we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

I love Sigur Rós, and I am well aware of that. Though I haven't listened to Von, and I did specify "ominous/threatening".

Unfortunately, can't listen to that link because it's 3:20 AM and I need to sleep.

From before I was born until I was around 4 or 5, my parents played a lot of rock music (the Smiths, Therapy?, Guns N' Roses, The Ramones, Feeder, etc) and then I started listening to pop music because I didn't know there was betterdifferent music around. I started getting back into rock about 3 or 4 years ago.

I used to listen to U2, Green Day, and such a lot, and then when I was around 5th or 6th-8th grade, I got into more harder rock, alternative, and metal, like Metallica, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, etc. However in high school, I feel more at home with classic rock like The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, George Thorogood, Bad Company, and such. Around high school I also got interested in Celtic music and like it, although I don't have as much of it as I do classic rock, but I really like Celtic Crossroads the most. Oh and of course I've enjoyed soundtracks throughout.

It's okay. Not a huge fan, but I have listened to some of Imelda May's stuff, and she's decent enough. Just not that big of a rise out of it, that's all.

Yeah. When I first heard it, it was sort of a surprise difference....but I love it as much as the next Sigur Ros song now. Pretty much was my first response to the most upbeat Sigur Ros album when I heard it.....but it quickly grew on me. Anything Sigur Ros seems to do, no matter if it's upbeat or mellow, seems to be great and 'original.'

And I agree with the 'old people dance music' thing.

'tis that video where she's crying and the weird-coloured tears go into her mouth, and then up her nose, and... seriously, the video has nothing to do with the song at all.

(I vaguely remember the other video for a single from Vespertine had blatant censorbars, so there might've been nudity in it. This thought was not pleasant to teenaged!me.)

Speakin'o'Björk, Modern Things grooves like whoa, Pluto and Army of Me are metal, and I'll chew my leg off if Human Behaviour doesn't have one of the best basslines ever recorded.

Bjork will always manage to be weird it seems.....

YouTube is usually antsy about those things and censors them....I've had them censor game trailers for M rated games that have nothing back in them at all, and I could freaking watch the video if I was 13 with no problem....Hell, maybe even 10.

I just listened to all of those, because I haven't really heard any of those enough. Declare Independence is kinda metal-ish as well.

That song ain't bad.

Sigur Ros may not be 'threatening' with any of their music, but they can definitely be ominous (mostly last 5 to 6 minutes. There's another I wanted to post, but it's not on YouTube, which isn't surprising considering it was bonus tracks. Also, the 2nd one on the list is kinda ominous because of the video, and ominous in a sad way).

I think we could be good friends:P Sigur Ros is my favorite band, and you seem to like Bjork as well, which I really quite enjoy some of her songs. We are going to be sharing music with each other forever now.

Von is definitely my least favorite Sigur Ros album, but I don't think it's technically bad. I haven't really listened to it enough to get my exact opinion. But it's their first album, so it's not that surprising. The recording on 'most' of the songs (Except one, oddly), doesn't sound quite so good. But that might of been what they were going for...since one songs not. Even back then though, they still had something new going for them

There are still a couple of songs I dig though. Like this one (Which, at about 4:12 makes me think of a System of a Down song), this (Which is actually a little jazzy as well, or maybe just 'funk'), this, and some random one I ran across from around that time, which also fits under the 'funk' genre (Songs name is Icelandic for 'The Funk Song). And, for a random added bonus, here. Not on Von, but I ran across that as well at some point....

It might change every week, or month. I might hear a genre that I haven't heard of before and decide whether to like it or dislike it. The most recent genre is Power Metal! \m/

You may want to check out Nightwish. I'm pretty sure they're power metal. Or I suppose you could classify it as symphonic metal, epic metal, or anything of the sorts. But they basically use epic soundtrack-like symphonies combined with drums and electric guitars, and they're awesome. "Over the Hills and Far Away" and "Ever Dream" are two of their best songs, and two of their older ones at that. A couple of their newer ones, "Amaranth" and "Bye Bye Beautiful" aren't bad as well. For a different style from them, there's always "The Islander."

