"Hello I'm Inos Dello in Lithatrius reporting on the rugby world cup."

"And I'm Seno Jurk your co-host for the cup."

"Here we are then."

"Yes and what a day it's been."

"The group draw was a bad one for Toiletdonia. Somewhereistonia, Delaclava and Casari."

"All four of those teams will be tough opponents and I think we could be in for a hard ride."

"If Toiletdonia don't put 120% into every game they could be heading home quickly."

"Well here is the man making it happen: Hullo Femos."

"Hi guy's."

"What is stance on the group draw?"

"Were in for a tough ride but I'm confident that we can still progress to the next round and the lads are going to try they're hardest to win us a spot in the second round."

"What is this year target."

"Well we're in it to win it and we won't settle for less than victory. There is no point entering without going for glory."

"Well we all wish the best to you and the nations behind you."

"Thanks bye."

"Well that all for today folk but tune in tommarrow on Ocean sports 1 for more rugby action!"

"Goodnight!"

"Sir?" Catherine Kingston asked.

"Come in," DOC President Len Rogerre said.

"The group draw came out for the 15th Rugby World Cup."

"We signed up for that thing?"

"Yes, sir, we did."

"Hmm," Len said, scratching his chin. "Wait, that's the thing we're hosting, right?"

"We did put in a bid, sir, yes."

"Didn't we win the voting?"

"Uh..." Catherine didn't know what to say. "We lost to Lithatrius. Five votes got put in, we lost 2-1."

"That damn bloc," Len muttered. "The group draw, you said? Who is it?"

"Toiletdonia-"

"That's two wins," Len said, grinning.

"Casari-"

"Oh, dear," Len's smile fading.

"Somewhereistonia."

Len banged his head on his desk, and said, "That's an impossible draw! There's no way we get out of that alive!"

"The key's through Casari, sir," Catherine said. "We get one win against them, beat them by enough, everything else according to plan, and we've got it. Somewhereistonia goes 6-0, Casari 3-3, us 3-3, Toiletdonia 0-6. After that, it's point difference."

Len smiled and nodded. "That does, of course, mean one thing," Catherine said.

"What?" Len asked.

"You've got to release a roster, make a coach, all that stuff."

"Really? Why?" Len groaned.

"To make these smelly hosts happy, feed our ranking, make Margaret happy? I don't know! It just looks less embarrassing when we don't get shut out by Palmouth."

That shut up Len, who went back to papers. "Sir," Catherine pressed on, "there's something I wanted to ask you. There's this guy I want to go out with."

"I'm not your relationship boss," Len said, confused.

"Even if the guy's Ben Paktur?" Catherine shot back.

Laughing, Len replied, "Well, I guess then, I technically am. Yes, you can go out with him."

"Is that it?" Catherine asked.

"Close the door," Len said.

Catherine closed the door and stood there. Len stared at her exasperatedly. Catherine suddenly realized, "With me on the other side of it?"

Len nodded, and Catherine exited.

Alberto Smith, the newly appointed head coach of our nations Rugby Union side ahead of their first ever competition, was very frank with reporters today when asked about his sides chances of progression. “nil” was the one-word answer. “We don’t have the infrastructure to compete with the world’s best sides just yet, and although domestically the Union game is thriving, with our professional players training in farmers fields we are never going to be able to compete with Kelssek, Silver Beach and The Weegies.“ Continued Smith, in what was a badly-disguised dig at the nation’s football-centric grassroots sports program.

“But that is for us to change. We have a chance now – a chance Rugby Union has never had before in this country – to change perceptions of the sport. We wont, or atleast its highly unlikely, get out of our group, but the team will play with 100% commitment in every game, and will be proud to play for our great nation”

Smith who, along with his trusty assistant Pedro Domingo, led the western Aberdonia region to their first inter-district championship title for 20 years last month, is to announce his RWC squad tomorrow and is expected to include many players from that Aberdonia squad. Speaking at today’s group-stage draw in Mikhaylovka, a stone’s throw from the venue for the final, Smith recalled “Its a great squad of players, many of whom have won the National Cup with their clubs, but it is also a young squad and the majority of it will be around for years to come. With this group, Aberdonia can reclaim its rightful place at the top of domestic rugby, and even transfer that to the international stage when bolstered by the best the other regions can supply.”

