Di Bradini Cup 20 (Everything Thread)

Postby Valanora » Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:34 pm

Valanora wrote:OOC: For complete newcomers, please see the Guide to Sports Roleplaying. If you need to ask anything of the host or your opponents, arrange RP angles or generally chat about the goings-on, please use the World Cup Discussion Thread.

Timeline note: I consider the DBC to take place in between the Finals of one World Cup and the Qualifiers of the next, so the DBC would also take place after the Cup of Harmony. So for those of you worrying about timeline clashes and young players in two places at once, be at peace thanks to the wonders of fluid time.

The Valanora Footballing Association presents:

The Twentieth Di Bradini Cup
a.k.a
The 41st Under-21 World Cup

The Valanora Footballing Association presents, for the twentieth time, the latest edition of the Under-21 international tournament, recognized as the direct successor to the old Under-21 World Cup. This will mark the forty-first edition of the Under-21 World Cup and, as such, we're all hoping for a great edition this time around.

This tournament is now named after Starblaydia's most-famous player, the first person to score for Starblaydia's own Under-21s, currently the fifth-highest goalscorer in Starblaydia's history, World Cup Winner, member of the World Cup Hall of Fame and one-time President of the World Cup Committee: Simeone Di Bradini. We present, for your participation: The 20th Di Bradini Cup, a.k.a. The 41st Under-21 World Cup!

With all matches played in Valanora, and the final at the majestic 78,000-capacity stadium of The Battleground, there's everything to play for to be crowned the premier Under-21 team in the world as the future stars of tomorrow compete to be the best!

40 places have been filled. For the second time in its history, the DBC will come to the lands of Valanora! See you on the pitch!

For now, post your rosters and any other pre-Cup RPs - rule number one, enjoy!

Frank Harrison's Sport Blog
The Di Bradini Cup: Where Our Real Team Shines

If you've been following Saugeais football for, say, the past 20 years, you'll find that our national squad isn't the best we have to offer. Well, thesenior squad, that is. They are, in fact, considered second best when it comes to the under 21 squad. With an overall winning record (53.2%), the Foxes have had, without a shadow of a doubt, some of the best years of football this country has ever seen. But the startling thing is, they either do not have the developed talent to play on the senior squad, or they were just straight up looked over by former manager Benoit Howard. Only four former Foxes have gone on to play on the national side to great success: Jenson Paulson, Thomas Quentin, John Barker, and Dan Nagato. Only four. Out of countless former players on the squad. We have the youth talent, but why it's not transferred to higher levels is beyond me.

But enough about past gripes, let's talk about the now. The foxes are once again in the Di Bradini Cup, a tournament where, in their first ever appearance, also recorded their highest finish 4th place. Saugeais was drawn into the last group, Group H, in the 20th Di Bradini Cup, where they will face teams from Mangolana, Churchma, Leokeren, and Chrinthanium. Little is known about Leokeren, being a newly formed nation, so it is assumed this is their first international competition; best of luck to them, but in all honesty, the Foxes should dispatch of them easily. Chrinthanium have been mostly active in the World Bowl scene, but have had some success in football, winning the most recent tournament of their region, A Modern World. Whether that skill will translate to their youth side remain to be seen.

Then we get to perennial adversaries Mangolana and Churchma, both fellow Rushmori nations. Mangolana has been to several DBCs before, and was even in our group last year. However the farthest they have reached was the Round of 16 once, a step up from the group stages failures in the past. Will they advance farther this time? Not if we have anything to say about it. Churchma has steered clear from Under-21 action, but they decided to field a team for this Cup. While they are one of the top nations in the world on the senior side, little is known about their youth prospects. Anything can happen in football, but I think that victory should come easy against their team. The Foxes have the talent to make the semis, what remains to be seen is if they have the motivation to get there.

