The Icemark Baseball Season III

The third season of the national Baseball League will be best known for Frostmarris's 18 game unbeaten run, and utter dominance in their run to the Championship. After winning the League they comfotably brushed aside their opposition in the Play-Off series to retain the championship. They also were victorious in The Icemark Shield, becoming the first ever team to achieve the treble.
In The Baseball Club Champions Cup it was a disapointing year for Icemarkan teams, as Frostmarris, Learton and Bendis all failed to get past the opening round. Only plucky Crawsby, who are a shadow of the team they were two years ago, progressed to the second round.

After a players strike shortened last season to just 129 games, both the SBO front office and the players union have worked out a new collective bargaining agreement that is now in effect for the next 15 years. With that said, the reigning champs Middleview Villagers, who thwarted the three-peat chances of Westbay, are looking to repeat after losing a lot of former international stars to retirement. They are also looking to get back into international competition, as they made it all the way to the quarter final round in the BCCC before falling to Saxet out of Karditan.

LBÉC baseball is beginning to generate a bit of a foothold in the Cotdelapomais sport landscape, with some major help from Albionpool AppleSox, the defending BCCC Champion. The AppleSox spent the offseason picking up big name foreign stars like Saugeais' Rodney Rey and Marek Atterbury, along with Karditan's Johnny Pearseed and Yuji Kato. As a result, the AppleSox now have the league's most cosmopolitan lineup and a dynamite rotation featuring Rey, Alexandre-Étienne Papineau and Maxim Séne.

The league had some good timing, introducing two new teams- Charlevoix Joliats and Portsmouth Dreadnoughts a week after the BCCC final. Neither team had a particularly great season, although the Joliats had a brief 6 game win streak in the middle of the season that included a sweep of a series against the disappointing Alouettes- whose finish 1 game short of the playoffs could be partially blamed to that lousy series against Charlevoix.

The AppleSox had the best record for the season, losing only 26 times in 108 games. They also showed they were in it to win it, pulling off a high profile mid-season trade to bring in Benoît Larcher, probably the nation's best baseball player in exchange for a large sum of cash and some relief pitching. Right fielder Neal Auger once again had a world class season, with a .401 OBP and 12 home runs. New shortstop Yuji Kato from Karditan also had a nice season setting the table for the AppleSox with 27 stolen bases and a .385 OBP.

It is the AppleSox world, and we all just live in it apparently. The Sox lost just one game in the playoffs, including a very impressive sweep of the Festivals, including a game 3 pitchers duel when Rodney Rey threw a complete game 4 hitter to dismantle the Festivals, who themselves got a decent 7 inning, 2 run outing from their pitcher, Henri Dubois. With the series merely a formality in game 4, the AppleSox bats came alive, chasing Festivals pitcher David Dumas after just 3 innings when he gave up 8 runs.

Darren Tobiason lifted the Penguins to a win in Game 4 to avoid a sweep, but the Swarm's pitching power was too much to handle as the three-time defending champions rolled through them in Game 5 with Hammond and Smathers leading the charge. Melody was sharp in Game 1, but didn't pitch in Game 4 due to abdominal pain. The Swarm are optimistic that she will be back for the Semifinal series, though.

The Swarm are the best team in Yesopalithan baseball, by far.

The Paladins gave the Cyborgs everything they could handle. First, Dixon actually outpitched Hawkins in Game 1. The Cyborgs answered back in Game 2 when #2 pitcher Vladmir Hidalgo pitched a two-hitter. New Kinsi had its act back together in Game 3, but then Dixon pitched a one-hitter in Game 4, and Maureane hit a grand slam in Game 5 to put the Paladins ahead 3-2. That was as close as they would get, however, as the Cyborgs closed out Games 6 and 7 to win the title for the third time in fourth seasons.