However one man who will not be taking part in the tournament is veteran second row Dimitri Gonzales. Gonzales, who has won a record 12 National Cups, captained the southern district to 5 District Championships and has won every accolade on offer in the sport domestically, has had to call time on his career due to a recurring knee injury, it was revealed this morning. The news is a major blow to the selectors, who were set to hand Gonzales the captains armband ahead of the tournament. There are however rumours that Dimitri has already agreed to cover the tournament for state television, while other sources claim he will take up a coaching role with the Union.

Kulverint get good group draw!

The group draw for the 15th World Cup, in Lithatrius, took place yesterday. The draw was heavily anticipated by all the teams, and Kulverint got a relatively easy group out of it. When asked, the team's coach, Tommi Junkuarlaski, had this to say:

"For sure, it looks like an easy group, but only if we give 200% in every game! Taeshan can be beaten, but will be tough. The other two teams, I believe, are new to the tournament, so should be an easy catch. I say this again, though, only if we give 200% in every game will we have any chance of victory!"

The Group E table itself is as follows:

Pos.Team:PWDLPFPAPDiffPts.
1.Taeshan
2.Kulverint
3.Pokemonman
4.Khytenna

"Markus, step it up, we need to beat Burchandinger, but you dont need to be in the team. Got that!

"Ye-yes boss."

"And to the rest of you lot, this is a big game we got coming up. None of you are safe in that starting line up. I wanna see 110% in training, and when you come of that pitch, I wanna see you on the floor, not able to move, because you have literally given EVERYTHING in that game. Do I make myself clear!"

"Yes sir"

"Good, now get back to the drills, and Markus, come over here."
Markus and Mikael walk.

"Markus, you've got the hopes and dreams of a nation on your shoulders tomorrow boy. I know your good. But you have to go out there and show the world how good I know you are. Go out there tomorrow, and take no prisoners. This aint football. No fancy panting around here. Go out there, and rip 'em up!"

"OK boss, thanks for the pep talk!"

"When your done, around the circuit again. Burchandinger arent relaxing y'know."

The session ends

"Right lads, great seesion. I wanna see the best game of your lifes tomorrow. The team sheet will be up later in the hotel lobby. See you then"

Mikael meets his friend at the bar

"Hey Mikael, drink?"

"Yeah, whatever it is, make it a large....."

Zenethj World Cup Team
Coach: Dickie Lambert

Background:
Sports mad Zenethj enter their first major international sports event. The world expects little.
However, sports mad Zenethj expects alot. Mystique is our ally. That plus Dr Zubenk and his team who seem to have instilled a "feel no pain, run faster, run longer" mentality.
Expect Zenethj to play an extremely tight game around the forwards. Rolling mauls are considered beautiful works of ART by national broadcaster ZTV and cauilflower ears are national symbols of vitaly.
Kicking, spear tackles, tripping and mauling are expected. Passing and free flowing rugby are not. Most of the nippy wingers have been battered out of rugby in the domestic leagues. In Zenethj rugby is a working class game the toffs avoid for ris of losing teeth.
The front 3 are considered the most eligible batchelors in all of Zenethj

BURCHADINGER TIMES
TEAM GETS READY FOR RUGBY WORLD CUP

For one thing, the Burchadingan National Rugby Team are in high spirits, and they should be. Drawn in a group consisting of Swartaz, Unitopolis and Chocolate Pencils, it should be, on paper, an easy group for Die Adler. But we have been proven wrong many times in the past, and so we will refrain from making anymore predictions. While rugby is widely played in Burchadinger, the BRA has paid little to nearly no attention at all to the national team. However, just like the U-21 Football team participating in the Di Bradini Cup, rugby in Burchadinger has taken a new turn, with a new president, a new coach for the team, and many new talents.

