I want to do a mix of RL Guns and NS guns.

example: Handguns: Beretta 92, Beretta 93R, EAP-45B.

Yes. Though if you are, for instance, referencing a weapon you obtained through trade with another nation (such as via the Global Economics and Trade forum) you might want to include a link to the thread or post in question. Depends on how thorough you want to get.

Relatively new nation interested in working on a factbook because it suits my current region. I've noticed that when selecting the Factbook tab for some nations, it immediately links to a index page or the main factbook (url ending with detail=factbook/id=main), whereas the default seems to be a hub (detail=factbook). I've searched through the website and forums but haven't been able to find out how this is done, likely an oversight on my part. How does one set a dispatch as the main link for the Factbook tab?

One doesn't. If you only have one factbook - I believe an 'overview', though I'm not certain - then that factbook is automatically displayed when someone clicks the factbook tab. If you have more than one, it then redirects to the hub instead. The simple way to test this would be to copy any factbooks but the one you want into a text file and delete them. Carefully. If you end up with that single factbook as the direct link the truth will be out there...

After testing, it seems that any single dispatch categorized as a Factbook (regardless of Overview or otherwise) is set to the main Factbook ID, meaning that nations that utilize it set other Factbook pages and links as Bulletins, Accounts, or Metas. While this seems to be slightly inconvenient for purposes of categorizing, it seems to be the way it has to be. Thank you for the help!

Sorry, mate. You get influence through stuff like a long stay in your region (I think) and WA endorsements (I know), not by publishing a ton of factbooks and hoping that you'll get lucky.

What Tinhampton said is correct: your Influence, as far as game-side stuff is concerned, is a function of your World Assembly endorsements and your time spent in one region; it can only be reduced by using it up (ejecting nations from the region) or gradually when you move regions.

It's not really something relevant to roleplaying, which is what this particular forum (and all the "National and International Roleplaying" forums) is about.

That said, there's another kind of influence you can earn in relation to roleplaying, which is just the influence that comes from being around a while and becoming a respectable member of the roleplaying community. If you "post a ton" you might wind up 'influential', as long as you're not spamming and you're actually making decent posts.

The thing that the various kinds of 'influence' have in common is that they're all earned. By being a value member of a community, you become gradually a little more important to how that community operates. It just takes time and the right attitude.

What do these terms mean?

In the dispatches, what topics do 'culture' and ''drama' cover?

Personally, I think Culture describes art, music, national customs, and the like. This is where you'd put a national anthem for example.

Drama though... I use it for stories involving my characters but that topic isn't clearly defined in my opinion.

Drama could be both stories and storylines or even current events between your nation and another. For example you could use the drama catagory as something of a status update or timeline mentioning your nation's poor relationship with our constant thorn Blackacre or the flood of immigrants from Bigtopia. Substitute as per your current drama.

Oddly, I know of no current examples of someone with a drama factbook.

Maybe I'll fix that when I... Oh, shiny...

That's what the Mentors are there for, as well as the various community advise and assistance threads. If you have a particular era - Modern Tech, Future Tech - we can point you to a specific handful of Mentors who specialize in that area or the best thread to ask your questions in. There are also various IRC chatrooms. Let us know and we'll point you in the best direction!

Help with my socialism factbook?

Postby Nioya » Sat Dec 17, 2016 11:06 pm

I don't know where else to get help with this.
Is it well written? Is it easy to understand?

My only problem is I think the paragraph about housing is bad. It abruptly begins without establishing relevance and it has the same beginning as the previous paragraph.

Lastly, I want to write more and add anything important that needs to be in there. Please tell me if you believe there is anything else I should add to it.

What does "Is the legislature independent?" mean in all the various threads that ask that? The only form of 'legislative independence' I can think of is in the context of devolution of powers, with the Scottish Parliament being independent from the greater British Parliament, but that makes no sense in context. Alternately, it's a confusion of the term 'judicial independence' and trying to apply it to the legislature, which also makes no sense.

I feel like it might be a situation where one person put it in and other people, who also don't know what it means, copied it out of habit.

I'm not sure which threads you're referring to, but the most likely answer to your question revolves around whether or not the head of state has control over the state's legislature and or judicial branches. That is, while Iraq under Saddam Hussein indeed had a legislature, it was for all intents and purposes not independent. Dissidents and opposition leaders were killed and the body pretty much did whatever Hussein wanted, whereas in any Western nation, legislatures are independent of other governmental influences, to the point where they're free to draft and pass laws however they see fit.

Usually threads about freedom, I see this question in them a lot and the people who give answers beyond just 'yes' or 'no' seem to often discuss entirely different things in response to this question, one person might mention freedom from the executive as you said while another might talk about direct vs representative democracy (legislature able to function independent from the voters), hence my confusion.

That explanation makes sense though. Thank you very much.
