Kulverintian preparations begin for 54th World Cup!

Image

The Kulverintian national football team has begun it's final preparations for the 54th World Cup. Many in Kulverint were delighted at our successful attempt at qualification last time, although being drawn into quite possibly the most difficult group once there certainly did not help. It is interesting to note, though, that our last world cup game was against this tournament's hosts, albeit a 3-1 loss, although could it be some sort of sign perhaps?

Whatever the case, Tommi Jakinen's men are under no illusions. Just because of qualification last time is certainly no guarantee of success this time. And if Kulverint do not get far enough up the rankings, a 3rd seed is a real possibility, which will make things a lot harder for the team. We wait, of course, for the post Baptism of Fire rankings to see if Kulverint can retain 40th place. The new system of qualification is an interesting one, and we wait to see what Kulverint's men make of it. Most certainly, going out in the zonal phase would be a complete disaster, so that has to be the team's first aim.

We wish all of the players, new and old, a successful world cup qualifying campaign.

Here we go folks

Postby Mangolana » Mon Jan 10, 2011 5:30 pm

Mangolana, this name now comes to mind after the disaster that occured in baptism of fire 39. leading there group with one game to go , with even with a loss of 1 goal, could still advance to the elimination rounds, lost 2-0 and was eliminated in the group stage. Now in their first ever world cup qualification attempt, they hope to defy all odds and qualify for the 54th edition of the world cup. Critics within Mangolana have publically stated their doubts, of a Mangolana Qualification, But there are also many about the international community that say Mangolana is the dark horse in this field to qualify for the world cup. Mangolana's players though have remained modest and have repeatedly stated when asked, "It is what it is, and it's not what it's not.

But the people of this country are behind you 110%, and we have only one thing to say to you, Go Mangolana!!!

Back in the saddle for the World Cup
Image

The national team, still nursing the wounds and humiliation from last World Cup, is looking to make an impact. 4 years older, presumably 4 years wiser as well, manager Benoit Howard and company have had plenty of preparation. "Oh yeah, preparations galore. Plus, with most of the squad either playing in domestic or foreign leagues, that lot will keep the competitive drive and mental focus that we need for the forthcoming World Cup," said Howard. Also, Howard has still decided to use the young Jenson Paulson at goal instead of the wily vet, Christian Eston. "Look, Jenson is our keeper. He has plenty of potential and has shown in the Saugeais League that he can become a top keeper in the world. So, no more questions about that please." Still waiting on the upcoming Cup draw, the Knights have already made their friendly schedule for the tournament. They will play at Pretty Awesome Persons in their warmup for the qualifying matches, then at home against Khytenna, then away at Mangolana, and finally to wrap up the qualifying stage a home match against Erathore.

Catch the draw and all of the World Cup matches on SNN Sports Network or online at national-journal.com.

GASTON, Northland, Qazox

'It has to be in this file somewhere' thought Kyle Cartman as he grew increasingly frustrated that his search within the Project Janus file was stymied at every turn. Hard copies blacked out, 314 error messages and even a recursive worm that almost crashed his entire system had driven Kyle to the breaking point. Idlely, he began typing in random names of people he'd known over the years just to see if they showed up in the main search database of the digital files. After re-reading more error messages and more edited material, he took a quick glance at the clock on his wall.

'3:00 am; I've been at this for over 30 hours,' he thought as he tapped his console. A strange idea stuck him and he typed in his real name and the computer's screen flickered and appeared to go out.

"No, dammit!" he yelled as he began to try to reboot the system. Right before he started typing on the console, the screen came back on and pages and pages of data began to scroll rapidly by. "Holy Shit." he muttered as every detail of Project Janus began to upload itself into his system.

WORLD CUP
January 10, 2011

Erathore is crossing all the Ts and dotting all the Is in preparation for the 54th World Cup. The national team is still hurting from their sudden knockout from the Baptism of Fire and is looking to make up for it in the World Cup. There are several players to view at the upcoming pre-qual game against Civil Citizenry. Interestingly enough, the man is not great goalkeeper Alessio Affonso Galigilygano or goalscoring machine Gaspare Malvolio. Rather it comes in the form of the right neutral midfield with a sublime right foot and dead ball specialization, Alexio Del Nieran.

Born in 1990, Nieran debuted with EMI FC in 2007 in a friendly fixture against Arro in Seria-B. He left with two assists and good overall play. 5 months later, in December, he scored his first goal FC Mildrid by putting a wonderful free kick into the upper right corner of the net, right past goalkeeper Roberto Bennedetto for their only goal in a 3-1 loss. Since then he has scored 9 other times, with 6 of 10 overall goals being from free kicks. Playing in the Baptism of Fire, Nieran scored twice, both times from free kicks. In the 4th Commonwealth Cup at Meguroko he scored once off of another free kick. For some reason the kid is just really darn good at those free kicks. Even he doesn't know how or why. In an interview earlier this year, "I really can't describe how I just know where to strike the ball. The only thing I do is place the valve towards me, but other then I just rely on my instincts. And it works. I have two different styles that I use. For a longer free kick I stand way back behind the ball. I take a few shuffling steps before sprinting at the ball and putting everything I have into the power and speed, although making sure to curve it. When I'm closer in and have a wall, I like to approach from 45 degrees. Run up to the ball, plant the weak foot, then let the leg do the rest." Well all eyes will be on the 20 year old to preform well against the best the world has to offer. We look forward to the games with high hopes, but nothing too outlandish. We are, after all, beginners in a game the world shares.

BURCHADINGER TIMES
OH RIGHT, THE WORLD CUP
By Gerhard Vietoris

The World Cup.

