1-0! Derpsadaslkkf pulls off a huge first win!

Postby Derpsadaslkkf » Sat Nov 21, 2015 7:08 pm

In a stunning game, unranked Derpsadaslkkf beat ranked The Serbian Empire (133) to move to 1-0 in their first game. Many around the country jumped from chairs and hugged their fellow neighbors in a 79-70 victory. Derpsadaslkkfians were happy to see some of their closest friends representing their country on a national stage.

They are ready for their next game tomorrow, hoping to pull up to an early, unexpected 2-0 start after being projected to finish 5th.

Press Release from the Governor-General of Electrum

It is the advisory opinion of the Electrum Executive Council, comprised of the Executive members of the Electrumite government that the resolution proposed by United Vietussia is unacceptable. This is because we've hosted the IBC two times, and should therefore receive a commendation as well. In any case, the proposal doesn't even have an operator clause to even commend! We ask that Eura, the WA Delegate for Rushmore to immediately remove its approvals.

Julia Wunderlich OC
Governor-General of Electrum

FOR ARCHIVAL PURPOSES THE RESOLUTION IS COPIED IN FULL BELOW

Description: I am hereby nominating Valladares, a true pioneer of NSSports and active forum member, for commendation in the Security Council. He has run many tournaments as well as won many tournaments from IBC to others, therefore commendation was inevitable for the nation.

(Excuse the writing, not very good at writing these...)

So come together, check out the forum, and find out why Valladares deserves such high honor!

Approvals: 2 (United Vietussia, Eura)

THE KARDASHIA KIBITZER

SURGE UPSET SAN JOSE GUAYABAL, BARGE INTO IBC 19 WIN COLUMN

by Ray Wright

CAMPO GRANDE - Kanyean coach Paulie Brewster's wards have finally done today what they were so close to doing yesterday - notch a victory in an international competition.

The St. Kanye Surge came into this International Basketball Championships 19 group game against world #53 San Jose Guayabal 35-65 underdogs (according to Kanyean gambling website UBetcha.stk), and came out surprise winners by a surprise margin, 83-67. All of the Surge players scored, with four in double digits, led by James Blackwell's 16 (ten of which he scored in the final quarter), and Darren Overton's 12 (a perfect 6/6 from the field).

This game started out close, with many lead changes in the first half. The two teams were tied at 20 apiece at the end of the first quarter; it would have been the same at halftime if St. Kanye hadn't hit a whole-court shot at the end of the second, to give themselves a 35-32 lead. Strangely, the shot was made not by Frederic Trichet, who's known for his trick shots, but by his replacement small forward, sixth man Marc Stevens. This lead the Surge would not give up for long during the rest of the game.

The second half was when the Surge heated up, same as yesterday. After some more lead changes, they went on a 15-4 run to push the lead to fourteen, 59-45, but the only score they would make in the final 2:16 of the third were Darrell Gatson's two free throws with 0:38 remaining. The Kanyeans would then open the fourth with three unanswered baskets, one from Blackwell and two from starting point guard Cedric Philips, to make the score 67-50 and the lead the biggest of the game. Late in the Guayabalenses would have a short rally and get to within six, 70-64, 3:43 remaining, but then have their starting shooting guard foul out. They would only make one of their next eight field goals, and a free throw. None of the Kanyean starters were used in the final two minutes of the game. Power forward Adrian Page ended the game with a two-handed dunk for the final score, later telling his coach that he did it "to increase our quotient".

Backup PG Bryan Warner traded his signature white headband for a black one for this game, in memory of his father Chester, who died yesterday night after a seven-year battle with leukemia. He was 50, born exactly a year before Coach Brewster. The Surge had a minute of silence for the elder Warner before starting practice at 7 AM earlier.

"I dedicate this game and this win to my dad, who was the one who got me into basketball", Warner said after the game. He finished with five points, a pair of boards and an assist. "I know he's happy. He was able to watch us get that win, in heaven."

Coach Brewster commented "Great win for us and the whole country of St. Kanye. But we shouldn't get cocky. Tomorrow, we battle the best of our group. We should step up our practice, work on both shooting and defending. And of course, our fellowmen should step up their support." 1,668 Kanyeans were in Coliseo de Oriente stadium today, with more and more arriving in Valladares as the tournament goes on.

Tomorrow, the Surge will duke it out with powerhouse The Andromeda Islands, who bested Equestrian States 79-68. San Jose Guayabal will battle Drawkland, who dropped to 1-1 after losing to St. Kanye's Matchday 1 tormentor Britonisea, 63-76. All of St. Kanye's games in the International Basketball Championships will be broadcast live on SKYNET (Saint KanYe NETwork) Sports Channel 12 and online at http://www.skynet.stk/12-sports/ibc-19.

Next uniform: Purple. Odds against The Andromeda Islands: Heavy underdogs, 20-80.

Scores:

ST. KANYE 83 - Blackwell 16, Overton 12, Trichet 11, Philips 10, Stevens 9, Forrest 8, Warner 5, Smith 4, Gatson 2, Larsson 2, Morrigan 2, Page 2.

SAN JOSE GUAYABAL 67 - Individual scores not available.

Quarters: 20-20, 35-32, 61-50, 83-67.

Campo Grande, Valladares

Andromeda News Network Special Correspondent Rose Jackson stands outside of the Coliseum. The lights are still on after a long day of games.

JACKSON: Earlier today, the Andromeda Eagles experienced their first International Game in since IBC XIV. It was an odd affair against the Equestrian States. And...

(cut to highlights)

JACKSON: Yes, you see correctly, there were two horses on the court for most of the game. The Eagles had some difficulty adjusting to the Equestrian offense, some of which involved horses setting screens so that their humanoid guards could make uncontested shots. We talked with Coach Al Gooden after the game.

(cut to Gooden)

GOODEN: We decided to play cautiously during the first half. We were much more concerned with making sure that they didn’t get the jump on us in transition.

