Jeckland vs. Gloriax, Session by Session

Postby Jeckland » Sat Mar 15, 2014 11:45 am

Match Report: Gloriax in Jeckland
Jeckland bat first
Jeckland 414 (142.2 overs), 230 (63.0 overs)
Gloriax 364 (138.4 overs), 245/3 (64.4 overs)
Drawn

Day 1, Session 1

And Jeckland start well. Jones falls cheaply, but James and Dawkins bput together a 90 run partnership before lunch to put the hosts on 97/1

Day 1, Session 2
Dawkins grinds his way to 95 not out, with James falling for 61 and Borininho stumped just before tea. Sampkins looks shaky, but survives to make the score 186/3

Day 1, Session 3
Dawkins falls in the last over for a monumental 140. Sampkins falls cheaply, but Ayers and Parsons both bat well to close out a successful day for Jeckland on 272/5

Day 2, Session 1
Ayers and Parsons both fall halfway through the session, but some controlled hitting from Tirek combined with Holmes's dogged defence leave Jeckland on 351/7

Day 2, Session 2
Tirek hits some more but Gloriax clean up and bat the five overs to tea safely, going in on 10/0 having bowled Jeckland out for 414

Day 2, Session 3
Gloriax looked safe, but two late wickets from Tirek cap off a fairly even day as Gloriax go in on 89/2

Day 3, Session 1
Gloriax bat well, picking up runs without losing a wicket and as such are 185/2

Day 3, Session 2
Only one wicket down, to the bowling of Ryan. Can anyone stop the Gloriax batsmen, as they go in on 274/3

Day 3, Session 3
Holmes can! His magical five wicket haul spell tears the heart out of the middle order, and Chambers takes the final two wickets to seize control. Gloriax 264 all out, Jeckland lead by 50.

Day 4, Session 1
Rained off. Boo hoo!

Day 4, Session 2
Rain again!

Day 4, Session 3
Those diehard fans that stuck around through the rain were rewarded by seeing 123 runs and 4 wickets, as both teams fought for supremacy. Jeckland 123/4

Day 5, Session 1
Jeckland started well, but then the middle order collapsed like it was having a heart attack. Bowled out for 208, would Gloriax be able to get the 281 runs in just 2 sessions? Or would Jeckland claim the wickets for their first test win?

Day 5, Session 2
Gloriax go thundering off! A Jeckland win is surely out of the equation, but have Gloriax got the fight to keep the onslaught going? They go in at 137/0

Day 5, Session 3
They looked dangerous, but Ryan removed three of them in quick sucession and the run rate plummeted. You wonder what the outcome would have been had it not been for the rain.

I didn't use Gloriax's names as there was little info given, so I wanted Gloriax to be able to mould the players to his own spec.

Wray tour to go ahead, but practice match cut in protest
Schimpol— The ongoing cricket tour of Wray in Liventia will continue as planned despite the two national boards being at loggerheads over wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon du Pont, it has been announced.

The Cricketing Board of Authority said the remaining two Tests in the four-match series, which Liventia lead 1–0, will be unaffected by the ongoing row, although Wray's tour match against Liventia Tigers has taken a hit.

The CBA confirmed that the four-day first-class tour match against Liventia's A side had been cancelled and replaced with a two-day non-first-class friendly in protest at what it described as "the willingness of the Wray Cricket Board to bypass its own rules just to prevent a player from playing for his country of birth".

In its statement, the CBA added that "future bilateral tours between Wray and Liventia are unlikely to be scheduled while the situation remains unresolved", and suggested that it would withhold any revenues from the ongoing series which would otherwise be paid to the WCB.

The player at the centre of the storm, 18-year-old Dover-born du Pont, has lived in Wray since he was two years old, but has not publicly commented on whether he has decided on playing for either side.

If he elects to retain Liventian eligibility, he would appear to be fourth in the national pecking order for wicketkeeper-batsmen, after current Test captain Max Finney, Liventia's regular Twenty20 keeper Garland Goudreau, and Mike Sarrin, who keeps wicket for the Tigers.

The second Test in the ongoing series was drawn after a mammoth three-day second innings batting effort by Liventia to save the match.

Bowled out for 100 inside the first session, Liventia faced a first-innings deficit of 302 by the time they dismissed Wray on day two, but James Quinn (155) made his first international century and Arthur Cunningham made Liventia's joint-best individual Test score of 254 (Finney made 254 last season in a high-scoring draw against Eura) as the hosts batted for 269 overs and one ball to grind Wray out of the match.

After the two-day tour match, the series will move to far more batsmen-friendly surfaces at the NCE Oval and Park Central.

Match report as posted on the GruenCric website.
Juffwump spins Gruenberg to 2-0 despite Johnson heroics

Sprantothan Juffwump recovered from an indifferent showing in the First Test against Darmen to record the best ever figures in Test cricket for a Gruenberger spinner as Gruenberg beat Darmen by three wickets at the Moroschwegen Arena of Death, scoring the winning runs after a first innings cameo of 33 from 26 to claim the match award. His 10-124 included hauls of 5-54 and 5-70, also making him the first Gruenberger to record three consecutive five wicket hauls, and did much to assure him of the lead spinner role in Tests, having been questioned after a poor initial showing in Flurthwel.

