[FTF Rugby Union event] Six Nations Trophy

Postby Quintessence of Dust » Mon May 09, 2011 6:09 pm

This is a competition for the Festival of Global Football series of events. Quintessence of Dust is to host events in rugby union and Gaelic football; signups for the latter, for those interested, will open soon, but not until this competition is up and running.

Format

This is a competition for national teams. The most recent world union rankings will be used. The first twelve nations to sign up with the exception of Kelssek, Virabia, Quintessence of Dust and Sorthern Northland, upregardless of rank, will be admitted. If within one week twelve signups have not been solicited, the format will be revised. The teams will be randomly assigned to two divisions of six and each play in a single round robin format, with games scorinated once per day (with an RP cutoff at about 2000 UTC, no off-days, all of which is provisional). Rankings will be sorted by points (2 for a win, 1 for a draw), then points difference.

The four teams mentioned above are given - but by no means obligated to accept - automatic signups to the second round. The second round consists of a six team tournament using the same format as above. The remainder of those six places will be filled by the top teams from each of the two divisions. So if only two of the eligible nations sign up, the top two teams from each division will join them in the second round. If none sign up, three; if four, only one. If three sign up, the second ranked teams from each division will play off for the final place.

The third round consists of a final between the teams ranked 1 and 2.

IC notes

This is considered a sequel to this tournament. All games will be played in Quintessence of Dust; however, interested parties - whether signing up for the tournament or not - may also submit stadiums that they wish to have used. They may, at my discretion, have games randomly (with home games for their team excluded from consideration) assigned to them.

Colmark will participate
There's a breathless hush in the Close to-night
Ten to make and the match to win
A bumping pitch and a blinding light,
An hour to play, and the last man in.
And it's not for the sake of a ribboned coat.
Or the selfish hope of a season's fame,
But his captain's hand on his shoulder smote
"Play up! Play up! And play the game!"

Absolutely - I prefer union to league, and I have a horrid feeling I'm about to crash out of RLWC8 tonight anyway (playing the no.1 seed as an unranked team does that to you).

Chetkosk would also like to put forward several stadiums (Stadiom/Stadiomen in Chetkosk) for consideration as venues.

With that, in surprisingly quick order signups are closed.

Sorry to anyone who didn't make the cut, but this was never intended to be a large scale tournament; if that's what you're looking for, a Rugby Union World Cup will likely follow the current Rugby League World Cup, so shouldn't be too far away.

Please give me till after the weekend to process signups and get things up and running, as I hadn't quite expected to get a full set of signups so quickly.

Official Entry to the Six Nations Tournament
Football Union for Babbage Rugby (FUBAR)

History

In a modest hotel meeting room in East Charleston, representatives of three rugby union clubs gathered to hammer out incorporating documents and create a new sport federation, the Football Union for BAbbage Rugby (FUBAR).

After an appropriate beverage break, three of the founders drove to downtown Charleston to file the FUBAR articles. The remainder split into two rooms after passing the hat to rent a second on the spur of the moment. One group busied itself with an application to authorities in Quintessence of Dust for a place in an open tournament for Six Nations qualifying. The other formed an impromptu selection panel to decide which 21 players should make the trip if they got in.

The team from Ensign Peak Military Academy is regarded as best of the lot, as they're all young and fit and the Academy actually has a genuine training programme in the sport. Zion Financial's corporate club suffer from too much corporate lifestyle, but they have the means to support a joint venture that the college kids don't. Finally, RKI (Rugbeo-Klubo Internacia) from nearby Zamenhofa Urbo have a number of foreigners, but also enough naturalised immigrants and/or their children who acquired a love of the game overseas.

Starting XV

1 Jack Wilkinson, Ensign Peak, prop
2 Bartolomeo Marino, RKI, hooker
3 Kieran McCarthy (captain), Zion Financial, prop
4 Gianna Conti, Ensign Peak, lock
5 Alan O'Sullivan, RKI, lock
6 Gennaro Greco, Zion Financial, breakaway
7 Collen Rees, RKI, breakaway
8 Tommaso Bruno, RKI, number 8
9 Alastar Lynch, Zion Financial, halfback
10 Gareth Cole, Ensign Peak, first five, principal kicker
11 Rhys Jarman, Ensign Peak, left wing
12 Ewan Burns, RKI, back, second five
13 Heather McDonald (vice-captain), Ensign Peak, centre
14 Alexandre Parizeau, Ensign Peak, right wing
15 Martin Robichaud, Zion Financial, fullback

Interchange

16 Liam Murphy, Zion Financial, forward
17 Blake Carter, Ensign Peak, forward
18 Matthieu Boulanger, RKI, forward
19 Angus Fleming, Zion Financial, forward
20 Austin Marshall, Ensign Peak, back
21 Gaston Faille, RKI, back
22 Lloyd Benbow, Zion Financial, back

RP Permissions: Please do not godmod or severely injure (anything more than the balance of this match) my players. You have free run otherwise.
