Strong disagree. Youth champions are allowed to enter the Champions' League so long as the youth league is entered for the senior competitions in the first instance (and I almost submitted a puppet on that theme about 18 months ago). Why should they not be allowed to play against Champions' League teams in other contexts?

Why not just Champions' League, Challengers Cup, Cup Winners Cup and Associations Trophy winners, instead of an awkward six-team format trying to incorporate all six IFCF competitions?

I remain ambivalent on whether RSC winner should be there or not, but the LBCT winner part I would like to know more on why. Yes, I understand that the LBCT holds certain sentimental value for some, and that LBCT winner having a berth dates back to the times when CH used to run the competition, but it is also a competition that many users don't necessarily submit as well.

Completely agree with this. As much as we're a lot more fluid here due to having several different races or whatever (and I myself being guilty), it makes absolutely zero sense to pit a team of 18 year olds against the best team in the world. Similar goes for the LBCT, although I can turn more of a blind eye towards that if necessary.

1. I agree with Kelssek

2. I agree with Queb. To me it never made any sense to put a 2nd division team against elite world teams and somehow have it work out. It was unnecessary.

I agree with Kelssek and Q&S. If we were to have youth teams in a tournament with senior professional teams, it wouldn't make sense. If our expectations of a youth team's performance in a senior competition (against the top sides in the world, no less) are met (ie the youth teams get battered) then the youth sides are just goal fodder for the other teams. Why not just remove them? If, on the other hand, the youth sides outperform expectations (ie winning several games, maybe even taking the whole thing one year) it will be incredibly confusing to write about from a IC standpoint. There's a reason the Rising Star's Cup was established in the first place. Similar argument for Liga B teams. Although it would be more realistic, it would still have similar outcomes.

Personally am indifferent to whether the RSC is in or otherwise, but I don't see how IRL parallels could be taken here with regards to the LBCT. The Super Cup has been won by LBCT champions before, and there is certainly some IC thought around that some of the top leagues' 2nd tier definitely have similar levels in terms of skill as a number of top tiers in lower-ranked leagues. And besides, everyone is suggesting a 4-team (single elimination) format would be easier, but we will never always have a 100% better format, because we have to go back to a simple round-robin when a CWC winner can also be a CL/ChC/AT winner in any case, and that format has much differences as compared to how a 4-team single elimination is meant to work (in the sense that there are no penalty outcomes and that teams can actually play for a draw ICly in a groups format)

Hi folks,

I believe there's mere minutes left in the TW, but I would nonetheless love to move Chong Xian Ye abroad. He's a physical number nine who would like to claw his way back into the national team setup for the Blues, and at Nongmin he hasn't been getting the minutes he needs.

From the sale card in the TW:

"There was once a time when Ye was starting for Naixi, or was at least considered a wonderkid with the ability to make a difference coming off the bench. But though he's Nongmin's longest-serving player, he's worn out his welcome with the Farmers' never-satisfied fans (like many talents have before). He's a great number nine, though his link up play is a liability."

Feel free to rush in a bid in the TW, or TG me.

EDIT: I still have a couple of managers available, too! TG me if you are interested, there's an RP opportunity as they have a history of personal rivalry. If they were to move to the same league it'd be interesting.

With thanks to Sylestone for pointing this out:

# Group E P W D L GF GA GD Pts SlT AvC SbA LwC

2 Avondale City SYL 6 4 0 2 14 13 1 12 * 4-3 - 0-3 3-1
3 Sabrefell Athletic NPH 6 4 0 2 13 6 7 12 * 2-3 1-2 - 2-1
4 Lakewood City TMB 6 0 0 6 6 17 -11 0 0-3 3-4 0-3 -
Tie broken by head to head goal difference

CL Group E has the tiebreaker applied incorrectly - Sabrefell Athletic should be top with +3 H2H GD, Stein-los second with -1, and Avondale third with -2. Fortunately, all three clubs can be directly swapped with each other.

