Political Map 2.1

Introduction

Evarii has long since been a damned land. Damned by the Gods, both old and new. Damned by men, both living and dead. Damned by nature, with the plague of mankind slowly creeping into the previously untouched forest and rivers. Centuries ago, it was just a small group of tribes, families, farmers and peasants, hardly worth calling the greatest continent in the world. But with age comes certain privileges, and the small tribes and families grew, both in size and power. Villages became towns, and towns cities, and soon walls were built, keeps constructed, and blades forged.

Now begins the so called First Era. The families of power are all begin to test their rival's borders and patience, slowly grinding away at the thick fabric of peace that has previously existed. With the winter thaw coming to a head, the families are planting their fields, knights are beginning to train again, and the rivers and waterways are re opening, bringing valuable and life saving commerce and trade to the inner lands. Here is the time where these powerful families will try and become kings, and Kings will try and survive.

Summary

This RP will allow players to play the part of upstart noble houses in the land of Evarii. It is recommended that players have a knowledge of medieval life, warfare, and family structure. Each family is its own great house, with no defined King or ruling family. However, some families have more power than others, but that all can change.

Structure

Each head of each household will be known by a noble title, such as Lord or Duke. Lesser lords, or sub-houses that answer to these figures must be known as Earls, barons, and so forth. Knights and important figures are also crucial, but aside from calling knights Sir, there is no need to distinguish them as nobility. With regards to responsibilities, the feudal system determines this. The Lord runs the House and its affairs, the lesser lords theirs, and the Knights are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of their private men-at-arms.

Culture - Religion

With regards to religion, there are two prevailing faiths in Evarii. The first is simply known as The Faith, and revolves around respect for ancient traditions, and praying to a God simply known as the Watcher, who is known as both a merciful and a terrible God. the second religion, a newer one carried from the hot and dark lands across the great seas is known on the continent as the Darkness, and worshippers pray to a God known as the Shade. For both religions, players can make up the contents and overall formation, however as of now just keep the discussion in the OOC so we can have a singular following of the religions.

And you have me interested. Consider this a reservation.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

House Name:
House Stewart of the South

House Banner / Sigil:
Image

Summary of House:
The origins of House Stewart are unclear, but they have been the rulers of the south of Evarii for centuries at the least. They appear to have originated at the bottom of the southern peninsula, and through years of political alliances and military conquest, became the sole, un-opposed lords of the peninsula. They then began establishing trade routes with nearby lords, houses and merchants, establishing a semi-powerful nation. They are known for their dedication to economic development, knighthood and valour in combat.

House History:
- Founded by Willem Stewart, centuries ago, who built the the keep and city now known as Ironhurst.
- Expansion further north through political alliances and military conquest.
- Expansion ends once the peninsula is under firm control of the house. Further consolidation of power occurs.
- Trade is started with neighbouring lords, kingdoms and merchants.
- House Stewart becomes a rather powerful and rich house, through clever trade and investment.

Head of House:
Duke Arthur Stewart, thirty-nine years

Head of House History:
The only son of Lord Richard Stewart, a stern but renowned warrior and lord. His early childhood was rather turbulent, to say the least, with the slaying of his father by a rebellious vassal, and the death of his mother during childbirth. The rebellious lord was eventually slain by the House's Captain of the Guard, Robert Storm. He was groomed to lead, and was sent away to the House's most loyal vassal, Derryk Landlerly of House Landerly, whilst Lord Richard's brother ruled in his stead. He studied swordsmanship, jousting, knighthood, the chivalric code, and was also taught how to be a competent battle commander and peace time administrator. He went on to become a fierce and competent swordsman, and became known for his dry wit, political shrewdness and his chivalric code of honour.