(cut to highlights)

JACKSON: The first half was tough on the front court. Tommy Egan drew a technical foul after an exchange with one of the horses. Thankfully, PJ Hardwick was able to talk Egan out of drawing a second tech.

(cut to second half highlights)

JACKSON: The Eagles were up 37-35 at the half. Mister Anderson, who played for most of the game, threw caution to the wind in the second half.

(cut to Anderson)

ANDERSON: We subbed a lot in the front court. I noticed that Press handled the horses better than the others up front. She seems to know something about handling animals.

(cut to highlights)

JACKSON: The Equestrians lacked the horse power to keep up with the Eagles in the second half. Anderson dished out 10 of his 16 assists in the second half. Shaniqua Watson scored most of her 20 points and 13 rebounds in the second half.

(cut to Watson)

WATSON: It was odd, because Press handled the horses while Tom, Mister Anderson fed me the ball.

JACKSON: What did Press do?

WATSON: I’m not sure, but they weren’t anywhere near as rough with her as they were with everyone else. One of them nearly knocked Tommy Egan unconscious, but they seem to like her.

(cut to Jackson)

JACKSON: Both the Eagles and the young upstarts from St. Kanye hit their stride today in convincing wins. St. Kanye only trails the Eagles by a half-game in the Group D standings. They will face each other here in Campo Grande on Saturday night. Rose Jackson. ANN Sports!

FINAL SCORE: Andromeda 79-68 Equestrian States

The Royal Kingdom of Quebec
During International Basketball Championships 18

"Scoop! Secrets Surrounding Sports Stars!"... "Shillington and Baxter spotted together in Quebec City..." "Shillington out, Baxter stays..." "RoLeo and Juliet, it's all so fitting..." "Amy Janssen sinks both free throws!"... "And Ko-oren has destroyed all hope of a spot for Abanhfleft in the semifinals of the International Basketball Championships..." "I knew I was in the right; why she never spoke up, I have no idea..."

Many people will say that the RoLeo and Juliet saga began with those controversial and viral images of Ko-oren point guard Juliet Shillington reportedly spotted in a Quebec City restaurant with Abanhfleft point guard Leonidas "Leo" Baxter, but in truth this story began with a tweet that Baxter fired off into the Twittersphere during the aftermath of Abanhfleft's defeat against Ko-oren in the 17th edition of the International Basketball Championships, the defeat that knocked them out of the tournament. Those were the days when Baxter and the rest of Abanhfleft's rising basketball stars hadn't yet been called up for national duty. In that tweet, Baxter asked his followers if it was wrong to have a crush on Juliet Shillington, the Ko-orenite point guard that fired off those killer three-pointers that effectively killed off all chance of a Fleftic comeback, not that they were threatening one anyway.

Out of that one tweet came a shitstorm, both literal and metaphorical. There were rumors (still unsubstantiated) that when the Fleftic national basketball team had arrived back home from the Royal Kingdom of Quebec after the conclusion of their IBC 18 campaign, someone had thrown literal fecal matter at the players, Baxter especially, along with accusations that the team's star point guard had sold out the country's hopes of an international basketball title. Of course, there was a distinct possibility that these same people would be singing a different tune if Abanhfleft had somehow managed to knock Ko-oren out of the tournament that time, for people were always fickle. If Abanhfleft had won the series and the title, these same people who were throwing shit at Baxter would very possibly be the same ones congratulating him for making their opponent's star point guard sell out the series to their country. People are so full of shit anyway.

Things were reportedly not much better in the Ko-oren end of things. Once news of the "affair" between Baxter and Shillington popped up in the Ko-oren media, Juliet was immediately benched in favor of her teammate Amy Janssen due to a "possible conflict of interest." The Fleftics thought that that lineup change would give at least a chance at winning even just one game in the series. But it wasn't to be, as just when Abanhfleft was looking to force overtime, Janssen was fouled and sank the two crucial and game-winning free throws that effectively knocked Abanhfleft out once again.

But Leo Baxter knew that he had done nothing wrong. His girlfriend, Fleftic soccer star Alexandra Rousseau, was planning to visit him during the knockout stages of the IBC, and while Baxter had a reputation for being quite the horndog, he was deeply loyal to Alex, if at times quite unfaithful. But he knew that his crush on Juliet Shillington was just that: a crush, an affectionate feeling, a puppy love, and nothing else. Besides, if Alex caught him with another woman, especially one as good-looking as Juliet, Alex would have Leo's ass. Alex would slap Leo around and then Alex would give Leo very amazing sex. Perhaps that was why Leo was such a constant cheater.

But that was all more than a year ago now. Surely everyone had moved on already... or did they?"

"You know what, Newt, there's still something that bothers me," Leo Baxter said to his friend Newton "Newt" Isaacs as the plane taking them from Abanhfleft to Valladares took off.

"What is it, man?" Newt asked in reply.

"I'm still stuck trying to think about who could possibly try to set me up with Juliet Shillington."

"Of course," Newt muttered. Leo had been obsessing over who could have possibly arranged for someone that looked like him to meet up with Shillington and therefore make life hell for the both of them. Newt was Leo's friend, but sometimes Leo got a little too carried away with his theories that they became like actual conspiracy theories. Newt was all for a little guesswork, but conspiracies were not quite his cup of tea.

"It doesn't make any sense whichever way you look at it, man," Leo continued, unaware of his friend's inner thoughts. "I mean, it can't be us because there's simply no way we can gain anything from it. Abdul would've subbed me out in a hearbeat, and we all know how he thinks Tim Ipatiev's too young and Eldred's too old to be a starting PG for the national team."

"Who's too old?" Eldred Rogerson muttered from the seat behind Leo and Newt. Leo went quiet for a while, and then the two of them heard the thirty-year-old third-string point guard snoring away. He'd fallen asleep waiting for the plane to take off.