Seems like an eternity since we last competed in it, doesn't it? Well, then it might boggle your mind that it's been barely a few months since Dorian and Sonya emerged as champions. How did that happen, I hear you saying? Well, let's be honest, I don't have a single clue either, but this would be a good time to offer the good old 'Congratulations'. Congratulations D&S, you deserve it.

It'll definitely be interesting to see how Die Adler cope this time around in the World's largest football tournament, at least from a national perspective. The last few months have been stressful, for both the people in command, and the general public, the latter in particular. Struck by a recession, the death of a King and social unrest, football, along with sports as a whole, lost all coverage, and our lads abroad ended up demoralized, and were given another qualifying exit.

We seem to keep saying that this is the year; this is the year that the team will make it to the World Cup Finals, and sadly, that always ends up being flushed down the toilet like bul**it. But I'll repeat the line anyway in this article; this will be the year Die Adler qualify for the World Cup proper. There, now you can get the papayas ready.

But in all seriousness, it's now or never if the Burchadingan National Football Team want to make it to the World Cup Finals. Sooner or later, the BFA are going to get fed up, and are likely going to purge the current team, and in the highest extreme, exit the World Cup as a whole. Now, nobody in the nation wants that to happen, but who knows? It's a possibility. I'm pretty confident that if the nation just gets to the Finals, everyone will be delighted, I mean, who gives a damn if we finish last in Group A, or get thrashed by Krytenia 16-0 in that same group? We would have made it to the finals, and that's what matters.

The vital question remains, however; do the 'veterans' of the squad have what it takes to keep up with the young guns? Players such as Hans-Mayer Hansen were pretty frustrated by how some of the older players failed to latch on to his passes on several occasions during the last occasion. Last time around, Elias Becker in particular committed several errors that sent Die Adler spiralling into oblivion, and although 'The Deadly Eagle', 25-year old Markus Klogh has defended the veterans, calling them 'an integral part of our squad', I wouldn't be surprised if Daniel Felkan was recalled into first-team action. The inclusion of new players such as Lukas Reynard and Jasper Hejimans, both under 21's, shows that Enke is definitely looking towards the future. Max Fischer remains the father-like figure of the team, and nobody else seems capable to lead the team at the moment.

With that in mind, Enke will want to look at a possible replacement for Fischer once he retires. The captain's armband is a prized possession, and at the moment, although Klogh would be the obvious choice thanks to his national status, his leadership skills are in question, especially after he ended up giving his own teammate, Horst Feinstein, a big whack on the head after a 2-0 loss against Inchland in a friendly, in which Enke fielded only 'young' players, those being 28 and below, and made MK captain. Hans-Mayer Hansen would be another choice on first-sight, but his blasting of Becker during the World Cup 53 qualifiers will not help his chances. I'd personally go for Wilhelm Sigmundson, arguably as good as Klogh, and a far more serious person in whatever he does. For now though, Enke should just relish having the kind, experienced and talented Fischer on the squad, but by all means, he shouldn't feel to secure.

Right now, people's minds will probably be on the Group Draw. Enke probably wont appreciate having to face Sarzonia or Sargossa again, especially the latter, who cruelly denied us at the eleventh hour of a chance to enter the finals. Opponents I want to see? Kazzoria, just so we can show them who's boss (or the other way around) and Eastfield Lodge, longtime rivals. Well, tune in to TV1 or Sports World to check out the draw live on Saturday night, at exactly 8 PM. For now, that's all from me, but I'll be writing about the World Cup from now on, so make sure you pick up your copy of Burchadinger Times!

His heart raced as he ran up the stairs once more.

9...10...11...12...13...14...15...

One by one he counted the rows of steps, each one slightly harder to climb than the last. But he still pushed, even harder now that he was thinking about his teammates. He couldn't let them down...wouldn't let them down. His team was his world, and the only people he cared about, there was no way he could fail. Edson Marshall was 17, and the youngest person to ever make the national team of Calmerica. Soccer was his life. His entire life. From the age of 3 Edson was kicking soccer balls and shouting "Goal!" every time Jarak scored. Jarak SC was his favorite team since birth, and when the tryouts of 2009 rolled around, he stood out. Edson Marshall was fresh out of high school, no college plans, and nothing to do but play soccer.

The rest, as they say, is history. And look at him now; a starter on the national team not two years after signing with Jarak. Running up and down the stadium steps reminded him of that day, the day when he became a soccer player. Of course no one really knew him, especially outside of Jarak. He was on the team, sure, but a midfielder. Primarily used on defense, Marshall had never scored a goal. The World Cup would change everything. Coach Vesti promised him chances to score, opportunities to be a star, which was exactly what Marshall wanted. Heck, who didn't want that?

He'd been running for a solid 32 minutes before he slowly came to a halt at the top of Diarch Field, section 13. It was here that the Calmerica Royals would host Swartaz on the 23rd of January- 12 days from now. They shipped out to Carastogal tomorrow night in preparation for their first international friendly of the 54th World Cup. Sure, it really didn't have a barring on anything but it was still Marshall's first international match. That was a big deal. So he'd been running every night for 3 hours, taking 10 minute breaks every half hour. Then he slept for five hours, woke up, worked out for an hour, played soccer with his mates, and went about his day. He assumed no one saw him running, which was fine. It was an internal pride that only he could know, and that was plenty fine with Edson Marshall. He knew the stakes, he knew the formidable foe about to face them, and wasn't leaving anything to chance.

"No way in hell am I losing my first match," stated Marshall to himself, as he walked out of Diarch Field.