House Name: House Austermann
House Banner / Sigil:
Image

Summary of House: House Austermann was founded in the early days by the son of a smith, although his name is lost in a library fire centuries ago, is commonly referred to as Vater Austermann. Or "Father". They continued to build up the house, by leading their small village through bad crops, droughts, and fierce winter storms. The village grew into a town, and slowly into a small city. The city prided itself, and the house more importantly on finely forged armour and manufactured goods. The Austermann family grew in size, and soon several other towns submitted, and the House began to have a larger influence. The growth slowly continued, town to town, with the small companies of Austermann men-at-arms and knights subduing the criminals and other terrible beings that roamed the high mountain roads.
House History:
-Founding
-Austermann assumes control of Ausburg, a Noble town
-Expansion to surrounding towns
-Great Storm ruins many mountain roads, and as a result begins a small inner war due to new independence from Ausburg
-Stone Wars end, and House Austermann remains in control
-Austermann knights begin raids on surrounding villages, taking control of more and more territory in the mountains.
-Austermann enters the First Era
Head of House: Siegfried Austermann (Male, 43, Lord)
Head of House History: Siegfried was born shortly after the Stone Wars, and as a result is as fierce a proponent of House pride as any of his predecessors. From a young age, he detested arms and combat training, preferring to bury himself deep in the Keep's library instead. This was much to the despair of his father, Erik, who was a well-known fighter and often commented as having beserker rage when blood was shed in battle. As he progressed in age, he attracted the eye of many maidens, as his father's handsome features and high cheekbones mixed with his mother's fair complexion made him a stunning example of Austermann blood. Siegfried soon took up arms, preffering a short hatchet and shield versus his father's longsword. However, his father's quams about having a meek son were soon quashed. As his son raided and fought against other towns and bandits his guardsmen often commented on his rage and strong strategic mind, likely forged by a youth filled with books and great tales of battles fought in the Old Era. After the death of Erik, who passed in his sleep, Siegfried took command of the House, focusing on economic expansion and forging strong trade bonds.

House Name: Of Syragrii
House Banner / Sigil:
Image
I didn't use the thing you gave. Sue me.

Summary of House: The Of Syragrii was originally an illustrious house that ruled much of the continent. However, after a bad string of inbreeding, lost wars, and sometimes, just incredibly bad luck, the of Syragrii soon found themselves dwindling as minor counts and marqueses. However, after a lucky marriage to a now-dead dynasty which controlled the extremely decentralized Kingdom of the Isles, the Syragrii were back in the game. Despite the kingdom's massive weakness due to the powerful nobles, the of Syragrii under the powerful Syragrius I (The thirteenth in his line, not counting the founder of the dynasty) were able to flourish with the islands under their control. Now the of Syragrii mostly call the islands home, except for a select few who have been married off to others. The house is reinvigorating itself and correcting its century-long decline through smart, royal marriages and staying away from inbreeding.
House History: Originating in the mountains from which they commanded a semi-mythical tribe known as the Syragrians, Syragrius, the founder of the dynasty, forsook his tribe to come and live among the civilized people of the lowlands. Known for his martial skill, Syragrius soon became the marshall for a leading king, but, after the King died with an incompetent for a son, Syragrius killed him and took his place, establishing the of Syragrii. The house flourished under him, and his son, Syragrius II. Both of them established strict laws within their kingdom and their houses, creating many children with only one viable successor, in which the King could choose. However, after two centuries of the of Syragrii gaining their kingdom title, they lost it after a large revolt was coupled with a succession crisis. Reduced to counts throughout the realm, it looked as if the house had a good run, but it was in its twilight years. However, after Syragrius XIII was married off to a seven year old queen of the Isles, he was soon to take real charge of the nation, and brought sweeping reforms into his house once again, disallowing intermarriage through the house and assuming direct control of who marries who. After him, his heir Aegidius I of Syragrii went through a brutal civil war to centralize his father's title, and ended up winning, and not only that, but replacing all the traitorous nobles with more loyal ones willing to obey the centralized laws.
Head of House: Aegidius II "The Young" of Syragrii, 56, Male.
Head of House History: Born in the twilight years of his father Aegidius I's reign, he assumed "control" of the kingdom at a tender age of eight, granting him the nickname "The Young". His mother, of course, was the regent during this time period, until his fourteenth birthday in which he actually took power into his own hands. Thusly, he reined in the provinces even more, while still giving the nobles some power. Besides this, his reign was one that was somewhat quiet. His heir, Prince Immolatrius, as well as his three sisters and one infant brother, are the heirs to the throne, with Immolatrius as the designated primary heir.
Head of House titles: King of The Isles, Heir to the Legacy of Syragrius the Progenitor, Duke of Tarquin, and Baron of Sarysu
House Titles: What is mentioned above, along with a few counties that are within the Kingdom of the Isles. Minor things.
House Family: The direct family is as follows:
  • King Aegidius II of Syragrii
  • Prince Immolatrius of Syragrii
  • Princess Aetia of Syragrii
  • Princess Respinda of Syragrii
  • Princess Emma of Syragrii
  • Tanist Adoptius of Syragrii
Important House Figures:
  • Kaeras Calveley - 18 - Squire to the Prince
  • Caedmon Wylde - 37 - Male - Chancellor and Archdiplomat to the Kingdom
  • Aeris Caldhaven - 23 - Male - Supreme Warlord of all Kingdom forces
  • Denys the Lowborn - 53 - Male - Steward of the treasury
  • Emma of Sanctuary - 39 - Female - Wife of Aegidius II and his Spymaster
  • Lorde Kaestor Wylde of Kretas - 49 - Male - Lord of the isle of Kretas and Aegidius' best friend.
Land claimed: Here.
Land Description: The Kingdom of the Isles, which is made up of the islands Traian, Harian, Kretas, Photas, and Marias are all heavily forested, and somewhat mountainous, only Traian, the most westward island, has any semblance of serious urbanization, in the form of the capital of the Kingdom called Cyrodius, which is where the imperial palace is placed. The rest of the islands are covered in dense forests and tall mountains, getting more and more mountainous the more eastwards the island is.
RP samples: Invited.

