Safety?

There was a German rugby player who ripped his nat sack in a rather nasty tackle, kept on playing until he got sent off after his legs became slick with blood.

i.e. he was a man.

That said, if the NFCD game was played in New Orleans the Seahawks are still a defensive power house. They can generate pressure with four guys and that's important to a top flight Defence. I say Seattle still wins that game.

Preseason results count for exactly three fifths of fuck all. Seattle's scrubs and JVs beat Denver's scrubs and JVs. Accounts for literally nothing.

...So what does that say when we beat the best of Denver's lineup 43-8?

Two things occurred to me tonight.

1. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were obviously trying to send a message about the Broncos during the halftime show.

2. I should have invested in a DVD of the Saints winning the Superbowl. At least then, I'd be seeing Manning getting his ass kicked by a team I actually like.

1. The game was boring as hell.

2. Advertisers must not have enough money to buy an ad slot as well as make a commercial, because...

3. Peyton should have listened to this at halftime...

So, until L-Q gets done watching his recorded Super Bowl, I'll just be working on one-shots tonight, looks like.
And TJ, I'm working on the collab as well.

1. Not so fast there. The game wasn't as advertised, but I wouldn't say I was bored. It was still fascinating to watch Seattle almost literally take Denver apart at the seems. I mean, Manning is probably the best of all time when it comes to figuring out coverages and making alterations at the line. Tonight, he just looked lost. I'll probably watch what film I can find tomorrow, try and work out what Seattle did to keep him guessing. Equally, the ability to bring four and get adequate pressure means that they could drop eight into coverage. The ferocity with which they played just oozed intimation. They set the tone from the very first tackle. Denver's receivers and tight ends looked scared of coming over the middle all night long and that probably had something to do with Kam Chancellor roaming in centre field. That said, D. Thomas did some utterly retarded things.

2. The worst part of this game, is that everyone is going to blame Manning. It wasn't his fault. He wasn't great, but he was a damn sight better than the rest of Denvers team. He had no protection and his receivers did him no favours at all. Equally, the defence just sucked - it was literally like they had forgotten how to tackle. Bailey got torched all night long. The only thing they did reasonably well was to bottle up Lynch in the first half. Denver sucked. Manning didn't.

Ugh, playing the real-time aspect sucks, Jonah's not going to be reunited ntil some of his burns go down, but would someone mind remembering him, or at least hearing that he was fine from a lovely WAAFie Lt or such?

I'll see what I can do.

This is my rough plan until our next operation, just so people know, and this is open to amendment.
1. Finishing Ali/Adolf discussion
2. Ali/Talbot chat (co-op post currently under construction)
3. Ali/Page chat that is probably going to be written as a one-shot and then CPd straight into Tempsford
4. Time-skip of about a week or so
5. Excalibur field trip
6. Time-skip to operation.

So that's the plan.

In other news, to confirm that I'm not dead, I have just managed to, through arcane and dangerous methods, managed to procure an extremely rare and valuable book on a very obscure subject that will definitely play a part in our next operation. Indeed, it will be crucial.
And all I had to do was pretend to be a professor!

So, seeing as how I don't have much else to do with ES atm while I wait for the next post, and the only alternative is midterm studying (PLEASE GOD ANYTHING BUT THAT), I guess I'll start work on one of my back-burner projects meant to flesh out some of the relationships going on with my characters, namely Page and Ali with their respective families. The first one, down below, is a letter to Page from his brother Paul (currently a Sergeant in the Royal West Kents [coincidentally, according to the badges used, the parent unit of the Dad's Army platoon]), who appeared way the hell back in Guillotine and who may reappear in the future. It's a pretty small thing, no grand plans for it, but I like it.

