Esteemed Colleagues,

A very warm welcome to Starblaydia!

As the home of the inaugural winners of the Quidditch World Cup, it gives me great pleasure to welcome twenty-three other teams to Starblaydia for the third edition of this great sporting contest.

The four groups of six have been drawn (seen in a separate scroll) and competition is due to begin. The tournament itself, including all matches, will take place at the Percyvale Academy of Wizardry and Witchcraft near Penningworth, Starblaydia. Port keys are widely available to this location, with all players being offered free accommodation in the school's dormitories.

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to submit them to me.

Wishing every team in the competition 'good luck'!

Should not have Magic/Quidditch/Potterverse as an integral part of their RPing - or for those who a wizarding community would simply be out of character for the way they RP their nation - you're certainly more than welcome to say that some or all of your players are ex-pupils of the Percyvale Academy, Starblaydia's answer to Hogwart's, or that they play for one of the Starblaydi Quidditch League teams. Keep it reasonable, though, if you would.)

Esteemed Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform you of the squad that the Centre is again providing a team of the Quidditch World Cup. Our now world-famous team comes from the Starblaydi Quidditch Sunday League (known as the SQSL, or 'Squizzle') and, as such, are the finest exponents of the great 'sport of warlocks' known to us. Though we are, of course, hidden within Starblaydia we are, nonetheless, proud of the nation in which we live and the team will strive to match that pride with their performances. With a first-place finish in the first tournament, and making the Quarter-Finals in the second edition, the Starblaydi team are looking for a high-placed finish in their own 'back yard'.

Listed below are the players we are again sending forth to compete, as well as a brief description regarding each one, as well as the noble House they played for at the famous Percyvale Academy of Wizardry and Witchcraft. Starblaydia will play in the traditional predominantly-purple robes, also detailed below.

Keeper
• Wearing the Number One cloak and keeping goals for Starblaydia will be Enrique Esposito, who plays for the Fox's Irregulars Quidditch Club. A highly-capable Keeper who played for Montfort House, he is an excellent Quaffle-stopper. He is also Starblaydia's Captain.

Chasers
Harkon Vekkinen is the Chaser with the Number Two cloak, who plays for the ancient Jhani Cavalry side. A Montfort House Quidditch Captain in his time, he is an accomplished tackler.
• The only Witch on the team, Jennifer Havaland, wears the Number Three cloak. Formerly Head Girl of the Coraluna House, her passing is second to none in the entire land; a prized asset of the Neveheim Arsenal Witches side.
Rudyard Rumplebottom is oft-quoted as saying 'Rumplebottom's the name, goal-scoring's the game'. As such the bearer of our Number Four cloak is the Wizard most likely to be tallied on the scoring scroll. Formerly of House Leoric, he plays for Montepool County Quidditch Club.

Beaters
• Bearing the Number Five cloak is Alfred Grompton, once of Qucksilver House, who's shots with Bludgers are as complex as they are devastating. Currently plays for the Beverington Hawksworth School Old Boys side, where he teaches Arithmancy.
George Huxtable, descended from the great Leoric Huxtable, is another Leoric House member with a keen eye for an accurate swing at a Bludger. Plays for the Penningworth County Quidditch Club and wears the Number Six cloak.

Seeker
• Xantian The Eagle-Eyed, preferably known as Xantian will be the team's Seeker, wearing the Number Seven cloak. A Leoric House member if ever there was one, Xantian is eagle-eyed (figuratively rather than literally) and occasionally even reckless in his single-minded pursuit of the Golden Snitch. Caught every single snitch asked of him to take the World Championship in the 1st edition. Currently plays for Montepool County Quidditch Club.

Robes
A crude depiction (the most we could manage for this scroll, I'm afraid) of the QWC3 Starblaydi team follows:

Image

Should any replacements be required in between matches due to unfortunate 'incidents', they will be named and dispatched to the Percyvale Academy as and when appropriate.

Wishing every team in the competition 'good luck'!