"Right, as I was saying," Leo continued, "it can't have been someone on our side of the pond. If I got taken off the starting five because of this, it would just straight up cost us the series. And it can't probably be the Ko-orenites too, because you know how they immediately took Shillington off and put that Janssen chick in her place. Oh, shit," he muttered as a new thought struck him. "Maybe it was Ko-oren that pulled off this stunt. I mean, they took off the girl that we thought was their star player, but Janssen was just as good, if not better than Juliet. It all makes sense now! They knew that we were prepared for Shillington but not Janssen, and that's why they brought her on against us. But they needed a good reason to bring her on as starter, and since Shillington wasn't injured, they made up an incident so they had an excuse to take off Juliet and bring on Amy. It all fits! I've cracked the code, Newt; I've cracked it!"

"You, Leo, are so full of shit!" Newt managed to say after a few seconds, just like a movie scene. "You've been spending too much time on the deep web. Nothing good ever comes out of there. People say the surface web is crazy. They haven't gone down to the deep web yet!"

"You'll see, Newt," Leo said in the tone of a solemn oath. "You'll see that I'm right and you're wrong. I'll prove it to you and to everyone!"

"Just shut up and let me get back to sleep," Newt muttered, closing his eyes and reclining his seat. One of the perks of being a national team player was that they all got first class seating, meaning tons of legroom. And Newton Isaacs was a comparatively tall man compared to the rest of the starting five.

On request of the host, a puppet check was made.

Derpsadaslkkf and United Vietussia are in fact alternate accounts of the same person, and in violation of the rule on unstated puppets.

The bowtie always had been my favourite warm-up exercise. The squad would come from two different directions, give an assist to the guy from the other side whilst going up to the ring to score your pass mid-air. Good pace, simple passing, quick thinking. At the opposite site of the court, the guys from Daniel Toro were preparing themselves similarly.

”Timbeeeeeeer!” Djangao shouted before dropping another one of his bombs.

I kind of disliked his boisterous style, remarkable tattoos and ditto hairdo, but you could not but appreciate his skillset. As Henrique Brava was playing with the class of a bundle of wax, he would be vital in this crucial game. And if showing off and cheering was his way to get pumped for a game, well... With twenty-nine points and a lot of rebounds, he had formed the storming ram which eventually wore out the Britenian defence, bringing home the first victory.

Everyone had exploded with delight, a celebration of which I had tried to stay away as much as possible as it seemed a bit out of place. When Djangao, who else, had popped a bottle, I had calmly wished them a good night and hit the hay. My team- and roommate Samuelao had come up an hour later, grinning that some would see the sunrise. Idiots. They all knew that after that opening loss, our only chance to make the last sixteen was a series of five victories. Walking one fifth of that road hardly earns you a pat on the shoulder, let alone a party. Especially if the most crucial one, against a home team for whom the second round was the bare minimum to allow a proper homecoming, was on the agenda. Build around the imposing seven-footer George Russell from the Royals, Valladares had scored efficiently and eliminated New North Aqmuland.

Usually, the bowtie would go on only for a few minutes, but now Radeba kept it going on and on and on... We were sweating like mad, not that healthy moist from a good warm-up but the streams of water going down your back from being at game tempo, heartbeat in the red. The scores became no longer an automatism, it was a struggle to put every ball in the ring and even Djangao made no more sound but continuous huffing. More wheezing, more panting and then... That drab sound from someone vomiting on parquet and the face from Bocca, white like a sheet. Only then Luis Radeba called us inside for the final remarks, the start was only seconds away anymore.

“This,” Radeba chastised us all, ”is why we’ll only celebrate when the task is done. Samuelao, you’ll start instead of him.”

There was no anger in his voice but the gesture with which he pointed to a trembling Bocca said enough. Everyone would be sharp to bring the most. The signal, time to go. And as the supporters were cheering on their heroes, whilst they had remained silent as our five entered the arena, Samuelao whispered to me.

”You know who were the first four going to bed, Joao?”

I didn’t answer, looking straight ahead to get my focus right, but after six seasons sharing the dressing room, he knew that was my signal for ‘go on’.

”You, me, Rui and Vandu,” he indicated to those next to him with a small gesture of the chin.
”And Djangao?” I could not contain my curiosity.
”Shared the last drink with him.”

It took me a second or two to realise that Samuelao wasn't talking about Bocca, until I saw that his glance collide with the one from Luis Radeba to his centre, the tall bundle of muscles that would make or break this game.

Unfortunately we lost again, but I see that we're developing!Comparing to the last IBC,which we were the last in our group,we're in fifth now.But let's see some points of the last game:
"Ion Victor passes to Mihai Gabriel,he runs,he passes to Mihai Márius, but Marcelino Navarro gets the ball to Nueva Andalusia.Navarro passes to Rojas, but Mihai Márius recovers the ball,Peirera fails to steal from him.Mihai Márius passes to Públius,he keeps running, passes to Ion Victor,he makes three points and the game is now Nueva Andalusia 20x9 Natanians and Nosts."
"Navarro recovers the ball for them, passes to Aguirre,Aguirre passes to Peirera and makes a dunk.Nueva Andalusia 25x12 Natanians and Nosts"
"Ion Victor on the free throw,he makes it!The second one,and he mades again,Natanians and Nosts 50x68 Nueva Andalusia."

OOC: Dategate. A scandal about the date in Abanhfleft's RP. Also, IC this RP takes place just before MD2.

"Welcome to Arena Foix in Bezieres for the opening game of the IBC for the Dragonflies. Starting today are Shillington at PG, as always, unaffected by the lost final and the Baxter uproar. Buenaventura at shooting guard, his first season there, and Katharine Grove at small forward. She was on the roster before and has made a lot of games in the previous two IBCs and now finally has the starting job. Then Selena Vaughn, a similar story to Grove's, but at power forward, and she had the job for a year now. And then Gao Liang as our starting centre for the tournament. More stories on the bench: Miura, Yamamoto and Dupre have been dropped from the team too, after years of valuable service as backups. Surely the lost final must have been a sign to start calling some younger players. The Dragonflies are back in this, and they want to win an IBC."

