Don't get cocky.

One liberation succeeded, thanks to a huge turnout and delegate inactivity, doesn't mean TBH very, very competent at holding regions and that Yorkshire will be a walk-over.

The hard work starts all over again... right now.

June Update

Postby Jakker » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:19 pm

I apologize to all of NationStates for not being very active the last couple of months. However, I am now back to full activity.

April consisted of a solid liberation of ITALIA by UDL.

May consisted of a record breaking tag session led by Spartz where 28 regions were tagged. There were also points when raiders held a few regions at once. There were also a few liberations, so kudos to defenders for that.

As you can tell, I haven’t been fully engaged, so I apologize for the vague summary of the last two months and of events that I probably missed.

However….

June is here and the biggest raid of the year has happened! Capitalist Paradise was raided and it was a pretty awesome raid if I do say so myself. I hope that somewhat makes up from my lack of activity.

P.S. I loved banjecting Uni from the region. Let’s see how long this party can last. Get at me, fendas ;)

I was one of those who tag raided with Halc the most. I've also talked to him since Spartzy broke his record with 28. The previous record was 19. I was there. Whoever told you over 30 was either lying or quite mistaken.

Hmm, well then I was mistaken I guess

Nice tag raid anyway and congrats on the CP raid. Definitely didn't see it coming

Inactive and less active than usual are different things. You can even still lead raids when you can't raid yourself. :p

With the year being more than than halfway over since the challenge was issued to bring raiding and defending to a new level, I call upon you NS to discuss if that has happened so far.

Who has had a better year? Raiders or defenders?
Has anything changed in R/D that has been for the better?

Have there been more "bigger" raids? Has there been more liberation attempts?

Is there anything that people would like to see from the raider's side/defender's side?

I hope to make these next 5 months action packed!

Righto here goes :)

Who has had a better year? Raiders or defenders?
Defenders did well enough but raiders won easily due to vastly superior numbers and amazing update hits.

Has anything changed in R/D that has been for the better?
Honestly? Nope. Tag raids are getting longer but they're just not fun to defend against.

Have there been more "bigger" raids? Has there been more liberation attempts?
Define bigger. Libs have been down.

Is there anything that people would like to see from the raider's side/defender's side?
Raiders: Stop piling into regions then claiming defenders are useless. 30-40 Raider WA's is overkill, have more faith in your leads to do their jobs. And it means defenders can actually show up :P
Defenders: Stop moaning about everything and fighting each other. We're not the saviours of NS and we're not better than raiders because we "save" regions. And i'll get into trouble for this bit, there's a lot of glory hounds turning up in defender circles claiming as much credit as they can to fuel their ego's.

Edit: Needed spacing.

Thank you DYP.

I would define "bigger" as raids of regions with larger populations, more regional influence, more delegate endorsements, etc. I guess a better word would be raids that are more difficult.

As for piling, I'm going to speak from my experience and I'll be completely honest. It's a tough situation sometimes. When Capitalist Paradise was raided, my mindset was get as many endos as possible since i had over 40 native endos. That situation was easy. In other cases, the delegate count is not that high, so not much support is needed, but it's hard to work out some support. What I mean by that is let's say the native delegate has 8 endorsements and 11 updaters were used to raid the region (no sleeper). Therefore the point has 10 endorsements. I have seen defenders with high numbers of updaters recently (even as much as 20 on a Tuesday major), so you have to think defenders will get at least 7-15 people going for a lib attempt. With defenders improving in their update times (I've seen either misses or really good times recently), I want to make sure we have some cushion because losing out on a raid after just one update sucks. Trust me :P

So anyways, ideally I say being 10-13 or so above the native delegate is what's wanted to have a cushion, but also give defenders a chance. But it's hard to make those exact numbers happen. It's hard to ask one organization for support, but say "Only ask ____ of your people to support." Who knows how long it will take for those people to respond? And I find it awkward to be the one asking for help, but then ordering how that help is given. Then I guess you could argue well then only use your own organization to hold a region. Although that would be ideal, only some organizations have the ability to do this. Unfortunately, TBH do not currently have 15-20 troops who are active enough to move and support somewhere quickly, so either we only raid small regions with delegates of a few endorsements or I ask for help. Now I just want to point out as evident by what I've said, I do not believe asking for support from non-updaters is piling. Only when it gets excessive do I believe piling is the proper description.

In conclusion, I do try to keep in mind that this is a game and more fun with competition, thus the margin of endorsements should be reasonable. However, with the fact that losing sucks, defenders getting better with times and numbers, the fact that it's hard to get a point that can be on for every update after a raid, and it being harder to ask for a minimal amount of support rather than full support of what's available, piling usually is bound to happen. I know you know I have been one of those people who can be tough on defenders for not trying to lib when a lot of updaters is needed, and that is unfair of me. But I mean, someone has gotta be the bad guy, right? :P

Don't tell me defenders can't marshal the necessary updaters, 35 moved into Corporate Fascism at one update. It must be difficult for them, but they can do it if they really want to.

The CF incident must, incidentally, count as a bit of a downer for Uni, while not affecting Jakker.
Don't be deceived when our Revolution has finally been stamped out and they tell you things are better now even if there's no poverty to see, because the poverty's been hidden...even if you ever got more wages and could afford to buy more of these new and useless goods which these new industries foist on you, and even if it seems to you that "you never had so much" - that is only the slogan of those who have much more than you.
