Copa Rushmori 36 [RPs/rosters/scores]

Postby Graintfjall » Fri Nov 06, 2020 4:09 pm

Welcome to the 36th edition of the Copa Rushmori, being co-hosted by two nations that can be filed into that curious “have historically been part of Rushmore for time immemorial yet have only popped onto the world stage in recent months” category that, happily, seems to continue steadily growing.

32 teams have entered this Copa, marking a slight increase – and resulting format change – from the previous edition. Teams will be drawn into eight groups, four playing in Græntfjall, four in Tikariot. Each group of four teams will play a single round robin group stage; the top two teams from each group will progress to a Round of 16. A group draw was coordinated between Græntfjall and Tikariot officials.

The seedings for the group stage are as follows:

Pot 1: Nephara, Eura, Savojarna, Pasarga, Cassadaigua, Sargossa, Valladares, Darmen

Pot 2: Taeshan, Southwest Eastnorth, Eastfield Lodge, Crystalline Caverns, Græntfjall*, Pridnestrovia, Oberour Ar Moro, Astograth

Pot 3: Plane of Possibility, Mavinet, Yuezhou, Falkyr, Rea San Vegas, Nethertopia, Tikariot*, Mytanija**

Pot 4: Mytanija, Hispinas, Yeet Nationss, Nacaltora, Nyowani Kitara, Thibaea, South Jeolerina, Bleronia, Charruterra

* The hosts will not be given Pot 1 seedings. However, Græntfjall will be drawn automatically into Group A and Tikariot automatically into Group E, in order that they can play at home. (The OOC users will scorinate games in the alternate country, to preserve neutrality.)

** With 9 unranked teams in Pot 4, Mytanija was randomly selected as a Pot 3 team and drawn as such.

Tikariot at a glance

Tikariot is a nation in Rushmore of approximately 52 million people, bordering The Kytler Peninsulae to the west, Græntfjall to the north, Weatherdon to the northeast and Nyowani Kitara to the southeast. It has 15 provinces ranging from nordic continental to tropic and everything in between. Despite having a thriving economy, Tikariotian businesses are bound by strict environmental laws to preserve the country for generations to come.

Before you arrive

While being a quite liberal country, there are some restrictions on what is allowed to be brought into the country. Hard drugs are forbidden as are any kind of weapons or endangered animals (dead or alive). Alcohol and tobacco can be brought into the country in limited quantities. It is also advised you familiarize yourself with the climate of the region(s) you travel to as the weather and temperatures can be very different.
Main port of entry is Port Rhovanyon International Airport, also the hub for Tikariot Owlways, with Alcassar and Tikariot City the two other major airports.

Getting around

Tikariot is a fairly large country, but has a very well developed transportation network. Tikariot Owlways operates several daily flights between all provincial capitals with some provincial subsidiaries taking care of flights to smaller destinations. There also is a high-speed train network connecting the larger cities, mostly powered by solar energy, making them a viable alternative to aviation. Most big cities have very well developed public transit with both underground and light rail trains, buses, bike rentals and more, encouraging Tikariotians to leave their cars at home. In the more rural areas trains and buses will connect with smaller communities as well.

Wildlife

Large parts of Tikariot are wilderness, be it the large forests of Viljamark, the plains of Taeria or the subtropical forests of the Emerald Coast. There are clearly marked roads and paths in these areas, straying from them could result in encounters with wild life, friendly or hostile, the worst of which is the dangaroo. Breaking environmental laws is met with strict fines, especially in designated natural park areas.

Cuisine

The Tikariotian cuisine is as diverse as its climate, ranging from hearty Nordic stews and roasts in Viljamark and Xark to the exotic dishes of Acrassia. Street foods are an important staple of Tikariot, with vendors selling all kinds of delicacies off carts or take-out windows. The diversity also has seen an influx of vegetarian and vegan options, so almost any tourist should be able to find something to their liking.

Cities and stadiums
Oceanview Stadium (Port Rhovanyon, Rhovannyr), Capacity 63,000
The Oceanview Stadium is part of Port Rhovanyon's Sports City complex on the city's waterfront, which unites several sports venues, including the baseball stadium Oceanview Park as well as a multi-sports dome housing the Port Rhovanyon Kraken (Tikariot Hockey League) and Port Rhovanyon Attack (Tikariot Lacrosse League). The Oceanview Stadum is the home of reigning Tikariot Premier League champions Port Rhovanyon AFC and is a modern all-amenities arena with great acoustics to intensify the atmosphere.

Port Rhovanyon is the capital of Tikariot and is located at the edge of Rhovanyon Bay. Other than being the political centre of the country, it also is one of its busiest and most important sea ports, playing a major role in the export of Tikariotian products and resources. The old town around the harbour is a major tourist destination and is a designated "Area of Special Interest" with very tight regulation concerning construction to ensure the integrity of the historic quarters. The city also serves as transportation hub for the highspeed trains, going west to Morannon, north to Oriannor and west to Tikariot City.

All matches of group E will be played here.

Dragonscrest Stadium (Port Tacassam, Acrassia), Capacity 79,000
Located in the Acrassian port city of Port Tacassam, the Dragonscrest Stadium is one of Tikariot's architectural marvels when it comes to sports venues. Due to the often hot weather in Acrassia, the stadium has not only been built right into the north face of the impressive Dragonscrest Hill in the centre of the city for some protection against the searing sun, but also into the ground, making the concourse level with the surrounding area and a sunken in pitch, giving the stadium a unique feel, also due to the sheer rock face of Dragonscrest Hill towering over the south stands.

Port Tacassam is, as the name implies, another harbour on the east coast of Acrassia, facing the Gulf of Yavash. While always having stood in the shadow of Alcassar, also the Acrassian capital, to the west the city has carved out its own niche as one of Tikariot's two main shipyards together with Port Taras. There is not a lot of places of interest to the casual tourist other than the funicular up Dragonscrest Hill, which gives a great view over the city and the Gulf.

All matches of group F will be played here.

Dhaencunor Arena (Tikariot City, Dhaencunor), Capacity 84,000
The biggest of the four Copa Rushmori venues in Tikariot is the home to the Tikariot City FC. It is one of the most modern arenas in the country, with a retractable pitch that allows the arena to host other events such as concerts without any damage to the playing field. The arena facade is constructed of ERFE foil air panels that are kept inflated with dry air to a differential pressure of 3.5 Pa. The panels appear white from far away but when examined closely, there are little dots on the panels. When viewed from far away, the eye combines the dots and sees white. When viewed close up however, it is possible to see through the foil. Each panel can be independently lit with different colours. It also has integrated solar panels that power most of the stadium's electricity supply, making the Arena almost self-sufficient.

Tikariot City is the historic heart of Tikariot, with the citadel built on a rocky hill protruding into the Rhovanyon Bay at its centre. At the foot of the hill is the historic Old Town with many preserved buildings and the busy (and narrow) shopping street Fylkir's Lane, which is characterised by numerous high town houses side by side with its wrought iron guild signs. Many buildings contain picturesque passageways and courtyards. While a fairly large number of the historic residential house has been turned into commercial premises in recent decades, the Tikariot City administration has put strict laws into place to retain the street's authentic character.

All matches of group G will be played here.

Citadel of the North (Fort Viljan, Viljamark), Capacity 40,000
Despite the "citadel" in its name, the Citadel of the North is not really a fortress, but an innovative stadium located in the Viljan capital of Fort Viljan. Home to second division Fort Viljan Northern FC it is located at the edge of Lake Viljan and has a very unique feature, which is heating underneath the seats powered by geothermal power, taking the bite off the often cold winds coming in from the lake.

Fort Viljan is a picturesque town on the edge of large Lake Viljan, which serves as border with Græntfjall, Weatherdon and Nyowani Kitara. The city stretches across seven islands that extend into Lake Viljan, giving it a unique flair and during winter, when the bay Fort Viljan is located on, freezes over, locals and tourists alike use the canals between the islands for skating. The city is also renowned for its ice sculpture festival that takes place on the frozen canals every January. On the biggest of the islands you can find the old Fort Viljan, which once was an outpost of Viljamark, built to withstand attacks. It now serves as a museum of Viljan history and culture and is a popular tourist attraction.

All matches of group H will be played here.

Venues

All numbers are graded on a Græntfjaller curve. A 10/10 stadium here probably wouldn't pass 5 or 6 in a major footballing nation. 10/10 friendliness to foreigners doesn't mean they won't try to gouge you on hotel rates.

Florus Stadion [non-commercial name: Altendalur Stadion]
Altendalur is northwest port city and cultural hub of the West, a region that generally feels under the political thrall of the dominant East. It was built on whaling: the stadium is literally built on whaling, as a massive whale spine ornaments the main entrance gate. Home of the current GPL champions Chessmen, seats are in alternate black and white check patterns.
Stadium quality: 9/10
Friendliness to foreigners: 1/10

Frei Stadion
Located in the southwest city of Búðarberg, the capital of Fliserboding a broad, flat agricultural plain that is geographically and at times culturally at odds with the rest of Græntfjall. Perceived as the home of a rump pro-communist minority by the rest of the country. The local club, Fliserboding, is chiefly notable for their tradition of throwing cabbages on the field before each game. The stadium, while pretty, smells terrible as a result.
Stadium quality: 2
Friendliness to foreigners: 9

Grand National Arena
The main national stadium, the 50,000 seater used to be the country's only international-level sports facility. It is the most famous stadium in the country and home of multiple time champions Gunzlach, "the Gunners". The name reflects their origins in the old military arsenal stationed there. On the north side of Háttmark, the GNA is built in what remains a fairly conservative, working-class district, with rumblings of disquiet over recent immigrant arrivals and rapid house price rises in the wake of gentrification.
Stadium quality: 10
Friendliness to foreigners: 6

Grander International Arena
One of three newly built stadiums featured in the tournament, the 50,001 seater is home of Steinaux, "the Sausages". Their name is rooted in the working class meat processing and dock warehouse district, which has undergone substantial renovation. Unlike rivals Gunzlach across the river, Steinaux is now located in an upmarket neighborhood with tech and pharma jobs booming. That still hasn't helped the Sausages win any bloody trophies.
Stadium quality: 10.001
Friendliness to foreigners: 8

Laxenvöllur
Mühlrich is the club that's most representative of the conservative alpine traditions of the country. Based in the suburbs of Kyrkdorf, the "last city before the mountains", it's an old, traditional club, and the slightly fusty stadium reflects that. Lots of (now fairly dusty, the Turtles have seen better days) trophies in the cabinet, hard seats, and smoking still permitted in certain areas. Interestingly, the stadium itself isn't that old as it has burned down four times. Smoking remains stubbornly permitted. The Turtle Ultras are the most radical Ultras in the country. Racist chanting has mostly been stamped out, but it's not a place to go for provoking intellectual discourse.
Stadium quality: 3
Friendliness to foreigners: 1

New Skoðarhüb [non-commercial name: Hartburg New Park
Located in Hartburg, the gateway to Lake Viljan. Bypassing the Alps, which dominate the southern half of the country, requires going through the Estdal Gate, once a turnpike, now one of the busiest commercial bridges in the country, connecting the industrial heartlands with the Rushmori interior. That name lives on in the Ducks, the team whose sponsors Skoðar Optik have invested heavily in foreign managers, players, and now a new stadium. Not state of the art by international standards, but some of the lifts actually work and the coffee machine does cappucinos! Witchcraft!!
Stadium quality: 9
Friendliness to foreigners: 7

OptiFone Arena [non-commercial name: Folte Arena
Folte is a market town that lies just south of Aigsvinger, the city that sits at the fork of the Odinsfluss River. Much like the city, Folte is a town that embodies traditions of both the East and West: the market bringing fresh produce from the West, the commuter hub going to middle class jobs in the East. The popular local team, the Striders, are one of the most internationally mixed. A huge Catholic church dominates the skyline and on clear days service bells can be heard during matches.
Stadium quality: 4
Friendliness to foreigners: 9

PR-1070 Platz
Located in Hartburg, the gateway city to the interior. Its home team, Oost-Hartburg, fared much less well than Estdal in the recent GPL, though, so the locals are thirsting for some good football action. It's the smallest stadium to be hosting games, but has good amenities thanks to its connections with prosperous local businesses.
Stadium quality: 5
Friendliness to foreigners: 7

Sanktjakobvöllur
Another Háttmark arena, but this time based in the south. Háttmark is the capital city of Græntfjall, a bustling port city. The south is more residential than the mainly industrial north. Architecturally, it bore the brunt of the violence that engulfed the tail end of the communist regime: sadly, a lot of the buildings you'll see are very new, but that also testifies to the major economic boom the city is undergoing. This hasn't extended to Korsbach's frankly decrepit arena.
Stadium quality: 3
Friendliness to foreigners: 4

Spajoküm Arena
Home of Molding, "the Gold Shrews", and Korsbach's south Háttmark rivals. The Molding-Korsbach rivalry isn't as intense as Gunzlach-Steinaux, because they're not as good, but the rivalry over who has the best stadium is equally fierce - and in this case, a race to the bottom. Molding are one of the oldest clubs in the country, and the toilet facilities certainly do honour to that. However, the club has had much more foreign influx in recent years, so is a bit more welcoming to outside influences telling them their paint job sucks.
Stadium quality: 2
Friendliness to foreigners: 7

TQG Langvöllur Arena [non-commercial name: Langvöllur Arena]
The Langvöllur Arena (the second Arena is redundant as völlur means Arena in Græntfjaller, but the name persists for some reason) is in the exclave of Hofvinger, which lies the other side of the Komodo Channel to mainland Græntfjall. As such, the "Northern Wolves" of Hofvinger have always considered themselves a bit different (i.e. superior) to the soft southerners. It is absolutely freezing even in summer owing to the wind patterns. Teams will travel via ferry from Háttmark, assuming the sea isn't ice-locked.
Stadium quality: 7
Friendliness to foreigners: 0 (because negative numbers aren't allowed)

VG Arena [non-commercial name: Maigburg Arena]
One of the bigger arenas, in fact the third largest after the GNA/GIA. The Maigburg club is based in the suburbs of Waltenberg, the biggest university city, and reflects its academic traditions, middle-class professions, and fierce anti-communism. The "Catbear" ultras are ferociously loyal. The stadium is big but old and run-down. A multi-purpose arenas, it hosts many sports including athletics, notably the final lap of the Waltenberg Marathon.
Stadium quality: 3
Friendliness to foreigners: 2

THE PEOPLE'S FEDERATION OF YUEZHOU - NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
月州人民联邦 - 国际足球队

Manager: Yuan Zilai
Assistant Manager: Liang Wei
Nickname: The Red Dragons
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Style Modifier: -2
First-Choice Lineup
Tactics:
Yuan Zilai, like many previous Yue coaches, has opted to play a more defensive style. However, Yue players are not strong enough aerially or good enough at defending long balls to just park the bus. In order to compensate, Yuan has opted to emphasize an aggressive midfield press. Yuezhou will aim to heavily cover the center of the field, with Gu (a central midfielder by trade) more than willing to tuck in and all of the attackers willing to drop back. They’ll then use the cover of their relatively-conservative back four (which can become a back five when Guo Xiawei drops back, which is fairly often) to aggressively try to win the ball back. They’ve become especially good at swarming creative attackers, taking players like Brady Reynolds completely out of games in past matches.

With the ball, the Red Dragons play a fast-paced, counter-attacking style, aiming to rapidly advance the ball up the field and fluidly exploit spaces with constant running and one-touch passes. Liu Huiying, normally a support striker, and Gu Zhalei, normally a central midfielder, are slightly out of place deployed on the flanks, and Yuan Zilai may struggle to find sources of width. However, Liu, Wen, Gu, and Huang are all versatile attackers quick enough to pose danger on the counterattack, which is where Yuezhou will get most of their goals. Yuezhou tends to do much better when they score first, but struggle to break down opposing defenses when trailing.