"Hey, some things aren't sitting well with me. Shen, Azevedo and Carlisle dropped from the team or benched and they're Shillington's age, yet she can stay on. Janssen was golden after that Abanhfleft dategate and now she's only the second point guard on the team. How is Shillington still on this?" One person in the cosy living room said.

"I know man," the other person, sitting slouched in a comfy chair said, "and then the 8 and 12 point losses in the fourth and fifth finals. It's all gone bad in that tournament, and they take all players off except the one that had the biggest hand in the Dragonflies not scoring on offence."

FNSN.tv Basketball: Ficiscia goes 1-1 at IBC 19!

In an effort of making our nation proud, Ficiscia managed a blowout against unranked Outworld, beating them by a 29 point margin. The first international win of the Ficiscian nation was never in danger and ciuld be celebrated in the fourth quarter with a few brilliant plays that might be eligible for the score of the tournament. But let's start in the beginning. The jump went to Outworld who quickly managed to go ahead by 4-0, but the Ficiscians didn't let themselves be worried and found their way into the game. Michal Rasukas provided the first big moment for the national team after a little less than five minutes when he used his brilliant speed to drive towards the basket, where he scored his first two despite a foul by the Outworldian point guard. Rasukas managed to score the following free throw, bringing Ficiscia up by 9-8. The next attack ended with a steal and a bbreak ended by Kyrillos Pacorus with a brilliant three-pointer, bringing the boys up by four, which they never gave away again. The crowd had a reason to explode into cheers again in the second quarter, when backup Carolus Nannajovs dribbled past three defenders to a great score. At halftime, Ficiscia was up with 19-46 after Outworld completely collapsed in the final minutes of the second quarter.
Our boys missed the beginning of the third quarter a little, ending up with a 10-2 run for Outworld that was again stopped by the brilliant Rasukas. A wonderful dribbling brought the young Insolani to the basket, from where he scored a perfect dunk waking up his teammates. Outworld's players were obviously getting frustrated now, the game becoming more and more aggressive and borderline violent at times. In all fairness, we have to admit that some notorious Ficiscians, namely Cantrapas and Precastrum, were not without a role in this. Coach Urbanius Vero ended up benching Precastrum completely in the third quarter due to unsporting behaviour in the eyyes of the coach that the referee tolerated, taking out some tension of the game. In the final quarter, Vero gave his starting five a rest for most of the time, starting the quarter with Marci, Ianicios, Decurio, Hephastos and the young Martinus Nari who did well in his first longer shift at interntional basketball. The highlight of the final quarter was without a doubt a brilliant alley-oop dunk by Demas Harnijevs assisted by Andrinus Rectus that set the score to 47-75. In the end, the team celebrated on the court with their fans, family and friends as they took home an impressive 53-82 victory.

All teams except Outworld have now scored three points in the group, meaning that the race stays wide open. Especially Kaboomlandia's surprising loss against Welcomzia, another unranked team and Ficiscia's next opponent, surprised many and might be a chance for our boys to keep their playoff hopes alive. However, this would require a win against Welcomzia who beat a top 50 team by almost 20 points yesterday. Read total coverage of the next game on FNSN.fc Basketball tomorrow.

OUTWORLD 53-82 FICISCIA

Quarters: 12-21 / 19-46 / 36-68 / 53-82
Fouled out: --
Best Player (FIC): #41 Michal RASUKAS

FNSN.fc player marks
1 = terrible, 6 = superb

#4 F Alexandros HEPHASTOS 4.5 Defensively lazy especially in the final quarter. Played some brilliant passes but wasn't seen a lot even when on the court.
# 8 G Manuel IANICIOS 5 Solid PG play, lacked height for an effective game on the SG position. A good game overall.
#11 G Ioannus MARCI 5.5 Starting Point Guard today instead of Astrius, was better in terms of playing but couldn't take Astrius' usual leader role.
#13 C Demas HARNIJEVS 5.5 Found better into the game than in the last match, picked up lots of rebounds. Brilliant alley-oop late in the game.
#15 G Kyrillos PACORUS 5.5 Proved his unrivaled leader position in the team. Didn't score as well as in the first game but made a few big points.
#17 F Andrinus RECTUS 6 Incrdibly precise passing. Scored the most points in the game (24) and proved effective from all places on the court.
#21 G Lucius ASTRIUS 4.5 Improved, but did not convince compared to his replacements. Seems to lack energy. Again a good motivator though.
#24 C Janis CANTRAPAS 5.5 Perfectly played his height and was willing to go for the rebounds, resulting in a much better defensive game. Needs to keep his emotions in check.
#41 F Michal RASUKAS 6 Very important role in waking his teammates up in the first quarter. Again benched during the last one to prevent injury.
#42 F Tertius DECURIO 5 Excellent precision but not fast enough. Managed to even this out by good positioning.
#55 F Carolus NANNAJOVS 4.5 Played well and showed good dribblings, but was a bit unprecise with his passing. Needs to work on his D.
#69 C Martinus NARI 5.5 Was the main center in the last quarter with practically no preparation and played very well. Great job for his 18 years.
#75 F Valerius PRECASTRUM 3 Again benched in the third quarter, this time for disciplinary reason. Looks as if he hasn't arrived in Valladares yet.

Drawkland 1-1 in Basketball Tournament

Last night, Drawkland dropped their first game of the International Basketball Championships, after a decisive win the night before that.

2 nights prior to tonight, Drawkland gave a huge debut, beating their opponent Pinoyistan by a margin of almost 20 points.

However, the next match, versus Britonisea, was a crushing defeat by 13 points. This puts Drawkland at a tying record, 4th in its draw.