"Here comes Aduna down the middle...a short pass to Stevenson, and that's a beautiful lob to Sharp who controls it beautifully...he's past one...past two, its him against the keeper and he buries it in the bottom left hand corner! That's his hat-trick and it's 3-0 to the FSSO!

"Hey Dad, we just scored!"

Injured FSSO (Socialist States Owen) goalkeeper Craig Castleton walked into the lounge of his hotel room to see his teammate wheel away in celebration on the screen. "Good to see Lee's back in form. We'll need him to play like this in the qualifying." His son turned to him looking curious. "Do you think you will play in this one Dad?" Craig shrugged. "Hopefully. We'll have to see how Daniel plays though, won't we?" Lee Sharp is the FSSO's best striker - with 31 goals from 57 caps, he is one of the most prolific too. Him and James McCroft, a right midfielder, are the sides two recognised world class players. However this would be the countrys first world cup, so the whole team will need to be on form. Craig sat down and let out a sigh. This victory wouldn't keep the FSSO in the Baptism of Fire, but it was better than finishing the group stages without a win. The World Cup was insight.

None of this was actually in English. Some of it wasn't even said out loud, or even mentally formulated in a particularly melodic way, but it's just good to know.

"It's not quite the World Cup, yet," said the bartender. "Not even the first of those...what are they called, some newfangled zonal thingy."

"I know, I know," said Beto, idly throwing a newspaper article detailing Aguazul's new roster in the trash. "But, I mean, it's about time for teams to be picking their rosters, isn't it?"

"Right. Which is why we already have ours...who's it, now, Saavedra's back?"

"Yeah, we're good. I'm more concerned about The Holy Empire."

"The Holy...what, who hosted the World Cup?" Come to think of it, their team when Aguazul had faced them had been...had been...very good.

"Right."

"They'll be fine."

"I'm not sure. I thought I heard they were looking for players."

"I'm quite sure they'll be fine."

"What comes in elevens, anyway? It'd make it tricky."

"24 packs of beer, after you've finished one half and started the next," muttered the bartender.

"What?"

"Nothing!" he said, glancing down at his fingers anyway to corroborate.

"Although, strictly speaking it's 23 to form a roster...hey," said Beto. "There are 24 packs of beer in a case, and...they're missing their assistant coach, too..."

La Verdad

Squad set for qualifiers

A mix of old and new faces lead the way for Aguazul as it prepares for the World Cup 54 qualifiers. That is to say, the zonal phase thereof; Aguazul will need to progress through two phases of qualifying if it is to qualify for another World Cup. While Pelayo Sortani's streak of two quarterfinal appearances in two attempts might not be on the level of Julio Becerril's success, there's still a lot to live up to.

Perhaps the biggest "new" arrival to the team is a returning Rubén Saavedra. He left the scene just when Sortani was arriving on it, but if he's good enough to start for a club recently in the top ten of the UICA rankings, he's good enough for Sortani. And concerns about Saavedra's goalscoring total seem to be no longer significant with Gunsedal Cisneros so successful; Saavedra will spend most of the time on the bench, anyway, having taken the former uniform number of Naike Leiva. Having a true goalscorer without much in the creativity department, wear number 21 is proof that the days of the setup with one committed goalscorer and one setup man are, if nothing else, less than ongoing. That said, Cisneros still has some flair that Vincente Aspe lacks, and will be more likely to assist the latter than the other way around.

Leiva's departure means that the Liga Sargossa will not be represented among Aguazul's roster, also due to the omission of Ederoño Manderiaga. With most players, winning a TQCC title is a sign that you should include them on the team, but the unspellable netminder became increasingly complacent as his trophy case enlarged, preferring to appreciate what had already been won than worry about future challenges.

Although, come to think of it, for a goalkeeper that's maybe not such a bad thing...

Anyway, Jimeno Arellano replaces him on the roster, while Vedillo Bazán and the starting defense hold down their spots. New on the bench is Ruberte Cadena, the first player from Blén CA to make the national team. In the midfield comes the only change in the starting lineup; Sergio Bustamante has been dropped after deteriorating seasons of Atlético Jutense, which means that Aguazul will actually have to think about who takes free kicks, Blas Pulido joins the (let's face it, deservingly large) Unión de Ciudagua contingent on the national team, and Pedro Sanchez, so long considered "the future", finally gets a chance to start. We'll see if it was worth the wait.

Across from him, of course, comes our captain, Gerardo Riquelme. Exactly what he figured out at halftime of our last quarterfinal is unclear, but for the second half he played, not just the excellent football he's known for, but an unusually beautiful version of the game. It seemed like it might be a fitting finish to his career, but no; in fact, he's moved up to the even bigger time with a transfer to Petardos S/A, and that's certainly good enough for Sortani. Blushing, Riquelme says just that "I really started seeing the game well that second half, I don't know how to put it, but yes, I think I could do it again. When I transferred to Dunboor..." He trailed off, seeming to lose his focus, before continuing, "Well, I was hoping I'd get to play for some time still, and...yeah, that's the plan!"

How far can he lead Aguazul? There's only one way to find out.

Well. Two. This system is going to take some getting used to.

*

I did my best to notice
All the blankness on the field.
Out there beyond the last defender
I could see the game revealed.
And though I still get nervous
When I see that open grass,
Opened my eyes wide and
Made the pass.

Is it sunrise
Or are we burning?
The signs are blurry
Hands by my side
And I'm on my feet
Still the world is turning.
Is it sunrise
Or are we burning?

Pay my respects where I should pay them.
Send condolences where I should.
Give my regards where I should give them
And say I did the best I could.
I can't trust in devotion,
Be sure of what I claim to know.
Saying it's just as well
I have to let it go.