STARTERS

#01 - GK - RUO Xiaolan (罗小兰) (f) - 35 - Cypher Town (NPH)
A very athletic goalkeeper - as well as, after helping Cypher Town secure promotion to Nephara's top flight, the first female player on the national team. She’s a high-flying shot-stopper who, despite some rawness, came into her own as a keeper in the Nepharim Premiership - the first professional league she played in. At thirty-five years old, she’s lost some of her athleticism, but compensates for this with her experience and better feel for goalkeeping, especially on set pieces, where she has upgraded from “terrible” to “below-average”.
#02 - LB - KANG Enlai (康恩来) - 25 - Dynamo Dalian
The most ambitious of the full-backs on the roster, Kang is the best source of width on the team (although that probably says more about the team than it does about Kang). Strong athleticism and crossing ability, although he is a bit one-dimensional on the attack.
#03 - CB - REN Fang (任方) - 28 - Hamiltonian Cambria (KSK)
A strong, disciplined defender who's at his best in the air. Athletic and very versatile, Ren’s only weakness is that he tends to just hoof it whenever he wins a ball back.
#05 - CB - HAN Jian (韩建) - 30 - Yincheng Capitals
Cautious and disciplined, the experienced Han Jian is the de facto leader of the back line for both club and country. Incredibly solid, but like Ren, has little skill on the ball.
#15 - RB/CB - ZHU Aiguo (朱爱国) - 24 - Iturributa United (ASG)
An aggressive, versatile defender who likes to win balls and push forward with them. A center-back by trade, Zhu unexpectedly became Yuezhou's starting right-back in matches where Yuan Zilai needed a more attacking presence on the flanks - his emergence at the position has earned him a transfer to Astograth as well as a starting spot.
#06 - CB/CDM - GUO Xiawei (郭夏伟) - 25 - Tanques AOE (KOR)
Formerly a makeshift libero in a back three, Guo Xiawei has been redeployed as a defensive midfielder. One of the first of his generation of Yue players to sign abroad, for since-relegated Ko-orenite side Tanques AOE, Guo has flashes of brilliance with the ball and is very good at reading and intercepting passes, but tends to make unforced errors on defense too often to be trusted unless in a back three.
#07 - CDM - YANG Tao (杨道) - 25 - Yincheng Capitals
Energetic but not particularly skilled, Yang will be tasked with pressing aggressively, winning balls back before passing them to someone more creative, and kicking opponents to stop attacks.
#10 - LAM/ST - LIU Huiying (f) (刘辉映) - 23 - Tractor Club Sawayama (SQR)
Liu’s speed and devastating passing ability make her one to watch with every counterattack. Her high workrate, even on the defensive end, should theoretically make her a good candidate to slot into attacking-midfield - but a striker by trade, there’s no telling how the Tractor Club star will actually do.
#18 - CAM - WEN Xiaohui (f) (文小辉) - 21 - CASK Thorsborg (SVJ)
Wen Xiaohui, the niece of controversial star midfielder Wen Xiaoli, could be Yuezhou’s next big thing. She’s fairly raw and not a great tactical fit, but her pace and playmaking more than merit her inclusion in the first-choice starting eleven, to the point where Yuan Zilai redid his tactical setup to include her.
#08 - RAM/CM - GU Zhalei (顾炸雷) (C) - 31 - Archbishop FC (NOV)
Gu Zhalei is an energetic presser, an accurate (if not very creative) passer, and the heart of the Red Dragons’ tactical setup. He’s not particularly used to his new role on the right, but his time abroad in Nova Anglicana has allowed him to shine more as a creative threat, as well as a long-range threat on a good day.
#09 - ST - HUANG Shedong (黄舍东) - 25 - Stahlberg Rovers (NPH)
While not particularly good at hold-up play or in the air, Huang's blazing speed and technique mean he excels at exploiting gaps in the opponents' defense with his dribbling and short passes. A strong finisher, but relatively unproven leading a line by himself.

RESERVES

#12 - GK - WANG Bo - 26 - Yincheng Capitals
A polished shot-stopper with strong leadership abilities who was rewarded for his efforts with a Golden Gloves award two years ago. Earned a big-money (by Yue standards, at least) move to Yincheng this transfer window.
#23 - GK - LU Qiang (f) - 29 - SC Jiangdong
A more modern goalkeeper who excels at playing the ball out from the back. Undoubtedly worse at actually stopping the ball from going into the net.
#13 - LB/RB - QIU Geming - 32 - Beian Rovers
A more cautious fullback who often drifts inwards while Guo and Kang push up. Played an important role as a right-sided center back for Beian Rovers, which might be his preferred position as he slows with age, but more than usable as a defensive substitution for either fullback position.
#14 - LB - JIAWEI Chuan (f) - 23 - Harbor (NWK)
A quick, crafty full-back (or wing-back, or even winger if Yuezhou are really parking the bus) whose biggest weakness is a propensity to get forced off the ball.
#16 - CB - ZHUANG Chonglin - 33 - Beian Athletic
A steady hand at the back, albeit one slowed by age and injuries. Zhuang will most commonly come on when Yuezhou are trying to park the bus.
#11 - CM - CHEN Xiwei - 28 - Yincheng Capitals
Energetic but not particularly skilled, Chen is a slightly more attack-minded option in the pivot who nevertheless mostly just kicks people and wins the ball back.
#17 - CM - LI Keqiang - 24 - Emerald Coast Raiders FC (TKT)
An absolute wall of muscle, Li Keqiang's combination of pace and physicality make him a tough player to get past. Has proven surprisingly effective as a goal-scorer in Tikariot.
#19 - CM/AM - LI Jing - 25 - Steinaux (GRF)
The young Li Jing is very quick and best on the counterattack, but may lack the discipline to adhere to Yuan’s pressing style.
#24 - AM - GAO Renling - 33 - Capital FC (XAN)
Gao’s biggest strength is his motor, followed closely by his field vision, and he’ll be used as an attacking substitute for Yang (with Gu shifting back to central-midfield) or as a like-for-like substitution for Liu.
#20 - AM - TAO Beiliang - 21 - Korsbach (GRF)
A relentless source of energy, aggression, and creativity, Tao is still pretty inconsistent, but is a great student of the game and could be starting for the Red Dragons in a few years.
#21 - ST - YU Wei - 32 - FC Rüsselheim (SNL)
The experienced Yu Wei is a strong aerial presence and decent finisher. If Huang Shedong proves wanting without a support striker, Yu will be the first to come in.
#22 - ST/RW - WANG Jiahui - 22 - Yincheng Capitals
A more mobile forward who can deputize capably on the right wing, Wang has made more headlines for his steadfast support of Ren Qiang’s government than for his (admittedly very good) play.

Emerging on the international scene late, Tikariot made a bit of a splash by winning the IFC 1 before entering the Baptism of Fire. Here the Snowy Owls reached the quarter finals, only eliminated by later winner Græntfjall, followed by a trip to the round of 16 at the XIV Olympic Summer Games. Tikariot also were in contention for one of the play-off spots in the qualification tournament for World Cup 86, but fell short by one point. Still they were considered one of the biggest surprises of the qualifiers and managed to also reach the Round of 32 of the Cup of Harmony. This is the first edition of the Copa Rushmori they enter and hope to make at least a dent in some of the favourites' title aspirations.

Image
The Tikariotian fans also deserve particular mentioning. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a long drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied with a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Image
Stuart Ekstrom - 46 Image
A wily tactitian that prefers an offensive game, but with the ability to fluidly switch systems by pulling back the wingers to give a sudden defensive man advantage. He is a proponent of the offense-heavy 4-3-3, with only few adjustments compared to previous tournaments. The average age of the squad is fairly low, which means that they still have a bright future ahead of them, but also that their relative lack of experience could cause some issues around the more veteran teams, especially as he nominated a group of promising yet almost uncapped players for this tournament.

Image
[b]G Vincent Litman - 20 - Ysgrann Bay Eagles FC
Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 0 assists
Fantastic reactions on the line, but with weaknesses with high balls. Could be more assertive towards his defenders, but is widely viewed as one of the best young goal keepers in Tikariot.
LB Ximon Bergstrand - 20 - Guillarim Blades FC Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 2 assists
Despite playing for the (at the time of writing this) worst team of the league, Bergstrand has shown tremendous potential and has plenty of speed and a great eye for more offensive players which he can put into scene with precise passes. Defensive play still has room for improvement.
CB Randy Kovalchuk - 24 - Port Rhovanyon AFC Image - 27 caps, 0 goals, 2 assists
The most veteran player on the team by far, Kovalchuk is trying to get back into the first team squad, as spot he lost due to some bad performances, some of which cost the team a lot of points. A strong aerial presence and uncompromising tackler that can make up for some lack of speed by reading the game very well.
CB Ron Sullivan - 25 - Eivora Athletic FC Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 1 assist
Not much in terms of offensive production, Sullivan is a great shutdown defender that is extremely hard to get past. Not a lot of filigree technique, but he's the kind of defender forwards will think twice about getting into a challenge with.
RB Damian Hernandez - 28 - Liverpool Town Image - 4 caps, 0 goals, 1 assist
A returnee to the national team after his transfer to Murphtannia. Not the fastest player, but has incredible stamina and can work the right side from end to end for 90 minutes. Tends to be on the cautious side when going forward, though, a bit of the opposite of Bergstrand on the other side.
LM Xebastian Lorenskog - 23 - Guillarim Blades FC Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 1 assist
Another member of the Blades team, Lorenskog also is a rare ray of light in the glum league play so far. Possesses tremendous speed and great technique making him a big threat for any opposing defenders, especially on counter attacks. Still has work to do in finishing, but has the ability to pull defenders towards him, leaving team mates uncovered.
CM Travis Dolan - 32 - Port Tacassam FC Image - 1 cap, 2 goals, 0 assists
A true workhorse that is one of the biggest surprises in Ekstrom's squad, especially as he is battling for a first team spot with Port Tacassam's new international signings Davidov Rominevskiy and Maximilian Edvardsen. He is the destroyer in Tikariot's game, not unlike Rory McNair, winning back balls and then passing them on to Lorenskog or Baines (or whoever else is playing by his side).
RM Callum Baines - 19 - Anhedron Wanderers FC Image - 3 caps, 1 goal, 1 assist
Great playmaker with great tactical acumen and able to read the defense very well to play the devastating pass to one of the forwards. Also has a wicked shot from the distance and can both curve the ball and go full force.
LW Benedict Edwards - 22 - Sword Image - 1 cap, 2 goals, 1 assist
Not very well known in Tikariot prior to his move to Eura, Edwards really took his chance in the friendly against the Busoga Islands with two goals and one assist. Very physical presence in the opponent's box, can draw other defenders, but is lacking killer instinct for scoring, even though he seems to have been working on this since his transfer. Can be good to open spaces for other players.
CF Nathaniel Kingford-Smith - 19 - Ysgrann Bay Eagles FC Image - 1 cap, 1 goal, 1 assist
Another "Young Gun" in Tikariot's very fertile offensive soil, Kingford-Smith is an agile forward that also can use his body to force his way through. Has a great first touch that can get him past defenders, but he still has to find the patience to become a complete striker as he still tends to shoot too soon, wasting a lot of chances.
RW Xasthur Fredriksson - 25 - Oriannor Mountaineers FC Image - 1 cap, 1 goal, 1 assist
One of the shooting stars of the TPL season so far, Fredriksson is a speedy winger with an immense scoring sense. Deadly on counter attacks he can dart through the tiniest holes in a defense and with his strong shot get the round thing into the square thing with great frequency.

Image
G Stu Harding - 18 - Oriannor Mountaineers FC Image - 6 caps, 0 goals, 0 assists
LB Merrick Coker - 26 - Hanai Breakers Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 0 assists
CB Henry Short - 24 - Qet Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 0 assists
CB Lee Rooney - 25 - AR Roikh Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 0 assists
RB Stephen Mhor - 27 - Anhedron Wanderers FC Image - 5 caps, 0 goals, 0 assists
LM Ryan McCormack - 24 - VZRH Matov-Uri Image - 1 cap, 0 goals, 1 assist
CM Cassar Levandrio - 22 - Xanark City FC Image - 1 cap, 1 goal, 0 assists

PLAYER INFORMATION
GK: Pedja Kasun, 27, Ararat Severyan [MYT]
39 caps, 0 goals
He's been the best goalkeeper in Mytanija for years now and it is getting to the stage where people will begin to worry about having to replace him one day as there isn't anyone currently who comes close to him. The Ararat goalkeeper has won the Golden Glove three years in a row domestically and last season he only conceded 19 goals in 30 games. He's a great shot-stopper and communicator; possessing good reflexes and speed in order to rush out towards oncoming forwards too. He stands at 195cm so is an imposing presence between the posts whilst also being useful with his distribution of the ball, something which is especially important in Repin's team.

GK: Lazar Obradovic, 24, Liria Prizren [MYT]
1 cap, 0 goals
Obradovic has been selected as substitute goalkeeper ahead of Zafer Muminovic and that is due to his superior form in the Top League last season. Obradovic finished second in the running for the Golden Glove and conceded only 26 goals in 30 games. He's a thoroughly modern goalkeeper, with excellent distribution - some argue the best of any Mytanar goalkeeper - but sometimes his communication can be a little lacking and he can be prone to the odd eccentric moment. Generally a good shot-stopper and never afraid of making an acrobatic save when a simple one would do.

GK: Zafer Muminovic, 24, Tekstil Ibon [MYT]
4 caps, 0 goals
A slightly controversial choice due to Tekstil's defensive record not being anywhere near as good as some other team's last season, with some commentators believing that the 17 year old Olympic goalkeeper Semir Besak should have been selected ahead of Muminovic because of his better record and so that he could gain experience of being with the national team. Repin gave this idea short shrift, however, explaining that he needs players who have been at this level before and that Besak's time would come. Muminovic had made the second-choice spot his own at the last Copa Rushmori the Mytanar team qualified for, but he's slid down a spot now. He doesn't have the advantage of one of the top defences in the Top League in front of him domestically and that may mean he's been a little unfairly penalised by being dropped down to third choice, but he's a solid back-up option to have with the squad.

DL: Srdan Vukovic, 27, 1896 Ebor [MYT]
42 caps, 1 goal
Probably the most comprehensively skilled full back in the squad, Vukovic was a left-sided midfielder early on in his career and that means he's equally adept when marauding forward as he is when fulfilling his defensive responsibilities. He's an extremely important player in the formations where the full backs are required to provide width when the team is in possession (so the 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-1-2), and opponents may often find that attacks flow down his side of the pitch because of his skill going forwards. A fine crosser of the ball and good link-up play mean he is an integral cog in the teams attacking play, with his on-field relationships with the likes of Fejzuli, Hrdaljko, Gavrilovic and Odonelec likely being crucial to the team's fortunes in this Copa Rushmori.

DC: Mojmir Anac, 27, Olympic Thessia [MYT]
51 caps, 2 goals
Olympic's inspirational captain who led them to their first ever Mytanar Top League title in the 27/28 season, being named the Player of the Season in the process. Anac is definitely the best Mytanar centre-back around at the moment and is pretty much undroppable when fit. He's a really solid all-rounder, great in all aspects of his defensive work - heading, tackling, marking, you name it - but also good at bringing the ball out from the back and finding passes to break through the lines of the opposition's formation. He must be a dream to manage for Repin and will be an important player for Mytanija for the foreseeable future.

DC: Kamil Jernejec, 26, Olympic Thessia [MYT]
15 caps, 0 goals
Repin has decided to go with Jernejec to play alongside his domestic colleague, a choice borne out of their familiarity playing alongside each other and mutually assured performances throughout the last domestic season. He joined Olympic from Arka a couple of seasons ago and hasn't ever looked back. Jernejec isn't as quick as Anac is but he's really good in the air and boasts solid mental attributes as well as being good at distributing the ball. He can drop a long pass over the top for a forward to run onto or play a ball through a press to bring his team up the pitch and this could be useful in games against more defensive opposition (that are prepared to sit deep and only press the player on the ball) or those that operate a high press to try and win the ball in the Mytanar half.

DR: Petr Isaev, 29, Crvena Zvezda [MYT]
64 caps, 1 goal
The captain of the national team, Isaev has been a real stalwart over the years for both club and country. He enjoyed a short spell at Brenecian side Northern Stallions but returned to his boyhood club and has continued to be Mr. Reliable for them since. When he was younger few would have predicted he'd be able to motivate his team mates the way he can now. Isaev is an old-fashioned full-back, good at defending and perhaps not the most adventurous when going forwards. He's not that quick, but he makes up for that with good anticipation, he reads the game very well. He's been pretty much ever-present since Mytanija returned to the international scene and that serves to demonstrate his reliability and consistency. He's quiet off the pitch and a metronomic presence on it and capable enough of putting the occasional decent cross in from deep.

DC: Niksa Obadko, 29, Liria Prizren [MYT]
37 caps, 1 goal
A hugely experienced centre-half, Obadko was once touted as a potential national team captain, but his on-field disciplinary issues with the national side have seemingly curtailed any hopes of him achieving that particular goal. He's been sent off once the national team, but it arguably could have happened on more than just that occasion and although his disciplinary record for Liria isn't poor, he has never really seemed to inspire confidence in Lev Repin ever since that dismissal. He's the same height as Pedja Kasun at 195cm, but wiry when compared to the goalkeeper, although that wiriness shouldn't be mistaken for weakness as Obadko is a strong guy. He's a tough tackler and a limpet-like marker, but a little lacking for pace.

DC: Zelimir Apostolov, 30, Ararat Severyan [MYT]
21 caps, 0 goals
Apostolov has had a rather slow and steady career and perhaps doesn't get the credit that he deserves, perhaps in part because he has been something of a late bloomer. He's a part of the incredible defence that Ararat have put together and he's arguably the key man in the back-line (it helps having Kasun behind them, naturally). He's an extremely robust defender and thoroughly prepared to put his body on the line to ensure opponents don't get a clean shot on goal. He was a starter the last time Mytanija were at the Copa Rushmori, but the emergence of Anac and Jernejec as such a strong partnership domestically means he is demoted to the bench this time around.

DR: Branko Nikolov, 28, Liria Prizren [MYT]
9 caps, 0 goals
Nikolov possibly thought his national team career was over given that the much younger Patrik Odonelec - the cousin of Mytanija vice-captain Jasno Odonelec - was selected ahead of him the last time Mytanija were at the Copa Rushmori. However, Repin has recalled Nikolov following an excellent season domestically for the Liria man. He's a more defensive option than Patrik Odonelec, but Repin believes that that may be necessary in a tournament where Mytanija may not dominate possession quite as much as they have in previous years. Nikolov will be an adequate replacement for Petr Isaev if called upon.

MC: Alen Hrdaljko, 23, CDSA [MYT]
19 caps, 1 goal
A central midfielder who has grown in stature over the past few years - we should note figuratively rather than literally, he's still only a dimunitive 170cm - he's toned down his outspoken side whilst retaining the tough-tackling, all-action side to his game. He was talked up as the future of the national team's midfield and now he is very much the present, there's a reason why he captained his boyhood club, the national under-21 squad and the senior national side by the age of 22 and the trust Repin has in him is immense. A terrier of a player on the pitch he is crucial in the team winning the ball back from the opponent quickly and has mastered the art of tactical fouls if it isn't possible to do so fairly. Also an excellent passer of the ball, off both his left and right foot and a useful set-piece taker. He's also CDSA's designated penalty taker, something which is especially useful to have in knockout football.