Head Coach Cody Morgan was asked about his thoughts on the opening nights.

"I thought the team played very well the first night. The opening crowd was very hyped up, but the boys kept their cool and focused their hype in the way it should've been used. I've had many teams that get in the haze of the moment but let the hype get in the wrong crevice of their minds, and they end up blowing it. But the boys did well, especially Jack Chome, who subbed in for Trallen in the 2nd half," the well-seasoned coach told our reporters.
"The next game last night, of course, did not go over so well. I think a few of our crowd supporters were absent this time around, likely from going a bit too hard after the prior night's victory. That aside, the dampener on crowd effect and the psychological issue of going against our first ranked team put a bit of weight on our boy's shoulders. Not only that, but both Kennedy and Campbell, our power duo, were slightly injured and had to be benched the second half. We just didn't perform as well, but I believe that we've recovered enough to bring some power against Guayabal tonight. I'm still optimistic of placing well or even making finals this year. We'll see how it pans out. I suggest to keep your hopes up."

Our top analyst, Brett Hall, with his input:
"We lost the second game of the tournament to Britonisea. Of course, Britonisea is a ranked team, and seems to be doing very well in this tournament, even without our 'contribution'. We're 4th in our draw, behind them, #10 ranked Andromeda Islands, and the other decent unranked team, Saint Kanye. We're tied with Saint Kanye and also Equestrian States, even though E.S. is ranked #16 out of all. Our decisive victory over Pinoyistan has certainly padded our PF/PA, which places us above Equestrian States.
"I know some people are disappointed that #10 Andromeda Islands is ahead, but I would suggest to not hold your breath. They had a bye the first night, and so they don't have a loss to compare with our equal wins. We have a chance to defeat them tomorrow night. As for tonight's matchup with San José Guayabal, we have a very high chance of winning. They're currently 0-2, and lost by almost 20 points to our fellow unranked Saint Kanye. They ARE ranked #53, but they don't seem to have the power they've brought with them in past years. If we win tonight, which we likely will, the odds will certainly be in our favor for a finals tournament spot."

Group D Pld W L PF PA PD Pts
1 Britonisea 2 2 0 143 129 +14 6
2 The Andromeda Islands 1 1 0 79 68 +11 3
3 Saint Kanye 2 1 1 149 134 +15 3
4 Drawkland 2 1 1 147 142 +5 3
5 Equestrian States 2 1 1 139 146 −7 3
6 Pinoyistan 1 0 1 66 84 −18 0
7 San José Guayabal 2 0 2 134 154 −20 0

As it's plain to see, Drawkland is bringing a rocking debut to Valladares, and the world of multiversal sports. Everyone is invited to watch the games tonight and for the rest of the week, on TV and online, live with the DNSN. Tickets to the actual games are still available, and it's highly suggested you bring your Drawkland spirit to Rushmore to cheer on the Net Corp!
A reminder that Valladares administration does not want any large instruments taken onto planes or into the arenas, so please do not bring these with you. Regular Corp Drums and Horns will suffice.

It was a totally foreign land, and even though Tori looked the part because of the half white half red Zovorossia track jacket that she wore as she sat on the bench during the first game, deep down she was terrified. After learning that Armeia wouldn't be fielding a team this tournament, it had seemed like the obvious choice to play for Zovorossia, the country she held dual citizenship for and had played ball in before moving her career to the Armeian league that was now in lockout. Armeia and Zovorossia were close diplomatically, having aided each other in both country's civil wars, but they had a language barrier that made it hard for Tori Gunnarsson to integrate into the team. The Zovorossians all spoke Spanish or other local languages such as Russian, Georgian, and Czech, and Tori was only able to speak German with any kind of fluency.

Tori, despite traveling with the team, didn't have to play yet, though. She would play in game two, but right now she hadn't been cleared by the Zovorossian Basketball Federation. "We could use you right now," said Nik Marinos(the only German speaker on the team), taking a seat next to her on the bench. At 6'11, Tori was actually taller than the starting power forward, even though she played small forward most times. Her abnormally tall height for a female player made her feel uncomfortable, also. She always felt like all eyes were on her, because nobody had seen someone like her before. That, and the very fact that she was female. The rest of the team was entirely male, so there were some obvious problems with fitting in.

"Oh yeah?" asked Tori, looking up. "Looks like we're doing pretty good."

"Not at small forward. Yannis is playing hobbled and he's never been a shutdown defender," Nik said, glancing at the scoreboard. The game was tied at 73, but Milas Stephanidas put the Zovorossians up by launching a three pointer from a couple feet behind the three point line.

"The hell...?" muttered Tori, wondering why Milas had taken a shot with twenty seconds left on the shot clock, and from so far out. Nik just laughed, as if he was used to it.

"Milas always takes the craziest circus shots, and he usually makes them," he chuckled. "You'll get used to it."

Tori had seen and heard a lot about Milas during her short stay in Zovorossia before flying out of the country for the IBC. She had seen him in commercials, on billboards, saw fans wearing his jersey, he seemed to be some kind of sharpshooting superstar in Vlasovo. In person, he was actually pretty quiet and socially awkward, which reminded Tori of herself. She too was a massive star back home, who got endorsements and had a following of fans, but in private she didn't act like a celebrity at all.

Zovorossia went on to win their first game of the IBC, after running down the clock and adding some points from foul shots. Tori was happy, but also nervous because she realized that the next game would be one that she would play in.

The match against Halfblakistan went even better for the Zovorossians, with Tori dominating and scoring twenty four points and grabbing seventeen rebounds at the forward position. The game was close at first, Halfblakistan leading before Milas got into form, but once he did, he made everyone around him better and shot well, scoring twenty. Even though she played well, Tori still felt like an outsider. She didn't get this team or their traditions, even the minor things like why they wore sleeved jerseys or what it was that the fans in the stands were chanting. "Why are those fans shouting at me?" Tori asked Nik, pointing at the group of rowdy Barra Bravas behind the bench who were popping flares and staring at Tori and Nik.

