Can I use timing in my posts to justify that my post is not a godmod?

Timing is always the best way to justify that what you are writing is not godmod. BUT!! And this is a big but, if you find out in an out of character discussion that someone is going to attack you, and then in the RP, you write that you are defending your borders or whatever, even ahead of time, that is still godmodding

depends on what you like. If you are looking for something with a bit more action and tension, international incidents is the best place. More political events are in Nationstates. Sports are in NS Sports and anything related to trade or the economy is in Economy and Trade.

Depends. Are we talking the following situation?

Nation A posts that on 10 January he launches an aerial assault of Nation B from the east.
Nation B then writes a post where, on 7 January, he deploys a carrier squadron to the east that will arrive just in time to deal with the attack.

To me, that's not right, and I wouldn't condone it. It's not much better than using OOC information to get ahead. That said, not all situations should require you to have written on it ahead of time. If you're unsure, ask the other participants if it's alright.

It might be very difficult...sometimes the tactics just don't work. In those cases, its pretty impossible to make an effective fighting force to RP with.

They say the best offense is a great defense.
So why not do a rushing defense?

The Testudo formation was a tactic used by Roman soldiers.
Why not create a spin on that, but with riot shields and guns?

I do believe this won't work. Why? No testudo will stop an explosive round of modern mortar, not to mention heavier weapons.

The issue is here the principle of mass & dispersion. Long ago when swords were used, there was requirement for far bigger shoulder - to - shoulder mass to break through enemy's line. In greek Phalanx or Roman legion, task of those in lines besides the first one was to push forward the ones who were doing the fighting.

This was the way of waging war throughout entire middle eages and early modern period - ended in 1700s when guns became widespread, and fight slowly became being carried mostly on the distance. Then guns started to develop, increasing their range and rate of fire - forcing the armies to disperse their soldiers over wider distance to avoid the massive causalities such fire would have caused if the soldiers stayed together.

Currently, a group of people staying together with a riot shields would have been decimated by a single mortar round. In era where infantry held thermobaric weapons can have lethal blast radius of 10 meters - it is asking for slaughter.

Sufficient to say - why not in such case go in asymmetric direction? As gen. Michael Collins, who led the Irish uprising against British rule wrote, Celts have long tradition of light infantry warfare.

If I think I know what you're talking about, it's just a combination of formatting tags and images. I personally have never done anything of the sort, but I've seen at least one.

Also, pretty sure there are some websites that will allow you to create a signature for your fictional leader. Or you could squiggle it out yourself and scan it to digital form, but I think that's too much work for what I'm getting out of it.

It's a combination of BBCode (those boxes at the top of the textbox) that allow you to format things, and images players create to give the communique the authentic feel of their nation. If you hit "quote" above the post, you can look at the code they used to help you figure out how to design your own.

Past tech is technology that existed before the cold war
PMT is everything past that 5 year period until (I guess 2050)
and everything, technology wise, after that is FT

I always define FanT as anything that doesn't fit into those categories.

stuff like that is widely agreed with as FanT, I don't know about much other things. What are you wanting to define as FanT?

FanT generally describes 'fantasy' or 'fantastical' technology base. What exactly this means can vary widely, as it can mean a classical medieval fantasy (i.e. Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire), stretch to include things like various '-punks' (i.e. clockpunk, steampunk, dieselpunk), or even things such as urban fantasy, where magic meets modern technology in some way or form. FanT is--inherently--very flexible, as it tends to only imply so derogation from 'realism' as we know it. Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, and the Dresden Files would all likely qualify as 'FanT' in NS terms, despite their wildly different interpretations of what the 'fantasy' means.

It's difficult to give a detailed explanation, since the base is so broad, but if you see a thread marked as 'FanT', expect for things to differ from reality in some manner.