Name of Town: Cyrodius
Location: The Westernmost island of Traian, in the Kingdom of the Isles.
Population: 246,390
History: Cyrodius has always been a somewhat urbanized centre, dating back to the early ages of memory. Traian has the most agrarian land of any of the islands, and most of it is centred around Cyrodius. However, it remained a relatively unimportant settlement until the ascension of Syragrius I onto the throne of the isles. When he moved his capital to Cyrodius, he noticed the tactical value of the town. It was populous, had a large amount of resources, and was naturally defendable. Erecting two sets of large walls around the town, he built his palace as a fortress inside the town. Not only did this secure his spot on the throne, as well as stimulate the local economy, it also became a defensive strongpoint, which was proven during the Siege of Cyrodius when a 38,000-man army assaulted the defences during the civil war, and were repelled.
Trade: Mostly deals with lumber and stone, but also has a flourishing smithing trade.
Important Figures:
Aside from the figures mentioned in my "House" App, Lord Mayor Boethius, the man in charge of the town.
Chloe Wylde, 16, daughter of the illustrious Wyldes, and lover of Prince Syragrius.
Garrison: 4,600 Men.

Name of Town: Forsythe
Location: Kretas, the large island.
Population: 148,300.
History: Forsythe was originally the location of a monastery for those of The Faith, but it also served as a trading post. As time went on, many traders took up residence here, and began living amongst the monks. So many did this that they ended up outnumbering the monks, and eventually created a middle and lower class which soon grew populous.
Trade: Mostly agrarian goods or seafood, anything to keep its burgeoning population to continue expanding, or at least stable.
Important Figures:
Lord Mayor Erhik of Forsythe - 56 - M
Captain of the guard Kaeris the Lowborn - 34 - M
Captain Inris of the Garrison - 29 - M
Garrison: 3,400.

Name of Town: Prospeckt.
Location: Harian, the second most westward island.
Population: 128,640.
History: Prospeckt was a town that was forged from the destruction around it. In the War for the Isles, both the Syragrii and the Islander Nobles devastated their enemy's townships and holdings, frequently burning them down. Harian, the second most westward island of the bunch, was officially neutral - Lord Aeros refusing to take a side in the bloodshed. Refugees trickled into the island by the dozens, then hundreds, then thousands as word spread that Harian was a safe zone. Quickly seizing the opportunity, Aeros organized the refugees into either urbanized or agrarian land under the Crown of the Isles, and created the urban centre of Prospeckt.
Trade: Infamous for its alcoholic beverage - Kvass. 8% Alcoholic on average. Besides this, Prospeckt is also well known for its rapidly burgeoning economy that meddles in everything from apothecarianism to weapon smithing and everything in between. Of course, while Prospectk was certainly lucky, he who organized it wasn't. Aeros, along with his entire family, was executed at the end of the War for the Isles for not siding with the King.
Important Figures:
Lord Mayor Venegrum of Prospeckt - 62 - Male
Garrison: 3,500.