CL Ro16 draw will be amended to:
Revolutionaries (EUR) vs Sabrefell Athletic (NPH)
Stein-los Turkish (PAS) vs Montreal Koreana (QUE)

ChC Ro32 draw will be amended to:
Chippewa Valley United FC (DAR) vs Avondale City (SYL)

On further checks, AT Group F has a similar issue:
# Group F P W D L GF GA GD Pts SPE SKC JAN UJC
1 Sporting Praia do Emerita ACS 6 2 3 1 9 9 0 9 * - 2-0 3-3 1-1
2 Starksville Coastal CDG 6 3 0 3 10 8 2 9 * 3-0 - 2-3 1-2
3 FC Jansberg SEM 6 2 3 1 12 9 3 9 * 1-1 1-2 - 1-1
4 Ujong City FC SDR 6 1 2 3 5 10 -5 5 1-2 0-2 0-3 -
Tie broken by head to head results

Starksville Coastal should be top with 6 H2H points, SpdE and FC Jansberg both have 5. Due to unchallenged precedent, H2H away goals still remains in the group stage tiebreakers, noting that it was phased out by UEFA entirely in real life and ourselves for the knockout matches. Regardless of H2H away goals or overall GD, FC Jansberg finish second in Group F.
Associations Trophy Ro32 will be amended to:
CASK Thorsborg (SVJ) vs Starksville Coastal (CDG)
FC Jansberg (SEM) vs Eugene Troger (TRL)

As for an explanation, the scorinator sheet doesn't handle three way ties that well, and can be missed as a result. Note, the Challenger's Cup 3-way tie is already correct.
Main post will be updated to reflect this.

The precedent was challenged. I did so myself in cycle 11 when that was the rationale used to explain Athletic Saint Eleanor being eliminated from the CL groups outright instead of Straudum VV. (Straudum would have also advanced using the next tiebreaker on the list, goal difference.)

It was explained at the time that H2H away goals were not commonly used as a tiebreaker - which was an accurate assessment given that it had only been used as a tiebreaker in 25 of 412 groups played over the first eleven IFCFs, or 6.1% of the time (i.e. 2.8 groups in a full set of 46). Since then, it's been used in 22 of the 282 groups played, or 7.8% of the time (i.e. 3.6 groups in a set of 46).

For context, between cycles 12 and 17, the first tiebreaker, points, has been used uncountably many times. The second, H2H goal difference, has been used 30 times. The third, goals scored, has been used zero times (not since cycle 7, in fact). The fourth, H2H away goals, has now been used 23 times - including twice in Group G of Rising Stars Cup 15.

To reiterate: are there any plans to remove H2H away goals from the list of group stage tiebreakers from cycle 18 onwards?

This is actually a formula error. The sheet was only picking up home fixtures when calculating head-to-head wins. As a result, Sabrefell Athletic (whose wins were both away from home) ranked last in the H2H wins tiebreak.

The remaining two teams were then separated on H2H goal difference (among all fixtures between the three). I'll see about fixing that ahead of the next cycle. I will also see about introducing a set of master switches to determine which tiebreakers are in use. I don't know if I can make the order easily customisable though.

Outside of this issue, there appears to be some misunderstanding on how tiebreakers work in the sheet, though.
Tiebreakers do NOT determine the first-ranked team and then recalculate from the beginning with the remaining teams.

If the tiebreak order was restarted after determining who ranks first, then you can't rule out the possibility that the H2H order changes when one team is excluded, so that entire section has to be calculated again; separate from the original calculation. This can get extremely complicated, especially if you end up with a four-way tie (which then forces a third set of tiebreak calculations), as a single set of tiebreakers already requires around 180 calculations to separate four teams. It might be doable to calculate tiebreaks in code instead, but then you risk timeout issues because of the length of computing time in googlescript, and the limitations in place in googlesheets/your browser.