Will the system be all right
When the world is set alight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know, should I still be grieving?

*

"You did what?" said Lucas Prado, who was from Aguazul's football association.

"I informed Miscellanator, Ltd. that Aguazul would be willing to play some friendly matches in the Publishers Cup."

"And what gave you the idea that...that...was a good idea?"

"Because it doesn't hurt us to get some experience, this'll be a shorter campaign than the last few even assuming we make it, and we approve of the process of helping an Ltd. gain some market experience."

"And...that...Casaran shimdig of playing teams with comparable records is a good idea because..."

"Because it provides the Ltd. with more experience," said Sortani, by then somewhat unnerved.

Prado sighed. "Sit down. This could take a while."

Another World Cup, Another Hope!

Reporter John Dark

With the World Cup being only a Week away, Khytenna are gearing up for yet another attempt at qualification, and hope to be on that plane to either the BI or the Cassadaigua. Coach also announced last week the Khytennan national Squad that will be taking on new challenges with the hopes of the nation behind them.

We took to the training ground to visit the head Coach Tyler Proctor for more news on the team and he is hopes and expectations of the qualification ahead.

“As always, i am very optimistic about the team, we have taken on big teams before and we have beaten them! Numbers of ranks don’t fear us, every team that we will face on the pitch is just another that needs to be beaten, Okay, some may be better then others , however we will treat all teams the same and look to win all our game”

Proctor also spoke well of his player in the squad;

“as for the team, well, there a good bunch of players who’s talent and skill have gained international recognition, we gel well as a squad, i think this year will be a very good year for Khytennan.”

We also spoke to him about last qualification, where it has been said the Khytenna under preformed.

“Was i disappointed that we didn’t do too well last year? Sure i was! But we just have to take it on the chin and more on, hopefully with the new set up this year, we can work it for our advantage”

With the squad being announced, RKN would like give details about the players. Here is our small report.

Keepers:

Always a difficult one to judge who will start for Khytenna, all three Keepers (Welte, Gatton and Troy) have shown that they are all capable at performing at top level and are all as good as each over. Troy has been exceptionally good in league action, and also was good in other tournaments for Khytenna

Defence:

Some would say this is an open and shut case, Ursua, Testerman, Bohannan and Vancil are some of the best players in Khytennan, Testerman is an awesome defender and player, who is known playing in the leagues of Cafundeu! Ursua and Vancil are always good players in the League and Bohannan has been playing great in the Grey Harbour leagues. However, we know from experience that players like Berkley and showman have always been involved in first team action, also Bowman is become a good player for Blue Bay.

Midfield:

Always good players in the midfield, and are always vying for positions in the line-up. Captain Thorne is an amazing leader and will most deffinatly be involved with the line-up. Players like KG, Carmichael and Deshazior will be also good options to have in the center, with Rusek there to play more of a midfield support in Defensive midfield. The left Wing posision has always been with Ringwood, but players like Jolin and Pittenger have been great in the leagues, Ringwood isn’t going to be best for long, he is a good player but age is getting to him.

Attaking:

Firestone without doubt is the first option to play up front, that kid as amazing talent and skill it is unreal! But Now that Syd has retired, the Question is who will play next to him? Pellett and Hytan have also been trying to get that spot next to him on the team, but know with Blaylock on the team, who, has been a fantastic play in recent game, its hard to tell who will be playing up front.

So, our first friendly will be against Gray Harbour and we will also be there to report and give news all the result and updates on the squad and team news.

Also we can announce that in some editions, we will be getting a new section.

Allan Syd will be making some contribution to our team news, in his new section Syd’s Scoop!

RKN will be there, will you be too?

World Cup 54: RP thread

Postby Consortina » Wed Jan 12, 2011 7:45 am

After Consortinas dismissal in the Baptism of Fire, preparation for the World Cup is underway. Hartmut Wildgrimson has invited a whole bunch of new players to the trainings camp (we will introduce their faces soon enough) while the homebound stars and the journals are predictably beginning to launch their attacks at the head coach.

“This is anticipatory obedience towards a nonexistent clause” rants Yao Ming. The Midfielder from Heidesand IF is part of a small coalition of players with foreign roots who immigrated to Consortina but chose not to complete the immigration process. Ming acquired second-stage immigration six years ago but he still is registered to vote in his home country Jintao. “To me it is a matter of keeping a few ties to my cultural heritage – and also most of my family if I may add. Nonetheless, I identify myself with Consortinean society and I am much more a citizen here than I am in asia. Denying me the opportunity to play just because I failed to predict an arbitrary ruling by the CSD is just stupid. I miss out on national level soccer and the CSD misses out on much potential that slumbers in Consortina.

Yao is not alone with his criticism of CSD politics but so far nothing could sway the opinion of federation executive Johan Olegard. He has issued the decree for the young federation to ‘play it safe’ and don’t challenge rulings of the world football until they had more of a foothold. Confronted with criticism that by the letter of the law, Consortinas second stage immigrants most likely would be able to play, he shrugs and issues the usual reply. ‘Possibly. But also possible is that this is not merely about federation rules. Maybe I recommended not to consider second-stage immigrants because they are still eligible to play for their home nation and I want a clear commitment for Consortina from any player that is allowed in the squad. So is it case closed, then? For World Cup 55, some players may go the way of Boris Krok and immediately strive for full immigration but issues of pride and nationality may not be cast aside by everyone that quickly.