House Name: Calveley
House Banner / Sigil: Here
Summary of House:A very minor house in service to the Syragrii family. The Calveleys are not natives to the Isles but have been around long enough to have assimilated somewhat to the culture while maintaining their old ways. In days past the Calveleys have been an unremarkable House though provided many accomplished Knights throughout the years to serve their liege lords. After fighting on behalf of King Aegidius and earning many battlefield commendations, Javain Calveley has become something of a rising star in the Kingdom of the Isles by creating one of the most elite fighting companies in the lands dubbed the Hellequin, some four hundred fighting men. Javain, along with his brothers and the Hellequin have served King Aegidius faithfully and can be counted as one of their most loyal vassals.

There have been many occasions in which King Aegidius has sent the Calveleys and the Hellequin out to spill the blood of his enemies. Tasks that they were happy to do.

Lately, Javain has taken the Hellequin overseas to fight as mercenaries and plunder in foreign lands. Though the Calveleys recognize who their true liege lords are and remain ready to answer the call to arms should King Aegidius command it.

House History:
The Calveleys are new to the Isles but have adapted well. For valor on the battlefield, the current Calveley siblings great grandfather was knighted by a Syragrii, establishing them as a nobles. While poor, the Calveleys have always produced sons that have fought for the Syragrii's since. In this time they gained very little renown and mostly took the battlefield as beggar knights. It was not until Jevain's actions in the civil war that they were finally recognized by the royal family and their status has been elevated ever since.
Head of House: Jevain Calveley, 27, Male
Head of House History: Jevain took the reins of his family when his parents died during the civil war. His father in battle and his mother to grief. Valor on the battlefields granted him commendations from the King himself, renown, and enough money to advance their family's status. No longer content with being a poor knightly house, Jevain founded his own free company, the Hellequin. They are notorious for their brutality and love of plunder being made of mostly convicts pulled from the dungeons and forced to serve. The Syragrii's tolerate them for their effectiveness and loyalty.

King Aegidius has utilized Jevain and his Hellequin many times for the more unsavory tasks required in ruling his kingdom. Something Jevain is all too pleased to do. This has granted him a bit of notoriety as one of the Syragrii's ruthless enforcers.

Jevain is a solid battlefield tactician, an exceptional warrior and has received the nickname, the Jester Knight for his humorous manner. A name that is well known throughout the Syragrii lands.
Head of House titles: The Jester Knight

House Name: Morley

House Banner / Sigil: http://i.imgur.com/sWluUn7.png

House Words: Never Yield

Summary of House: Located on the isle of Photas three days smooth sailing south of Ironhurst, House Morley rules from the salt-stained stones of Castle Curran. A modest house founded during Aegidius I’s civil war and loyal to House Syragrii, the house still struggles to find its true fortune with little more than a strong arm to its name.

House History: House Morley is a young house, not even sixty years old. Born out of the War for the Isles, it claimed the last lands of a dying house to rise to nobility. Until the Siege of Cyrodius, House Morley’s founder, Dunstan Morley, had been a lowly hedge knight of little remark aside from his skill with spear and shield. Dunstan’s father, Sir Kerry, had likewise been a hedge knight who never tired of reminding Dunstan of their common station and poverty. From a young age, Dunstan was determined to earn his family the full honor and wealth of a noble title. When his father was drowned chasing pirates while in service to the Inchmouths of Inchmouth Point, Dunstan took up his father’s arms and armor to find the noble title he so desired.