In truth, Juffwump's figures slightly flattered him, and it was the seam bowlers who did much of the early damage after Zambuimmi Hengtridan won the toss and elected to bowl. Dervin Yeg found extravagant swing, beating the bats of the Darmeni top order on a number of occasions; he and iiPriyuff Uglaxx accounted for the top three, before Juffwump got to work on the middle order. Darmen captain Matthew Johnson counter-attacked with a bold 77 from 92, but could only drag his team to a meagre 236, Juffwump striking three times in one over to whizz through the tail.

Pitkin Deisler continued his astounding form, taking over as opener with Yeepers Naroadnig moving down to 3; he thrashed a 43 ball half-century, his third 50+ score in successive innings, to lead Gruenberg to 105-2 by close, falling just before stumps edging spinner Cory Hanegan for 64. The second day saw bowling friendly conditions continue, however, and Johnson starred, this time with the bowl, his 6-64 the best figures by a visiting bowler at Moroschwegen. The centrepiece of Gruenberg's 306 was an attacking 90 off 103 by Benny Enchante, using his feet to dominate the Darmeni spinners but less comfortable against the pace of Johnson and Benaiah West. After adding 109 with Hengtridan, he saw the lower middle order collapse, and was left short of a century slicing to cover.

Yeg and Uglaxx once again made good use of the new ball in Darmen's second innings, reducing them to 0-2, then 35-5. Recovery came through Fionntan Bradley's 67 in concert with another half-century for the indefatigable Johnson, whose 88 spanned 249 balls and almost the entire third day as he blunted Gruenberg's attack. Juffwump and Naroadnig found bounce married with turn to trouble the lower order, and picked up steady wickets, but on a bowling-friendly surface, Darmen's lead grew steadily to set Gruenberg a challenging 190, Johnson caught at bat pad 12 short of his century.

Gruenberg did not start from a position of strength, 21-2 by the close of play with Deisler falling for a duck and Naroadnig flashing to gully. Their worries deepend when Enchante was worked out by Johnson, Plopples Hrrrg run out, and middle order failures took them to 113-6. But old heads Hengtridan and Spintmhitz Turvuaednes showed the value of calm, while Hengtridan punctuated steady defence with numerous attractive shots. Together they ran down the total required, and although Turvuaednes gloved behind with single figures required, Hengtridan was on hand to assure victory, turning over the strike on 91 to allow Juffwump to hit the winning runs.

The teams now head to The Raqqanderjiffuleb Stadium, where Juffwump's spin will undoubtedly be an important factor again. Hrrrg is the batsman most under pressure for runs, having failed to past 50 in four innings, while the middle order has yet to fire; Azzawozzawoowizzbitz Telliflikkiflarknon has been unimpressive since his first day spell at Flurthwel. Nonetheless, no changes to the team are expected.

WCB agree to 'postpone' du Pont decision, but demand revenue lift

Following noises from the CBA to the tune of no more series and no more money, the WCB have agreed to postpone a decision about teenager Brendon du Pont, until after the conclusion of the Liventia Test Series. Du Pont was scheduled to join the Central Districts squad to play South-Western Districts on Tuesday. du Pont was pulled from the squad at the last minute (although he wasn't going to be in the playing XI) following a statement from the CBA that the future of any Wray-Liventia tours would be in jeopardy as long as the situation remained unsolved.

The CBA also said that it would withhold over P500,000 worth of tour fees from the WCB as a 'warning' to the board over the development, and Finances Director of the WCB Mark Lister has demanded that the CBA release the fees for Wray, as they are "key to future tours and the development of international cricket in Wray".

The CBA also shortened the length of a tour-game scheduled for the week in between the Second and Third tests from a four-day contests to just a two-day run out between a Wray XI and the Liventian Tigers (Liventia's 'A' team), much to the chagrin of a number of hopeful Wray squad members who were looking to get a run-out and possibly earn a place in the test team.

The two cricketing teams played out a draw at the Bastion in Dover, despite Wray dispatching Liventia for 100 all out within the first session and then building a 300-run lead through Jason Keillher & Glenn Mitchell, before Liventia responded with a mammoth 724/6d, with Arthur Cunningham leading the way with 254.

Wray line-up for the Third test remains the same as the Second Test.

Johnson has six wicket haul in first innings, Opening batsmen continue to disapoint
"I feel like I'm doing a lot all by myself, it shouldn't be that way" - Johnson

Darmeni Captain Matthew Johnson took six wickets in the first innings of Darmen's second test in Gruenberg, helping to hold Gruenberg to just 306 runs following Darmen's 236 runs in their first innings. Corey Hanegan also had a good first innings, taking three wickets of his own.

