Last night, reigning King's League champions - Firewood City F.C. - completed the dual signing of pacy striker Rene Wilson-Ouaddou, and fleet-footed winger, Remy Bonriou from league rivals Hamtown Athletic for 16m credits.
Club manager Willem Hamel said of the signings "They are both talented players who will add more depth to our squad as we aim to challenge on four fronts this season. Last year, I think if we had a few more faces in the squad, we could have sustained our challenge in the Corradini Cup and the KryOsarian Trophy."
Wilson-Ouaddou's contract is alleged to be worth a staggering 8m credits over four years, making him the most highly paid player in the country. The clinical striker was interviewed on behalf of Osarian Sports News Channel on his move. "Firewood are a big club, it is a massive 'onour to play for them, and alongside a legend like Forrester... and also I am going to be in the same team as my old friend, Benni [Watson] again. I am definitely looking forward to making my debut in The Cauldron, the atmosphere is amazing." When asked about how he felt leaving The War Pigs, Wilson-Ouaddou expressed some sadness at leaving, but alluded to the club's problems off the field, and pointed the finger firmly at the club's board. "I did not ask to leave, but the board accepted the offer and I was not going to say no to such a big chance. I am sorry if the fans feel I betrayed them, but 'amtown will always have a special place in my 'eart. I feel for the fans because they deserve more, and the board is not investing the necessary funding to save the team. I 'ope they are not relegated this year. The fans do not deserve that."
Remy Bonriou's sentiments echoed that of his teammate. "It is a dream come true for me. When I was younger, I dreamed of playing alongside Jermain Lewis and Reuben Forrester. They were a massive inspiration for me growing up, and I am hoping I can break into the first team quickly."
It is expected that Wilson-Ouaddou will feature in the Queen's Shield match this coming weekend, where Firewood will face their arch-rivals, Greeningham City F.C. in the season opener, after The Giants won the OFA Cup. The match will take place at the newly built Mount Crown Stadium, near the capital city, Burningham. The King's League season will then kick-off the weekend after.
