I'm not really sure there is an RL analouge, but the aim of the project was to update existing tube artillery models to a more "modern" standard.

I don't believe it works in infoboxes, and the other extension... didn't play nice with our current set-up.

Fair enough, looking at the project template they do have, it appears to be more of a civil/social engineering thing, and the Manhattan Project uses the milunit box.

Just tried to do a preview of the "Modern" skin and it's not loading at all.

I was wondering what the other themes look like. And apparently they make the whole website blank.

I was able to disconnect by removing all cookies but if I try to login with my account I still get the broken theme.

Append ?useskin=Vector to the URL to change your preferences back, like so: http://iiwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page?useskin=Vector

Alternatively, though, I have commented out the include of the Modern skin, so everyone who was using it is no longer doing so.

My category never comes out right when I work on iiwiki pages I might make my category Wars but then it goes into politics or when I try to use my country's category but it just goes into the category countries

Make sure you're doing [[Category: {Category name}]], for example: [[Category:Wars]]. They should direct right to the category specified.

Some form of ad-like linking section (apparently linking only to pages in [[Category:Countries]]) is appearing at the very bottom of all IIWiki pages for me right now, including the main page. It espouses to be Google-powered, and does link to the Google Adsense service. I am presently using the default skin, and am unsure as to if this is an issue on other skins as well. Is anyone else having issues with this? If so, is there a way to prevent it from appearing?

That's a matched content ad from Adsense. It should not, however, look like that. So, until I can figure out why it looks that terrible when the "live preview" shows something different, I've removed it.

It really should be in the sidebar supporting the actual adspace, anyway.

Shouldn't be a problem, unless the templates require something we can't support. I'll try importing what templates I can find on that page - preferably, I will be given a list of them instead of finding them myself, though.