When I was a kid I hated all music, as the only thing I'd been exposed to was my dad/brother's rock, which I absolutely hated.

Then a couple of years ago I discovered this new thing called The Internet, and fell in love with every kind of electronic music (plus some other things).

Especially dubstep.

It has changed and molded quite a bit.

When I was a pre-teen, I liked music along these lines. As I grew a bit older, my tastes changed a little, and I started listening to music like this.

When my mom and my step-dad met and started living together, I was around 14 years old, he brought a huge collection of music with him. His taste has always been very eclectic, and he listens to jazz, salsa, classical, Flamenco, rock, bag pipes, Celtic (traditional and more contemporary), Gregorian chant, folk, Enka (Japanese music), metal... well, his music collection is quite varied. He introduced me to a wide range of musical styles.

Examples: Deep Forest, Yoyo Ma, Nightwish, Enigma, Heroes del Silencia, Agatsuma Hiromitsu, Ojos de Brujo, Rosario, Rammstein, Jose Angel Hevia, Unheilig, Eisbrecher (I more or less introduced him to that), music from the Andes, Oceania (Maori), Adiemus, Mercedes Sosa, Silvio Rodriguez, Aldi Meola, Ottmar Liebert, the list goes on and on.

My taste hasnt changed a lot for the last ten years. (since I was 17 yo)
However from child hood let's say 6 years old to ten years ago(17 yo) it has changed quite a bit, but I think this is natural.
However they havent totally changed. While I dropped liking certain styles of music , I have retained liking other styles.
For example. As a kid I used to like 'volksmusik ' Mostly the bavarian type of music with lots of trumpets and other brass instruments and trivial lyrics, I stopped liking it when I was 10 to 12 years old.
However as a kid I used to like 1980s synth or new wave already, and I still like it today.
Thats not the only style I like though.

My main influences have been my father (he liked queen, Dire straits CCR, etc)My brother(he drew his influence from his guitar teacher for some part I think and passed it on to me ;) ) I was introduced to the great blues guitarrist and Guitar virtuosos like Eric Clapton, Steve Vai, Gary Moore, Joe Satriani and others. Also I was introduced to other bands of great (again from part of my father's record collection that was in part turned over to us when my parents split up) Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the like.
I rediscovered the 80s as well with some pop and new wave bands, from which I only knew the one or other song, but I discovered that I actually liked most their stuff, and that they were from a similar time (such as Blondie, OMD, Duran Duran, Ultravox.)
Also I was influenced by radio-- We have radiostations on fm that play music from the years 1960 to 1989. Also My mother remarried to an older person, and he brought in all the 1960s music as this was his era of music. (when he was a teenager in the 'star club' in Hamburg when the Beatles started out.)
Finally I I turned to contemporary music again-- which came by the help of british radio that I was listening to introducing me to the great British Indie music of the early 2000s to 2010s. which in retrospect got me back to britpop ofthe 1990s and the Indie or early independent of the 1980s(The Smiths) (paul Weller and his bands)

I used to like Nursery Rhymes (I was little), then I liked today's sucky mainstream pop, then I liked disco, now I like classic rock.
I still like disco, but classic rock is more of a favourite. :)
I sort of like turkish music (a little).

my own taste has not changed so much as music has evolved to fulfill it. although, as space music devolved into techno, and the myriad sub genres that has spawned, it has drifted back away somewhat from doing so purrfectly. but the diversification is good too.

Not at all, at least not once I found some I wanted to listen to.

When I was in grade school, I wasn't remotely interested in music. I was too young to appreciate my mother's big band jazz records, and the stuff the other kids played was completely unmemorable crap.

Then one night when I was in high school, all of the radio stations had signed off except one.

The country one.

To paraphrase their old tagline, I "locked it in, and ripped the knob off." Not only do I still like country, I still like the songs they were playing back then. The new stuff can go disappear - it's rock, or pop, but it sure isn't country no matter what today's stations call it. It makes me feel old that they call the good stuff "classic" country now. :p