His chance came during the Siege of Cyrodius, when Dunstan Morley fought alongside the loyalist forces aiding the Syragrii cause. During the battle of Crabman’s Gate, when the treacherous Lord Whalsey and his stalwarths attempted to take control of a side gate and surrender it to the enemy, Dunstan inadvertently saved the life of Aegidius the Ist by taking a spear meant for the King of the Isles. He was rewarded for his luck with a choice assignment at the end of the siege; among the dead was Lord Cleyton Whalsey, a rebel lord with a relatively poor holding which represented the nearest fortified position in the western part of the Isles. Along with a number of Syragrii bannermen, Dunstan Morely was dispatched to take the island stronghold and deny its anchorage to the still reeling enemy. Because Lord Whalsey had taken all but a token force with him to battle, the castle was easily taken.

Soon after, King Aegidius sailed on to Kretas and the Battle of Forsythe, leaving the advance guard at Castle Curran to catch up in the weeks to come. Eventually Dunstan Morley was left in charge with a handful of soldiers to hold Castle Curran and pacify the island it oversaw. Dunstan Morley sat out the rest of the war there, and the common folk say he did a far better job of seeing to their security and wellbeing than the deceased Lord Whalsey ever had. Thus, with Whalsey dead without an heir and Dunstan Morley doing a sufficient job of controlling the territory, Dunstan was elevated to a lord following the end of the war. Finally he had obtained his goal: owning land as Lord Morley, lord of Castle Curran and a bannerman sworn to House Syragrii.

Many winters have come and gone since then, but scarcely five since Dunstan himself passed away. He lived to the ripe old age of seventy-one, his hair white and shoulders rounded by the years. His son Reginald had already handled his father's duties for several years by then, and assumed the lordship without much difficulty.

Head of House: Reginald Morley, male, 39 years of age.

Head of House History: Two things more than anything have shaped Reginald Morley into the man he is today: his father’s life and his wife’s death.

No, he does not blame his son Kieran for her passing. Even though Kieran’s breath coincided with Lady Erin’s last, he knows the only one to blame is himself. After all, had he only sent for a proper healer from Forsyth instead of relying on a midwife from the castle town, Lady Erin might well have survived the difficult labor despite her ailing health. This nagging guilt has instilled in Reginald a driving need to gain wealth and power, not for his own use, but to protect his friends and family. This rather intense ambition often lead others to think Reginald greedy or power hungry. Regrettable, perhaps – but hardly a mystery.

That aside, Reginald’s extensive martial training colors his perspective of almost every facet of life. As a warrior through and through, he grew up listening to tales of his father’s exploits during the War of the Isles. Castle Curran’s older generation remember Reginald fondly as an eager, wilful lad always ready to learn more about fighting. Tales of a childhood spent battering other squires with wooden swords and staging mock battles in the castle courtyard often embarrass him today.

Reginald values a strong arm and a good suit of armor far more than book learning, ledgers and other less exciting pursuits. He has little interest in court and only attends those social functions he is required to, thus knowing little of his noble neighbors and having little to no contact with them. Reginald, taking a key from his late father, believes the key to running a house is a strong military, a well-defended castle and loyal subjects. Unfortunately, his persistent focus on martial matters leaves him forgetful of the fact that someone has to find a way to pay his soldiers, fund castle maintenance and feed his subjects. So far his father’s old advisor, Farris Leed, has been able to keep things under control, but the fortunes of House Morley are not getting any better.

In his heart of hearts, Reginald years for some new conflict to arise that will allow him to demonstrate that will validate his martial talents. A conflict which will bring him the fame and glory he privately seeks, not to mention the wealth and power he needs to protect his loved ones. Perhaps pirating traders from nearby Ironhurst is a solution?

Time will tell.

Head of House titles: The Morley, Lord of Castle Curran, Knight of Saltherring, Protector of Photas and Keeper of the Wart Light.

House Titles: N/A

House Family
Erin Morley - 36 - Lady of Castle Curran, deceased.
Kieran Morley - 17 - squire to Sir Gavin Growne and heir to Castle Curran.

Important House Figures:
Brom Bunting - 16 - Fellow squire.
Farris Leed - 56 - Advisor.
Nelly Salter - 38 - Shipwright.
Sir Gavin Growne - 44 - Master-at-Arms.

Land claimed: The Syragrii island just south of Ironhurst.