MC: Tahir Fejzuli, 28, Atletik Thessia [MYT]
57 caps, 5 goals
A slightly under-par domestic season but Fejzuli remains the best creative central midfielder Mytanija has. He is excellent in possession, both when passing and dribbling. He can beat a defender with a fine piece of footwork and then play a killer pass to split a defence straight after. He's also a great threat from set pieces, both when shooting and crossing. His top-class vision makes him really difficult to defend against as he may not even be looking where he is going to put the ball and he often seems a step ahead of everyone else on the pitch. He's not great out of possession and intelligent opponents may target him as a weak link defensively. Returned to Mytanija from a spell with Nepharim side Sabrefell Moths.

AML/R: Brajko Gavrilovic, 25, 1896 Ebor [MYT]
19 caps, 2 goals
A tall, pacy winger who opponents will find difficult to deal with due to his unusual combination of attributes. Gavrilovic is a good crosser of the ball and quick, whilst also being a threat aerially, look for diagonal balls to him against smaller full-backs to be utilised when the 1896 Ebor man is on the pitch. He wasn't noted for his finishing when he was younger but he has been improving and managed 10 goals in 30 games in the Top League last season, his aerial ability particularly helping him out in that regard. He has a great relationship with Srdan Vukovic on the field, both being 1896 Ebor players and knowing each other's game inside-out. He's a tactically intelligent player and Repin values that enormously, along with his versatility in being able to play on either wing.

AMC: Jasno Odonelec, 25, Atletik Thessia [MYT]
49 caps, 15 goals
The national team vice-captain and designated penalty taker, Jasno Odonelec has taken some huge strides forward in recent seasons. His itinerant career has seen him compete in three countries by the age of 25 and he's a revered competitor in all three, having turned out for his local team in Clichy-sous-Bois, Prahecq (he was born there to Mytanar immigrants); before moving to 1912 Stelburg in Siovanija and Teusland; before finally moving to boyhood club Atletik Thessia following a one-year move back to Prahecq - finishing third in the Top League Player of the Season award last season. Odonelec boasts a fierce shot, quick feet, solid aerial ability and he also isn't afraid of a physical confrontation. He earned the nickname «le fantôme» in Prahecq for his ability to find space and not be noticed by opposition defenders. He's an icon in the multicultural banlieue Clichy-sous-Bois after growing up there and playing for the club, taking them to UICA competitions and Coupe Prahecqoise victory in his time at the club.

AMR/L: Boris Kalinic, 29, Workers Union [EUR]
22 caps, 4 goals
Long ignored by the national set-up, Kalinic is now a regular and the only foreign-based player selected for the Copa Rushmori. He's an extremely direct player, always looking to dribble at defenders when he's in possession and a useful goal scorer as proven by his output in the Euraleague down the years. His finishing with the national team has perhaps not been to the same standard but he has the ability to improve his scoring record for his country. He's not known for his desire to track back and get involved in the defensive side of the game but he's mostly being used to come inside and create issues for defenders with the national team so Repin will hope that that tendency isn't exploited too much.

DMC: Branko Brkljacic, 28, Atletik Thessia [MYT]
38 caps, 0 goals
The defensive option who will be called upon if the team requires a switch to either a 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 formation. Brkljacic is a solid ball-playing defensive midfielder. He has solid technical ability, with a good eye for a pass and it's something he utilises regularly, spraying balls all over the pitch to stretch defences from his deep-lying midfield position. He also does the dirty side of the game effectively, able to win possession back through a combination of strength and dogged determination. He's a tough tackler and not averse to leaving one in on an opponent or tactically fouling if he feels it necessary.

MC: Vilim Kupresak, 25, Olympic Thessia [MYT]
22 caps, 3 goals
Kupresak was seen as one of Mytanija's great young hopes, a veteran of the Di Bradini Cup side that won the tournament and was touted as a potential 'golden generation' for the country. He's begun to repay that faith with exceptional performances last season as a part of Olympic Thessia's title-winning squad. He's a big talent and offers everything you would want in a modern offensively-minded central midfielder. He's a lot like Fejzuli, but with a little bit more pace and more conviction when finishing. He's also someone who motivates those around him, never afraid to shout at his team mates and give them instructions. Doesn't have the same tendency as Fejzuli to kind of fade-out of games if the going gets tough, which may lead to him being selected ahead of the Atletik man on occasion.

AML/C: Dalibor Vlahovic, 25, Ararat Severyan [MYT]
8 caps, 1 goal
Although he's nominally expected to play in either a left-wing or attacking midfield role, Vlahovic's greatest skill is his versatility and Repin may see fit to use him in central midfield or as an auxiliary left-back if necessary (hence only selecting one definite left-back in the squad in the form of Srdan Vukovic). Vlahovic has played in all those positions and more and he's proven to be equally adept in pretty much all of them, whatever task he is assigned he generally completes adequately and that makes him a useful player for a national team to have given the limited number of players allowed in the Copa Rushmori squad. Given this versatility it is clear he is an all-rounder, there isn't really any particular aspect of his game that is lacking, though it is often difficult to pick one as standing out - he isn't as quick as the likes of Kalinic or Gavrilovic but he's technically solid, able to dribble past an opponent and an excellent passer and crosser of the ball. Look for him to hit the occasional venomous long shot on goal too.

AMC: Maks Shishkin, 20, Energija-Nuklearna [MYT]
3 caps, 1 goal
A big moment for the youngster as he's selected ahead of some much more established players, he had a really solid season domestically with a mid-table Energija-Nuklearna squad, managing 10 goals as they finished 7th. Shishkin had a slow start to the season as he returned to Mytanija from Energija Chernovets in Siovanija and Teusland but he improved drastically as the season went on and became a real pest for opposition defences, his excellent dribbling ability making it very hard to dispossess him. He's bulked up a little, but stands at a mere 167cm so can be at a disadvantage physically against some opponents but he has a insatiable desire to get on the ball and is extremely unwilling to give it up easily. He seems to have grown out of a tendency which saw him sometimes keep hold of the ball for too long or try to 'over-play' certain situations and he's becoming a better player for it.

ST: Jezdimir Ocokoljic, 25, Atletik Thessia [MYT]
60 caps, 33 goals
His unbelievable early career at hometown club Crvena Zvezda brought two league and cup doubles to the Tsrvena based team, he then went to Nephara and became a club icon at Newrook City before returning to his hometown club and scoring 23 goals in 30 games for them last season, winning the Golden Boot and cementing his legend. He's now moved to Atletik Thessia for a big fee as the biggest club in Mytanar football look to wrest back what they see as their league title from local rivals Olympic. Many Mytanar supporters see it as Ocokoljic taking the easy option, going to the biggest and most powerful team domestically, but his fellow Crvena Zvezda supporters wished him well as he left and that is all that mattered to him. His strike rate for the national team is at a clip not seen since Kristian Haugen played for the Hoops, a fact which identifies Ocokoljic as the country's top marksman and means he's a danger for all opposition defences. A good dribbler, he'll embarrass any opponents that look to give him particularly rough treatment with his quick feet and trickery. His finishing is pinpoint precise too and he's decent from free kicks for this reason as well. He's extremely adept at finding space, his off-the-ball movement makes him a nightmare to defend against. Ocokoljic will take on even more tactical importance with Repin in charge too, with his role as a false nine in the 4-6-0 being crucial to the way the team plays. Expect his excellent relationship with Jasno Odonelec to bear fruit for both club and country in the coming years.

ST: Zlatan Andrijasevic, 23, Atletik Thessia [MYT]
9 caps, 5 goals
An impressive goalscoring record with the national team for Zlatan Andrijasevic, he may not get all that many chances to score but when he does he invariably puts the ball in the net. A valuable skill as a striker. He's a towering (196cm) centre forward who can more or less do everything. He's good in the air, has excellent composure and finishing and his movement can make him a menace for defenders. He's not too shabby with the ball at his feet, with some centre-halves being surprised how quickly he can move the ball when dribbling. He's also not frightened of moments of ingenuity either, something which is invaluable in knockout football and he's scored several improvised and acrobatic goals for club and country. Coming off the back of a good season domestically, scoring 16 goals in 30 games and sharing third in the Golden Boot award. Ideal for the 4-3-3 formation due to his hold-up play.

ST: Nebojsa Aleksic, 29, Tekstil Ibon [MYT]
32 caps, 7 goals
Aleksic offers height along with his pace and is a very good finisher at domestic level, his goal scoring record with the national team isn't quite as good. He won't bring as much to the build-up play as some of the others, but if he is given a chance in front of goal he will likely take it. Aleksic is a player that has played lower-league football for his hometown club Tekstil in the past and this means he is fully prepared to get involved in the dirty side of the game and he can often be seen clipping at the heels of opponents and generally being a pain to play against. He has an excellent disciplinary record despite this, something of an oxymoron. Finished second in the Top League Golden Boot race with 20 goals in 30 games last season. A useful option if Repin wants a additional forward on the pitch or to shift to a lone striker set-up in the 4-3-3 formation, although he's less good than Zlatan Andrijasevic at holding the ball up meaning he may be second choice for that particular role.

ST: Josip Brajdic, 24, 1896 Ebor [MYT]
Uncapped
The only uncapped player called-up for the Copa Rushmori, Brajdic deserves it more than anyone else following an incredible season for a Litala ’93 team who were eventually relegated from the Top League. Despite that fact he managed 16 goals in 30 games, sharing third place in the Golden Boot award and impressing everybody. He was thought of as a bit of a goal poacher in the same vein as Anton-Dusan Straka (who he has been selected ahead of), but he added more to his game last season and made himself a real handful to defend against. Adept at bringing others into play it is possibly his link-up play which convinced Repin that he had the ability to be a part of the national team. He'll be useful in two striker systems (ie. the 4-3-1-2 and 5-3-2 formations) and very few domestic commentators would be shocked if he were to cause foreign opponents problems given his track record domestically. He earned a big move to 1896 Ebor off the back of his performances last season and it will be interesting to see if he can make the step up to international level.

Mytanija will be using a fairly standard 4-2-3-1 formation for the Copa Rushmori but Lev Repin is tactically flexible and the team could shift to a 4-6-0, a 4-3-1-2, 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 dependent on the opposition and the game situation. I shall try to detail here the sort of scenarios which will lead to each change. The team's default 4-2-3-1 relies upon width provided by the team's full backs when in possession - although only the full back on the side the team is attacking will go forward. Wide midfielders (Gavrilovic and Kalinic to start with), will relentlessly move inside in order to give the opposition's full backs a decision to make with regard to staying with the winger or moving to cover the full back (the tactic works with the intention of creating overloads in these wide areas if the opposition defend zonally). The team's attacking midfielder and striker will often interchange between dropping deep to provide a passing option and running in behind to try and stretch the defence - the underlying theory to this again is to try and move opponents around and create spaces for team mates to exploit. The two central midfielders will stay in deeper positions about a third of the way inside the opposition's half in order to recycle possession and prolong attacks, but also acting as a defensive shield for the centre halves and the non-attacking full back. This means that in possession Mytanija should resemble something close to a 3-2-4-1 formation, with the 3 denoting two centre halves and a full-back; the 2 denoting two central midfielders; the 4 denoting the left-sided midfielder, attacking midfielder, right-sided midfielder and the other full-back providing width on either side; and the 1 being the striker.

Mytanija may switch to a 4-6-0 and play without a recognised striker, to do this they would employ one or two 'false nines' (ie. a player who may take-up positions which a conventional striker usually would but regularly drops deeper into midfield to join-in the build-up play), again this would be aimed at moving the opposition centre halves up the pitch to create space for the team's wingers to attack in behind. If using one false nine it will usually be Ocokoljic employed in this role and if two it'd be Ocokoljic and Odonelec (with Shishkin or Vlahovic swapping in for either). When using the 4-6-0 the team's full backs would be much more conservative than in the 4-2-3-1. The 4-6-0 is something the team may switch to mid-match with the usual starting eleven if the opponent is easily dealing with the 4-2-3-1, but also if Mytanija find themselves ahead in the game as it allows the team's four defenders to focus purely on the defensive aspect of their game as Mytanija's variation of the formation doesn't demand much of the full backs offensively.

If Mytanija find themselves behind in a game they may switch to a 4-3-1-2, taking the wingers off for an additional striker and a more offensively minded central midfielder. This would usually mean Gavrilovic and Kalinic coming off for one of Andrijasevic, Aleksic or Brajdic; and one of Kupresak or Vlahovic. When switching to the 4-3-1-2 Hrdaljko will become the most defensive of the 3 central midfielders and allow the other two more freedom when in possession. Again, in this formation the width will be provided by the team's full backs and given the lack of defensive protection when the team has possession (ie. just the two centre halves and Hrdaljko/Brkljacic), this could leave the team open to counter attacks. Generally the 4-3-1-2 will only be used when a couple of goals down or when really chasing the game late on. There are some scenarios where it may be used in a defensive manner but these would be rare, this would involve using two defensively minded central midfielders and instructing the full backs to stay back. It is possibly more likely that a 4-3-3 or 5-3-2 would be used in these scenarios.

The 4-3-3 would be used when ahead in the game and trying to defend a lead, usually this would mean the withdrawal of the attacking midfielder for a defensive midfielder (Odonelec off for Brkljacic with the current starting line-up) and also the substitution of Ocokoljic for the more physical Zlatan Andrijasevic or Nebojsa Aleksic. Again, the full backs would maintain their defensive position even when in possession, whilst the defensive midfielder and one of the central midfielders - on most occasions this would be Hrdaljko - would also shield the defence. Generally only the wingers and striker would have any attacking responsibilities, with the striker being instructed to hold the ball up as far away from the Mytanar goal as possible and then dump passes off to either of the wingers in order to keep possession/generate chances.

Finally there's the 5-3-2 which would pretty much only be used were the team really hanging on in a game and this would involve the introduction of an additional centre-back for one of the wingers, a defensive midfielder for the other and either moving Odonelec into a centre forward position or substituting him off for another striker (usually it'd be the pacy Josip Brajdic). As this usually requires two or three substitutions it is the least likely of the tactical shifts and would be used extremely sparingly. If you have any questions or queries regarding Mytanija's tactics or in-game substitutions because you want to include information about them in an RP, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will endeavour to respond to clear them up.

TEAM ROLES
Captaincy: Petr Isaev is the team's captain and most-capped player. Following a string of influential performances Jasno Odonelec has been elevated to the position of vice-captain, a decision which has been welcomed by much of the squad given his popularity. If neither of them are on the pitch the captaincy would pass onto the likes of Pedja Kasun or Mojmir Anac.
Penalties: Odonelec is now the team's first-choice penalty taker, after than the responsibility would fall to Ocokoljic. In a penalty shoot-out the order would be something like: Odonelec, Ocokoljic, Fejzuli, Brkljacic, Anac; then the likes of Aleksic, Andrijasevic, Hrdaljko, Kupresak, Vlahovic would come after or replace those they are substituted for if they are on the pitch by that point (some of them usually should be after 120 minutes of football!).
Corners: Essentially anyone I've noted as a good passer or crosser of the ball: Fejzuli, Kalinic, Odonelec (who will begrudge taking them due to him being a reasonable aerial threat), Vukovic etc.
Short free kicks: Ocokoljic or Fejzuli, basically. Ocokoljic is more likely to take them from the left as he's right-footed and Fejzuli more likely from the right as he's left-footed. Odonelec would be next choice and Branko Brkljacic would offer a different method of taking it which mainly involves just hitting the ball as hard as he possibly can. If none of those are on the pitch, the likes of Kalinic or Kupresak are options. Failing that pick someone at random.
Long free kicks: Usually whoever's playing at left-back or right-back will take our long free kicks and try and punt it into the box and take advantage of having quite a tall team.

NOTES:
• Lev Repin (aged 49), is the Mytanar national team manager and has been in the role for one World Cup cycle and a Copa Rushmori. Repin is a Mytanar footballing legend (as is Hjik!), and played for the national side 177 times, scoring 14 goals from full back, winning Copa Rushmori XVII and Cup of Harmony 56 and 59 along the way. He managed the under-21 squad at the Di Bradini Cup and took them to a runners-up finish. Repin is known as a bit of a schemer tactically and this was evidenced during qualification for World Cup 82 and he also led the team to a 3rd placed finish at the 32nd Copa Rushmori in Qusmo.

• Mytanija has qualified to 11 World Cups, reaching the quarter finals in World Cup 68. Mytanija has won the Copa Rushmori once (XVII), to go with two victories in the Cup of Harmony (56 and 59); and a Di Bradini Cup win (DBC40). Some of these achievements were made under the names Mytannion/the Mytanar Region, Mytanija is ICly the exact same place.

• Mytanars are renowned for being passionate and therefore will not be afraid of confrontation if they feel they're on the end of a particularly rough tackle. At the same time Mytanars are not afraid of gamesmanship and may perform some questionable tackles of their own, along with tactical fouls to prevent the opponent from gaining momentum. Furthermore, diving, crowding referees and even intentional handballs (OOC: so Maradona's Hand of God and Suarez for Uruguay versus Ghana, that sort of stuff), to influence the game are not beyond Mytanar players. They will argue that winning is the most important thing and will do anything they can to achieve victory. Some might call it dirty, Mytanars don't, that won't stop them complaining when things go against them naturally.