"They want you to lead the victory chant," Nik explained, taking Tori by the arm and pulling her towards the bench. "The one that the Vlasovo fans sing."

Tori knew which chant Nik was talking about, and she jumped into the stands and took a megaphone from someone, leading the fans in singing it. These fans were from all parts of the massive country, with varying ethnicities and native languages, but the one thing that united all of them was the crimson that they wore, the team they represented. They reminded Tori of the fans from back home, something she was thankful for.

As she was about to head to the locker room, she saw a familiar face in the tunnel. Her little sister, Anja. Anja was a MMA champion back home, only a couple years younger than Tori, and she too would be competing in Zovorossia next season. "Nice game, sis," she said, grinning. "Maybe I'll finally not be the only trophy winner in the family."

Tori knew Anja was joking but she wasn't really in the mood for jokes, with how hard of a time she was having here and all. "Real funny, sis," she muttered, pushing past Anja to go to the locker room. Maybe she was being overly sensitive, but she really didn't feel like bantering with her sister. She's not gonna be the only champ in the family for long, she thought, smiling just a little as she reflected on the great game she had played.

Vangaziland pulled off an upset, beating one of the top 5 ranked teams in the IBC. Not many people in the international community gave 42nd ranked Vangaziland too much of a chance.

"It was just about fundamentals", Myke Fulborg said on the floor seconds after regulation ended. He appeared quite calm and even humble about the win. His teammates walked off the courts without any celebrating or braggadocios attitudes. It seemed like it was just another game for them. "This is a stepping stone", he continued. "We really have big goals and are working to get there."

Vannish fans have flocked to Valladares. There was a loud contingent of fans cheering throughout the game.

"The fans? They helped." Team captain Jon Jennsen spoke alongside his coach at the press conference. Jennsen continued, "We hope fans of good basketball from any nation can give us a chance and enjoy our style of play."

This was another game with many lead changes. It was hard for Vangaziland to keep the lead, but in the end they made it.

Vangaziland hit 15 of 17 free throws. One or two more misses and we might have a different outcome.

"We really stress basic skills in Vangaziland", Coach Tomasson said. "It helps us compete with the top teams. Tonight, it really worked well for us."

Julius Handsen led scoring with 25. He added 6 assists and 6 rebounds. Center Lonnie Knucks added 17 points and had 2 blocks. He ended up playing more minutes than stalwart Frank Hurcle, who got into early foul trouble.

Fred Sokol went 4 of 4 from behind the arc, hitting three of those from either corner.

Yulssen had a few turnovers that could have really hurt the team, but he finished with 8 assists. He struggled offensively, making only 3 of 8 shots from the field.

The Vannish highlight of the game was a windmill 360 dunk by Christopher Ironwrought on a 2 vs 1 fast break. Coach Tim yelled at him as he came back down the court, telling him to keep it simple. The coach just wanted points, not pizzazz. "I had control of the ball", Chris said postgame. "But I understand what the coach wants." This was Ironwrought's second international game.

Overall it was an efficient shooting performance and an excellent display of defense. Both teams fought hard for the win and the luck was just on the side of Vangaziland.

Phoenix Shock Quebec

It was a shocked crowd in Valladares as the plucky underdog Kaboomlandians shocked the world's No. 7 team, the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. The Phoenix are now tied for the top spot in the group with Kirisaki and Welcomzia, both of whom also won today. "We played well and I really think we surprised the Quebecois here," commented coach Michael Myers. In particular, Michael Buckner, the Phoenix' gargantuan point guard, continues to play the tournament of his life, scoring 37 points against the Quebecois and still playing great defence. Next up for Kaboomlandia is #142 Vaugania, who had a bye tonight and is 1-1 for the tournament.

THE KARDASHIA KIBITZER

SURGE SHOCK EAGLES, IMPROVE TO 2-1 IN IBC 19

by Claude Harlan

CAMPO GRANDE - Yesterday, coach Paulie Brewster told the St. Kanye national team to step up their game as they will be playing against the tenth-best basketball-playing country in the world, The Andromeda Islands. And they did so, emerging 81-72 victors, in what must be the biggest David-and-Goliath story in the 19th edition of the International Basketball Championships so far.

Frederic Trichet equaled his Matchday 1 output with 18 points, Billy Forrest added 13, and Darren Overton had a double-double with 10 points and rebounds. The Surge held the Eagles to just eight points in the fourth quarter and moved up to solo second in Group D with six points off two wins and a single defeat. Forward PJ Hardwick led The Andromeda Islands with 21 points. Center Dan Stuckey contributed 15 before fouling out with 2:24 remaining in the game.

The Andromeda Islands opened up the scoring with a center three from guard Thomas Anderson. St. Kanye responded with a reverse layup from Trichet, plus a free throw off a foul by Tommy Egan. Then a short jumper by Hardwick, and another by Trichet from the same distance. No team led by more than three during the first quarter, until Stuckey beat two Kanyean defenders at the end for a dunk to put the Eagles up by five.

The second quarter started with Stuckey committing two quick fouls, causing Andromedan Coach Al Gooden to sit him out for the remainder of the quarter. The second of these fouls would also cause Kanyean co-captain, SG James "Jimmy B" Blackwell, to get benched due to a bloody lip. He would return later, 8:46 remaining in the third. The halftime score was 43-46 The Andromeda Islands, with Jason Morrigan blocking Hardwick's last-second shot which could have made the lead a little bigger.

The third saw the Surge try to pull away again, with an 8-0 run putting them up by five again, 57-52, which the Eagles quickly tied. Another Kanyean block, this time by Forrest, shrank the Andromedans' lead yet again, 63-64, after thirty minutes of play.