Derek Hackl, aged 42, was a rugby player himself, playing as a fullback. Thorsten Krause, the team's current fullback, grew up watching Hackl playing in the national leagues. "Yeah, I watched him playing," said the 24-year old Krause." "He's really been an idol for me, and here I am, representing my country." Krause will be heavily reliant on Arnold Kreuzer and Lukas Hiedelberg to score points. While many of the national teams in Burchadinger consist of mainly Germanic players, the rugby team has quite a large number of Romanians as well. Vari Sigmund, Petrişor Fercu, Robert Dumitraş, Sergei Mavrodin, Gilles Bechas and captain Mihai Paraschiv are all from the eastern part of Burchadinger. While the majority of the team remains Germanic, the amount of Romanian-Burchadingans will showcase an increase in Eastern Burchadingan activity in sports.

Moving onto the group, the fact that Burchadinger have never met Unitopolis or Chocolate Pencils in any sporting event will mean that surprises are in store. Burchadinger's BRT Grand Prix are racing with Swartaz's Swartaz Racing in the WGPC, but other than that, the nations have no record against each other. And with Swartaz being the first hurdle in Burchadinger's campaign, we take a preview of the match. While both sides can only guess how good each player in the other team is, Hackl has told his players to be on the lookout for Alexander Koan and Deanil Bargenvaligette. "While I do not know who is truly 'good' and who is truly 'bad', most middle eight's and fullbacks can spring surprises, at least from my experience." Hackl said. So don't forget to tune in to NSC to watch the game live. Or, if you have been wasting your time reading this article as you like football, don't forget to catch Burchadinger vs Sargossa live on either TV1 or Sports World.

You make a good point - I owe an explanation. I spilt some coffee onto my laptop, meaning that it died, along with my good installation of NSFS. As a result, I used my back-up Excel scorinator, using a minor adaptation of Zwangzug's World Cup Software here. Unfortunately, this appears to have produced an off-score of 4. I'll run through, changing all 4's to 5's, and from now on, I'm going to improve the results. If anyone wants my precise adaptation of Zwangzug's WCS, just telegram me and I'll send it.

Taeshan 34 - 56 Kulverint

Taeshan
Points: 34
Tries: 4
Conversions: 4
Drop Goals: 1
Penalties: 1

Kulverint
Points: 56
Tries: 7
Conversions: 6
Drop Goals: 1
Penalties: 2

A great start for Kulverint in the 15th Rugby World Cup, hosted by Lithatrius. They won against Taeshan, their main rivals in the group and the only real threat. The game started with a try for Taeshan, scored by their right wing, and converted very well. However, Kulverint hit back with two tries in ten minutes by Christophe Dominica, both converted. A sudden drop goal from Jeroen Berdoas made the score at half time 17-7. What followed after the half will go down into Rugby history. After 1 minute of the second half, Martijn Kouralavska scored an amazing try, but it was not converted. 3 minutes after this, the Taeshanian fly half scored an amazing try. This was converted and then followed up by a drop goal. A high tackle by Ekke Mirolasvi lead to a penalty for Taeshan, which was scored. Kulverint then hit back with two tries, both of which were converted, and both of which were scored by Martijn Kouralavska. A penalty for Kulverint was scored, but then a try for Taeshan. Converted, and followed by another converted try. It looked all over, but then with 5 minutes remaining, Wilhelmus Farransza scored a beautiful converted try. Taeshan were getting desperate, and gave away a penalty, which was again scored by Jeroen Berdoas. Finally, in overtime, Christophe Dominica made a final break and scored. The try was converted, the game was over, and Kulverint have put themselves right where they need to be to win their group and go through to the knockout stages.
