"Victory" brand liquor is perhaps the most common spirited drink in the Imperium, making it the unofficial national drink.



Even Sidhae themselves aren't sure what type of drink exactly is "Victory", but everyone knows it is certainly not for inexperienced drinkers, much less for inexperienced unaugmented drinkers. The intoxicating effects are significantly more pronounced on human drinkers, since the enhanced Sidh bodies can metabolize alcohol more efficiently.

Humans have likened it's aroma and flavour as "something between industrial-grade ethanol and homemade rotgut whiskey, mildly sweet, with a strong scent of petroleum with a tinge of rocket fuel". Sidhae have been more modest in their descriptions, simply stating that "Victory" has a strong aroma that one must get accustomed to.

There is actually a whole line of drinks branded "Victory", ranging from beer to absinthe, the actual iconic drink being labelled simply as "Victory", with no additional descriptives like "beer", "vodka" or "whiskey".

The drink gets it's name from Victory Chemical Works, a state company producing a plethora of chemicals, ranging from soap and ethanol to high explosives and rocket fuel. Legend has it that "Victory" liquor got it's characteristic taste and smell after an inexperienced worker forgot to clean the storage tanks from traces of rocket fuel before filling them with the first batch of "Victory" liquor. While that is just a tall tale, considering how Victory Chemical Works fuels and spirited drinks are produced in entirely separate factories on different worlds, and most of the process is automated to eliminate any such errors, the legend has stuck somewhat nonetheless - if only because "Victory" does actually taste and smell like rocket fuel.

It's potent intoxicant properties are evident, six shots of "Victory" being said to knock out cold all but the most seasoned drinkers. For most humans, three is usually more than enough, average Sidhae taking four or five.

South Essetia has Ouzo only. The whole realm has Zamesj, a type of Whiskey which is mixed up with Ouzo and Greek Raki.