The Fyreballz are extremelly excited to play on the international stage. Often at home, they are made fun of, but now they may gain some respect. The team has tried hard in training and feels ready to win some games. The main team is ready to go.
For the fans, we urge that you get ready. The team is built around speed, with the three women chasers known to be among the fastest. The Beaters are rather strong but have weak aim, as such they are not expected to dominate. The keeper is also rather weak but not useless. He often crosses back and forth hoping to block a shot. The seeker is horrible but his speed may be enough to win some games.
See you in the stadium.

DAINER NATIONAL QUIDDITCH TEAM

Wizards make up a significant fraction of the Daineri population, and the relationship between wizards and muggles is a lot more open and amicable than in most places. The wizarding tradition in Dainer is unique and highly tied with the culture of the original ancient Daineri peoples. However, with the growth of immigrant-born populations came the necessity to stablish a school, in order to accomodate the new wizards. Thus the Skull Mountain Academy of Magic was born.

Located in a remote area of the Caveirairas mountain range, it's well isolated from the bustling muggle cities of the east side of the country. The building itself rests onto the side of a cliff, with long towers and stairways that go deep down and up the rock face.

Quidditch is very popular among the wizards, but has to share some of the attention with football, since even the wizards are obsessed with it.

Starting VII:
Image
1- Keeper: Largo ESTEBERRY
The fastest player in the team, beating out even Fortuna in a straight line. His sheer velocity makes him a tough cookie to shoot past.
2- Beater: Shunya DRAKAN (CAPTAIN)
Seven feet tall, with the body of an amazon goddess and likely to be stronger than any man you come across. She's very straightforward with her batting, but with all the power she packs, that may not matter much. Her level-headedness and leadership qualities make her the obvious choice for captain of Dainer's ragtag bunch of misfits.

Voted "most likely to make opponents think she hides bludgers under her cloak", but nobody had the courage to tell that to her face.
3- Beater: Breno CROÇIU
A mass of muscle that leaves little for the imagination. Breno comes from a traditional wizarding lineage, but inside the game he's anything but refined. He likes to send bludgers towards the other team's beaters to distract them - often knocking them down in the process.
4- Chaser: Nai SIRENAI
Speedy and graceful are the words that define Sirenai's style. She's been decried as being the weakest player in the team, but her regularity means it's difficult to find a more effective replacement.
5- Chaser: Pertinax CANABRAVA
A genius of improvisation, his endless array of trick shots and maneuvers make up the lynchpin of the team's offense and defense. Unfortunately, the team is light-years behind his level and may not be able to follow him. He has a remarkable ability to withstand injury, having several times played matches through broken limbs, cracked ribs and even a concussion.
6- Chaser: Volcano BAKEMEAT
An agressive and unpredictable player. Bakemeat has little regard for safety and will do whatever it takes to either score or take down adversaries.
7- Seeker: Ligia FORTUNA
The youngest player of the team. Fragile, she relies on exceptional agility to keep afloat, shining the most in chaotic situations.

PROS: Fast, very fast. Two ridiculously strong beaters and a top-class chaser. Very entertaining.
CONS: Not much effective at point scoring. Apart from Pertinax the players lack technique.

If my opponent RP's first she/he may:
Do anything but kill players.

(OOC: I apologise in advance for my poor team images and the similarity that my roster rp has to Starblaydia's, but I am very tired and Nationstates is not my number 1 concern for the time-being.)

To whom it may concern,

The Scandinavian Kingdom of Warkus is pleased to announce that the Warku National Quidditch Team has finalised rosters for their first participation in the Quidditch World Cup. This team consists of the best graduates from the Menter Institution (The finest wizarding school in Warkus, named after Artemis Menter I) and of course, the world renowned Percyvale Academy in Starblaydia.

The talented players that will be competing for us are listed below, along with a brief description and background details.

Keeper
Zekraw Fumbles will be wearing the number 1 and stopping scores in the Quidditch World Cup. A former keeper for the Fowl House at the Menter Institute, Zekraw is one of our younger, but very talented players.

Chasers
Marxwells Fumbles is our number 2 player, who formerly played for the Transla House at the Menter Institute. A quidditch player even in his younger years, Marxwell adds a well-needed bit of experience to our team.
• The first out of two witches on our team, Verity Wellington, is a very powerful youth player, wearing the number 3 cloak. Who has been considered by many, the fastest and most powerful player in her age group. Verity formerly played for the Ynnis House.
• The captain for our team will be Daraaka Williams, a former captain for the Fowl House and a player at his peak. Wearing the number 4 cloak, Daraaka is expected to pack some punch in the World Cup this time around.

