English Names In Your Nation (NON-ANGLOPHONE NATIONS ONLY)

Postby Nueva Uruguay » Sun Oct 19, 2014 8:22 am

How popular are English names (Bob, John, etc.) in your nation?
In the Glorious Republic, you can not give your child an English name. You must choose a name from the government's list of approved Spanish, Russian, and Portuguese names.

Technically, actual English names are not permitted. However, these can be bent to sound more localized. Hence, "Robert" becomes "Robé".

English names are most commonly given by upper-class families and those with English names have disproportionately high representation among politicians, celebrities, and military leaders.

It's very rare. Some people want it to be banned, because we're proud of our Roman ancestry and history - and want to stay so.

However, it is not banned. As of currently, there are only 71,000 people with English names in our nation.
Pro: tolerance, individualism, technocratism, democratism, freedom, freedom of speech and moderate religious expression, the ban on hate speech, constitutional monarchism, the Rhine model
Against: intolerance, radicalism, strong discrimination, populism, fascism, nazism, communism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, absolutarianism, fundamentalism, strong religious expression, strong nationalism, police states

The Kireshi, that is English speaking immigrants from another NS nation, came and brought their names with them. As such, names like Rovertu, Samuil, Mykil, Anha, Marsa or Hsu are existant but uncommon. The Sumumusumese had contact with Russia a lot and thus many Sumumusumese have rejistanian versions of Russian names like Liksandir, Voris, etc, which might also be used in English nations.

You have to give your children a name from a list of approved names, unless you come from a non-Geadish background. The original reason this list was introduced was to standardise spellings of various common names. Almost all English names have a Geadish counterpart.

Common in a North Western sector of the Nation but is spoken like Old English , other than that in the Central Regions people speak mostly a form of Icelandic, and in the Southern Regions people speak a dialect of German from Bavaria and Central Germany.

English names are extremely common around the islands of Ontorisa, due to the mass English-speaking population there. However, in mainland Ontorisa, you find more traditional names floating around and it is hard to find English names there.

Many people do take an English name, which may be completely unlike their names in other languages. In fact, a person could have as many names as he liked, so long as he had only one name in one language. People must, however, have one name in Mycenaean Greek.

English names are allowed, but uncommon seeing as almost everyone in Gvozdevsk is some sort of Slavic ethnicity and Russian is the official language. Usually if someone does have an English name, it would be a Russified form.

Not very common. They're allowed, but Benomia is a fairly ethnically pure nation, so most names are typical Benomian.

It's mostly the humans (most of them, anyway), Ponerians, and Sussurians who utilize English-style naming and names.

Names of any real world language are used in the Imperial Dominion because the official languages of the nation are fictional, with one of them basically being English but with a different name and history.

Wyrdworlder names are descriptors. Visits Shadowed Places and Darkened Hearts, for example. In common conversation, he would be Visitor for ease of use. He also has a True Name, but that is secret.

John is not openly descriptive. Yeah, it means "Yahweh is gracious" but a Daemon would rather just call themself Grace of Yahweh. If they had to, of course. Yahweh is not popular amongst Daemons.

Postby The New World Thinkers » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:41 pm

While English is the "agreed upon" national language after the great post-war loss of cultural identity english names are fairly uncommon in our nation, in fact, some of the most commonplace names have greek/roman roots such as Magnus and Andromeda