There were several ties and lead changes for most of the fourth. The Surge were up, 74-70, with 1:32 remaining. They had the ball, but it was swiped by Anderson, who ran back to the Eagles' side of the court unguarded. But the layup was a miss, and instead of the Surge's lead being cut down to two, it grew to seven with Mikael Larsson's fadeaway trey on the next possession. The Eagles would again fail to score on their next possession, causing them to foul Overton with 0:49 remaining. He would make both shots and put the Surge up by nine, 79-70. Eagle reserve John Knox would then make an outside shot, but he was stepping on the line, and so his shot was only a long two. Overton would get fouled and make two shots again. The Eagles would not get on their side of the court anymore. Blackwell swiped the ball from them and dribbled away the remaining time, as the 2,021 purple-and-lime-clad Kanyeans at Coliseo de Oriente stadium did a wave and shouted "SAINT KAN-YE! SAINT KAN-YE!"

"This win tells the world that there is a new force to be reckoned with in international basketball", said Coach Brewster, dripping wet with Brawndo that his players have dumped on him as if they just won a finals game. "I couldn't be prouder of my boys. And kudos also to The Andromeda Islands for putting up a good fight, but it just so happened that we showed we wanted that win more."

"I told my teammates at practice that the Eagles are nothing to be scared with", said co-captain Overton. "They're also human. They make mistakes. And if we could force them to make those mistakes in the game, we could very well take them down, which we did." The entire team celebrated by having dinner at a five-star restaurant in Campo Grande city, except Bryan Warner, who returned to his hotel to observe his late father Chester's funeral online.

St. Kanye's next opponents are the horses of Equestrian States, fresh off a one-day break (the Surge's would be the day after this game). The Andromeda Islands play an enormous Drawkland squad, who were felled by San Jose Guayabal, 71-92. All of St. Kanye's games in the International Basketball Championships will be broadcast live on SKYNET (Saint KanYe NETwork) Sports Channel 12 and online at http://www.skynet.stk/12-sports/ibc-19.

Next uniform: White. Odds against Equestrian States: Slight favorites, 58-42.

Scores:

ST. KANYE 81 - Trichet 18, Forrest 13, Overton 10, Blackwell 8, Larsson 7, Philips 7, Stevens 5, Morrigan 4, Smith 3, Gatson 2, Page 2, Warner 2.

THE ANDROMEDA ISLANDS 72 - Hardwick 21, Stuckey 15, Hurley 9, Anderson 7, Egan 7, Knox 6, Watson 3, Walker 2, Westchester 2, Gomez 0, Pahlavi 0, Press 0.

"Watchers of WATV 8 News, this is the end of our current affairs news. We will now turn you towards WATV Sports."

Camera switches to WATV Sports with Anchorwoman Jo Jin Ri standing in the center of the WAT Sports platform.

Jo Jin Ri speaks:

"Hello, I'm Jo Jin Ri for WATV Sports. Gimians set to record their second consecutive win in Group E of the nineteenth tournament of the International Basketball Championship. Having won against a ranked Sword Bloke team, Gim has set out to carry the momentum into their second group game against The Boatia. Although The Boatia are unranked, the Gimians could not be complacent, since they were themselves unranked, giving them no guarantee of having advantage over their current opponent. Let us get to the highlights."

Camera shows an aerial view of Arena Foix in Bezieres, Valladares.

"Gim rested one day after their victory over Sword Bloke. 1st quarter. Gimian player, Byun Do Won, dribbles the ball just outside the right side of the Boatian zone. He dribbles the ball towards the left and shoots from outside the line, and he scores(0:05-0:24). 3 points for Gim. Gim having an early lead: 14-5."

Camera shows Gimians attacking within the Boatian zone.

"2nd quarter. Gim up by 17: 34-17. Byun Do Won slowly dribbles the ball towards the Boatian zone. Facing minimal resistance, Byun Do Won shoots the ball from just the outside the Boatian zone, and scores(0:27-0:32). 37-17. Byun nets a three-pointer again!"

Camera shows The Boatians attacking within the Gimian zone.

"3rd quarter. Gimians leading slightly 47-43. A Boatian center drives the ball past Gimian defenseman, Seo Oh Min, and scores with a layup. 47-45. Gim has an insecure lead at this point in the quarter."

Camera shows Gimians attacking within the Boatian zone.

"4th quarter. Gim up by 3: 60-57. Gimian attacker, Ban Yeong Hoon, dribbles the ball into the Boatian zone, feigns a power move, passes backwards to a wide, open Byun Do Won, who shoots from just outside the Boatian zone. He scores!(0:39-0:44) Another three-pointer from Byun, who scored twenty-six points just tonight. 63-57."

Camera shows Gimians shaking hands with The Boatians.

"Full time whistle is blown, and Gim obtains its second victory in the tournament. 67-60 the final score."

Hotel de Colorado
Campo Grande, Valladares
Sunday, July 21
10:15 pm

The Eagles succumbed to St. Kanye’s Cinderella story last night. Coach Gooden decided to have morning practices today and tomorrow. He was concerned that the Eagles were overconfident yesterday & wanted to give them a real wake-up call.

After practice, the team returned to the hotel. Helena Press spent part of the afternoon getting a massage. The massage therapist was a bit short, but she didn’t mind. He had a nice smile, he smelled nice and he knew his business.

Press walked to her room, wearing a sweat suit. Smooth Walker passed by her, carrying a room service menu.

WALKER: So, Press, you ready for tomorrow?

PRESS: I’m a bit worried.

WALKER: A bit worried. So, you want a cookie?

Press hadn’t expected Smooth to be so dismissive.

WALKER: Kelly’s going to make cookies in our kitchen here. I think you should try some.

Press realized that Walker was actually offering cookies.

----------

Press sits at a table with Walker and his wife, Kelly. You couldn’t find two more different people. Smooth is a slim 6’9” while Kelly is stocky and barely 5 feet tall.