Beaters
• Wearing the number 5 cloak will be the second and final witch on our team, Anastasia Pzeltski, is a sweet girl but an utterly brutal one when it comes to hitting a bludger at the opposition. Anastasia was the former head girl for the Ynnis House. Anastasia is also engaged to fellow player Felten Wellington.
• The only android player for our team, Infinite, is an utterly accurate & precise swinger. Made by the finest witches & wizards in Warkus over the period of 4 years, we believe Infinite will be worth the effort. Infinite will be wearing the number 6 while participating.

Seeker
Felten Wellington, better known by the name 'Ghost', for his incredible speed and his ghost-like mask. Felten is a very fast and powerful player. Felten was the former head boy for Ynnis alongside Anastasia, who he is engaged to.

Below is an artist's depiction of the team and their robes (Numbers were not included in this.):
Image

Signed, Anton Fowl IV
Grand Master Of Magical Sporting

Note
Although Infinite is a very fast, accurate and precise player, he is much weaker than the other players and a bludger hit can do serious damage to his system. The only strong & heavy parts of his body are his arms.

Code: Select all
RP Permissions-
Do what you like. But no murder or n00by godmod (eg. fatally wounding 5 players.)

The Babbage Islands National Quidditch Team

Background

There are four very small magical academies in The Babbage Islands, each near a good-sized city yet unknown to all but the duly informed. All four are tied to Muggle institutions of higher learning as cover for any needed interface between worlds.

  • Ferðalangur is associated with the Babbage Academy of Engineering, Institute of Engineering and the Mind at Kopavogur, Gibson.
  • Peirianwyr is associated with the Thatcher-Powell International Institute's division of polycultural studies at Cardiff, North Island.
  • Veroserĉantoj is associated with the Berkley University faculty of languages, Lojban section, at Boulder, South Island.
  • Zeevarenden is associated with the Interdisciplinary Research Group of the Engineering College of Daimler at Belgium, Daimler.

Each academy has a Quidditch team of seven competitors and two reserves in a given season. Both students and alumni may compete for an academy under the following limitations:

  • Students may not compete in their first year.
  • At most two alumni may be on the nine-person roster.
  • A person has a lifetime maximum of six seasons of eligibility, not necessarily consecutive.

The national team has been selected from rostered competitors in the last season.

The team

Graduate witch Eva Arnardóttir, a statuesque blonde from the Ferðalangur academy, is the keeper. She has a stingy reputation on the ground and a warm and outgoing personality off it. Eva captained the team in the last Cup.

Quick, precise Gerrit de Groot of Zeevarenden returns as a starting beater in his final year of alumni eligibility. His partner is seventh-year tank Griffin Evans of Ferðalangur. Addiena Kendrick, a fifth-year from Veroserĉantoj, is a reserve.

The strength of this side is at chaser, despite the youth of the starters. Precocious Liesje Hendriks of Veroserĉantoj is a third-year star, voted top player of the last Cup squad and Most Outstanding Player of the last league season. She is a daring flyer with a high-risk/high-reward style. Suzanne Clawson, the long-time captain at Zeevarenden, is well-known to the gossip owls for her many off-ground relationships. And bubbly second-year Courtney Woods, also of Zeevarenden, has already picked up the nickname "Liesje II" for her exploits. The daughter of two Muggle stock car drivers, she shows the same need for speed on her broom. Peirianwyr fourth-year Wim Mulder enters his second Cup as a reserve.

Caradoc Gabriel of Peirianwyr, a seventh-year seeker, is the team captain. He's captured the Snitch in 16 of his last 18 league matches and was key in the Babbagians' last Cup run. Caradoc is teaching Courtney the fine points of flying seeker, just in case, to the consternation of his housemates. Courtney's house captain Suzanne is in turn both pleased to see her player learning the sport and frustrated at Caradoc's shifted attentions.