Nothing like a division rematch in the Fall Classic to really get the blood boiling. This final could be compared well to an intense at-bat; firstly, the ultimate winner was the one who started ahead. Bashtun was always playing catch-up, which can be inspiring as it goes on, but the ultimate defeat is the bitterest of all. The hope of the epic comeback dashed is hard to handle and Bloody Sox fans are experiencing this first-hand; it seemed like Bashtun had the edge going into the final game after that 18-1 blowout, but in the at-bat analogy, that was merely a monster foul ball. The final game was inspiring in a way for the Mountaineers, however; after the #4 man was knocked silly in Game 6, their ace Shane Joyner made his first 4-day-rest start of the year and pitched beautifully to lock up the series. It was also a heartwarming moment for the KBL in general, as fans all around Karditan took pride in the fact the apparent best team in the country might be moving away from the despicable 5-man rotation.

If one were to go by pure stats, it would seem that Moistest Aloe should have topped Vela. Pure stats would probably suggest a winner that didn’t even crack the top 3: Saxet first-bagger Christine Dekhi was the only batter to break 50 home runs in the past season. However, what each of these players did was far more important than parking a ball over a wall; what isn’t shown in the quick stat line is that Vela actually slightly edged out Aloe in On Base Percentage, though all three top finishers having over an astounding .405—Dekhi had an OBP of .364. This was very much the year of tablesetters; the less-than-spring chicken of Marquez having a breakout season leading the Mountaineers not only to their first division title, but their first Fall Classic title! Meanwhile, Aloe shifted up his yearly quota of 20/20 seasons for his first career 30/30 season, helping the Ursas maintain some form after Starline Caster was knocked out for the season after a particularly bad collision during an attempted double play early in the year. But when it came to one individual’s contributions to his team, Vela was second to none- a stunning 30/30 performance from the leadoff spot, setting the record for leadoff home runs in one season (23), and providing the best defense in the league; opposing batters have nicknamed him the “Black Hole.”

RBIs are a fairly irrelevant stat; 80+ may seem odd for a leadoff man, these three just happened to enjoy bottom of the orders with high OBPs.

Leaper raked, Brant went through incredible hot and cold streaks, Joyner was amazing when he pitched but only started a pitiful once every five games. Not much else to say, really, other than Joyner’s tendency to challenge hitters keeping his strikeout count very, very low.

Year 1094 season


Baseball is a developing sport in both Aels and Ancharmunn, and although sport is usually devolved to both nations, the baseball authorities in both countries agreed to join forces two years ago to form a national Tynealan baseball league. Based on this agreement, Aels and Ancharmunn will participate internationally (and be represented internationally) as Tyneala (TYL).

There are 22 teams in Celtic Union League Baseball (CULB), made up of six Charmunnry and 16 Aelsh teams. The six Charmunnry teams play in a single division with the designated hitter rule; the 16 Aelsh teams are split geographically into the Western (5), Central (6) and Eastern (5) Divisions and play without the DH. There is no inter-league play until the playoff final, known as the Tyneala Championship.

All-Star Game: Ancharmunn National Series 6-15-0 @ Aels National First League 7-5-0
In an incredible game, the Aels League scored 7 runs on just 5 hits to win their first All-Star Game in three attempts. Aaron Matthams of the Drayfill Steelhounds, who hit a three-run game-winning home run in the 8th inning, was named MVP.

In Ancharmunn, Porthmageed Trawlers finished four games ahead of the Garramairead Eagles to win the regular season Charmunnry title. There was no change to the playoff teams, as Ballylahun finished 29 games behind and Owentalaff 31 games back from the Trawlers; both teams the only ones in that six-team league to finish sub-.500.

In Aels, Longhoughster Stallions looked like repeating in their second season in the league, and were four games clear at the all-star break. However, a weak second half saw them fall to third in the Central to finish 92–70, a whole ten games worse than last season, and a game back from the wildcard spot. Doversham Checkers won their first division title, while the Plaidstone Blackadders finished second in the Central and took the wildcard slot. Elsewhere, the Imeall an Uisce Spearfish won the Western Division with a measly 81–81 record, while the Eastern was won by the Ulverster Tarpons, who finished 98–64 and had the best regular season record in the entire CULB. Meanwhile, the other expansion team from last season, the Caerfremin Sharks, set a new record for futility by finishing 44 games back and winning only 51 of their 162 games, for a winning percentage of just .315

In an incredible Championship series, the Eagles come back from three games to one down to win it in front of an ecstatic home crowd. Along the way they shut out the Blackadders by 13 runs in Plaidstone. Garramairead therefore become the first Charmunnry champions of Tynealan baseball.