• Mytanar fans are well-known for being hooligans, causing problems wherever they go and being prone to violence. They also make outstanding choreographies for their domestic sides and occasionally the national team (if they aren't fighting each other), so pyrotechnics, flags and lots of noise and alcohol are common place. Corteos (organised marches from a specific place to the stadium), are also common, these can lead to areas being shutdown as the sheer numbers of fans walking along roads block traffic and can lead to issues as police attempt to marshal supporters too. Given the ongoing political situation in Mytanija, whether ultra groups are able to put aside differences regarding politics, ethnicity etc for the national side is a pertinent question and the answer to it may change even from game to game.

“’Ave yer seen who they’ve drawn us against Milenka?!” A gruff male voice barked. “Those trident bothering shitehawks!”

“The Sargossans?”

“Aye! Who else would I be calling that?!” The voice barked again, along with the splash of water as the man producing the bark lowered himself into a rusty iron bath. Steam was rising from the water. “Ahhhhh, that’s better now.”

The man producing the bark must have been in his late seventies. His body was withered, decrepit; hands notched and twisted, marked by years of manual labour. He was a third generation immigrant, his bloodline at this point mixed between Mytanar, Cotdelapoms, Astograth and Seunem. He nor his parents ever talked about the last one though. Nobody ever really knew what happened to Seunem and most of the people from there never wanted to talk about it when they were still alive, though most of them were gone by now.

“Luv, have you seen my scrubbing brush?!” He barked from the bath tub.

“Grandpa, I don’t know what that looks like, never mind where it is…” The female voice – likely owned by the aforementioned Milenka, I never promised to be a reliable narrator here, I’m not sure, I don’t know the girl – trailed off “…And I’m not sure I even want to know.” She added under her breath. This response elicited grumbling and splashing as the man lifted his ancient bones back out of the bath.

“Bloody ‘ell, I’ll have to find it meself won’t I.” He muttered. “Kids these days. Don’t know they were even born. Back in my day I was fetching scrubbing brushes left, right and centre… You’re bloody 18 years of age luv, you need to be helping your old grandpa…” He carried on his tirade as he strode through his apartment, naked, searching for the scrubbing brush. As he did so – searching in the bookcase, under the table and behind the sofa – the girl, who we now know for sure to be his granddaughter, walked into the room with a mug of what I must presume to be a hot drink, given the plumes of steam which rose from it, mimicking the water from the bath in the other room.

Her grandpa, bony backside wiggling as he searched behind the sofa, slowly arose and turned triumphantly. In his outstretched hand he proudly held aloft a wooden stick with barely half a dozen coarse bristles attached to it. His granddaughter’s face dropped at the sight.

“Bloody found it, you didn’t look hard enough luv.” Her grandfather said, naked body dripping water on the ancient rug which covered the bare floorboards of the apartment.

“Grandpa,” She gulped. Before turning towards the exit. “I think I’m going to be si—” As she did so she dropped the hot drink, steaming liquid spraying across the room as the mug hit the floor. She retched, too, the sight of the old man’s naked body enough to send anybody’s stomach the wrong way. The liquid hit her grandpa’s feet and he hopped, the boiling hot liquid scalding his bare toes. This scene was interrupted by a brief knock at the door and the click of it opening. A man… or maybe a boy, he was a similar age to the girl, walked into the room and gazed vacantly at the scene unfolding around him.

Milenka, the girl who we believe to be 18 years of age and the granddaughter of the older fella, retching into a bin due to catching sight of her grandfather’s nakedness. The old fella himself hopping about and cursing violently – scrubbing brush in hand of course – the thump of Thessia’s signature otskok music providing a soundtrack to the course of events.

“Right.” The younger guy said. “Milenka, sis, I’ll wait outside for you.” He said, not wishing for a minute to get himself involved in whatever had happened.

“No, no,” Milenka spluttered. “Please wait a moment.” She retched again.

“Oh, be quiet wit’ ya,” Her grandpa protested, “I’m the one with burns on my toes and you’re the one vomiting, get a hold of yerself girl!”

“No, I’ll go wait outside, only came to talk about the draw grandpa but I can see you’re quite busy.” The young fella offered.

“Oh did you now?” Milenka looked around at him with eyes wide, “Well, we were just talking about that weren’t we grandpa?” She said, a menacing look in her eyes. I may be being presumptuous but I believe the look in her eyes indicated that if she had to witness her grandpa’s weary old bones in all their glory, she felt that the boy – her brother, maybe? – must do so as well. He was stuck now, anyway:

“Ah! Aye, of course!” Grandpa smiled, “I knew you’d want to come speak to ol’ grandpa about that Juraj!” He said, scratching his back with the scrubbing brush absently. Then, he pointed to the sofa with it, “’Ave a seat there, there’s a good lad, we need to work out if this sorry bunch are gonna get through the group.”

“Grandpa, I’d really rather not…” Juraj trailed off, looking towards his sister with a grim look on his face, imploring her to provide him with a way out.

“No!” She said, wiping multi-coloured liquid away from her mouth with a piece of kitchen towel. “You should spend some time with him! Who was it grandpa? The Sargossans?” She said, eyes still fixed on her brother, not willing to look at her grandpa.

“Who?!” Grandpa shouted back, turning the scrubbing brush to his ear as if the old stick would somehow improve his aural faculties. Milenka sighed, the old fella was draining to be around.

“The Sargossans, Grandpa!” She shouted so that he would hear her. Then came a banging on the wall of the apartment.

“’Ey! If I hear youse shouting in there one more time I’ll come ‘round and cave all yer ‘eads in!” Came a muffled yell through the wall.

“Ah yes, the Sargossans…” Grandpa absent-mindedly scratched his chin with the scrubbing brush, before turning his head towards the wall. “Is that bastard shoutin’ again…” He said, pondering. “Gonna have to do something about ‘im, you two, thinks he owns the place cos he can afford a new Astograthian Lantzia the flash bloody woofter.”

“Grandpa, could you put some clothes on?” Juraj said, recognising that the situation wasn’t resolving itself anytime soon.

“Oh,” Grandpa looked down at himself. “Feck’s sake. I forgot about the bath.” He turned and walked towards the bathroom with purpose, pausing just as he walked through the door to point at Juraj with the scrubbing brush. “You. Stay there. I wanna talk about that Copa Rushmori, I ‘ave ‘eard of that Charruterra, but who the feck is Southwest Eastnorth?!” He finished, walking into the bathroom and slowly manoeuvring himself into the old metal bath, muttering: “This new bloody generation, new countries springing up everywhere, whatever was wrong with feckin’ Civil Citizenry and Swartaz and Polar Islandstates…”

“Is he always like this?” Juraj asked Milenka, raising an eyebrow. Milenka sighed.

“He’s getting worse, if anything.”

FORMATION / FORMACION

STYLE OF PLAY / ESTILO DE JUEGO
Style Modifier: +2
Description: Alfonzo Medrano likes to play attacking football with three players up front, with tall strikers Amunategui or Losada in the middle and abundance of wingers capable of playing multiple positions at their disposal. The three players upfront is mandatory in his lineups, and he prefers the 4-3-3 over the 3-4-3 formation due to lack of central defenders in his squad. He may also play 2-5-3 depending on the situation. They also employ a physical brand of football where players commit to tackles and prefer to roughen up the opposition.

The team prefer the usage of wingers to deliver the ball to the box via low to high crosses, and does not prefer to keep the ball at the middle of the park. Corners are usually delivered via crosses with the ball kicked from the corner spot.

Medrano is a calm man and is less likely to react violently to partial calls. His coaching staff however, have a quirk to start touchline brawls.

Most likely to:
Score penalties: Quevedo, Amunategui, Chia
Score a direct free kick: Chia, Quevedo, Palmero
Concede a penalty: Ledezma, Puma, Aranaz
Booked for short temper: Puma, Duran, Maquibar

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia is not overly familiar with humiliation. Failure yes, there has been a lot of that since the entry of the Pridnestrovian Republic into the greater multiverse; but humiliation not so much. Until the 32nd Copa Rushmori, when the Pridnestrovian national football team turned in one of the most abject performances that a national team could ever put in in the history of football. Couple that with suspicions that something funny may have been happening in Qusmo and the Pridnestrovian Republic is not really that excited for the 35th Copa Rushmori this time around. However, things are looking up a little bit: Werner Ceausescu has agreed to return to managing the national team for another shot at the regional title, but will his age have finally caught up with him and the team? Only one way to find out, of course.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia
Demonym: Pridnestrovian
Team colors: Green and red
Style modifier: +4 (a return to super-attacking football)
Formation: 3-5-2
Head coach: Werner Ceausescu (76 y/o, Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Ferdinand Julius ABBING 40 y/o, Dinamo Bender Image, vice-captain
Five years as the starting goalkeeper of Dinamo Bender and leading them to the Pridnestrovian Cup twice in those five years is surely the sign of a great goalkeeper, good enough to dethrone Svyatoslav Alkaev from the number 1 spot and take it for himself. Ferdinand Abbing is an excellent space manager and can handle anything from inside his box and also doesn't hesitate to rush out and put fear in the hearts of rushing opposition players. (Basically a clone of Manuel Neuer.)

RCB: Boris Vladislavovich LERMONTOV 27 y/o, Birdingstone United (Ethane)
He's so good at defending that he's divine. At least that's what Ufa claims when they put Boris Lermontov up on the free agent list. But if he's a divine defender then why is the team that came in fifth in the Pridnestrovian Super League allowing Lermontov to switch clubs for free? It seems as if he might just be the missing piece of the puzzle that they need to finally get into the Globe Cup places once again or even a title challenge.

CB: Branimir Aleksandrovich NOCHEVSKI 33 y/o, Union Rheinburg Image
The older brother of Pridnestrovian basketball star Fotij Nochevski. Branimir was always going to be the lesser known of the Nochevski siblings, and both of them knew it. While Fotij gained the fame and the accolades, Branimir kept his head down and worked quietly in the Pridnestrovian lower leagues. His high defensive work rate caught the eye of Union Rheinburg, and he proved instrumental in their title-winning season in the Pridnestrovian Super League in the 2024-25 season as well as two title challenges and Globe Cup campaigns in 2026 and 2027.

LCB: Timur Timurovich SHALYAPIN 31 y/o, Paulsen FC Image (Abanhfleft)
Timur Shalyapin has now been involved in two great escapes with Paulsen FC. Whether it has anything at all to do with him or if Paulsen have really just gotten lucky both times is still up for debate. There's no denying that Shalyapin is a great defender; no one adds Sporting Ceneisis to their CV if they aren't good.

RWB: Yevgeniy Yevgeniyevich TATARINOV 31 y/o, Shakhtar Rheinburg Image

RCM: Yeremey Vasilyevich TSVETNOV 28 y/o, Shakhtar Rheinburg Image

CM: Semyon Ilyich ARSOV 28 y/o, Hullbury Town (Ethane)
Pridnestrovia seems to have a glut of good central midfielders, especially one who can defend their own box and then spread the play out, and Semyon Arsov is just one of them. Arsov tried his best to bring Novosverdlovsk back up to the Pridnestrovian Super League but they just couldn't do it, and the new manager has outright stated that Semyon has no place in his plans.

LCM: Dmitry Anatolyevich NOVIKOV 31 y/o, Pasargad Manitogoro Image (Sultanate of Oontaz)

LWB: Mitrofan Maksimovich MATVEYEV 28 y/o, Ufa Verkhovyansk Image

CF: Akhmet Magomedovich DAVIDOV 33 y/o, Shakhtar Rheinburg Image
It's now two teams on the outside looking in that Akhmet Davidov has helped to the Pridnestrovian Super League title. Everyone knows the story of how Fortuna Novonikolaysk emerged as the most consistent out of all sides during the 2021-22 season to lift their first ever Pridnestrovian title, helped by Davidov's 20 goals that season including a hat trick against Admiral Novorossiysk. Sure, he didn't play as big a role for Shakhtar Rheinburg's 2027 triumph, but 15 goals isn't anything to scoff at either. The sheer fact that he is able to conjure goals seemingly out of nowhere has turned him into a very valuable asset for Shakhtar and Pridnestrovia, a skill that the defensive-minded Gaetano Bernardeschi will be keen to take advantage of this campaign.

CF: Filipp Pavlovich DYKHOVICHNY 32 y/o, Locomotive Imgortur Image (Abanhfleft)
Filipp Dykhovichny had an impressive start to life in the Fleftic Premier League after moving to Eielo Sunlight from Chernomorets Bratsk, and after Eielo were relegated Dykhovichny signed with Locomotive Imgortur, where he has made a name for himself as a dependable goalscoring option. Dykhovichny hasn't been able to do the same for the Pridnestrovian national team but most people agree that it's only a matter of time before Dykhovichny opens his account for the Red Army.

RESERVES
GK: Fyodor Isaakovich EKSTATOV
35 y/o, Fortuna Novonikolaysk Image
Fyodor Ekstatov knows that he will never have a season quite like 2021-22. It's a cliche of course, maybe already an overused one, but in Ekstatov's case it certainly rings true. Clean sheets have been hard to come by in the Pridnestrovian Super League, leading to the stat becoming a little bit meaningless. Of course the ability is still quite highly prized, but more because of its rarity than the ability to get results out of it. Hence why Ekstatov is more than happy to warm the bench for the national team while collecting his wages from Fortuna.

GK: Ivan Kazimirovich KOSTIN 27 y/o, Gryphons Nubalochi Image (Sultanate of Oontaz)

DEF: Kazimir Ivanovich KOVALEVSKY 28 y/o, Botafogo de Maranao Image (Sultanate of Oontaz)

DEF: Jason Edgar REUSS 25 y/o, Paulsen FC Image (Abanhfleft)

DEF: Lucas Arnim SCHEFFEL 29 y/o, FC 23 August Image

DEF: Urgan Abramovich SPETSIUK 32 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image

MID: Ivan Yakovlevich TERESHCHENKO 25 y/o, Etazig Petroleum SC Image (Sultanate of Oontaz)

MID: Timofey Yanovich MARININ 23 y/o, Chernomorets Bratsk Image

MID: Bilal Azad KÜÇÜK 27 y/o, Rotor Dnistrosh Image

MID: Venyamin Vasilyevich TUROV 24 y/o, Kesselburger Kickers Image

FW: Adrian Gervas SALLER 30 y/o, Fortuna Novonikolaysk Image

FW: Petro Metodiev ZHDANOV 35 y/o, Wanda Island Wanderers Image (Abanhfleft)
Petro Zhdanov is a reliable goalscoring threat. That much is undisputed. What is in dispute is whether Zhdanov can be used in the role of a team's main striker or if he needs support, be it in the form of a second striker on the pitch or a substitute coming off the bench. Zhdanov may have only scored 7 league goals during Wanda Island's title-winning season in the Fleftic Premier League but that was because he had help in the form of Leigh Oswald and Arthur MacAlistair. But after Oswald went back to his homeland and MacAlistair was sidelined by injuries throughout the 2028-29 season, Zhdanov tried and failed to take up both of their goalscoring mantles, and Wanda Island's season suffered as a result.

Home Away Third
Modifier: +1

Manager: Meriadoc Griffiths Image, age 50
Assistant: Anna Kováts, age 48 (F)

Goalkeepers
GK: Borka Szekeres, age 26, CA Paulinthal (F)
GK: Szescõ Mezei, age 26, Hellinic Rouge
GK: Ambrus Galambos, age 31, Stein-los Turkish

There is no denying both Szekeres and Mezei are both extremely talented keepers who have shown well in the domestic scene to earn their spot in the team, however Galambos has that little bit of extra and has helped the Wanderers get back to qualifying for the World Cup and getting into the knockouts. It is a more a testament to their skill that they are here while Alvardo and Lo Duca are dropped, though neither is expected to start any of the games in the Copa.

Defenders
LB: Rozalia Sebeôk, age 29, Duke of the North (F)
LB/LW: Deli Ács, age, 28, Directus Image
CB: Lazar Meier, age 29, Directus Image
CB: Líbano Menéndez Herrera, age 29, Holdenburg Image
CB: Laborc Szöllössy, age 28, Spartangrad Image
CB: Asztrik Szalay, age 28, Handon United Image
R/CB: Tabor Csikós, age 28, Spartangrad Image
RB: Igor Topić, age 30, Alnio Image)

While the side might have had a few defensive miscues, for the most part, the team performed as one would expect from a squad that is in the prime of their careers, with Meier being a solid leader in the middle of the park and Laborc Szöllössy a competent partner. Csikós and Ács are both more offensive minded in the fullback positions, though they do make it an all Eura based starting defensive unit. Speed is not an issue either, with Deli on the left being particularly pacy, but it is not an elite level of speed as a group, just good enough to deal with most threats, which is pretty much what you can say for all of their talent. It is as a unit that they are better than any individual amount of skill or talent.

Midfielders

RW: Jan Gersten, age 31, Bastion Image
RW: Ildiko Kálmán, age 25, Lujano Image (F)
AMC: Mária Vöröss, age 28, Royal Canterlot HC Image
A/MC: Márió Szölösi, age 25, Ulsa Image
D/MC: Szalyk Földessy, age 28, Ibini FC Image
D/MC: Zita Szöcs, age 29, Mar Sara FC Image (F)
LW: Pellegrin Csapó, age 25, Marque Image
LW: Etilka Szöllössy, age 29, Manechester City HC Image (F)

After two decades of playing second fiddle to the strikers on the squad, it finally feels as if the midfield is once again the true strength of the Wanderers' team. The team has a natural leader and elite talent in Gersten, even if he is likely not to be starting once the qualifiers begin again, though his dynamic play on the wing is still among the best in the game. Meanwhile in the center of the park, either Vöröss or Szölösi offer great playmaking ability, though the former is the preferred starter with having the better finishing when she does get forward. Szalyk Földessy is the sort of destroyer that ever manager wishes for, with the dual ability to destroy an opposition attack while also calm and technically gifted enough to join the attack when the field is tilted. If there is a weak position for the midfield, it is on the left wing, as Csapó is a bit green still behind the ears, though playing in Brenecia is like to have made him quite adapt at dealing with physical threats.