The great bowling performance in the first innings came after some encouraging batting in the first innings that eventually fell flat. The opening pair of Urs Méndez and Austyn Kimberley combined for only 27 runs. However, that currently stands as the highest first wicket partnership so far this season, surpassing the previous mark of just a single run set by Gil Mandelbaum and Méndez. The middle-order batsman of Hannas van Pey and Fionntan Bradley added sub-average performances, and by the time Captain Matthew Johnson walked to the center to take his turn at bat, Darmen was only 95-5. Johnson would have the longest spell out in the middle for Darmen during the first innings, taking 77 off of 92.

In Darmen's second innings, hopes were high that the first wicket partnership would score a good amount to send Darmen on their way to a quality second innings total, but when Kimberley left the pitch after just 1.2 overs, most Darmeni fans were inclined to believe that Darmen would be in for another tough innings. Robbe Hébert and Matthew Johnson would save the innings from being a complete disaster, scoring 67 and 88 runs respectively, and raising Darmen's second inning total to 259.

Gruenberg needed just 190 runs to win, and Darmeni hopes were slim. A draw looked out of the question, and Darmen would need to rely on Matthew Johnson to provide another good innings of bowling to secure an unlikely win. In fact, it was fellow pace bowler, Benaiah West, who would step up the plate, taking Pitkin Deisler out after 1.2 overs and no runs. West would also claim Spintmhitz Turvuaednes as his victim, but by then it was too late, and Gruenberg achieved 190 runs in only 62 and a half overs.

It is reported that Gil Mandelbaum will return to the lineup in place of Austyn Kimberley, who scored a combined five runs in two innings. Mandelbaum will bat first, with Méndez dropping to second, and the rest of the lineup remaining the same. Johnson is clearly upset with his batsmen, and a good showing from Mandelbaum after his dismal showing in the first test could restore Johnson's confidence. In the post match interviews, one of the most talked about quotes of Johnson, was the following: "I feel like I'm doing a lot all by myself, (and) it shouldn't be that way." How the rest of the team reacts to this statement remains to be seen.

Blainey makes titanic career-first double ton, but Chelta fails to take victory

Chelta have won their three-Test series against The Nihilistic View in rather subdued style as the latter once again secured a valiant draw, denying Chelta a second Test victory.

This despite a titanic innings, both by the team as a whole and by one particular individual, in Chelta’s first innings.

Captain Percy Waight won the toss, for the third time, and chose to bat, for the third time, on what seemed a typical bat-friendly King’s Cricket Ground wicket.

His intuition was right, as the opening partnership between Gordon Walters and Adam Blainey carried on for 165 runs before “Danger Man” Walters finally edged a well-pitched off break of Stringer’s into the keeper’s gloves.

Before then Walters had looked supremely in his element, scoring almost twice as fast as his partner and punching all he was offered to the boundary with contemptuous ease.

But yet, it would be his more staid and restrained partner who would emerge King of King’s (so to speak).

Blainey carried on with his new partner, young Jamie Macnair, who shared Blainey’s preference for conservative, attritional batting.

Together they put on a partnership of 241 in a 69-over long passage of play that one slightly tipsy spectator described as “some of the most boring Test cricket I’ve ever watched”.

Boring, but effective; the Blainey-Macnair partnership took Chelta from ten overs into the afternoon session on the first day until shortly before lunch on the second day when Jamie Macnair’s scalp was claimed by a weary and disillusioned Nick Plank.

With Chelta’s total standing at 2/406 at that point, though, the Cheltish had driven the game firmly in their favour.

Adam Blainey was not done, though; on the fall of the second wicket his innings stood at 171*, and a career-first double hundred was undoubtedly in his sight.

He may have thought his skipper, Percy Waight, the battle-hardened veteran, would accompany him to his great feat, but it was not to be: Waight fell on only 7 when he edged Plank behind, flailing uncharacteristically wildly at a wide ball.

It was to be the other of the youngsters in the team, Ernie Sullivan, who would see Blainey to his double.

He brought it up not long after lunch with a smart leg glance to the square-leg boundary, and was congratulated by his partner Sullivan and the TNV players around him.

Blainey and Sullivan put on 159 together, bringing Chelta’s total to 4/588 by the time Blainey finally fell on 260 after lead-edging Stringer, trying (and failing) to hit him into the stratosphere.

Ernie Sullivan hung on with Rupert Madison and Don Goss for wickets five and six, bringing up his own cheeky hundred shortly before Percy Waight declared upon Goss’s dismissal.

Asked about his impressive feat at a press conference after the close of Day Two, Blainey said, “Well, I was going to make it a 300 but I thought it would look too pretentious, so I decided against it.”

Amazingly humble fellow, Adam Blainey, as always.

Of course, despite Blainey’s heroics, Chelta once again fell short of claiming an outright victory in the Test.

After bowling The Nihilistic View out for 288 in their first innings, and enforcing the follow-on with a deficit of 336, Chelta failed to take all ten wickets needed for victory in a little over four sessions’ play.

Rain intervened late on the fourth day to wash out most of the evening session, although even with a full day’s play on the fifth day, the Chelta bowlers proved unequal to the challenge.