Meanwhile, the results in the Baptism of Fire may ignite a second front. The female players of Consortina are beginning to challenge the CSD’s decision not to include them in the lineup more vigorous than ever before. Annalena Kustman issued a statement in the Pristine Observer citing the success of the Andromeda Islands. ‘The Eagles show us how it can be done. An all-female team can have all the skill and determination that is needed to prevail in this championship. It is bad enough, our leagues are – mostly – separated but at least in the national squad where we all play under the same banner there should be no segregation. On one hand we say that we want more fresh talent but then we discard half of them. Is this supposed not to make sense?’

Olegards reply has yet to arrive. In the past he rejected the idea of a mixed team because he wanted to avoid fault lines within the national squad at all costs. But doing this may just widen the fault line under his position. Several authorities in Consortina have already spoken up for giving the women their fair chance. ‘Currently you might even debate about whether we shouldn’t rather send the female squad instead’ quipped retired coach Soren Malmgren although this was immediately after Consortinas defeat in the Baptism. The question about the sex composition threatens Olegards head since a bad World Cup will surely be attributed to his decisions during the creation of the squad. He sticks to his course for now but it might turn out to be a dead end.

Women's Lifestyle - Special Edition

Finding that the country is very athletically centered we here at Women's Lifestyle saw an opportunity to include an angle of the World Cup that not many people get to see. The World Cup in Tarrentum is a lonely affair for the Tarrentian woman. The Allied States team is made up of men with only one woman, Noel Gennese, on the squad. The coaching staff is much more balanced with the Head coach Delphine Gabriella Italiana and the Manager, Daestegwen Dlartanina. Many people only came to know of Ms. Dlartanina when the Tarrentum Sports Committee (TSC) hired her to replace the out of favor Gregori Burindi. The hire of Ms. Dlartanina, a Sylvanae from The Queendom of Dorian and Sonya, seemed an odd choice at first. Yet the Committee Chair, Tresare Vittaro, saw something in Ms. Dlartanina that sparked some interest.

"Perhaps it was fate, perhaps it was her 'exotic-ness'; something about Daestegwen helped sway the Committee to seeing her as the best candidtate for the job." Dlartanina was the only non-Tarrentian from Atlantian Oceania to apply for the vacated managerial position and the TSC soon got direct affirmation that they made the right choice. The new manager's first test was World Cup 53. She was walking into a position where Burindi had just been fired as the Manager but retained by the TSC as Security Consultant. A conflict of interest to be sure, but something that did not distract Ms. Dlartanina from her duties. "She has an exceptional talent for focusing people on the task at hand," Alexander Italiana said. "She herself can drown out the drone of outside distractions to remain clearheaded about what needed to be done next." Italiana, uncle to the Supreme President, CEO of Yupper FoodBrands and Assistant Manager for the National Squad, was right in the thick of Burindi's meltdown during the Queen's Cup tournament in Cassadaigua. "I saw how Daestegwen could turn a bad situation [after Burindi's firing] into something tremendous, in fact, the whole world saw her abilities on display. "

Dlartanina, 150 years old, led the Falcons to a surprising 2nd place finish in the Group Stage. This was accomplished by beating out heavyweight Landau Institute and late pushes by emerging nations in Group 13. Although the Falcons failed to move past the Round of 32, no one thought they would even sniff advancement. Dlartanina had introduced a flowing, fluid game style that the footballers took some time getting used to during the Group Stage. “The half-way break during the Groups last year helped us out tremendously,” Henry Qund, star of the National Squad, said just this last week. “We were able to focus on conditioning and positioning so that Dlartanina could exploit us to our fullest.” While the team didn’t make it very far after the Group Stage, the eventually victory by the Queendom solidified Dlartanina’s position as manager and her playing philosophy. Many analysts said that if Dlartanina has any longevity as the National Team’s Manager, the Sylvane-style of football may become the primary method of teaching young Tarrentians the game.

So who is this fascinating individual? This exotic person from across Atlantian Oceania? Women’s Lifestyle contacted Ms. Dlartanina for an exclusive interview. We met up with the Manager in a posh Krozuy Hotel where the national squad was staying during their preparations for World Cup 54. Ms. Dlartanina came flowing into the room we had reserved wearing a resplendent full-length dress and cloak, both were made in the Queendom and both seemed perfectly fitted to her figure. Ms. Dlartanina was very grateful for the opportunity to speak with us about her life, her time here in Tarrentum and her campaign to find other Sylvanae living unbeknownst in Tarrentum society.

Daestegwen grew up in her native Dorian and Sonya like many young Sylvanae, learning about the woods. “You should know,” Dlartanina said, “that it wasn’t just the woods we learned about but how to find fulfillment in the sighs of a willow tree, how to identify each animal by its footfall, how to find the vegetation that could cure or wound someone. A typical childhood in the Queendom to say the least.” When she was 10 Dlartanina was accepted into the Queen’s College, an institute that traces its lineage back “well before the Imperium was even conceived in the minds of Casaro and Farus.” Queen’s College was not like Tarrentian colleges and universities but focused on developing young Sylvanae, mostly women, into productive members of society.

When she was 50 years old Daestegwen Dlartanina took up football at Queen’s College. Dlartanina herself admitted that she was reluctant. “There were others who had been playing football since the age of 7 but I found myself drawn to the sport. Perhaps it was being spurned by a boyfriend at the time, perhaps I knew that I would be good at it?” Dlartanina found that she was good at it – but not compared to other members of the collegiate squad. “They asked me not to come back after the second practice,” she said laughing. Yet Dlartanina did come back something that she attributes to her persevering attitude. “I didn’t want to stop, I didn’t want to fail. I came back and gradually learned the nuances of the game.