Strikers

AML/ST: Boriska Nagy, age 23, Spartangrad Image (F)
ST: Réka Szôllôssi, age 30, Stein-los Turkish (F)
ST: Nataša Horvat, age 30, Olympia FC Image (F)
ST: Júlia Müller, age 29, Rozelle Image (F)

At long last age has finally caught up to the striker core and it now falls solely on Müller to lead the line and provide the goal output that the Wanderers will need to secure their victories, with Jager having been dropped from the Copa squad completely. Nagy is the expected partner for the Rozelle striker, being the future for the Wanderers, though both Horvat and Szôllôssi still have the pace and finishing ability to make a difference from off the bench. There is a question as to how much service the strikers will have, with no true hold up player among them or the midfield, instead relying on the blistering pace that the frontline has to bypass the opposition.

Tactics

The World Cup was something of an anomaly, with the team having to play ugly or to the level of their opposition, something that Griffiths is not quite known for. It was a sign that the strikers might have finally been found out and that some mixing up was needed. This entire squad, outside the backline, is filled with very pacy players who have great technical skills, even if they are a bit lacking on the physical side. With that in mind, if the squad is not steamrolling their opponents with a quick passing game to get into the opposition area, then they are likely to play on the counter and use that great speed to their advantage.

Captain: Deli Ács
Corner Taker: Jan Gersten
Set Pieces: Mária Vöröss
Penalties: Júlia Müller

Team Cassadaigua- Copa Rushmori 36

Coach- Brittany Byers (46)
Brittany was a part of the national team roster as a defender in World Cups 78 and 79, and served as the captain of those teams. She was already in her 30's at that time, so she was unable to have a longer career with the team. Those leadership qualities helped her become a success as a coach domestically. This is her second international job as coach, having also led the team in Di Bradini 48, so it is her first senior appearance. Regular manager Stephanie Sweeney has chosen to manage the Di Bradini side (eventually) this cycle so she can get a look at up and coming talent much closer.

Starters in Green
Starters in Blue
Starters in Red

Goalkeepers:
#20- Danielle Cotter (25)- Reserve WC 85 & 86, Starter DBC 47, CR 34
#21- Katie Schnapper (22)- Starter DBC 48
#31- Kelsey Morgan (36)- Starter WC 83-85, Sub WC 81, 82, & 86, Reserve WC 80 & CR 30-31, Starter in DBC 41 & 42, Sub CR 29 & CR 35

This is an exciting opportunity for Danielle Cotter to show her ability at this level. She was able to get into a game in WC 85 qualifying, but has never been handed the reins like this at the senior level. Having traveled with those teams should be a positive for her. Schnapper is a keeper of the future, perhaps, though Cotter is the focus. Morgan is officially listed as a reserve but in reality is here to be an assistant coach. Senior team starter Tiffany Nelson has opted to focus on domestic play.

Defenders:
#3- Brooke Sutter (30)- Starter & Captain DBC 44, Starter WC 84-86, SWC 6, DBC 43 & CR 34-35, Reserve CR 31, WC 82 & 83
#6- Kimberly Carson (30)- Starter WC 84-86, DBC 43, CR 34-35
#4- Katie Standish (26)- Starter WC 85 & 86, Reserve DBC 44 & CR 34-35
#2- Michelle Graves (25)- Starter WC 86, Sub WC 85, Starter CR 35, DBC 47 & Sub CR 34

#24- Sierra Swift (24)- Sub WC 85 & 86, CR 35, Starter DBC 47
#26- Amanda Clayton (24)- Sub WC 86, Starter DBC 47

#32- Summer Speers (24)- Reserve DBC 47, CR 35, WC 86
#39- Shelby McNair (23)- Reserve WC 86, Starter & Captain DBC 48

It was a bit of a surprise that entire group of defenders from World Cup 86 opted in to the Copa Rushmori, but it is for good reason if you look at their ages. Sutter & Carson could have opted out if they wanted too, but otherwise Standish & Graves doing so, and then having others like Swift, Clayton, and Speers impress to a high level could have led to questions about their starting roles, eventually, in WC 87. It is good for this group to continue to work together and develop chemistry, because they could be a unit for quite some time.

Midfielders:
#16- Meghan Wolcott (29) (Herzegovina City FC, Banija)- Starter WC 84-86, CR 34, 35, DBC 44
#19- Preston Newfeld (29)- Starter WC 86, Sub WC 84 & 85, Starter CR 34 & DBC 44
#9- Morgan Rosenblatt (21)- Starter DBC 48
#8- Cassie Bankston (22)- Starter DBC 48

#22- Danielle Porter (25)- Sub WC 86, Reserve WC 84 & 85, Sub CR 34, 35
#23- Sarah Giles (24)- Reserve WC 86, Starter DBC 47, Reserve CR 35

#25- Kaylee Carraway (22)- Starter DBC 48
#34- Heather Barrick (23)- Starter DBC 47, Reserve CR 35

There are several changes with this group, as Zack Pierce has opted out of the team. Another WC starter, Courtney Graham, has been hobbled by a foot injury and will not be able to play, though she did want too. This has allowed two youngsters, Morgan Rosenblatt and Cassie Bankston to get an enormous opportunity. Meghan Wolcott, make no mistake, is the star of this group after being second in goals to Rachel Schanke on the team for the last two World Cups.

Forwards:
#71- Rachel Schanke (29)- (Granddaughter of Jessica, who #17 is retired for. Hence the #71)- Starter WC 84-86 & DBC 44, SWC 6, Sub DBC 43 & WC 82, 83, Reserve WC 81, Starter CR 30, 34 (Captain of CR 34) *** TEAM CAPTAIN***
#27- Madison McClain (27)- Starter WC 86, Sub WC 84 & 85, Starter CR 34, 35

#12- Loreen Hazen (24)- Sub WC 86, Reserve WC 85, Sub DBC 47, CR 35
#29- Kelsey Whitman (24)- Reserve WC 86, Starter DBC 47

#38- Taylor Russo (23)- Reserve WC 84 & 86, Sub CR 34, 35
#37- Bayley Stanton (21)- Starter DBC 47

Rachel Schanke has not always opted in to the Copa Rushmori, but after the third place finish in the last World Cup, she is especially excited about it here. This is not identical, but very similar to the WC 86 group, with the primary exception being Kelsey Whitman's chance as she moves into the substitute role.

MAVINET NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM

INFORMATION
Head Coach: Nguyen Minh Quan
Assistant Coach: Phan Vinh Hien
Trigram: MVN
Nickname: The Water Buffaloes
Demonym: Mavinese
Style: +3

Image

Nguyen Minh Quan - 70 years old

The first head coach of the Mavinet national football team, Nguyen Minh Quan has commanded the Water Buffaloes through all of their competitions so far. His achievement includes winning the Baptism of Fire 72, finishing third in the World Cup 86 qualifying group and reaching the Round of 16 of the Cup of Harmony. Head Coach Minh Quan prefers fast-paced offensive football with the 4-2-3-1 formation, but has demonstrated that he can also adapt to games where the team need to be on the defensive. He tends to favor experienced players, with youngsters like Ho Vu Thanh Hoang and Vu Tien Linh being the exceptions due to the need for speed and energy out on the flanks. He has announced that he will retire from managing the national team after the end of the World Cup 87 cycle.

Image
GOALKEEPERS

#1 Nguyen Hoang Trung
Position: GK | Age: 34 | Height: 186cm | Club: LoKa Trung Son Image
The current captain of the national team after Nguyen Quang Khai retired from international football. Nguyen Hoang Trung has seen all the ups and downs of the team, appearing for his country since its first international appearance in the Baptism of Fire 72. After many years playing for both club and country, Hoang Trung has refined his balanced goalkeeping style with experience and continue to prove himself to be a great leader both on and off the pitch. For a towering figure in front of goal, Hoang Trung is still fairly quick on his feet, despite recent decline in athleticism. The upcoming World Cup cycle will likely be his last as he publicly stated his intention to pass the chance to the next generation.

#13 Do Manh Cuong
Position: GK | Age: 25 | Height: 181cm | Club: Vinh An Dai Hoa Image
The next in line for the national team’s goalkeeper spot, Do Manh Cuong has been groomed to replace Nguyen Hoang Trung when the veteran retires. Vinh An Dai Hoa’s new number 1 impresses with his reflexes, agility and ability to command the area, which he utilizes cleverly to make up for his short stature as a goalkeeper. An adept passer both long and short, Manh Cuong is the ideal goalkeeper for building from the back, although his slow pace and erratic decision making undermine his performance in one-on-one situations.

#21 Le Van Thinh
Position: GK | Age: 22 | Height: 184cm | Club: TelcomMavi FC Image
Le Van Thinh is the latest addition to the group of national team’s goalkeepers. An up-and-rising star from TelcomMavi FC, Van Thinh still has a lot to learn and improve. He has good traits to become a good goalkeeper: physicality, reflexes and speed. He is likely not playing a lot of games yet for the national team, but with more playing experience and personal improvement, Van Thinh will be the one to watch in the near future.

DEFENDERS

#2 Trinh Van Hau
Position: RB | Age: 28 | Height: 177cm | Club: Phuc Chau Port Image
A pacey right back with a good eye for crosses, Trinh Van Hau is usually instructed to overload the right flank with overlaps and provide extra width in attacks. His tendency to get forward also means the right flank’s defense is more exposed at times, but Van Hau is just as good at tackling as he is at crossing, provided he can track back in time.

#22 Ho Phu Cuong
Position: RB | Age: 30 | Height: 176cm | Club: Thuong Giang FC Image
Ho Phu Cuong serves as the backup for Trinh Van Hau in his first call up to the national team. Not as quick on the feet or lethal with the crossing as his younger counterpart, Phu Cuong provides peace of mind in defense with his reliable marking and tackling skills. An aggressive tackler shown times and again in his playing at Thuong Giang FC, Phu Cuong can be a liability on a bad day.

#6 Ha Van Thao
Position: CB | Age: 29 | Height: 180cm | Club: Port Rhovanyon AFC Image
One of the first players in Mavinet to move abroad recently, Ha Van Thao provides the pace for the defense. An agile and quick defender, Van Thao likes to close down opponents quickly and get stuck in. This does backfire at times, especially with fast and technical attacking players, and create problems for the defense but most of the times, his composure and good tackling help the team switch back to attacking quickly.

#5 Ho Hung Dung
Position: CB | Age: 32 | Height: 182cm | Club: Vinh An Dai Hoa Image
The second most senior player in the defense, Ho Hung Dung proves that age has not get to him. Ho Hung Dung is a reliable option at the back for Head Coach Nguyen Minh Quan. Tall, strong and composed, Hung Dung can compete with most opponents in the air and win. Hung Dung is also a superb man marker. His relatively slow pace makes him more suitable for a cover role in a pairing, but he will not hesitate to rush up to press when the situation calls.

#4 Lai Hong Dang
Position: CB | Age: 31 | Height: 179cm | Club: Phuc Chau Port Image
A decent backup option for the center back spots, Hong Dang is a no-nonsense type of center defender and won’t provide much in terms of building plays. His most likely playing scenarios are when the team need to park the bus or deal with highly aggressive teams.

#18 Hoang Duy Hung
Position: CB | Age: 28 | Height: 178cm | Club: Nam Quan Steelers Image
Hoang Duy Hung impresses Head Coach Nguyen Minh Quan with his ability to initiate fast counter attacks with his accurate long pass forward. His defending is fairly average, and his short stature plays to his disadvantage in aerial situations.

#3 Do Phuoc Long
Position: LB | Age: 29 | Height: 174cm | Club: Vinh An Dai Hoa Image
Do Phuoc Long is almost the twin of Trinh Van Hau on the other flank without the obsession with getting forward. Phuoc Long is balanced in his style and provides both good attack and defense, but focuses more on his defend duties. Unless a clear chance to cut deep to the byline is present, most crosses from Phuoc Long are early crosses and don’t quite have the same devastating effects as those from Van Hau.

#23 Tran Khang Anh
Position: LB | Age: 26 | Height: 173cm | Club: TelcomMavi FC Image
A tank on the left flank, Tran Khang Anh uses his sheer strength to overpower his opponents both in offense and defense. He may not be the fastest or most technically gifted, but his strength and high work rate means he can ferociously fight for the ball up and down the flank the whole match.

MIDFIELDERS

#34 Bui The Hien
Position: DM | Age: 27 | Height: 179cm | Club: Phuc Chau Port Image
Bui The Hien quick rise through the ranks of Phuc Chau Port’s talented players gained him a call up to the national team. It is well-deserved: The Hien shows great athleticism and an impressive nose for dangers. His anticipation and clever off the ball movement help cover up weak spots before they are exploited. His weakness lies in the playmaking department, where he lacks the vision and passing skills to create chances from deep.

#8 Lam Tri Thong
Position: DM | Age: 30 | Height: 177cm | Club: Vinh An Dai Hoa Image
Recent came back to Vinh An Dai Hoa after 2 seasons on loan at Banija, Lam Tri Thong continues to be trusted in the defensive midfielder spot at the national team. Now entering his third cycle with the Water Buffaloes, Tri Thong will continue to provide solid defending in front of the center backs, shutting down opponents’ plays with his pace and tackling. He contributes more toward playmaking than The Hien, providing passes from deep to wingers and strikers, as well as an option for long shots.

#10 Tran Hoang Minh
Position: CAM/CM | Age: 30 | Height: 175cm | Club: Baraldhur AFC Image
Currently playing abroad at the high-profile Tikariot club Baraldhur AFC, Tran Hoang Minh is one of the most creative and technically gifted players on the ball for Mavinet. Considered an artist on the front line, Hoang Minh can craft a dangerous chance out of nowhere, especially when employed alongside ex-teammates Vo Thanh Hai and Ho Vu Thanh Hoang. He is also the default free kick taker and has scored many goals from such set pieces. Where he does not so well is in the physical aspect and his tendency to avoid tackles.

#7 Trinh Hoai Linh
Position: CM | Age: 28 | Height: 177cm | Club: Thuong Giang FC Image
Considered the immediately replacement for the retired skipper Nguyen Quang Khai, Hoai Linh shares many qualities with his senior: tireless, good passer and a team player. Hoai Linh does better in the defending aspect, but is also more prone to mistakes when pressed. He also tends to get forward more often, leaving a gap in midfield that can be easily exploited by a good counter attacking team.

#17 Mai Trung Hai
Position: CM | Age: 24 | Height: 175cm | Club: Nam Quan Steelers Image
The most exciting prospect for this cycle, Mai Trung Hai’s style puts him in the category of a roaming playmaker behind the attacking midfielder. His athleticism allows him to roam around constantly during a match, and his creative skills add to the attacking power of the team. A somewhat rebellious personality in the team, Trung Hai can be a double-edged sword: he is unlikely to fully adhere to tactical instructions, but is also an unpredictable threat for the opponents.

#12 Vu Tien Linh
Position: LW | Age: 28 | Height: 177cm | Club: MCB Dai Nam Image
A trusty option in the left winger position, Vu Tien Linh combine speed and technique to make a powerful spear on the flank. A strongly left-footed player, Vu Tien Linh seldom cut inside, instead opts for crosses and horizontal link-ups with the central column. Initially a rival with Ho Vu Thanh Hoang in the national team, the duo has grown to be great partners on two flanks.

#14 Le Chi Tho
Position: LW | Age: 27 | Height: 176cm | Club: ALT Vinh Thuy Image
Considered more of a wide midfielder than a winger, Le Chi Tho tends to drop deeper and doesn’t make many speedy sprint down the flank, instead provides a wide passing option and then relay the ball to more creative players. He provides a backup for the left flank in cases where a cautious approach or deep defense is needed.

#14 Ho Vu Thanh Hoang
Position: RW | Age: 25 | Height: 174cm | Club: La Nueva Avenida Image
One of the best players on the national team since the Baptism of Fire 72, Ho Vu Thanh Hoang has grown from a talented prospect to be an accomplished winger. Considered to be a very technical player, Thanh Hoang can wreak havoc on the flanks with his speed, off-the-ball movement, technique and passing skills. Although mostly deployed on the right flank, Thanh Hoang can also play on the left and has seen occasional successes in this role at both his club and national team. While he excels at breaking through the opponents' defense and creating chances for his teammates, his relative short stature and tendency to avoid getting stuck in in defensive situations means that his flank is usually more exposed to opponent's attacks.

#16 Phung Thieu Van
Position: RW | Age: 27 | Height: 178cm | Club: MCB Dai Nam Image
Phung Thieu Van is an average winger compared to his teammate at MCB Dai Nam, Vu Tien Linh, or Ho Vu Thanh Hoang. He has the speed and dribbling skills to make penetration down the flank, but lacks the creative skills to pick out good passing options. His playing style mostly revolves around getting close to the byline and cross.