Nevertheless, Chelta emerges from the series with TNV with a 1-0 series win; 2-0, somehow, seemed too great a feat despite a titanic batting performance.

CBA: WCB discussions "positive"
Orean— Top Liventia cricket officials have described high-level discussions with the Wray Cricket Board as "constructive and positive".

Sources close to the CBA Executive Committee say the talks are aimed at "finding common ground" on a number of issues plaguing relations between the two boards.

Chief among them is the future of 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon du Pont, who is eligible to play for either Wray or Liventia, the country of his birth.

The WCB had indicated it would fast-track du Pont's eligibility to play first-class domestic cricket in Wray, which would have rendered him ineligible for Liventia, although it has since backed away from its stance.

For its part, the CBA — considered to be the most powerful national board in GCF cricket — had threatened to withdraw co-operation with the WCB, including the withholding of tour revenues, if the WCB proceeded with its plans.

The sources claim that although no formal agreement had yet been reached, tensions were understood to be cooling after it was agreed that the WCB would receive its share of the revenues from Wray's ongoing tour of Liventia.

However, questions remain unanswered regarding du Pont's future. The teenager has been offered a contract by Wray's Central Districts and Liventia's Talbott Downs, and accepting either contract to play cricket as a domestic player in either country would effectively rule du Pont out of representing the other country internationally.

With the CBA's unhappiness understood to stem from the WCB's willingness to fast-track du Pont's eligibility, it may yet be the case that the youngster chooses to stay in Wray, the country he grew up in, and play second-tier club cricket until he gains eligibility through time served.

While such a scenario would still eliminate Liventia from the youngster's international future, and upset the CBA, it is unlikely to cause further rifts between the boards.

The ongoing Test series is tied at 1–1 after Wray defeated Liventia by five wickets at the NCE Oval. The series now heads to its fourth and final Test at the Park Central Oval, with a high-scoring draw expected.

Liventia squad to play Wray, Fourth Test: JCA Quinn, MA Finney*†, AJ Cunningham, DA Hennessey, OH Kerr, FJW Stewart, STS Watting, DM Lewis, MC Geach, DM Quinn, JPK Adams (bowling: Geach/Adams new ball, Kerr first change, Quinn/Lewis spin, Watting part-time seam)

The Gruenberger Chronicle
Part of the Polar Picayune Media Group

A jaw-dropping Benny Enchante special was not enough to atone for a first innings failure that doomed Gruenberg to only their second ever home defeat in Tests. Gruenberg have long enjoyed an exceptionally strong home record in Tests, winning 8 of the previous 11 Tests at home, with their only defeat coming during GCF Season 1 to eventual champions Genyria, and had climbed to a 2-0 lead over Darmen on their return to cricket. But, under the scorching desert sun of Sal-Siabi, their brains fried at The Raqqanderjiffuleb Stadium, and they capitulated in an 8 run defeat that ultimately managed to flatter them: in truth, Darmen were in the ascendancy for virtually the entire Test and finished deserved winners.

Gruenberg only came so close thanks to Enchante's first century since returning to Test cricket, a typically astonishing lone hand that recalled the very best of his debut effort against Loonaterian. His fourth double-century in Test cricket pushed his average back above 60 and confirmed him as one of the leading batsmen in world cricket after starring hands in the World Twenty20 Championship, Liventian Quadrangular Series and Gruenberger Premier League. But it was enough to deliver victory as the batting around him struggled in sweltering, oppressively hot conditions and a rapidly crumbling pitch. Sprantothan Juffwump contribued just 10 to a partnership of 112, and no other batsman passed 46.

Enchante reached his double century at a run a ball, hitting 38 fours and 2 sixes to all seven-and-a-half corners of the madness inspiring Raqqanderjiffuleb, but was visibly tiring when Matthew Johnson, the Darmeni captain, returned for an inspirational spell of bowling to take his team to victory. After carrying his team with the bat in previous Tests Johnson failed twice in Sal-Siabi, but finally found support from his top order, while he himself starred with the ball, match figures of 9-144 the best by a visiting bowler. His outswinger caught Juffwump's edge, a bouncer accounted for Dervin Yeg, and finally an exhausted Enchante missed an indipping full ball, trapped straight in front. Gruenberg finished 8 runs short, but the gulf between the teams was far bigger.

Much of the damage was done on the first day by Gil Mandelbaum, Urs Méndez and Hannas van Pey. Perhaps stung by criticism in Darmeni media of the top order's performance, with the third top three combination in as many matches tried out, they played with application, resolve - and some crushingly dead bats. Méndez batted through the entire first day for just 75 runs; Darmen reached close at just 222 from a full 90 overs, but had lost only the 1 wicket, Mandelbaum out to the first of Sprantothan Juffwump's record 13 wickets - the biggest haul by a Gruenberger in Tests, and including his fourth and fifth successive five wicket hauls - after a potentially career-saving half-century.