So what the sheet logic actually does is, it breaks ties in order wherever it can, and ranks accordingly as it goes.
For example, if you have three teams, equal on all H2H metrics, but the following overall group stage numbers:

Team 1 - 12 GF, GD +5
Team 2 - 14 GF, GD +1
Team 3 - 10 GF, GD +5

The tie is broken on goal difference first; Team 2 are assigned [tied rank +2] (because two teams have better goal difference)
Then the sheet moves on to the next tiebreaker, which is goals scored
Team 3 are assigned [tied rank +1] (because one remaining tied team has scored more goals), giving the final ranking of Team 1, Team 3, Team 2.

If the goals scored tiebreaker had not eliminated the remaining tie, the sheet would continue passing the tie through the tiebreaker columns until one of them does break any remaining tie(s).

Good morning, there might have been an error on the semifinals draw for the ChC.

Placeholders for the winners of the quarterfinals will be placed in a single pot for an unrestricted draw.
The team drawn first in each pairing will play the first leg at home.
St. John's Arsenal (QUE)/Serrapince FC (TMB) vs Athletic Saint Eleanor (EXT)/Katashi-Kanatsu (KOR)
Algolia AC (SRS)/RGS Athletic (EFL) vs Crisisbless (NPH)/Bavingtor FC (FVA)

Bolded were the winners. Instead we had SJA-RGS on one semifinal and ASE-Bavingtor on the other.

Just when I thought I could score things at one go...I missed an entry. With the missed entry, we will have 16 associations, which means I have to bring out the Round of 32 for both tournaments. Therefore I have no choice but to rescore everything from scratch. I am going to re-do everything and upload I guess. If there are more errors with the history below please let me know asap so I can do it within the next 24 hours.

Procedural Notes
  • Resubmissions from Toluiwa (TLW) and Cakranegara (CKR) are accepted. They are reminded to submit a fresh entry with a fresh season for the next FFI cycle.
  • With just 15 associations entering the competition this time, the Round of 32 will be skipped for both competitions once again.
  • Because Meldrum Fall (SVI) cannot enter both the League of Victors and the Confederations Trophy, the FFI committee has decided that the 3rd in the league, Pretihouse Pirate, will be given the spot to the Confederations Trophy.
  • Because the host is going on Christmas holiday, and given the short turnaround to the next cycle, they have decided to just release the entire entry list with the results this time. Merry Christmas in advance!

Final Site Selection

With two bid for the finals, the hosts was decided by a throw of a fair coin, and the League of Victors finals will be held at Adityavarma Kulashekara International Stadium, New Hind City (capacity 131,561), Indusse.

Qualifying Round
With 31 teams in the League of Victors, it was decided that the defending champions Spenson Suburbia (ZWZ), will get a bye into the Round of 16. The remaining 30 teams will be seeded by club coefficient. Teams from the same association will not be drawn against each other. The team drawn first will play the first leg at home.

Round of 16
The defending champions who were given a bye, as well as the 15 winners of the Qualifying Round, were seeded based on club coefficients, with the defending champions being placed in the seeded pot. AC Pomena (JUE) was placed in the seeded pot due to higher association coefficient over DVB Dompo (TLW). Teams from the same association will not be drawn against each other. Teams drawn first will play the first leg at home.

Finals - @ Adityavarma Kulashekara International Stadium, New Hind City (capacity 131,561), Indusse
The last time AC Pomena (JUE) reached the League of Victors finals, they were denied the trophy by a familiar opponent, AS Aguajú (JUE). That was the 11th LoV finals. Now, in Indusse, they will make their second attempt, this time against Don't Touch Me, who made two convincing victories to eliminate the defending champions Spenson Suburbia (ZWZ) in the semifinals. Victory for the Juven side would mean a second LoV title for their association, and also revenge for U.S Scudelli who was eliminated on away goals in the Quarterfinals. Meanwhile Don't Touch Me represents Chartistan in their first ever League of Victors finals, aiming to set a record for the rising association.
(CHA) Don't Touch Me 0–2 AC Pomena (JUE)
Congratulations to AC Pomena (JUE) for their first LoV title!