Coach Genevieve Richardson was a legendary chaser at Peirianwyr. Her single-season league mark for goals by a chaser finally fell to Liesje Hendriks after 25 years. Genevieve is one of the rare witches who makes her way ordinarily in the world of Muggles as a well-known football administrator. Assistant coaches are Ruud van de Graaf, a former Zeevarenden beater who once tried to start a professional quidditch circuit, and Þorvaldur Þorgrímsson, a recently-graduated Veroserĉantoj seeker who rather fancies Eva but is mindful of their roles a coach and player.

And now, here come 'The Hidden Harriers',
_______________flying along in their indigo-&-violet kit _

Keeper: Orrorra o FarWoods*.
(Reserve: Jherrane Gray*)

Beaters: Gerregh Karkajhooh, Ferred Karkajhooh.
(Reserves: Torross har Thrarrhray, Tarra-Marra har Thrarrhay)

Chasers: Derrak RedBear (Captain), Nerroh FirWood, Rorra Mar-Grarrah.*
(Reserves: Mirrantra Prosperrry*, Morrgarna o FayWood*, Rorrn Karkajhooh)

Seeker: Arri Baker.
(Reserve: Charn Parrar)

(Players whose names in this list are marked with an asterisk, *, are female.
The starting pair of beaters are identical twins, and the reserve pair are non-identical twins.)

(More information about the players & their backgrounds will be released during RP... probably...)

RP permissions: "Yes" to everything that you would let me do to your team, too, but "No" to anything that you wouldn't let me do to them.

Notes
Yes, these are all Ursines. They might be slightly slower and less manoeuverable than their Human rivals, but to balance this they can take hits from the bludgers with less effect on their capabilities and their own beaters can hit those bludgers HARD.
This nation's athletes are less dedicated to sportsbearship than is generally the case for those from Bears Armed. In fact, if any of them had been to Hogwarts then there's probably a fair chance that they'd have been "sorted" into Slytherin...

They are fielding exactly the same line-up that they did in both of the previous two Quidditch World Cup, now with added experience: Maybe time flows differently within their homeland than it does in the outside world, or maybe they're just verry slow to age...

Unlike the previous Quidditch World Cup, which saw Sarzonia struggle to even field a team before it shocked many observers by finishing third, this edition sees a Sarzonian national Quidditch team that have their own flying brooms, and the office workers who'd previously taken time away from their cubicle forests were now full-time dedicated Quidditch players.

And the assistant coach who started out not even having heard of the sport prior to his being "drafted" to serve as an assistant coach was now his team's head coach. Yes, Noah Plumley went from being an anonymous office wonk to a man whose every move would be scrutinised in the Sarzonian media.

"It's definitely a change of pace," Plumley said. "It's going to be an adjustment being out in the public eye."

And what about coaching a sport he hadn't heard of prior to the previous Cup?

"I'm not saying I know everything there is to know about the sport," he said. "But let's just say I now have time and the resources to devote my full attention to the sport." Plumley also had the opportunity to pay off his mortgage on his house 15 years early and pay off his car note. He said that not having those items to think about makes a world of difference.

"No question," he said. "I'm really concentrating on how best to reach the players and not worrying about where my next mortgage payment is coming from."

As for the team's style of play, Plumley said the team would likely not change too many things from how they operated in the previous World Cup. However, he admitted that the team's shock run through to a third place finish, including their draw against Delaclava, which has been the only draw in Quidditch World Cup play, means the team will not catch anyone by surprise.

"Teams will now be able to prepare for us," he said. They know what to expect from our chasers and our beaters. They also know Chris Entwhistle is a man to be feared, especially if he's closing in on the snitch. He said the time the team have had to practice and basically live and breathe the sport has made a difference.

"We've had a chance to really get our timing and our chemistry down," he said. "And I've developed a few moves with my Jetstar One that I can use to dodge bludgers."

The biggest star of the tournament for this edition of the Stars may be the Jetstar One. It was developed by Annetta Gonzales at Estrella Motor Cars, and it allowed the players to not have to borrow a broom from their Delaclav brethren or steal a Starblaydi broom.

As for the group the Stars find themselves in? Group B includes those defending champion Phoenixes. Other nations who have made their marks in the sporting world also populate the group, including Taeshan, Civil Citizenry, Mossulia and Darmen. However, most eyes on the sport in Cyanea will be on Matchday 2's battle between the neighbouring nations of Sarzonia and Delaclava.