Méndez and van Pey continued the next day, Méndez watchful defence, van Pey unfurling more attacking shots; they took Darmen up to 268-1, by which time both had reached centuries. From there, Darmen collapsed to Juffwump's increasingly impressive off-spin and a good spell of reverse swing from Dervin Yeg, whose 4-62 was his best return for a long time. Azzawozzawoowizzbitz Telliflikkiflarknon was disappointing, however, and faces questions over his place as his batting fails to balance out his inconsistent bowling. Darmen finished on 323, but had sapped the Gruenberger bowlers for over 138 overs in the field.

In response, Pitkin Deisler began in now typical fashion, thumping three consecutive boundaries off Benaiah West, but then ran out Plopples Hrrrg, in the middle of a fight for form and runs. Deisler followed next ball to Johnson, and wickets continued to fall steadily. Johnson's 4-37 led his team, but he was well supported by West and Ofydd Descoteaux. Zambuimmi Hengtridan's excellent form continued with his third 90+ score in as many Tests, though he could not convert to a hundred, and his wicket left Gruenberg 180-8, well in arrears. That they got up to as many as 262 was thanks to a crashing half-century from number 9 by Juffwump, his first significant score in Tests for Gruenberg.

61 was still a large deficit to concede, however, and that deficit began to grow as Darmen notched another big opening partnership in response. This time it was Mandelbaum who went on, marking the first time a team had scored three hundreds against Gruenberg in Tests; his 102 added to his first innings half-century helped his team set Gruenberg a challenging 343 on a very difficult wicket. He received support from all the top order; for the bowlers, Juffwump's 7-85 was yet another record for the player cementing himself as Gruenberg's most valuable, but another dreadful showing from Telliflikkiflarknon meant the attack was virtually a bowler short. In response, Deisler flashed, Hrrrg groped, and Naroadnig poked. Then, there was Enchante - but even his daring was not enough.

Gruenberg are likely to play the same side for the final Test, which they need only draw to win the series, but the tour of Liventia may see changes. Plopples Hrrrg, Nernoiks Likkilai and Azzawozzawoowizzbitz Telliflikkiflarkanon are the most in danger, but there is not an obvious replacement for any of them, and in each case, Liventian conditions may win a reprieve anyway, with a need for an orthodox opening batsman and a third seamer.

Match Facts
Wray tour of Liventia, 4th Test, Park Central Oval, Orean
Start Time: 1100 RET (Rushmori Eastern Time)

Big Picture

A see-saw series saw Wray get annihilated in the first test, before coming half-way to victory in the second before Arthur Cunningham and James Quinn took the hosts to a GCF record 724/6d, but the Green Caps pressed home their advantage by taking the third test by five wickets to level the series with one to go.

Wray have acquitted themselves very well after the humiliation at Folenisa. The top order, under serious scrutiny, has done very well, backed up by a firing middle order. Jason Keillher has found his niche in the side, a hard-hitting batsmen capable of turning games with one innings, as well as a capable swing-bowler. Liventia have been good for large patches, but have let it slip occasionally, and it cost them dearly in the 3rd Test, being bundled out for 216 when they had a chance to shut Wray out of the game.

Form Guide
(Test matches, most recent first)

In the Spotlight

Slightly oddly, but for the first time in a few years Julian Stacey has experienced a bad patch of form. In five innings this series, he's accumulated just 43 runs, at an average of 10.75. He's been the victim of Liventia's seam attack, namely Matt Geach, who has dismissed Stacey 3. It seems that he has had trouble reading the movement off the pitch and has played and missed at numerous deliveries. He has one chance left to redeem himself otherwise this will go down as a distinct underperformance.

Another keeper-batsman is in the spotlight for Liventia, with Max Finney having an odd series with the bat as well as as captain. He has produced some terrific innings, such as the 81 to build Liventia's monster 724/6d innings & his 57 in the First Test. But he has also produced some baffling poor innings as well. He has failed to score twice, and passed fifty two other times, averaging a rather strange 30.4, but that number doesn't tell the whole story. His captaincy has also been questionable, especially in situations which require big decisions at big stages of the game; it helps that his team rarely are in a state of dire emergency.

Team News

Wray: Selectors have confirmed that Adam Corrie is fit for selection, but Blake Matthews retains his place in the side. Rumours of Ashton Macallister being ruled out due to an ankle injury he sustained during the third test are untrue and he will start at number 5.

Batsmen finally show up, Johnson struggles batting, shines bowling
Darmen take first victory by eight runs

Things looked good for Darmen from the very beginning, as the first wicket partnership of Gil Mandelbaum and Urs Méndez combined for 84 runs in 36.2 overs, Mandelbaum earning his first Test half century with 52. Méndez and Hannas van Pey combined for 184 runs, as both men surpassed the century mark. From there, it was all downhill, but the damage had already been done. Darmen would finish its first innings with a score of 323 all out after 138.3 overs.