Posting as a heads up, that for a variety of reasons I won't bore people with (unless they specifically ask, in which case on your head be it), I will be stepping down from all of my NS roles effective immediately. Most pertinent here, that includes the running of the Transfer Window, which I shall be handing over to the fantastic Tikariot, and my place on the IFCF Council, which my colleagues there will speak about in due time, if they haven't already. Thanks for all the fun over the years, and all the best.

We'd like to massively thank Licen for the time he spent helping run IFCF, doubling as Transfer Window caretaker on top of that, and wish him the best of luck with the cited variety of reasons. Best of luck to Tikariot taking over as Transfer Window caretaker, too; no doubt he'll do a great job.

As Licen has hinted at here, we are now in a position to announce that the Council has unanimously decided to instate Mytanija as member in Licen's stead; given how close the vote instating Farfadillis was, we feel this is a rather natural decision to make, and fully trust Mytanija to competently carry out all the tasks expected of a council member. We are also under the impression that the community is fine with this decision, as per the aforementioned previous vote.

Hi everyone, this is a message mostly aimed at those people who may still have in their books/databases/whatever records of their players in Valladar clubs, which might (or might not) get relevant for the purposes of the upcoming Transfer Window.

With immediate effect, every foreign player currently registered as playing for a Valladar club is released. This decision has been made given the RL circumstances under which the Liga-1 had to be run during the last year, which prevented me from making constant and proper updates to my league database. Therefore, I feel it is necessary to make sort of a reset in that regard in order to organize the house again and make way for new and fresh names, both native and from abroad. As for foreign managers, since they (in my opinion) are far easier to track and keep updated, they will not be covered by this decision and won't be released unless their owner requests it.

As for Valladar players that may still be playing in other leagues, I would certainly appreciate an update on their current status, but you are free to keep them in place if you want.

I just wanted to post something here as I'm conscious that, for the last couple of seasons, my RP content has been somewhat more limited than others might have come to expect from me. (Season 56 now has awards and player stats, by the way!) This has happened again with the current cycle, where I have had to post a slimmed down submission which I will be filling out as I go in the next couple of weeks. It will be quicker than last time but do not expect a standard full Euraleague RP for another week.

Without wanting to make a fuss and tell you my life story, IRL has been pretty mad for a good six months now, and my NS efforts have become rather limited / concentrated in recent months as part of my attempt to cope with that, and at other times I simply haven't had it in me to pick up where I've left off. I thought I'd have more free time and headspace for NS in the last few weeks but it just hasn't happened. In truth, I don't expect RL to magically become better right away - February and March are set to be a very busy period too.

I completely understand if this has concerned anyone with key players in Eura, especially as Euraleague has an inordinately high number of foreign nationals swelling its ranks. But I fully intend to get back to my old levels in time for the next cycle, hopefully aided by a slimming down and rethink of how I actually run Euraleague, as it has become very burdensome. This does not mean I intend to chuck out loads of players or gut all narrative detail etc., its the processes I use to do the RP that are the problem, not the scale.

Anyway, I just wanted to apologise for any inconvenience or uncertainty caused, and ask for patience while I sort things out - after all, I've managed to keep the ship afloat for a real life decade up until now, and how will you all cope without knowing where in mid-table Lajuno will finish?

Valued members of the NSS community. With the cutoff for IFCF 18 having been posted, I shall present to you Transfer Window 43.

Please treat it with respect as transgressions will be prosecuted to the fullest extent a fully anonymous spreadsheet will allow us to. Please keep in mind that some crimes against transferwindowity can be traced back to you and will result in silent judgement by the rest of the community, so consider yourself warned.

Please see below for a set of FAQs previously written by Nephara.

