PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE OP BEFORE FILLING OUT A SIGNUP FORM!

Failure to do so will result in me calling you a moron and slapping you silly sending you a friendly telegram politely asking you to take another look at the OP and giving it another go.

Welcome! This is the signup thread for the fourth edition of the NationStates Stock Car Racing Association.

A forty competitor field will vie for the title of world champion over an eleven race schedule consisting of mostly ovals. This is, for all intents and purposes, the World Cup of Stock Car Racing.

The scorinator to be used is NASCAR Racing Season 2003. Normally a video game/simulator would be frowned upon as a scorinator, but NR2003 provides a ratings system that gives the competitor control over how he or she would like his/her driver to behave at certain types of tracks. It was used in the previous edition of NSSCRA with success.

HOW DO THE RATINGS WORK?

There are two columns for each category: maximums and minimums. The maximum is the highest possible rating your driver will be on a given race; the minimum is the lowest. The game uses an algorithm to randomly select a number between the maximum and minimum that will determine what rating your driver will carry on race day for each category. For most ratings higher is better, but there are two that aren't. Aggression is the first; it determines how aggressive your driver will be on raceday. The more aggressive you are the more prone you are to driver errors. Pit Strategy is the second; it determines how willing you are to take risks with pit strategy in order to win a race (2 tires or no tires vs. taking 4 tires, taking a half can of fuel vs. a full can, etc.). Again, gambling can have its consequences, so a higher rating here is not always necessarily better.

For those two categories you will choose both the maximum and minimum ratings for your driver. For all other categories you will only choose the maximums, while the minimums will be determined by whether you are a new nation, a returning nation with a rookie driver, or a returning nation with a returning driver. They each have their own signup form spoiler'd (spoilered?) below.

Ratings: An Explanation.

NASCAR Racing 2003 uses a ratings system to determine how good a driver is. Each category has a minimum (the worst you could possibly be) and a maximum (the best you could possibly be) rating.

SECTION ONE: DRIVER

AGGRESSION: How aggressive a driver is. The minimum and maximum may be any number between ZERO and ONE HUNDRED, although competitors should be warned: Higher aggression can lead to more driver errors and is not always necessarily better than low aggression.

THE OTHER SEVEN:
Determine how consistent a driver is, his/her ability to finish races, qualifying ability, and attributes for specific types of tracks. Here, only the MAXIMUM ratings are provided by the driver. The minimums are determined by past participation.

The other seven are:

Consistency
Finishing
Qualifying
Road Course
Short Track
Speedway
Super Speedway

VEHICLE:

These ratings determine the quality of your machine. Again, only the maximum ratings are provided by the driver.

Aerodynamics
Chassis
Engine
Reliability

PIT CREW:

How good your pit crew is.

Consistency
Speed
Strategy*

Strategy, like aggression, may be as high or low as you desire. It is a measure of how willing you are to take risks in pit strategy and like aggression, higher is not always better.

MINIMUM RATINGS

There are two sets of minimum ratings:

-The first set is for drivers of nations who are participating for the first time. Their minimums will be set at 40 across the board.

-The second set is for new drivers from nations who have previously participated and for veteran drivers. Their minimums will be set at 55.

NOTE: When you see this part of the form:
Rookie?(Y/N):
First Time Participating in NSSCRA?(Y/N):

If your driver has never competed in a NSSCRA season, your driver is a rookie.
The second question refers to whether you as a nation have participated before in NSSCRA.

HOSTING A RACE:

If you'd like a race on the NSSCRA calendar, fill out this application:

RACE FORM:
Race Name:
Track:
Track Length:
Race Distance:
Any interesting attributes about your track (average temperatures on race day, tire wear, etc.; there will be things I can edit in the track's configuration files):

There may be one race that is 600 miles, but other than that there will be no races on the calender over 500 miles.

You can find a track at one of these links or by googling "NR2003 tracks"; alternatively, I can look for you if you'll describe what you're looking for.

RP BONUS
The attributes you distribute points amongst are the max ratings. The minimum ratings can only be improved through RP and as incentive for returning for consecutive seasons.

A quality RP will earn you six points to be added to your minimum ratings across the board.

A decent RP will earn you three points to be added to your minimum ratings across the board.

A crappy RP will earn you no points, as will not RPing.

RP bonus will only count towards the next race.

CARS/ENTRANTS
There will be a field cutoff at 40 entries.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAINT YOUR CAR IF YOU DON'T WANT.
-If this is the case I will put your drivers' number and name on the car as well as your nation's flag. Pick your color if you want.
-Or, you can request a paint from another nation who are skilled with GIMP/Photoshop

IF YOU DO WANT TO PAINT YOUR OWN CAR:

For the first time in NSSCRA you will actually be able to choose what your car looks like. There are templates available to paint on your own or you can request that I or anyone else who offers to paint them for you, which we will happily oblige. Email your car paints to whittoria@yahoo.com once they are finished. There are only two rules to painting the cars:

1.) No obscenities

2.) Numbers must be clearly visible on both doors and on the roof facing the driver's window

Drivers are encouraged to have a paint scheme that reflects their national colors or is in their international racing colors (Whittoria's have traditionally been white or navy blue); however, this is not a requirement.