Captain Matthew Johnson led the way for Darmen's Bowling attack in Gruenberg's first innings, removing the two opening batsmen in just 16 balls. Johnson would also show Yeepers Naroadnig and Benny Enchante the door, and after forty overs, Gruenberg was 139-5. Zambuimmi Hengtridan and Sprantothan Juffwump would both surpass the fifty mark, saving Gruenberg from utter decimation in the first innings. Gruenberg would end their innings with 262 runs in 77.1 overs. Overall, Johnson would claim 4 wickets and allow just 37 runs in 19 overs of bowling.

Darmen had a lead of 61 runs heading into the second innings, and were looking to expand their chances of winning. Gil Mandelbaum would lead the way early, and would eventually score 102, as he and Méndez would combine for 111 before the first wicket fell. From there, the remaining batsmen added a steady stream of runs, but failed to capitalize on the possibility of putting Gruenberg away for good. Darmen ending with 282 all out after 91.3 overs, leaving Gruenberg to chase 343 for a victory.

Gruenberg would fail to get there, reaching only 335 before Johnson would send Enchante packing after a superb double century by the Gruenberger. Johnson would take five wickets total in the second innings and only Enchante caused any real problems, remaining in the middle of the pitch for 65.2 overs, as Johnson and West took care of the rest. Cory Hanegan, Nicolaus Mac Pharlain and Ofydd Descoteaux also took wickets, one each, as part of a splendid defensive innings.

Darmen's line up will remain unchanged for a change, as Johnson is quite pleased with the team all around. If Darmen can win the final match against Gruenberg in the Rajjenkali Mire of Goatliness, Darmen could draw the series at 2-2, giving Darmen a nice boost in the GCF rankings.

Uglaxx crushes Darmen to tie up series

After battling bravely throughout the tour, Darmen collapsed twice in the Fourth Test at the Rajjenkali Mire of Goatliness, failing to adjust to the bounce of the red clay surface and being routed by fluuguufloid* iiPriyuff Uglaxx to set up a decisive innings victory for the hosts, claiming the series 3-1. Uglaxx, extracting steepling pace and prodigious seam movement, made up for a quiet series and indifferent limited overs form with a reminder that the tall Gelzien is undoubtedly the finest Test bowler Gruenberg has produced to date. Darmen, sent in to bat, unusually for Gruenberger conditions, were reduced to 80-5 before Urs Méndez and Matthew Johnson staged a 163 run recovery for the sixth wicket, both reaching centuries, before Yeepers Naroadnig picked up a career best 3-53 to wrap things up.

In response, Gruenberg played a curiously paced innings, rattling to a rapid start thanks to Pitkin Deisler's slashing blade, then crawling along steadily as even Benny Enchante failed to find his timing, before finishing at a canter as Azzawozzawoowizzbitz Telliflikkiflarknon crashed a 43-ball 72 in pursuit of quick runs. Zambuimmi Hengtridan fell immediately after tea - one of seven Gruenberger batsmen to pass fifty, and taking him past 500 for the series - and promptly declared, leading to a manic final session. Extended to make up for time lost to bad light on the first two days, it saw Uglaxx tear through the Darmeni top order. Matthew Johnson's lone hand, an unbeaten half-century, symbolised the way he has led his team on the tour, but it was not enough to avert a huge innings and 100 run defeat when Telliflikkiflarknon ripped out the last two wickets in two balls.

Juffwump misses out as expanded squad named for Liventian tour

As expected, the GCB have added to the 14 players who formed the squad for Gruenberg's first home series for the coming tour of Liventia; the big surprise came in the exclusion of Surro Juffwump, who has failed to even make the expanded squad as a sign of how far his stock has fallen. Once assumed to be ready to inherit the Test wicket keeper berth, his poor domestic first class form coincided with abject showings with the bat in Liventia during the ODI Quadrangular Series and has now meant he will have to earn his way back in through weight of runs and improvements in his keeping.

Kahunk Uvaevaluvae travels as the reserve wicket-keeper but is not expected to challenge Spintmhitz Turvuaednes for his place. Kakuwat Gezzalqin is the reserve batsmen, while Spanglepants Croffnuppet replaces Bizzal Ningveil in the squad as reserve spinner. An extra pace bowler in Cygoqetty Rampleponxy has been added along with o'Po'o'To'o'So Bant to give Hengtridan options in the more seam-friendly Liventian conditions. Despite the bolstering of the squad, no changes to the starting XI are expected initially.

Squad: ZGK Hengtridan (c), ST Juffwump (vc), PTS Bant, SCCD Croffnuppet, PA Deisler, BL Enchante, K Gezzalqin, PEE Hrrrg, NWWUM Likkilai, YTQQZK Naroadnig, CG Rampleponxy, ALL Telliflikkiflarknon, SBP Turvuaednes, PPPPPP Uglaxx, KZY Uvaevaluvae, DB Yeg

    * A "destroying angel" in Gruenberger religious mythology. Except instead of an angel, it's a really big goat.