Uhhhh....I Woke up this morning with a heavy hangover and surrounded by beer bottles in my small Carmarthen Flat. The Television was still on, and it was the draw for the 20th Di Bradini Cup. We hadn't been drawn yet, so I went downstairs and made myself some coffee. I went back up-stairs and looked at the Screen

Group E

Parsaga
Mapletish
Ocitistine
Yesoplathia
Swalenia

I stared in wonderment at the grainy screen, Who the John are they?, he hadn't heard of all bar Parsaga. Mapletish, sounded like scented toilet-roll, Ocitistine, sounded like scented toilet roll for Octopi. I then preceded to watch the Copa Rushmori on TV, whilst still in my T-Shirt and boxers. Four Hours later, I woke, I had fallen asleep. Oh Crap! I'd missed the bus to town, by three hours! I sprinted into my clothes and ran downstairs, and out to the bus, but I'd missed it. More Bugger. Well, let's hope tomorrow gets better. I'm standing at the bus stop, half dressed, in the rain, having just missed the last bus to Carmarthen till 2:34. Top show.

Champions Set to Return to Di Bradini Cup

Once again it is time for the Di Bradini Cup and with the first ever Under 21 world cup now behind them the youngest team perhaps ever to win a U21 cup is once again headed back to the tournament they so recently won. After their shocking season last year though the upcoming season will see their opponents much more wary of the young team from Taeshan. The Lil' Knights are once again back on the world scene, but can they continue to show that the nation of Taeshan is coming back into the soccer world, or was their first success just a fluke?

Some good news after that rant of impossibility, Knights Striker Brian Ibrahim is back coming into this season after breaking his leg before the end of the group stage in the last tournament. Though his return pushes the youngest member of the team, and most exciting, Tyler Pantoum back onto the bench many are really excited to see him return and the attacking possibilities his large stature allows the team. Teamed with Marshall Murgatroyd the team will be looking to score lots of goals this time around, and with a good defense headed by the co-captains Peter Fasnacht and Jeremiah Longwaters the upcoming weeks are highly anticipated throughout the nation of Taeshan. The beautiful game will be beautiful for the eminent future.

The Knights though will have competition as they look to repeat as champions. They have been placed by host Valanora, whom are replacing Starblaydia as hosts due to Starblaydia recently going into a period of political turmoil, in group G. This means they will play the four teams of Megadia, Osarius, Astograth and Carmadin. All of the these teams are familiar to fans of the National team except for Megadia. The Knights tied Carmadin in a goalfest in the most recent Cup of Harmony, and the other two are famous nations of the footballing world, or at least have been around long enough for people to acknowledge their existences.

The Knights will not unfortunately open with a bye as they did in the most recent cup where they were champions. On opening day they play Astograth in what will most likely be the decider of the group as both teams have looked good in preseason prep. They will then have their bye on matchday two. Matchday three sees them play their other big opponents Osarius in what is also another big game with many second round repurcussions. After this they play Megadia in a must win after two early big games if they hope to achieve the repeat. Finally they will end against Carmadin in what will be a big final day game in which hopefully they will seal a second round spot.

Yes, I got the inspiration for this from Cassadaigua. But it isn't quite the same. In fact, no one can write like Cassadaigua does. but thanks for the idea

Vander Rox's Corner

Hey friends! It's Jane here. As y'all know, I am now in Valanora representing the country of Yesopalitha in the U-21 World Cup.

It's been a whirlwind of a few months. When we all met for the first time, there were boys and girls in one room, from 16 to 20 years old... and we were like all strangers. I think we've bonded well, though. Coach Wallenberg is a very compassionate man, and he is an offensive genius. As the starting Left Defender, I am kind of scared about how much he expects us defenders to be able to do our job. Our style is a very offensive style, which means at times, we will be asked to defend one on one. That is asking a lot of us, but I think we are up to the task.

We arrived in Valanora the other day. The atmosphere here is very welcoming, and I like how passionate the people seem to be.