Below will be a list of teams, drivers, and taken numbers.

And, finally, NO PUPPETS.

Drivers (40/40)

Postby Whittoria » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:48 pm

Numbers from 0-99 are available except where listed below.

TEAMS THAT PARTICIPATED IN NSSCRA 3 WILL HAVE PRIORITY IN THIS LIST, e.g., they will retain their car number over a first time entry.
If you participated in NSSCRA 3 and your number is currently listed as being listed as a new driver's number (i. e., one that did NOT participate in NSSCRA 3), make sure you still list that number as yours and the new driver will have to choose a new number. Drivers with "pending" beside their name are drivers who have requested a number that has been reserved; should the previous driver wish to keep it the new driver must choose a new number.

If you are a new driver and you get "bumped", PLEASE BE SURE TO NOTIFY ME OF YOUR NEW NUMBER. Otherwise I will assign you one and you'll have to deal with it. I'll try to keep this list updated as soon as changes are made to prevent that from happening and so everyone is happy. New drivers, please refer to this list to see if your number is available

Driver Name: Alex Whitt
Age: 27
Experience: NSSCRA 3, WAC Grand National Series (1973-present), Whittoria 500 champion (2), Pat Ognurn Memorial 500 champion
Team Name: Whittoria Engineering
CAR NUMBER: 44
Short Bio, Driving Style (Picture if you like):
A two time WAC Grand National Champion, The Mayor returns for another crack at international stock car competition. A smoother driving style than previously exercised has Whitt believing he can come home with a top five finish in points, perhaps even the whole shebang. Is strong on the super speedways and intermediates, but struggles on the road courses and short tracks, despite being raised on half miles with his brother.

Team Name: Whittoria Engineering
CAR NUMBER: 44
Short Bio, Driving Style (Picture if you like):
The Funkmaster is one of Whittoria's most dominant short track drivers. He has one championship to his name in the WAC, having locked up the 1973 title with six races to go in the season. His smooth, yet aggressive driving style gives him his nickname, although depending on the number of short tracks on the schedule he may struggle on the bigger tracks. A fierce competitor with a big heart, he and his brother have worked hard to get where they are today. As their father once told them: "We're Whitts; nothing in life will ever be easy for us." Look to find Zach Whitt in victory lane this season.

RACE FORM:
Race Name: McGee's 250
Track: Lycoia Motors Speedpark, Lycoia City, Sucrati (Formerly Stingray Speedway)
Track Length: 3.367-miles (5.419-km)
Race Distance: 250 Miles (74 - 75 Laps RL But 77 Laps due to game programming)
Any interesting attributes about your track (average temperatures on race day, tire wear, etc.; there will be things I can edit in the track's configuration files): Average temperatures are about 75 - 80 degrees (F), A fair portion of the track sits on top of a landfill. This area has become known as the Garbage Dump. There is a quick chicane immediately after the start/finish line called The Snake. The challenge of the Snake is that it is a very fast chicane, but is also very tight as well. Drivers who carry too much speed tend to find themselves spinning off the course or sliding into other cars. Other drivers use the Snake as a passing opportunity since many others may take it too easy through the Snake.

Tire Wear is a bit of an issue as drivers need to use a conservative pit strategy with tires and fuel. Certain areas have good passing opportunities, but drivers need to be careful as if they don't come off the pass correctly, they can wind up getting into another car.

This track is also the Test Track for the Lycoia Motors Vehicle Line after being bought off the original owners. This track was opened up to NSSCRA activities recently after being brought up to standards.

OOC: I know this is a road course, but it is also used in other offline race series of which I'm involved in and I personally like this track... it doesn't have the fail rate of another road course we took on last season >:(

RACE FORM:
Image
Race Name: McGee's 250
Track: Centennial Speedway North Tiabasa, Republic of Sucrati (Not shown on map)
Track Length: 2 miles
Race Distance: 250 Miles (125 Laps or as close as the game allows)
Any interesting attributes about your track (average temperatures on race day, tire wear, etc.; there will be things I can edit in the track's configuration files): Centennial Speedway is a 2 mile multistage oval. Starting off a D shaped front stretch into a high banked turn 1 and 2 with nearly super speedway speeds and lane choices you then gain even more speed down the long back straight away, over the river and through the woods down towards Turn 3, hard on the brakes for a 90 degree Indy style turn, surviving that you are off to another turn that is completely different all together, starting out with the Indy style and ending with the smooth transition onto the d shape. This layout is a setup makers worst nightmare, but makes for intense racing and multiple lane choices.

The track is diamond grooved (like RL Indianapolis and Pocono) so tire wear is a major issue here. Fuel consumption is average but most drivers will run a conservative strategy if drivers try to make it to the end.

Temperatures run an average of 70 degrees (F) and it's usually windy here, with winds averaging 10 - 15 mph usually out of the West-Northwest

Note: This is an alternate location to hold the race of the same name, in case Nuremberg is indeed used again.