Inkvizitor Nhmađa

Nhmadia's Premiere News Discussion

What happened to Test Kriqit?
    by Zholtan Qek

Should you have been perusing the usual news outlets in search of Kriqit results, chances are that like myself, you wouldn't have found any mention of the recent test-match series in the Licentian Isles. For our glorious country's first competitive foray into this new form of what has quickly become somewhat of a national sport, surely it's ludicrous to think that our nation is being deliberately ignorant of this event?

Or is it?

Having altered the search terms from 'The Licentian Isles Test Series' to merely 'Kriqit + Scum' (Note to self: Always take into account the stubborn xenophobia of our Country's media distributors), I found a small piece hidden away in the 'Esportiva' section of the Government's 'Puram Veritatem' between a short discourse on why Paradystopia would make a good Esportivan representative in the World Assembly by a political science professor of spurious credentials and a scathing attack on German American culture by some anonymous author, obviously a lower-ranked official in the propaganda department.

Anyway, the article in question, if I can indeed call it such as it consisted of a paltry five lines of text, was sadly lacking in much detail. Here is the aforementioned piece.

In a new unlimited overs form of Kriqit, The Glorious Commune played their first competitive match today. Great things were expected of the team going into this match following their humiliating destruction of Paradystopia.1 Their opponents were the Apox-loving2 islander scum and our team had the distinct displeasure of playing the match in their filthy country. The scum managed to be victorious on this occasion by the narrowest of margins.3 We have been assured that this deplorable occurrence will not be replicated in the second match of the series.
1. Despite the match being played against the miniscule island of Kinshish, being a part of Paradystopia, this is apparently reason enough to claim we defeat Paradystopia.
2. Since the conflicts in Esportiva, The Licentians are frequently referred to as 'Apox-loving scum' after their pledge of support for the Apoxians during a border stand-off between The Glorious Commune and Apox.
3. Having finally discovered an unbiased source for the results, I can safely say that it was by more than a narrow margin that our team lost.

Sometimes I think if I wasn't so used to this kind of thing happening, I'd be outraged. As a proud Nhmađi, I grew up watching Kriqit and have for a good many years been transfixed on the XX/20 even if most of the time I'm cursing the Nhmadia Distrikt team and the Nhmađi players who defected to the richer squads in Mogd-Syrdusha or Xehmlyoradnixia but I digress.

I shall endeavor to piece together the various bits of information I find to provide a true report of these matches. With the heavily blocked internet connection the government deems necessary to 'combat terrorism', this is no easy task. This time, all I could discover was just a basic breakdown of the scores stated in passing in a Liventian source (All news sources of other Esportivan nations are blocked or drastically censored)
The Licentian Isles 392 (83.3 overs), 231/9d (61.4 overs)
The Glorious Commune 268 (91.1 overs), 152 (54.2 overs)
The Glorious Commune lose by 203 runs
From what I can gather, The Licentians maintained control of the match from beginning to end. R. (Rab?) Anderson made a century in the first innings and C. (Calvin?) Watt received Man of the Match for a consistently strong bowling attack. There were also some mentions of Nhikola Dodo and a problem with his arm which restricted the Communadi bowling attack. When I can either disprove or confirm this, I'll be sure to let you know.

Until then, I can only apologise for what must seem a particularly lacklustre report of the first match in the Licentian Isles and hope to find a more detailed source ahead of the next game.
Line-up for Second Match.

Sterne bemoans lack of 'massive scores'

After a series-deciding loss to Liventia in the 4th Test in which Wray scored 375 and 327, but succumbed by 9 wickets to the hosts and thus lost the 4-test series 2-1, captain Simon Sterne has urged his batsmen to turn the 300s into massive totals which put the opposition under serious pressure just to save the game.

In a post-game press conference in front of the world's media, captain Sterne, who criticised his own batting in the series, said that 'when you get 500 [or] 600 in a first innings, you really put a team on the back foot'

He went on to say that Wray 'didn't get those scores, and when you come to play against the world's best side, you're gonna get unstuck'. Liventia registered what Sterne described as 'massive' scores, one of which, the 724/6d at The Bastion, saved a game for the hosts, and the other, the 551/8d at the PCE in Orean, which took the series for Liventia.

Sterne went on to add 'obviously, everyone has to pick it up a little bit in regards to getting big scorers. Players like me and Stace [Julian Stacey] didn't contribute nearly as much as we would have liked to, and the guys who did get runs, Ed, Mitch [Glenn Mitchell] & Train [Jason Keillher] didn't convert their 50s into big centuries.

The Wray national team travel home from Liventia and immediately being preparations for the three test series against now World Number 2 nation Chelta, who've come off a 1-0 series victory against the Nihilistic View, whom Wray will play at the end of the season.

The WCB have announced the 12-man squad for the 1st Test Match at the Cartersburg Oval, and it is the following: EM McCaughey, JWO Colt, SLM Sterne*, GPRJ Mitchell, AMA Macallister, JMA Keillher, JFA Stacey (wk), JS Storm, BRM Matthews, C Bennett, SG Aguando, MJP Perry.

It is likely that Wray will retain the same XI from the last Test in Liventia, with all-rounder Jonathan Perry still waiting on his debut.