"It's a big, big rivalry," said keeper Edwin Nash, before quickly clarifying, "a friendly rivalry. Our teams compete hard on whatever field or pitch we're on, but we're fantastic friends off it." He pulled out his mobile and smirked.

"In fact, Anthony Christensen and I are going out with our respective significant others for dinner tonight. My mother's agreed to babysit all the kids."

It had been a tough few years for the 'great' Xantian the Eagled-Eyed. Across two World Cups, he'd caught thirteen Golden Snitches in a row. Starblaydia had won each and every one of those matches, thanks to him. He'd been lauded by the wizards of his nation, his bright blue hairstyle imitated by hundreds upon hundreds of others with temporary Xantian Crineffimus spells from the vendors in the streets.

Nothing had been beyond them, no team unconquerable, no snitch unseekable. They'd swept their way to the first World Cup in Uiri and had then dominated the Group Stages in Delaclava. Then they'd come up against a team of meddies*, on borrowed brooms, who barely had a clue what they were doing. They'd been beaten, and their World Cup winning streak had come abruptly to an end.

Worst of all, they'd been Sarzonian.

Xan, and the wizarding community in general, didn't really know about the international rivalries between nations. Wizards were apart from that sort of thing, of course. Wizards had their own perception of who their rivals were, unrelated to the meddy's skills with guns, footballs or the sort of valueless currency that, for some reason, folded.

The Sarzonians hadn't been so immune to the influences national rivalry, of course. They'd seen the purple cloaks and practically gone mad, such was their ferocity. The all-for-nought meddy assault had left Starblaydia defeated for the first time, in their fourteenth match. But, more importantly, it meant Xan was a loser.

The blue hairstyles had stopped that day, and fans of the Starblaydi side had seemingly given up on them. But Xan was the loser. He'd never thought he'd been good enough, and that match was the proof. He'd started wearing hats, then changing his hair colour, then finally making it totally invisible. Eventually, no-one recognised him on the streets, and for a time, he was happy.

But then the SQSL season started up again, and Montepool County needed him once more. The blue hair was back, but the spark wasn't there. Montepool finished fifth ahead of only the Old Boys. with Xan managing to catch only one or two snitches throughout the entire season.

Something was wrong in Xan's heart, he knew, but the number seven cloak would once again be his for the World Cup. Some said that Cruickshanks was giving him one last chance to prove himself, before he'd be kicked out of the squad for the Fourth World Cup. There were plenty of seekers itching for his place, after all. Xan knew it was just a whole new set of opportunities for failure, to show off how poor he was to the rest of the wizarding world at the greatest sport in the world.

He'd have to do something about that, he knew.

It was like nothing he'd ever held in his hands before, the weight of it was perfect, the feel of it under his body even better. Whilst for many a Sorthern a new racing bike might be the perfect way to celebrate an eighteenth birthday and impending adulthood. It was different for Cathair. It was not a new bike that he'd been given, but a new broomstick. Not a broomstick to help his mother with the housework either, but an actual flying broomstick, a Nimbus 1093, the very latest broomstick to have made it's way into Sorthern Northland's underground magic community.

It was that underground nature that made the first thing Cathair did with his new broomstick feckless. Living unbeknownst to the majority of non-magical beings in the nation, it was expected that the use of magic be kept to such places as the Percyvale Academy in Starblaydia where wizards and witches from far and wide served their wizarding apprenticeship. Acts such as flying a broomstick in particular were the kind of magic that was far too conspicuous to use in the vicinity of non-magical folk, muggles as they were commonly known among the wizarding community.

That though didn't stop Cathair at all. It was after all the middle of the night, there would be no one around to see him flying through the air. Or at least no one sober enough to consciously recollect what they would have seen come the morning. So it was that in his back garden, he mounted his new steed and shot into the air. If it had felt good on the ground his Nimbus 1093 felt even better in the air. It was fast, the handling of it was unlike anything he'd ever known before and it proved to be comfortable.

Almost as if his ride himself into this new broom he decided to make to journey to meeting up with his fellow squad members for the upcoming Quidditch World Cup extra long. Having spent a couple of hours in the air performing all sorts of manoeuvres he finally landed to audible gasps in front of those very team-mates.

