators (who went from 5-6 to 7-9)
after Bellmont finished their 'even/odd" stage, all their hopes to go the the Championships depended on the Cougars performing worse than Bellmont did, unfortunately that wasn't the case. In the end Castor and Cape Marshall earned the rights to attend the "Champion's League" and also the right to the "VBF Finals". Next season has a lot in store as the Swiftway Sorcerers, Valor City Voyagers, Amastia Angels, and the Ionis Intensity join the party. After that, Vettrera will grow to 20 teams, where they will close off expansion, and have an official number of Babbage Rules Teams. The last four teams who will be added to the VBF in season three will be the Waverly Warriors, Lunaria Strikers, Vespia Whirlwinds, and Everport Eagles.

After a run to the finals in their first tournament in the world ranks, the Yesopalithan Babbage Rules League went through a few changes for the second season in order to sort out some competition issues.

For the second season, a double-round robin format was introduced, with top six teams making it to the knockout rounds of the tournament. After the regular season, the standings stood thus:

Despite outrage at the FBFL for not entering a team into the 8th Babbage Rules Championships, Falconear Babbage carries on. A slight formatting change was made, and due to the fact that the Champions' League only takes place right after a World Championships, the seasons will be two years long and consist of seventy-eight games spaced throughout. There will only be one division of forty teams, and all who finish above .500 will make it to the playoffs, which will be a straight knockout affair from that point onward.

Grokworks Champions' League
for Babbage rules football

Thirty-eight club teams from 10 nations have entered clubs in the second Grokworks Champions' League for Babbage rules football. Twenty-five clubs pre-qualify to the group stage as follows:

1. The defending champions, who are guaranteed a slot even if they do not qualify in the ordinary manner from their association.
2. From amongst association champions (top nominees), the top 16 by GCL coefficient.
3. From amongst all clubs not qualified by virtue of the above, the top 8 by GCL coefficient, plus additional clubs with established coefficients to make up the difference should fewer than 16 associations participate.

These standards filled only 22 group stage spots in this edition. The next four slots were taken by the highest-qualifying remaining club from each of the top four competing associations, leaving 12 clubs to fill six slots.

Clubs that are not advanced directly to the group stage participate in two-leg knockout rounds, with clubs entering at various stages based on coefficients and paired by lot.