Blow for Liventia as Cunningham ruled out of Gruenberg series
City Centre— Batsman Arthur Cunningham will miss Liventia's forthcoming Test series against Gruenberg after failing to recover in time from a fractured wrist.

Cunningham sustained the injury in the fourth and final Test against Wray after being struck by a fierce Jackson Storm bouncer when on 111 in the first innings.

He retired hurt and did not take the field at all during the match, which Liventia won by nine wickets – Ollie Kerr was sent in ahead of Dylan Hennessey at number three in the second innings.

The injury comes at an inopportune time for both batsman and country: Cunningham had just regained some serious form after being dropped from the limited-overs side, while his 495 runs at 99 (including a record-equalling 254) was the most of any batsman in the Wray series.

Dylan Hennessey, who has continued his free-scoring ways from the World Twenty20 and InfoHub Quadrangular ODI Series with 384 runs at 64 against Wray batting at four, is his most likely replacement at three.

Duncan Lewis, the leg-spinning all-rounder who has batted at eight in this series, is likely to move up to four, the batting position from where he scored the only first-class triple ton on record by a Liventian.

Off-spinner Daniel Quinn, who took two five-wicket hauls against Wray and led the bowlers with 23 wickets, will play a big role against Gruenberg despite his struggles against them in the ODIs.

Seamer Jonathan Adams was left searching for form against Wray as his 11 wickets came at a cost of nearly 33 runs apiece, although he is slowly working his way back to full fitness following an injury which saw him miss almost all of the domestic first-class season.

Bryan Sinclair, who was mauled by the Liventia Tigers batting in a warm-up match before the Wray series, is likely to be drafted into the side as an extra seam option while Adams continues to struggle and all-rounder Kerr continues to be expensive. That he can wield a bat too is only a plus.

Liventia side to play Gruenberg, first Test at Island Arena, Schimpol:
JCA Quinn, MA Finney*†, DA Hennessey, DM Lewis, OH Kerr, FJW Stewart, MJ Westley, BC Sinclair, MC Geach, DM Quinn, JPK Adams

Apox Take Series Win With Close Draw to Finish

With Apox having one the first two Tests in the season, there was a couple of team changes. Miles Scott is out for the final game of the tour with niggling hamstring, and therefore Lucia Swizzard was handed her Test debut with the national team. And she was thrown right in at the deep end, with The Licentian Isles opting to bat first. And it wasn't a poor debut, with her figures of 3-31 not being bad. Aram Dhawa did quite well as well, 3-36 being good figures. Apox bowled well to restrict The Licentian Isles to 195 in their first innings.

Next followed a fantastic exhibition of Apoxian batting, with the opening partnership of Sam Gugh and James Hughes finally performing well, with Gugh eventually going for 34, with Hughes in a good position to score runs. The second wicket partnership was a big one, with Hughes reaching his hundred and Pat Brigham making an impressive 58, before she was bowled by Watt, the ball clipping her off stump off an in-swinger. Walters and Hughes pressed on, eager to make a big score, before Hughes was out on an international best of 141, an excellent score. The third wicket partnership was another big one, Bashar al Menzes making a solid 50, and Walters getting his hundred, before Scott Gilbert made the bold call to declare at that point, with the Test wearing on, Apox trying to press home an advantage.

With a hefty 200 run advantage going into the Licentian Isles second innings, you could have been forgiven for thinking that Apox would have been able to steamroller the Islanders again to claim a good series whitewash. However, it wasn't to be, with the Licentian Isles digging in, with the top order putting on a good batting display, reaching 205 for 2, with Rab Hughes scoring 115 before he was out, the toiling of Sam Vernon and Lucia Swizzard being to no avail really, with Gilbert and Swizzard having one wicket apiece. However, with rainclouds present overhead, Aram Dhawa and Bashar al Menzes were brought into the fold, and suddenly a game of attritional cricket begun to develop, with the Licentians scoring relatively slowly.

However, after a good period of strong resistance, a large portion of the fourth day was rained off, and this broke up the Licentian's resolve, with Bashar al Menzes ripping through the lower order, in doing so gaining his first international five-for. With a total of 163 required, and more than an entire day left, it seemed quite likely that this score would be achieved. However, James Hughes lost his wicket early after his good first innings performance, and Lucia Swizzard was called in as nightwatchman in particularly dark conditions to see out an over and a half.

Swizzard fell early in the second day as expected, caught off slip, before Pat Brigham and Sam Gugh put on a bit of a stand. However, they were scoring quite highly for a Test match, and provided the rain held off, a win was looking pretty likely. Brigham was out on 17 a short while later, but Jake Walters and Sam Gugh powered on, Gugh getting his first 50 of the series, finally discovering some form. With just 34 runs left to get though, the weather deteriorated and it began pouring with rain, which continued right the way through the day, causing this close match to be declared a draw.

There is a slight gap now, with Apox next set to play our other close neighbours, The Glorious Commune in a tense match, with the series containing one Test and one T20.