FORWARDS

#9 Vo Thanh Hai
Position: ST | Age: 31 | Height: 180cm | Club: Vinh An Dai Hoa Image
The most prolific striker currently playing for the national team, Vo Thanh Hai is the name all young strikers strive to be. He is lethal with both his right foot and his head, and his composure in front of goal has only increased with age. Thanh Hai often finds himself closely marked by the opponent’s defenders, in which case he provides an effective one-two partner to the wingers and attacking midfielders. While not a fast striker, Thanh Hai’s positional sense is what makes him dangerous in the final third.

#19 Tran Duc Vinh
Position: ST | Age: 29 | Height: 175cm | Club: ALT Vinh Thuy Image
The poacher of the national team, Tran Duc Vinh relies on his fast pace to beat the opponents. Although not a particular creative player, Duc Vinh has enough finesse to get the job done. Don’t expect him to contribute much in terms of creating chances though.

#20 Pham Thai Gia
Position: ST | Age: 26 | Height: 185cm | Club: Phuc Chau Port Image
Pham Thai Gia’s most striking characteristic is his towering height, which makes him a formidable force in aerial situations. Make no mistakes: He is just as capable to score with his feet. The big stature makes him a bit unwieldy and easy to mark, but with a good position and a good cross, even a good marker will find it difficult to stop Thai Gia from heading the ball on target. Thai Gia is also known for his bitter rivalry with Vo Thanh Hai due to multiple confrontations between the two at club level, where Vinh An Dai Hoa share a long-standing rivalry with Phuc Chau Port.

Default lineup - Specific lineup for each MD will be posted between cut-offs

Mavinet generally approach matches with an attacking mindset, pressing and attacking in fast tempo from the start. As a match proceeds, the team will continue to press high out of possession, but may fall back when faced with stronger and better attacking opponents. Mavinese attacking players are used to a fluid play style and will roam from their assigned positions during the match to look for space and opportunities. While not physically weak, Mavineses are relatively smaller in stature than other countries' people, so physicality is not their strong suit. Instead, they favor teamwork, speed, technique and movement off the ball to break down opponents' defense and create chances. The fluid style makes Mavinet's defense quite vulnerable to the exploitation of gaps. The defense relies on the ability of the defensive midfielder to cover the pockets of space in front of the defenders, but will usually struggle with quick counter attacks. In addition, Mavinet's defense is known for frequent lapses of concentration and poor decisions, especially toward the end of a match.

ROLES

Nacaltora National Team Roster for Copa Rushmori 36

The Nacaltoran Football Federation is pleased to announce its first national squad since the re-founding of the organization and the first national team since the 67th Baptism of Fire.

Kit:
Image

Manager: Corentin Smits, 50
Smits was born and raised in Babbington, a city of roughly 55,000 residents approximately 70 miles north of Zlaysley. As a player, he signed with local club Babbington Athletic at the age of 19 in the days of the National League. Smits was a respected center-back in the National League for eight seasons before a torn achilles tendon ended is career at the age of 26. Smits played for Babbington Athletic from 1973-1977 and contributed to the magical 1976 season which brought Babbington its only league title. After the 1977 season, Smits signed a deal with Jublesa Kracht and played three seasons there until his career ending injury in 1980.
After the injury, Smits returned to Babbington Athletic in 1982 to begin a coaching career at the newly launched academy. Smits coached various youth teams at Babbington Athletic until 1987 when he took a position as the manager of the team at Babbington University a position he held until the civil war broke out in 1992. The athletic facilities were destroyed by military forces and many of the players fled or fought in the conflict. During the conflict, Smits dedicated his efforts to reuniting families that had been separated due to the fighting through his organization, Finding Home. After eleven years of fighting, the formation of a democratically elected government and the re-establishment of the Nacaltoran Football Federation, Corentin Smits emerged as the clear and obvious choice to lead the Nacaltoran National Team into to this new chapter as manager.

The Squad: Style Modifier: +3

Goalkeepers:
Isaac Truchon, 29 - FC Zuridge Image
Guerin Josseaume, 25 - AC Khego Image
Sacha Hulsman 27 - Flirough 08 Image

All three goalkeepers are coming off of extraordinary seasons domestically and have gotten their current seasons off to strong starts. Isaac Trunchon is the only keeper of the three that has played any international club competition. Truncheon started 4 matches total in both the 4th IFCF Champions League and Challengers Cup. Through 6 Liga A matches for FC Zuridge, Truncheon has 4 shutouts and has only conceded 3 goals. Guerin Josseaume is a very capable backup option. He has solidified himself as one of the tougher goalkeepers in Liga A. His strengths are his natural athleticism and he has cleaned up some of the mental mistakes that haunted him early in his career. Sacha Hulsman is well respected in Liga A in his own right. He provides leadership ability to a younger, inexperienced international squad and can give you quality minutes in a desperate situation.

Defenders
Gülçin te Nijenhuis, 26 - AC Hoford Image
Tristan van de Wal, 23 - Eivora Athletic FC Image
Jelco Worst, 29 - FC Caross Image
Mohcine de Goeij 27 - FC Zuridge Image
Anton Lem, 28 - FC Zlaysley Image
Varden Monjeau, 22 - FC Avoncore Image
Hardouin Ayot, 20 - AC Khego Image
Geoffrey Laurent, 30 - AC Hoford Image
Ferragus Trudeau, 27 - Flirough 08 Image

te Nijenhuis, van de Wal, Worst and de Goeij make up the starting defense for the National squad. This group may very well be the strongest part of the squad. Gülçin te Nijenhuis is the highest paid left-back in Liga A for good reason. He provides a complete package of speed, quickness and an excellent ability to move the ball. In his first season in the Tikariot Premier League, Tristan van de Wal is tied for 2nd in the league for assists. His abilities were no secret last season at Grecaster and even as he takes on a new level of competition in Tikariot, van de Wal is finding some success. He will be relied on to do the same in this competition. Jelco Worst is the old veteran of the group. While he doesn't have any experience in international competition, Worst has a skillset that sets him above many at his position in Liga A. Mohcine de Goeij is the anchor of the defense at defending champions FC Zuridge. He brings a physicality to the group that is tireless. At the reserve positions, Lem, Trudeau and Laurent bring experience and can fill holes seamlessly while the exciting youthful duo of Monjeau and Ayot will be looking to make lasting contributions.

Midfielders
Joshi Dijkslag, 21 - Flirough 08 Image
Fernando van Donselaar, 28 - Grecaster Élite Image
Shivan Wingelaar, 24 - Flirough 08 Image
Roland Marier, 32 - AC Hoford Image
Timothée Cantin, 29 - AC Khego Image
Archaimbau Guérette, 29 - FC Avoncore Image
Nasr-Eddine Bijsterveld, 30 - Xanark City FC Image
Faustin Noël, 32 - AC Hoford Image
Ouissal Samson, 25 - FC Avoncore Image

The midfielder portion of the squad is rather inexperienced and seems to leave a bit desired. There is excitement for twenty-one year old Joshi Dijkslag to get his first opportunity and hope that he can bring a youthful spark to the midfield position. Van Donselaar, Wingelaar, Marier and Cantin are all average Liga A midfielders. The key for success is not to allow them to hurt the collective efforts of the team too much. They are backed up by Archaimbau Guérette, Nasr-Eddine Bijsterveld, Faustin Noël and Ouissal Samson. Bijsterveld is one of three international players on the squad and is in the midst of his first season in the Tikariot Premier League; seeing sporadic time at Xanark City FC. It would not be a surprise to see these reserves become starters towards the end of the competition due to the competitiveness they provide.

Forwards
Raymond Carels, 22 - Cypher Town Image
Sacripant Melanson, 26 - FC Zuridge Image
Yiğit Kalkhoven, 28 - Flirough 08 Image
Malagigi Beaudouin, 27 - FC Caross Image
Wikash Grevink 24, AC Khego Image

This forwards group should provide plenty of chances and help to make up for some of the shortcomings of the midfielders. There are some exciting players in this group to look out for. Raymond Carels, currently playing in the Nephara First Division is getting his big opportunity at the international level. It is a sink or swim situation for the twenty-two year old and it will be interesting to see how he handles the pressure. Carels will get some needed help from Sacripant Melanson who helped lead FC Zuridge to ICFC competition last season. The twenty-six year old has the ability to provide a timely goal. His quick touch ability and speed will certainly be needed. Kalkhoven, Beaudouin and Grevink are all capable replacements to come in at anytime and provide a spark.

Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Dear Elena,

I hope you remember me mentioning that fashion designer, the one who admired my daring raid when I made off with the jewellery his wife had left to his daughter. I read something new that he had said about me the other day. Apparently he called me a ‘gentleman burglar’. I must admit, it made me laugh when I read it. It was in one of those artsy magazines, all about culture and current affairs, all very high-brow and glossy inside. The magazine even
smelled bourgeois! I quite liked it though… ‘Gentleman burglar’, I feel like it sums me up quite well, or at least the trajectory I have been on these past few years. I have grown to enjoy the finer things in life, I know that much is true. When you have a taste of the sweetest nectar, anything less becomes mundane.

His description contrasts nicely to how other people describe me. It also contrasts with the rap sheet I have amassed. They still haven’t discovered the biggest of my masterpieces, though. Selling drugs, aggravated robbery, issuing death threats and the illegal possession of a firearm haven’t been below me. A friend of mine – from the squat days – still describes me as ‘brutal and a little wild’, particularly if I want something. I always point her to my range of passions, a tonic to the beast inside, I’m an aesthete first and foremost and attractive things please me. Whether it be beautiful architecture, classical music, nature or the most epicurean of pleasures… fine wine from the plains of Visoravna or cheese from the mountain goats of Thessia; or artwork of course.

When I began to get properly rich off my work I got a taste for designer clothing. You name it and I bought it: the underwear and denim jeans that the models sell on the billboards of Mytanija’s great cities; the finest shoes, formal and casual, I had to have all of them; cashmere ski hats although I never actually went skiing. It was merely a salve to my greater addiction, the rush I got from being somewhere I was not supposed to be and being able to decide what to take, like the magpie who has no use for the piece of pretty silver lying in the dirt, I just had to have it. It was a wild urge.

One of my other great pleasures is talking about things, the moon and space for example are very interesting to me in particular. The strange nature of space and time within our multiverse raises many questions, how is it that the Mytanar footballers age only a year or so between four Copa Rushmoris? It has stumped the nation’s great physicists for years, the boffins do not have a clue. I must admit I’m unsure too, albeit I don’t claim to be a major scientist, but it is a wonder to think about at the very least. The slippery and evasive nature of the issue resonates with me in some way. Above all and anything else, it always comes back to fine art for me, one way or another.

I loved Monoir for the sweetness that jumps out of his paintings, the innocence of childhood which I never was able to experience myself. It feeds the inner poetry of my existence, somehow touching upon moments I didn’t think I still knew about in the deepest corners of my mind. The Prahecqois people really do seem to have this ability to be tender and delicate in a way that most Mytanars simply do not. Having said that, I did appreciate Zlaticanin for his joyful and dancing colour palette; and Jovac-Savic’s sensuality was always refreshing too.

“Do you think he’s deliberately dropping hints there?” The editor asked, quizzically, his dark black brow – flecked with white hairs betraying the signs of age – raised as if to emphasise his scepticism.

“I’m not sure.” Elena said, sighing. “Look, you were the one who was all for making these letters public a week ago!”

“I know, but we can’t compromise our journalistic integrity either. I can’t just print these and hope that they’re true. I may as well get a fiction writer in to do a weekly story or something if we cannot attest to the fact that he is the guy who pulled off the heist at the Central Art Museum.”

“He’s not even said that he is yet!”

“I know that, but I’m beginning to wonder if it is worth carrying on your correspondence with him to be honest.” The editor said, now letting out a sigh of his own. “It would be a fantastic scoop for us, but there’s a lot of risk here. We need to find a way to either set-up a meeting with him, or where he is, or something like that – something which means we can scope him out.”

“There’s no way he would agree to a meeting.” Elena said, “I’ve kind of alluded to it very vaguely in a couple of letters and he just ignores it—”

“And then goes on about the bloody moon and space!” Her editor interjected. “It’s either him and he’s fully gone around the twist or it is someone selling you a yarn here, Elena.”

“I think that it is weird enough that it pretty much has to be him.” Elena replied, refusing to give up on the potential of this story so easily. “Have you read all the way to the end of the letter?”

“No. Why? Does he make some philosophical point about the age of our national handball team?” The editor said dismissively.

“Not quite.” Elena answered, “But there are some pretty big clues there. I feel like he wants us to know. This is what all of his previous robberies have been working up to, the Central Art Museum heist was his masterpiece, the culmination of his life’s work. It just feels like he’s trying to tell us…”

“…Without actually telling us?” The editor raised his eyebrow again.

“Pretty much.” Elena said.

“Look, we both know this can’t go on forever, I can’t have you just working on this and not coming up with anything concrete. We’ll have to move on from it eventually. You need to either get him so that he’s willing to talk, or we need to move on. These letters will have to be handed to the cops eventually too, we can’t just sit on them forever.”

“I know boss.” Elena felt deflated. There was no chance he’d agree to a meeting. It’d be too risky for him and for all he knew the Policija would be there waiting to arrest him. If it even was him. There was something just nagging, nagging away in the back of her mind though. It just felt like it was him. “Will you read to the end and tell me what you think, though?” She asked, hopefully. “It’s not all pseudo-philosophical bullshit. I promise.”

“Alright, I’ll humour you.”

Most of the apartments in richer areas of Esca had valuable paintings, either stolen from the state as Mytanija nearly broke-up after Kalinina’s rule or supposedly bought off their previous owners, most of whom were conveniently dead. I tried to resist taking them, I knew they would be highly difficult to unload. Selling them would be dangerous, I didn’t yet have reliable sources abroad in order to flog them to art collectors who wouldn’t give the game away. Jewellery was a much easier operation, all in all. The problem with art is that the best pieces are too well known, you cannot just sell them and make a profit. Were an unscrupulous foreign politician even prepared to buy something, they could hardly display it openly in their home in case someone asked one too many questions and then word got back to the previous owner and somehow blame found itself back at my door too. The illegality of the transfer during or after Kalinina’s reign of terror was of course unimportant, nobody cared about that anymore. Those that did were – as I said – often conveniently dead. But the new Mytanija was trying to present itself as the model young nation, recovering from its past and now a good place to do business and diplomacy. A thriving underground trade in fine art just wouldn’t do.

Despite this, the allure of the art occasionally proved overwhelming and I took what I found in those rich apartments. A decent amount passed through my home, I hid some pieces in the cellar and some stayed with me on my walls – I was very careful about who was allowed into my home – and it is in those cases I fell in love. I know exactly the question you will ask when replying, Elena, which pieces were these. I fear you may be sceptical of me, so I’ll tell you, there’s no need for me to be hidden anymore. I have achieved all I wanted to achieve. I took pieces by other Prahecqois artists, like Degnac and Sigasse; an old stone carving which was found in the temples of Aztlano, an homage to their gods; and at that time my most prized piece, a little known early work by Akavov. He didn’t do many portraits, preferring his war and naval scenes as his career went on, but this one was amazing. Artistically it was never praised in the manner that Jovac-Savic’s portraits were, for example, but it stirred something deep inside me. It was interesting, both because of how unique it was – a portrait by Akavov – but also the character, a young male, was someone I felt like I could empathise with.

It may sound like braggadocio, but I have taken some true masterpieces in my time. I’m sure you’re aware. Some of my hauls have gone upwards of a billion coruns! I became more and more daring over time, my methods becoming almost as beautiful as the artwork. One time I used a crossbow with ropes and carabiners to sneak into an apartment whilst the occupants were asleep; another time I thought I recognised the decay of an art gallery’s window’s metal frame and the type of screws from a previous heist which took me several weeks, I chipped away at the paint surrounding it and found this to be true! I was astounded that nobody had considered its vulnerability. My luck and previous experience were at a rendezvous and I perfected the previous attempt in the process, instead of weeks I was there for one night. At times I had to question whether or not I was dreaming these events, the ease with which they came to me.

I feel more at home in these galleries and museums when I enter unannounced, when I’m not allowed to be there. When I go as a visitor I do so with trepidation, a mixture of pleasure and unease engulfs me as soon as I cross the threshold. The paintings provoke me emotionally, it is almost a spiritual connection. When I go as a visitor I try to ignore this, but it is constantly difficult for me. I have to take in the security features that I have to pit my wits against. For my masterpiece I noticed that the motion detectors were meant to flicker from green to red whenever anyone passed by, but that several appeared to be stuck on green. This news delighted me. It felt, almost as if by magic – without the magic wand – that I had the formula to overcome an obstacle. Robbery is an act of imagination and I had noticed something which would allow me to overcome a feature of modernity which often caused problems for people like me. By approaching this work lucidly, professionally, I had found a way around it. I just had to work out which of the sensors were stuck like this, which would not go off in the way they were supposed to and signal the alarm.

“Holy shit.” Elena’s editor said.

“Yeah.” Elena replied, now raising her brow, almost challenging him to remain sceptical.

“Do we know for sure that that was one of the features of the museum’s security system which wasn’t working?” The editor asked.

“I have a contact with the Policija who will tell me.” Elena replied. “Officially they aren’t allowed to say, to try to stop false confessions and the like.”

“Yeah, makes sense.” Her editor said. “They definitely said that there were issues with the alarm system though, didn’t they? It was in your report.”

“One hundred percent. It wasn’t actually the cops, it was the museum’s acting director, Tosic, I think his name was.”

“I think I remember him, Luka, was it?”

“Yeah, that’s the one.”

“Maybe ask him first, instead of involving the cops. You might find that he’s a bit looser with the information he’s willing to give up. Saves the cop for something else too. You can never ask those lot too many questions let me tell you. They won’t thank you for it.”