When she finally left Queen’s College at the age of 75, still a young woman to the Sylvanae, she thought she was going to go into public service. “Yet there were offers from some of the domestic squads. I decided to take a chance.” She accepted the offer from lowly White Hall Faeiries after 14 years the Faeiries approached her with a unique opportunity – to join the managerial staff of the football club. “I had no coaching experience and had barely stayed on the club’s roster the first couple of years.” Still the Faeiries saw something desirable from the 89 year old and decided to take a chance.

The move proved to be a new starting point for Dlartanina. “It was something very rare for a Sylvanae, to start anew after choosing your path. Athletic coaching is highly respected but usually borne out of training throughout your schooling.” Still the knack for reading situations was readily apparent and after 20 season as a position coach, she was promoted to assistant coach for White Hall. Dlartanina also accepted a teaching position at the prestigious Sylvanae Youth Football Academy around that same time. She continued coaching and teaching and soon had White Hall competing for the league championship, which the club eventually won. “I was proud of my students from the Academy, some of whom I coached at White Hall, for realizing their full potential.” She also takes great pride in that some of her students are now on the World Champion Mystical Unicorns, the national team for the Queendom.

It was this success that led to Dlartanina’s hiring as the new manager of the Falcons. “A leap of faith against the current,” was how she explained her move to Tarrentum in our interview. Still she realizes that she made a great decision. “Sadly, I could have waited my whole life and not had this opportunity had I stayed in the Queendom.” This, combined with the fact that she sees great things ahead in Tarrentum, helped her feel confident in her decision.

The conversation then turned to her campaign to unveil other Sylvanae living in Tarrentum. “I wish to find a conclave, somewhere that my people have been living to avoid detection. I know that I there are some out here with your tales of ‘elvish folk’ living in the Vardin Mountain Range.” While she has been earnestly trying since she took over the position, only one Sylvanae, Roderi Vanash, had come forward. The name of Vanash brings a steely look to Dlartanina’s eye. While we spoke off the record the reasoning is plain to see. Vanash took the opportunity to reveal himself as a stepping stone to something greater. His lack of acceptance as a star turned to vitriolic hatred towards Tarrentians. He started to write pamphlets and articles in local newspapers spouting extremist views. The young Sylvanae, only 75 years old, was murdered in the village of Vardin Run after becoming drunk one night and attempting to break into the Supreme Mayor’s Residence in the small town. This episode has not dissuaded Dlartanina in the least. “I know I’ll find my kin.

Sam: Hello, this is Sam Sallad for Naked News Jeruselem. I'm with the Jeruselem world cup coach Katrina or Kat Kool and her relative on the team, young Katherine or Kate Kool.
Kat: It's funny all of us here have same letter in our names.
Sam: On that topic, how come all the female Kools always have K is first name?
Kat: I don't know why we do it.
Kate: I'm going to call my daughter Kitty Kool.
Sam: How does it feel to be given task of guiding the Jeruselem world cup team?
Kat: I wasn't expecting it really.
Sam: And young Kate here got picked to play, her Mum Kara must be proud.
Kat: Well, us Kools are always striving for more.
Sam: So Kate, following your mother's career?
Kate: I guess so. Say, your mother's name was Kate too?
Sam: Yes, Kate Sallad the world cup player and captain. Not to be confused with Kate Dallas, who happens to be the King's mother.
Kate: It's a great name to have.
Sam: Do you feel any pressure?
Kat: I suppose I do but not at the moment.
Kate: I don't know. It's all new for me.
Sam: What would be a successful cup for you?
Kat: Well, qualification first and then maybe making a quarter final.
Kate: winning the cup for once would be mine.
Sam: Does the fact the girls from Dorian and Sonya won the last cup inspire the girls?
Kat: Well, considering we and them progressed from a group with Cassadaigua in it to the 2nd round. Anything can happen.
Kate: I wouldn't be wearing those bikinis they wear.
Sam: It's more than I wear at work.
Kat: But you spend the whole day wearing nothing.
Kate: We're not like a Dallas or Sallad.
Sam: Well, thanks for your time.
Kat: Thanks Sam
Kate: Where'd you get those shoes?

Keith Olds - Announcer
Michelle Lee – Commentator and former Assistant Coach
Madeleine Mann – Commentator and former Player

Olds: This afternoon, the Andromeda National Football Team was chosen. With us tonight are former National Team Assistant Coach Michelle Lee and the Team MVP of the 41st Baptism of Fire Madeleine Mann. After many unfortunate incidents during the AFA Men’s Season, it’s no surprise that this edition of the Andromeda Eagles is entirely female.

Lee: Unfortunate, yes.

Olds: Let’s start with the coaching staff. No real surprises here.

Lee: Diana Lazzaro led the Andromeda Eagles to winning the Baptism of Fire last year and she led the Joppa Jaguars to three straight AFA Titles. No surprise.

Mann: And during the last two years, she faced Rachel Madden and the Angeles City Sun Spots. Madden played under Lazzaro in the MacFarlan Premier League before she started coaching the Sun Spots.

Olds: And how about the front line players, the forwards?

Lee: Again, no real surprises. Most of the front line players play for Lazzaro during the season. The rest are among the top 10 in goals scored last season.

Mann: The surprise was how many players on the Jaguars had five players among the top 10 goal scorers. Their mid-season signing of Catherine Zeta Watson was a surprise and a godsend.

Lee: Based on goals alone, Watson should be a frontline starter, but she’s listed as a reserve midfielder. I think Lazzaro may be wary because of her lack of experience.

Olds: What about the other midfielders?

Lee: Once again, people are concerned about why Melissa Alexander made the National Team again. Other than having the First Lady as her aunt, there’s no justification for her spot on the squad.