Code: Select all
June 9th, 1940

Bob,
I don't even know where to start. I want to talk to you about what happened over there very, very badly, but I think it's probably safe for me to assume it'll get censored all to hell if I even try to talk in specifics. I don't know why you were there, or what you were doing, or even half of what was going on, if I'm perfectly honest, because I don't speak CENSORED or CENSORED. But all I know for sure is that I was in a very, very bad place, and you and your people got me and my friends out of it. I'm not going to forget it. But we are definitely going to talk about it next time we meet. Least we can do is buy your fellows a few drinks (assuming they let you pilots drink. Do they? It seems a bit irresponsible if they do, but I'm sure they've got their reasons) if we run into each other anytime soon.

God, Bob, it was awful back there. I can hardly bring myself to think of it, those two or so weeks after everything fell apart - I thought for sure I was going to get killed, one way or the other, along with all the rest of my boys. Even before we got CENSORED, it was a very bad scene, the eight of us lost somewhere in CENSORED, no idea where to go or what to do, and then to meet a gang of people to think are your friends, only to get stabbed in the back like that...it was terrible. And then when you showed up, it was like something out of one of those American cowboy movies, with you riding to the rescue like that (in a good way, obviously - but you've got to admit that if God exists, judging from how we both live, he must really like silly adventure books. You and him would have so much in common!).

I'm back in CENSORED now - all of us are. Thankfully, we hadn't been gone too long, so the Army hadn't written us off for dead, just missing, which made things a little bit easier once we found our way back to where we're stationed now. I don't know if they ever got back to you and Mum and Dad or if they held off, so I sent them a letter as soon as I possibly could, just in case my CENSORED notice got home first and they started panicking. Just sent that out yesterday, so the reply probably shouldn't be too long in waiting. Thankfully, I don't think I was gone long enough for Caroline to notice, so hopefully, I can just conceal my absence in me not having time to write her during the CENSORED. She'll probably kill me, but it's better than scaring her to death. By the way, she told me to say hello, to wish you good luck, and to tell you to keep yourself safe in her last letter to me, by the way. Sorry it got to you a bit late. So make plans accordingly, I suppose.

The Company's fairly glad to have us back, but they aren't going easy on us - we've been folded right back into the swing of things, drilling and training like nobody's business. The mood over here's fairly grim and serious, but I've never seen the men more committed than they are now. We may have gotten kicked out of France, but we lived to fight another day, and that's more than all those other armies that went up against Hitler can say. We may be down to the last chance, but we're playing at home, with everyone, Army, RAF, Navy, people on the street, the entire Empire, all here and pulling together. I'd be lying to you if I told you I wasn't scared of what's going to come in the next few months, but we're not going to break again, I swear it. We all know what the stakes are this time.

Hell, thinking about it, I don't even know why I'm scared. With me and the West Kents on the ground, and you and your people up above, Hitler could unleash all Hell on us and it'd still be a slaughter for our side! Let them all come! If the sausage-eaters think they can just roll us over on our homeland, they've got another thing coming!

All bluster aside, I can't thank you enough. I know how lucky I was, and I won't forget what you did any time soon. Here's hoping we can get a pint together and raise a little hell sooner rather than later. And for God's sake, keep yourself alive. I think the parents have just been through one shock too many already.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Your brother,
Paul

(P.S. Not to step on anybody's feet or make any untoward assumptions...but I did have one last thing to say: if you've got any damn sense at all, take care of that girl you were with back in CENSORED. Again, I don't know how you do things in the RAF, so just in case you're so mobbed with adoring lasses that you can't remember or tell which one, I'm talking about the brunette with big eyes who about came up to your shoulder, had a braid, and looked like some sort of princess. That's all I'll say, least till we meet again.)

The British units that I guarantee not participating are the RAF's and RN's Harriers that have been nostalgically decommissioned since several years back.

Well, that goes without saying. Harriers came to the end of their operational span and it was a toss up between keeping them on or keeping the Tornado. Tornadoes were and are far more important to current British operations than any variant of Harrier. More to the point, it's better suited to operations in Afghan.

There are RAF Typhoons at Red Flag. 6 Squadron are present, accompanied by Tornadoes from IX Squadron and a single AEW-1 Sentry from 8 Squadron. For 14-1, the only other (outside of the UK/US) player is the Royal Australian Air Force. Other European nations will probably be at 14-2.