Land Description: House Morley’s meager holdings center a wide, wooded island of rocky cliffs and pebbled beaches called Photas. The island’s woods offer House Morley a steady supply of lumber. Its soil itself is poor and flinty, however; and few crops survive to flourish there. Only some animals, like goats and a few hardy cows, find enough sustenance to make herding them worthwhile.

The verdant fields of Kretas and Forsyth supply the majority of the food eaten on Pothas that isn’t fish or shellfood brought in by local fishermen. If some calamity were to cut Photas off from the sea’s bounty, or Curran Castle should come under siege, the castle maintans a two-year supply of food stores, mainly in the form of salt cod and other dried goods.

Other than Castle Curran itself, the isle also sports three settlements of varying size and importance. Saltherring, a modest port town sprawled in the shadow of Castle Curran’s walls, is by far the largest. A grim, grey bastion called the Traitor’s Tower guards the entrance to its harbor. Its taverns, chief amongst them The Blushing Mermaid and The Old Bell, are famed throughout the isles for their creamy mackerel stew and willing wenches. As such, most islanders – from the town or otherwise – tend to refer to themselves as Herringmen.

Saltherring’s closest neighbor is Wartlight Hall, a fishing village clustered around the eponymously named hill known as the Wart. The lighthouse at its top, the Wart Light, serves as a familiar beacon for sailors seeking salvation from Photas’ many shoals and rock snarls. Folks from other parts of Photas call people from Wartlight Hall ‘Wartmen’, and love them not. Sometimes, just sometimes, men from the area light false fires along the shore to lure passing traders to a watery grave. Lord Reginald and his personal guard once arrested a gang of such wreckers redhanded, marched them back to Saltherring and hung them from gallows at the Traitor’s Tower.

Finally, the tiny hamlet men and maps alike call Shoalport is a sad, mist-haunted place. Were it not for its reputation as a smuggler’s haven back in Lord Wheaton’s day – and a pirate’s nest before that again – most maps would hardly have mentioned it. It is said that Allard the Black, infamous sorcerer and Pirate King if Photas, supposedly ruled the isle from a castle near Shoalport back in the Age of Legends. In those dark days the people of Photas did not suffer dwarves to live, and cast such malformed monsters into the sea as offerings to the gods of Sea and Shoal. Those same gods are said to have sent a mermaid to Allard the Black, who taught him sorcery which let him speak with the dead in exchange for his seed. The legend of Allard the Black is just that, though – a legend. And for that the people of Photas are thankful.

Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

I don't really want to play a large role in this RP. Are there any great houses that would like a loyal free company in their service?

Pretty much it'll be a mercenary company commanded by a knightly house in your house's employ. They'd be mercenaries but I would RP them to be loyal.

Sounds good. You could add in a part in your history about helping with the civil war for the Kingdom of the Isles.

I'll do that.

No offense but the map sucks. I made this for another RP. Here. If you want to use that instead. The claimable portions are close together so it forces players to interact. It can be expanded for more players or we can consider anything outside to be filled with barbarians and what not.

Honestly, I like this map better.

House Name: House Arathor
House Banner / Sigil:
Image

Summary of House:

The House Arathor is a noble House which prides itself on tradition and exceptional goods, women, and their warriors.

House History:

There are many differing accounts on the founding of the House Arathor. Scholars are always nipping at their colleague's throats to determine how this story was true while the second story was false, or vice versa. Really, all it boiled down to was your belief in the gods. If you believed, you were a scholar for the Forging, whereas if you did not believe in the gods, you were a scholar for the Sagas. The Forging is probably the most epic tale in the Book of Foundations, the main literature for the religion of Vik'rus (which is subsequently the same name for the House's main language). The tale of the Forging is essentially the creation of the House Arathor from a religious point of view. The story goes as follows:

The Father of gods, Tygarash, felt a deep woe in his heart because of the lack of civility and humanity within the realm of Delunia. The barbaric tribes and peoples roaming the lands were wreaking havoc on those who would seek to establish a home, and due to the Law of Humanity, the gods were powerless to get involved directly. Because of his troubles, Tygarash called a meeting of the gods to create a plan on what to do. As the council met and discussed the problem at hand, great debate and emotions were expelled. Throughout days of intense conversation, it was decided that the god of fertility, Anandryll, would go down to Delunia disguised as a maiden and would betroth a great warrior and would bring the demi-god child to term. When this child was born, Anandryll would "die", and the child would become the founder of the House Arathor.