Walker had ordered room service for all three. He ordered everything on the room service menu that he and Kelly could thing of. Kelly had also made a fresh batch of her cookies. Walker heads to the kitchen. Press had been polite for most of the meal.

KELLY: Miss Press, I think you and Marley have the same problem.

Kelly was the only person allowed to refer to Walker by his actual name.

KELLY: You’re both really tall and thin. That’s good if you’re on a fast team, but front court players are usually more bulky, like Tommy and Shaniqua.

WALKER: She’s not as bad as me though.

Walker comes out of the kitchen with a cookie.

KELLY: Marley doesn’t like to eat, but he really needs to keep his weight up.

WALKER: You should try one of these, Press. They’re out of this world.

----------

After about an hour, most of the room service has been devoured. Walker, Kelly and Press are laughing like old friends.

KELLY: Preston-kow-sky?

PRESS: No, no no no no no! Presbyndowski. That’s my last name. I had them shorten it to Press. Easier to spell.

Press turns to Walker.

PRESS: Those kids from St. Kanye were for real.

WALKER: I wish I could remember when I was that young.

PRESS: And the way they played, that’s how we should play tomorrow. Reckless abandon. Nothing to lose.

WALKER: How many of those cookies have you had?

PRESS: Two.

WALKER: And you normally don’t eat this much?

PRESS: No, but the food is so delicious. The spare ribs...

WALKER: Baby, we should tell her!

PRESS: Tell me what?

KELLY: The cookies have a secret ingredient. It helps Marley with his appetite.

WALKER: It also helps with all the aches and pains of the Basketball Season.

The room is quiet.

PRESS: What was in those cookies?

KELLY: Marijuana!

The room is silent.

WALKER: It’s not a performance enhancing drug.

Suddenly, the trio starts laughing again.

PRESS: Thank goodness. I was thinking you injected them with steroids.

KELLY: Well, the cookies did get more buff in the oven.

Press laughed so hard that night that she cried. That night in Smooth Walker’s room helped her put things into perspective. The three spent the rest of the evening forgetting about their troubles.

Canalave Iconic Arena
Canalave, Valladares

Just under a second to go and Abanhfleft was looking to get their International Basketball Championships campaign into high gear. Vangaziland was a tough opponent, resilient and just plain unwilling to show their bellies, which were undoubtedly not yellow, not with the way they were risking their bodies and the fouls just to keep Abanhfleft from scoring more than they did. But it was possible for Abanhfleft to score more than their opponents, and right now they were holding on to a slim two-point lead. Abanhfleft 78, Vangaziland 76.

That was the good news. The bad news was that it was Vangaziland that was inbounding after Newton Isaacs had fouled Frank Hurcle and caused a turnover in the final second of the game. It had given Vangaziland a chance to force overtime or even actually get the win and the upset. Granted it was a slim chance, but it was still a chance nonetheless, and the Royals looked to take every chance they could get.

Hurcle would inbound the ball towards Julius Handsen, noted as the Royals' three-point specialist. But Abanhfleft had picked up on it and deployed Newt and Leo Baxter to double-team Handsen, forcing the Royals to rethink their game plan--for just a brief moment. Hurcle threw the ball towards Hectare Yulssen, who was beyond the arc and ready for the three-pointer. In a last-ditch attempt at defending the naturalized center of the Fleftics, Damian Gonzalez threw up his arms to block. Then suddenly Yulssen dipped his arms and tried to shoot the ball from underneath the Argentine's arms. It was so unexpected that Gonzalez had no time to react. The referee blew his whistle for a foul. Vangaziland would get free throws, and just as the buzzer sounded.

"Shit," Leo muttered as he, Newt and Gonzalez filed off towards their bench. Since the free throws were taking place at the end of the game there was no longer any need for players to form up alongside the free throw line for an attempted rebound. "If he hits all three free throws, there goes the game."

"I am really terribly sorry for giving him the free throws," Gonzalez said in accented English. "But he ducked his arms and I couldn't stop myself.

Yulssen stepped up to the charity stripe, dribbled the ball, took a deep breath, and shot. The ball went in to the net with the classic flick-swoosh. The second ball went down as cleanly as the first. Tie game. Yulssen took a deep breath once again, dribbled the ball and then stopped for a moment, seemingly realigning his shot, and then he threw the ball. It bounced agonizingly off the rim and then it finally fell into the basket straight.

"There goes the neighborhood," Leo muttered as the Royals celebrated their surprise upset win. He didn't mind walking up to the Vangaziland players and shaking hands and exchanging high-fives with them, but somehow things didn't seem right. But no matter. There was always next game. They couldn't possibly repeat their undefeated performance this time around, could they?

Could they?

I would like to be told how this preposterous statement is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. I believe it is a irrelevant statement meant to take out my team, so another team was associated just so it looked right. Any arguments, or is this an attack on an UR team??? :eyebrow: This need to be resolved sometime before MD3 so I know if I am playing or not since I plan on writing a good RP today...I want it rechecked just to make sure this isn't a phoney IP by a mod. I also want a quote from the IBC 19 rules of what I am being charged disqualification with.

OOC: Nobody is setting you up. The mod evidence is probably backed by the fact that you posted two very similar RPs a few minutes within each other. The timing of those two posts is back to back. So someone jumped in seconds after you posted and in 3 minutes completely copied your style so the posts look identical?

You can call for innocence, but if the mod found something, then maybe you should just fess up and not cause a scene. Especially not on the board that is meant for RP. Take this to the sign up or international basketball OOC.

The two nations were made two days after another, pretty big coincidence. And also, nobody is trying to take your team out. Nobody cares that much. Please do not insult our intelligence. It is a well known fact that one can only have 1 puppet and must declare it.

You also said in a post it is a neighboring nation. But now you are saying some random country was made to associate with you?

Further discussion on this topic by me would continue on the OOC sign up thread. Admit what you did and move on. Next time don't try to take an extra chance at winning.