“That’s not a bad idea boss.”

“Hey, I’ve been in this game a long time Elena.” Her editor smiled. “I’m sorry for the brief bout of scepticism. Always read to the end!”

“Well,” Elena laughed. “I try to tell so many readers just to read the whole article often enough. I know all about that one.”

“Well, this fella seems willing to talk. I think he wants people to know what he’s done, like you said. If you can get this story, nobody will question your articles without reading them to the end ever again. The whole of Mytanija has been on pins about this story!”

“No pressure then boss.” Elena smirked.

“Never.” He smiled. “Go find out about the security system, let’s get ourselves a scoop.”

YINCHENG WORKERS’ INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
YINCHENG, YUEZHOU

There was a certain sense of placelessness surrounding Yincheng International Airport, and indeed, almost every airport in the country. Yuezhou had never had much of an architectural tradition, with each successive government instead preferring to spray its preferred style over entire cityscapes until all traces of a previous government had gone. The result of this particular era in Yue architecture had been anonymous gray slabs of concrete meant to honor the lowly origins of the humble workers that made up the Yue People’s Federation.

The trip from central Esportiva had been an absolute nightmare. Up until the day that FC Russelsheim decided to pay SC Jiangdong six hundred thousand dollars for Yu Wei’s services, South Newlandia and Yuezhou had absolutely no relationship whatsoever. This extended to the air, and as a result, his trip from Rüsselsheim to Yincheng had been an amalgam of regional hubs, sub-regional hubs, and connection upon connection. The trip arguably hadn’t been necessary at all - his penultimate stop had been in Tikariot, which was where he was going to end up, anyways - but the YFA had insisted that the team travel together from Yincheng to ‘boost the national morale’. The void of personality Yu Wei had disembarked into was a fitting destination - brutalist architecture for a brutal trip.

Overall, it hadn’t been a great few months for the aging striker, either. In footballing terms, his debut season at FC Rüsselsheim had been going reasonably well. But outside of his career, the rapid deterioration of the People’s Federation, especially in his hometown of Jiangdong, so close to the violence, filled him with a constant worry. Yu Wei had never been a political man - he was distinctly a member of the generation between the partisans and the critics, the one that had grown up under Ren Qiang’s regime. But it didn’t take any political savvy to recognize that the chaos in adjacent Nanhai could easily expand to the city where he’d spent the past thirty years of his life, as well as where his family and friends still lived.

Rolling his suitcase out through the ramp, Yu Wei stepped into what appeared to be an empty terminal. His gate appeared to be in an alcove, a rare unique trait in what was otherwise a concrete rectangle, and the three or four gates that he could see from his vantage point had all been vacated. He fought to suppress the alarm rising up within him, as, suitcase in hand, he walked through the empty halls. As he left the alcove, though, he ran into where the previous inhabitants of the gates had gone. A giant, bustling crowd stood in front of a large flat-screen display, pointing and gesturing to each other as whatever was playing sank in. Yu Wei managed to jostle his way to the front of the crowd, and his heart sank:

“Again, if you’re just joining us, the traitorous governor Gong Jiabao has declared his intentions for the province of Jiangdong to separate from the glorious People’s Federation. The renegade Republican Army have managed to seize a number of government buildings, owing to the element of surprise, but the vast majority of citizens and Yue military in the region remain loyal to the People’s Federation.”

As the newscaster continued to drone on, a stunned Yu Wei fumbled for his phone. As his phone processed the fact that it was no longer in airplane mode, hundreds of notifications began to pour in. Frantically clearing through them, Yu managed to silence it long enough to pull up the dialer, punching in his parents’ number as soon as humanly possible.

“Gong’s decision was reportedly made after a meeting with fellow renegade governor Zheng Zhoulun, whose forces have been pushed out of mainland Nanhai by the Yue People’s Army and who is now cowering in hiding on Nandao Island. In response, our glorious people’s army, as well as the newly-formed Jiangdong People’s Militia, are already moving in to restore order to the proud people of Jiangdong.”

“Pick up, pick up, pick up…” Yu Wei said, upon which he was greeted with a ‘line busy’ tone. “Goddamn it, why won’t you-”

“Won’t have much luck there, Brother Yu,” said a voice behind him. He spun around and came face to face with Wang Jiahui, another of the team’s backup strikers. The young striker was carrying a heavy-looking canvas bag and a rifle, and was flanked by two stone-faced men in Yue People’s Army uniforms. “The Republicans have cut some phone lines, I’ve heard.”

“Wang Jiahui? What are you doing with...those guys?”

“You’re looking at three new lieutenants in the Jiangdong People’s Militia,” Wang said with a cocky grin. “We’re heading out to Jiangdong right now to go kick some Republican ass. I’d offer you a spot on the helicopter so you can check on your family, but we need all the seats we can get for militiamen, unfortunately.”

“...So are you dropping out of the national team? What’s Yuan Zilai think of all this?”

“Oh, I didn’t bother to ask. But the FA is very on board, said it’d be great publicity. Besides, it’ll be real quick - drop in, kill some Republicans, recapture the statehouse from that bitch Gong, and then fly back for MD1 against Pridnestrovia! Nice and easy.”

“I mean-” Yu Wei started, but Wang Jiahui had already turned to leave. “I’ll check in on your family if there’s time left after we beat the Republicans. Might be able to send a guy to let you know, too. See you!” With that, the striker-turned-partisan was walking away, whistling a cheerful tune as he did so.

Yu Wei stumbled toward the nearest bench and managed to direct himself onto it before putting his head in his hands. This was going to be a rough Copa Rushmori.

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

The Valladar national football team is known for having its traditional 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference) formation, which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad, fully made up of Valladar Liga-1 players, mostly relies on the speed of both Corentin Kremer and Mateo Padilla on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with Leonardo Rojas and Warren Brattan playing the role of defensive midfielders that was well covered by Jonathan Bosetti and Pedro Pedretti in the past: both should be able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. Alfred Valdivia, Aldo Gonckalev, and Danilo Riveros will be playing together up front, and the trio are well prepared under the premises of the typical Valladar forward: very speedy and talented, with the ability to seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

OOC: This RP is posted with prior consultation and permission from Yue Zhou.

Office of the Chancellor
12 Cộng Hòa Street, Đại Hòa, Mavinet

Chancellor Lê Nguyên Bảo stares into the report on the table in front of him, deep in thought. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefed him on the current turmoil happening in Yuezhou per his request. The people of Nanhai have openly revolted against Premier Ren Qiang’s government, and the country is plunged into a civil war. Yuezhou is imploding, and it’s the opening Mavinet have been waiting for.

Why would any of this matter to Chancellor Bảo or Mavinet? It’s known that Yincheng does not have a warm relationship with Đại Hòa, and in fact has refused to let Mavinet have any presence in the country. Historical animosity and the difference in political stance put Mavinet firmly at odds with the socialist government in Yuezhou.

But the Yue people have always been connected to the Mavinese, whether they like it or not. After all, it was Mavinet’s ancestors that brought them here to Rushmore. These people were once the subjects in Mavinet, and generations of Mavinese leadership have always wanted to rebuild that control. The chance has finally come. With some careful maneuver, Mavinet can bring Yuezhou, or at least a part of them, back under its grip. It would not be easy: Ren Qiang’s government is still the recognized government in Yuezhou. Openly interfering in another country’s affairs is a serious political act, one that is sure to trigger bad reactions from the international community and the Mavinese people. Covert actions, on the other hand, are possible…

With a decisive movement, the Chancellor reaches for the phone on the table. He speaks to the aide on the other side: “Call an emergency meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Defense and the Minister of Finance. I want to see them here this afternoon at 2pm.”

2pm

The Ministers enter the Chancellor’s office to find Chancellor Bảo already in his seat waiting for them. “Come in! Have a seat. We’ll start right away.” Chancellor Bảo excitedly greet the three cabinet’s members. As they settle on to the couches in the middle of the room, the Chancellor comes over from his table and shake the hands of the Ministers.

“Gentlemen, thank you for your presence.” Lê Nguyên Bảo sits down on the couch. “Since I called this an emergency meeting, let’s not waste time on formalities. I will go straight to what I want to discuss: Yuezhou. As you already knew, the country is in the midst of a civil war, with the southern province of Nanhai fighting against the Yincheng government. I want to extend supports to the Nanhai people in their fight for independence. What do you think?” Chancellor Bảo asks, carefully observing the reactions on the face of each Minister.

“What kind of support, sir?” Trần Hòa Bình, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, responds with a hesitant tone.

“Financial support. Material support. Maybe even military support, if the situation allows.”

“That would be dangerous, sir. If words got out that we are funding a separatist faction, Mavinet will come under heavy criticisms, the opposition in the National Council is sure to use this to attack you. That’s not to mention the people, they won’t be happy with their tax money being spent on funding rebellions in foreign lands.”

Lê Nguyên Bảo puts a slight smile on his face. He knew Trần Hòa Bình would be the first to raise concerns, knowing how cautious the guy is. “That’s why we should not let words got out, Bình. Look, I know it is risky, but this is a good chance for us to get some control over Yuezhou. If we make a deal to help the separatists get their independence, we can exert our influence in the new government, and having influence in Nanhai’s government would be good for our economic and political, maybe even military interests in that area. As long as no one knows exactly what we send there, we can just say that our aids come to Yuezhou purely for humanitarian purposes, which is perfectly normal for the current circumstances.” the Chancellor asserts.

Trần Hòa Bình still has a concerned look on his face, but knowing the Chancellor, it would be pointless to try to dissuade him from something he already has a plan for. The room fell into silence for a few seconds.

“In that case, sir, may I suggest we start with financial support for Nanhai. The budget for international aid can definitely be used.” Hồ Đức Hòa, the Minister of Finance, breaks the silence.

“That’s the second step, actually. First, we need to meet with the Nanhai government and negotiate the terms for our support. I will communicate our demands in my correspondence to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but the most important condition would be the opening up of Nanhai’s oil reserves to our companies. Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Defense can prepare a preliminary draft of what we can offer and send to me for review by the end of the week. For the negotiations, I want the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to handle them discreetly. We want to appear we are serious about helping them, but don’t attract any attention. Chiến [the Minister of Defense], have the materiel ready and when Nanhai agrees to our terms, dispatch the shipments as soon as possible.”

“Are we going to prepare for any direct military involvement, sir?” asks Vũ Minh Chiến, the Minister of Defense.

“No, I believe we won’t have to go that far. Ren Qiang is not prepared to handle a crisis this serious. With our support, the rebels can handle things on their own. We will get what we want without firing any bullet.” Chancellor Bảo makes a gun-firing gesture with his fingers, appearing confident that his plan will succeed. “Are we all clear? Is there any more questions?”

The Ministers look at one another without saying anything. It’s obvious that they don’t share the confidence the Chancellor has. But at the same time, these things are no surprises to them. It’s a game of geopolitics, and Chancellor Bảo is determined to win it, even at the cost of his political career should Mavinet’s involvement with the separatists is discovered.

“No, all clear sir.” One by one, the Ministers answer. “Then chop chop. Let’s get to work!” the Chancellor claps his hands and stands up to signal that the meeting has concluded.

As the last Minister leaves the room, Chancellor Bảo returns to his desk to prepare his list of demands. If this plan succeeds, he will be the Chancellor that extends Mavinet’s power beyond its borders, but if it fails, it may become a blunder he cannot recover from. Nevertheless, it is a gamble he is much willing to make.

Nepharan football is based around playing hard, pressing aggressively, playing for keeps. Occasionally this leaves gaps behind the high defensive line, though most Nepharan goalkeepers are in the sweeping mould these days to compensate. Marchers are, by and large, a physically imposing folk, and eager to throw their size around. The footballing culture is intensely competitive, and those that survive to make their way to the top are hellbent on winning at any cost. Elbows to the face. Subtle digs in the ribs. Diving is dishonest when opponents do it but streetwise when Nepharim do it. In short, Nephara are the bully from two years above who picked you, specifically, out as a natural target.

That is often the foreign perspective, but it overlooks a key fact; Nepharan football can honestly be beautiful to watch. Generations of players brought up on dry plains or asphalt play the ball quickly and fearlessly along the ground, never sideways when there's a forward option open, always looking to stretch and probe and stay one really good pass away from a goal. Nepharim are undoubtedly physical, even cynical, but their success has been built off the backs of ruthless, fast-paced passing football.

Most of the time, Nephara will muster in a 4-4-2, but are prepared to put an extra body in midfield when the battle for control is being lost.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharim ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

Manager - Daniella Strauss - Age 53
Assistant Manager - Ivy Herrick - Age 44
A former striker, Strauss has never done it at a truly big club - but then, the obvious candidates tend to fail for Nephara. Strauss turned a terrible Corvette side into a credible Premiership outfit for a time, and started to revitalise Southfell United before the Cormorants came calling. Unusually for Nepharim, she likes to keep ahold of the ball, but likes to play quick, aggressive football, with a high line choking the opposition. Monica Brightwater has hung up her proverbial boots; Strauss is now master, she requires an apprentice. So she's stolen the irascible Herrick, who believes herself to be something like fifteen years older after a stint greasy churning in Bonesea, an undoubted hard woman with a keen tactical mind.

Goalkeepers
Core
1 - GK - Aranea Provost (Image Holdenberg) - Age 24 - 10 caps, 8 clean sheets
Anyone with any sense has their eye on Provost. She's sharp, spry, with the height and deceptive power to command her area, and only getting better year on year. She broke through at Brookford, playing every minute across a successful season, and is now winning a place at Holdenberg.

12 - GK - Alexandra Markgraf (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 27 - 1 cap
Already well-travelled, Markgraf is making her mark as an athletic, agile shot-stopper, the kind of goalkeeper who can fly into the top corner and flick the ball over the top in a single fluid motion. There is an error in her game every now and again, but her skill will soon catch up to her confidence.

20 - GK - Fasolt Senninger (Image Creed United) - Age 29 - 5 caps, 1 clean sheet
Another former Stags backup who had to leave for fresh air, Senninger combines the physique of a shaved bear with balletic reflexes. An excellent, graceful shot-stopper, but lacking in the finer things.

Defenders
2 - RB - Rovena Stride (Image AFC Treason) - Age 26 - 67 caps, 6 goals
Stride's surname is apt. She's fast; very fast, and just gets the simple things right. All of them at once, racing upfield for overlapping runs to lash in raking low crosses, before tracking back at full speed to put in a crunching sliding tackle. A world-class player.

3 - Vivica Muscadin (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 25 - 32 caps, 3 goals
Like many prospects from the Moths, Muscadin is sharp and trained to win at any and all costs. She strides the field with an easy arrogance and a ferocious burst of pace, and anyone trying to get past her is due a stud in the back of the knee. So, no, she's not interested in playing nice.

5 - CB - Roxelana Thorn (Image Revolutionaries, c) - Age 30 - 125 caps, 8 goals
Tall, decisive and muscular, Thorn throws herself fearlessly into any challenge to keep the ball out of her net. The art of defending - the joy of defending - is not lost, not as long as Thorn is here. She has grown into a truly world-class defender, and is currently an inspirational captain.

6 - CB - Cedella Verlander (Image AFC Corvistone) - Age 27 - 11 caps
Verlander broke into the last squad through dint of her versatility, but is more likely this time going to be, well, actually played in her natural position. She snaps into challenges with aplomb, and can count on pace as a major virtue.

18 - RB - Linde Rostock (Image Stahlburg City) - Age 25 - 20 caps, 1 goal
A diminutive youth who slotted in naturally to a fullback position, Rostock took that training and then grew into a lean, powerful 5'8" frame. She's got an easy sharpness on the ball backed up by a brutal physicality where she has to. Defensively, she's peerless. Going forward, perhaps, slightly uninspired. But she's a top-class player in the making.

19 - LB - Bremusa Strassman (Image Crisisbless) - Age 26 - 14 caps, 1 goal
A composed, mature fullback who has had to bide her time to get the nod for her club, but has found a relative flood of caps recently. The major beneficiary of Vivica Muscadin's injury and Sander Katarec's lack of form, she will hope to lay down a marker for cycles going forward.

22 - CB - Gabriel Lockheed (ImageAFC Treason) - Age 29 - 40 caps, 2 goals
Lockheed is a powerhouse, someone who was on no lists of future greats until injuries at the Stags thrust him into the firing line and he stood up flawlessly to the task. He combines physicality with intelligence and no small mastery of the dark arts.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Tawny Shone (Image Brinemouth) - Age 30 - 112 caps, 7 goals
A true street-scrapper, from the hard part of Sabrefell. That reflects in her play, uncompromising and full-throttle despite her relatively small size, scampering around and committing niggling fouls.and sneaky ankle-taps. She's far more than a destroyer, though, and that becomes clear the moment she glides onto the ball and picks out a perfect pass from range.

7 - RM - Anselm Koerner (Image 1830 Cathair) - Age 24 - 3 caps, 1 goal
Surprisingly, a winger without all that much flair. Koerner's best aspects are blinding pace, bruising muscle and relentless physicality, and he's set to ride that to the top.

8 - CM - Lothaire Cromwell (Image AC Izotz Zubia) - Age 24 - 22 caps, 5 goals
Cromwell has serious potential, the kind of player whose statistical multi-scale radar looks like a circle. He held down the midfield for the U21s and can certainly play that role, but at heart he needs to run, and room to run forward into the box at the perfect moment. He's tall, strong, fast, he'll brawl, he can pick out a pass, and he's a leader in the making.