At once Anandryll, disguised as a maiden awaiting betrothal, went down to Delunia to the greatest tribe in the land. She claimed her name was Synthiaara, and her escorts told the ruler there that she was needing a husband. Immediately the ruler held a feast and called upon his son, Jochanan the Lionslayer, to court the young and overly beautiful Synthiaara. The two began conversing and began to like each other, and by the next morning the two had been married and had sealed that marriage in bed. The two relentlessly made love until Synthiaara knew she was pregnant. The couple was overjoyed at the news, especially Jochanan, who was delighted to have a child on the way.

Many months passed and finally Synthiaara carried the child to term and gave birth on the full moon of the fourth month of the year. It was a boy, as the prophesier had predicted, and the tribe rejoiced with feasts and many festivities. Not long after the birth though, Synthiaara died in her sleep, leaving Jochanan to raise the boy himself. He named the child Magnus Arathor the Courageous. Magnus was raised to be a warrior from the day he could walk. He became one of the finest swordsman in the land, calling on challengers to best him in a fight, though no one could. A master of single combat and a tactician unlike any other seen before, he quickly slayed the barbarian tribes surrounding his own, and thus was the security of the land of Arathor and the beginnings of the House.

Of course, this is a religious tale, and obviously cannot be proven nor unproven. The story lying within the Sagas, however, is a different tale entirely. The Sagas are a collection of tales dictating the history of the House of Arathor up to FA44, written by Halrad Ulna the Scholar. Formerly told by way-of-mouth, the Sagas are one of the earliest forms of writing within the House of Arathor. The story of the Sagas is as follows:

The land of Parcaeus was plentiful in bounty and peaceful in stature.
It no longer had quarrels with outside peoples and was focused on the growth and wealth of its people,
Though the people were discontent with the King for many reasons:
The wealthy got wealthier while the poor stayed poor,
The sick died while the healthy stayed immune of disease,
The soldiers harassed the peaceful but protected the harmful with coin in pocket,
The people were not given a voice to hear their cries.

Magnus, a blacksmith working in the Militant Disctrict of Haranor,
A man of little importance but stature of a King
Sat shaping the metal of blades to be used to quell the riots of the people,
Wondering why he was aiding his enemies kill his friends.
He was not a man of war but one of action,
Not a man to kill but a man to fear,
Not a man to wander but one to have purpose,
A man to not wonder among his thoughts but know the action which must be taken.

And so he was puzzled by the contradictions within his heart,
Wanting to better the future of the land but also wanting something better,
Something more than what they had.
The King was greedy,
The Guards were murderers,
The Royalty were untouchable,
The Land was not right.

Magnus took the blade he had forged by its hilt,
He examined the figure of it carefully,
Inspecting the weapon made for death he saw life within its soul;
Determined, his fate told him what to do:
Free the people of this land from the King's reign,
Life is better than what they have now.

With blade in hand and head in heart,
Magnus picked his stride out of the smithery,
His confidence displayed in the eyes of those watching,
Slowly the crowds began to form and gather around him,
Waiting idly and patiently for him to speak.

But speak he did not but continued his pace he did,
Up the the Kings palace steps he led his followers -
Demanding audience with the King he slit the throat of those who denied him,
And no matter how many guards attempted to seize him he cut them down with swift fell strokes of his blade,
The awe of those watching evident in their eyes as he slayed the guards by the tens and hundreds.

Finally after much blood had been shed the guards granted him audience.
Sheathing his blade he entered the throne room, his eyes filled with anger as he witnessed the king lazily sitting on his throne.
"Awaken, O King!
Your people have come to praise your might!"
The King stirred, eyes opening warily, inspecting the man before him.
"And you might be whom?"
Magnus scoffed.

"Your Majesty the King I am your friend,
I am here to take away the people you call rejects that filth your streets;
I am here to take away the people who would cause you diress,
I am here to cleanse your city of the poor and sick."