TRANSFER WINDOW FAQ
So, what is the transfer window? The transfer system is how players move from one club to another, and this transfer spreadsheet is how transfers across the multiverse are conducted. North Americans might be more familiar with the term 'trades'. In football, player-for-player exchanges are rare (though not unknown) and players are generally bought for money.

THE TABS:
Transfers is where completed transfers - generally but not necessarily, those bought and sold in the Bids tab - are pasted to.
Bids is where clubs bid for players - generally but not necessarily, from the Transfer List.
Transfer List is where clubs list players for sale, generally either of the club's desire to move on the player or the player's desire to move on from the club. There is a space to write both their core statistics and a biography / player history, which is mandatory to fill in.
Free Agents is where players who have been released by their clubs go. They can be picked up by new clubs without a bidding process. You are permitted to put high-value free agents on the Transfer List, however. You are encouraged to write biographies.
Managers is where managers are bought and sold, in a similar way to players. Put 'bids' in the 'Job Offers' tab, which will either be rejected or confirmed.
Newsfeed is where general fluff about the transfer window, or domestic football as a whole, goes.
League Glossary is a list of all associations ordered by their IFCF ability. Feel free to add your own and write a description of it, to show the world your league's character.
Transfer and Bid Lookup are easy ways to look up every transfer or bid involving your nation's clubs and players. Insert your trigramme (TRI) in the appropriate tile (don't touch anything else).
Nations is a list of nations, their trigrammes, and how many open bids they currently have to answer.
Notation / History is a list of the standard notations (the simple form 'GK / DF / MF / FW' or the standard form 'RB / CM / LW / ST' (etc.) along with diagrams of where they go on a football pitch, as well as a link to all prior transfer windows and the credits for the people who have made them work over the years.

Where to start? Put players you would like to see sold in the Transfer List tab. Put players who are going to be released by their clubs in the Free Transfers tab. You will have to manually approve transfers for people in the Transfer List - Free Transfers are just bought on a first-come, first-served basis.

So someone bid on my player. What now? Look at the bid in the Bids tab. You'll notice there's two different columns - Club and Player accepting the bid. Generally speaking, the Club only cares about the transfer fee and if it meets its valuation. It doesn't matter how good the buying club is - the money's the same to the selling club. The player doesn't care about the money that the selling club gets, they only care about if the selling club is good, and if they meet their expectations. Selling clubs want more money, sold players are looking for clubs with more prestige.

How do I determine what leagues are good? The IFCF league rankings determine objective measures of strength. You will also want to consider the strength of the club in its given league - the Nepharan Zenith is a stronger league than the Brenecian A-League, but your player may well prefer to go to regular A-League winners Kingsgrove than Zenith strugglers Leichhardt. Most players also weigh RP quality of a given league into consideration, though only well-RPed leagues will get to the high ranks anyway. The League Glossary section of the sheet also shows the ranks of active leagues alongside short descriptions.

Can I put just anyone up? If the player isn't relevant enough for you to want to write a description for them, they aren't worth putting on the sheet.

How can I buy players? It's the same in reverse. What players do you want to see in your leagues? If they're on the Transfer List, put a Bid for them in the Bids tab. At minimum, this will probably be their cited Valuation. If the club and the player both agree by putting a Y in the relevant tab, then it's a done deal! The player is yours.

What about players who aren't on the Transfer List? You can bid for them, too! The worst that can happen is that the other person says no.

What about Free Transfers? Just put your club and trigramme in the red New Club columns. It's automatically a done deal.

How should I value my players? And how much can I reasonably bid? Fortunately, the NSS economy is far less stratified than the real-world football economy. Instead of big players changing hands for hundreds of millions of Euro, while most leagues outside Europe will never see a transfer of even one million, there's more parity across IFCF and this is reflected in more even results. If it's your first season, your top-half teams might have a full million to spend on a transfer fee, with most of the purchased foreigners being free transfers. Your best player, if they're in the prime of their career (roughly 25-29, but youth adds value, so 24-25 is probably peak value for a player), might fetch one or two million. Other starters on your national team might go for about a million, and ambitious guys in your league hoping to break into your national team will probably fetch like half a million.