Calmly dismounting from the broom and back onto the land he looked up at them and asked, “Well then, what do you think? Not bad is it?” smiling.

The reaction he got wasn't exactly in the same spirit, an incredulous Theo Robertson, the captain of the team responding, “What do I think? What the bloody hell were you playing at flying around on that thing out here? What if you were spotted?”

“So what if I was spotted? Like any of those drunkard muggles would've realised anything.”

THE URUMGARD ROYAL: SPORTS
Estd. 1895 - Price: U1.50 - Friday 8th April 2011

URUMGARD CLAIM WIN IN OPENING WORLD CUP CLASH
by Franz of the Duchy of Urumberg

What a start! A narrow victory has converted any sceptics believing that Quidditch is not a serious sport. The all-male Urumgard side, captained by Albert of the Duchy of Rookfurt have been keen to prove that rookies can perform well on the international stage, and if they can build on this win, they met prove themselves correct.

The game itself was relatively short, lasting only 30 minutes, but in that time both Hans, Dralfjord, and Siegfred, Faerwijk, scored goals, along with the skipper himself, who scored two. The Urumgard seeker, Ulrich, Aranholm, was criticised on occasion for being too reckless, as he gave away two penalties, both of which were scored, tying the score to 20-20 at one point, but he is young at the age of 17, and is keen to prove his ability, which is substantial, as, in a heart-stopping moment, the Chenkoryan seeker nearly took the snitch, only for Ulrich to dive over 50 feet to snatch it seconds before him.

The Urumgard beaters, Aergad and Egbert, provided a solid defence, with their well placed hits stopping many scoring opportunities. In fact, the keeper, Sven, barely touched the quaffle for the entire match.

This self-coached Urumgard side may feel lucky to win, but their performance was on the whole solid, with the chasers passing well and the beaters locking up the opposing chasers. They may feel though, that they need to focus more on the opposing seeker, as his narrow miss could have cost them the game.

We will have an exclusive interview with man-of-the-match, Urumgard captain Albert, as well as Ulrich the seeker in the next edition of the Urumgard Royal: Sports, to be published after Urumgard's second game of the tournament.

Kagdazka and Pazhujebu National Quidditch Team

Being a relatively new sport to the long-cloistered wizarding communities of both Kagdazka and Pazhujebu, Quidditch is only just taking off in the Federation. But the young witches and wizards are playing the game with great enthusiasm, and it should come as no surprise that the best of the Federation's players are all current students at Percyvale Academy in Starblaydia. So it isn't a long trip for the K&P national Quidditch team, they aren't even leaving the country where they're getting their educations!

The team wears all-black robes with details in wisteria and purple.

Keeper

#1 - Pepukayi Ubogu - Female - Pazhujebi

A towering woman with jet-black skin, long, tangled black hair, and a generally disheveled appearance, Ubogu looks upon both her teammates and her opponents with an sinister and venomous glare, though her drive to stop shots is unrelenting. She is a Montfort House student seventh-year whose favorite subject is apparently Potions, as she has been known to stalk around opponents' dressing rooms before matches in attempts to poison people.

Chasers

#2 - Olga Pankrateva - Female - Kagdaz

If this Quicksilver House seventh-year spent a little less time staring into tea cups and crystal balls, she'd be a lethal player, with her small size making her a dynamic force in attack. But the blonde-haired youngster does struggle to maintain focus, as she makes no attempt to deny the rumors that she's more interested in Divination than in playing Quidditch. Maybe she'll foresee herself scoring a point or two for the Federation?

#3 - Vussuthapru Yudhajit - Male - Pazhujebi

Strong, courageous, and charismatic, this tall and light-brown-skinned Pazhujebi is the only Leoric House student in the team. The seventh-year is an expert Defense Against the Dark Arts scholar, and has a notoriously rocky relationship with the squad's Montfort House keeper Ubogu, writing regular complaints to the Kagdazka and Pazhujebu Quidditch Association wherein he regularly accuses her of being a black arts witch.