The King looked upon Magnus with great confusion and shock.
"Who do you think I am, boy?
A man who can be taken for a fool?"

"You are certainly no fool, Sire.
Just an incompetent man."
The King rose from his throne outraged.

"How dare you! I'll have you killed!"
Magnus stood and showed the nakedess of his blade.
"So kill me then, your Majesty! Strike me down!"

In a blind rage the King lept at Magnus,
His sword bare he aimed for his heart -
Magnus parried the strike and stepped to his side,
Swiping his blade along the back of the King,
The blade cutting through flesh and bone,
The tip still hot from the forge.

The King squealed and fell, a large bleeding gash along his spine,
Magnus stood over him triumphant, the tip of his blade to the King's throat.
"Let me take these people away with no harm,
And you will live."
The King agreed out of fear,
Willing to do anything to save his life.

Magnus lead the people out of Parcaus,
Swept them of their woes and troubles,
Lead them to a better tomorrow -
Out of the sea of thorns,
And into the land of Arathor.

Since the Houses foundation, it has not been involved in many conflicts or wars. The House of Arathor usually tries to take a neutral stance in the world's happenings, though its contingency of warrior people is what many consider its insurance policy. Its warrior-monks are considered to be some of the best swordsman and bowmen in all of Delunia, though of course they are not invincible. The House of Arathor has prided itself over the last two hundred years over its plentiful crops and educated people that has become the envy of the rest of Delunia. Many of the scholars from Arathor have traveled throughout Delunia spreading knowledge and teachings, though not intrusively.

Over the past two hundred years the House of Arathor has been engaged in two major conflicts: The War of the Famine, which was caused due to a large famine in Arathor that could only be resolved through the taking of food from various barbarian tribes and villages. This conflict erupted after the last reserves of food had been stolen by barbarians, and it was determined by the Lord Council that such food needed to be taken back. Indeed it was retrieved, and the surplus of food taken by the defeated barbarians fed Arathor enough to get through the winter and into the spring, though many hundreds died.

The second conflict was a civil war in which the brother of Lord Aracon, Duke Karad, launched a war for the Lordship of Arathor. The conflict drew many thousands into it and decimated the Arathorian people for years afterwards.

Head of House: Lord Volthian Arathor, 25, Male
Head of House History:

Volthian is a semi-tall man, standing at 5'10", with broad shoulders and a strong build. He wears the traditional long hair of the Arathorian Lord, as well as donning a clean shaven face at all times. He has a strong jawline and dark green eyes that can be mistaken for kind eyes, as well as a scar from battle just under his right eye. He is a soft spoken man but says what he needs to say quickly and effectively. He is short with many people but respectful at all times. He is a cool-tempered man, always analyzing situations and thinking about events before they happen so he is never surprised.

Volthian was schooled beginning at the age of 2 and ending at the age of 13, when he picked up a sword and bow and began learning the art of war. He was schooled not only to become a great tactician but to become a great scholar as well. He quickly picked up the way of the warrior and beat many of his peers in single combat. When commanding mock troop movements and battles, he was very effective in his utilization of the troops given. At the age of 16 he was betrothed to a young girl named Synthia, who was then 14. They were happily married and eventually had their first child two years after their marriage. It was a young girl they named Sarah, who is now 7. A year after Sarah was born they had another child, this one a boy, named Ragnar, who is now 5 and the heir to the Lordship of Arathor.

Arcerion, please do note that a lot of this is taken from our Delunia RP some time ago. I figured I'd just transfer Arathor over to here, if that's alright. I can change/add details if you'd so request. Otherwise, really looking forward to this!

That Coat of Arms is... is... magnificent.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

You had me at Saxon Chronicles. ;)

House Name: House Arathor
House Banner / Sigil:(Image

Magnus took the blade he had forged by its hilt,
He examined the figure of it carefully,
Inspecting the weapon made for death he saw life within its soul;

"Your Majesty the King I am your friend,
I am here to take away the people you call rejects that filth your streets;

I've been working on a post for a while now, and I've already written my house as the rulers of the southern peninsula. If you don't mind, could I have it?
