TIL Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri, which means he's mine even though he's associated with the Harlem Renaissance.

After learning that W.E.B. duBois was born in Massachusetts, I was honestly getting kind of worried that Canada would wind up with all the major influential black thinkers and authors of this period.

But most Confederate strikes would be sympathy strikes in support of Canadians. The CSA isn't really an industrial country; much of the Confederacy still relies on farming, mining, herding, drilling, fishing, etc.

Eurasia plans Nuclear Rocket for Deep Space Exploration

Yevcosmos, the Eurasian Federal Space Agency, recently presented its ten-year development plan to the Eurasian government -- the 2016-2025 Federal Space Program.

While the plan seemingly eliminates previously announced manned lunar exploration plans, it included somthing completely new ...

The construction of a prototype nuclear rocket engine that uses a reactor to propel it into deep space.

In a statement to Izvestiya, Andrey Ivanov, a spokesman for Yevatom, Eurasia's State Atomic Energy Corporation, said:

"All the work on the construction of the atomic engine is ongoing, in accordance with planned timescales. We can say with a large amount of certainty that the work will be completed within the provided timescale."

Andrey Ionin of Eurasia's Tsiolkovskiy Cosmonautical Academy told Izvestiya that the program envisions a wider plan for space exploration, which will guide the direction of the engine's construction. As he said:

"It is clear that an atomic engine is necessary only for exploration of distant space. Projects like the creation of an atomic engine have to take place in the context of a larger project, in order to precisely understand what exactly we are making such a powerful energy source for."

In fact, some aspects of the engine's construction are already underway, as Rosatom announced Monday. According to Andrey Ivanov:

"Two important stages of the project have recently been carried out. Testing of the reactor's casing has been successfully completed. This testing subjected the casing to excessive pressure and took 3D measurements of the metal, welding and conical intersection."

​Efforts have also been proceeding on the development of the fuel elements as well. As Ivanov added:

"A unique fuel element has been constructed which allows the engine to work in high temperatures, in large temperature gradients, and high doses of radiation.
Nuclear rocket engines are not new. The Confederate States worked on the concept for over two decades in the 1950's and '60's as part of the NERVA (Nuclear Engine for Rocket Vehicle Application) program.

NERVA was a nuclear thermal rocket engine development program that was a joint effort of the C.S. Atomic Energy and NASA that was managed by the Space Nuclear Propulsion Office (SNPO) until the program, and the office, ended in 1972.

But that wasn't the end of nuclear energy for space vehicles.

Since the 1960s, long-term, unmanned, space missions have used Radioisotope Thermal Generators (RTG) for power where solar cells are not practical.

Essentially, RTG power systems are atomic batteries. They produce electricity from the natural decay of plutonium-238 -- a non-weapons-grade form of plutonium. Heat given off by the natural decay of this isotope is converted into electricity, providing constant power.​

Space probes such as NASA's Voyager and Pioneer, as well as the Curiosity rover, all use Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators (RTG) as their power source

When it was launched in 1977 Voyager 1's three RTG's produced about 470 watts of electric power, with the power output degrading over time.

Confederate elections 2018 update-

With former Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley reportedly preparing to suspend his candidacy due to low poll numbers, and any independent run by former Virginia Senator Jim Webb failing to materialize, former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has effectively seized the Republican Party nomination by default before the first party primaries- which would have been South Carolina and Nevada in late February. While her campaign touts this as a symbol of unity, some worry the lack of a strong challenger may have left her unprepared for what might be a brutal general election.

Meanwhile, the Democratic nominating battle has devolved into a battle between Cuba Senator Rafael Cruz, who holds a slight lead and more appeal to hard rightists and evangelicals, and Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who holds more appeal with moderates and minority demographics the Democrats have struggled to take in recent elections. California businesswoman Carly Fiorina has continued to struggle in spite of high polls early in the campaign; former Arkansas Mike Huckabee looks set to join South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham on the list of those who have dropped from the race.

Several other smaller parties are also contending, though they are unlikely to win. The Green Party is having a primary between California activist Kent Mesplay and South Carolina unionist Theresa el-Amin; the Libertarians, between Alabama programmer John McAfee and Missouri activist Austin Wade Petersen; the Reform Party seems likely to nominate Virginia's Robert David Steele; the Socialist Party seems likely to nominate New Mexico's Gloria la Riva. California transhumanist Zoltan Istvan and Florida social media personality Dan Bilzerian are running independent campaigns.

Yeah.

Technically that "update" would be canon in February 2018, since Confederate elections are two years off from IRL American ones.

I'm sorry, but the only opposition to Clinton ATL was Martin O'Malley and Jim Webb, neither of whom gained traction. Since Sanders- the only candidate giving Clinton a run for her money- isn't Confederate ATL, there's really nobody standing in her way.

Empress Elizabeth intends to spend little time being diplomatic on her way to London, but intends to do a full diplomatic tour of Europe on her way back to Japan, by visiting all the nations she can. :)

By measurement, our non-cultural technology should be somewhere around the late Interwar; 1929 or so; by the outbreak of the Second Great War in 1914, we should be at about 1937-1938 technology. As a result, trains in Japan go about 30-35 mph.

Culturally, we're chill as is; we should be rapidly approaching early modern film innovation (silent age film, b&w), but it should rapidly accelerate from there.

That's what I'm thinking, the first major motion picture from Canada(a film version of Blessed Are The Persecuted) will be released in 1903, the first sound film in 1909, and so on.

Boji has told me that Triumph of the Will will appear sometime around 1910-1914; which is fine.

As for Japanese films, Japan might start making a slew of films.