13 - RM/LM - Ysabet Belgrade (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 23 - 13 caps, 4 goals
A combative firebrand on and off the pitch, Belgrade really just wants to make trouble. Bad things happen to defenders when she's involved. Relentless when taking on defenders and making surging, violent runs that slam into opposing defences and scatter opponents in their wake.

15 - HM - Mercurio Kastriot (Image Crisisbless) - Age 29 - 41 caps
While Kastriot is a boxy, scrappy bruiser of a man, he's known as one of the Premiership's most progressive, oddly elegant defensive midfielders in possession. He will use any and all tricks to stop the opponent dead in their tracks, and knows just about every way to kill a game.

16 - LM - Rasmus Caracole (Image Coret Hawks) - Age 26 - 15 caps, 4 goals
Smart, rangy and frictionless, Caracole's the thinking man's winger. He can occasionally hesitate a little too long, but the payoff tends to be worth it; that ball is going precisely where it's needed to. He's a quiet sort, but a tireless worker.

21 - CM - Chimera Moxham (Image Spartangrad) - Age 31 - 129 caps, 52 goals
Aren't playmakers meant to be classy? Moxham isn't. She's arrogant, but not in an elegant way, she just always believes she knows the right thing to do, on and off the pitch. Perhaps annoyingly, she's usually right. Decision-making can be a bit flaky, but she has the pace, the eye for goal and even the defensive workrate to make up for it.

23 - RW - Janna Sauthier (Image CASK Thorsborg) - Age 24 - Uncapped
Lean, fine-boned and detemined to cut her own path through the game, Sauthier decided she could either be lost in the crowd in Nephara or become a star abroad. Needless to say, given her presence here, it's paid off.

Forwards
9 - ST - Kurtis Bastable (Image Ulsa) - Age 29 - 93 caps, 58 goals
A sturdy figure with a low centre of gravity, immense strength and resilience, a deceptive change of pace and an unerring eye for goal, Bastable has emerged as the natural successor to Estrella Hawke, though he's less versatile in his skillset and better with the ball at his feet.

10 - ST - Konrad Lovelace (Image Revolutionaries) - Age 27 - 54 caps, 28 goals
'The new Estrella Hawke', according to excitable headlines that don't pay attention to anything that matters. They're both from Starling, they're both strikers, they're both athletic, they're both good. Thus far, Lovelace lacks a real dimension besides blistering pace, football intelligence and a ruthless finish - and also lacks a right boot. But he can still do the damage.

11 - ST - Latona Basilisk (Image Coret Hawks) - Age 23 - 10 caps, 7 goals
Former Young Galactico Basilisk is self-assured to the point of parody, right to the point of having made 'Basilisking' - purported to be her petrifying stare one-on-one with goalkeepers - not only part of her brand, but trademarked. So you'd better believe it matters to say: she's very nearly as good as she thinks she is.

14 - ST - Arista Tzorvas (Image CA Paulinthal) - Age 29 - 34 caps, 16 goals
Tzorvas has been around in her time, and swayed in and out of international reckoning. Regardless, she appears to have timed her run well. When high on confidence, and of late she's been high on confidence, Tzorvas combines top-quality athleticism with ruthless finishing, a generally strong all-rounder up front.

17 - RW/ST - Traudl Mrdja (Image Vermillion Rage) - Age 24 - 8 caps, 4 goals
Rangy and raw-boned, a part of Mrdja still can't believe she's come this far. She made her name by simply being fearless on a local side in Rochford that had cause to fear most anyone. A player of relentless energy who relishes the chance to press hard and early.

Team Information
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Attributes: Very athletic team
Offensive Tactics: Frang utilises the superb athleticism of his squad by employing a rapid style of play that involves many long-balls and put-throughs. Although this allows the players to get the most out of their physical abilities, plays are more susceptible to being intercepted or broken down. The team specialises in counterattacks by pushing the ball quickly and gaining favourable positions for the attacking force.
Defensive Tactics: Frang focuses on cutting plays out with the athleticism of his squad, and as such they focus (and sometimes overcommit) on interceptions and making sure that they transition from offense to defense with speed.

Savojar Roster for Copa Rushmori 36

Coming off their second Copa Rushmori final in a row, losing to Nephara at home in overtime, the Savojars are looking for revenge in Tikariot and Graentfjall. Contrary to the past two editions, they are not coming off a disappointment and public criticism of a botched World Cup qualification, but from a trip to the world’s biggest stage. Now, hopes are high that they can make a Copa final hattrick - this time with a better end.

TEAM

STAFF

Coach: Mikaela Rangren
Age: 50 // Coach since: Copa Rushmori 34
Mikaela Rangren has been working for the National Team as an assistant for a long time, before being handed the reins after the sacking of Rune Zackrisson during WCQ 84. She has been given a contract until the end of WC 86, and her appointment represents a turn away from intricate tactics and towards more Savojar virtues. With a more direct approach to the game, relying on Savojarna’s physical culture and passionate, fighting spirit, she has found some success that her predecessors could not find. Rangren has shown a particular strength in keeping the team together, and it seemed like her continued presence as a mediator may have helped to get the team back on track quickly. Reaching two finals of the Copa Rushmori in succession and losing both of them in extra time or penalties, she has been among the better coaches historically; securing qualification to the World Cup has probably cemented her among the Savojar greats.

Coaching Team: Johan Andreassen, Alexey Jotanov, Lasse Tjoer
Ages: 49, 52, 41 // Special functions: Main assistant, Video coach, Physical trainer
Andreassen is an old friend of Rangren who has gone through coaching education together with her. He now supports her as an all-round assistant, although he will probably focus more on leading the team on the pitch rather than supporting tactics and preparation.
Jotanov is a rather creative tactical mind and one half of the U-21 co-coaching team. He has been brought on board as part of the WC90 project to create a more unified approach across the three Savojar national teams (adult, U21, U18). He will be here mainly to support Rangren off the pitch with video trainings and tactics briefing.
Lasse Tjoer is the new physical coach after the retirement of the previous conditional trainer Asgeir Rundberg, and has previously worked for multiple SFS teams. He places a lot of emphasis on discipline, but gives the players a large amount of freedom to tune their practice regime to their own tastes as long as they stick to the targets. He is quite popular in the team, and a good motivator.

Goalkeeper Coach: Valtteri Andersson
Age: 51
Andersson was a long-term goalkeeper for Energie Thorsborg and got directly transferred into the club's youth department when he retired at age 33. Following some good work with the club's youth department, he got trained as a GK coach and worked with the first team and the U21 of Energie for a while before being brought onto the squad of the NT early on. He still works with Energie on the side and is reputed to be very good at developing a goalkeeper's weaknesses.

Doctor: Dr. Christer Ljungberg
Age: 57
Christer is the head of the medical team of the Savojar NT and generally has a reputation of being the team’s good soul. Many players have come to him over the years to discuss their insecurities or physical problems, to the point that many consider Ljungberg to essentially be a second mental coach.

CORE TEAM

#1 Iiro Pakanen
Position: GK // Age: 29 // Height: 194 cm // Club: Jinja City FC (BNJ)
Pakanen is a pretty strong goalkeeper with good reflexes on the line and a very calm behaviour, helped by his experience on the international stage with Jinja City. As the successor to the Savojar legend Viktorija Petrova, he has taken over the goal mouth with a less flashy, but very consistent and successful style that has carried Savojarna to record heights on the international stage.

#2 Flemming Skov
Position: RB // Age: 28 // Height: 185 cm // Club: Admiral Storevik
Part of the legendary DBC 45 squad, Skov’s career has stalled a little in his early twenties, but he has come back strong since his transfer to Admiral and assumed the position in the national team as Nurkanen started flagging. He is an aggressive fullback who will provide offensive pressure, and known for both speed and stamina.

#3 Milla Viipuri
Position: LB // Age: 22 // Height: 179 cm // Club: Swanguard Athletic (QUE)
Viipuri, who moved to Quebec early, can play on both sides and is defensively solid with very few sparkles, but a lot of solidarity and discipline. Received some attention for her precise tackles and good positional play. On the ball, she is likely to play a solid pass, but is very conservative. Very much a call-up of the “future promise” nature, but has shown domestically and in the WC campaign that she can hold her own.

#4 Polina Zirkova
Position: CB // Age: 26 // Height: 182 cm // Club: Ulsa (EUR)
Zirkova is a pretty exciting defensive player and considered one of the most exciting young players in Savojarna right now. She is defensively solid, although not impassable. Her excitement comes from the abilities in building up the game. Zirkova often moves up to assist the midfielders, or plays long balls from the back to one of the wingers hanging back or even all the way to the playmaker. She also is confident on the ball herself, occasionally dazzling the audience with a good dribble. However, sometimes her judgement is lacking and she commits mistakes unnecessarily.

#5 Matts Pedersen
Position: LB // Age: 27 // Height: 187 cm // Club: Tanrısal (PAS)
Pedersen is another fast, aggressive fullback who is extremely persistent, but joins the offence aggressively. This leads to him being vulnerable to counters over the left side, where he might not be able to react in time if he was too advanced before. He has excellent 1v1 skills on both sides of the ball, but is a bit lacking in passing accuracy. His past issues with decision-making are now considered largely overcome thanks to his high-level experience in Pasarga, and he is considered a mental leader in the team.

#6 Otso Ilkkanen
Position: DM // Age: 25 // Height: 183 cm // Club: FC Rotmunde 1932 (STL)
Ilkkanen is a physical, defensive player with little ball-handling skills. He has a very strong shot, making him a dangerous threat from the back line. Not incredibly aggressive despite his physical skills, and a bit weak in the air, but a strong anchor player. He has played significant minutes at the youth level, earning him a move to Siovanija & Teusland, and is now looking to take root in the adult team. Crown favourite to inherit Andersson’s role.

#7 Mikhail Jashkin
Position: RF // Age: 27 // Height: 176 cm // Club: Directus (EUR)
A fast and technically gifted hybrid winger who is known for a deadly eye and his laser-like passes. While he has decent crossing skills, he tends to opt for a flat pass into the box or a dribbling instead, acting almost as a false nine that plays wide on the right. He is one of the most observed players on the team, and his move to Eura has greatly helped him to develop further into the dominating forward he is today. Holds the title of “most expensive Savojar player in history” as he moved from Farrenton Athletic to Directus for 24 million NSD.

#8 Victoria Maersk [C]
Position: CM // Age: 33 // Height: 157 cm // Club: Vermillion Rage (NPH)
Maersk is a classical box-to-box allrounder who is strong in most tasks, besides her aerial inferiority due to height, and has a high stamina and speed. While not excelling at anything, she is considered a utility player that will probably see a lot of playtime in various positions and roles depending on the situation. Moved to North Sabrefell in a state of insecurity and established herself as a regular in the Premiership, now leading Vermillion Rage.

#9 Sergey Nweke
Position: ST // Age: 24 // Height: 184 cm // Club: CASK Thorsborg
Half-Banijan striker Sergey Nweke has played his youth football in Savojarna, but was increasingly linked with Banija’s national team - until a sudden call-up to the Cup of Harmony. He is a solid, physically strong and quick player with good finishing capabilities and a nose for dangerous openings. While Nweke is rarely playing from the start, he fits a multitude of different situations and can expect regular play.

#10 Morten Poulsen
Position: OM // Age: 27 // Height: 180 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Poulsen grew from shaky prospect to bona-fide playmaker at Parti, and has enjoyed the love of their fans for a while now despite being in a bit of a slump recently. A creative player that has a large stamina and a good shot, but defensively lacks caution sometimes. Plays in a very similar system at Partisan, although with more offensive freedom; the lack of defensive consciousness in his play made Lundell the first choice.

#11 Simon Jacobsen
Position: ST // Age: 26 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Alnio (CMT)
The (Savojarised) namesake of Starblaydi legend Simeone di Bradini has played in two DBCs, and has now rejoined the national team following some decent seasons in Chromatika. He is a fast striker using his positioning and speed as a key weapon, working best in conjunction with another, more physical striker who can open gaps for him. Profited from a more speed-based tactic of the national team, and moved into the starting position. Defensively, he runs a lot and has good pressing skills, but sometimes lacks in ball-winning ability.

#12 Sergey Sharin
Position: GK // Age: 22 // Height: 182 cm // Club: FK Torpedo Pawlograd
Sergey Sharin has made the move from top talent to serious pro thanks to the fallout between Jurtanen and Radu Bartok during the SFS 8 season, leading to Sharin starting for Torpedo in much of the second half of the SFS, making him one of the few young goalkeepers in Savojarna who have professional experience. He is a clever keeper who thinks ahead and positions excellently, but commonly struggles in reactive situations on the line. Now he has been brought into the national team as a long-term option.

#13 Anja Loeseth
Position: RB // Age: 20 // Height: 176 cm // Club: Dynamo Sjoedrhavn U21
The sister of DBC 45 Savojarna captain Victor Loeseth, and playing at the same club, she is a fast and offensively minded player. She is sometimes even used as a more defensive RM if required, as she has a good cross and a good ability to take the ball away from an opponent in running. Loeseth's biggest weaknesses are her likelihood to play more aggressively than is appropriate, and a slight lack of dribble and short passing skill.

#14 Rika Lundell
Position: OM // Age: 25 // Height: 167 cm // Club: North Laithland (NPH)
Having emerged more or less out of nowhere, Rika Lundell has become one of the stars of the current SFS season and is considered part of the miraculous rise of Rotor Värstjö. Lundell is an extremely agile player with dazzling technique, and a good eye for openings and passing lanes. Her defensive capabilities, as well as her chance at withstanding physical opposition, are a bit lacklustre, but she often finds ways to compensate by thinking ahead and using her speed to her advantage.

#15 Juhamatti Rajala
Position: LF // Age: 25 // Height: 190 cm // Club: Brisara FC (CMT)
Rajala is extremely hard to contain because of his explosivity and the fact that despite his height and weight of 92 kg, he accelerates extremely fast. His top speed is actually not that great, and he is somewhat limited in dribbling, but he can be a good utility player to disrupt the opponents. Supposed to grow into a starting role at CASK, he was outplayed by Euran prodigy Wallace Pickton and moved to Chromatika, where he assumed a crucial role at Brisara that earned him an international callup.

#16 Vidkun Nymark
Position: CB // Age: 22 // Height: 193 cm // Club: Laketown Rangers (TAE)
Nymark is a Savojar centre-back straight from a picture book: Strong and tall, heading out every cross coming his way and making strikers intimidated by sheer presence. Some people feared he may struggle with speedier and cleverer international pro competition, but his stint at Laketown Rangers showed that this was completely unfounded - he has established himself in Taeshan as a defensive force.

#17 Dmitri Dmitriev
Position: CB // Age: 23 // Height: 204 cm // Club: Admiral Storevik
Dmitriev is extremely tall, and a towering presence in the box, and a strong header, which made him a threat on both sides in the past. When on the ball, he is limited, often relying on a quick pass to the side or a clearance; however, he has established himself to be defensively strong enough to make up for these limitations.

#18 Ola Lapanen
Position: MS // Age: 25 // Height: 171 cm // Club: Capetown Crocs (TAE)
Lapanen is a short player that can play either as a playmaker or a striker. In either case, he lurks between the lines and has a brilliant eye for through passes or dribblings. He is an excellent dribbler and has a very precise shot, but lacks a bit in killer instinct as well as in height, making him a weak header. Best used behind the lines or together with a tall striker.

#19 Krister Voynov
Position: LF // Age: 29 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Raynor City United (VAL)
Potentially the most exciting single player in the Savojar team, this fast and skilful winger is a constant threat. Voynov loves to swing inside to challenge an opposing defender directly and is extremely good in 1v1 situations. He also scores many goals with a strong and precise shot, and has accurate passing skills as well. His main weakness is a lack of defensive work, forcing the left side to cover for his roaming.

#20 Paddi Gren
Position: CM // Age: 27 // Height: 177 cm // Club: CASK Thorsborg
Gren is a midfielder that can be used in a variety of positions, with good dribbling skills and a special taste for dangerous free kicks. Although he plays in a playmaker position for CASK, his strength lies more in winning and carrying the ball, making him more of a natural shuttler. He is likely to come off the bench to make sure that Savojarna have options, most likely either in the playmaking position or as a replacement for Maersk in the end of the game.

#21 Kristina Midtjaer
Position: RF // Age: 24 // Height: 177 cm // Club: Rockridge Phoenix (BRE)
Midtjaer is a fast winger who runs up and down the sidelines, but cuts in at sharp angles regularly. She almost always runs down the right line and shows very late whether she will aim for a cross or a cut towards the goal. Technically brilliant, but still a bit lacking in defence; Brenecia was supposed to toughen her up, which seemed to have worked based on the World Cup.

#22 Aleksandra Virulainen
Position: GK // Age: 25 // Height: 181 cm // Club: Partisan Sjoedrhavn
Virulainen uses a great awareness and control of the box to counter-act her comparatively lower height and has shown brilliant oversight. She is among the best goalkeepers in Savojarna, and by far the best of her age when it comes to ball-on-foot skills. Both at Partisan and at the national team, she has quickly established herself and is now second in the chain behind Pakanen.

#23 Roman Forsberg
Position: CB // Age: 29 // Height: 188 cm // Club: Olympia Borograd (STL)
Forsberg is another one of the Savojar ball-secure, modern CB's, but shows some nerves at times. He has greatly profited from taking on a more important role in his club and has cut down on his mistakes, but is still prone to occasional over-aggressive positioning or similar faults. His best skill is his heading, as he is a very strong jumper and tall player. He will often join the attack on standards.
