Welcome to the Steel Era RP region OP! The idea of Steel Era is to create an in-depth and realistic world to RP in, with a technology level capped in 1956. Member nations will conduct IC business in a realistic fashion, ranging from international trade, domestic affairs, foreign policy, etc. Fun is the goal in Steel Era, and provides the chance to make new friends within the NS community, all while engaging in an enjoyable RP experience that allows you to make the most of your RP abilities as you guide your nation in the activities of the region.
Because realism is emphasized, calculators such as NSTracker will not be used in Steel Era. Instead, you have the freedom to decide the statistics and attributes of your nation from the ground up. The description NationStates has given your nation does not need to apply here. Of course, numbers need to be reasonable, and the cap on population is set at 400 million. For reference, in 1950, Italy was the 10th largest country with just over 47 million citizens. China, on the other hand, sat at over 560 million. Everyone cannot be a powerhouse, or a global hegemony, be it in their military or economic strength.
No good region would be complete without a map, and Steel Era currently has three, provided by Arcerion. First is the plain map, free of any markings or other attributes. Don't let a quick glance at the map fool you, Steel Era's map is 16,000 kilometers in size, from top to bottom. The second map features major resources, currently including oil, coal, aluminum, gold, petroleum, and natural gas. More resources will be added as the region solidifies. The third map features the average temperatures. The blue region represents an average temperature of 5 degrees Celsius. Light blue is 5-10C, Yellow is 10-20C, Orange is 20-30C, and Red is 30+C. Ice caps will also be added to the map, in time. For the sake of fairness, when a nation is accepted into the region, their territory will be assigned by either Arcerion or myself. NPC nations will be replaced by user nations when needed.
After acceptance, we'd like your own detailed map of your nation, showing the spread of terrain, urban centers, military bases, centers of industry, and major rail/roadways.
CURRENT MAP, with labeled nations
Currently, the application process to enter Steel Era focus on government and military. First, briefly tell us what type of government your nation is going to be. No need to get lengthy, mention whether it will be a constitutional monarchy, representative democracy, authoritarian dictatorship, etc. Also, tell us your population size. Following this, an in-depth ORBAT of your military is needed. Obviously this will take time; we haven't completed them yet, ourselves. Feel free to post expressing interest, and current members will be willing to help you decide on the direction your military should take. For organizational purposes, tell us how many personnel are in your nation's military. How many Sherman tanks, how many Sabre fighters, how many Gearing class destroyers, so on and so forth. Again, choosing the make-up and state of your military will take time, feel free to express interest before submitting a full ORBAT. Here is an example of what Arcerion has done to display the organization of a section of his military. A visual description is not required, but a written description will be, after admittance. Again, this is for the sake of clarity in Steel Era, helping to create the best region possible. Also, drop an RP example or two. Events need to be story driven when the time requires it.
When events begin to unfold, fairness will be guided by a neutral group of users, consisting of no more than 2 members. This party can have no stake in the conflict/dispute, and ensures that major events in Steel Era can move smoothly and fairly.
