Radios are apparently going to be jammed by strategic-level assets, meaning Omni-directional tac-radios are going to be useless real quick. Directional sat-comm antennas (specifically tailored to have minimized sidelopes/radio-signature and minimized radio interference) will also be affected.

So I'd like a show of hands on how many non-Hurti squads upgraded to laser-based sat-comms.
-In either case, I'm pretty sure that's what Mon's forces used to relay pics of our force's faces ahead of us. So DEN can use what Royce has got.

Nah, my squad doesn't have any lasers for comms. No matter how much the enemy jamms the radio spectrum, though, we've still got ultrasonic for inter-squad-member communications (as long as we're fairly nearby), that doesn't help with talking to Nexus or the drones, though.

Also, you implied your squad has laser comms. What spectrum are you using, and do they work indoors?

They need big infrastructure around them to be man portable (at least 2DOF stabilization) and need to be positioned somewhere inconvenient like the top of a helmet or the top of a backpack. They have trouble with fog, clouds, sunlight, rain, snow, scattered sunlight, air pocket distortion, and more. And they flat-out don't work with heavy walls in between people. I don't really see how one could shrink a laser-comms unit to anything smaller than a dedicated soldier.

Nope. What they do carry is a receiver, not a transceiver. Able to receive the messages securely, but sending message back becomes much more problematic without the proper support structure. Cutting out the transmitting part of the device makes it much more handy.

This is good as well. My military has one man in each squad with a set of laser and normal comms on his backpack. Everyone else uses normal comms.

Nah, my squad doesn't have any lasers for comms. No matter how much the enemy jamms the radio spectrum, though, we've still got ultrasonic for inter-squad-member communications (as long as we're fairly nearby), that doesn't help with talking to Nexus or the drones, though.

Nobody on my team can carry laser comms, the closest thing is Koopa can establish laser upload/download links and laser connections with drones to install mission data, afterwards he can just control and watch the drone on wireless uplink.

My nice Rhino that apparently is never used anymore could probably be loaded with one, but no Remnant drones have them, but it would be a waste, due to the Remnant doctrine with drones.

The closest thing Alfa comes to anything laser are Designators and the occasional AN/PEQ-15 when it suits the needs of the OP. This fancy stuff takes time, maintenance, and while it may help in certain situations, it is just a hassle in most.

AN/PSQ-23 knockoff, which when Kayora is using it while plugged into a decent inertial guidance system, provides some pretty scary results.