Mann: Melissa Alexander is a decent midfielder and she played on the Baptism of Fire squad that won the Tournament.

Lee: You mean she sat on the bench. And what about Jennifer Cohen? We know she’s Elizabeth Gordon’s younger sister, but why is she there?

Mann: The Andromeda Lady Senators have been among the top three teams every year. Jennifer Cohen played for them and the Baptism of Fire squad.

Olds: Let’s skip the backfield for a moment and get to the goalies. What about Parker and Korsakova?

Mann: Parker’s teams have finished second every year in the Regular Season and Korsakova’s teams have finished second every year in the playoffs.

Olds: What about Antonia James? Her teams finished first in both the Regular Season and the playoffs.

Mann: With the number of scorers on the Lady Jaguars, James can get by with allowing a goal or two. Besides, it would look bad to have half the National Team come from one squad.

Olds: And finally, the backfield.

Lee: I’m not sure of Coach Lazzaro’s reasoning behind these picks. Asha Maharashtra, the current Miss Andromeda, looks more suited for the catwalk than the pitch. Kim Eun Ji’s team didn’t even make the playoffs. And Becky Nichols… she’s pretty and all, but I don’t see it.

Mann: First of all, St. Paul has made the playoffs every year. They needed at least one player on the National Team and Nichols has the most experience. Second, Kim Eun Ji was part of an eight-game turn around for Busan. They missed the eighth playoff spot by one game.

Olds: What about Asha?

Mann: One of the sharpest defenders for the Sun Spots. The Portsmouth Pirates in the Men’s League have the Steel Curtain, the National Team has the Velvet Rope. They look good, but they won’t let you get past them.

Olds: We’ll see if the Velvet Rope holds up. With Michelle Lee and Madeleine Mann, I’m Keith Olds. Back to you, Craig!

PAP Sports
World Cup 54, Here We Come!

With the World Cup drawings right around the corner, we decided it would be a good to examine our starting XI and fix Steven Sanchez's heavily criticizes ratings.
Goalkeepers:
Image
Frank Roderick: According to Steven Sanchez, he has become a better, stronger goalkeeper that has improved on his weakness such as 1v1 and crosses.
Antonio Alvarez: Has matured since his poor performances during the last World Cup. Although not a world class goalkeeper, he has become more reliable and overall a better keeper.
Rating: 80; As much as we would like to think our keepers are world class, they aren't. They good--great actually, but they aren't amazing either.
Defenders:
Image
Carlos Ramos: Good defender, fast but the thing is, he attacks too much. He's supposed to defend, but it seems that way too often, he's trying to score a goal of his own or trying to at least get an assist. It would be better if he wasn't labeled as a LB, but maybe as a winger.
Robert Henry: His intelligence and his energy has helped make smart choices. He's also slow. Not sluggish slow, but too slow to be on a professional football field. Either way, he's a great defender.
Rafael Herrera: His courage and his speed make him a great defender. He does what he has to do, whether it costs him a yellow card or maybe a red card! So far he's only received one yellow card, but lets hope for the sake of the defense he doesn't receive a red card.
Rick Martin: Confident; Fast. Many see him as the future of PAP's defense. His confidence though makes him sometimes lose possession.
Andrew Stone: He recently graduated to the full squad, so we can't say much about him. Hopefully he's a good defender.
Michael Rent: Was replaced by Rick Martin. I believe that it was because Sanchez felt Martin needed a chance to prove himself.
Rating: 81/82; Our defense has a combination of speed and energy but lacks intelligence and commitment.
Midfield:
Image
Samuel Taylor: Fast and intelligent. He is more of a passing type of guy so he rarely shoots.
Hugo Mendoza: Already one of the best players on the team. His accuracy, his strength, his dribbling and his speed has earned him a spot on Starting XI. He shows a lot of potential. His confidence sometimes over powers him and causes him to trying crazy things, ultimately causing him to lose the ball.
Robert Figo: A combination of leadership skills, speed and dribbling have made him the team captain and one of the most important.
Javier Zepeda: He's quick and has a lot of enthusiasm, but doesn't affect the team that much. He does his part and for that, we congratulate him.
Cameron Inright: All he wants to do is play. He missed out on most of the last World Cup (he was replaced by Hugo Mendoza) and wishes to get some first team play this World Cup.
Gerard Mann: He's talented. His tenancy to dive though, I don't like it.
Rating: 85; I will agree with Steven Sanchez on this one. We strongest in the midfield, with Figo and Mendoza dominating the midfield. It has the most potential and it is the heart of the team.
Offense/Attack:
Image
Fransisco Gonzalez: Words can not describe him. He's amazing, but a major slump in the middle of the qualification rounds cost him (and the team) dearly. His speed, his intelligence, his dribbling skills and his accuracy has made him the best player on the the team. We have high expectations for him.
Louis Zizi: Gonzalez's companion and the source of most of the assists. Don't underestimate him though, he can come out from the shadows and stun any team with a goal. In fact, while Gonzalez was in his slump, he and Mendoza were the source of most of the goals.
Jacob Ashley: He has represented PAP in many other tournaments and has gained a lot of experience. He has replaced Ronald McGuire. He's fast but he's not a goalscorer.
Paul Roberts: He's a strange fellow. He's quiet and shy. He rarely talks during training sessions. He's very calm and chill, but has shown he's very talented during training sessions.
Rating: 89 87; I can hear everyone complaining about how low this rating is. But honestly, Gonzalez is the only truly good player in this category. So you know what? I'm lowering it to an 87. Zizi is talented but it looks like he belongs more in the midfield. Maybe change Zizi for Mendoza? Hey, not a bad idea...