#4 - Kughu’thudughu Nahacha - Male - Pazhujebi

This intelligent sixth-year Quicksilver House student really loves soccer more than he loves Quidditch, and if he had it his way he'd be knocking in goals while standing on a pitch rather than flying around above it. No surprise then that his academic focus is Muggle Studies. It's a shame really, because if his heart was in it he would be the Federation's best Quidditch player by far, being tactically brilliant and unforgiving in front of the goalposts.

Beaters

#5 - Tatiana Mamashayeva - Female - Kagdaz

The team's captain, this Coraluna House seventh year is polite and good-natured. Her tall frame and long, spindly arms make her particularly adept at winding up on Bludgers. She is probably the best player on the team, perpetually ruining opposing teams' attacks and keeping opposing Seekers honest. She and her younger sister Sofia are experts on Care of Magical Creatures, regularly daydreaming about dragons, goblins, and the like.

#6 - Sofia Mamashayeva - Female - Kagdaz

Loyalty is already an important value in Coraluna House, but when you add the phenomenon of sisterhood, the bond is inseparable. This fifth-year Beater is much shorter than her sister Tatiana, who is often trying to talk Sofia down from plans to unleash all sorts of monsters on her opponents during matches, being that they both love their Care of Magical Creatures classes. As if a Bludger struck by the Mamashayeva sisters isn't scary enough.

Seeker

#7 - Gavril Vydrin - Male - Kagdaz

Without a doubt, this fifth-year Quicksilver student is the Federation national team's Achilles heel. Being a top-notch Herbology student, and he is always nervously imbibing all sorts of plant juices before, during, and after matches in an effort to improve his Snitch-finding eyes, but nothing seems to work. The team is therefore reliant upon playing the long-term game, as they know they can't depend on their Seeker to end the game early.

Spitfyred1 120-280 Dainer
The Fyreballz had a decent first game scoring 120 points. The chasers performed well, but the seeker was knocked out of the game early by a well placed bludger. He had beensearching at had finally caught sight of the golden ball when he was knocked hard in the head, before plummeting 200 feet. As soon as Mr Erdy was knocked off, the game seemed lost. Despite the valiant efforts of Quicky, Payne, and Scarer; they would never be make up for a catch of the snitch. At the current time it is not known if Erdy will return for the next game. The infirmary is working hard to get him in peak shape but concussion and broken bones are hard to fix.

The hours of practice. The chemistry that was borne from playing together on a team since the previous Quidditch World Cup. The new Sarzonian-built brooms.

All of those nearly went for naught against a Quidditch newcomer nation. Civil Citizenry held the lead 70-40 and seeker Vachine Manalan appeared on the verge of capturing the snitch, which would have slammed the door on the Stars. However, Sarzonia beater Rick Dunfey launched a well-timed bludger at Manalan, knocking him away from the snitch.

Keeper Edwin Nash allowed seven goals, three of which he readily admitted after the match he would have loved to have had back. After the sixth goal gave Civil Citizenry a 60-20 lead, Nash allowed himself a quick glance at the sidelines where he saw manager Noah Plumley sitting there.

Vice President Marshall would have been pacing by now he thought. He was right, of course. Carter Marshall had never coached a match on any level save a casual pick up affair before he suddenly found himself managing the Sarzonian Quidditch team in Delaclava. For a head coach who had zero experience with the sport before the previous World Cup, Plumley was surprisingly calm. He saw that reserve keeper Da'Ron Jackson didn't even take off his warm up robe.

The implication was clear. It was his match.

No, check that. It was Chris Entwhistle's. The Sarzonian seeker used his broom's maneuverability to evade two Civil Citizenry beaters and captured the snitch. As the Starblaydi referee signaled the end of the match, the Stars all surrounded Entwhistle.

"How do you do it?" a reporter asked, enamoured with his skills at capturing the snitch.

"Right place at the right time," he said. "And the Jetstar One is a great, great broom."

Prior to the big friendly rivalry match between Sarzonia and Delaclava, the bronze medalists from the previous edition were 1-0, while the defending champs were 0-1. Plumley told the reporter that meant the Stars would have to be ready for the Phoenixes to play with a sense of urgency.

"We know we're going to get their best, so we'd better be prepared to bring our best," he said. Of course, no one needed to know about the dinner plans he and Delaclava's coach had following the match. Not that it would have been controversial, but because it would have been expected.