We are in the same group with Pasarga, Mapletish, Octinstine, and Swalenia.

First, we will face Mapletish, followed by Pasarga, Octinstine, a bye, and then Swalenia.

As the Captain of this team, I have been thrust into a leadership role - and with my sister's success in the Oxen Cup, people are looking up to me. I don't know how we will fare in this prestigious tournament, but I will give it my best shot and see how far this team can go.

Until next time!

Lawrence Thomas.Blog.com/sports & life: Edition 2, Part 1

You couldn't make it up! The Carmarthen Herald had a competition for two tickets to two matches in Valanora for Swalenia, and all that had to be done was to answer a Quiz about Swalenian football. This morning I opened a letter saying I'd won! But the next step was to choose someone to go with.

I choose Bob, Bob from the Office, Office Bob, he was a fan of Football, and he was a good laugh. Bob said he could go, so we went down to the office to take our three weeks leave, and I packed my bags.

Then things started to go awry. I couldn't fine my Swalenian Shirt ANYWHERE, so I went down to the Sports shop to buy one, but all they had was women's versions. Great. We drove to the airport, a convenient 250 miles away for the flight to Valanora, where I had a cold turkey sandwich, with something stringy in it. I had never been to Llandugan airport, and I'm glad this was my last visit. Everything was in Eastern Dialect, including our Security Guard operating the security check, so he accused us if being terrorists before we managed to get through.

We got crappy seats on the 70-seated plane, right by the toilets, for the 6-hour journey. Bob spilt champagne on his trousers and had to change his trousers in the bathroom.

We arrived in Valanora in some godforsaken airport with writing in several languages, and it took the Passport control guy couldn't read our passports. When we read it to him in Cracked Valanoran, from a Cyumri-Valanoran Dictionary. We finally got to our hotel at 11pm, 6 hours after we touched down.

The Greatest trip of my life had not started well

Back in Valanora
by Jessica Schanke

Valanora. One of the greatest, if not the greatest soccer nation of all time. Ask people around the world what they think of first when they think of Valanora, and you will be hit with tales of their great tradition in the World Cup. Names such as Laborious Hawk will come off the tip of the tongue to most soccer fans, even those who comes from regions no where near Atlantian Oceania. When the Starblaydis needed a nation to pass the Di Bradini torch on to, Valanora was a wise choice. For most people, anyway.

Valanora. The place of the most horrific experience I will ever have in my life. I’ve had to come back here for other soccer occasions with the senior team, but the nightmares of being abducted as a 16-year old live on. It was the Di Bradini Cup, and Valanora was the host. I was there, until I was kidnapped and kept prisoner by a psychotic man who did some terrible things that even now pains me to even think about. It was later proven the man was a Cassadagan stalker, but still I think more could have been done that day. Especially now as I am older. Apparently, the Queen also felt that way. To her, sending our current U-21's back to Valanora was unacceptable, so much so that she created her own tournament and appealed for nations to signup for that. There was a positive response, but our own juniors didn’t seem to like the fact that they had to pass up the Di Bradini Cup. Who knows what kind of teams would have been sent to Cassadaigua, anyway. I think the Queen and CASE (Cassadagan Association for Soccer Excellence) soon began to realize that we had to come to a better solution then try to ignore the Di Bradini Cup and act as if the Queen’s tournament was where the best competition in the world would be. I’ve been told that CASE ultimately decided that security would be ample here and in fairness to Valanora, what happened to me would have happened anywhere that Di Bradini Cup was played as my stalker was so intent on getting me.

Valanora. It’s where I am today. Even though so much time has passed since that incident, it was important for me to come back and talk to the girls that will be representing Cassadaigua. For all the bad that happened, there were many good things as well. I went on to win two World Cups, as did many of the players that came to Valanora back then. These kids won’t be expected to do that, but I know they want too.

I will be here. Watching. I couldn’t even do that last time.