Hopefully we can improve on our 9-4-5 record from last World Cup and our 31 points earned.

And welcome to OBC SportsCentral, your center in everything sport!

Jan: Hello, and welcome to SportsCentral on the eve of yet another exciting World Cup, number 54! I'm Jan Kilinen, your anchor tonight, with sports analysts Willy Mieke, Kenny Cisle, Riki Doline, and Margot Jannus! Well, we may not have qualified all of our other WCs, but what do you 4 think about this time?

Willy: Honestly, Jan, it's a wild card. All of the other World Cups were probably lost because we weren't active enough, and didn't train hard enough. But, with the new coach entering, it could go any way this time.

Kenny: I agree with Willy. Coach Amundsen publicly stated he plans on being proactive this time, and based on commentary from his friends and family about honesty, I think this will be a promise that he'll uphold.

Riki: I object, actually. Based on performance from the past, it isn't looking optimistic, even in the pre-qualifiers. I, to be frank, don't think the masses will be cheering much this time until we become more well-known, more prolific.

Margot: I strongly disagree with all of you, I think Orlkjestad will at least qualify this time. I fully trust Coach Amundsen on this and his plays. Serving as coach of FC Svolaarei, he led them to victory almost every other year. I'll admit, it may be harder to do the same with a team such as the national team, but I trust him to the fullest extent.

Jan: So, we have 2 wild cards, 1 disagree, 1 agree. That means the majority agree that it'll be a wild card, but we have to remember this isn't final, and ultimately it's Coach Amundsen and the team that decides. it's all up to them this time, and all we can do is sit back and enjoy the show. After this commercial break is this week's highlights in football, basketball, and rugby, and an interview with GM of the Kolsvabard Highland Lions. And all that's after this commercial break!

Program: Jon & Drew Weekly
Episode: 54th World Cup Preview

Jon Hergensson (JH): Evening all, and welcome to Jon & Drew Weekly, where we cover all things relating to national sports here in Calmerica, sponsored by Tempo. I'm Jon Hergensson, and with me is my partner, Drew Westen.
Drew Westen (DW): 'ello Jon...what is happening around Calmerica today?
JH: Well other than the NLS getting underway, we have big soccer news. The 54th World Cup is set to begin, with matches beginning in just five days for the SC of Calmerica.
DW: Big news indeed. And we will get to the NLS in a bit by the way, some big news there with Atasamon dominating Latroni, Coastline AC upsetting Aland, and Jarak winning the Senti Suprani. But the World Cup is going to be fantastic! Cassadaigua and The Babbage Islands are hosting, its Calmerica's first World Cup, it's a great time to be a soccer fan mate.
JH: Yeah I definitely agree. I mean what else could you be doing as a fan of Calmerican sports other than waiting for SC of C soccer to begin? This is going to be huge...no, bigger than huge. Whats bigger than huge Drew?
DW: Haha, well I'd have to go with enormous, but I'm not sure. I am sure that the first friendly of the World Cup for Calmerica, against Carastoga will be a tough one --
JH: Oh please, a tough one? The Royals have that in the bag. They're new, less experienced, and not much of a soccer team I'd say.
DW: Well well well...aren't we presumptuous. Couldn't you say the same thing about the Royals?
JH: No way. They've played international matches, competed in regional cups...they'll be ready. The first match, I'm predicting, will be 3-0 in favor of the Royals.
DW: Bold move there Jon. I agree it'll be a victory, but 3-2 is my guess. The offensive style play of the Royals gives them the advantage, but Carastoga is respectable in many regards as well. SC of C's goalkeeper is out for a couple weeks, so don't be surprised to see a couple come out of Carastoga.
JH: You make a good point...I'd forgotten about Cobi Ricketts getting injured in that nasty play during the Senti Suprani. The replacement is, eh...
DW: Caston Beringsson. He's from the Atasamon Aggies, super Keeper if you ask me. He'll fill in nicely, and if he manages to get a clean sheet, don't be surprised to see him start the rest of the way. In any case, its going to be the biggest soccer event in Calmerica's history.
JH: Quite possibly, yeah. Now onto NLS news. Jarak SC was really......................................................

It's time for another World Cup, and the news just keeps pouring in!

Ganz Ijak's successor has been named at last; it's Michelle Germaine of Delaclava. And like her predecessor, she takes over in a cycle where the Bumblebees play in the Sarzo and a few other matches but are exempt from qualifying as a host nation. But unlike Ganz, she takes on an established side ranked in the world's top five. The heat's turned up a bit.

I like Michelle's style, and think she'll do well here. However, watching a three-forward alignment in yellow-and-black will still take some getting used to.

A lot of people thought Allison Salamida would swing the top job. Don't cry for her -- she's getting her shot at the big time as well. Averill Robinson has stepped down as manager of Belgium FC to spend more time with family. And Kirsten and Chip Woods were chomping at the bit to bring their one-time star back into the fold. So Allison takes over world #36 Belgium just in time for the opening of the TakilQuip Champions' Cup schedule.

The kerfluffle over the two-stage qualifying has settled a bit as more details are finalised. Which is really good for our wedding plans, as Dick is busy enough with the minutiae of another Cup without kerfluffles.

You have to like Valanora's chances to win it all. They've opened a huge gap in the recent KPBs, more than ten full points over the Han in second and the Bumblebees in third. Albundania stand fourth. Cassadaigua slipped to fifth, but they're right in there with us still. Reigning champs Dorian and Sonya leap to sixth.

Next time I'll take a look at Michelle's roster choices for the upcoming campaign.

Smile!