Despite the same 162-game schedule as last season, no hitter reached 50 homeruns or 150 runs batted in, with the leaders at 43 and 143 respectively. Three pitchers reached the 20-win plateau, while Matthew O'Farnan of Doversham came within ten strikeouts of being the first to 300 Ks, setting a new record in the process.

Prior to this season, LBÉC did not have any reputable international stadia of their own, playing mostly in small "High School"/"Low Minors" level parks, but the Albionpool AppleSox have just opened up a brand new 35,000 seat park in the southern suburb of Roseville that will also put forth a bid to host the BCCC Championship- the stadium is called Binghampton Square Park, after the neighbourhood it resides in.

This peculiar stadium with what appears to be writing from Daehanjaeguk, or Gyatso-Kai, served as the model for Binghamton Square Park, which is not yet open but will be in time for the BCCC Championship.

Preliminary Draw Phase


Procedural Bits:

  • 64 teams from 16 nations will enter in to the tournament, matching last year's total
  • Instead of a qualifying first, playoff second format, this tournament will have a single round "Champions qualifying path" and "Non-champions qualifying path" running side by side; the round will still be determined in a best of 3 format. After that first round of each, the remaining 32 teams will be placed into the First Round proper, where normal tournament knockout rules will used until a champion is crowned.


Final Site selection:
The Selection Committee for the final site is made up of 11 members from the AIBC Boards of Trustees. With three bids being set forth from Camwood, Cotdelapoms, and Karditan, there will be a maximum 2 rounds of voting taking place. Any city requires 50% +1 votes to win a the hosting duties. If no city receives enough votes to win, the bid with the least amount of votes is dropped from the ballot and the remaining cities are added to a new ballot and re-voted on.

This year's finals will be a matchup of former finalists, as the Hansbrough Turtles of Yesopalitha take on the Eau Claire Cavaliers of Darmen. Hansbrough last reached the finals in the 3rd edition of the BCCC, falling to Civil Citizenry's Kent Reds 3 games to 2, while The Cavaliers were able to lift the trophy the year before that. Both teams had similar fates during the BCCC this year, as they both started in the Champions Qualifying group and swept all but one of their serii, proving that they each had forces not to be reckoned with in pitching, hitting, and on the basepaths. Binghampton Square Park in Cotdelapoms will be alive with such fervor from both teams' supporters, as the Cavaliers look to claim their second BCCC titles, while the Turtles look to rectify their near victory just to seasons ago.

Eau Claire Cavaliers become the first multi winner of the BCCC trophy, needing all 5 games to defeat Hansbrough. For the Turtles, this is the second time they have reached the Finals and lost in 5 games.

Coefficients are now updated.

The entry limits for the 6th Champions Cup are as follows:
  • All nations are eligible to enter four teams.
  • Special Consideration: Eau Claire Cavaliers are assured a spot as the reigning champions. If it fails to qualify for one of Darmen's four places, it will replace the fourth-placed team.

Host bids will follow the same criteria as last season: entry must at least have a stadium name, capacity, and city. The Finals venue will be determined via a knockout vote style. Last place stadium in the round is dropped out, and at any time a stadium gets more than half of the votes, all voting ends and that stadium is determined to be the host. If no host bids are received, the Finals will take place at Stade de Saugeais in Montbenoit.

The deadline for entry into the 6th BCCC is tentatively set for August 24th, 2012.

The all-too familiar leader were the Swarm in this season. The surprise of the year was Xavier, who came from being in fifteenth place last season to actually finishing above .500 and grabbing the last playoff berth. Yeharu, on the other hand, finished out of the top eight, taking a step backwards. But can anyone really stop the Swarm from a five-peat?

The Swarm won three one-run games to sweeping the surprising playoff team, the Hammerheads. Melody Johanson, Paulin La Tiolas, and INgo Letourneau were brilliant in their pitch control, even when they gave up runs to the Hammerheads' stars, Lilou Bethune and Emilie Ferdon. Van Dern was sharp as well, keeping the one run leads and making them last. If they keep pitching like this, the Swarm will complete a five-peat.