Is that a hard and fast rule? No, and there are exceptions. Maybe your league is like the real-life Saudi Pro League, a low-prestige league with a lot of money. It's entirely fair to throw a lot of cash around without much prestige, just as long as you're aware of that status. More generally, nobody is going to police you for Doing Things Wrong.

What should my expectations be like for my first season? Modest. Out of a few bids for less prominent players, often in their early- to mid-30s, a few will probably be accepted - and, of course, look through Free Transfers for players who appeal to you. Be realistic, of course - a guy who is like 31 and is still an active international for a strong team is probably not going to join your lower leagues just because he's in the Free Transfers tab - but beyond those obvious cases, you don't need to second-guess yourself. Also, only your top tier is going to be a viable destination for pretty much anyone good enough to be listed on the window, and I'd recommend focusing almost entirely on the top tier for your first few seasons of RPing anyway.

If I have a free agent player, but I care about their destination, can I put them on the Transfer List anyway? Yes. Any bid for them will be for 0 - there's no club with their contract to take the money - and you are free to accept whatever destination you'd like.

Can I start yet? Yes!

What are some general points of etiquette?
BLACK TABS: Anything in a black tab is not for you to edit. That's where formulas go, and messing around with them is likely to break the sheet.
ORDER OF TABS: Do not change them. It is, in fairness, easy to mistakenly click-drag them out of position; if you do, please drag it where you left it. The first four tabs are always TRANSFERS - BIDS - TRANSFER LIST - FREE AGENTS.
LEAGUE GLOSSARY: To avoid clutter, please only include up to two tiers, and ideally just your two primary associations unless there's a pressing need to have more.
SIGNING PLAYERS TO LOWER TIERS: There is an expectation that you only sign players to divisions you intend to roleplay, and when you're starting out, a strong expectation you only sign players to the top tier. As a general rule of thumb, when you are in the top 32 IFCF rankings, your second tier might start to attract foreign free agents.
WHO PUTS A SIGNED PLAYER IN 'TRANSFERS'?: Whoever places down the final 'Y' of Club or Player Accepted has to take that line and paste it into the Transfers tab in order to seal in a transfer. As a result, a player with Y/Y in Club/Player Accepts is assumed to be de facto signed. Do not input the Y in those columns unless you are genuinely putting the green light to that transfer. Obviously, do not accept or reject transfers on behalf of other users.
FREE AGENTS: Please attach a club to your signing of free agents, rather than using something to the effect of "Club TBD". While this is acceptable, if frowned upon, in the transfer window, given that there is less control over free agents it is good courtesy to be prepared with a named club the player will sign for, instead of effectively reserving a player when you are yet to decide what you will do with them.
COMMENTS AND NOTES: Use 'notes' instead of comments to cut down on clutter in the row of tabs (and so as not to email whoever is currently the owner of the transfer window sheet). These can be useful for adding details - e. g. specifying that a bid for a young prospect will see them play with the reserves for a couple of seasons - but please use in moderation.
IN GENERAL: It's okay to make a mess so long as you clean up after yourself.

How can I use the filters?
The 'pyramids' on the top rank of most of the sheets can be used to filter details, but when used they will filter for everyone. To avoid inconveniencing other users, please either make sure to use them for short periods and then 'unfilter' them afterwards, or go to 'Data > Filter views > Create a new filter' and make your own instance of the sheet's filters.
If you need to remove someone else's filters, click on the pyramid and click 'Select All'. DO NOT 'Data > Turn off filter', which removes the filters entirely and just means they have to be put back.

In a less official function, I would like to direct you to the Foreign Players in the Tikariot Premier League sheet. If you have players in the TPL, you will find comprehensive statistics for each of them, together with the question what you would like me to do with them.

Thank you.