The Lynx gave the Turtles all that they could handle in this first-round match-up. Hansbrough weathered the storm of losing Games 5 and 6 by a combined twelve runs to win Game 7 at home. SS Mari Feveret is turning out to be a key cog for the Turtles, hitting well above .350 for the series and also making some amazing plays in the infield that led to outs.

The Cougars' bats came through at the end to take this series, but the Warriors kept it close with their pitching, relief in particular. Mathias Billey will be a star someday, and Sarah Capron shows a lot of promise. However, it was the Cougars and 3B Valentin Siron who came through big at the end and took the series. Siron hit four home runs during the series.

What can be said about Aaron Dugard? The pitcher, coming off of an injury, pitched in Games 2 and 5 for the Beavers to lead them past the pesky Grizzlies. It also helps when you have an all-world center fielder in Henry Fonder to rob homers, as Fonder grabbed three balls that would've been home runs.

It was only fitting that this series went to seven games, looking at the history between these two teams. However, it was Melody Johanson who trumped Victor Van Cruz once again despite losing the first match between the two aces. It also helps to have SS Smathers hitting the ball well and making plays. Although she is getting in age, Katherine Smathers doesn't look like she will slow down anytime soon.

In a series highlighted by no less than three extra-inning games, Worthington edged Raxton in Game 7 at the top of the ninth inning thanks to a three-run homer by 3B Valentin Siron that put to rest a brilliant pitching series by the Beavers' ace, Aaron Dugard. The series went back and forth, with the teams winning in every other game. The Cougars will now attempt to deny Irkan City a five-peat.

Although Melody Johanson lasted a total of five innings on the mound, the ace had to come off in the sixth inning due to her pitching arm being sore. The Cougars jumped all over a usually reliable Ryan Morgan, with 3B Valentin Siron (who else?) hitting a three-run homer to highlight a five-run outburst that put the Cougars ahead and won them the opening game of the series. Worthington 1-0.

The world returned to normal in Game 2, as the Swarm struck early and held the lead to overcome a shaky start by Paulin La Tiolas, who was pulled after six innings. Katherine Smathers provided the bulk of the offense, driving in four runs. Series tied 1-1.

Worthington obliterated Irkan City in Game 3 to the delight of home fans, with every player getting at least one hit and a total of eleven runs being scored off of four different pitchers. Sorin drove in five with two home runs, 1B Julia Loupe drove in four, and the Cougars had a field day. Worthington 2-1.

Just as the series was starting to get out of hand, Melody Johanson righted the ship again for the Swarm with a five-hitter complete game. 2B David Bol helped SS Katherine Smathers with the run scoring, hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. The series headed to Irkan City, being tied after four. Series tied 2-2.

This game was full of drama. A Katherine Smathers solo home run gave the Swarm the lead in the fifth, only to be answered by Valentin Sorin at the bottom of the sixth. On the top of the ninth, Smathers hit a triple that scored 1B Tobias Wittry, but closer William Van Dern wasn't able to do his job, giving up another home run to Valentin Sorin. At the top of the tenth, Xavier Hammond blasted the ball to center field, and Van Dern was finally able to close out the game, giving the Swarm an opportunity at their fifth straight title, which would put them down as a dynasty. Irkan City leads 3-2.

Sorry, Irkan City fans, but this series ain't over yet! Worthington emphatically denied Irkan City their fifth straight title in Game 6, going out to a six-nil lead on the top of the sixth and cruising to an easy victory. Sorin was all over the place again, driving in three runs and continuing his superior form. So, Game 7 it will be, with Melody Johanson facing Mohamed Boisse for all the marbles. Series tied 3-3.

What a game, and what a series. Worthington had the lead after six innings, with Sorin hitting yet another home run in the bottom of the sixth. Then, the Swarm stuck back, with Hammond hitting a double at the top of the eighth, and then Smathers hitting one to right field to lead, 3-2, and Van Dern coming up. Van Dern, however, blew his second save of the finals, allowing Sorin to hit a double that tied the game. Three nail-biting innings later, Smathers came up to bat once more, and the MVP of the series hit a solo home run that went almost out of the stadium. Van Dern was able to get the final three outs, and the game, and the series, was over, giving Irkan City a five-peat to stamp their place in the history books.
